TR in canon: Took whole cities hostage + important locations like Silph & and the Radio Tower. Shady back alley meetings to run the casinos with fine print reading "if you mess up, we'll be ending this business deal by killing you" @whoever they bought it from that might act as the "face" of it for legalities. Freaking Proton and his Slowpoke organ *cough* I mean tail harvesting in a deep underground, dusty old WELL where you can dump bodies never to be found again, continued in next ask
with a lot of knives and meat cleavers, fun!! what a bloody mess to walk into. I'm surprised the Johto kids didn't get stabbed or alert everybody at once instead of one by one battles. Imagine you're hiding behind a rock and your mom calls at exactly the wrong moment. Where was I? Oh yeah. Shady Cloning Human-Mew DNA history with Fuji, Blaine, and Giovanni. Cinnabar Mansion explosion, island low-key uninhabitable. Now we get to the fun Charles Darwin evolutionary chaos!! next ask, let's dive in!
hopefully last part. Gen 2 introduced Slowking. What was happening in Gen 2? TR was chopping off them tails. Shelders don't have Slowpoke tails to bite? They bite Slowpoke heads, boom. You've got a Slowking. The theory that Ditto is a failed Mew clone. Invasive species to the enviornment. The theory that Koffing is a man-made Pokemon due to it's human-known toxic symbol markings. The canon fact Voltrob/Electrode and Porygon are man-made Pokemon. These guys did a lot!
i wonder if in the pokémon universe there are like. reddit forums that read like this trying to figure out everything an evil team’s ever done. team rocket tinhats you know what i mean

Twst x pkmn, part octavinelle!
Tumblr media
Theme: water and fungi pkmn. Gorebyss is a common pick for him, and I agree! Slowking just reminded me of him + I gave Galarian Slowking to Azul, so matching pkmn! Eelektross is, admittedly not a water type, but eel + shock the heart was good enough for me. Toedscruel bc it’s a fungus and it’s based off Tentacruel, so, fun! Foongus bc… idk. Foongus is cuter than Amoongus and I once saw a cute fanart of Jade with one so… Parasect bc fungus again. I think Jade would find it interesting :)
Tumblr media
Like I said, I gave Azul Galarian Slowking, just bc I think it suits him :). I once saw someone say that Milotic fit Azul, and I think it suits him SO WELL, so I had to give him one. Shiny Lapras bc why not :) and also water + ice type, and they’re from a cold area, and it’s shiny bc it’s originally blue (Azul = Blue) and now it’s purple (the color that Azul is associated with). Octillery is obviously obviousing. Alolan Meowth bc Azul is a sneaky salesman and A. Meowth fit that, and Reuniclus bc…. Idk. He’s smart and I didn’t know what else to give him. Maybe Clobbopus. That fits better probably. Idk
Tumblr media
I think they all just suit him :). Tentacruel and Huntail match his brother, and Slowbro matches the other two. I could see him with a G. Slowbro too, but normal Slowbro to match his brother’s normal Slowking. Toxapex could also be a reference to Floyd’s Bind The Heart if you want to stretch it. Idk. They all just suit him. :)

(*Sigh*) Do I really have to do this…?
Yes, hello, you may call me Avery. Please ensure that you use he/him pronouns for me. Of course, I only specialize in the most elegant of Pokemon, as I’m the minor circuit’s Psychic Type Gym Leader~
If you think you can best me in battle, then I do believe you may have to get your Future Sight checked, ohoho– HA! The mere delusion is enough to make me laugh, as such a thing should be considered improbable…no, impossible! Losing would certainly be a Psystrike to my ego…
Ahem… You will find my absolutely charming Pokemon below:
Galarian Slowbro ♂ - Florian
Galarian Rapidash ♂ - Duke
Swoobat ♀ - Eloise
Alakazam ♂ - Sebastian
Galarian Slowking ♂ - Kingsley
((OOC NOTE: Please read before interacting!!
(Previously part of co-blog, but separated into a solo blog)
Hey hey! Welcome to my Pokémon roleplay blog. On this blog I will be pretending as if the world of Pokémon is 100% real. This being said, I will be including pkmn rp tags in each post that fits that description as a warning.
Friendly reminder that if you try to engage a plot with me or any kind of offscreen rp experience without at least discussing it with me first, then I will likely not respond. Even if you do approach me with something in mind, there is no guarantee I will engage. Also I tend not to interact or engage in any big events. They tend to become overwhelming for me and you’ll most likely never find me becoming a part of them. Please don’t send in asks regarding big events.
If you are looking to interact with my muse, and your muse is tied to some potentially triggering topics, I would prefer if you discussed potential interactions with me first. This is for my own comfort, so please keep this in mind.
Admin is an adult! If this makes you uncomfortable then move along.
This is an RP blog. This means I will be trying my best to roleplay as Avery with the information we have. I will be including several headcanons of mine regarding this character, though none of them are too drastic.
Please be aware that when I am talking as Avery, I will often be sarcastic, rude, self deprecating, and all around unpleasant. If you are uncomfortable with this, it may be in your best interest to move along. If something ever comes off as rude/mean, it does not reflect how I actually feel and is just how I believe Avery would react.
This blog is SFW, save for vaguely suggestive topics. Anything that is deemed as explicitly NSFW will be deleted on sight.
Another warning. This blog may often be involved in long RP threads. I won’t be using any programs to cut my long posts short. If this bothers you, I would recommend skipping this blog or blocking the tag “long post” or “rp thread”.
This version of Avery I’m roleplaying is set after the events of Pokémon Sword and Shield as well as any DLC events.
Also! I follow and like from @ripoff-robbie-rotten.

Hey, I'm pretty interested in contests, and have noticed a lot of interesting Pokemon while watching them! What exactly are some of the common contest breeds?
(///ooc: I looked through the ENTIRE national dex MULTIPLE TIMES for this. Why? Because I wanted to.)
Hello! There are many different types of contests; beauty pageant style contests, performance based contests, battle contests, I've even seen a sub-type of beauty pageant contests that focus on pokemon that are often considered "too ugly" for regular beauty pageants like Trubbish and Garbodor. I have divided this into different parts. Note: Pretty much every pokemon has an official "contest" breed and official "battle" breed.
First is a list of the top 5 most popular beauty pageant contest pokemon with the three most popular contest breeds of each pokemon.
Pikachu. The three most popular contest breeds are the cosplay breed (obviously), the long tail breed (dedenne father), and the bushy tail breed (pachirisu father)
Eevee and the Eevee-lutions. The most popular contests breeds are the snow coat breed (alolan vulpix or ninetales father), the boots breed (nickit or thievul father), and the blue coat breed (alolan meowth or persian father).
Gardevoir. The three most popular contest breeds are the funeral breed (gothita, gothorita, or gothitelle father), the dolly breed (shuppet or banette father), and the ice cream breed (milcery or alcremie father)
Altaria. The three most popular contest breeds are dancer breed (oricorio father), blood cloud breed (rufflet or braviary father), and the Sylph breed (info can be found here)
Milotic. The three most popular contest breeds are the mosaic breed (Galarian Slowpoke, Slowbro, or Slowking father), tropical breed (horsea, seadra, or kingdra father), and reef breed (johtian corsola father).
Performance contests include using dancing, singing, performing tricks, and other show tasks.
Jigglypuff. The three most popular contest breeds are the positive breed (plusle father), the spotted breed (shroomish or breloom father), and the caroler breed (snorunt or glalie father).
Zoroark. The three most popular contest breeds are the will-o-wisp breed (Kantonian Ponyta or Rapidash father), lake spirit breed (vaporeon father), and the watcher breed (sentret or furret father).
Audino. The three most popular contest breeds are the harlot breed (Spritzee or Aromatisse father), the pigtails breed (Tinkatink, Tinkatuff, or Tinkaton father), and the cheerleader breed (Hoppip, Skiploom, or Jumpluff father)
Absol. The three most popular contest breeds are the Egyptian breed (Kantonian Sandshrew or Sandslash father), the Flood breed (Paldean Tauros Aqua father), and the Eruption breed (Johtian Typhlosion father)
Oricorio. The three most popular contest breeds are the ballet breed (togepi, togetic, or togekiss father), the kickbox breed (hawlucha father), and the masquerade breed (pidove, tranquill, or unfezant father).
