Spencer led you into the bullpen under the guise of forgetting a file he wanted to look over during his leave. You had been healing quite well so you now had a cane instead of crutches. Callie was right behind you in case you stumbled.

The lights flicked on and everyone yelled, “Surprise!”

You looked around the decorated room, searching for who the party was for but everyone was looking at you. You furrowed your brow.

“What’s this for?” you asked.

“I just wanted to thank you for being the world’s greatest foster mom for the past two months. I know it certainly wasn’t the easiest job,” Spencer replied with a grin.

He thought this was a great idea and a kind gesture to somewhat repay all the things you did for him and Callie.

You smiled awkwardly at the BAU team and waved, “Hello.”

“Penelope made the cake,” Spencer pointed to the big sheet cake on the table.

“Oh, thank you! It looks delicious,” you politely thanked the blonde woman.

“I’m JJ actually, that’s Penelope,” she corrected you.

“Oh sorry, um-my mistake. I-um-bathroom,” you quickly turned around and limped out of the glass doors.

The team was looking down at their feet guiltily.

“Why doesn’t Y/N know any of your names?” Spencer asked quietly like he was thinking out loud.

“We didn’t really know who to trust during that time so we never got around to formal introductions,” JJ bit the bullet.

“She paid a hefty tuition for Callie out of her own pocket, she brought Callie to the prison 4 times a week so I could be with her, she recorded every single school event so I could watch them when I got out and you didn’t even have the manners to introduce yourself,” Spencer raised his voice furiously, “Y/N always made Callie and I feel welcome and I’m very disappointed that the same courtesy wasn’t extended to her.”

Spencer stormed out of the glass doors while Callie came out of the girls’ bathroom.

“She’s not in there. She left,” Callie stated.

“Shit,” Spencer sighed, running down the stairs to the parking garage with Callie in tow.

You were sitting on the hood of Spencer’s car, waiting to go back home where it was safe and you knew everyone’s name. Even if that just included you, Spencer, Callie, and your kitten, Winnie.

“Y/N, I’m really sorry. God, I’m so stupid. I thought this was a good idea but I should have checked with Callie first,” he rambled.

“It’s okay,” you sniffled, “I appreciate the thought behind it but it was just a bit too awkward for me.”

“How about I go steal us 3 slices of cake and we have a party of our own?” Spencer suggested.

You nodded and a soft smile appeared on your face. Spencer brushed some stray hair behind your ear and kissed your forehead before heading to the elevator.

The teams’ heads snapped up when they heard the ding of the elevator. Spencer stormed off, not making eye contact with anyone. He began to angrily cut into the cake.

“Spence, we’re really sorry-” JJ started.

“Why the hell are you apologizing to me?” he questioned, “That’s not my apology to accept. And maybe next time, I don’t know, fess up to what you did in the first place?”

“We were hoping to make it up to her at the party,” Emily tried to reason.

“Oh, I’m sure a roomful of unfriendly strangers looked like a blast to her,” Spencer sarcastically replied, beginning to exit the bullpen.

“Wait, at least give her the gift from us!” Penelope gave him a gift bag, “It’s a gift card to the coffee shop on West Street and some peanut butter cookies.”

“She hates coffee and that place is nowhere near her work or house. Plus, she’s highly allergic to peanuts but thanks for doing your research,” Spencer slammed the down button on the elevator, stepping in with 3 slices of cake on a paper plate.

The three of you sat on the couch, eating your slices of cake and a bowl of popcorn. Since it was your ‘party’, you got to choose the movie and you chose Legally Blonde.

“This doesn’t make sense,” Spencer stated, “You expect me to believe that Elle Woods got into Harvard Law but that she also got an internship in her first year. Many law schools put in place restrictions on the hours first years can work so they don’t get internships until usually their third year.”

“Shut up and watch the movie, you dork,” Callie playfully threw a handful of popcorn at him.

Once the movie had ended, Callie went up to bed and you and Spencer were clearing the dirty dishes.

You accidentally dropped a fork but decided this was the time to test out Elle Woods’ signature ‘Bend and Snap’.

You slowly bent over, picking up the dirty fork from the floor and quickly snapping back up.

