Hooty is an instinct to the children, not unlike the fundamental human need to create religion and to tell stories. He's the need young girls feel to create mud potions in their gardens or to decapitate their Barbies. The need for every schoolchild to draw that same graffiti "S"

The Boiling Isles children need Hooty's presence in a way that they don't even understand.

Whenever Lilith has a nightmare, she sobs in her sleep, makes her little annoyed sounds and sometimes calls out names depending on the dream. Every time she wakes up, she sees Hooty staring at her, prepared with a cup of tea, scaring her even after years of doing that.

Whenever Hooty has a nightmare, he makes loud noises that wake Lilith up. She pets his head and after S3 even talks to him to comfort him and then hugs him when he wakes up.

Obviously it's leaning into canon-divergent territory where Hunter had more time/episodes after TTT to mourn Flapjack and the Clawthornes are able to help him craft a new staff in time before the final big fight. I know he doesn't have a bile sac but...if he can use such a staff along with his new flash step, that'd be amazing to watch. From a narrative, emotional and visual standpoint, it's also a great way to show the anger he now has towards Belos. Would you guys wanna see such screencap manips?

So for whatever reasons, Hexsquad manages to get to the human realm, and its just them trying to find the two.

Titan's Blood is so potent that only a single drop was needed to make the portal door operational

Yet when in the human realm, Belos found a full vial of Titan's Blood and smashed the entire thing to make another portal.

That was the last of all the Titan's Blood between both realms (that Belos & almost all of the cast know of), and yet he quickly wasted a proportionally large supply of it with no guarantee he'll ever find more and be able to return home again.

And I think he did this on purpose, not just in a poorly thought out haze to escape the main cast after their battle.

He only just returned to the human realm but it's changed far more than he can comprehend, just like Luz warned him it did. Back in E&E as he summoned the Collector he said "It doesn't matter, I just need to live long enough to see this through to the end", and maybe he genuinely meant it at the time, or even for a while afterwards, but it's been centuries since he made that declaration, it's plenty likely he's afraid of 'finishing his mission' at this point. I mean, what else is there for him afterwards? Caleb is long gone and has been for centuries, he's officially lost control over the last grimwalker, the human realm is completely different than he remembers, witch hunting isn't a thing anymore, he's lost all his own humanity -- the only thing he has left is to go back to the demon realm and...? Try to kill everyone again? Get himself killed "fighting for a righteous cause"? He really doesn't have any options left, and it took seeing the human realm again for him to realize that.

Belos knows how terrifying and godly powerful the Collector is, that's why he made the decision to not release them (and also because betraying people is his #1 hobby). He knows they've been released, he knows they hate him, and he knows they'll probably try to kill him again if he returns. With all of the knowledge in mind, it's safe to assume the Collector is going to be tormenting the entire demon realm, so Belos' mission to destroy it has effectively come to fruition even if it wasn't how he planned.

Yet he needlessly used the entirety of the only material that makes hoping dimensions possible in a one-way trip. We know Belos has lost his mind, and did like 400yrs ago, but comparing how precious he treated the Titan's Blood in the demon realm when it was to get home vs how he treated here, I think it's a clear indicator that he's running away and trying to create plausible deniability on why he won't ever see the human realm ever again.