The "battle" contests are very similar to the performance contests just with a focus on using pokemon moves within the performance.
The hitmon line. The three most popular contest breeds are the ethereal breed (ceruledge father), the brawler breed (spinda father), and the kick-box breed (Buneary and Lopunny father).
Metagross. The three most popular contest breeds are the sundance breed (Solrock father), the steampunk breed (klink, klang, or klinkklang father), and the collector breed (klefki father).
Ampharos. The three most popular contest breeds are the sunflower breed (Chikorita, Bayleef, or Meganium father), the forest breed (Turtwig, Grotle, or Torterra father), and the snowglow breed (Alolan Vulpix or Ninetales father).
Porygon2. The three most popular contest breeds are the magnetic breed (Magnemite, Magneton, or Magnezone father), the ringer breed (Bronzor or Bronzong father), and the salt lick breed (Nacli, Naclstack, or Garganacl father).
Aegislash. The three most popular contest breeds are the pixelated breed (Porygon, 2, or Z father), the butter knife breed (Sinistea or Polteageist father), and the bread knife breed (Fidough or Dachsbun father).
Then there are "anti-beauty" pageants that focus on pokemon that are often considered too "ugly" for regular pageants. (this is my personal favorite type of contest)
Garbodor. The three most popular contest breeds are the petrified breed (Glimmet or Glimmora father), the run off breed (Bergmite or Avalugg father), and the recycled breed (Vanillite, Vanillish, or Vanilluxe father).
Muk. The three most popular contest breeds are the haunted breed (Gastly, Haunter, or Gengar father), the lava breed (Slugma or Magcargo father), and the chime breed (Chingling or Chimecho father)
Golbat. The three most popular contest breeds are the heart breed (Woobat or Swoobat father), the wyrm breed (Noibat or Noivern father), and the statue breed (Natu or Xatu father).
Shiinotic. The three most popular contest breeds are the cherry breed (Bounsweet, Steenee, or Tsareena father), the banana breed (tropius father), and the apple breed (Applin, Appletun, or Flapple father).
Grimmsnarl. The three most popular contest breeds are the warlock breed (Hatenna, Hattrem, and Hatterene father), the strawberry breed (Snubbull or Granbull father), and the snaggletooth breed (Mawile father).

have you reviewed cloyster yet? 😶
Tumblr media
Shellder is super simple and not too different from a regular clam, baring some spikes on the shell and the color, but it does have a real charm to it. This is mostly due to the face—those empty eyes are fun and the tongue is a nice nod to mollusk's radulas that they use for feeding. I also like the detail that it remains out even when the shell is closed:
Tumblr media
The most interesting part of Shellder is actually not Shellder itself however, but rather its connection to the Slowpoke line. When a Shellder bites a Slowpoke, not only does it cause the Slowpoke to evolve but it also changes appearance itself in various ways, suggesting an evolution. Personally, I really wish this had gotten represented in some way. We almost had an intriguing idea in the Spaceworld beta, which has a creature that seems to be a Slowpoke evo minus the 'poke.
Tumblr media
I could easily see this line being a split evo, wherein presenting a Shellder with a Slowpoke tail will cause it to evolve into the above 'mon, while exposing it to a water stone causes the standard Cloyster evo. At the very least, it would've been nice to see Slowbro and Slowking registered as Shellder's evolutions as well instead of solely Slowpoke's.
Tumblr media
As for Cloyster itself, it still doesn't have much of a theme beyond "clam", but it does at least become a considerably more interesting monster at this point. (It's also very yonic, but we won't blame it for that part.)
The entire body has changed to be vertical in orientation, its added two layers of shells, and its covered in much more prominent spikes. I also think that it's neat that the "body" in this stage isn't just a black space, but seemingly a black pearl, which is a cool concept. I do kind of wish it kept the tongue of Shellder, but it did look pretty goofy, so I get why they dropped it.
My only nitpick is that I'm not sure about the top horn. It's extra detail in an already fairly busy design, and it doesn't really attach to the body in a meaningful way. Also, the design is a bit low-contrast. I feel like it looked best in the DP/BW sprites, wherein the purple is brighter to make it stand out from the gray inside shell and the horn is white (though granted, the pearl could've stood to be a bit darker):
Tumblr media
Still, as a whole, these are some fine clams. While their biggest claim to fame is their connection to a another unrelated Pokemon, they at least have pretty straightfoward designs with some interesting elements in there. I wouldn't mind seeing a regional or convergent 'mon for these guys one day (side note: missed opportunity to not give them a Galarian regional to go along with Galarian Slowpoke).

Hello I am actually obsessed with the daytime future post (broken day AU? Like daybreak?). I adore light as vile in fiction because it's so different and fascinating. The dark hides horrors and plays on the fear of the unknown, the anxiety of knowing something could be after you. But daylight horror is in front of you, and you cannot hide from it. Violence and agony on full display. And of course the over abundance of a good thing becoming sickening, turning life into toxin.
Maybe the servants are Helioptiles/Heliolisks (they get Solar Power and are sun themed in general). If you want to replace Dusknoir, he could be a water type and that's part of how he rose in rank to be Dialga's personal servant. Inteleon could be interesting because of the spy motif, or Slowking for the intelligence, or a fully evolve water starter for the imposing vibes. Carracosta is a good option too.
OHHHHHH YOUR MIND, THIS IS EXCELLENT HELL YEAH
Light as a force that can be just as harsh and brutal as it can good is so underutilized and I agree, it's a super cool concept with a lot of potential for horror and cruelty!
Those are some super good ideas for the servants, intelleon and slowing are especially good 😭😭😭😭 I could see both being dialga's main servants - with slowking as the brain of their operations and intelleon as their (probably rather brutal) sniper and master of disguise.
I could see Intelleon heading back to the past to pose as an explorer in pretty much exactly the same way dusknoir does in canon - which then results in the very funny situation of having TWO separate renowned explorers in town giving completely contradictory stories while the townsfolk struggle to decide which to trust 😂

Update: I have all of them now. Happy to help if you need any Scarlet exclusives, though. (Or if, for some reason, you don't want your Miraidon. I'm not willing to part with my Koraidon, but maybe we can work something else out.)
Not saying you have to—I'm happy to help for free—but I do have a Ko-Fi ;)
Will trade for the following Pokémon. DM if interested.
Misdreavus or Mismagius
Palafin*
Passimian
Eiscue
Slowking
Clauncher or Clawitzer
Iron Treads
Iron Bundle
Iron Hands
Iron Jungulis
Iron Moth
Iron Thorns
Iron Valiant
Miraidon**
*Or you can just join me in the Union Circle. I already have a Finizen. I just don't have friends.
**I will trade it right back to you if you want. I know I don't want to part with my Koraidon, so I'll understand if you feel the same about your Miraidon. Unless for some reason you want a different Pokémon in exchange.

Slowpoke Well Research day 7:
This is my last day here on the well, since I don't have more food and I have things to do at home.
In my stay here I have gathered data about each and everyone of the pokemon that live here. Each one of them has a purpose for the enviroment, living together as a society.
Goldeen, Seaking and Magikarp: these two are part of the diet of the pokemon in the cave. They are fished by the slowpoke, stored in the back of the cave where I think the slowking resides and then shared amongst everyone.
Zubat, Golbat and Crobat. they are responsible for going outside to gather berries. The zubats go with their parents to train, the golbats use their extended mouth to easily carry the berries and the crobats defend their group. Crobats are also quite rare, most golbats die of old age before evolving.
Makuhita and Hariyama: they are the ones who protect the cave. The makuhitas are more active, scaring off people that are disturbing the enviroment and keeping the young ones safe from the fights that can happen once in a while. The hariyamas are the ones who stop the fighting, usually with a single loud clap.
