tbosas tributes in a time loop!!

lucy gray lands back in time (on the train ride to the capitol) after being declared victor, she doesn't win the second time, but finds that treech, who had won that time, joins her back in time, and so on...

lucy gray & treech end up allying bc they're the only two who have been through this before, and if there's no set end, then they might as well figure out the limits to this, right?

treech makes sure that lamina wins the next time, and boom! new time traveller joining their crew. so the new plan is to get everyone in the loop. it's a challenge, considering how insane it sounds, but it's not like any of them are going to oppose being victor given the chance

but, what they don't realize until later, is what happens when there is no victor - lucy gray and reaper are the last two in one such loop. the snakes are released, both of them die, with reaper lasting only minutes after lucy gray, the tenth hunger games bears no victors.

upon arriving at the station, coriolanus isn't the only one waiting to greet his tribute. clemensia dovecote is also there, and there's a haunted look in her eyes, almost like she knows how this will end.

Her name is Genevieve Sacrosanct Radiance Celestia Way and she has short white hair in a bowl cut and-

Vivi, as her friends would call her if she had any, is a recent graduate from Hero of Prophecy High, a boarding school for rich people to get rid of their kids who have too much Protagonist Energy

Given that Vivi has the little-known medical condition Alexandria’s Genesis which basically guarantees you’re gonna have some heroic shit happen to you, it was clear to notorious oil baron Shadowgod Way that he would wind up dying to give Genevieve a tragic backstory if he didn’t send her to Hero of Prophecy High

This campaign is set in a distant fantastical future, and Hero of Prophecy High is all that remains of the Catholic Church after 20,000 years of magic bullshit. It’s also no longer a high school and instead is a K-12 institution with no vacations or outside contact. All this to say that Genevieve has no idea what “being gay” is and still feels guilty about saying “frick” a decade ago.

She graduated solidly in the upper middle section of her class, but it turns out that colleges don’t accept credits from Hero of Prophecy High, and as far as the job market goes, “benching 300 pounds” and “knowing the weak points of a dragon” do you no favors in a city where flipping burgers needs three years of prior experience and a Master’s degree

She thinks her bowl cut looks cool and heroic, has never had a real friend, and can parry fall damage with a sufficiently heroic-looking three point landing.

We just had an episode that implied Eddie didn't know he could say no to the possibility of sex with Marisol. It was also implied that option didn't occur to Buck either.

And now there's a speculation that Buck and Eddie are not just letting loose and having fun... but are drugged and out of their minds.

Eddie getting his shirt ripped off because he's finally breaking out of the box he's been confining himself to? Beautiful and poetic and I love it.

But it's possible and that pisses me off.

(Whump is always fun. But in canon, with two characters who don't know they can say no and one who's been assaulted before, it's not good!!! This show is fantastic about handling serious issues and heavy conversations. Consent? Not so much).

Unfortunately, since there's possibilities surrounding consent right now, I have a theory or two.

If they're really copy pasting BT onto Eddie and Marisol, then they could possibly do the 5x11 thing and Eddie is going to kiss someone. Drunk. (Or drugged, depending on that spec). Consent? Don't know her.

But if they do, it could shatter the box he's been in, and himself. I hate the idea that Eddie always has to completely break to be able to heal, but he doesn't know any other way to be. Ryan hinted at the possibility of Eddie breaking again. So what makes it happen, what does he learn from it, and how does Marisol factor in?

If they do the BT parallel and he kisses someone, consensual or not, he's going to feel incredibly guilty about it. He's failed as a boyfriend (and knowing him, he'll twist it around as failing as a father too) and the box will break again.

The next few episode titles even lean into the guilt of it all. Ghost of a Second Chance, Step Nine, even Unfinished Business is ominous enough to suggest the storyline is involved there too.

With the writers for 7x08 being Juan Carlos Coto and Bradley Marques, and Coto being who wrote the breakdown, I wouldn't be surprised in the very least if something happened that episode. It doesn't need to be a breakdown again, but it can be this cathartic experience where Eddie finally lets go of the guilt he's been carrying for decades.

The title for 7x08 has been on my mind since we found out about it. Step Nine in AA is about making amends, no matter what. It's going to be a Bobby centric episode, no doubt, but Juan Carlos Coto usually writes episodes that are big for both Bobby and buddie (2x06, 3x09, 4x05, 5x13, 5x16, 6x10 to name just a few). Add in the fact Bradley Marques is writing it with him, the guy who's only done episode 100 so far, is... Interesting!

Bobby is likely making amends with Amir. Eddie has to make amends with himself. If we get a realization or a coming out that episode? I will pass out.

They're setting it up to be a brilliant queer storyline for Eddie. I would HATE for it to be tainted by drugs and a lack of consent and another cheating storyline.

