it's friday night and my niles/cc headcanon wants to come out and play. i can't get these two out of my head.
i imagine they're still married 25 years later, both of them with silver hair and dressed impeccably. when they married, some of cc's upper-crustiness rubbed off on niles, but only in a superficial way. she still wears chanel, dior, givenchy, versace, and looks sharp in her skirts and pantsuits with jewellery. niles' wardrobe is more or less the same except more expensive. i imagine he is recovering from hip replacement surgery, which fran contributes to niles' inability to keep his hands off his wife. he doesn't refute this, but he does tell her that cc gives as good as she gets. fran tells him he doesn't need to paint a picture.
cc and niles are back in new york, having hated california. they moved back just before becoming parents to identical twin girls. they wrote their own joke when they came out as brunettes, and their mother had to pretend not to know where the brunette genes came from. it is niles' longest running joke and even the twins, who are now 24, occasionally like to tell people they have "mummy's hair."
the twins are quite unlike their parents and cc blames this fact on the "hippie forest school" niles insisted on sending them for their elementary education where she claims they learned to tie-dye before learning to read. cc had wanted a prep school, but niles insisted on a waldorf education. cc eventually gave in, partly because niles was very convincing with his mouth and hands, and partly because deep down, she was miserable and alone in her own educational experience. she did wish niles had found a better compromise, rolling her eyes when the parents' orientation at the twins' school provided a vegan, gluten-free (and booze-free *gasp*) spread. she threatened her husband and threw him her best glares, but he promised to do that thing she really liked in the hot tub that night, so she let it be.
the twins grew and their parents doted on them, even and especially their mother. and they absolutely adored her. they think she is so funny, even though she isn't trying to be. twin #1 is a pansexual vegan in law school who once chained herself to a tree to protest cutting down the rainforest. cc was upset that her "lesbian" daughter wouldn't let her throw a coming out party and niles had to run interference. she had pouted about it for weeks, even saying she didn't mind twin #1 was vegan. coming out parties are so passé, twin #1 claimed. niles reminded cc that twin #1 was going to law school so she could defend her mother against future lawsuits from terrified choreographers, thus saving her money. niles reminded twin #1 of the 33-hour labour her mother was in to have her and her sister...and the drugs wore off during delivery. twin #1 offered to have a low key celebration at home where her parents could celebrate their "lesbian" daughter. "pansexual, mummy!" twin #1 would exclaim exasperatedly with a shadow of a smile on her mouth.
twin #2 attended her mother's alma mater, bryn mawr, but ended up being a yoga teacher-reiki master-massage therapist-ukulele teacher. she's currently taking a herbalism course and experimenting with aquaponics. she lives in a queer collective in brooklyn, sharing a house with 7 other people. cc keeps trying to give her money, but twin #2 is adament about making her own way. she did a couple of years in the peace corps, where she picked up an interest and talent for survival skills. she met bear grylls once and it was the highlight of her year.
though cc loves her family, she still finds great pleasure in terrifying chorus boys and making choreographers cry. she has headed her own production company since returning to new york after the very brief stint in california. she has been on countless magazine covers, has done dozens of interviews, received a gracie award and a few tonys (more than maxwell), as well as is a frequent guest lecturer for NYU theatre classes, putting the fear of god in all the students. she has good instincts and brains and broadway has taken notice. when maxwell moved back to new york from california a few years after leaving, he wanted to merge his company with cc's and bring her back onboard. she said no.
niles has become a writer. since marrying the love of his life, his writing has been described by critics as truly beautiful, inspirational, and creative. he writes plays and has a column in the new york times called "are you being served?" (pun intended). a few years back, he wrote a book of poetry under a pseudonym and it was a best seller. it made the new york times' best seller list for four months straight. reviews called it "erotic," a "love story for the ages," and a "gorgeous love letter."
it was all about cc.
fran read it and told him cc was a lucky lady. he'd responded that he was the lucky one.
they still throw zingers at one another, and the twins have come to appreciate a particularly good one, but they largely stay out of it. in high school, when going through a particularly difficult phase of behavioural challenges, they experimented with throwing them at their parents. however, their parents, being pros, ate them up and spit them out, making the twins wish they hadn't even bothered.
cc is currently taking some time off to help niles do rehab for his new "magical hip."
"baby, does this make me old?" he asked her, feeling self-conscious of the walker he temporarily uses to get around due to his hip replacement surgery.
"yes, but you've been old for 40 years, so this is nothing new."
"my hip is new."
"maybe i should get something new to go with it."