Chingling, Chimeco and Absol: these are the pokemon responsible for everyone's safety regardings natural things. The absols sense the danger and the chinglings and chimeco work together as an alarm, guiding everyone to safety.
Bronzor and Bronzong: they come right after the safety crew. Using their psychic abilities, these pokemon are responsible for restoring broken parts of the cave and sometimes creating new routes. I think some of them are responsible for moving the maze around so no ones disturbs their "queen".
Slowpoke: these are the fisherman from the cave. They spend their days with their tails underwater just waiting until something bites. Also, they're not that common, surprisingly, since this is the Slowpoke Well.
Slowbro: since they have their tails covered, these pokemon cannot fish anymore. I've seen some of them roam around the cave in a interesting pattern, with each one of them in different parts of the cave. I've also seem 2 of them acting as "royal guards" to the "queen".
Slowking: In my stay here, the only Slowking I've seen is in fact the "queen". Since every pokemon respects her presense, I think that she is the one who "rules" this place. She also seems to be a very kind ruler, even tho her magesty barely comes out of the end of the maze where Slowking supposedly lives in.
That's all for today.

Generation VIII/IX Regional Pokemon Nicknames
Let's see this through. Last nickname post! ... I think. Here we go!
Tumblr media
Oh, and there's something in the Generation VII Dex that I've never seen before, so... huh.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
So... um... that happened, huh? Interesting. Did I really lose that many minor memories from that incident... The Meltan looks like a Ditto with an Unown bolt on its head, and Melmetal looks like a Terran Hellbat. But this isn't a Fire type. So... hmm... "Screwbat".
Tumblr media
That explains the Meowth-like thing from the Generation VIII post. This thing kind of looks like a pinecone. And the bird that becomes Sword's slow bird. A Mr. Mime that's a jester, not a mime... that becomes a gentleman. It looks like it got its sh*t together. And a Yamask that doesn't have a mask anymore.
Tumblr media
I vaguely recall hearing about this somewhere. So this thing went from being a horse on fire to a unicorn. Psychic/Fairy but with a physical attacker's stats. ... Blech.
Tumblr media
So instead of biting the tail, the Shellder bit the hand for the Slowbro, and instead of biting the... gold-plated head, it tried to swallow the whole head for the Slowking. "I can't see sh*t!" Can this Slowbro go Mega? ... Does the Shellder swallow the upper body this time? Heh. "Clamfist" for Slowbro, and... "Clamface" for Slowking.
Tumblr media
Industrial Revolution Pokemon! ... Or maybe those are supposed to be long top hats, and not factory chimneys. Hmm... "Hat Factory"!
Tumblr media
... Huh. So these things are straight up named as something completely irrelevant now. Especially in Japanese. Freezer, the Psychic type. Thunder, the Fighting type. And Fire, the Dark type. Makes perfect sense. ... Sure, whatever. "Psychuno", "Flustercluck", and "Shadowflame". I was going to call the "Zap"dos as "Fistdos", but it doesn't have fists. It's just a fighting chicken. Freaking chickens...
Tumblr media
Ah, so there were a lot more regional pre-evolutions that result in those things in the Generation VIII Dex.
Tumblr media
Huh. A fire breathing snowman. ... It's going to melt itself. ... It looks like it noticed that it has timed life that's rapidly diminishing, given the snowman eyes... Hmm... "Timey Tim". Carbot Animation's Starcraft joke. "Look, Zeratul! It's Timey Tim! Timey Tim's about to time out!" (pop)
Tumblr media
... I remember this thing from Shield's team. It was fired for a reason, and that was because it didn't learn its lesson from White's team.
Tumblr media
... Huh. Cool. I don't think I named the normal Tauros. Hm... "Brawlos", "Hotrod" (beef jerky), and... um... "Dampbull"? I got nothing else.
Tumblr media
Ah. That explains the weird Quagsire.
... Am I done? ... Wait. No I'm not...
Tumblr media
... There's so much "new" sh*t... "Reintler".
Tumblr media
The hell is that thing? ... Oh. Scyther/Scizor thing, but... with rocks. Sure. Um... "Struck". Because I named my Scizor as "Strike".
Tumblr media
Looks like an Ursaring fused with a Turkey because of that... thing on its back. But it's a Ground type? Um... "Molebearbird". It ain't a Manbearpig, but it's close.
Tumblr media
... Is this any different than a normal Basculin? ... Then again, I don't remember what that looks like... I think I made one before. Don't remember if it was still there in Ultra Moon.
Tumblr media
Fighting/Poison. Interesting. "Weaviler". Because why is the evolution form still a "Sneasel"?
Tumblr media
Hey, remember Qwilfish?! It's not a fish anymore! ... Um... "Minesweeper". Because it looks like a Minesweeper mine.
Tumblr media
... ... Okay. "Dotted Eye". There's a Yakuza 3 substory called "Dotting the Eye", where you have a harrowing encounter with a "legendary" thug, whose super scary tattoo is that of... cupid, with a big heart shape and 愛 (love) in the center. "... Let's just go, aniki. We don't have time to deal with idiots."
Tumblr media
The Arcanine looks cool. But Fire/Rock is such a sh*t typing...
Tumblr media
... It's part Grass type because it's made of wood? But... then it's going to fail at being an electrode since wood doesn't... huh??
Tumblr media
... Oh no. Fire/Ghost. Immune to Fake Out, Extremespeed, and Mach Punch. 119 Sp. Atk over 109. Slightly slower, but still has Flash Fire. ... That's an improvement on the Eruption All-in build. Good thing we both retired, otherwise I'd have gotten blasted by this thing at least 4 times. Behold, the new and improved Ragnaros the Firelord!
Tumblr media
Hmm. The normal one I called Ultralisk, so... the new improved one should be called "Torrasque", the hero variant of the Zerg Ultralisk.
Tumblr media
Huh. I made the normal one because of Own Tempo + Petal Dance. So that flowery dancer now... kicks? That sounds like Majima's Breaker Style. So... "Breaker".
Tumblr media
That looks like a Flood combat form of a Zoroark. So... "Infestation".
Tumblr media
... Such a random ass Pokemon to get a new skin... Psychic?? Such a random ass Pokemon to get a random ass type...
Tumblr media
... Huh. Fascinating. A steel slug form of a... slime Dragon. ... I remember I overhauled Blue's team to have a Goodra. And I believe it has never made an appearance yet. ... Good thing I didn't specify which Goodra?? Also, this thing's nickname has to be "Metal Slug".
Tumblr media
... This thing is a regional form? ... Oh. Oh yeah. ... If I couldn't remember the normal one...
Tumblr media
Hmm... I think the Ghost one is a lot cooler. So is the Ghost one the... um... ghost of the Fighting type one? It died and came back as the standard Grass/Ghost? Hehe.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whew. I think that's all of them. I think. I didn't include the new Dialga and Palkia forms that do literally nothing, since... they do literally nothing. It's just a skin.
The Sword/Shield regional forms... are weird. It seems like the developers picked Pokemon whose names indicate either the type or the appearance. And the new regional forms lose that typing or appearance. Moltres, Japanese name Fire, is now a Dark type? Why.
Shield: "Your region's Pokemon are so weird! Unova Yamask has a mask?!" White: "... Should... should it not?"
Meh. Whatever. I don't give a damn. That said, with that, I am truly fully caught up on new Pokemon! ... I think. ... Right?

@its-whitetomorrow
Hello again. Sit down for this one.
...........................................................
But it's not real life. The cast are burnt, blown up, electrocuted or fall off cliffs and survive without a scratch.
If something as vital as standard rules of mortality don't count, why should any sort of deadening nihilism?
Pokémon is a fantasy series about catching magical animals in space-age capsule technology. It's entertainment and escapist adventure.
So for its characters to abide by a 'nothing is good, nothing is bad, everything just IS' defeatism, and then, since this is the most 'realistic' view, it must be the correct one, is not only a bizarre idea, it's a good sign of what's wrong with Pokémon anyway.
