For scenarios... could I request rfa accidentally meeting MC before the party? no drama like "there's a bomb so I gotta run to your place" they just accidentally meet somewhere and MC recognises them from the pictures in the chatrooms and goes to greet them. Rika's apartment can't be far away from where the others live so it should be impossible. (if you can find a way to squeeze in V that's okay but you don't have to)

YOOSUNG:

MC and he were actually studying at the same university, but different subjects!

They had a common elective course of modern history though, one that Yoosung’s friends convinced him to take with them since they could share notes, and MC simply had an interest in it, and well, needed the extra credits

Neither of them really noticed each other at first-it’s a big classroom and it’s in the afternoons, so oftentimes Yoosung just skipped lmao

Once though Yoosung’s friends couldn’t make it to the class so he offered to go and take notes for the day, and rushed into the class a little late, so he took the first seat available-right next to MC

He struggled to both write and listen to the professor at the same time, and eventually he got a little behind with his notes. MC noticed his cute frustrated face and shared their notes with him, tapping him on the shoulder as they quietly pushed their papers to him

Yoosung’s happy face was stuck in MC’s mind-he wore his feelings on his sleeve and it was so refreshing to see someone this innocent at this day and age.

They became fast friends afterwards-exchanging facebook accounts and talking via messenger often, sometimes about the class, sometimes about anything and everything else

They even had study sessions to help each other study!

Near the end of the semester, and right when this extra class ended, is when MC stumbled upon the RFA messenger-and one look at Yoosung’s name along with his shooting star emoji got them excited to realise there’s a familiar face amongst this strangeness

The rest of the members found their friendship cute, and Zen constantly tried to play match-maker for the two, telling Yoosung that ‘he should’ve told the RFA he has such a cute girlfriend’ lmao

(*cue Yoosung flushing redder than Seven’s hair*)

ZEN:

No, contrary to what you might think, MC wasn’t his fan-they did however hear about Zen through friends interested in musicals, and agreed he was handsome

No, instead, they met him whilst helping out a friend who was working backstage at one of Zen’s shows-they needed help finishing up painting of some background sets, and MC offered to help them in their free time, and as a return their friend offered MC tickets to the show

Zen met MC whilst rehearsing-he knew MC’s friend and went over to say hi, and met MC, who he of course instantly tried to flirt with, even though he was half-kidding about it

Well, flirtatious nature aside, the two really hit it off, and became good friends-not that they were super close or anything, but Zen would stop and chat with MC after rehearsals, and he invited MC out along with the rest of the crew after the first successful run of the show

He didn’t exchange any social media accounts with MC, because quite frankly, he doesn’t have any lmao, and MC’s phone was broken so they couldn’t give him their number either

Zen insisted that if they leave it up to fate, they’ll meet again, and well-he was right

Lo and behold, MC joined the RFA, and whose face is the first they see in an oh-so-modest selfie?

Yup, Zen the Knight it is

His first words when he realised who MC was were ’See? I told you fate would find a way!’

Sure Zen,,,sure lol

JUMIN:

MC actually scored an interview as Jumin’s executive secretary!

They were so thrilled about it, and did their best to calm their nerves before the interview, knowing that being jittery and anxious would lead them nowhere

Well, they were more than shocked at Jumin’s cold behaviour, but they did their best to match his pace, answering each of his questions without missing a beat, mentioning their credentials without bragging about them

Honestly, Jumin was very pleased-he saw a perfect candidate across him, albeit a little inexperienced due to age, but that didn’t really matter to him-with a little training they’d be perfect for the job

Well, eventually though a better candidate came along, so MC was left with the rejection e-mail in their inbox, disappointed but ready to move on

They had all but forgotten about Jumin Han until stumbling onto the RFA and meeting him again, confused and surprised at the difference of his character in the chatrooms

They didn’t mention the interview at all, but Jumin has the memory of an elephant-one look at MC’s name reminded him of how he met them, and he reassured them that they were incredibly good at the interview and left an impression on him

It takes some getting used to his different attitude, but it’s refreshing to see a man they thought of as cold and calculated be a complete cat-loving goof-and it’s honestly one of the things that makes MC fall for Jumin

And vice-versa, Jumin remembers MC’s serious confident attitude at the interview, and is pleasantly surprised to learn what a gentle, kind person they are in the messenger

When they meet Jaehee though….boy are they glad they didn’t get the job lmao

*pat pat* it’s okay Jaehee…hang in there baby

JAEHEE:

MC was working part-time as a barista at a coffee shop near C&R!

It was a small independent shop, hidden in-between bigger franchises, but their coffee was great, and if there’s one person that loves good coffee, well, it’s Jaehee

The first time she visited the shop she was at a loss of what to order, the possibilities endless with all these brews of coffee they offered, and MC found Jahee’s flustered face adorable

They chatted her up to see what kind of flavours she likes and dislikes, and ended up making her a delicious cold brew with vanilla cream-just sweet enough to give her that sugar rush she needed, but not enough to hide the flavour of the coffee itself

Well, Jaehee was more than thrilled both at the taste, and at the cute cashier *wink wonk*, so she quickly became a regular at the shop

Yes this is your good ol’ cliche coffee AU DON’T JUDGE ME

She’d always stop for a cup of coffee before work, and would secretly be happy on the days she ended up meeting MC during their shift-she’d try and visit during her breaks too, when time would allow it, and would sit and sometimes chat with MC when the cafe wasn’t too busy

MC eventually learnt some stuff about Jaehee, that she works as a secretary to some annoying cat-loving rich dude (lmao sorry Jumin), that she loves coffee, and that her dream is to eventually open her own cafe, if circumstances allow it

