red queen characters and their fav video games:
mare: grand theft auto 💀🙏 any gta game she can get her hands on but it started with the chinatown wars on ds
cal: missed out on a proper childhood so is treating his inner child to fnaf for the first time and idk… something something about the story being an overarching narrative about a brother trying to pick up the remnants of his family through his grief… he says he doesnt get the lore butbhe kinda does. also had a goat simulator phase for the same reasons but minus the angst
maven: i would like to say some really cool psychological game but this mf would probs love playing chess against a cpu the most 💀 silent hill takes second place though (he’s obsessed with the idea of a purgatory of one’s own making… hmm… i wonder why 🤔)
evangeline: mario cart (she eats anyone who even THINKS of playing as peach)
elane: some sort of dating sim methinks… maybe like those ikemen games (let her be y/n)
ptolemus: fortnite for the dances.
kilorn: also fortnite but he has one-sided beef with ptolemus on there who keeps trying to add him. he also has the toph skin and keeps wiping the floor with his ass (ptolemus has the miles morales skin)
cameron: the attack on titan vr game where the world’s best comedy is originated from
gisa: what remains of edith finch. cursed family narrative goes hard with these folk.
shade: hes a legend of zelda girlie.
diana: she genuinely doesn’t play any game besides minecraft because she gets forced it by other people. but i know she’d love red dead i just don’t think she could be convinced into playing it (tragic)
iris: virgo versus the zodiac would speak to her, i feel. she has a secret weird side that only indie games could tease out of her.
wren: star stable!!! secret horse girl lore.
thomas: resident evil 4 because depending what you headcanon him as hes either feening for leon or ada or both.
coriane: definition of stardew valley girlie. but considering what she went through maybe yume nikki would be a game she keeps close to her heart (someone check up on her).
elara: if the sims 4 existed in the red queen verse it could have saved a lot of lives. maybe even her own.
sara: she wipes everyone in super smash bros you best believe it.
julian: castlevania: symphony of the night… mm the grip it has on this nerd loser… do not even breathe the name alucard around him he will give you the entire dracula lore starting with le fanu’s carmilla.
dane: detroit become human. played markus’ storyline and bro suddenly was made to govern a democratic republic for the people by the people.

In your opinion, is the laugh from Leon at the end of the Ada and Leon encounter in the castle one of amusement, or more like frustration? People seem to interpret it as him being charmed by her which has lead to some butting of heads. I'm not really sure how to take it myself, but I feel like there's some lingering attachment there mixed with a lot of frustration... y'know, with her whole elusive, never explaining herself thing. Gets a little old for him, maybe.
I know you personally interpret Leon as being done with her shit, but I still wanted to know what you thought!
I think that "charmed" is a good word, but I don't think that people are using it the way that it should be used in that context. Leon isn't "charmed" by her in the sense that he just fell in love with her all over again; Leon is "charmed" by her in the sense that he found that particular interaction endearing.
I've seen people make the argument that Leon didn't actually know that Ada was alive until that very moment of reuniting in the castle, and he's just become so incredibly good at masking his emotions that it catches her off guard -- but I don't agree with that interpretation. For him to be so shocked at Krauser's introduction kind of disproves that theory, because -- remember, Krauser didn't even fake his death in this version of the story. And Leon is still so surprised to see him.
The way I interpreted their reunion was that Leon has seen unconfirmed reports of someone matching Ada's description running around doing shady shit in bioterror situations -- maybe even on missions he's personally run (RE4 was OG Leon's first federal mission but not Remake Leon's first federal mission; he's been doing this shit for a while already) -- so he's already been through the "what the... Ada???? I thought that bitch was fuckin dead!" (kudos to whoever gets that reference) song and dance in his head. But there was no hard and fast evidence that it actually was her -- until she finally tries to hold him up in the castle, and it all clicks into place as "confirmed" for him.
So, I think the smirk/pseudo-laugh following their reunion is born from a few different places:
Leon is genuinely happy to learn that she is, in fact, still alive. Being able to see her and confirm it with his own eyes was probably such a relief for him.
He's probably feeling at least a little bit smug that he was right about the aforementioned reports. So, not only was it relieving to know she's okay, it feels good to find that he was right.
She's not even trying to put up a front for him this time; he actually got to see and talk to the real Ada for perhaps the very first time ever (at least, in his mind; we as the audience know that Ada was being genuine with him at several different points in RE2, but Leon has no way of knowing that, himself). It's probably endearing for him to actually see her as her true self for a change.
The way that she exits the conversation (through the window after a tongue-in-cheek offering of sex??? LMAO) is so extra and over the top and so very Ada. It was very likely a very endearing "some things never change" moment for him.
I genuinely believe that their reunion was a feel-good moment for Leon for all four of those reasons -- and all of that can be true with it also being true that he's not willing to put up with her bullshit anymore.
The two of them don't speak again until the radio transmission where Ada tells Leon that she saw Verdugo carrying Ashley to the throne room. A lot happens between those two points (including "the fall [in love]" moment between him and Ashley, which, when juxtaposed beside the way that he fell for Ada, is striking in its contrast) and a lot of time passes in which Leon can let the enormity of his actual emotions re: seeing Ada again sink in -- and it also happens right after Ashley is taken from him, so that's why he snaps off with "I guess you're not completely heartless" in that conversation. (He's also probably still butthurt about the "leave the girl" remark, too, which only makes his reaction more volatile.)
And that kind of sets the tone for their interactions/relationship for the entire rest of the game. Leon cares about Ada (because lbr he cares about everyone), he's happy and relieved that she's alive and okay, and he's glad to see her again if only just for closure's sake -- but he's done with her shit, otherwise. He has nothing to prove to her anymore, he doesn't need validation from her anymore, whatever romantic attachments he had to her in RE2 are long-since dead, and he refuses to make the same mistakes twice.
All of these things can be true at the same time. And, in RE4make, they are.

“ I Love You Too ” - Leon Kennedy x Reader
Tumblr media
•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
ok so first off, i'm so fucking MAD bc tumblr didn't save my draft when it suddenly closed the app to update so i have to rewrite this ENTIRE THING
i'm actually so mad about it, i swear i was about to just not write this. i'm gonna rip my hair out i swear
anyway, i'm back with another story :3 this time it's more wholesome and fluffy
-------------------------------
summary: you and leon become even closer than before (gn reader btw)
It was nearly sunset. You and Leon were in his backyard, just enjoying the weather. You had begun to play fight, something that was common amongst you both.
Usually, it would be typical banter but you'd always say something that would set Leon off, and now was one of those moments.
You said something about his driving and teased him about every time he crashed a vehicle. Of course you had to make some snarky comment about his license.
Before you could bolt off, Leon grabbed you by the waist, causing you to yelp and giggle.
He swept you off your feet and held you in his arms bridal style. You instinctively wrapped your arms around his neck.
"Hey, c'mon!" You laughed, wiggling in his grasp. "You're like 80 tons of muscle, it's no fair!"
Leon chuckled. "Can't take what you dish out, huh?"
You and Leon were very close. Your connection was obvious to those who even glanced at you. You weren't dating, no, but a lot of people sure thought you were.
It was clear how much Leon genuinely cared for you. You had been his light in the darkness of the horrors he's seen in Raccoon City and the mission to Spain to save the president's daughter. It was difficult for him to let people in and the trauma only made it worse.
Of course, Ada had to do something with this as well. Her betrayal all those years ago still weighed heavy on Leon's heart. He was still confused, hurt, and angry all the same. Although he was glad to see Ada alive, he couldn't help but have a taste of bitterness for her. A bitterness that just wouldn't wash off of his tongue no matter how much the mercenary tried to make things better.
