Finding hilariously ironic how most of Sanji's perv jokes end up being extremely trans-coded to some extent only because the joke is longer than it should be.

The "guy with a woman's body" joke has been a thing for ages now, but it usually ends after the "haha I have booobs" joke. Sanji extends it to "I want to stay in this body forever. It feels right. I don't want to give it back". Which could still be read as some perverted stuff, but I don't think any man would agree with that. No matter how much of a pervert he is. Because usually being perceived as a woman is something they refuse to go through although they like being in possession sexually of a woman's body (a type of excitement Sanji actually shows, not by being that much aroused by it but being comfortable with it? Which is... A different approach to the joke).

Sanji has made the typical "going into the girl's changing room/bathroom" joke a couple of times, but in Egghead he goes all the way to be extremely frustrated about not being able to do so? And it is obviously different than wanting to keep Nami's body forever. It can still be seen as frustration for not being able to see girls naked. But. But. The fact that the length of the joke increases? The fact that it's way longer than it should be for an average "haha boobs" joke? You know what I mean.

Not to mention his whole arc during the time-skip and how a simple (both transphobic and misogynistic, by the way) joke, goes all the way to show us that Sanji is indeed comfortable in more feminine clothes and environment, until he's pretty much forced to snap out of his fantasy to go back to the crew. But he wasn't having a bad time at all. And it is intended to be a joke, but it's... Longer than it should be to be considered only a joke and to not pay attention to it.

This isn't meant to be an analysis of any kind because if it were I would've worded it differently and would've mentioned how his childhood is also extremely trans-coded, but we all already know that. I just find it extremely funny how all of these jokes that intend to be directed at straight perv men are actually too long to not be taken into consideration as something deeper than a joke. But, aha, yeah, these are just jokes and definitely not proof of Sanji's perception of gender and his issues with it.

One Piece Sexuality Headcanons

Before I begin I should mention, I'm only up to the midpoint of Fishman Island right now, so anything further than that is mostly outside the realm of my knowledge as of writing

Luffy: I mean, it's practically canon that he's asexual. There are so many moments where he's being flirted with and it doesn't even click because he's like a 12 year old in a 19 year old's body and he's too busy eating meat and being an ADHD adrenaline junkie to even waste a second on explaining that he can't become king of the pirates if he catches cooties

Zoro: I do agree with most of the gay headcanons even though I like a lot of straight ships with him like with Perona or Tashigi, but I feel like it's exponentially funnier if his gaydar is completely busted. Like, I could see him getting completely blindsided by the discovery that Dracule "Lives in a dark castle kicking his high-cut high heel leather boots up on the sides of his huge throne while opening his massive satin jacket to show off his completely bare, shaved chest" Mihawk is gay

Nami: We all know she's lesbian, it's not even a little bit subtle

Usopp: Straight and taken. Could have very mild bi vibes because he's good friends with Nami, but I won't like force that tbh

Sanji: The cursed blessing that was his really terrible timeskip arc has gifted us the Closet Trans Sanji headcanon at great and terrible cost. I haven't gotten to that part in the anime but I know that he switches bodies with Nami on Punk Hazard and literally exclaims that being in a girl's body is literally every guy's dream, and, yeah c:

Robin: Shipped with Franky, they just work good together

Chopper: Baby. Next

Franky: Bro's transhuman. I bet even money that after the timeskip he put some kind of goofy inspector gadget contraption down there

💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?

I don't know which fandom you're from, so I'm just going something from the fandoms I've written for: Naruto: I guess we can all agree that Neji's death was completely unnecessary? Look, I didn't even read the manga that far, but I start crying every time I think about it... fix-it fics my beloved! (Also. Like. Unpopular opinion, maybe, but. I may love NaruHina, but NaruSaku would've made so much more sense. But that's two things! So I'm gonna stick with Neji.) One Piece: Now, you might think, I'd pick, ya know, Ace. But I actually think that served a narrative! And at some point, some death had to stick in this series full of miraculous surivivals! And anyway... I want Sanji to be a better character SO BADLY. THE POTENTIAL. WASTED. ON NOSEBLEED JOKES. (Also, make Zoro smile more post-time skip, but the Sanji thing makes me actively enjoy the series less, so...)

(I tried to give you something for Die Wilden Hühner, too, but... I cannot think of anything more substantial than getting rid of the fat-/slutshaming? Oh, wait. Let Steve be a trans woman in canon. I need it, you have no idea...!)

💭 What inspires you and your writing?

These days, it's mostly music. And other fanfics! Do you know when you get that feeling that you want to read more of that exact same thing? Or when you want that thing but changed slightly to the left? That's how a lot of my writing happens these days. That, and making really complicated, themed playlists.

💡How many WIPs do you currently have?

Hmmmm. I'm not really actively working on anything right now, because of real life work and stuff, but I'm guessing... 3 or 4 One Piece fics (1 of those is already on AO3)... 3 Naruto fics (not counting the myriad of KakaGai Thoughts (tm) I have every day). And 3 Die Wilden Hühner fics (Neon, Neon being one of them).