One day, Jaehee went to the shop, knowing that MC had a shift at that time, but they were nowhere to be found-their co-workers said MC called in that they can’t make it today because something urgent came up, so Jahee nodded along, wondering if MC was okay

….well, she didn’t have to worry for too long, as not soon after she got her coffee and headed back to the office, a familiar name popped up on the RFA chatroom

Yup, this is a coffee shop au alright-just with some hacker and cat-loving twists lol

SEVEN:

You can never convince me that this boy is not an active reddit user, and you most definitely can Not convince me he isn’t in any and all paranormal and horror forums either

So he’s scrolling around on reddit one day, posting memes and trolling people, when he stumbles upon a really interesting thread someone made about the origins of mothman and possible sightings outside the USA

He’s hooked and spends a lot of time reading through the thread, intrigued by the sophisticated way the OP wrote their points and how well-thought of their evidences were

He started commenting on the thread and talking with the OP, who he soon became online friends with-he loved to chat with them about spooky stuff, cryptids, conspiracy theories and so forth

He didn’t talk much about himself, and would sometimes even make up some lies because he didn’t want to seem like a creep that won’t even share his name, but he couldn’t give out his info that easily; he did however tell them his code name, 707

Eventually they started talking outside of reddit too, through facebook messenger (i mean…we already know this dude has a facebook account and posts his cars there lmao), and is thrilled to find out more about his new online friend, MC, and to even find out they live far closer than he thought!

Well, he gets used to talking with MC almost everyday, and it’s actually one of the few highlights of his day-he’s never really had someone care for him the way this person, someone he hasn’t actually ever met in real life does. He wonders if they’d change their mind about him if they ever met him in real life, but shakes the thoughts away-it’s not as if this could ever develop into something more than an online friendship anyway

Well…or so you thought, Seven lol

When a stranger comes barging into the RFA messenger, he’s instantly tracing their steps and finding out all their internet activities, and lo and behold-whose facebook account is this that he ended up finding? Why, it’s none other than MC!

The moment Seven found out, he got suspicious; was MC just pretending to be online friends with him to hack into the RFA? Were they stealing information without him knowing?

It hurt to have to think this way, but how else could they be linked?

When he slowly found out MC was actually innocent, he was more than relieved-he secretly happy that he could now chat with them both online and on the RFA app, that he could share parts of himself with MC that he couldn’t before

to say he fell for them is the understatement of the century lmao

V/JIHYUN:

When he first started with photography, he took some classes at a local university to learn more about professional photography, photoshop e.t.c

And MC happened to be taking the same classes as him!

They often sat next to each other, not talking at first, but then their professors would sometimes ask them to pair up to work on assignments, and MC ended up paring up with Jihyun more than once

They became fast friends-Jihyun was a little distant, but always friendly in a cold, aloof way, and always polite, and he found MC to be so warm and gentle, he was naturally drawn to them

He did feel attracted to them, but never made a move-he was still struggling with so many things himself, he didn’t want to drag anyone else into his mess. He just wanted to focus on photography and that’s that

So whilst they talked a lot during university, as soon as they graduated, V drifted away, and when he even changed his phone number all communication was lost between the two

Well, time went on, and MC slowly began to forgot about the mint-coloured man they met, until they stumbled into the RFA chatroom

They didn’t realise it was Jihyun at first-he did change his name after all, and everyone in the char referred to him as V, but the way he texted was very familiar, even though MC couldn’t quite understand why

When he finally introduced himself, they were stunned. They didn’t want to ask him if he remembers them though-it’d be too embarrassing if he said he didn’t

But of course V did remember them-the moment Seven told him their name after his background check, all the memories came flooding back, opening up a Pandora’s box in his chest where he locked all those feelings away

Even if they’re back within arms’ reach, and even if they seem interested in him though…it’s useless. He’s far beyond repair, and if he didn’t want to drag MC into his mess then, he most certainly doesn’t want to drag them into it now

So he becomes distant again, more so than ever before but MC isn’t having it-they call him out on his bullshit, and tell him to square up and be honest otherwise they’re leaving

So V reluctantly admits to it all-to remembering MC, to his feelings towards them, and to his own cowardliness back then, and how it’s now too late to change anything; even if he wants to. God, he wants to.

My Secret Session Experience

On May 23, 2015 during the 1989 era Taylor Swift followed me on tumblr. She's been following me since then, and at the start of the reputation era she started noticing me and liking posts I was sharing (19 to be exact). She started joining fan's livestreams on Instagram which encouraged me to create a fan account (so as to not annoy all my non-swiftie friends) and start livestreaming on there in hopes that Taylor would see and join. On October 12, she joined my livestream and chatted with me for 20 minutes.

About 30 minutes later I got a message from Taylor Nation on tumblr, saying they noticed I was a great fan and would like some info from me. I knew this meant that SOMETHING was gonna happen, but I didn't know what. When I saw the next day that there was a secret session in London I cried, knowing that it was a huge possibility I was going to one. 2 days later on the 14th I got a phone call from TN saying there was a super secret special event happening on the 19th in Rhode Island and I was invited. I did my best to keep my cool while talking to them and the moment I hung up I BURST INTO TEARS! I couldn’t believe this was actually happening. They took all my info and another 2 days later they sent me the email with the location and time.