First, there's a difference between being believable and realistic.
We accept this is a world where living things can be stored as data, because we understand such feats are possible by the laws of this universe.
We believe it. We watch and never question the mechanics of the process.
But is it realistic? No.
By the same logic, if I take in the somewhat gloomy 'life is messy/shades of grey/shit happens' verdict of our existence, that doesn't mean it applies to Pokémon also, or that it ever should.
Life being awful and withering is precisely why far-removed fantasies are popular.
People need things to cope, so any moralistic shrug is quite out of place.
However 'nuanced and complex' this reading is, or makes Team Rocket, something that just drags Pokémon into the same pit we're all in has no business there.
Why can't we hope?
Why can't we believe in redemption?
Why can't we wish someone might be saved?
Why can't a fictional universe be idealized?
Why can't those we admire be better than us?
Why must it always be so exhausting in relentless negativity?
I don't mind flaws, but I don't want anyone as flawed as reality. I'm trying to like these characters.
Tumblr media
The leap from Lugia isn't intended to be a one-off, miraculous cure, where they were evil up til that very second, then TING! and suddenly we've upstanding members of society.
It's the culmination of dozens of little incidents and experiences building up from the moment they first met Ash.
So not the start, or the single event, but the pinnacle of the goal, their revelation, as in the original title.
That's not to say there had to be any clear indications of alteration beforehand.
Children don't notice themselves growing physically as it's so gradual. It's only when pointed out that it becomes obvious.
Spiritual changes are as incremental. In the meantime, Team Rocket carry on doing as they always do as the path of the least resistance.
As in romances where the main pair think of themselves as friends or bickering enemies, until one is injured or set to leave, whereupon the other realises almost too late what they're about to lose.
So it takes a crucial turning point, such as the end of the world, for the trio to realize how far they'd come.
In the conversation with Slowking, Jessie is surprised they're not bad, as if resigned to society's view of her, only now opening up to another way.
Point is, she and the boys accept they have good in them, and are worried about the Boss's reaction to this change.
Tumblr media
It's interesting this film is set during the Orange League, after Jessie and James are mistreated exceptionally badly by Cassidy and Butch.
Now they know what it is to be the victims of Team Rocket, that Giovanni cares nothing for them and even 'the family' are disloyal and violent to their own.
About the only people prepared to offer help and sympathy are the Twerps, who have every reason not to care, but do.
Tumblr media
As to the matters to which you referred me:
With the first, I'm guessing if this isn't your work, you agree with its argument.
Might this 'they were always evil' stance be provoked in part by a protective instinct towards Unova, thus trying to neutralise the most common and prevalent criticism of it, i.e that it ruined Team Rocket's character and stripped them of all their best qualities?
In the second, I was relying on a decade-old memory of a scene I'd watched only once, but it came back fairly accurately.
Sub:
Yeah, we work for an evil power. But that's not why we do it. There is no reason.
Not that we would define it as evil. We just do what we feel like.
Dub:
We don't need a reason to do what we do. It's just in our nature. We were made like this. It's not our fault.
Not that we are evil anyway. We do what we want because we can.
The only 'philosophy' here is my existential despair.
I bet Jean Paul Sartre was declaring 'Hell is other people 'cause he'd seen this first.
So they have no intrinsic sense of good and evil. No line not to be crossed.
Everything is simply an amoral mush of dog-eat-dog selfishness.
They'll take whatever they want, do whatever they want, act however they want, just as they feel like it, obeying each barbaric instinct that briefly flits across their warped brains.
There is no greater purpose, or even desperation to survive.
Not because they desire power or riches.
Not because they love the Boss and crave his favour.
Not because they're loyal to the team that welcomed, fed and trained two lost waifs who showed up one day.
Not because they're stuck in a situation they can't escape and fear the consequences of failure.
Nah. They feel like it.
They rob, prey upon and upset children just as no one stops them.
It's a twisted form of fun.
Team Rocket is merely a flag of convenience to fund their wretched, meaningless lifestyle.
And I'm supposed to love THIS?
Tumblr media
Original Team Rocket:
MWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA!!! OOOOOOH I LOVE BEING EVIL!!!
Tumblr media
Nu Team Rocket:
But what is evil really? These are just labels.
We only do what we want, and it's not for you to judge. This is merely your opinion. We don't care about it.
That is the difference I see.
No more hope, no more making the best of things, no signs of something better buried beneath.
All gone, eaten up by a coldness that burns to the touch.
Whenever I have seen rocks or mountains used in analogies, it's as a ruse to teach a sense of perspective to rookies.
The newcomer selects to be the rock, thinking it an immovable tower of strength.
The master then shows how, given enough time, even the mightiest crumble under the constant flow of wind and water.
Team Rocket are now rocks: hard, unfeeling lumps, drowned by the waves of darkness.
Redemption was the best outcome. They won't be good for anything soon enough.
Evil will wear your soul away as sure as the river erodes the rock, all washed to nothing in the end.
That Jessie and James choose to be there now, because they can, and don't care about anyone else, is no comfort.
Tumblr media
If as you think, despite the overpowering and irreversible bent towards evil, they can nevertheless express emotion...
Not because they have an innate sense of right and wrong...
Not as it awakens a buried idealism...
Not as the stone carapace closed around their heart is starting to crack...
But simply as they 'feel like it', in a whim, a fancy, a shallow slip of amusement that wasn't here yesterday, won't be here tomorrow, and exists just at this very moment, then it's not endearing.
It's grotesque.
It's a flippant pretence of tenderness masquerading as genuine warmth.
It's evil playing up to normal courtesy for its own entertainment and probable benefit.
Having vague bouts of 'goodness' just as a passing mood, indicative of nothing beneath the surface, lacking any lasting sincerity, isn't good at all.
It means no one can trust their appearances or feel secure in that company. They never know when any of them could switch from menace to mawkish self-indulgence and back again.
It suggests a certain unnerving instability, like a split personality, and given it's so empty, comes off as a conscious sadism, offering everyone false hope the trio are respectable at heart, hence a relax in defences, as was intended.
I'm weary of evil people always being congratulated as 'nuanced and complex'.
It happens with other fandoms I'm in, just because the person couldn't help but do a non-evil act, such as go to sleep or eat a meal.
The amount of fans I've seen desperately clutch at irrelevant stuff like that, even for actual human beings whose deeds had real consequences, preaching this proves Not Everything He Did Was Bad, and so obviously he wasn't bad at all, is tiring.
I get the impression evil is viewed as somehow superior, the connoisseur's choice, the really sophisticated option.
I am so, so, sick of their endless excuses.
When we have a paragon of virtue, someone we all recognise as morally superior to the rest of us, no one praises them as inspiring or admirable. We say she's boring.
Well the opposite also applies. Complete, irredeemable evil isn't inspiring or admirable either. It's tedious.
Worse, criticism of the living saint is mainly spite and resentment, but everyone's entirely justified in condemning wickedness as lesser and despicable.
If this whiter-than-white example should then indulge in brief, inexplicable acts of cruelty, not for any real reason, just as she 'felt like it', we don't praise her as so 'nuanced' and 'complex'.
We brand her a hypocrite, that it's all been a sham and she was never good in the first place.
So goes the reverse: someone 'evil' who's capable of great compassion and kindness isn't evil.
That ability to feel concern for others can't exist, since its absence is the very aspect that renders them evil in the first place.
To have a generous, warm-hearted evil-doer is a complete self-contradiction.
It's not a matter of 'shades of grey' or 'defying expectations', once you pass a certain point, emotional consequences are irrelevant.
That's how you can be evil.
What else is evil but a dearth of goodness, as in love and generosity?
Tumblr media
I brought up the East and West traditions as a theory as to why Pokémon became so popular.
For it to enjoy universal success suggests it must've contained themes with a broad appeal.
Ash was clearly travelling for enlightenment, and as Team Rocket were villains, and yet sympathetic, this heralded a better future.
If not, then their presence amounts to what they call a Shaggy Dog Story: big build-up, great potential, and then it... ends, and nothing comes of that early promise.