You were different. So much different than any other person he'd ever known.
Everything about you was perfect in Leon's eyes. Your laugh, your smile, your sense of humor, the way you'd look away and squeal when you were excited about something. It made him smile.
You had successfully torn down the walls Leon had built and he was more than happy about that. Of course, the initial part of getting to know you was rather irritating for him, he didn't want to talk about his feelings or let anyone see this side of him. You had been a ray of sunshine on his cold heart.
"Put me down!" You squeaked, squirming around.
Leon let out an exasperated huff. "Okay, okay!" He chuckled and then gently placed you back down on your feet. He immediately pulled you into a hug to which you happily accepted.
Your love for Leon was just as strong as his love was for you. You always had more romantic feelings for him but you never admitted it in fear of ruining the special bond you two had.
"I missed you while I was away," Leon spoke up, still holding you against his chest.
You smiled at this. "i missed you too." You said, your voice becoming quiet. "I always miss you."
Leon felt a pang in his heart when you said that. His job was dangerous and there was always the risk of losing his life. He knew how much you worried and he hated it.
He never really thought much about how dangerous being an agent is since he was so used to it at this point. Seeing you worry made him feel guilty.
"I know," he replied softly. "But you know I'll always come back to you, right?"
You nodded, burying your face into his chest.
As much as Leon reassured you that he'd always come home safe, you couldn't help but have the thought in the back of your mind.
When he was away, your nights were often sleepless and you found it difficult to get things done from how worried you got sometimes.
The thought of losing Leon was crushing and you couldn't stand it.
"Hey," Leon spoke, pulling away a little to look at you. "I promise." His expression was soft and his tone sweet and reassuring.
You couldn't hold it back. As you looked up at him and heard his words, tears swelled in your eyes and they began spilling. Leon pulled you back into his arms and you hugged him back once more. He shushed you quietly, running his fingers through your hair and murmuring soft reassurances.
The two of you had stood there in each other's arms for quite a while. By the time you two parted, the sun had finally dipped below the horizon. The moonlight shines through the branches and leaves of the tree you were under, illuminating you both.
Leon couldn't help but admire you. You looked so beautiful underneath the soft glow of the night sky. Your eyes always appeared to sparkle in the light but they looked especially like stars here. He found himself not being able to tear his eyes away from you.
You looked back up at him and into his pretty blue eyes.
He reached over and gently cupped your cheek with one hand. "I'm never leaving you, y'know." He whispered, once again reassuring you with a genuine smile spreading across his face. "You can't get rid of me that easy."
You smiled back, your heart fluttering as you leaned into his touch, placing your hand on his own.
"Oh, I know," you said, your tone turning more playful. "You really don't know when to quit, Kennedy."
Leon laughed, a genuine laugh that you and you alone had ever heard. He looked back at you, a comfortable silence suddenly falling upon you both.
You felt yourself get lost in Leon's eyes. The baby blue was so mesmerizing to you.
The way you looked at him didn't help either, it made his heart jump out of his chest.
The way you looked at one another was undeniable. The fondness and love in your eyes, like you were a golden treasure in the middle of the rubble in both of your minds.
As Leon looked at you, he had an overwhelming urge to just admit his feelings. He loved you so much and he wanted to shout it out loud, pour out his heart to you.
Instead, he simply leaned in, his lips softly pressing against your own.
Your eyes widened, not expecting the sudden gesture at all but you melted into the kiss, your eyes closing shut.
It felt like fireworks had gone off in your brain, butterflies swarmed your tummy, tickling your insides. You almost couldn't believe this was happening.
Leon held the kiss for a little while longer before he pulled away, looking into your eyes. His expression was so soft and loving.
"I love you," you finally spoke, blurting out the words as you were unable to hold them back anymore. You surprised yourself, a blush quickly creeping across your cheeks.
Leon smiled. For the first time in years, he actually felt complete, he felt so loved and safe. This feeling was almost enough to drive him to tears. Never in his life had he ever felt this way about another person before.
He pulled you close again and planted another kiss on your lips before he pulled away again, looking down at you with a grin that he just couldn't get rid of.
"I love you too."

RE HC's: Attachment Style, Love Languages
(Keep in mind these are literally all HC's and if you disagree, it's not cannon so don't get your dick in a twist. This is literally just how I see the characters. Most are bisexual because… it just feels fitting to me. Idk. If you don't see a character here that you'd like me to do, please let me know.)
Characters in this Post: Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen, Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, and Carlos Oliveira. (if you'd like a character not mentioned here done, feel free to ask <3)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rebecca Chambers-
Sexuality: Bi/Demi-sexual
Zodiac: Virgo
Love Language: Becca definitely expresses her love through acts of service. She may not be all that great at expressing herself through words, and being busy with work allows her little time to be close to you in person. She will do little things like fold your clothes if they're still in the dryer, make your bed, do those chores you aren't looking forward to, and so much more. She loves the idea of helping make your life a little more easier. When it comes to being shown love however, Rebecca loves words of affirmation. She thrives best when you give her hella love and reassurance. Not being good with words, she admires how freely you can talk about your feelings for her. It literally lights up her soul.
Attachment Style: Despite a lot of the struggles Rebecca has been through, she's pretty secure in herself and the relationships she gets in. Even though she struggles with her words, she's super effective at communicating her feelings when it comes to issues. Rebecca is also really good at self-reflection and will work on herself in all the places she falters, to ensure you two have the most healthy dynamic. She's super trusting of you, and does not hesitate to give out reassurance if you ask.
Billy Coen-
Sexuality: Bisexual
Zodiac: Taurus
Love Language: Billy expresses his love through physical touch. Whether it be through gentle caresses or playful pokes and punches, he lovesss touching you in any way. He can't seem to keep his hands off of you. You go out, he will kick you playfully under the table, and in the morning he's the one to cling to you and not want you to get out of bed. Morning sex is a given with him. He loves to make you feel good, and he feels best when he's touching you. When it comes to being shown love, Billy is a big fan of quality time. He doesn't care what it is you're doing, he wants to be close. You have to go to the grocery store to do some mundane task, nothing makes him more excited than you inviting him to go. He especially loves when you take time off of work or other things to be with him. Knowing you took time out of your day and your life to make room for him makes his day.
Attachment Style: Billy hasn't had the best of luck in the relationship department, especially with his past, and it makes him weary of who to trust. He's got an anxious attachment style, and while he craves love he's also terrified it isn't genuine. Billy can be super clingy at points, and sometimes struggles when you don't seem to have time for him. He needs constant reassurance, that you're for him and only him. He realizes this about himself, and always makes sure to tell you before you start dating. When given reassurance, he is the happiest boy, and he will never tire of you showing him just how much you love him.
Albert Wesker-
Sexuality: Pansexual (this is actually not a stretch as his VA played him as a queer man Link
Zodiac: Aries
Love Language: Albert expresses his love through giving gifts. Bro is not good with words and not a fan of being touched. But if he's sees something that reminds him of you, he will absolutely get it. He will shower you in gifts. You mention needing a new set of pens to take notes, he's already half-way to the store, buying the specific ball-point or gel pens you require. Working late, he's stopping by your workplace with food from your favorite place. Have a favorite show or little obession, he will buy anything for you that relates to said thing. When it comes to being given love, Albert loves acts of service. When you do things for him, it makes his life a lot easier. Especially if it's something he's not looking forward to. Nothing impresses him more than you doing something for him, when he didn't even have to ask for it.