So we drove up to Rhode Island on the 19th and met at the location we were given. After being checked in, signing a confidentiality agreement and having our phones and bags taken (we literally could not bring anything because it was confidential) we eventually got onto vans that drove us to Taylor's house. We went in and got to hang out in the kitchen/balcony/sitting area with her mom, dad and brother (who all were so nice and pure) and eat snacks (including rep cookies and m&ms this girl is so extra I love her). I first talked to Scott who was so funny and kind, he kept yelling out to make sure everyone got picks! I also asked him to confirm that the chicken nuggets were in fact Chikfila 😂 he told us beautiful stories about Taylor, he was radiating with pride for her. Then eventually Andrea made her way through hugging and talking to everyone. I hugged her and told her she’s so beautiful and she looked at me in the eye and said “YOURE so beautiful” and I was like omg. Then I was wondering the halls looking at the pics on the wall and as I was looking at a picture I turned around AND AUSTIN WAS RIGHT BEHIND ME and I was so thrown off I was like OH UHM HI and he laughed and held out his hand and was like “hi I’m Austin nice to meet you!” And I was like omg hi I’m Laci nice to meet you too! And then I asked him for a hug and he was like oh course! And gave me this big hug.

After some time they let us go into the living room where we all sat on pillows and blankets on the floor and anxiously waited for Taylor to come in. We all started singing Fearless (IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT) and as we were singing Taylor walks into the room and we all start screaming and crying. She sits down in a chair in front of us smiling so big at all of us, and then the session began.

Unfortunately I can't share details about the session, but I will say that this is hands down her best album. It is a total 360 from anything she's ever done, but that's because you can tell that it's the real Taylor finally coming out of her "nice girl" shell. She's no longer letting anyone speak for her, she's reclaiming herself and no longer quietly standing back while people try to tear her down. This album is RADIATING happiness and confience and she is SO PROUD of it and so so happy. This album will blow you away.

Also, she was so INSANELY ADORABLE while lip syncing the songs to us. You could see how proud she was of every single lyric. She kept saying “this is one of my favorites” and I kept calling her out about how she said she couldn’t pick a favorite track on my livestream. She was like “I genuinely don’t have one favorite!” And I was like “I didn’t know if you just were lying cause you didn’t wanna give it away until the album came out!” (Which I didn’t mean to say she was lying I meant to say that she was just saying that because she didn’t wanna reveal it yet omg I DIDNT MEAN TO CALL HER A LIAR LOL) and she looked at me with the CUTEST look and was like “I would never lie to you, you know that!!” And I was like IM SO SORRY IM GONNA GO DIE NOW LOL. She also referenced SO MANY tumblr memes I was dying.

Anyway after listening to the album (I kept making comments about the songs and stuff and she kept replying to me omg), Taylor left to refresh herself while we got moved to a sunroom to hang out with each other and look at the magazines from Target available to be pre-ordered. YALL ARE GONNA WANNA GET THESE LET ME TELL YOU! All of a sudden Taylor popped back into the room and told us that since we were such a great bunch she had a suprise for us, WHICH SADLY I CANNOT SHARE. (Yes, this surprise got leaked on tumblr but I was told not to share it so I'm not gonna continue to spread it. If you really wanna know you can do your research.) She made eye contact with me SO MUCH during this surprise I couldn't stop crying.

Then finally she stepped back into the other room for the meet and greets. She took her time with everyone so we just hung out in the sun room while we waited until we were ready. My mom and I stayed back to be closer to the end hoping we'd have more time with her (which backfired sadly because they wanted everyone out by midnight).

When it was our turn I walked in and she smiled so big at me and opened her arms to hug me and was like "Hi how are you!" and I was just like "omg I'm great how are you!" and she thanked me for coming and I thanked her for inviting me and then she hugged my mom and thanked her for bringing me. She then asked me what we wanted to do for our picture and I told her my mom wanted to hold a Grammy, so she took her two Grammy's off her shelf and handed them to us to hold for the picture. As she handed them to us she told me she loved the matching color scheme my mom and I had going on and I laughed and said we are always twinning. So we took the picture and she took the Grammy's back and I started telling her about how much her music got me through the worst breakup and she was like "right your All Too Well breakup" (referring to the breakup I told her about on my livestream) and told me that I was part of the reason she gave us that surprise (OH MY GOD). I told her about how much I had been hurt by this guy and the whole time I was talking about it she was like "oh my god I hate him I depsise him I want to kill him" which had me laughing. She also told me she was feeling so protective over me and that we had to take a super cute picture to make him mad (did I mention I love her?). So she saw that we were both wearing matching rose gold snake rings and said maybe we could hold them up to show them off, but I said I already had a pose idea which would kind of show off the rings (yep I literally rejected a pose idea from Taylor Swift omg). So I had her hug me around my shoulders from behind and I held onto her arms in front of me and she was like "omg that's super adorable". Then I thanked her again and hugged her and stepped aside so my mom could get a picture with her. After that we were saying bye and then I ran back to her and was like ONE MORE HUG and she squeezed me so tight it was magical. Then we got our merch bags and got back in the van to be taken back to our cars.

I was a little upset because she didn’t say my name when I came in and everyone was saying how they were complimented by her or that she told them she stalked them a lot and she didn’t really say any of that to me. But after thinking about it I realized that I had my hair and makeup different from how I normally look online and I’m pretty sure she didn’t recognize me right away and I totally threw her off lol. And honestly I just kept rambling about my stupid ex (my brain literally was not working cause I was in a state of disbelief) so I didn’t really give her an opportunity to talk about my tumblr or anything lol. But I do have her telling me that I was part of the reason she gave us that special surprise, and that means everything to me. As I said we were also a little rushed because it was getting close to midnight which kind of sucked and made me even more nervous lol. It still was the best night of my life and I can’t thank Taylor enough for actually choosing me and wanting to meet me. She is such a truly kind and beautiful soul and I will never forget this gift she’s given me. 💕

a fyre festival au because i have 0 chill, set in the ‘marble hearts collide’ universe bc ria asked for like an 80k companion fic, and because 36 of you seemed to like the idea. basically: it’s half fyre and half ust denial jily and a Big Mess.

for @gxldentrio @petalstofish who asked for more and @fredweasleying who supports james and sirius’ stupidity

most of my info is off the snapchat stories, articles and tweets but i’ve also done a lot of exaggerating, so take all reference to the festival with a bit of salt

It’s Sirius’ idea because, if it involves a stupid waste of money and the promise of celebrity chefs, it will always be his idea. And, because it’s Sirius’ idea, James is in.