"you could use a facelift," he deadpanned. "sorry. old habits."
she leaned over and gave him a loving kiss, making promises of all the things they're going to do once he's healed
that's all for tonight, but they live rent-free in my head, so there's bound to be more.

Oh. I just realised something I hadn't noticed.
It's about Niles' name.
Throughout the series, we had only one mention of Niles' possible family name. And that's in episode "The Butler, The Husband, The Wife and The Mother".
When Fran asks Niles what his last name is, Niles replies: "Just Niles, Like Cher".
So he's actually answering truthfully: his last name is "Niles". She never asked for his real name, because she thought "Niles" was his name. Soo, he has a point in his favour there.
Anyway, I checked on Reddit for more information about this, and came across a debate on this topic where they too came to the same conclusion.
One of the comments said (and I quote):
“I think Niles being his last name is right. In a Season 4 episode, Maxwell's father greets Niles by name and says he hasn't aged since he last saw him and Niles says "That was my father". Unless his father was Niles Sr., it would mean that Niles is the family name.”
Now. If You go to IMDb and you read the trivia of that chapter, you'll see that they tell us that Niles' full name is:
EDWARD EZEL NILES
The information comes from IMDb so it's true. So I came to the conclusion that "Niles" is the surname.
Back to my point... Niles and C.C. share the same name composition!
Chastity Claire Babcock → C.C. Babcock
Edward Ezel Niles → E.E. Niles
Tumblr media
Such a clever thing btw. I didn't notice, but probably you did. Maybe I'll write something about this. Have a nice day ✨

In the Wee Small Hours (A The Nanny Fic)
Title:  In the Wee Small Hours Summary: A late night conversation reveals a softer side to C.C. Rating: G, for now. Might go up in later parts. Author’s Note: This came to me, and I decided to run with it. There will be more parts, yes.
I checked it through with Grammarly, so it sounds okay, tell me if it doesn’t 😘Feedback/likes are so appreciated. Will also be posted to AO3.
It wasn’t unusual for C.C. to stay at the mansion, sometimes the endless revisions to plays and productions ate up her time and it was too late to head back to her apartment which truthfully, she preferred, her apartment was so cold and sterile compared to the Sheffield’s home; it was warm, and the fridge was always stocked with goodies and alcohol, what more could a person want?
The house was quiet, the family has gone to be hours ago. In her early days of staying over, C.C. entertained the idea of sneaking into Maxwell’s bedroom and offering herself to him, but she could imagine how that would go down, rejection and never-ending ridicule from Niles if she failed. She wouldn’t be able to show her face again. Getting the ice cream out of the fridge she leaned on the counter, taking a few mouthfuls.
She heard soft footsteps come down the stairs and hoped that it wasn’t Nanny Fine, she did not want to put up with that woman right now. C.C. looked over, surprised to see that it was in fact Brighton coming down the stairs. She didn’t have a lot of contact with the children, she preferred it that way, but the boy looked unsettled, she supposed she could try talking to him.
“You’re up late. Everything all right?”
Brighton shrugged as he went to get a glass of milk, an important date was coming up that the rest of the family had either chosen to ignore or had forgotten about but not him, and it had been playing on his mind.
C.C. wondered what it was that had put him in such a melancholy mood, a test at school perhaps? Bullies? A girl? As she observed him, she couldn’t help but notice how much he resembled his mother; Maxwell often said as such about the girls, but C.C. thought it truer of him. She glanced over at the calendar and suddenly understood what was vexing him.
“Ah, Sara’s birthday.” She’d been too involved in work to notice the date was fast approaching. It wasn’t something the family celebrated; Maxwell always tried to distract the kids with some activity to do that day so they wouldn’t be sad and while it worked, C.C. could tell it wouldn’t this time.
“You were friends, right? You don’t talk about her.”
“Your father thought it would be easier for you and your sisters if we didn’t.” She took a seat next to Brighton. “But I miss her every day, I still expect her to be here when I walk in.” C.C. smiled sadly.
“When her birthday comes around, I try to do everything that we would have done together; get coffee, go to the theatre, come back and annoy Niles while he’s cooking.” She chuckled; that was one tradition she kept alive daily. “Then I go to the cemetery and place flowers on her grave.”
“Thank you,” Brighton answered, he hadn’t been to their mother’s grave in years, and it never felt like the right time to ask. It was nice to know that Miss Babcock kept the woman in her memory.  “I just wish I remembered more about her,” Brighton said solemnly; his memory had gaps and while they had home videos, it wasn’t the same.