Attachment Style: Albert 1,000% has disorganized attachment. One minute you think he's absolutely into you, and the next he is running for the hills. He's terrified of rejection, but also craves acceptance. Albert sometimes completely shuts down and doesn't talk to you about his concerns with the relationship. A lot of the time, even he doesn't know why he's being distant. It doesn't seem to matter how good you treat him, he always has anxiety about your relationship, but if you're super patient with him he can be the most tender and loving soul you can have. Often the relationship may be confusing, and Albert doesn't really talk about his feelings. Sometimes, he can even be a little aggressive and lash out, but he always apologizes and begs for you to stay.
Chris Redfield-
Sexuality: Bisexual/Demiromantic (takes bro a lot to be romantically into you)
Zodiac: Scorpio
Love Language: Chris expresses his love through acts of service, man struggles with words like Wesker and physical touch can be too much for him sometimes. But occupying himself with things to do that'll make you happy is how he loves showing you his love. He can get physical every once in awhile, but he kinda does that with a lot of people, so it isn't exactly how he expresses his love. Doing things for you also allows him to express his love for you in a way that makes him feel comfortable. Like your coffee a certain way? Chris is working his ass off to make sure you get it. When it comes to being shown love Chris surprisingly likes words of affirmation. He can't speak for himself, so when you talk about how you feel it makes him weak. He wants more than anything to be able to speak the way you do, and that's why he appreciates when you do it so well. Using your words sometimes can be a bit much for him, and makes him want to pull away, but in the long run he does find comfort in them.
Attachment Style: Chris has an avoidant attachment style. He feels like he has to go through everything on his own, and if he isn't strong enough to do it by himself then it makes him feel weak. He can seem extremely emotionally closed off at points, which makes it difficult to communicate effectively with him. He has a bit of a negative mentality, that relationships aren't necessary and he does best on his own. Good luck getting him to talk about his feelings, because this man is closed up tighter than a shell. Most of his relationships have been in the casual/one-night stand area. Chris is the first to walk off during an argument, and can definitely hold a grudge. Being patient with him is pretty rewarding however, as he apologizes after awhile. This is very hard for him, but when he cares about you, he will try to better himself.
Jill Valentine-
Sexuality: Bi/Greysexual
Zodiac: Libra
Love Language: When it comes to expressing her love, Jill loves spending time with you. She will take breaks from work, and when she works from home she will seek you out in the house. Even if it's sitting in silence, she wants to be by your side. She's very dedicated to her job, so she can't think of a better way to show you how much she cares than to distance herself from work. She loves physical touch, and nothing makes her feel more appreciated than when you touch her. Especially on the thighs or arms. It drives her wild. Underneath that badass exterior, she's a cuddly bunny. When walking around in public, and you throw your arm around her shoulders, she never feels more loved and secure. Even if she knows she can take care of herself, having you around makes her feel secure and comfortable.
Attachment Style: Despite being a bit obsessive with Umbrella, Jill has a bit more of a secure attachment style. The most issues you may have is maybe not getting her full attention at times, but she will quickly rectify it if you point it out. She's effective at communicating her wants and needs and really appreciates when her partner does the same thing. Like Rebecca, she is also kind of patient, but she won't tolerate certain behavior past a point. If she's making a big effort, she expects you to do the same. She's super understanding of your traumas and past however, and will do her best to help you. She also encourages you not to be codependent and overall just wants you both to grow as people.
Leon Kennedy-
Sexuality: Bisexual (bro fucks a ton after RE2)
Zodiac: Leo
Love Language: Leon expresses his love through physical touch. Bro is so touch starved, he gets his cuddles in any time he can. Practically clinging to you like a koala. He loves running his hands through your hair and being big spoon to you. He covers you in kisses to, if the skin is exposed, he's going for it. Big fan of hickeys to, and loves marking you in easy to see spots. He also loves recieving love this way. When you hold his hand in public, he still gets little butterflies. Pressing yourself a little more into him, when you guys are sleeping, is the hottest thing you can do for him. Practically melts from it. He loves rougher touches to. Like you running your nails down his back or biting his lips when you kiss.
Attachment Style: Leon has an anxious attachment style, and is terrified of getting close to people. Like most of the RE men it seems. 😭 Probably cause he's seen so much death. When he does start getting close, he struggles to let go. He can be suffocating at points, with how much he wants to be around you. He wants to take every second in, because he's so paranoid about it being your last together. While Leon doesn't communicate his feelings verbally, you can easily read when things are off and after a bit of work he may reluctantly open a little. He's very hard to crack. Leon is very efficient at asking about your feelings however, and will gladly hear all of your problems. Somehow, despite not knowing how to fix his only problems, he always seems to have solutions for yours.
Claire Redfield-
Sexuality: Lesbian (cry about it)
Zodiac: Aquarius
Love Language: Claire is surprisingly great with words, and loves to show it. She expresses how she loves you through words of affirmation. She will tell you she loves you every single day, and she means it with all her heart. Claire is the type of partner to send you loving paragraphs before bed, and makes sure you get a goodmorning text every morning. She leaves sticky notes everywhere to when she thinks about it, with little things she loves about you. When it comes to being shown love however, Claire really enjoys quality time. Expressing that you want to actually spend time with her whenever you can means the world to her. Growing up with Chris, who's been very busy since she was a kid, she's always valued the little time she gets to spend with her loved ones.
Attachment Style: Claire learned a lot from Chris, which made her have the exact opposite attachment style as him. Being practically raised by him and having a good relationship with him, she's pretty secure in her attachments. Even when things get rough, she's always understanding and holds out hope. Claire has always been good at being self-sufficient, so she doesn't need to be around you 24/7 or hear from you constantly. Doubts don't really get a hold of her in your relationship, and she's super easy to connect and be vulnerable with. She'll even talk about her own personal experiences just to make you feel more comfortable.
Ada Wong-
Sexuality: Bisexual
Zodiac: Gemini
Love Language: Ada never explicitly states what or how she's feeling, she's very much a woman of action. This is why she expresses her love through physical touch. Though she's not entirely clingy with it. If you're around, it could be as simple as her feet across your lap, while you watch tv. When it comes to physical touch for her, it's not the soft little gently caresses you're used to. She likes to be rough, and she will not hesitate to pounce on you. When it comes to being shown love, Ada enjoys receiving gifts. Not being given things too frequently, it means the world to her when her partners comes to her with something they bought specifically because it reminded them of her. Hell, even if it's not something she quite understands or likes, she will try to play it cool while freaking out on the inside. Despite Ada's distant exterior, she's definitely an absolute softie.
Attachment Style: Girl has got disorganized attachment style, one hundo percent. She's hot and cold with anyone she's with, and you always second guess just how she feels about you. You convince yourself that it's part of the fun, and the second you start to distance yourself as well, she's showing right back up. Ada feels undeserving of a healthy relationship, so when she gets a good thing her first instinct is to flee. Being that she isn't entirely true to herself and is always putting up a mask, it's hard for her to make genuine connections. Ada is sick of the mask however, and is so desperately ready to let it drop and be loved. Once you have her, even if it feels like you don't, you're stuck with her. She will harass you for the rest of your life, and play it off as anything but an interest in you.