If they weren't supposed to have redemption, that means the journey is a waste of time.
They stay the same the whole way through, never learning from their mistakes, or that crime doesn't pay.
And no character development, merely a constant plod of the same failings, unable to rise above to deserve a happy ending.
For if the last of their light is extinguished, then it's too dark to see, and too bleak to care.
So why are they here? And why are we? Who benefits?
And how was it intended to finish when it was only one series?
Ash wins the League, and what? The credits come on, with no explanation of what became of Team Rocket?
Do they stay put, wait for him to make a move, or chase after someone else?
And we leave them still serving an evil, ungrateful master, with no actual resolution to their time with us?
And how will it end now?
Providing it ever does come to a close, and doesn't carry on and on until cancelled, what's the outcome?
A. Ash is shown preparing for a land we won't see, and Team Rocket follow, and it's left open.
B. One final battle: Giovanni falls and is arrested. Our trio, being so integral to him now, are imprisoned too.
C. One final battle: Giovanni falls and is arrested. Our trio, somehow overlooked, are left to their own devices.
Then what?
I. Join another gang?
II. Just walk off together to an unknown fate?
III. It's The Team Rocket Episode, so on comes the emotional incontinence from nowhere, and we're supposed to accept a declaration of love in the last five minutes, and that's all?
Where are we meant to go under these 'always evil' limitations?
Tumblr media
Do Team Rocket defy every held notion?
Is that the core of their fascination?
I'm not sure it's possible. They sound like a pretentious modern art installation advertised as 'incomprehensible'.
Considering how detailed their TV Tropes entry is, and how often they're mentioned on the main pages, they must fulfill some established themes.
To me, their role aligns closely to the outlaw archetype, representing the 'honour amongst thieves' style, that of free spirits skirting the law, a bit sneaky but not to the point of serious criminality.
In youth, I understood that whilst Ash's life was markedly better than Team Rocket's, rationally it still wasn't that pleasant.
Walking hundreds of miles, day after day, in blistered feet and exhaustion, homeless and living a hand-to-mouth existence, cadging a free meal and bed once in a while, but always moving on, vulnerable in the wilderness, with no one to take care of you, isn't a childhood I could've managed.
Nevertheless the lack of school was all I cared about.
As with Jessie, James and Meowth, I can see a wild romanticism to it, ignoring the obvious.
The outlaw ideal seems attractive: no ties, no responsibility, no boring urban confinement, but travelling ever onwards, living to the rhythm of nature.
We know none of us could survive it, that's why we admire those that can.
Even if it were possible to subvert and upend every previously set goal of storytelling, doing so would be self-defeating, since the most successful stories resonate with an audience.
I don't mean they 'relate', as in reading their own personal circumstances in a character. This is in a bone-deep, primal sense.
TV Tropes has a list of 'Older Than' tropes (Older Than Steam, Older Than Dirt etc.), the idea being the further back a plot can be traced, the bigger impact it makes.
As events in childhood leave a greater impression, since our development is shaped by them, so we are more affected by themes created when Man was once young.
There's little conscious awareness, but we can't help soaking up our surroundings and imbibe the folk memories of ancestors.
Therefore, abiding by the Eastern and Western traditions is not only the logical thing to do if anyone wants a hit, it's such an instinctive aim it's probably unavoidable.
Ash has the East covered, whereas the trio's tale fits the West so well.
Jessie, James and Meowth entered our world trapped in Hell, at the feet of Giovanni's throne.
Redemption isn't for everyone. Certain acts are beyond forgiveness.
The Boss is gone, maybe all of Team Rocket are too.
But if three can be saved, if the door can only be opened, and it takes little Ash Ketchum waving Pikachu in the air to lure them into the light, then so be it.
And when it comes to the Western canon, as symbolism goes:
Tumblr media
Ash died, and rose again.
Tumblr media
Team Rocket: arms outstretched, like a cross.
No imagery will ever hit harder.
In that moment, all the flaws fall away, and finally they understand.
If nothing's worth dying for, where's the use in living?
...........................................................
I wish I knew what others thought, and whether they agreed with you, or me, or otherwise, and why.

My Top 25 Favorite Pokemon:
#6 Slowpoke, Slowbro and Slowking
Slowpoke’s symbiotic relationship with Shellder is very cool. I kind of wish there were a way to truly implement this in the games outside of a Pokedex entry, it’s still a great part of the game’s interesting lore.

Krenko’s Guide to Pokemon: Shellder Line
Tumblr media
I’m sorry, but every goofy, throwaway comment I can think of for this Pokemon is absolutely filthy, so I’m just going to say nothing and let you all wonder what I was thinking about for this clam-based pokemon. DESIGN:  Shellder is modeled after a clam, but given big adorable eyes to remind you that clams are actually living creatures. Though real clams don’t have tongues, what they do have are a single large, fleshy, pink foot they use to move around with, which often resembles a tongue. The sheller design takes this visual trick and makes it real.  Shellder looks enough like a clam to be obviously a clam, but also different enough that one would never mistake it for a clam that wasn’t a Shellder, and that’s a successful design in my book. It’s also cute. Shellder’s evolved form, Cloyster, is clearly going a bit more Oyster style, with the old darkness of Shellder’s head very clearly being a pearl now. Cloyster looks powerful, dangerous, thoroughly spikey, and yet still unique. It’s clearly some sort of bivalve, but also clearly an original creation. I have absolutely zero complaints about this design.
Tumblr media
EVOLUTIONS:  Shellder + Water Stone = Cloyster. It’s that simple. And like many stone evolutions, Cloyster stops learning moves.  There’s a pretty big power gap between Shellder and Cloyster, and in fact it’d be mechanically fine if there were another stage between them, but Pokemon doesn’t add middle evolutions, and we don’t need a third one on the bottom or the top... But how about a third one to the side? See, Shellder has a second evolution that we all know about and that we all have but none of us have it in our Pokedex. Cut from Gold and Silver, meet Turban, courtesy once again of Dr. Lava.
Tumblr media
For those not in the know, it’s said repeatedly throughout the games that when a Shellder bites a Slowpoke, they both evolve, either into Slowbro or Slowking, but the game’s never had a mechanic for that. Instead, it’s just a factoid around Slowpoke as you evolve it normally. In the anime and side games, though, we see Shellder evolve into Turban multiple times, but it’s always still referred to as the Shellder, or part of the new Slowbro/Slowking.
We don’t know much about what Turban can do on its own, and we may never, but Generation 2 almost gave it to us as an alternate form of Shellder. Turban, as its name suggests, is based on the Turban Snail.  How it would’ve evolved is unknown, as the game data at the time of the leak didn’t actually include any way to get Turban.  This isn’t unusual for the demo- Chikorita wasn’t programmed to evolve, even though Bayleef and Meganium were in the game-but it does leave the question eternal. It’s possible it required feeding a Shellder one of those tasty Slowpoke Tails that Team Rocket’s after. Personally, I’d still love to find a way to get Turban in the future, but it seems like the moment’s passed... and besides, it’d be weird if it was stronger than any of Slowpoke’s evolved forms that require its assistance.
Tumblr media
Art by PeregrineJazmin TYPING: While Shellder is a Water type, Cloyster is Water/Ice and we were just here like two Pokemon ago weren’t we?  Water/Ice is decent offensively, super effective against six types,  but Ice is such an awful defensive type that Cloyster winds up with four weaknesses and only two resistances. It’s double resistant to Ice, which is helpful, but rarely necessary. STATS: Cloyster has 180 defense, and 45 special defense. It can tank some pokemon all day, and others are just going to one-shot it. It’s weird to see a Pokemon with 180 defense and say it’s not here to be a wall, but with poor HP and Special Defense and not many resistances, Cloyster’s 180 defense is a perk that makes it hard to stop, not a tool to win a drag-out brawl.   For offenses, Cloyster has a decent 95 attack and a below-average-but-inoffensive 70 speed. Cloyster needs to be built for speed to keep up, but it can be, so that’s fine.
