I think my least favorite thing ever of all time is when I’m reading a fanfic and Basen and Lily are villains like NO my children would NEVER
It’s usually the case in OG Cale fanfic, now don’t get me wrong I love the guy but also his family was not all horrible, and Basen and Lily were NEVERRRR at fault. Lily is literally like, seven years old and Basen is fifteen neither of them hate their brother either. Any child wouldn’t know how to approach their older brother who doesn’t talk to them and is distant(+ is known for having a bad personality) like that isn’t their fault 😭😭
OG Cale distanced himself from his siblings to protect them, there’s no one to fault in this situation for things turning out this way because it happened due to so many combining circumstances. Like IDK! I just don’t like it when Lily and Basen are treated like bad people cause I just find it a bit ridiculous.
Basen and Lily could’ve tried talking to OG Cale, but the real question is if he would let them talk to him ykwim, his act was perfect with literally no flaws. The reason it worked so well was because no one KNEW him and he probably knew that part too. The sadness to their situation is that they all had their reasons and cared for eachother but there wasn’t really any communication
Tbh it should have been Deruth’s job to ask Cale what was wrong, he’s not like the worst father ever okay but he also has extreme communication issues! The Henituse’s middle name is practically ‘communication issues’ like none of them are very good at it I fear. Deruth clearly cares for his son a lot, but he doesn’t know how to approach Cale possibly out of guilt/fear he’ll hurt his son even more. Which is why he just let’s Cale do what he wants
I think it’s important to note that the family did have faith in Cale, they all knew he wasn’t a bad person but they were all just so distant from eachother. I don’t think Deruth would have offered KRS!Cale to go to the capital after like a weeks worth of changed behavior unless he knew that there was more to his son than what the public thought. Again I think the big issue with the Henituse family is their communication
The characters all have complicated dynamics and personalities and it’s just something I don’t like when everything is treated very one dimensional

you know what makes the Toymaker's 'ge-sticking on dee hair meinself' scene extra horrifying? we've seen that he has the capability to transform people into toys with just a touch (e.g., turning those UNIT guards into balls)...which means he chooses to 'make' (i.e., hand-craft) his dolls piece by piece 👀 in The Giggle novelisation, he says of Donna: 'What lovely hair Donna Noble had. How I would enjoy stitching it into place on a doll's head and combing it nice and straight.' making living people into toys isn't just the unconscious act of a godlike entity with too much power: for the Toymaker it's a deliberate, sadistic act he takes pleasure in 😭 even scarier: although he wants to stitch Donna's hair to a doll's head, it's clear that he wants Donna's soul to be inside the body of that doll (as he mentioned putting her in a cabinet and inviting her out to play games). but in the episode, some poor woman's had her hair cut off and stitched onto Stooky Bill...so where's the rest of her? i think that the Toymaker doesn't just hand-craft his toys. i think he mixes and matches his toy parts from different people 😨

It's so funny to me when people call Shen Qingqiu mean for the way he acts towards Shang Qinghua, or act as though Shang Qinghua is genuinely hurt and crying himself to sleep over that treatment. Shang Qinghua is SUCH a goddamn weirdo. He's a twink. He's 70 years old. He has no guilty conscience. He doesn't view anyone or anything around him as real. In part 3 of the Airplane Extras, when Binghe has Shen Qingqiu imprisoned in his palace, Shang Qinghua quite literally says that if he were in charge of the situation ("could still control the current Bing-ge with his pen") that he would have made Binghe "defile Shen Qingqiu hundreds of times." He adds detail that I'll spare you in this post. He wrote a novel where like every character was supposed to be gay, including his literal dream man, and then he calls straight people "normal" people. His narration is like a fever dream, in the way he views the world and how he understands/processes it. He's a funny little guy who is busy with way more important things. I promise you he does not care - and if anything, finds it actively amusing - that his most loyal hater who is literally 50 years younger than him is snarky with him sometimes. It's what he deserves tbh

What kind of stories would you like to see in the Fence fandom this coming year? Any particular tropes or themes you’re fond of?
Fantasy? College au? Nicholas spending winter break with the Katayamas? Birthday fics? A different sport au? “Who hurt you?”
What are your deepest Fence desires? 👀✨
Oooohhhh i’ve always wanted to make a nichoji Young Royals au!! But i’m still wondering who’d be better as the prince lmao so any suggestions would help 😭
Another one you mentioned, “Nicholas spending winter break with the Katayamas” has been on my mind since I finished the novels! Seiji’s dad seems like a chill guy who’d enjoy Nicholas’ company and the shenanigans that’d happen during their visit aaaaaa
Let me share a few scribbles I made for this scenario!!!

🎹🛝🐓🤠Reversal Sloose - Hangster🤠🐓🛝🎹
Silly post about Slider/Hangman & Goose/Rooster being like father-like son.
(As much as I support the Hangman being mav-coded and Rooster being ice-coded AND Hangman being ice-coded and Rooster being mav-coded theories, I'm also team Slider being Hangman's dad. ❤️)

deeply enjoy that the novel can also be read as a commentary on the fallacy of information. we have zzs as the main narrator who adds to this nuance by being a former spymaster and leader of a bunch of proficient investigators. hes very intimate with the process of verification of information, and even his vast databank of knowledge and his abilities of filtering and sorting the "true" from the "fake" is tested throughout the novel through many instances and events. its especially interesting because he makes a major mistake, almost from the very start, that he resolves only after a very long time, and only after overcoming personal weaknesses. his personal weakness at recognizing truth vs decept reveals itself in the inability to meet personal events with a human perspective; he is basically functioning like a person with two lives, and most of the time, he at least acts as if he is regarding wkx, suspected master of ghosts, from the professional business grounds of the retired leader of shadows rather than from the perspective of a person with an adventurous life and wishes of his own. in this lies the danger to misinterpret and to refuse to confront what is truly going on. if zzs cant 'find' the "true reason" for the ghost master following his humble retired self, he is going to do his utmost to make up one (on the basis of his personal and professional experience with such situations), instead of considering at least once the admittedly unlikely chance that wkx might like him and is even deeply sincere about him. this doesnt signal anything less but that we, as the reader, should not irrevocably trust even the one person who is in most stories the most trustworthy; the main narrator. instead, we are advised to reserve us the right to doubt and think for ourself, to look critically upon even zzs, which only circles back to the novel's theme of the fallacy of information. it even lends to the novel's dialogue with the human right to form your own opinion and your own thoughts and come to your own conclusions, no matter how much they might diverge from norm or mainstream or traditions, and no matter how tempting it might be not to.