Carlos Oliveira-
Sexuality: Bisexual (he came out to me in character ai, so practically cannon)
Zodiac: Saggittarius
Love Language: Carlos loves spending time with his partner. When it comes to his work, he doesn't get a lot of free time, so the best way he expresses his love by using what little he does have with you. Hell, he'd take time off just to be with you. Despite being a massive flirt, when things get serious he isn't the best at expressing himself in a way that isn't lighthearted or teasing. So instead he shows it, by dropping everything just to be around you, if you so please. During his breaks, he stops by your workplace whether it be to give you a little kiss or something more. He checks up on you with facetime calls frequently, when he's away and can't stand when work pulls him away from you. When it comes to being shown love however, Carlos very much likes things to be physical. Anyone can say words, he knows this more than anyone being the huge flirty whore (affectionately) he is, but to actually act on these things sends his heart soaring. And not just sex, though Carlos is very fond of that aspect to, he's more into the careful and intimate touches. Being hugged from behind, soft kisses along his neck, you playing with his hair, he practically folds over it.
Attachment Style: Weirdly enough, Carlos is pretty secure in his attachments, though I think he's cautious about entering a committed relationship with someone. He doesn't just feel that kind of love with anyone, and when things do go beyond flirting and hook ups, you know you've got something special with him. Carlos might not be the best with words, but he's an amazing listener and will gladly listen to whatever possible issues that may arise between you two. Even if he struggles with how to put things into words, he tries his best to open up with you as well. Carlos's work has always kept him pretty occupied, so he's never really felt too wound up about being away from his partner or having to put some healthy distance between you to. If you can work with his pretty hectic schedule, he will gladly work with you. Carlos is also a super gentle lover when no one is looking. All his rough talk and flirts are definitely for show, and the second you start getting a little bit serious with him, he gets flustered.

Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under Cut
Mia Winters
she's Ethan's wife and Rose's mother, and I tend to see her villainized in fanfiction (especially chris/ethan and ESPECIALLY karl/ethan) because shes a genuinely traumatized and complicated character, but people turn her into the shitty, abusive wife or the dead wife trope for the sake of her technically getting in the way of their ship. The best I've seen her written while still placing her out of the story was her being casually divorced but like, co parenting.
people are so mean to her just so they can push Wintersberg (Ethan Winters x Karl Heisenberg). she's not the best all the time but the evil forces r so bad to her. so i don't think it's her fault. Mia Winters haters DNI!!!!!!!!
Mia Winters is a secret agent, researcher and BOW handler who is married to Just Some Guy. When she accidentally lures her white bread husband to a spooky den of mold monsters, she sacrifices herself to save him from the mess she made (god forbid women do anything). Chronic victim of getting fridged or turned into a third wheel so one or more of a handful of men can play house with her husband and daughter.
Ada Wong
A mysterious and capable agent of a shadowy bioterrorism organization, she has a romance with government agent Leon S Kennedy spanning multiple games and movies. No one knows her true loyalties, but Leon trusts her. But, who cares! Leon and Chris argued once and that means they must be in love. Ada has also been convicted of fandom high crimes of lying to the fandom's babygirl and doing morally grey things while not being a man.
lots of explicit romantic chemistry with leon kennedy but large parts of the fandom treat her like a heartless monster who only hurts him and uses him for her goals so that they can pair him with a guy (its hard to be a girlboss)
She has a will-they-won't-they relationship with Leon in Resident Evil 2, 4, and 6. But since m/m ships like Chris/Leon and Luis/Leon are really popular, she's usually written out of fan content completely or, in rare cases, she's seen as a "mean lesbian" or antagonist to Leon's potential yaoi moment. I love her so much she doesn't deserve it :(

Hi, just wanted to ask a honest question because I've seen you post about it a few times and I genuinely don't understand where you're coming from when you say this. How is remake Leon a misogynist?
Most recently I saw you point out him calling Ada heartless, but I don't see how that's him being sexist. He says that in response to her telling him information on where to find Ashley, having previously told him to leave her behind (to presumably die or worse), and I don't think its misogynistic for him to make a jab at her for that. Especially because Leon's big motivation is saving people, of course he wouldn't be a huge fan of anyone telling him to intentionally leave someone to die if he's able to save them. (This is also not to say Ada's a bad person for suggesting that, I love Ada and her character but I also understand why Leon would be upset by such a thing)
If there's anything else in the remakes that I've missed you point out I'm curious to what else makes him misogynistic because I just don't see it.
Also like a sidenote I guess almost all of Leon's misogynistic lines are from original re4 but Luis also has lines like this, so I don't understand why he gets to be distinguished between versions and Leon doesn't when you talk about their characters.
"honest question" and yet, you seem to have already formulated an idea of my answer (and an opinion of me) based off of one post where I casually mentioned it, and you decided to look no further before getting defensive about it. Are you even asking? Do you even care to learn? Or will you just ignore everything I say? And asking anonymously is very funny to me. Literally who are you.
I talked about it here, kinda joked about it here, and I very thoroughly detailed it here, as well as reiterated in the comments. I'm so tired of repeating myself. It's 1am now bc I took the time to find these posts for you lol. Maybe read them before you try attacking a straw man.
But to the Luis point? I absolutely do separate og RE4 Leon and remake Leon… Like literally my entire POINT is that no, remake Leon is still sexist, just differently, and here is why… I really don't understand how you came to this conclusion lmao.
The main idea is, Capcom thinks they've written out Leon's misogyny; but because Capcom itself is a very bigoted company, they perpetrate misogyny in everything they make and they don't even realise it! They genuinely think the way they wrote remake Leon absolves him from the misogyny when it doesn't, it just re-contextualises it in a way that Capcom deems palatable. They still see Ada as an extension of Leon! They still see Ada's worth revolving solely around how Leon feels in response to her actions. It's ridiculous. And the way Leon is written to treat her, the lines he's given towards her, reflect this attitude, and becomes misogynistic when he treats a male character who has done worse than Ada right in front of Leon with respect and empathy.

why the Darkside Chronicles RE2 retelling feels like comp het Leon propaganda to me
disclaimer: not trying to start any sort of discourse here and imply this is the correct take. This is just my own personal headcanon, heavily influenced by my own life experiences, you believe whatever you want about Leon's sexuality.
also it's been a hot minute since I've played Darkside Chronicles and there's no convenient script of the whole game I could use to brush up on so it isn't as fresh in my mind as I'd like, but I'm just cranking this out now anyway
A key aspect of comp het crushes is them seeming unattainable. An actual real boy (for this opening part I'm drawing on my experiences as a lesbian, not getting to Leon yet) at school? Not a good comp het crush, because there's a real chance of them liking you back, and that's Scary. A celebrity? Almost perfect. Extremely unlikely to ever actually meet him, so they're a safe crush you can talk about and use as evidence you do like the gender you're supposed to, while feeling safe because you won't actually have to interact with him romantically.
A fictional character? Even better than a celebrity! Perfect! See, Heather, you do like boys, look at all these fictional men you're crushing on! You daydream about kissing them and going on dates with them, you're totally attracted to men! Just keep liking the fictional boys and not the ones at school, so you don't have to actually act on attraction, because that's Scary for Reasons.
Now moving on to Leon:
One of the main reasons I love Darkside Chronicles and consider it my favorite RE2 is that Leon and Claire don't split up, instead being together for the vast majority of the plot. And the way Leon still shows no romantic interest in Claire, instead wanting to chase after Ada, feels incredibly comp het to me. Of course you can just see it as Leon simply not being attracted to Claire but genuinely attracted to Ada for whatever reason, but again, to me it really screams comp het.