Tumblr media
Art by raizy
ABILITIES: Shell Armor grants immunity to critical hits. Overcoat grants immunity to Hail (which Cloyster already has), Sandstorms, and Powder/Spore moves. But we don’t care. Because Cloyster has Skill Link and Skill Link is what makes Cloyster great. Skill Link says that if a move can hit multiple times, it hits the maximum number of times every time. I’ll get into why this is so good in the Moves section, but I want to be very, very clear right here: Skill Link is what makes Cloyster a strong Pokemon.
Tumblr media
Art by Zebes MOVES: Cloyster is better as a Physical Attacker than as a Special Attacker, so its Water move is generally going to be Liquidation. Except... Cloyster doesn’t necessarily need a water move.  Ice already hits ground, so it only needs Water to hit Steel, Fire, and Rock. Keep that in mind and we’ll come back to that later. Cloyster’s Ice attack is Icicle Spear.  Formerly Cloyster’s signature move, Icicle Spear is a mediocre move that hits 2-5 time for 25 power and 100 accuracy, averaging at just under 80 power... But Cloyster has Skill Link. With Skill Link, Icicle Spear is 125 Power, 100 Accuracy, STAB, Physical, and doesn’t even make contact. With Cloyster’s decent 95 power, this is amazing. And you know what else triggers off Skill Link that Cloyster can learn?  Pin Missile, Rock Blast, and Spike Cannon. Spike Cannon’s garbage, so don’t worry about that, but Pin Missile’s solid and Rock Blast is super-effective against Bug, Fire, and Ice types, and does neutral damage against Rock and Steel Pokemon. Though technically weaker than STAB Liquidation, it’s better coverage for what Cloyster needs.
It’s also important to note that if Cloyster uses a King’s Rock, every hit of  Icicle Spear, Rock Blast, and other similar moves give a chance to make the target flinch, giving Cloyster better odds against foes that can survive a turn against it.
Tumblr media
Art by JRCoffronIII
Now, the real way to take advantage of Cloyster’s huge defense in battle is to reliably have a turn to set up, and Cloyster has one of the best set up moves in the game: Shell Smash. Shell Smash lowers Cloyster’s Defense to something still respectable, tanks its Special Defense even further, and raises Attack, Special Attack, and Speed each by two stages.  As long as you’re confident whatever’s in front of you isn’t going to drop you in one hit (and a Focus Sash can ensure that), a single Shell Smash puts you in a position to start sweeping with Icicle Spear and Rock Blast.
For a fourth attack, Cloyster has options. While Liquidation isn’t necessary for coverage, Cloyster’s special attack isn’t that much lower than its physical attack, and with Shell Smash it might be worthwhile to pick up one special attack for enemies that are physically defensive.  If you do this, Surf or Hydro Pump for the added coverage is good. Other options include Icicle Shard, the Ice-type equivalent of Quick Attack, the aforementioned PIn Missile to be super-effective against Dark and Psychic types, and Explosion for when you absolutely positively have to make sure something’s dead. For non-attacks, Cloyster can learn Spikes and Toxic Spikes,  as well as their opposite, Rapid Spin, all of which can be very useful.
OVERALL:  Shellder and Cloyster have great designs, and thanks to Shell Smash and Skill Link Cloyster has a very unique combat style that’s really solid and has its place in a lot of teams.  It’s funny to me that it really looks like it should be a slow, tanky Pokemon but it’s actually best at just mowing down everything in its way with Icicle Spears. I don’t have much to say about Cloyster because Cloyster is great as is. I don’t see a need for improvement, or a change, or a new evolution or anything. The only thing I’m really interested in seeing from this line down the road isn’t even more power, it’s that I’d like to finally see Turban playable on its own.

HELLO HELLO! long time no see :)
I was going to post about all the new information we got from the Pokemon Sword and Shield expansion video but that's already been done. Instead I've decided to post about something much more dear to my heart. The teaser of the Galarian Slowbro and Slowking! BUT Not only that! This post evolved into basically an appreciation of my favorite Pokemon family. I know some of you may not think Shellder and Cloyster belong in this family but technically Slowpoke couldn’t grow without them. On that note let's get into it.
GALARIAN SLOWKING!
Tumblr media
The first Pokemon addressed above is the Galarian Slowking... or Slowqueen?... Based on the information we were shown I think what happens to this iteration of Slowking is the Shellder crown, instead of just sitting on Slowpoke's head, swallows the head almost completely. You can see this in what looks like the Shellder Shell's eye in the left side of the scribbled out head. In doing this the Shellder becomes the pilot in this symbiotic relationship. Not only that but the Poison of Shellder seeps through Slowpoke's body even more than in the original Slowking making this version a Poison/Psychic type! I designed the shell to resemble Cloyster's spikes more than the original look. Another neat aspect could be seeing the powerful Poison/Physic energy flowing through causing a smoky aura to leak out through cracks in the crown as pictured below. As for how it evolves I'm not really sure. Maybe instead of a King's Rock it could be the Queen's Ore that you find in the Crown Tundra!
Tumblr media
Some people seem to think Slowking could be a ghost or dark type this time around. With the Shellder possibly breaking, maybe the spirit inhabits or possesses Slowking? I like the idea of the crown breaking so I sketched this up!
Tumblr media
GALARIAN SLOWBRO!
Tumblr media
Secondly we have the Galarian Slowbro. The first thing to mention about the information we've been given is that this iteration of Slowbro has no Shellder on it's tail! This is odd because originally it was said that in order for Slowbro to even stand it needed the counterweight of the Shellder to lift it. I figured that meant this time around Slowbro is stronger on it's own. Hence the flex pose I gave it :) In the bottom left of the leaked imagery above we even see what looks like Slowpoke possibly learning to stand by itself? We also see a sketch of the Slowpoke fishing so where does the Shellder go? In that leak image, top left, it looks like the tail is possibly flinging the Shellder up. This, combined with the Pokemon website talking about Galarian Slowpoke's body changing through seeds it eats might mean that the Shellder doesn't hold on the same way? Maybe the tail has become bitter and Shellder no longer likes the taste? So Possibly when Shellder is "reeled" in it releases itself BUT lands on the Slowpoke's head instead of staying on the tail. This theory comes from another small glimpse we get in the teaser. A small image of Slowbro's purple head. We don't see Slowbro's ears so I took it upon myself to unwind them. Along with that, I took the purple forehead as more of the Shellder shell than just color. We do also see an image of the trainer Avery with what looks like a royal looking Slowbro complete with a tiny hat/shell and a frilly garment BUUUUT I kind of feel like this is an artsy picture of a Slowpoke dressed up. I could be wrong though so I added the features in the image below. Anyways, with the Shellder on it's head instead of tail, it doesn't change shape the same way. With no delicious tail to munch on the Shellder finds no reason to "evolve" itself. The Shellder's poison begins to seep through Slowbro but not in the same way as Slowking. It pushes poison through Slowbro's body giving him strength to stand as well as making it's hands and tail a purple color. I think this version of Slowbro would also be Psychic/Poison. Who knows how it will evolve. Possibly fishing the same way Slowbro’s lore has always been but as for in game it could be an item or it could be leveling up. We will have to find out in the Isle of Armor.
Tumblr media
I don’t really think the frilled chested Slowbro is going to be part of the evolution but some people seem to think it could because of a new Galarian Shellder. I’ll admit when I first saw the image I thought maybe it could be something but the fabric around the neck made me think it was just clothes of some sort. That plus are they really going to also add a Shellder regional variant on top of the three new Slows? BUT for the sake of artistic fun I thought what if a Galarian Shellder had parts that looked like a neck tie? and I’m pretty sure a frilled clam shell is a thing…  So I whipped up the pearl cheeked, smooched lipped Galarian Shellder you see below! I realize that this type of shell is basically what Clampearl is based on and it very well could just be that that helps the evolution. Really, it could be a number of older gen sea dwellers that could contribute. Only time will tell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s a theory floating around that’s pretty interesting. The same way that I made Galar Slowbro have a Shellder helmet because we can’t see the top of it’s head in the teaser, people are saying because we can’t see it’s left hand maybe something happens to it? One of those somethings could be that Slowpoke fishes out a Shellder with it’s hand instead of it’s tail. This could result in some sort of powerful shell fist? or a rocket arm shell? who knows? When I was drawing this it reminded me of a arm cannon so I added the same “smoke/aura” I used on my Galarian Slowking (or Queen?)