“I think Elle’s statistics were a little off. 98% chance of getting my attention? I would hypothesize 100%,” Spencer grinned as he wrapped his arms around your lower waist.

There was a knock at the door the following night.

“I’ve got it!” you yelled upstairs to Callie and Spencer.

You opened the door to find the BAU team standing outside. One of the men was holding many boxes of pizza.

“Oh hello, um Spencer and Callie are just upstairs doing laundry. I’ll go get them,” you quickly replied.

“Wait!” Penelope exclaimed, “We actually came here to apologize to you.”

“Oh,” you looked surprised, “Please come in.”

“We all wanted to apologize for how we treated you,” Penelope started.

“We should have made sure you had support too instead of looking at you as another enemy,” Emily added.

“We should have invited you out with us,” Tara stated solemnly.

“It’s okay,” you said.

“No, it’s not. We realize that now,” Luke replied.

Spencer and Callie came downstairs with the empty laundry basket just as you were saying “apology accepted”.

“We brought apology pizza!” Penelope motioned to the boxes in Luke’s arms.

Spencer wrapped his arm protectively around your waist like they were still going to hurt you somehow. You blushed slightly at everyone observing the display of affection.

“The kitchen is right over here,” you turned around, “I’ll grab some plates.”

You heard the older gentleman who just introduced himself as Rossi say “Is this a thing now?”

“You have a lovely home,” Penelope complimented you.

“Thank you. I have a kitten so I hope no one is allergic,” you informed them.

“I am most certainly not!” Penelope exclaimed, “I’m the opposite! Is there an opposite to allergic? I prefer to stay as close to cats as possible.”

“She’s usually up on my bed. Callie, you want to go find Winnie with Penelope?” you asked.

“Sure,” Callie led Penelope up the stairs.

You were trying to grab the paper plates from the top shelf of the cabinet when Spencer came up from behind you, placing a hand on your hip and reaching up above you to grab the plates.

“I can set the table,” JJ offered, placing a plate at each spot.

You all grabbed slices and sat down at the kitchen table and on the counter stools.

“Oh my god! Your kitten is just the cutest little thing,” Penelope squealed as she came back downstairs with Callie.

You didn’t miss the hushed whispers of her telling Tara and Emily that a lot of Spencer’s stuff was in your room.

You happily conversed with the team far into the night until you were practically falling asleep on Spencer’s shoulder on the couch. You couldn’t help that you got clingy when you were tired.

“Alright, I think it’s time for us to head out,” Matt spoke for everyone.

“Thank you for coming,” you mumbled out.

“Bye guys,” Spencer waved, unable and unwilling to move from your grasp.

“Come on, angel. Time for bed,” he cooed once the front door closed.

“Can’t make it up the stairs,” you whined, “Let’s just stay here.”

“Fine, we’ll stay here for just a couple more minutes,” Spencer yawned.

Less than three minutes later, you were both fast asleep, cuddled up on the couch.

Didn’t get to anything yesterday, b/c I was writing until almost 2am, but tonight I tidied the corner with the sewing table! It wasn’t a ton of work, but involved some shuffling of boxes and things in a storage area, tucking away the newer, less-good sewing machine, and condensing other things. I also brought over a chair!

BEING A FRIEND OF WINNIE FOSTERS? THAT HAS TO GO A LITTLE SOMETHING LIKE THIS...

the two of you met fairly young - when winnie’s father was still alive, and when they actually left their house every once in a while

you became fast friends

two lonely kids meeting up can bond pretty quickly - you’d be surprised.

you bonded fairly easily - you were both the same age and you both had similar experiences

and you both had the seeds of wanting more sown in the very fibre of your being

the two of you hung out with each other almost every day

and then winnie’s father died

and suddenly, things were very, very different

you would go to her fence every once in a while and look in, trying to see if there was anyone inside.

you never saw her, but winnie would see you from her window and would wish she could be there with you

when winnie met the tucks and came back, she was changed

you were there, the first day she came back, worried about your once-upon-a-time friend

she promised you that day that she wouldn’t let herself be trapped anymore

“i have a life to live, (y/n). you can live yours right alongside me.”

the two of you would go on walks with one another

sometimes you would venture into the wood, but you never got far

winnie said it reminded her of her father, and you knew better than to pry

but you would look in her eyes and see something different... something wistful, something kept secret...

