In Defense Of Fate: The Winx Saga
I’ve had the opportunity to finally watch Fate: The Winx Club Saga, and I’ve got to say, for starters, that I am delighted to have had a series I’ve watched since I was young grow up with me into this new age.
I’ll try to keep things spoiler free, maybe? But I’d like to take a stand for the new series as I’ve noticed it’s been getting a lot of hate from what is an already very delicate fandom. I think the majority of the fandom has been having a hard time adjusting, or accepting this new take on the series, due to how many English dubs there’s been on the matter: Rai, 4kids, Nick, etc. to start off and perhaps even from what we’ve seen in general throughout all these years of Winx Club, thus each of us have different thoughts and expectations from what we’ve seen and come to know, admittedly it had some influence on me itself.
But, while watching the new live action adaptation I chose to hold back my worries and approach this new chapter with an openmind, reminding myself that it was an adaptation based on the Winx Club series, therefore I couldn’t expect that it would be a play by play of the original animated counterpart. Admittedly, at first, it took some getting used to as for the most part those who grew up watching the animated series are used to a very PG setting in its language and presentation. The live action series took a very different approach when it came to something we love very much, but I don’t personally think it was for the worse, for me.
It’s an adjustment, yes, but I think the beauty of this live action series offers its more mature audience a bit more of that... well... maturity we’ve all been asking for. Yes, it takes some elements from other shows (like Riverdale I believe), but I also think it stands out on its own by bringing its unique lore that the writers worked hard to incorporate while simultaneously reminding us of the show’s origins through little references and familiarity of what we’ve come to know, such as the incorporation of Stella’s family heirloom, the Ring of Solaria, which hasn’t been seen in the series since Season 3. (though it did make a brief appearance in Season 7)
Another thing that might throw people off, that I’ve seen, has been the cast itself. Flora being replaced by Terra, Tecna not being cast on the live action series, and all around not having cultural representation among them itself; that’s something I can understand, yet while that may be a cause for some concern I think the actors portrayed their roles rather nicely and worked hard to give a good portrayal of this new series. A lot of things were changed, and that’s hard for some of us to accept or even get used to, but I find it a little unfair that there are those willing to call it quits solely because the series does not meet their personal expectations, which is probably a factor in all of this.
Personally, I think it was beautifully portrayed, even with the little flaws here and there. Incorporating the lore about the Changelings was a unique way to tell a bit about Bloom’s story this time around, it gave Bloom and the audience a chance to feel the emotion behind the truth during the episode (for those of you who watched it, ya’ll know what I’m talking about) when she spoke with her parents, seeing how Stella is put under constant pressure as a Princess of Solaria by her mother was... a bit out of left field admittedly, but it gave Stella a whole new dynamic that I’d like to continue to see evolving into Season 2, and even the incorporation and fate (haha, see what I did there? :D) of new and ‘old’ characters alike was surprising to see up to the very end of the first Season.
The live action series chose to focus on a very in-depth story to keep us, the audience, engaged with it and it’s characters rather than spoil us simply with fairy forms like we’re often used to every episode as of late, and it was a great move for a large portion of us who wanted to see the story evolve into something more dynamic.
Now, I understand that even after watching the series it may still not be your cup of tea, we all have different tastes and that’s okay! But it’s not entirely fair for people to bash it and try to discourage others from enjoying it solely because it doesn’t meet individual expectations/hopes. We should embrace this change and walk into it as a community. Iginio’s work with Netflix was well worth the wait for many of us and we should be allowed to enjoy it. 🙂
Whether you found something to enjoy about the series or perhaps you still feel strongly about your position let’s try to communicate our thoughts, share your voice, but just respect each other. Let’s try to stand united as a community rather than at odds with one another. 😁

Hoenn Headcannons
Had this in my drafts for the longest time! Lol. Just based off the Beta Version of R/S/E and Remakes!