“It’s ridiculous,” Lily says, scrolling through the festival’s instagram.

“No, it’s luxury,” Sirius says and snatches his phone back, “you wouldn’t understand.”

Remus raises an eyebrow, “she practically lives with you, I think she understands what luxury is.”

“And waste of money,” Peter adds, helpfully.

“I can’t believe I let any of you into my house, when you’ve just come to insult me!” Sirius pouts, throwing himself dramatically back on the chaise.

“Criticise your money spending habits,” Remus corrects, and just manages to dodge a throw pillow Sirius launches at him.

‘What does Potter think, anyway?” Lily asks, looking down at her own phone.

“Why does Potter’s opinion matter?” Sirius retorts.

Lily is definitely avoiding eye contact, “It doesn’t.”

There’s a murmur of disbelief, and Lily scowls at her phone, knowing that if she looks up she’ll be accosted by five raised eyebrows, because only Sirius has learnt how to raise both separately.

“But, seriously, when is Prongs back?”

“Well, Moony, funny you should ask...” Sirius smirks, “he arrived last night.”

Lily’s head shoots up, “but -”

“But what Evans, not happy to see me?” A voice comes from the doorway, and they all turn to see James leaning, not as gracefully as Sirius would have, against the doorjamb with a smirk to match Sirius’ on his face.

“How long have you guys been planning that?” Peter asks, and he’s not as fast as Remus so a throw pillow hits him in the stomach.

Remus laughs, “probably longer than they’ve been planning this festival bullshit.”

“Losers,” Lily mutters, finally looking away from James, pretending that her phone screen is more interesting than the bit of chest his loosely tied dressing gown shows.

“Very easily,” Lily snatches the bottle from Mary’s hand and pours herself another drop. Drop meaning entire glass. “It’s like this,” she pauses to take a sip, “you guys are projecting your fantasies on to me-”

“Oh, no no no!” She’s drowned out by cries of protest and drinks the rest of her glass as a distraction. Drinking red wine is so easy when she’s already drunk.

Thankfully, she’s saved from any more discussion about a particular black haired man by Peter sprinting in the room, skidding to a halt with his phone held out in front of him, “Have you seen this?”

Fyre Festival Goes Up in Flames

The luxury beach festival due to be held this weekend in the Bahamas has begun but, unlike the promotional videos, there is nothing luxury about it. Festival goers who arrived early have been reporting rabid dogs, empty tents, and not a single celebrity in sight.

Snapchat videos and tweets show people arriving to what some have described as the ‘season finale of the Walking Dead’. Inside the tents, which are being fought over as we speak, empty mattresses and tables which look like they’re from IKEA are stand ins for the promised ‘5 star accommodation’. Since festival go-oers paid between $2,000 and $12,000 for this, it’s understandable that they’re annoyed.

Reportedly, celebrities who promoted the festival, such as the Jenner sisters, Bella Hadid and other supermodels/quasi-celebrities, were warned not to attend in advance of the festival.

The thing is, Lily isn’t in love with James. She knows what love looks like. Her parents were in love, Petunia loves Vernon (not that Lily understands why), Frank and Alice are in love, Marlene and Tegan are in love. She has seen love. It’s holding hands and forehead kisses and long trips away to the beach and getting a dog together and sharing interests and watching tv all day in pyjamas and sharing bank accounts and smiling when the other person isn’t looking and wanting to spend the rest of your life together and having inside jokes and knowing as much as possible about the other person and knowing that no matter what you’re always safe with them.

And sure, she and Potter have a lot of inside jokes, but she has a lot of inside jokes with Peter too. And sure, they’ve spent all day watching tv together, but never on the same piece of furniture. And sure, if she needs help she goes to Potter, and if she’s sad she rings him, and if she sees a funny otter video she sends it to him, but that’s how it’s always been, and sometimes she goes to Sirius too. Plus, they don’t have a puppy together and Lily is pretty certain they’ve never held hands. So, really, she can’t be in love with James.

The conclusion is a good one, Lily thinks as she finishes her third glass of wine (third really meaning ninth) and allows herself to pay attention to the others again. It’s difficult to play charades when she’s distracted by the thought of being in love with James Potter, but now she’s cleared that one up, it’s easy to guess that Remus is acting out National Treasure 2.

Marlene and Tegan get the downstairs guest room, Remus and Peter crash in the extension Sirius constantly denies he added so they could have their own rooms, Mary and Gemma take the upstairs guest room which Lily usually sleeps in, which means Lily is left with five choices. She could share with Mary and Gemma because it’s a king sized bed, but Gemma snores. She could sleep in one of the other two guest rooms, but she’s pretty sure one of them is haunted, and the other one has a broken bed from when Alice and Frank stayed around last week. Which leaves her with Potter’s room. Unless she really wants to picklock Sirius’ and risk facing his wrath.

It’s an easy choice really. Potter’s room is sans snoring, sans ghost and sans broken bed. Lily nods to herself, and walks up the staircase, waving a middle finger at Mary and Gemma when she passes their open door. The gits.

Potter isn’t even here. It’s not like she’s sharing a bed with him.

Lily shivers at the thought.