okay,,, but i just got the best idea,,, in some way, shape or form, you are related to hugo

that way we can tie in both of the stories - winnie gets to know hugo because the two of you are close and she ends up hanging out with him by sheer exposure

and hugo is awkward where winnie is confident and carefree

and you are the perfect amount of silly and joking to tie the three of you together

honestly, what an iconic trio you are

all of treegap knows that the three of you are inseparable

and they all know that it’s only a matter of time before winnie and hugo get together

you honestly see it way before they do

so, true to your nature, you tease your brother about it and joke with winnie about her marrying into your family

and when winnie and hugo get married???

you get to give the toast and it’s just perfect???

you all know each other so well that it makes the moment all the more sweet

i just really want winnie to have a lifelong friend, you know?

and when winnie and hugo have kids???

you are the proudest aunt

you just love those kids with every bit of your heart and you are always watching them

and one day, when you are in town and winnie and hugo aren’t there, you meet a young man named jesse

and he seems kind enough

and the two of you talk for awhile about treegap

and the more you talk, the more you realize that he knows you - or, at least, knows of you

you ask him about it and he gets embarrassed, saying he’s an old friend of winnie fosters

and you find that hard to believe - you don’t think winnie has talked about this boy a day in her life, but then, the more you talk to him, the more you realize that the way he talks sort of echoes some of winnie - the part of her that changed while you were separated

and it’s a mystery that you aren’t quite sure how to unravel (or if you want to unravel it), but you have just enough of a curious streak to give in

so you talk to him more

you try to figure out how he knew winnie - how old they were, how long they were together

but jesse is strangely good at covering his tracks

and he mostly wants to reminisce about who winnie was and how she’s grown

and he talks as though growing is apart from him - something he only gets to watch and enjoy from a distance

and you talk to winnie about it and she seems just as oddly sad but happy as he was

“i met a boy in town, a little younger than us, by the looks of it. he calls himself jesse - says he used to know you.”

“jesse... yeah, i remember him.”

you go full detective mode on this mystery, but nothing seems to ever add up

the only thing that tips you off that there’s more to the story than you’re being led to believe is that, later that year, winnie and hugo are blessed with a third child - a little boy whom winnie names jesse

and you give her a look, but she pretends not to see it

and maybe, a long time after, when you no longer believe in the mysteries of the world because you’re too old to give them any mind, winnie tells you a story about what happened to her all those years ago

when she was 11 and wanted more of the world, and then saw her fill

“that’s a lovely story, winnie.”

and you don’t quite believe her, but you let her smile anyway

“it really was.”

BIOGRAPHY

Rowan was born to Cassandra and Tony Kingsley in the early summer of 1992, at which point things were already strained between the two-some because of Tony’s alcohol problem and Cassie’s generally meek personality. Rowan’s brother took a leading role in her care from a very young age, not just because her dad was useless, but also because their mother was so distracted by her need to please Tony that she dropped the ball often. Both her brother and her saw things they certainly shouldn’t have, were told things that no children should be told, and occasionally went without for no reason other than Tony liking control, but he never hurt them physically. However, he did hurt their mother.

Less than a year after her brother turned 18 and moved out of the house, their mother died of an aneurysm suddenly and unexpectedly. Despite how Rowan’s father treated her mother, the loss of her broke him and send him on a 3 month bender that only ended because he was booked with vehicular manslaughter and his 3rd DWI. This led to Rowan being unceremoniously dumped into the system while her father’s trial pended and they attempted to find family members that didn’t exist to take her on. Luckily, Rowan only spent a few months in foster care before the court allowed her brother to assume custody over her.

Her brother had been living in Augusta since leaving their parents’ home, working as a tattoo artist and had found a family within a non criminal motorcycle club that had welcomed him with open arms. From the moment she joined her brother in Augusta, the Valencia became her family. The women, wives and daughters of the organization were the people who taught her everything she knows about being a girl, doing make up, doing her hair, navigating boys. (This is probably why she went through a blue eyeshadow phase at 17).

Rowan is a textbook overachiever and perfectionist, she always had all As, was always in 6 clubs, and held officer positions in every single one including the dance team. While she did hold officer positions, she never really was one to take front and center–she prefers the positions of the people behind the scenes keeping things together. (secretary, treasurer, anything that has to do with organizational skills.