Claire is not a suitable comp het crush. Leon is spending large amounts of time with her. Nothing about her is sketchy, she seems like a good person. She seems like she might be attracted to Leon too, so HIT THE FUCKING BRAKES. Leon can't convince himself to have a crush on Claire, because it isn't safe. Claire might like him back, and it's a lot harder to convince yourself you're attracted to someone when things get real and you're actually dating the person. You get physical with them, talk about mushy stuff like feelings, and you feel nothing at best or feel uncomfortable at worst. Safe unattainable comp het crushes are useful because you can tell yourself that you would enjoy all those things with the opposite sex, but only the right person. You convince yourself someone unattainable is the right person, so that you never have to confront the reality that there is no right opposite sex person.
Ada is suspicious and shows zero interest in Leon. He's even got Claire pointing out that she's sketchy and they shouldn't go after her, but Leon insists because she's a good comp het candidate. Leon can convince himself that he's in love with Ada, love at first sight, and that's why he's not interested in Claire, the person he's actually bonding with. He's just falling too hard for Ada. And it's safe to like Ada. She's not interested. She's suspicious and running off trying to do her own thing. Leon can try to chase her down to prove to himself he really likes her, and he won't have that delusion shattered because she won't reciprocate and make him face the hard reality that he feels uncomfortable doing romantic things with the person he's supposedly in love with. And Ada is never going to want to settle down and have kids with him, so he can convince himself he wants that so he can feel normal, without feeling uncomfortable because it'll never actually happen.
Then the scene where Ada kisses Leon while faking her death. Despite the fact there's real physical contact, it's really an optimal comp het scenario. She's dramatically "dying" in his arms, says something about barely knowing him but knowing he'd say that, and then kisses him before "dying." If he felt uncomfortable with the kiss, it's easily explained away. It was such a traumatic situation, of course he's not going to enjoy kissing. If only Ada had lived so they could have escaped together and had a happier moment for their first kiss, then Leon definitely would have enjoyed it.
And, similarly to this shitpost I made, he gets to keep using her for comp het purposes. Why isn't he attracted to any other women, like he should be? Obviously, it's Ada. She was the love of his life. His soul mate. But she died, and he just can't ever move on, that's why he has no desire to be with anyone else. Boom, he's definitely attracted to women, completely straight.
TL;DR Leon and Claire are together for the vast majority of RE2 and bond more, and Claire also points out the red flags Ada is waving. Objectively it makes sense for him and Claire to have some type of romance going on, but he's still fixated on the person with zero interest he's interacted with significantly less. Because he isn't attracted to women. Pretending to be attracted to Claire would be much harder than pretending he's attracted to Ada.

Chris Redfield x fem!reader
Word Count: 1.4k
Warnings: a marriage proposal lmao, talks of spiders, slightly suggestive dialogue
Author’s Note: happy one year to one of if not my favorite game <3 I just played a 2 ½ hour playthrough to cry about it <3 remember a year ago when i kinda hated chris and now hes one of my favorite characters ever? growth. cant believe that was a time in my life btw
Summary: kinda plotless, you and Chris are working at getting Miranda and having some conversations about your lives
I don’t own these characters. They belong to author/director/creator
(not my gif)
Tumblr media
At this point you felt like you had seen everything. You had seen things in that damn mansion years ago and ever since you had never stopped seeing things that your eyes were never meant to behold. Days like today you were just thankful that you always had Chris right beside you. You knew plenty of people who went at this alone; Leon Kennedy when Ada Wong wasn’t around, Jill Valentine when she was working. But you and Chris had always been just that.
You and Chris.
It was hard for even you to imagine one without the other. You hadn’t started dating until years into your partnership with STARS but had been essentially inseparable ever since. His presence was always a comfort to you.
Not to mention how much he liked having you around. He would get worried sometimes but he genuinely isn’t sure what he would do without you at this point. He had been with so many teams and groups and partners but he always came back to you at the end of it.
You were in a cave in Romania. It was just you and Chris which was odd. Usually you had others of the squad around, taking tests, talking over plans. But for once it was just the two of you and a shit ton of weapons.
You were stocking up. You could feel a fight brewing and you weren’t going to miss it. You were of the mind that you should tell Ethan Winters everything but somehow Chris got to be your superior in that regard. He was sitting on a box of things, hunched over, staring at the computer screen. The light was illuminating his face. You stared at his features shamelessly and for no particular reason.
“You’re starring,” he muttered. He closed the laptop, sitting up straight.
“Got a problem with that Redfield?”
“Never.” He stood up. “That’s my gun.” You looked down at the Dragoon in your hand and shook your head, lips pursed.
“I have never seen you use this gun.”
“I’ve been using that gun for years.”
“I didn’t know it had your name on it.” You laughed gently, handing it over to him. It was true. You hadn’t seen him without the damn thing since the time he got it, after the Spencer mansion.
“You better watch out with what you touch, I could take your gun just as easily,” he said, giving you a raised eyebrow. The ease of conversation with Chris has always been your saving grace in these large tasks. He made you feel like this was any other day.
“Is that a threat?” you teased.
“Do you want it to be?” he asked, voice gruff. You leaned against the wall, shaking your head slowly.
“Christopher. Aren’t we meant to be saving the world here?”
“I’ve always got time for you sweetheart,” he said cheekily. You scoffed to hide the flush on your face. You really did love him. It was hard not to.
“Captain?” Lobo said into the walkie that Chris had sitting beside the computer. “Lieutenant.”
“Hit me,” Chris said.
“We’ve got eyes on a large factory building. Looks like it’s producing bioweapons.”
“They got factories for that now?” you asked, annoyed. You grabbed your gun that was leaning on the side of the wall.
“Send the exact location. We’ll make our way over.” “Just the two of you?” Tundra teased lightly. “You gonna be able to keep your hands to yourself?” You scoffed.
“I make no promises,” you said to the speaker. You nodded to start heading out. The coordinates they had sent were across a small river. It was likely you and Chris would have to do a lot of maneuvering to get over there. That wasn’t exactly a surprise. “We didn’t even get to go into the castle,” you pouted.
“Were you trying to go to the castle?” he asked, following you. You shrugged.
“It looked cool.”
“You heard them. There was a tall blood sucking bioweapon in there.” “We’ve dealt with so much worse. You remember the huge spider?”
“I do. I mostly remember it because you remind me of it very often.” You shivered at the memory. It had been years ago yet it still left you feeling uneasy.
“I should have died there. It would have spared me the memory of the event.”
“I would have hunted down every spider in revenge. You wouldn’t want that for me,” Chris settled. You shrugged.
“I think you were bound to hunt down every spider eventually. I make you do it at the house,” you admitted.
“You can kill bioweapons like nobody's business but house spiders…”
“I don’t like them,” you said finally, shaking your head. You exited the cave together and came to a small pathway that led you down the boat you had taken. “Do you think we can take the boat to the coordinates?”
“I doubt we’re that lucky.” “Always the hard way. Why do I even ask?”
You got in the boat across from him. He started to turn it on, steering down the peaceful running water. You stared at him again, studying his features. When had he gotten so weathered? When had your Chris grown up? His shoulders broadened, the bags under his eyes became permanent.
It slightly shocked you how little of the STARS Chris was written on his face.
“You’re starring again,” he said.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered. “You look tired.” He scoffed.
“So do you.”
“I just mean like, as a person. You look exhausted. When was the last time we slept in? Or stayed at home for an extended period of time?”
“You know we can’t talk about things like that right now. Not with Miranda out there.”
“Are we gonna do this until we die?” you asked, suddenly shocked with the seriousness in your voice. He looked into your eyes, one arm on his knee.