She shuts the door behind her and climbs into the bed, definitely not looking at the millions of framed photographs he has on his bedside table. One of him and the boys back at boarding school, arms looped around each other, smiles wide. Mary had taken that one, the day they all finished their GCSEs. One of him and his parents, at their vow renewal service, James and Fleamont towering over Euphemia. One of him and a bunch of kids all sat on a hospital bed, a sign above the bed saying ‘thank you!’. One of him with Graham Norton, both looking too excited. One of him and Sirius, young, really young, looking almost identical. One of him and all of them, taken by Euphemia at his twenty first birthday party, just before Remus threw up all over everyone’s shoes. One of him and -

Lily squints, leaning out of the bed to look at the one tucked away at the back, almost hidden. Fuck, it’s her. It’s them. She remembers it. It meaning the moment that landed them in seven gossip magazine, too many online columns, and one list of the hottest couples this month. It was one of his charity balls, for mental illness she remembers, one filled with celebrities and champagne trays and tiny snacks which would never satisfy any normal human being.

They’re standing on a balcony, London spread out before them. They hadn’t noticed a photographer, or anyone, because they’d been too busy discussing the pros and cons of making a rope out of Lily’s dress to escape. Potter had suggested tying it to the balcony, climbing down and hailing a cab. He was kidding of course, because he loved these things, because it meant he got to talk about all the causes he loved and everyone had to at least pretend they were listening or their photograph would be splashed beneath a headline which read ‘B List Celebrity Hates Kids’, depending on which cause the ball was for that month.

But Lily, Lily who had grown up in a mining village and worked for every penny she had, still wasn’t used to these balls even after five years of them. She loved the glamour and she could pull off confidence easily, she just didn’t like that she could never tell if people actually cared or not.

So Potter, ever kind, had gone along with her escape plan, coming up with more pros then even she could manage. Then the flash had gone off and they’d jumped, quickly returning inside because James had to make a speech. Or something.

The photograph hadn’t captured their shock though. It had caught her laughing, bright and full, and him smiling, kind and soft, and really, they did look like a couple. They were standing too close, looking too happy to not. Except they weren’t, and the group had had to spend the next three weeks batting away reporters about who was the stunning red head who had captured humanitarian James Potter’s heart. Then it had died down, and everyone had forgotten about the picture, even Lily.

It shocks her that it’s there, on his bedside table. Makes something burst in her chest, a rogue party popper.

So, instead of confronting all the thoughts that pop into her when she sees the picture, like a rational adult, she rolls over, buries beneath the silk sheets and promptly goes to sleep.

“Surprise!” They all yell, as James and Sirius step through the door, their bags brought in moments later by Wesley. James jumps, looking satisfyingly surprised, whereas Sirius just scowls and turns to help Wesley with the remaining suitcases. Clearly, their antics were old by now.

“Here are your disaster survival kits,” Tegan says, offering them two first aid kits which Peter had filled with tiny vodka bottles, rape whistles and Finding Nemo water proof plasters. James accepts both, Sirius just leading Wesley through to the kitchen.

It’s not long before they’re all at least tipsy again, Sirius having finished his temper tantrum over a) the amount of booze they drank and b) the fact that McKinnon had never actually thrown up in a bathtub at all. Lily finds it especially easy to get drunk, probably because she starts drinking whenever James tries to talk to her.

She’s not sure why, but she suspects it has something to do with the photograph. The photograph which she keeps seeing in her head, framed next to his bed. So, every time he comes near her, she brings her glass or bottle to her mouth and refuses to make eye contact.

A successful technique with Potter, but no one else and it isn’t long before Sirius has her cornered, having spotted her new found avoidance scheme.

“You throw us a party, but won’t even talk to one of the special guests,” he says, swirling his scotch around the glass, “would you care to comment?”

“I prefer A-listers to minor celebrities,” she says before she can think of anything else, and because she knows Sirius is still sore about it.

“If you would just stop, and listen to one of us, you know you’d be so much happier,” he sighs.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Lily says, and promptly turns her back on him.

Water Woes: A Look at Estimated Costs

Resolving the St. Clairsville water situation is going to result in increased water and sewer rates for city residents going forward. That much is a certainty. Repairs are needed. Changes must be made. Neither is free. Increases are coming. The important questions of how much that increase will be, which entity will ultimately supply the water, and which will own the city’s water system are still up in the air. Engineer Jeff Vaughn from Vaughn, Coast and Vaughn gave his detailed report to city council this week outlining the city’s options and giving estimated costs, both for repairs, and increases in water and sewer rates depending on what avenues were taken going forward. Estimates are just that, estimates. They aren’t set in stone nor are they contractual. But they do help paint a picture and give council a better shot at making the best, and most cost-effective decision for its citizens. “Jeff was charged with drafting a term paper at 2 a.m. that was due later that morning at 8 and he was able to do it,” St. Clairsville Mayor Kathryn Thalman lauded. “We can’t thank him enough. There are still variables. We don’t have it in writing that the county is going to charge us this much; we have estimations. That’s the best info we have at the moment.” Vaughn talked at length about the city relying on purchasing bulk water from Belmont County and what that will require to bring it to fruition. He also discussed both as similar option with Martins Ferry to purchase bulk water, along with the original tabled purchase agreement made by Aqua Ohio with the city. In terms of the Aqua Ohio portion, the ordinance previously voted on and tabled became null and void after it was revealed changes to it were now necessary following updated orders from the EPA. According to Thalman, Aqua Ohio has agreed to step back from its May 4 deadline to approve the original agreement because of the changes. More details about that will be given during a 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning press conference at council chambers.

What’s Needed for County Viability?