Tumblr media
I’m REALLY hoping on top of all the cool new Slow-ness we also get Gigantamax forms of both these majestic beasts! Maybe something like a Slowpoke surrounded by a giant Shellder coral reef? Maybe because the Corsola of Galar are dying it could look like dying angry coral reef? Here’s a sketch up of the idea I had.
Tumblr media
...Well that's about all I have to say about our new Galar Slow family. Seeing as how this has become a Slow Family appreciation post I'll continue with the odd looking Shellders.
Johto Shellder & Johto Cloysters!
Tumblr media
Using very old concept art for variations on the Shellder shells attached to Slowbro's tail, I came up with the art for this Shellder trio. Not to mention in the Beta for Pokemon Gold and Silver it was revealed that this Shellder was going to be a stand alone Pokemon! Because of that Beta I'll be referring to them as Johto Shellder and Johto Cloysters.
Tumblr media
It's said that when Shellder attaches to Slowpoke not only does it's shape change to become more defensive but also to get as much flavor out of the tail as possible. I thought a neat way to acquire this Johto Shellder would be to "evolve" a Slowbro at a high level holding an item and an open slot in your party I was thinking you could give Slowbro some sort of berry that fills up a Pokemon for a very long time with a single bite. Leveling up a Slowbro holding this berry causes an abundance of nutrients to flow to the Johto Shellder. Being full, it lets go of the tail but retains its form. This leaves the trainer with a Slowpoke in the empty slot and a brand new Johto Shellder in it's place! From Here I figured you could evolve the Johto Shellder in two ways. A higher defense stat would result in the small but thick Johto Cloyster and with a higher attack stat it would evolve into the soft but super spiky Johto Cloyster! woo! I Haven't really decided the typing of these Pokemon yet.
The Johto Shellders I drew originally came from an older project I was working on. If you want to check out "Capsule Monsters 0 & 1" you can follow this link:
https://funhaversclub.tumblr.com/post/49391556862/just-like-before-with-every-picture-ive-added
Tumblr media
Finally we have this Slowpoke with it’s little white belly exposed. This was a sprite used in the Japanese version of Pokemon Gold and Silver before being changed when it was released everywhere else. I thought this could be seen as a rarer type of Slowpoke that is VERY hard to find BUT has much higher stats. Kind of like a unique shiny. That OR it could be the Slowpoke that you get after evolving a Johto Shellder.
Speaking of Shiny. This entire family of Slows and Shells have some unique shiny forms. We have yet to see Galarian evos Shinys but maybe I'll update this post with an interpretations of what I think they could look like later? for now here are all the shiny versions we currently have!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the Galarian Slowpoke has been implemented into Pokemon Sword and Shield we know what the Shiny Galarian Slowpoke looks like. Based on that, I’ve “Shiny-fied” my predictions of the Galarian Slowbro and Slowking.
Tumblr media
I can’t wait to see what these guys actually turn out to look like! :)
I've taken some artistic liberties above but for a complete fan fic Slowbro evolution check out this idea on what other shells Slowbro could acquire:
https://funhaversclub.tumblr.com/post/115033630741/a-new-pokemon-fan-trend-going-around-its-drawing
Tumblr media
Welp thank you for coming to my Slow Family ted talk. I'll leave you with a picture of a Slowpoke I found down by the beach near my house :) What a cutie.

Pokémon Sword & Shield; Crown Tundra DLC (Thoughts)
After months of finally waiting Nintendo has blessed us in the Pokemon community with a release announcement for Pokemon Sword’s and Pokemon Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC
If you haven’t seen the video and want to keep yourself spoiler free consider this your ✨ spoiler warning! ✨
If you haven’t seen the video and want to learn more just click on the link below to watch! There’s this freaking awesome animated music video at the end that I really recommend! 😁
youtube
At first glance the video doesn’t tell us much new information that we didn’t already know. We got see more of the Crown Tundra’s beautiful landscape, quick cutscenes of the Legendary Bird’s Galarian Forms, Slowking’s full design reveal, and we got to see a couple new Pokemon that will make a return! Like my boy Dragonite! 😤👀
Tumblr media
I’ll try to keep my thoughts brief as there isn’t really too much to talk about and I’ll break down my thoughts with each topic.
Let’s do this!
Galarian Slowking
After the original teaser of the DLCs as a whole, Pokemon showcased part of the designs for Galarian Slowbro and Galarian Slowking, which got some of the community very much excited.
While we were able to obtain Galarian Slowbro in the Isle of Armor, showcasing its unique design and moves, we now look forward to seeing what this new Galarian Slowking that will be featured in the Crown Tundra can do.
Tumblr media
I’ve never really had a chance to or the initiative to use a Slowking before in any way, but I think this looks cool. It has a mysterious, shaman-like vibe further exemplified by its purples and pink colorations and its single green gem. It’s always cool to appreciate a ‘new look’ in a Pokemon with these regional forms.
It’s now a Poison/Psychic and has the ‘Curious Medicine’ ability which, if I read that correctly, nullifies the effects of an ally Pokémon’s status drops. So, if your Pokemon gets hit with Intimidate, Galarian Slowking’s Curious Medicine will change that -1 Attack back to a neutral 0. From the looks of it, this will be a real advantageous ability to use in double battles currently popular.
Furthermore, it gets a cool new move called ‘Eerie Spell’, a powerful move that both inflicts damage and reduces the opponent’s last used move by 3 PP. All I can say is that this Pokemon has a high probability of appearing often in online battles, so ready yourselves for it!
I think it’s awesome that Pokemon is now targeting Status and Hacks within battles this generation. Introduction of Pokémon and moves that target these specific mechanics really heighten the unpredictability of your opponent (unless you’re me XD) to create new battle experiences where any fun combination of moves and battle styles are possible. Even previous Pokemon not normally brought to online battles often are making appearances.
What do you think about this new Galarian Slowking? Would you add it to your team?
Landscape
I want to take a quick moment and appreciate the landscape that the Crown Tundra will offer. It’s a beautiful snowy mountains where we’ll go on expeditions, the amazing , but there’s also color to it, particularly with that giant pink tree we often see in the trailers revolving around it.
Tumblr media
It’s hard to say what this beautiful tree and it’s fruitful bounty will be used for, maybe for Galarian Slowbro’s evolutionary method or have to do with the Legendary Bird’s Lore but thats just speculation in my part. I really think it’s nice to appreciate a landmark that a lot of players will probably go and admire.
But my favorite part about this is the temple, or castle in the snowy mountains here!
Tumblr media
For some reason, while the design is not the same by any means, my first thought when I saw this was that it somewhat reminded me of the Lengend of Zelda’s Temple of Time a little! Haha 😄
Regardless of what it may bring, I’m sure we’ll have a good time simply exploring the whole place alongside our walking pokemon.
Galarian Star Tournament
Tumblr media
This is one of the features I’m very excited for!
You’ll be able to partner off with gym leaders, rivals, and all around people you’ve met around your journey to participate in multi battles against other famous trainers you’ve encountered in your journey! 🤩
Tumblr media
You’ll face against teams involving Nessa and Milo, Leon and Hop, Mustard and Klara or Avery (Depending on tour version) among many more in these coming tag battles!
I’m hoping this one has online connectivity, if it hasn’t been confirmed, so I can tackle these battles alongside my friends! I’m sure these’ll be super intense!
Rounding off my Thoughts
I realize that there isn’t much to say from what we already know and overall, I personally, was satisfied. Or more like my anxiousness for this DLC’s release is somewhat appeased at the moment 😝
The release date for the Crown Tundra is coming in October 22 of this year, and while I wish we had a bit more to go on I think we can expect pretty good things from this installment.