And if they don't go the drug route (yay!), then an almost between Buck and Eddie would most likely be enough to make Eddie feel guilty about it and then have to face it and realize he has nothing to feel guilty about at all. Nothing happened. He just realized he wants it to happen, and for a moment it felt like Buck did too. It would push him to either hide with Marisol or drop her and be free. And since he's grown and recognized that he moved too fast asking her to move in, it's possible he breaks up with her instead of becoming more serious.

hi i watched 2 episodes of arcane and i can't believe that VIKTOR is the Narrative Companion to the Narrative Brown Haired Scientist that Jayce is. JAYCE is the one running around doing experimentation, unable to get anyone to listen to him, and believing in relatively weird stuff. i'm. shocked but enjoying it??

I have a big google doc thing where I keep track of media and stuff (putting everything in loosely ranked categories), which is mostly just for my own reference so I know what tv shows I've already seen before, etc. and I never really look back through it, typically just a quick "okay, watched two movie in the past 8 months, need to quickly slap them somewhere in the lists. okay. done. save document. exit". But today I was actually reading through some of the old notes and there are like... MULTIPLE places where my comment is basically "It would have been good if it were about elves" or "I wish there was a fantasy show made in this same style" or "It's well made, but I just keep thinking about how I would like it more if everyone was an elf or was in old 1700s costumes" or etc like...... lol.... Most biased media ranking system on earth blatantly made by someone with an extremely hyperspecific range of narrow interests. It'd be like if a food reviewer only had 5 foods they actually liked, so they'd just go to a pizza place and be like "eh, the pizza was okay, but I just think it would be better if it was cereal instead. :/ ...2 out of 10"

I feel like I liked yakuza 5 a lot more than most people for some reason

#like a lot of people seem to not like it or think it’s mid #idk man but it was one of the games I enjoyed most and I really liked the range of characters you get to play #love me a murder mystery too #idk I think people seem to not like how disjointed the plot is at first and trying to keep up with everyone’s seperate plot and characters #and etc. but I personally really liked how it was all disjointed and the further you get into the game / the more characters you play the #more shit starts coming together and forming a full picture #like don’t get me wrong it’s not perfect and I do have qualms with some. choices. (mostly having to do with majima and #mirei) but overall it’s one of the games I’ve enjoyed the most and that’s kept me interested in the plot the most #fantastic to get a more in-depth look at haruka and to get to really know her by playing her and seeing how she interacts with people and #choices she makes and etc. I don’t think she was a fully fleshed out character prior to that #loved her with all my heart already don’t get me wrong but she just didn’t have much time on screen especially as a teenager to fully get #her personality across and some of the issues she deals with (mommy issues. abandonment issues #etc). #and her and uncle akiyama are a very nice unexpected duo!!! #the different settings were fun too. overall I think the whole thing just felt like more of a streamlined story in a way with drastically #different viewpoints depending on the character #also shinada’s a gift. bless him #daigo feels three dimensional and emotionally present in a way I didn’t see much in other games- even when he’s literally a boss in 4. tbh #the only other time I think he feels really solid as a character is in fuckin dead souls. I think it’s cause it’s SO rare to see daigo in #non-serious situations or vulnerable with people on purpose. dead souls has the first thing and y5 has a bit of both #and I could complain more about how y6 SHOULD have made daigo more present instead of sending him to fuckin jail the whole time but. I do #get that that was kind of important to the plot. I mean to have that power vacuum. don’t think all three of them should’ve been put in jail #but I digress. anyway I got off topic point is I enjoyed yakuza 5 it is very unique in my opinion #y5 #rambling #ALL THESE TAGS AND I FORGOT TO MENTION KIRYU BEING ANGSTY AND GAY AS HELL. the problem with adventure time is that i am so deadly serious about it and how good i think it is so it is difficult to have casual conversations about it without delving into my personal philosophies about the meaning of life and what we owe to each other and ourselves etc etc etc. cannot be normal

#sure its a funny silly show but its about life death the universe and everything in between #and it manages to grapple with extremely complex and emotional topics in ways that leave you feeling both meloncholy but also… ready? #to confront yourself and your place in the universe. u kno #at least. thats how i feel about it LOL #i’m not talking season one or even two but that doesn’t negate the vaue those seasons provide as set dressing and emotional tone. etc #to me adventure time is less about the characters (although it is certainly about them) #and more about painting a vast and nuanced portrain of a fantastical universe that gives life and humor to abstract ideas and feelings #it teaches you how to sit with them. and make peace and grow and change and love etc etc YOU KNOW !! #the love that went into creating it is so palpable with each and every episode #also that post going around about how having to shoehorn in a moral lesson is a major problem woth the artistic integrity of many kids shows #adventure time does not have that problem. #it proposes ideas ? but it takes characters entire seasons #years even #to learn from their mistakes. anyway #adventure time