The phenomenon of the strange rings that appear across Hoenn have sparked all sorts of interests across the Pokemon World. With many seeking to capture illusive, powerful creatures that appear from these mysterious rings, while others wish to research these ring portals. Due to this Hoenn has become a popular tourist spot in recent years.
Geological studies suggest that in the distant past, some areas of Hoenn, like the areas around Mt. Chimney, previously featured gentle coats of snow. Researchers state that shifts in the region’s land pushed the region to warmer climates over millions of years. Meanwhile, some folklore regarding this say Regigigas pulled the region to warmer weather after it heard the pleas of the region’s Pokémon in need of warmth.

So, as a fan of Nintendo games, I’ve noticed that 2021 will mark the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda and the 25th anniversary of Pokémon. I wonder how Nintendo will handle the focus of events of these two great game franchises. 🤔

Pokémon League Champion Duties
(Requested by @puresilverdemon - I hope you enjoy!)
At its core, the Champion role is about being a cultural figurehead, one that represents the region on the international stage and nurtures the development of the League. Historically, the Champion was a designated protector for a given region, selected to defend the land from external and internal threats, but the modern-day role bears only shades of these ancient duties. Said role is also subject to variation; not all Leagues are the same, and certain regions allow Champions to have more responsibility than others.
The Indigo League
Due to the sheer volume of challengers that this League attracts - and the resulting high turnover of Champions - the duties attached to the role have diminished in the last few decades. The Indigo League is staunchly determined to stay true to its roots, but a position that changes hands so frequently cannot require long-term commitment, nor a hugely specific skill-set. Especially when the League has next to no say in who takes it.
As a result, the Indigo Champion is expected and encouraged to participate in League meetings, but is not contractually required to. Such meetings may pertain to the appointment of new Elites and Gym Leaders, the dismissal of current ones, strategies to attract more challengers of a particular type speciality, funding allocations, scheduling, networking events, and countless other day-to-day headaches. Champions that fully engage with League matters - Lance, for example - are always well-respected, but they are few and far between. The majority are either more interested in the flashy side of Champion life (like Blue) or are simply badly-suited to governance, despite their best efforts (such as Gold).
The only steadfast duties of the Indigo Champion pertain to battle, public appearances, and traditional duties. If a Champion is defeated, they must escort the victorious opponent into the Hall of Fame. Blue caused a great deal of embarrassment when he refused to extend this ritual to Red. Red was a similar (albeit less obtuse) headache when it came to making public appearances, and sparked utter chaos when he disappeared.
Many suspect the Indigo Champion’s duties will reduce further over the next few years. If not for the League’s grim dedication to tradition, they might have adopted a system similar to Kalos’s a long time ago.
The Hoenn and Sinnoh Leagues
While not identical, the systems in Hoenn and Sinnoh are similar enough to be discussed in tandem. Neither League has a hugely high Champion turnover, as the Indigo League draws away a large proportion of challengers. As a result, Hoennese and Sinnohan Champions can be expected to stay in the role for longer, and thus retain more of the responsibilities that Indigo Champions need not concern themselves with.
Aside from overseeing the League, the Hoennese Champion must demonstrate a vested interest in the region’s cultural and spiritual practices. They are granted passage to the Cave of Origin and must visit it on the first day of each year, so as to pay their respects and vow to protect new life. An annual visit to Mt Pyre is also traditional, usually in the seventh lunar month, in order to honour the dead.
The expectations on the Sinnohan Champion are not dissimilar. After winning the title, challengers must cement it at Spear Pillar, by kneeling at the stone altar and pledging their dedication before Arceus. It falls to the defeated Champion to guide them there. Ascending Mt Coronet is no quick or easy feat, and many believe that the prospect turns away potential candidates. There has been talk of removing the ritual, or at least holding it in a more accessible location, but Cynthia refuses to let the motion pass.