At 18 she received a full scholarship to NYU and left Augusta and her brother for the first time to go to school first time. She lived in the dorms all 4.5 years and graduated with a degree in English, minoring in Psychology. While over her high school years she wrote a lot, and even published one of her short stories in a local newspaper, she didn’t write her first full novel until she went away to college at 18. No one ever read that novel, and it hit the trash during its 5th round of editing. If you ever ask Rowan what she’s afraid of, she’ll tell you losing control again. She notes two prominent times of completely losing control over her life, one fairly recent, and the other while she was away at college. While she was away, she went out fairly often with her friends and one night someone slipped something into her drink.

Nothing happened, she made it home without incident, but the way it made her feel, the way she felt victimized or the potential of being so set her off. She had two drop three of her classes and extend her time in college an extra semester because of how hard she spun out, trying to control things that she wouldn’t typically even think about. She started her senior year 20 pounds lighter with 0% of the friends she had started her Junior year with. While she was away at college her brother became a father, which meant frequent trips home to visit and help out with her niece who quickly meant enough to her to be her own.

She returned home from school at 23 and worked in a bakery until she could live off of her cookie business (at 25 her cookie business was self sufficient). While she was growing her bakery cookie business, she began writing her first professional novel and completed it the same year she quit her job at the bakery. She used contacts she had gained while attending NYU and by the time she blew out birthday candles the next year she had sold the book and was dropped into the whirlwind that was publishing and promoting her first book. While it changed her life or the better and got her foot in the door with the publishing world, publishing her book also led to the the single most traumatizing thing she has ever experienced.

While she was marketing her book, the marketing manager became very demanding of Rowan and her time, which often led to them being together very late at night. One night, while out of town for a book reading, he pushed himself on Rowan. Without going into detail, this assault led to the second occurrence of Rowan losing complete control and her life suffering because of it. After the assault, Rowan threatened to blow the whistle, and in return he threatened her career so he still holds his position with the company and up until her departure he was still her marketing manager. Speaking of her departure, it came as she finished her second book and the marketing department of the publishing company she had been with all but demanded another book tour with the same marketing manager that had violated her. At that point, Rowan essentially threw everything to the wind and has been hiding out in the little beach town her brother and her had frequented for vacations over the years. The woman spent her profits from her last book to buy a little beach house that she would spend her days fixing up while she spent her nights trying her damndest to write something good enough to sell anonymously.

TENDENCIES

Because of how contentious Rowan’s early childhood was, she has a pretty anxious mind that is always running on 100. Her thoughts come a mile a minute and they can be pretty difficult to stop. Melatonin is her best friend.

When she loses control over things in her life (hELLO we meet again control-less childhood) she controls everything she can, and that manifests differently every time. Controlling what she eats to the point of malnourishment, controlling every single word of what she’s writing, putting herself on lockdown until whatever she’s working on is p e r f e c t.

She fixates on her mistakes, in high school if she answered to the wrong name during roll she would be thinking about it for the rest of the day.

She bakes in excess when she’s trying to think through something, the measurements and muscle memory movements help calm her brain into being able to process whatever is on her mind.

She’s always been a writer, from the very first time she had to write in her 4th grade ELA class. That only grew through Middle and High School creative writing classes. She’s always loved exploring the stories and that it was something that she could perfect through six or seven round of editing.

Sticky notes cover her bedroom walls because of how quickly her thoughts come and go, her ideas for books do NOT come in order and she can often be found starring at her walls with her little scribbles trying to figure out what order they should go in.

For someone who would be considered the ‘bright & shiny’ type, she has a thing for researching and watching shows about serial killers. She can rattle off facts like its her day job.

Because of how quiet she can be, sometimes folks assume she’s innocent or that she doesn’t know anything, but in reality the opposite is true. She’s spent so much time watching and analyzing everyone and everything that she knows much more that she lets on.

She learned how to play guitar in college (not very well) and is a pretty damn good singer, but she’d never be the type to want to be front and center in front of a crowd. She mostly uses these talents as a means to an end in writing mini stories with lyrics. It appeases her in the in between period of having finished a book and being able to start a new one.