“You get your cocky attitude from her,” C.C. commented, while Maxwell would claim otherwise, C.C. knew that Sara was the real comedian; One time she had even suggested that Niles was in love with her, C.C. Babcock, the very idea. “And you have her smile.”
“Do you think I can come with you when you go to the cemetery? I just want to see her, I guess.” Brighton knew she wasn’t there, that it was just bones and a piece of stone that commemorated who his mother had been, but he wanted to visit.
“Perhaps if you decide to take a sudden interest in the theatre on that day, something can be arranged.” C.C. could always use a gopher and then let him walk in Sara’s footsteps.
“I can probably go to sleep now. Thanks, Miss Babcock.”
“Don’t tell anyone about this all right? I’ve got a reputation to protect.” It cannot be known that she was nice to a child, she would never work in this town again.
Brighton washed out his cup and put it in the dishwasher. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight, Brighton.” She smiled and went back to her ice cream.
-------
In another part of the house, Niles had been privy to the entire conversation having figured out long ago how to keep the kitchen intercom on, finding it helpful to keep him abreast of goings on. When he heard Miss Babcock address Brighton, he thought perhaps he should intervene should the witch try to cook him in the oven but something out of the ordinary happened; the ice queen ended up having a civil conversation with the boy, one where they had seemingly planned to celebrate the late Mrs Sheffield’s birthday together.
Niles had to wonder if the real Miss Babcock had been taken by pod people with a copy put in her place because there would be no way that she would willingly spend time with one of Maxwell’s children. He needed to find out what her angle was.
When he got to the kitchen, C.C. was rummaging through the fridge, Nile took a moment to take in her outfit; white silk pyjamas with a matching long robe, very different from what Miss Fine wore but classy, Niles expected no less. He moved quietly until he was behind her, then spoke. “What are you up to, witch?”
The voice was unexpected, and it caused C.C. to jump, almost dropping the cake she had retrieved from the fridge. She glared at Niles and put it over on the counter. “Eating cake? What, did you have a bad dream or something?”
“Mm yes, it was quite horrifying. I dreamt you were a decent person.”
C.C. smirked as she cut into the cake. “That doesn’t sound like me. What was I doing? Feeding the poor? Giving away my money?”
“Comforting a child.”
Her eyes snapped to Niles’, his words were too much of a coincidence for him to come up with such a thing on his own, he must have had the kitchen bugged or something.
it was a thrill watching the heiress so unnerved. “You put so much effort into pretending you don’t care but deep down you do have a heart. You even remembered Brighton’s name.”
Of course, C.C. knew Brighton’s name, she was his godmother after all, but it was one of those titles that had been lost over time due to Sara’s passing.
“You’ll be telling Mr Sheffield about your plans, yes? Should bring your brownie points up to one.” Not that he kept a chart, but Miss Babcock would have to put in extra effort if she was going to catch up to Miss Fine.
C.C. glared at him; did he really think her to be so shallow as to use her friend’s death to get in Maxwell’s good books? “Okay servant, what is your silence going to cost? Name your price.” C.C. regretted her words immediately, who knew what the butler would want in return, or how long he would hold it over her?
Niles smiled devilishly, having the producer in his debt had several interesting possibilities. “A decision such as this should not be made lightly, like a fine wine it needs to be savoured.”
God, he was pretentious. “Well, I’m going to bed, some of us work early.” C.C. made her way back up to her room, going over in her head what Niles could ask for. He could be crafty, but a Babcock’s word was their bond, C.C. would have to honour it, whatever it was.
It couldn’t be that bad, right?

The Nanny x reader p.4
One moring in the Sheffield residence as [y/n] was in the kitchen starting coffee for the morning, as they wiped their slightly damp hands on a kitchen towel, they heard Fran rush down the stairs leading into the kitchen.
Her face seemed flushed and [Y/N] looked at her with a concerned expression, slinging the towel over their shoulder.
"Miss Fine-?" [Y/n] was cut off by Frans frantic hushed yell.
"It's Mr. Sheffield's birthday!!" She exclaimed before her red painted lips turned into a slight pout. "He wasn't even going to say anything.."
Then she gasped suddenly and held onto [Y/n]'s shoulders, a wide grin on her face as she lightly shook them.
"Lets organize a surprise party to make his day special!!"
[Y/n] sighed knowing they'd probably have no say in this, but agreed anyway. Enlisting the help of the Sheffield children to make decorations and Niles tasked to keep the plan under wraps by keeping Mr Sheffield busy.
Maggie, assisted [Y/N] in planning the menu for the surprise feast. She shared insights into some of Mr. Sheffield's favorite dishes, and maybe a few of her own.