Vaughan went into additional detail on what the city needs to do to be able to switch to purchasing its full allotment of water off Belmont County by the Ohio EPA’s deadline. Again, that deadline was hoped to be five years. It’s been whittled to two. But first, backstory. In the 1960s, the city and county together installed two connections from the county’s water system to the city’s lines. The first was the East End connection, adjacent to U.S. 40 and Rehm Road. The West End connection is at the intersection of Willow Grove and Clark roads. Both were in service until 2005. That’s when the two entities combined on a joint project with Ohio Public Works Commission funding that allowed the county to pump directly to the city’s main transmission line through a booster at the water plant. Flash forward to today. The booster at the plant can account for around 320,000 gallons per day; a sizeable amount but far short of the between 500-600k gallons needed by the city. Capacity isn’t an issue here. It’s hydraulics. “The county water plant can pump around six million gallons per day,” Belmont County Commissioner J.P. Dutton said. “Currently, we’re doing around 3.2 million per day, so we could more than meet St. Clairsville’s needs. But right now, it’s an issue of hydraulics.” That booster station is going to need, well, a boost, until the county’s Ohio 9 pumping station and the new water treatment plant slated to be built along the Ohio River in Bellaire near Muxie’s Distributing, comes online. That means the East End booster will need reestablished to help offset what the current booster at the water plant lacks in pumping capacity. Vaughn estimated that cost at around $518,000. The debt service on that upgrade Vaughn noted would be less than 70 centers per customer. Once that’s done, he said the county can provide the full requirement of gallons for the city and, once the new plant and Ohio 9 booster are finished, then the East End booster can service as a backup and help with redundancy.

County Rates and Estimated Increases

Vaughn noted the county gave the figure of $4.36 per 1,000 gallons of bulk purchase price. Since the county system only supplies the bulk water, St. Clairsville would still be in charge of distribution, any repairs and wastewater treatment. The city, should it not sell to Aqua, would continue to set its own rates. Vaughn noted that a current ordinance calls for $22.98 for city water as the base rate for 2,000 gallons of usage. That would go up to 24.98 in 2021 and 26.98 in 2022. From that point, with bulk water now being purchase from the county, rates would increase at a less steep rate, first at four percent, then three and on down to two. He noted the average monthly consumption for city customers is 3,109 gallons. That amount of usage would see a bill rise of 34.57 in 2000 to $43 in 10 years with all the costs and debt service estimated in the increases. The sewer side would see similar changes as the city’s wastewater treatment plant needs repairs. Once again, using the average usage rate of 3,109 gallons, sewer rates would climb from $25.54 in 2020 to $35.51 in the same timespan as the water. Conversely, Vaughn estimated the Martins Ferry connection would have a greater up-front cost. The Ferry water system currently has a 12-inch line out near Colerain that it could run down through Barton and connect with St. Clairsville’s lines somewhere on N. Sugar Street. Vaughn noted this will require roughly 6.5 miles of new water line ran, along with a pump station. Martins Ferry Water Superintendent Bill Suto, however, noted in an earlier story on LedeNews that he found a shorter path that cut the amount of line needed to approximately five miles. Vaughn assumed that the project would cost $6.2 million and, based on a 30-year zero interest loan secured by Martins Ferry as the operating entity, would cost St. C. customers around $7.20 monthly in debt service for the duration of the loan. Vaughn also noted he believed that the bulk price per gallon through Ferry was slightly higher than the county. “It was worth to go through the analysis as Ferry was doing it best to be good neighbors and was looking to sell some of its excess water,” Vaughn said. “We wanted to indicate what that would be in terms of real numbers. But it’s not economical because Belmont County is already connected and there is less cost. The mayor agreed, though she didn’t rule out the city’s neighbors along the river as a secondary option. “Right now, the most viable option is the county one because the connections are there,” Thalman said. “If somehow Ferry can get some funding and is able to pipe it into our system, that would give us two sources and we are open to that.”

Could Those County Costs Increase?

County water customers are still adjusting to the pangs of higher rates. In 2018, the minimum bill for water was $13 with a rate of $4.93 per 1,000 gallons. That jumped to $20 in 2019 for the minimum and $5.71 per 1,000 gallons. That was done so the county could finally quality for the $72 million in loans and grants provided by the USDA Rural Development program, the largest such award in state history for the program. Prior to that, county customers enjoyed quote low rates for a lengthy period of time. But as problems persisted and debt was incurred with the county system, rates were never increased to match, so general fund money had to be allocated to cover the debt. Not a sustainable plan. No state or federal agency was angling to offer up any funding either. “Our rates were so low for so long, we would ask for grants or loans and the state or federal agency would tell us they can’t justify giving us assistance when we aren’t charging the customers enough,” Dutton said. “We couldn’t qualify, so we had to raise them considerably Doing so allowed us to qualify for these two packages. It was a difficult decision, but at the end of the day it allowed us to secure 72 million dollars total in loans and grants.” Sixty of that $72 million is a 2.3 percent interest loan that will go toward water projects throughout the county, including $20 million alone for the new water plant and a good portion for the Ohio 9 booster station. The remaining $12 million is a grant. An additional $12 million award was issued just prior for sewer upgrades, with $3 million of that total being in grant form. Dutton said the county’s rates are tied to inflation and will be looked at periodically. He added the county had to get to a spot where the USDA felt comfortable making that 40-year commitment and that rates needed to increase and stay where necessary to honor that commitment.

Belmont County has had preliminary talks with both the past and current administrations in Martins Ferry about connecting to its water system with the option to purchase. Price hasn't even been discussed yet. However, with the possibility of a particular water-hungry customer loomings a few miles south and what most valley residents hope is a few months and one big announcement away, excess water may be needed for sale in massive quantities.

Joining Forces?