The Unova League
The Unovan League is significantly younger than the Japanese Leagues, but the Champion role comes with an unexpected amount of responsibility. More than in any other region, the Unovan Champion is expected to network with Gym Leaders and the towns and cities that surround them. While the Champions in Kalos and the Japanese regions rarely battle outside of official matches, the Unovan Champion is encouraged to engage with grassroots training communities and battle informally wherever possible. The League has no desire for the role to seem removed or elite, because their ethos and marketing centres heavily on the notion that anybody can make it to the top.
The Kalos League
The Kalosian League is controversial for a handful of reasons, but predominantly because their Champion position is not entirely open. Unlike in other regions, where the Champion changes with immediate effect in the event of a defeat, the Kalosian position is reviewed every two years. All challengers who defeat the Champion within that period are used to comprise a pool of applicants, from which the most suitable choice is selected. Said choice is supposedly based on strength and availability alone, but many believe that it is simply a way to exercise more control over who takes the position. Nonetheless, the process does afford a little more job security than most regions can offer, as it guarantees that the Champion will retain the role for at least two years.
In terms of duties, the Kalosian Champion is required to oversee the appointment of all Gym Leaders and Elite Four members, attend exhibition matches, and particularly demonstrate the region’s prowess abroad. Unlike Galar and the Japanese regions, which have fairly localised battle scenes, the Kalosian league is particularly known for its international presence. The Champion must be willing to travel.
The Alolan League
The fine details of the Alolan Champion position are yet to be worked out, given the newness of the League. Some have suggested that the Champion take a spiritual role; others claim that this would give the position a false sense of grandeur. On the other hand, keeping it as a mere celebrity role makes the residents of Ula’ula nervous - what if Tapu Bulu came to believe that the Champion was being worshipped in its place? How might it react?
Nobody is sure. Nobody is very sure about anything, when it comes to the new League.
The Galar League
Unlike the other regions, Galar embraces the fact that the Champion is predominantly a celebrity figure. Outside of battling - national and international tournaments, exhibition matches, the Champion Cup -  their duties are mostly publicity-based, as they are not required (or expected) to oversee how the Major and Minor Leagues are run. That job falls to the chairman. The Champion is told which fundraising events to attend, which buildings to open, which interviews to do, which reality TV shows to guest appear on. Similarly to Unovan Champions, they also dedicate a chunk of the off-season to grassroots battling and engagement with local communities. This is how many Galarian Champions find their way into coaching and scouting.

Pokémon Sword & Shield; Crown Tundra DLC (Thoughts)
After months of finally waiting Nintendo has blessed us in the Pokemon community with a release announcement for Pokemon Sword’s and Pokemon Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC
If you haven’t seen the video and want to keep yourself spoiler free consider this your ✨ spoiler warning! ✨
If you haven’t seen the video and want to learn more just click on the link below to watch! There’s this freaking awesome animated music video at the end that I really recommend! 😁
youtube
At first glance the video doesn’t tell us much new information that we didn’t already know. We got see more of the Crown Tundra’s beautiful landscape, quick cutscenes of the Legendary Bird’s Galarian Forms, Slowking’s full design reveal, and we got to see a couple new Pokemon that will make a return! Like my boy Dragonite! 😤👀
Tumblr media
I’ll try to keep my thoughts brief as there isn’t really too much to talk about and I’ll break down my thoughts with each topic.
Let’s do this!
Galarian Slowking
After the original teaser of the DLCs as a whole, Pokemon showcased part of the designs for Galarian Slowbro and Galarian Slowking, which got some of the community very much excited.
While we were able to obtain Galarian Slowbro in the Isle of Armor, showcasing its unique design and moves, we now look forward to seeing what this new Galarian Slowking that will be featured in the Crown Tundra can do.
Tumblr media
I’ve never really had a chance to or the initiative to use a Slowking before in any way, but I think this looks cool. It has a mysterious, shaman-like vibe further exemplified by its purples and pink colorations and its single green gem. It’s always cool to appreciate a ‘new look’ in a Pokemon with these regional forms.
