True, he remembered falling. He remembered staring at Buck as the shots kept coming. He remembered silently pleading with a universe he didn't believe in not to take Buck from him- with him. He suddenly remembers reaching across the pavement, seeing Buck crawling beneath the truck, and thinking: I love him. I'm going to die here, and I love him. Please don't take him too, I love him. "Eddie," Buck says in a shaky voice, squeezing his waist where his hands have settled. Eddie snaps out of whatever bizarre daze he was stuck in and looks up at Buck as his back hits the side of the engine. He can't stand on his own right now if he tries. Oh. I love him.

Tidbit Tuesday

“Hey,” she says, voice cracked around the edges from too many tears. “How’re you holding up?” Eddie blinks, rousing himself from where he’d been staring unseeingly at the waiting room door. He offers her a half-hearted smile. “I feel like I should be asking you that.” “He’s important to you too,” she replies and Eddie doesn’t refute her. If anything, he looks a little embarrassed – the way Buck sometimes does when she teases him after a particularly long Eddie tangent. It’s sweet. Eddie’s eyes move to the corner of the room then where Christopher is at the coffee machine with Carla. She’s making him a hot chocolate and doing an impressive job of keeping him distracted. “He asked me,” Eddie says and his voice sounds rougher than Maddie’s had. She hasn’t seen him cry; she wonders if he’s been swallowing it down instead. “He asked me if Buck was gonna be okay. And it- it’s so soon after Shannon, he can’t-“ Eddie cuts off, taking a sharp inhale that ends with him pursing his lips. She hears the part he doesn’t say. He can’t lose someone else.

Tease Tidbit Tuesday

the writing beans have returned from war, but not for any of my existing wips. Enjoy this little tease from my (second) Buddie NHL AU. This one is (hopefully) going to be short and smutty (the short part might be a lie, I'm at 2k and haven't started the smut).

Buck would like it on record that he didn’t go looking for the video of Eddie’s fight with Jonah Greenway because he didn’t even know Eddie had gotten in a fight with Jonah Greenway. Ravi sent the video into the group chat with the comment that “Fans are weirdly horny over fights” and no other context.  If Eddie had been home Buck probably wouldn’t have watched it or maybe they would have watched it together for a laugh, but Eddie was still at practice and Buck was alone in the Diaz house where he’d spent the last month recovering. He was bored, he figured watching a fan edited video of a fight would be fine.  The video started with a title card that said “Buddie is real” and a clip of the hit that had ended Buck’s season. He’d seen the hit a few times now, but he wasn’t sure why Ravi had mentioned a fight. The video cut to Eddie throwing his stick and gloves onto the ice and shoving Greenway away from Buck before dropping to his knees and carefully cupping Buck’s face in his hands.  He was hit with a sudden memory of that moment, of the way he hurt so much but he felt safe because Eddie was there. He couldn’t hear what Eddie was saying in the video, but he remembered Eddie making him feel safe. The next cut showed Eddie and Ravi, but mostly Eddie, helping Buck off the ice.