While I’m still not too keen on having every legendary Pokémon available in one place, it’s fair to acknowledge that because of Max Raid Battles these legendary Pokémon won’t be as easy to catch as before (not that they ever were to begin with). And many players who like these amazing Pokémon, whether for their design, battle prowess, memories etc., will get a chance to hopefully obtain these powerful mons on their teams. It’ll be interesting at least to see their following/walking animations XD
Sadly, there wasn’t any lore revealed either for the Legendary Bird’s or the Regis aside from what’s already been given ;-;. BUT! I think the mystery allures me to them even more and I can’t wait to find out about it •_•
There’s more good news though! If you’re a fan of special cap Pikachus that were previously distributed in Gen 7, then you have the chance to get them again for your Pokémon Sword and Shield games! They’ll be holding distributions for them throughout the coming weeks!
You can get your first one, Original Kanto Cap Pikachu, by imputing the code P1KACHUGET in Mystery Gift for your games!
That’s all for now everyone! ✌🏼
What are your hopes and thoughts for this DLC? What Pokémon do you hope to encounter alongside the already revealed ones?

Top 3 Favorite Betas from Pokemon Gold/Silver Spaceworld Demo
Hey, everyone. Back with more favorites lists. Considering the jaw-droppingly huge list of beta pokemon that were recently discovered for Pokemon Gold/Silver, though, we’re going to cheat a little. We’ll be doing top 3 lists within some broad categories, so we can ramble a bit longer then normal about some of these beauties.
Beta Babies
Tumblr media
So, as we’ve seen, Gold/Silver’s beta was absolutely crammed full of baby pokemon, the vast majority of which were scrapped. It raises some interesting questions about the original direction of the game and the concept of baby pokemon in general. What exactly was the purpose of baby pokemon? Were they originally intended to have such low stats and to be so difficult to evolve (via happiness)? Were they really just for the ‘aw’ factor?
If so, it might be easy to see why Gold/Silver cut so many of them; while the game would have certainly been a very cute place, it would have been difficult in terms of actual battle. Still, it’s a genuine shame to see some of these squishy blobs go. Three of my favorites:
Para– because Paras/Parasect is my favorite pokemon line, and I was absolutely thrilled and amazed to see a baby originally planned. The design is damn adorable, although it admittedly makes little sense. The parasitic fungus that slowly takes over the insect portion is what grows inside and consumes paras/parasect, so why should a baby para burst forth from a mushroom?
Chiks– because it is literally a fluffy ball of shouty heads and I love birds. (although, again, the design raises a question; where did that third head go when chiks evolves into duduo?)
Meowsy– I mean c’mon who isn’t going to love this
New Evolutions
Tumblr media
Another shocking thing in the list of beta pokes is finding new evolutions to old friends.
Madame– an evolution for Dux. This thing looks fantastic as heck. I’ve always loved Dux and quite honestly it deserves an evolution. I can’t imagine why it would be cut, especially considering how fabulous it is. I’m curious what the ‘cane’ Madame is holding is, and whether it’s still something made of vegetation. Seriously, though, this duck-evolves-to-swan idea is far superior to the later Ducklett/Swanna that came about.
Animon– the evolution we never knew we needed. In all seriousness, it seems utterly pointless for Ditto to evolve (it still only knows the move Transform and nothing else) from a smiley blob to a screamy blob with a spike on its head, but that’s part of what makes it hilarious and charming. It doesn’t make sense for Ditto to even evolve (which is maybe why they scrapped it). It also doesn’t make sense that it evolves with Metal Coat. (were they considering adding a steel typing?) Nothing about Animon makes any sense. But damn, it’s still fantastic.
Twins– At first glance, one could easily assume this is a ghost type, maybe even a nifty beta concept for Ghastly. But this is a Dark/Normal type and a pre-evo for Girafarig. Maybe more then any beta, I feel like this has a backstory behind it I wish we understood. It seems the concept behind Girafarig was much deeper, originally; spirits that were conjoined twins, one dark and evil, one not? It’s quite a twist.
Betas With Major Changes
Tumblr media
A lot of pokes in the Spaceworld demo were recognizable but their beta forms often had some pretty significant design differences that were later tweaked. In some cases those tweaks were clear improvements or just adding some polish, but in other cases I honestly prefer the original direction the beta designs were headed.
Girafarig– we’ve known about the beta design of Girafarig for a while now, about its palindrome motif and probably being based on a pushmi-pullyu. It’s only with this beta that we get a really good look at the wonderfully sinister face with Girafarig’s backsprite, though. Ever since I saw Girafarig, I thought its typing ought to be Normal/Dark, and it’s deeply gratifying to see that typing reflected in the beta version. It makes so much more sense and shows the split, dual nature of Girafarig. The entire original design makes so much more sense and it’s strange and confusing that they would ruin that.
Rayleep (beta Mantine)– holy crud you guys, beta Mantine was actually COOL. Playing again on the dual-nature theme, it seems to have an angel-devil motif with the bottomside looking feathery and angelic and sweet and the topside (and backsprite) sporting dark markings and a sinister face. It’s adorable, it’s cool, it’s a fun and neat design, and it’s a thousand times better then the Mantine we ultimately ended up with … which is an incredibly bland, dull ray indeed. What’s more, Mantine’s Flying typing feels far more justified in its beta design, with its cool feathery wings and tail.
Tael (beta Aipom)– I hate Aipom. I always have. Really ugly pokemon and really annoying movepool. Makes me feel itchy and gross just to look at. Tael, on the other hand(s), is a cat with far too many humanlike hands. It’s cute at first and then kinda creepy the more you stare at it, to be honest. But hey, it looks better then that irritating monkey did. That’s all. I don’t have a deeper reason then that, haha. Some people have remarked Gold/Silver’s beta was clearly the Cat generation; cats everywhere, as far as the eye can see. I am OK with this.
Other beta differences I really dig include Murkrow’s more obviously witchy hat, the Hoppip line’s cat theme, and Tangrowth’s very different and snazzy look.
Completely New Betas
Tumblr media
Then there are these guys, ones without any ties to any pre-existing pokemon whatsoever.
Wolfman/Warwolf– Excuse me? These fuzzy little things are amazing. It seems to be a small, stout, dark-colored critter wearing yeti pelts, their glowing, beady eyes peering out from the mouth of the pelt. They have a very unique and fascinating desgin and a lot of intrigue to them. I absolutely love them. They’re pure Ice types and seem to have been replaced in Gold/Silver with the Swinub line, which is an even bigger shame, because I don’t like that line’s design one bit. You can keep your pig mammoths, I’ll take the clan of mysterious snow gremlins, please, thanks.
Kurstraw/Pangshi– these two would have been incredible ghost-type additions to the game. A panda voodoo doll and then a panda based off a Jiangshi? Heck yeah. Their sprites both look great and they’re well-designed and obviously a lot of thought went into it. The concept is perfect. So why cut them? Who knows. Some folks have speculated that back then, they may have worried these pokemon were too morbid for a kid’s game, so I suppose that’s possible. They may have also worried about controversey from parents or whatnot. In any case, it’s a huge shame to see them cut from the roster.
Something that’s particularly interesting is that Kurstraw evolves at level 1. It also seems very likely that Curse would have been its signature move.
Rinring/Bellboyant– these two pokes have a clear and appealing design theme behind them. And they’re Dark type. And they’re cats.
How could they throw these two away?!
Other amazing pokemon include a line of Water/Steel types that are based on a shark with an anchor and a gulper eel, a seal that’s a Water/Fire type (!!), Slowbro/Slowking’s shell as a stand-alone pokemon, and a water starter line that looks way cooler then the totodile line.
Anyway, it’s some pretty exciting stuff. This group of beta designs that were dumped on us was so huge that I think we’re all still struggling to mentally process the information. In a way it gives that old pokemon feeling … the thrill of discovering some new neat critter everywhere you look.
This is a repost on a new blog. The original post was on Jun 7, 2018.
