The first time it happened he already had you in his arms before you shook your head and began to shift, wriggling out of his grasp to crawl over him before settling back under the covers behind him. One leg thrown over his hip and arms around the small (if you could even call it that) of his waist.

Most people find listening to the sound of falling rain relaxing.

Most people.

Not him.

He had spent too many nights huddled under awnings and tucked under bridges, unable to avoid the water that soaked him and what little he had to the skin.

Wet shoes and socks meant being barefoot, too numb with cold to notice he was stepping on broken beer bottles along the road. Wet clothes meant that he had only hours to find somewhere, anywhere to get warm or dry before he would get sick, really sick.

He wasn’t there, anymore.

He was safe.

He was home.

But that didn’t mean the sound of falling rain didn’t fill him with a bone deep sense of dread.

She didn’t understand exactly; she knew she’d been lucky enough to never associate the sound of rain with anything other than staying indoors. But she understood enough.

Warm blankets and dry socks found their way into his lap while the whistle of the kettle drowned out at least a little of the noise.

She’d close the curtains and put a movie on, loud enough that he could almost forget until the next crack of thunder would make him jump.

He didn’t hide under storefront umbrellas or overpasses anymore, but he did tuck himself further under her arm, as if out of habit, even now.

They both silently hoped that one day, the rain would be just rain. But until then, they’d wait out the storm together, in dry socks.

#i might as well keep oversharing since i already started #instead of spending the day in bed feeling sorry for myself i’m gonna try to finish a little project i started #basically i had this jewelry cabinet?? that was this really ugly gray and had a lot of useless drawers and was just heavy overall #took out the drawers and the separations and i’m gonna sand it down and repaint it to it’s cuter #so it’s cuter** #i still need my second paint so i can do the cute checker pattern but i can sand it down and paint it white in the meantime

One of the things I liked about Ted Lasso was Jamie's childhood room in season 3.

I am not talking about the posters on the wall, which is fantastic, but I mean the actual room. It actually looks like a room a child in a lower income family grew up in. How often do you watch a tv show and see characters' childhood or teen rooms with these big ass beds, or loft like rooms, rooms the size of main bedrooms or having the design and look of an almost professional level desginer. It used to drive me insane growing up watching characters on tv who were meant to be low or lower middle income have rooms I could only have dreamed off, or living in houses/apartments that would just be insanly high in rent or to own.

But Jamie's room is realistic of what a small home or council home room of a well loved child would look like. A single bed, a small tv, littered with childhood mementos. Maybe a little childish if teen Jamie spent a lot of time there but Jamie strikes me as always being out on the football field and not ashamed to have a room full of his childhood memories, especially in his mothers house.

Ted Lasso does a great job of keeping these characters real to life, and I think this is a great example of that.