As days passed and the day arrived, Fran had gathered everyone in the kitchen for a quick briefing.
The excitement in the air was palpable as Fran shared the final details of the plan.
"Remember, darlings, timing is everything. Niles, keep Mr. Sheffield engaged in that 'urgent business meeting' you concocted. The kids, you'll be in charge of leading him to the garden when the time comes."
Maggie, Brighton, and Gracie nodded eagerly, their eyes reflecting a mix of mischief and anticipation.
"[Y/N], sweetheart," Fran turned to you, a glint of mischief in her eyes.
"You'll be in charge of the pièce de résistance – the birthday cake. I trust your culinary magic will make this celebration unforgettable."
With a confident nod, you accepted the responsibility, determined to create a cake that would not only tantalize taste buds but also serve as a fitting centerpiece for the surprise party
Unknown to them C.C Babcock had heard everything about the cake, and had started cooking her own plan.
In the kitchen, [Y/N] put the finishing touches on Mr. Sheffields' birthday cake.
The layers were perfectly aligned, and the frosting was just so tempting.
As they stepped back to admire their creation, Fran entered the kitchen with a twinkle in her eye.
"Darling, that cake is a work of art! Mr. Sheffield will be absolutely thrilled."Just as Fran praised [Y/N]'s culinary masterpiece, C.C. Babcock made her entrance, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" C.C. commented, her eyes fixed on the cake. "Quite the culinary delight, [Y/N]."
Fran, ever the optimist, greeted C.C. with a friendly smile.
"C.C., my dear, we're preparing a surprise birthday party for Mr. Sheffield. You're welcome to join the celebration."
C.C. feigned surprise, masking her ulterior motives behind a veneer of congeniality.
"A surprise party, you say? How delightful! I wouldn't miss it for the world." Little did everyone know that C.C. had something up her sleeve.
She saw an opportunity to present herself in a favorable light to Mr. Sheffield by offering a culinary contribution of her own.
As the guests started to gather in the garden, the cake placed at the center of the festivities, [Y/N] couldn't shake a sense that something, was off. Unbeknownst to them, a culinary showdown between [Y/N]'s masterpiece and C.C.'s surprise creation was about to unfold.
The moment had come for the grand reveal of Mr. Sheffield's birthday surprise. The garden was adorned with decorations, and the excitement among the guests was palpable. Fran, with her signature flair. The Sheffield children eagerly awaited their cue to lead Mr. Sheffield to the garden.
However, the tension in the air was heightened by the unexpected entrance of C.C. Babcock, holding a covered dish with a smug expression.
"Well, [Y/N], it seems we both have culinary surprises for Mr. Sheffield," C.C. remarked, her eyes flickering with mischief.
Fran, ever the peacemaker, tried to diffuse the situation. "Oh, C.C., how wonderful! The more, the merrier. Let's make this celebration unforgettable." With a sly smile, C.C. agreed.
The Sheffield children successfully led Mr. Sheffield to the garden, where the guests erupted in cheers. Mr Sheffield looked aroung on surprise then smiled, hugging his children as Fran clapped happoly next to them.
As [Y/N] stepped forward with the birthday cake, they couldn't help but feel a mix of pride and anxiety. The guests' eyes were fixed on the masterpiece, eager to witness the grand reveal. However, C.C.'s smug demeanor hinted at a challenge that awaited.
With a dramatic flourish, [Y/N] presented the cake – a culinary work of art that reflected their passion and dedication. The layers, the sweet smell that tickled their senses, and the delicatly placed strawberries  drew admiration from the crowd.
Not to be outdone, C.C. dramatically uncovered her dish, revealing her own, not as elaboratly decorated and seemed a tad burnt. The guests, caught between [Y/N]'s impeccable cake and C.C.'s surprise, were momentarily stunned.
Mr. Sheffield, genuinely touched by the efforts of everyone, took a moment to appreciate both of them. Fran, sensing the tension, tried to lighten the mood.
"Well, Maxwell, it seems you have the privilege of enjoying two treats on your special day!"
As the guests indulged in the cakes, the verdict was clear – [Y/N]'s creation had won the hearts and taste buds of the crowd. C.C.'s surprise was, to put it simply, awful. [Y/n] and Fran had to hide their smiles as C.C tried her own creation before spitting it out and stomping off.
The surprise birthday party continued with laughter and shared moments, and for [Y/N], they truly felt they became an integral part of the Sheffield household.
A/n: I didn't think anyone would read this, let alone like it- I just did this for fun. Thank you for reading!
