Thinking of a kinda gen Merlin scenario where Arthur finds out Merlin likes men and at first it's kinda uncomfortable with Merlin being like "I don't look at you like that or anything" and Arthur is awkwardly trying to process this but then after a moment he's like. Well why not. You got something to complain about???? Am I, a handsome prince and fierce warrior, not desirable enough for you???? And he's genuinely outraged for not fucking reason and Merlin is like God fucking dammit of course he would be insufferable about this too. So naturally he goes "well I've seen better" and Arthur is like "do tell" (disbelievingly and exasperatedly -because obviously his servant has rubbish taste, and quite frankly Merlin is in no position to have such high standards) and Merlin has this thing where his mouth moves faster than his brain whenever Arthur needs to be put in his place so he goes, immediately and without hesitation, "Gwaine, for one" and Gwaine, who is present along with the rest of the knights when this happens, looks oddly pleased at that and is literally preening for the rest of the week (Merlin lets him have this)
I haven't thought about how this would end but probably with Gwaine and Arthur fighting for Merlin's attention (yes even if Arthur is straight and not in love with him)(Gwaine would elope with Merlin in a second)

since (iirc) ichika canonically owns a miku voicebank (and if she actually doesn't, then she now owns because i Said So) i think it'd be cute if the rest of unit leaders owned a voicebank of their respective vocaloid as well
minori having a rin voicebank and using it to reproduce audio whenever the show recording she wanted to train her choreography with got struck with copyright. maybe kohane having a meiko voicebank and akito having a len voicebank (or the other way around) so there would be one for both vivids and bad dogs, since vbs have two main vocaloids either way. tsukasa having a kaito voicebank and trying to make his own songs on piano in middle school (but in the end deciding that being a vocap is not for him). and since ichika already has miku, kanade having a luka voicebank her parents bought her after hearing her first songs. this sorta stuff

so, this is a hot take i've been sitting on for a while about ysblf and discussed privately with other people to get a clearer picture.
tw// sexual assualt
so, in regards to daniel's sexual harassment of patricia, there's a scene i never heard anyone talk about. in episode 23, he and patricia have dinner at her place and he starts making passes at her, which she strongly rejects on account that's she won't sell her body for an assistant spot. he's very insistent, and keeps caressing her and telling her it's not true, she will do it because she wants to be with him as much as he does, despite her protests. then he pushes her on bed and she says repeatedly in a pleading tone "please, no, i have a boyfriend" as he's on top of her. then we cut abruptly to mario and aura maria in the car, who are busy making out. she's sharing doubts about the implications of sleeping with her boss, but he reassures her everything will be fine, and they get back to kissing. then we cut again to daniel and patricia post-sex. she's lying in bed, still dressed and fixing up her skirt, in the same position she was when it started, and daniel is towering over her with his legs open so we can see her (an interesting directorial choice) also fully dressed, zipping his pants. she's shocked and worn out, and when he leaves in a haste, she starts sobbing. later that night, she's still crying and calls mario just to hear his voice and be comforted, to be told someone actually does love and care for her after the way daniel used her.
to me, all the evidence points to patricia being raped, especially compared to the consensual moment between mario and aura maria. i'm not sure patricia knows, but she can feel something is very wrong about what happened. and the audience does too cause that scene is very uncomfortable to watch and i'm sure it was staged that way for a reason.

This is your evening casphardt reminder that Linhardt's quote when facing Caspar as an enemy is "Do you realize, Caspar, this is the first time we've ever fought?" .
Like these guys have been friends since six years old, they have discussions all the time about which of their parents would win on a fight or how fast do you need to eat, but none of that has the weight of a fight, at least not as Linhardt sees it. (And it's confirmed because they don't have a period of not talking to each other or having big disagreements like Mercedes and Annette or Dimitri and Felix).
Idk I love how strong their bond is.

I think Tim Drake would be the forever DM when it comes to D&D. It's not that his friends force him to constantly be the dungeon master for their campaigns, but it's something he enjoys doing. He actually prefers being a dungeon master more than a player.
While he's not much of a writer, I think he'd love world building. He probably has his world's currency system figured out. He creates his own conlang for it that no one is gonna take time to learn but that's okay because he has fun doing it. He's got spreadsheets and documents filled with lore that he can look back on later. He has his whole campaign figured out from start to finish and all the twists and turns laid out
His friends derail it instantly. Kon hits a nat 20 when seducing the buff orc lady that was suppose to be the big bad. His friends take almost a full session to get out of a room because they thought a tipped over chair was important to solving the puzzle when really it was there for set dressing. Cassie accidentally kills an important plot related NPC. Tim sighs and goes back through his documents to delete what he had planned.