“I don’t know,” he said honestly.
“I mean, I don’t want like a peaceful life, you know. Never been my style. But we, realistically, should have gotten married years ago.” “Are you proposing?” he asked, though his voice was slightly strained.
“No.” You closed your eyes tightly. “Not that I don’t wanna marry you. I’ve always wanted to marry you. I just mean…we’ve been doing this forever. It’s never ending. When will it be someone else's turn?” He stared into your eyes, watching you.
“I’ve never wanted something else for myself,” he admitted. He was quiet for a moment. “But I’ve always wanted more for you.”
“Well you know I won’t go anywhere without you.” You crossed your arms. He chuckled lowly.
“That I know.”
“I love you, you know,” you said, a little quieter. “I’ve never stopped loving you.”
“I love you too. I always have, I always will,” he promised. “When we survive this, let’s get hitched.” Your eyes went wide.
“What?”
“If that’s what you want, I’m not against it. We probably don’t have time for a whole thing but we could do something with Claire and your family,” he offered.
“Is that what you want? I don’t wanna peer pressure into a marriage Chris.”
“You act like we aren’t already married,” he said. He leaned forward, stopping the boat by the dock. He got out of the boat and helped you out, grabbing your hands. “Marry me.”
“That doesn’t sound like a question.” He cleared his throat.
“Will you marry me?” You could have cried. You sniffed and nodded quickly.
“I will Chris Redfield. I will marry you.” He smiled brightly, a brighter smile than you had seen from him for a while. You kissed him gently, knowing it couldn’t last long, knowing you had things that you had to do.
“Let’s go kick some ass.”
“Lets.”

Why do you think RE2R's narrative wasn't restructured like that? Wasn't it the same team working on both games?
Yes, it was the same team, but historical context is important.
RE2make was this team's first remake, so no one knew how these games were going to be received. And Capcom was terrified. They had repeatedly said over the years that they would never remake RE2. They even legit told fans to stop asking for it, at one point.
But the announcement of RE2make was Capcom's "in case of emergency, break glass."
RE2make was announced in 2015 as a response to the RE6 post-mortem. It was actually announced before RE7 was, even, in a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding and signal to fans "we're listening, we're listening, oh god please stop saying horrible things about us on the internet the investors are so pissed."
So they had to be very, very careful with how they approached this remake. If they fucked this up, it would've been catastrophic. I'm sure Hirabayashi's balls were in his throat for the entire stretch of time between the Leon and Claire face reveal to the release of the game -- because that face reveal did not go over well.
And if that wasn't bad enough, after that went over poorly, there was a dramatic outcry and backlash when it was announced that the game would have no zapping system (which is why and how we ended up with a poorly-realized, slapped-together 1st/2nd scenario situation; originally, it was meant to be just one Leon campaign and one Claire campaign). Pre-release of this game was probably harrowing as fuck for everyone involved in the project.
RE2make was not the game for experimenting. You could tell they wanted to, based on the complete overhaul to the playable Ada and Sherry sections, but a thematic shift in genre was out of the question.
What they actually did with RE2make -- which was actually really smart -- was not remake the game as it existed. Instead, they remade the game as people remembered it.
Leon was not a gentle, sweet boy who just got screwed over in RE2 OG. He was an arrogant dick who insisted he was always right.
Ada was not a cold, manipulative bitch in OG. She genuinely fell in love with Leon.
Claire was not a hotheaded firecracker in OG. She was soft-hearted and nurturing, if a bit sassy.
But their remake counterparts followed people's memories and the fandom consciousness rather than the OG scripts.
So I mean...
RE2make was in a precarious situation. And if it had gone over poorly, RE4make would've looked much different.

Been thinking. I do love Ada and Leon’s cat-and-mouse dynamic (very Batman vs Catwoman, very fun) and the small ways she protects and looks out for him. But what I really love is the idea of Leon making Ada lose her composure with just the most simple and straightforward acts of care. Like, flirtatious banter? That’s her forte, she’s not going to be the first to back out. Knife fight ending with the edge of the blade on her throat? Ooh, kinky~ It’s tough to fluster her with seduction or violence. She’s a spy — this is her home territory. Might even be the closest thing she can call a home.
The scenario I can’t get out of my head is Ada and Leon — maybe sometime after RE 4 and sometime before…Damnation? — meeting each other while she’s back from some secret solo mission — innocent people died. It wasn’t her job to save them, but she still did what she could without compromising her mission and it wasn’t enough, it usually isn’t, but she’s never quite gotten used to the disappointment — and she’s stressed and exhausted so she wouldn’t turn down a distraction, asking with a dangerous and seductive smirk, “You have me for the night, Leon. What do you want from me?” fully expecting them to finally arrive at the inevitable end of this whole song and dance, and do something about this sexual tension that’s been building between them.
But then Leon looks at her with this unreadable expression — and that’s not right, Leon is never hard to read, not for her — and then he asks if he can just…hold her. And she’s stunned, only semi-aware of her own awkward nod. His embrace is warm and comforting and certain and she…she’s a mess in comparison, she doesn’t know what to do with her hands, it takes a few seconds for her to return the hug as she realizes, oh.
Oh, he really meant just hugging.
Huh.
He’s not kissing her or initiating anything either of them (most probably Ada) would sneak away from in the morning, which is. This really wasn’t what she expected to happen from their serendipitous meeting. But also, no one’s really simply hugged her before, and something about Leon’s arms encircling her like he’s trying to shield her from the world — better that than anymore bullets, she supposes — and voice whispering quiet affirmations into her hair like he knows feels more intimate than if they just fucked and she is weak. It’s a terrible idea, but she lets herself just be held and she feels like she’s supposed to do something more than clenching her fists on his back, but he doesn’t seem to expect anything from her in the moment. It’s been years and this former rookie never stops surprising her.
When they pull away, Ada is awkward and that’s a new one, Leon’s never seen her lose her cool — not even in the rare situations that she has lost control, like when her life is literally in danger. “No, you’re fine. It’s…me.” That’s the only explanation she offers. She hurriedly makes some excuse of having another job in the morning and leaves. And she’ll probably be embarrassed and frustrated with herself about it later, because she basically just…ran away. Because of a hug. How mortifying.
I don’t really know where to continue with that scenario, I just find the idea of Ada getting flustered by genuine care and affection funny. Maybe a few weeks — months? — pass before Leon sees or hears from Ada again after The Hug™️. That’s okay, because if knowing Ada has taught him anything, it’s to have patience.

What do you think would be a genuinely interesting conflict for Leon, Ada and their children?