while i try to keep an open mind about the potential that NarraChara is just a really fucking worthwhile reading rather than Toby's original intent, it does bug me a little bit when i see people assessing/refuting it with "the narrator seems to know what other characters are thinking" and it's like yeah maybe they're guessing based on context clues or just making shit up. perhaps chara the kid who talks like a fantasy villain when we push them into Evil Demon Baby Mode was a precocious reader in life and they just like telling stories. the narrator may be saying "papyrus is thinking about your date later" or w/e because you literally just went through ACTs about going on the date and it's like, a reasonable thing to assume. and maybe they're totally wrong and he's thinking about cool skateboard videos he saw yesterday or something. like we already know the narrator is unreliable in other ways. why are we suddenly expecting to trust them on this too lol

The problem with making a good character outfit is that playing as a female hero locks you out of some of the coolest good armours because you get saddled with the tiddies out and lipstick.

just sliding in here to say that i really loved reading your tags on my loki post!! i agree that it’s not really a choice between the two, but it’s about loki learning and growing from both sylvie and mobius (and the two of them learning and growing as well) but the whole point being that sylvie and mobius both represent important parts of loki’s character and he’s learning to hold both of those sides of himself at the same time.

the thing about Margaret, is that she was an interesting character from season 1. I know she may not necessarily have been intended to be that, and probably not at all in her previous iterations in film and book, but here, from the very beginning, there was a something (and I say that as someone who started learning more about her future journey around... s3... vaguely, so I genuinely didn’t know she’d be getting these kinds of stories and narrative Weight. I know at this point that she’ll continue to grow until the end, but that’s about it)

and for whatever reason -- because the show was being created with a lot of mutual respect between the people on it (for the most part), because loretta swit was just that compelling, because because -- that potential was picked up on

she grows and gets her point of view and emotions explored, and crucially has the underlying ideas behind her actions all the way back in s1 -- when she wasn’t so fleshed out yet -- respected in hindsight

and it’s still so rare to see that! especially in female characters of course, it’s like there’s a mental block against seeing their potential. there’s absolutely a version -- a far far lesser version -- where Margaret could have been eternally trapped, beating against the narrow walls of her narrative and societal confines, while the narrative occasionally touched on something just interesting enough that you could taste her motivations and complex feelings (you know, maybe that is the book and/or movie version of her, I don’t know I haven’t engaged with either), but we get to see the one where she takes a sledge-hammer to the expectations that were placed upon her by said narrative and society in which that narrative takes place

a narrative that responds to when she’s internally fighting something, to her contradictions, that lets her yell and scream and punch (literally!) and be incredibly messy and so so fun to watch. I don’t know if it seems obvious in hindsight, but I keep thinking of how many lost opportunities there have been over the years, but this one time it’s an amazing experience

#margaret houlihan #MASH #im watching MASH #im almost halfway through s6 now #i feel like a large part of it is alan alda #and generally the environment on-set #of course you want your good friend loretta swit who's a fantastic actress to have some great material to work with! #and because you're not a fucking moron and you know women have internal lives it makes sense that margaret would too! #and while you're at it -- it must be hard to be a woman in her position in the military so that's an obvious place to start the exploration! #and why WOULD a woman like her -- sharp as a tack and strong (willed and physically) and beautiful -- be with someone like frank? #well maybe those two questions have the same answer! aha! writing is happening #(me recreating the writing and creative rooms in 1972-onwards) #also look: I'm personally not a fan of *hot lips* and a lot of the *jokes* directed her way in s1+2 especially #were misogynistic on the part of the other characters -- and at that point there wasn't necessarily much thought to it #(as in the thinking was probably *it's just jokes*) #but it DOES make for very good character analysis -- margaret's of course #but also hawkeye -- considering they're slowly becoming friends (very very good friends) #why would she want to be friends with the men who objectify women left right and centre and diminish her hard work in favour of her body? #two men who have no respect for the institutions that she's worked five times as hard to succeed in? #in favour of frank burns who alright if she's thinking about it (she tries not to) is kind of an ass and a bit TOO gung-ho in the wrong way #and possibly a coward actually (and when she looks back used the hierarchies that she needed to survive as a way to bully others) #but he was THERE -- and if she didn't think too hard he was good to her and gave her validation that she couldn't get literally anywhere #and ESPECIALLY not from hawkeye and trapper (or henry who was also a womaniser and an insult to military hierarchy) #(again -- the hierarchy that she based her whole worth and self on) #I just -- margaret makes so much SENSE! #and there's a version of her that would always just be the female frank who could have been more #but she IS more!!!! #*cries in loving margaret*