It’s now a Poison/Psychic and has the ‘Curious Medicine’ ability which, if I read that correctly, nullifies the effects of an ally Pokémon’s status drops. So, if your Pokemon gets hit with Intimidate, Galarian Slowking’s Curious Medicine will change that -1 Attack back to a neutral 0. From the looks of it, this will be a real advantageous ability to use in double battles currently popular.
Furthermore, it gets a cool new move called ‘Eerie Spell’, a powerful move that both inflicts damage and reduces the opponent’s last used move by 3 PP. All I can say is that this Pokemon has a high probability of appearing often in online battles, so ready yourselves for it!
I think it’s awesome that Pokemon is now targeting Status and Hacks within battles this generation. Introduction of Pokémon and moves that target these specific mechanics really heighten the unpredictability of your opponent (unless you’re me XD) to create new battle experiences where any fun combination of moves and battle styles are possible. Even previous Pokemon not normally brought to online battles often are making appearances.
What do you think about this new Galarian Slowking? Would you add it to your team?
Landscape
I want to take a quick moment and appreciate the landscape that the Crown Tundra will offer. It’s a beautiful snowy mountains where we’ll go on expeditions, the amazing , but there’s also color to it, particularly with that giant pink tree we often see in the trailers revolving around it.
Tumblr media
It’s hard to say what this beautiful tree and it’s fruitful bounty will be used for, maybe for Galarian Slowbro’s evolutionary method or have to do with the Legendary Bird’s Lore but thats just speculation in my part. I really think it’s nice to appreciate a landmark that a lot of players will probably go and admire.
But my favorite part about this is the temple, or castle in the snowy mountains here!
Tumblr media
For some reason, while the design is not the same by any means, my first thought when I saw this was that it somewhat reminded me of the Lengend of Zelda’s Temple of Time a little! Haha 😄
Regardless of what it may bring, I’m sure we’ll have a good time simply exploring the whole place alongside our walking pokemon.
Galarian Star Tournament
Tumblr media
This is one of the features I’m very excited for!
You’ll be able to partner off with gym leaders, rivals, and all around people you’ve met around your journey to participate in multi battles against other famous trainers you’ve encountered in your journey! 🤩
Tumblr media
You’ll face against teams involving Nessa and Milo, Leon and Hop, Mustard and Klara or Avery (Depending on tour version) among many more in these coming tag battles!
I’m hoping this one has online connectivity, if it hasn’t been confirmed, so I can tackle these battles alongside my friends! I’m sure these’ll be super intense!
Rounding off my Thoughts
I realize that there isn’t much to say from what we already know and overall, I personally, was satisfied. Or more like my anxiousness for this DLC’s release is somewhat appeased at the moment 😝
The release date for the Crown Tundra is coming in October 22 of this year, and while I wish we had a bit more to go on I think we can expect pretty good things from this installment.
While I’m still not too keen on having every legendary Pokémon available in one place, it’s fair to acknowledge that because of Max Raid Battles these legendary Pokémon won’t be as easy to catch as before (not that they ever were to begin with). And many players who like these amazing Pokémon, whether for their design, battle prowess, memories etc., will get a chance to hopefully obtain these powerful mons on their teams. It’ll be interesting at least to see their following/walking animations XD
Sadly, there wasn’t any lore revealed either for the Legendary Bird’s or the Regis aside from what’s already been given ;-;. BUT! I think the mystery allures me to them even more and I can’t wait to find out about it •_•
There’s more good news though! If you’re a fan of special cap Pikachus that were previously distributed in Gen 7, then you have the chance to get them again for your Pokémon Sword and Shield games! They’ll be holding distributions for them throughout the coming weeks!
You can get your first one, Original Kanto Cap Pikachu, by imputing the code P1KACHUGET in Mystery Gift for your games!
That’s all for now everyone! ✌🏼
What are your hopes and thoughts for this DLC? What Pokémon do you hope to encounter alongside the already revealed ones?