HELL YEH
parenting styles and how they think they should parent. i think they would work together a lot since they had poor childhoods and probably have a lot of trauma just regarding like child rearing.
leon worrying that he's gonna fuck up, and ada also worrying that she's also going to fuck up
ada worrying that she's not nurturing enough to have children-
both of them would use their love languages of acts of services more than anything imo
leon would get better at words of affirmation when they get older
ada would just like being around them
they are both lenient and strict on certain things and they clash about it. ada being more lenient about sneaking out- "just get back home before your father finds out,"
leon more strict about just being a good person- don't hit back
but ada thinking it's more important to stand up for yourself
about their lifestyles so that they can still have a really normal life. they would want to keep their kids out of it as long as possible
arguing about homeschooling or doing normal public school
ada would teach them self defence more than leon as he would coddle them for a bit before realizing that they need to learn too.
one of them using knives because ada taught her, and the other one being like, "mom taught you that?" "actually, she said dad did." "huh, didn't realize dad could be so aggressive." "he's with mom." "okay fair, point."
i feel like they would mostly fight about small stuff but they rarely escalate unless it has something to do with keeping their kids safe- that's the most important things for them- in the end, that's the only thing they really care about
they would only legit fight if they genuinely thought what was being asked was going to hurt their kids

i just watched welcome to raccoon city for the first time and…… im not even sure what that was supposed to be????? like genuinely, was it a parody? im so confused.
the characters were all legitimately useless? i was not getting future professional bioterror soldier vibes from any of them they were all pretty incompetent lmao
especially leon wtf i know he has a reputation for being the dumb one but omg the whole bullying aspect fell really flat i mean i get it they’re all assholes but what a strange choice for the protagonists???
the decision to have the first 2 games play out concurrently was actually very interesting and surprisingly well pulled off i’ll give them that. i love seeing raccoon city go up in flames.
but a casual viewer would watch and wonder wtf was happening, it was so disjointed??? the whole g virus thing lasted fifteen minutes????
the love triangle (i am cringing writing that)???? who thought that was a good idea, who wanted that??? what place does a love triangle have during a zombie apocalypse i mean seriously (see point 1). also not even a successful love triangle because:
i didn’t get the impression these people even liked each other 🤨 especially chris and claire, i know it was for tension but i kinda think zombies bring enough tension without unnecessary interpersonal conflicts.
if we’re not sold on the main four’s relationships with each other within the first half hour it’s probably never going to happen
wesker. wesker. who even was that guy in the movie??? he was not generic standoffish cold superior officer turned villain at all 😐
chris and sherry know each other? that was random
rip ada wong you might have saved this movie
the mansion was perfect tho i got real chills
what was the plan for the longevity? like, did they foresee this movie doing well, or was it never meant to be that serious? because someone financed this movie……
AND someone paid close attention to the details, because there were so many little easter eggs that casual viewers would never catch, which makes me think they wanted this to be a faithful adaptation
but again, the characters, who were those guys? jill valentine, never heard of her 🙃
i liked the special effects and the gore et al, as a horror movie it was fine, there were some great tense moments, but the true horror of resident evil is not supposed to be the zombies or the monsters at all??? that’s like the whole point??? it was touched on with the whole “dying town” thing, but that was so clumsy omg.
one day we will get a half decent live action adaptation, but it will probably not come in the form of a movie financed by a multinational corporation with vested interests in cheap gory horror, please sony stop trying for the love of god

Yeah the idea of Leon being "in love" with like. His idea of who Ada is based on a couple very specific encounters wherein basically all of Ada's interactions with him are highly controlled and strategic and often catered to whatever she believes will most effectively get what she wants out of him is weird and definitely makes him seem like a moron at best and some kind of creep at worst. But he does definitely have residual attachment towards her largely as a consequence of that one night in Raccoon City and I think the most flattering way to interpret it would be that he is fully conscious and aware of the fact that absolutely nothing that Ada has ever shown him of herself is the real Ada but he can't kick the part of him that really really wants to see even a glimpse of what is under that mask.
Vaguely romantically intentioned or otherwise I think Leon just desperately wants to feel like the mutual surface level familiarity or recognition they develop over a series of semi-coincidental high-stress encounters is even remotely balanced bc even with his sarcastic and dry defensive exterior she can still practically read his mind at a glance while he never gets to see so much as a crack in her persona and doesn't even know her real name 😭
And like I don't think he actually EXPECTS to get what he wants especially by the end of re4 reunion but I think there is this like. One sided tension and maybe even grief on his part over the fact that he's probably never going to get to know who she ACTUALLY is even though she was so integral to the most formative event of his entire life mixed with the weird residual emotions he feels for spending half a decade thinking he practically killed her and all of this is in conflict with his also very real resentfulness of the way she has treated him and lied to him and distrust of her profoundly unclear motivations etc. When people say Leon is "obsessed" with Ada I don't think that's really accurate but I DO think he can't let himself think about her too often or he'll drive himself crazy wondering who the hell she is.
And of course another major reason he wants so badly to know something genuine about her is because he is so desperate for her to give him a solid reason to trust her. Which Ada naturally does not give a shit about because whether or not he trusts her fundamentally and no matter how much he might bark about it he's still gonna act like her dog when she's around cause he's still repaying his "debt" 😭 (And it's also interesting I guess to see how that changes over time i.e. by the time of like, re6, which is essentially "Ada gets framed" the game, Leon really doesn't really have any reservations about defending her and he's pretty firm in his resolution to do so. Which again you can interpret as him being a moron with a residual crush on her exterior, or you can interpret as him no longer really giving a shit about Quote Unquote Moral Concerns and playing by personal compulsive raccoon city loyalty rules 😭)
Also, in a similar vein to that, with his own presumably quite lonely and isolated and inherently dehumanizing life as a secret agent guy, he probably views Ada as the only person "in his life" who might be able to relate to him without being (in a sympathetic interpretation of Leon's perspective of his job) tainted by the same institution that has quite literally stolen his life from him. So again, it all ties back to him knowing that he doesn't know her, but wishing that he did. (I think I recall @theonlyadawong making a post interpreting that "night" they left off on referenced in damnation [which is clearly intended to be sexual😭] actually just being one long conversation wherein Leon gets to ask some of the many, many questions he's always had about her and Ada decides how much if it all she's willing to answer them and maybe asks a few in turn, and I'm just obsessed with the idea of that. Instantly incorporated into the worldview.)
All of this is to say I enjoy Aeon from a 99% one sided vaguely-slightly but not inherently romantic longing perspective but if they ever did become something explicitly romantic it would only possibly make sense to me if it was when Ada's whole...everything straight up stops working on Leon. It would have to be at a point where Leon has finally truly put her (and therefore Raccoon City by association) behind him, when he really stops reacting exactly as she expects him to, when he's actually capable of surprising her, and when he can meet her unexpected appearances with genuine indifference (all of which personally I don't think even could happen until he truly gets to make decisions about his own life again😭.) He's still Leon, he'd still help her if she was in trouble, but he's not gonna linger on it. I think only then could Leon possibly genuinely pique her interest as someone on equal standing and therefore open the door to her being even slightly inclined to share a hint of vulnerability with him and maybe actually eventually consider him a friend etc. I think knowing that he truly isn't looking at "Ada" when he looks at her would be absolutely necessary from her perspective. And this is why they kind of rule in re4make because it's absolutely the closest Leon has ever been to rejecting the dynamic that their (very meager and limited and mostly Leon-imagined) relationship was built on.

Your post felt like those really popular 2020 K-pop videos on YouTube that were like “my unpopular K-pop opinions part 1” 💀 anyways SAY IT ALREADY
BAHAHA THATS ACTUALLY SO TRUE STOP I REMEMBER THOSE anyway unpopular opinion time!!! 😁😁
okay but like y’all can’t hate me….i don’t want miles and gwen to end up together but i do at the same time and you gonna know what i mean
JUST STICK WITH ME PLEASE im not tryna sound like those delulu fans ada and leon type shi… where people don’t want someone to be together for themselves like NO not like that
it’s just like for a while i feel like every time a piece of media comes out even if it’s not popular there’s always a love interest and i feel like not every story has to be a love story or involve one. and what REALLY got me thinking this was how originally in itsv, gwen and miles were supposed to kiss before they went into the portal and i was like why? like i can see their chemistry in the first film but the story can go the same way even with them as friends and when i see that in movies I’m like “did they really have to be love interests?”