I've been having a lot of thoughts about Azula the past few weeks but I'll just say this for now. When I first watched the show as a kid, I don't remember feeling bad for her, and least not in so many words. I do now when I rewatch, but I'm much older than her now, and I can conceptualize how young fourteen really is. When I was kid, I don't remember feeling the level of compassion toward her that I do now, but I do remember a different feeling that I think was maybe more important for me at that age.
Throughout the show, Azula is shown to be cruel, merciless, and abusive. She's powerful, and her bending looks awesome, and she's evil. I remember being so excited for her to eventually get defeated by the good guys. I had no idea how it would happen, and sometimes it didn't even seem possible. I thought that it would happen in some fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping fight scene, and it was going to be awesome, and it was going to feel so good to see her get what she deserved.
And then when the time finally comes, the show makes it immediately clear that that's not what's happening here. The music is very minimal but sets a very somber tone right off the bat. The bending isn't the quick and agile stuff we see from Zuko and Azula in episodes like the Boiling Rock, it's slow and it's big, and it's such a perfect contrast that the tragedy of this fight is impossible to ignore. This isn't just good versus evil, it's brother versus sister, and the sloppiness from Azula makes it simultaneously more intense and more unsettling than any of the battles we've seen so far.
Katara steps in when Zuko goes down, and the pace picks up a bit. The tragedy takes a back seat for a minute, and it's really satisfying when Katara finally manages to get ahead of Azula and take her down. But then the ice melts, and this fourteen year old girl is left chained to a grate, screaming and crying and spitting fire, and it doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel like what I thought it was going to feel like.
And even if I didn't consciously realize that I felt bad for Azula when I was a kid, I at least realized that this was not a thing to be celebrated. It would have been easy to make her final stand exactly what I expected it to be, but I think this type of subversion is infinitely more valuable, especially in a kids' show, because I had to sit with uncomfortable feelings and the nuance of the situation. It made me think more critically about what I was seeing.
Yes, Azula had to be defeated before she hurt anyone else. Yes, she made a lot of bad choices and did a lot of terrible things. You don't have to feel bad for her, but this is not a happy ending.

I gotta say, I don't really understand the discourse over how Rhaenys and Visenya can't have conflicts between themselves when George creates over and over, siblings who disagree with each other, fight, and yet love each other profoundly. Take Arya and Sansa, take Stannis and Renly, and even Rhaena and Alysanne fought, and none of that was "bad writing" or something created for some weak drama just to place women against each other.
I do agree that they don't need to be constantly at odds with each other, but conflicts are natural occurrences when you have two people with very different personalities, but people can work out their issues or even don't work them at all and still love each other.
I think wanting them to be this perfect trio is just so not consistent with George's writing, given that the man loves to see the heart in conflict with itself, and there's no bigger example than Ned and Cat. No one can say that they didn't love each other, and yet they had their conflicts, so it's not really about the conflict at the end but how the characters manage that between themselves.
Also, it is important to note that this is something said by George himself
Tumblr media
I don't necessarily like this dynamic of competing for a man, but I think that could be adapted into a different dynamic (also, it could be interpreted in other ways to make this particular dynamic not so "man-centred")
I guess what I'm trying to say is that conflicts can happen in the best and most loving families, and yet people can love and protect each other besides their differences! So there's definitely ways for conflict to happen and still have characters who deeply love each other

