I think the fact that Shuro (Toshiro) fought Laios is proof he cares about him

I mean, if you really dislike someone, you leave them alone right? Ignore them, walk away

But he gets slapped and he punches back!

And then the boys start pulling each others hair and yelling their feelings because the truth is, while Laios is annoying, he's also Shuro's friend! It sometimes IS nice to have someone ask a million questions about your home. He envies Laios, he enjoys his company, I think the problem is over exposure and inability to communicate.

But you don't grapple with someone, then listen to their advice and then offer to help them if you don't care

something that really stands out to me about dungeon meshi is that its not like its got these really complex and profound themes coyly tucked away behind a bunch of goofy food/cooking motifs. the goofy food/cooking motifs ARE the complex and profound themes, and the real "oh" moment that notoriously hits everyone like a freight train when theyre reading/watching it isnt the realization that theres story here, but the realization that there was story all along. like. dungeon meshi is about food but its also about hunger. its about ecosystems but its also about community. its about the natural cycle of life/death but its also about legacy. its also about izutsumi

"falin isn't fat in canon (so stop unduly giving this series credit for fat representation in her case)": a very fair point! it *is* honestly a bit concerning that people are so conditioned by media to think stick-thin is the norm that they think medium-sized bodies are fat. and i've seen some very good points about how almost every character we see that has a heavier build is just like that because their race is naturally more stocky, and that almost no characters in this story are "overweight" by their race's standards. so while this story is much better than a lot of others with its body diversity, there are still some things that it could do better.