As previously mentioned, the county can pump roughly six million gallons per day. Martins Ferry’s system has the capacity for 7.5 million with a few upgrades. The Purple City is only using and/or selling less than half of its pumping capacity. Combined that’s quite a lot of gallons potentially available for sale to say, perhaps a planned for large-usage customer that may set up somewhere near Dilles Bottom? Or it could be used for any potential major investments that could be coming to the St. Clair Commons section of the county seat. Dutton didn’t name specifics but did note the county has been in contact with Martins Ferry about water purchase. “We’ve had preliminary conversations with Martins Ferry, both with the prior mayor and the new administration,” Dutton said. “We think long-term, there is a lot of value working with other water systems in Belmont County. Our first priority right now is focusing on the USDA package and getting those projects going. At the same time, if there is some way we could team up, that would be a good thing.” Read the full article

should I push my job-searching friend harder, fired coworker was looking at colleague’s burlesque photos, and more

It’s five answers to five questions. Here we go…

1. Should I push my job-searching friend to tell me what’s holding her back?

A good friend of mine was let go from her job (one in her field that she’s had since we graduated college, also located in our college town) in March. At the time, I asked for details, but she didn’t offer much and I didn’t feel the need to probe. She said that it wasn’t ideal, but wasn’t upset at the timing, since her and her husband were relocating to a different, much larger city (the one that I currently reside in).

She and her husband have since moved down … and she still has not been able to find a job in her field. To ensure she had at least some income, she took a part-time retail job and has been doing that ever since.

I’ve tried quite a few times to assist her in her job search by reviewing her resume, sending her relevant job postings and advice from your website, etc., but she still hasn’t been able to find a position in her field. This doesn’t really make sense. She had great experience at her last job and was there for ~4 years, and her field is a growing market with many positions available. I’m starting to suspect that there’s something else that’s holding her back, and her husband has somewhat pushed me to help her more (I have a background/experience in job development). But when I try to ask, she gets slightly defensive and the conversation shuts down pretty quickly — which is unfortunate, since I can see the toll not getting a job in her field is having on her.

Do you have any suggestions for how I can help her? Do I just need to push past her defensiveness to really get to the bottom of what might be going on (not applying to enough jobs, issues with how she left her last job, etc.)?

Do not push her! You’ve reached out and tried to help, but she’s shut down the conversation, which is her prerogative. Trying to push past her defensiveness would be disrespecting the boundaries she’s putting up. She may just not want to talk about it, and that’s okay. Her husband is the only one with standing to insist that she talk about what’s going on (since it presumably affects him fairly directly), but he can’t outsource that standing to you and pressure you to pressure her.

Respect her boundaries, and trust that you’ve made it clear you’re available if she wants help. Meanwhile, focus on being her friend, not her job coach.

2. A recently-fired employee was regularly looking at another employee’s burlesque pics online

We terminated an office employee this week who was always just kind of creepy and walked the line of inappropriateness with his jokes. He was fired for something else, not because of any complaints.

Today I went through his computer because a) we need a lot of files from it b) he didn’t password protect it c) we need to know what websites he has work accounts for, etc. But oh man, he didn’t log out of or delete his browser history. As I was looking through his Chrome history to see what websites he frequented for work, I discovered that he found a coworker’s – who does burlesque – web page which has ALL KINDS OF nudey pics in it. He was regularly looking at these photos of her. This is not necessarily on his work computer, but likely his personal phone because Chrome syncs browser info. So it’s not necessarily about company property. (I also saw numerous porn sites and google searches for steroids, and I was only looking up til Dec 1.)

But the thing is … I should tell no one, right? Because he’s already fired? And because maybe the burlesque coworker gave him the link? I definitely don’t tell any bosses, and I maybe don’t need to say anything to her? I don’t want her to be in trouble. If I say something to her, it can still be considered sexual harassment, even if I’m just warning her? But no need to tell her because what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her? And she has it out in public because she wants to?

We don’t have permanent, on-site HR here, but our “home office” has acting HR people that we don’t communicate with much. I just … tell no one, right? Or document it somehow?

Tell your coworker. Maybe she gave him the link, and maybes he didn’t and would want to know and have the option to lock it down. It’s not sexual harassment to alert her to this (presumably you’re not going to be leering and making provocative comments about her photos and so forth!). You can simply say, “I wanted to let you know that when I was clearing out Bob’s computer, I found he was regularly looking at your burlesque page. You might be totally fine with this, but in case you weren’t aware of it and wouldn’t want coworkers accessing it, I wanted to give you a heads-up.”

I’m not suggesting that you seek advice from HR on this because I don’t want your coworker to deal with any hassle from them, and it could end up playing out that way. So just a simple heads-up to her, and then move on.

3. My boss is trying to manage my diabetes for me

I started a new job in January this year. I love it — the boss is kind (I came from kind of a stressful situation before this), the coworkers are awesome, and I’ve had a great year.

One small fly in the ointment though. I have Type 1 Diabetes. I’ve had it so long I was actually diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes before the name change. My diabetes is well-managed and well-controlled and has never caused any issues in the workplace, other than occasionally having to have a snack at odd times, which has never been an issue. It isn’t an issue here, either. The thing is, my boss is a micromanager, and he’s trying to manage me and my illness as well. We had a three-day trip in October, and he nearly drove me insane questioning if I was eating as I should, should I be doing anything, did I need to test, etc., etc. It’s coming from a good place, I know that, but Oh. My. God.

How do I say “Dude, I was diagnosed in 1968. I’ve got this” and make him understand that, unless I’m laid out on the floor (which hasn’t happened in years), I really have got this?

The next time he brings it up, be very direct: “Bob, I know you’re coming from a place of concern, but I have this under control and I consider it a private health condition. It’s not something I want to discuss at work. Thanks for understanding.”