The Soundtrack of Spy x Family
It's already a pretty well-known fact that spy movies are often accompanied with jazz, and for good reason. Complex chord structures, use of syncopation, and the the notable highlight of improvisation gives jazz an element of subdued emotional restraint while still riding on an unpredictable, quickly-paced soundtrack of pure unadulterated action.
It was said of Ian Flemming, the creator of James Bond, that jazz seemed to influence almost every aspect of Bond's character. "Like Bond, it’s passionate without falling into mere sentimentality, heartfelt but never losing its ironic or humorous touches, capable of elegance but never allowing you to forget the intensity lurking just below the surface.” Sound like another familiar spy we know?
The soundtrack takes advantage on the quote on quote "spy chord" (E,G,B,D#,F#), or the Emin(maj7) chord, which is most famously played in everything from James Bond to the Pink Panther and even the Incredibles. It creates a sense of unresolved tension, and Spy x Family spares no extent in its use. You'll hear in STRIX, WISE, and Bondman most prominently.
Tumblr media
However, Spy x Family diverges from the normal spy genre because not only is it is a comedy, but a family comedy. The unpredictability of both Yor and Anya disrupt Twilight's normal flow, and the music reflects that. In fact, one could argue that while the instrument that personifies both Twilight and Loid Forger is the piano. As Twilight, it takes a background to the brass and walking bass and drums as the whole thing jazzes out in one large moving mechanism. But when it's just Loid and his family, the piano comes to the forefront as a solo. It's interesting that "teacups" is a actually a very simple arrangment, mostly relying on block chords under a melody with lots of repeated notes. There isn't an ounce of jazz in it. It's in those simple moments when he's with his family at the end of the day, drinking out of teacups, that he drops his guard, even just a tiny bit.
There are lots of different ways to tell a story. And if the composer is a good one, they'll tell you the story beyond of what the dialouge actually says.

" Because if you did, you would've done so years ago.. "
In other words, Zuccotto is having an argument with his Ma Cheese over her being absent for most of his childhood.
Why is he arguing with her? Well..
Zuccotto grew up most of his childhood in the Duskgloom Sea with his mother, Black Pearl and his sisters, Charcoal Cheese and Golden Pearl after he was sent to live with them by his Ma, Golden Cheese, before the Golden Cheese Kingdom was destroyed completely.
In a sense, he kind of resented Golden Cheese for a while because she wasn't as present in his and his sister's lives during most of his childhood and broke a promise they made. But maybe after he learns the truth of what happened during that time, his feelings for his Ma Cheese might change a little..
Frankly I don't wanna ramble more in case I get boring so I'll just leave it with that! :>
Reblogs are appreciated!

Just saw again the claim that people are only disinterested in timber and Bernard Dowd because he's a civilian and like. I have complex feelings about Bernard and none of them are against civilian characters. Some of my favorite characters are civilians, actually. Yes, I know how that sounds, but it's true. Emjay from Spider Gwen is at the center of a fic I'm writing right now, for God's sake, but also MJ from main continuity comics (before OMD...), or og Gwen Stacy, or Lois Lane, and I've said multiple times that my favorite Deadpool character isn't actually Wade himself but his daughter, Ellie Camacho. And several of these civilian character are even canonical love interests, just like Bernard! Yeah, some of the dislike for Bernard comes from timkon shippers who haven't accepted that DC is never going to give us what we want (not that we should just pretend the subtext isn't there, just, like, bffr rn). But also. Bernard is, for the most part, written as super boring. Especially in TD:R, which is the majority of his existence while being Tim's boyfriend. He's just a non-character, there to be supportive. He started getting a tiny bit of depth in the latest issue, but may I remind you, Bernard's been boring for two years at this point. Like... I want timber to be interesting, because I'm invested in the little bit of bisexual representation we get being good, actually. But it's like gay relationships can't have any drama or depth to them. Like Petermj is one of the most iconic relationships of all time, and they didn't have smooth sailing! MJ is a character with her own needs and wants and she wasn't always the supportive girlfriend™ and that - the supportive boyfriend™ - seems to be the only thing Bernard gets written as, even in the giving-him-depth issue. I'm just saying that. Like. People being critical of timber can sometimes be overly harsh. But that doesn't mean that all criticism of Bernard Dowd is invalid, because it very much is not. And if we don't criticize the mediocre shit we're given, we're never going to get better writing.

Basic Golden Herd plot for those who have been asking:
Long ago, the sheep were led by a good shepherd who protected them from predators, but the sheep stopped following the shepherd, and eventually abandoned him to live on their own without his commands and influence.
To keep safe from predators on their own, they now live in a large isolated village, The sheep have regretted the decision to leave for generations, and now wait for the shepherd to come back.
One day, demons start invading the village. Because the sheep don't know where these are coming from, The Golden Herd goes out of the safety of the village to locate the source of the demons and stop them.