MORE SO it’s just like every time a girl and a guy are friends in a movie or show it just feels like they always put a romance between them and it’s like yes, it makes good writing. are gwen and miles cute together? yes the dynamic between them is so good. but did it NEED to happen? like i just wanna see a film where a male and a female can be strong companions without a hinted at romance.
and just ignoring how impractical them being in a relationship across dimensions would be and how my the mcu logic if they were to be in a dimension for too long it would be like nwh all over again…. it just would’ve been nice if they were friends that built off one another but because they been edging this romance for 4 years or sum now i would be HEATEDDDDD if miles and gwen didn’t get together. and i have a strong feeling that they are gonna kiss in btsv or at least gonna kiss each other goodbye if miles finally leaves the spiderverse alone but it’s like UGH
i feel like nobody is gonna agree but im just so tired of people behind these big movies always making the male friend and the female friend have romantic feelings like i feel like it feeds the stigma that boys can’t be friends with girls or it’s always gonna lead to something more. tbh it just feels so hard to find a genuine friendship in shows or any type of of media that don’t show any hints of romance like yes it’s very realistic for miles to have a crush on gwen and her back BUT SHOULD THEY BE ENDGAME?? LIKE IM NOT SO SURE
i saw this btsv theory i loved about how like they think beyond the spiderverse is linked to the reveal that there are other verses beyond the spiderverse (obvi miguel and them ain’t know that) that aren’t link to every spiderman variant and all that and how they think the movie is gonna end with all of them accepting that they can’t keep messing with the multiverse and miles is gonna learn to let go and just say goodbye to all of them and how that’s gonna be his sacrifice having to choose his universe over all the others he been yearning to see esp gwen and peter idk i ain’t gonna explain it all so iykyk imma have to find the video
i fekt crazy writing this idk if anyone feels the same but i feel like the romance was unnecessary AND HOW COME EVERY TIME A BLACK PERSON IS A LEAD IN SOMETHING MAINSTREAM THE LOVE INTEREST IS MOST OF THE TIMES A WHITE WOMAN that’s a rant for another time bro

If you don't mind, could you elaborate on how Ada is inconsistent?
It's less about how she's inconsistent, and more about how various writers treat her role in the overall narrative of the series. For a non existent attempt at brevity, I will not be talking about how she's handled in the remakes or any of the alternate raccoon city focused games. 1998 RE2 only!
So in the original RE2, Ada is a woman who's looking for her boyfriend who is a researcher at Umbrella. She was actually dating the man to get information on/a sample of the G-Virus, and whether or not her concern was sincere for this man is debatable as she plays it up. It's a useful truth that functions as a genuine cover story. After finding out the dude's dead, she seduces Leon so he'll follow her around like a lost puppy. (He's super whiny puppy but that was entertaining to watch). Plus when she doesn't shoot to kill to get the G-Virus sample from Leon, it turns out her affection for him is real. Whether this is her working from the rebound after figuring out her current boyfriend is dead is also debatable. I can only speculate that she might have been. Ada isn't heartless. Fake dating someone for months meant there had to be some chemistry as she could've picked literally any umbrella scientist to date to get to the same result. When we look at the epilogue scene from RE3, we see she is changed by her experience.
Tumblr media
She's not the same woman anymore. Or at least she doesn't think she is. She wasn't so much a femme fatale in the first RE2 as much as she was a mercenary/spy playing her cards right until the smoke cleared.
And then we get Resident Evil 4.
In RE4, they hammer that femme fatale persona in HARD. She's sexy. She's teasing. She's always in the right place at the right time. She doesn't get hurt and comes out on top. Ashley's existence delays the damsel role she would be tossed in so Leon can save her, but doesn't prevent it. The time she spent between 1998 and 2004 was her building this persona to put emotional walls and distance up so she can better do her job. Hell, due to the great reception the game got, this version of Ada is who gets left in the hands of every future writer who has/wants to handle her. Yet, Leon being there in RE4 puts a few splinters in this persona. Wesker's kill order for Leon absolutely cracks it. Leon may be experiencing his own personal hell, but so! is! Ada! Wong! She doesn't have to do shit. She doesn't have to save Leon. She doesn't have to kill him. She can honestly just do her job and get out, but she hasn't changed. She's just gotten really fucking good at lying to herself. So we once again see her putting everything on the line for Leon, and risking her own neck so he can get out. And this is great! And you want to see more.
And then we get RE:Damnation.
Why was she there? Look. Look at me. I love Ada. She's my wife. Why was she in the Eastern Slav Republic pretending to work for the BSAA? Oh, to collect a sample of las plagas! Wait. Wasn't she in the village where there was a fuck ton of them before this event? Why wouldn't Wesker have that already? Oh no, she needs the special plagas that let's people control lickers for a limited period of time before the parasite develops and the host become one of those twisty head zombies. Ah. A failed plagas then? She wants a failed plagas? Well, she would've had a much easier time just stealing that from the rebellion. It then would've made her running into Leon a more natural outcome. They started that movie putting Ashley in the proverbial trunk to eliminate that romantic venue and brought in Ada to go "hey! remember! leon likes her! nobody else! we promise!". They're not risking anything for each other. Ada isn't doing what she has been doing the last two stories, and it's off. The femme fatale stuff is happening, but you can cut her out and lose nothing from the movie other than a cat fight. You can't do the same thing in RE4. You can't do the same thing in RE2!
And then we get Resident Evil 6.
I enjoyed watching the Ada storyline in the game despite all the strange mechanic choices they made with the game's play style. Up until this point in the games, her and Leon keep risking their lives and/or job credibility for each other. That's what they do regardless if people view their relationship as platonic or romantic.
This game with Ada's story was a great opportunity to show how she's also wearing a mask she's built up over the years. The one that gets cracked in RE4 with Leon's mere appearance and a genuine concern for his safety. The thing is in RE6, she's kind of all over the place. We first see her doppleganger not knowing it's a different woman, and every fan is up in arms about how reasonably OOC the act is. And they're right. Next we see the real Ada, and she seems just as natural as she was in RE4. We just assume it's an outfit change until she starts investigating. Then she goes from mercenary/spy to playing superhero.
The one thing I like about the resident evil games, is that when 2 characters are supposed to be on equal ground, they'll often save each other the same amount of times. They meet in the middle, and there's something sweet about it. In RE6, Ada is constantly covering Leon's ass the closer we get to the end. Leon gets to save her with that final Simmon's confrontation. We are not counting Leon protecting fake Ada from Chris because it wasn't her. RE6 was trying so hard to make the real Ada likable by having her go out of her way to do good for everyone as a sharp contrast to doppleganger Ada's actions. However, they lost some of what makes Ada so complex with these narrative decisions.
It's nice we get to see her hurt and anger by taking out doppleganger Ada's final experiment before it hatches, but that's the end of the game! We don't get a little epilogue scene of what she's doing or how she feels like everyone else gets! They say "oh yeah, she's fine, she has more work now. Nothing's changed." When we get to see the result of hurt like we did in RE2, or the knowledge she'll gladly disobey orders for her own peace of mind in RE4.
This was a lot of words to say RE2 and RE4 remember Ada's more than just a femme fatale, whilst later appearances in the series forget this.
The remakes for now don't do that. In the remakes, we know from the get go she's looking out for herself first, and other people come second. Leon ranks a little higher on this list than everyone else, and I'm very eager to see the depiction expanded on if we get a remake Separate Ways DLC.
EDIT: Oop, just realized she was constantly covering Leon's ass in RE4 too based on the OG separate ways. Ignore that one segment, but the rest still stands!