Then if he brings it after that: “That’s not something I want to talk about at work! But about (work-related topic)…”

4. Can I ask for a re-do after a Skype interview had technical difficulties?

I applied for a position I am well qualified for that is out of state. I was selected for a first round interview via Skype. There were several interviewers in a conference room and it started out okay but kept getting interrupted because of technical issues. Their video feed froze for a while but they could still hear me. Then I think the audio went out because I asked if they could hear me and no one said yes. Then my feed froze and then my audio went out again. All these issues interrupted the flow of the interview and my own ability to give carefully thought out answers. In my thank-you email to the hiring manager, should I ask for another chance? Maybe offer to fly there on my own dime for an in-person interview?

That sucks, and I can understand why it feels like it put you at a disadvantage! In your thank-you email, though, I wouldn’t ask for another chance, per se, but instead frame it as offering to talk again if they feel it would be helpful. The thing is, they may have heard enough to know that they’re moving you forward regardless (in which case you shouldn’t offer to fly out at your own expense), or they may have heard enough to know that you’re not as strong of a match as they’re looking for (in which case asking for another chance will feel off). But you could say something like, “My sense is that the technical issues on our call may have distracted from our focus on the job and what I’d bring to it, and I’d be happy to set up another time to talk if you think it would be useful. I’m not sure how much of my side of the conversation came through clearly, and I’d be glad to cover some of that ground again if the tech issues got in the way.”

5. Should I tell my boss my coworkers are badmouthing her in another language?

Recently, seven new people were added to my team, most of whom are fantastic to work with. However, two of them, both men who speak Korean, are constantly saying homophobic and sexist slurs in Korean against my boss, who is openly gay. (I can also speak Korean and can fully understand what they are saying, although I don’t think they know that. No one else on the team is Korean.) However, they act polite in front of my boss’ face and to the rest of us, they do good work on projects, and my boss seems to like them. I have told a few of my coworkers about this, but they seem split about whether to report them or keep quiet. I don’t know what to do. Should I tell my boss (and/or HR?) or is this a case of what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her?

What they’re doing is disgusting and toxic, it’s not okay to do at work even if it’s in another language, and your boss needs to know. (Plus, you shouldn’t have to hear it yourself.)

This past weekend I get a knock at the door from some neighbors during a storm telling me that I should move my truck out of the street. i got a car accident on 2/09/10 around 11:45pm, and when i got the police report, it says 00:05am 2/10/10, it really doesnt matter to me at the first moment when i got the report. I tried to claim the insurance, but the agent told me that the other guy has no insurance covered, it's either expired or dont have it. And few days later, i got a letter from The Hartford , stating that: we received your claim request for a loss on 02/09/2010. According to our records, this policy was cancelled effective 2/9/10 for non-payment. We are unable to honor this cliam because the loss occurred after the policy was cancelled. I was so ****** up, i mean, can they do it on purpose ? just because they dont want to pay me ? If so what can i do ? How am i gonna claim my loss ? my car is totaled. I went to do a body checkup...everything is fine, and my health insurance covered that, but can i claim the bill with my car too ? I asked my agent, and it seems like she doesnt help, knows nothing about how to do and doesnt even help, worst agent ever. She suggests me to go to Small Amount Claim Court to file a complaint, because she cant claim the loss from the other guy. So, my questions is, what should i do ? go to the court and file a compalint ? or any advice ? My wife and I are in our 40's and 50's. We have created A/B trusts and transferred our assets to them, and expect to have estates that will benefit from the estate tax saving these trusts afford. We recently both purchased $1M 10-year renewable term life insurance policies that we expect to keep for 10 years. We chose not to use life insurance trusts because the purpose of the policies is to replace the lost income of the deceased spouse if one of us dies relatively soon, not to increase our final estate, and the trusts are somewhat costly. We each specified our own trusts as the beneficiaries, because we want the disposition of assets specified there to be used for this money. The trusts provide for the income, and principle if needed, to be paid to the spouse, and for the remainder to be paid to our child at the remaining spouses death. The question of ownership of the policies is less clear. My lawyer says that it doesn't make much difference who owns them, because the value (estate) taxed is only one year's premium, not the $1M. My accountant says that the $1M is taxed, and that each policy should be owned by the other spouse to avoid tax on that amount. A friend said that there's no way to avoid or significantly decrease the tax, so just leave the ownership as is (each spouse owns their own policy). I bought insurance for my truck. after 3 months of paying my agent i noticed that my financing bank had added 1300 dollars to my loan as a collateral insurance because they did not have proof of my insurance. I went back to my agent and they explained that they forgot to send the payment for 3 months to the main insurance company and that is why it appeared to my bank that I did not have insurance. My insurance agent told me they were gonna do a re-installment and that they were going to give me proof that i had insurance for those 3 months so i could take it to my bank so they could remove the 1300 from the loan. It's been about 10 months and my insurance agent has not given me any proof of my policy so the bank is still charging me for those 3 months. (about 400 per month since im 20). my agent does not want to refund the money for those 3 months, and they do not want to give me a proof of policy. I do have proof of paying them for those 3 months since I payed with a check that they cashed. I want them to give me proof of insurance for those 3 months or to pay 1300 to my loan because they are charging it due to their fault since they forgot to send my payment. But it's good to know how your vows affect your tax situation and explore possible options, such as one spouse deciding to give up or reduce hours at his or her job, to ease any added tax costs.

9. Talk taxes before the vows. You've had the discussion about your tax-favored job benefits. You also discussed how your joint earnings will affect not only your new lifestyle, but also your taxes. Still, you might need to have an additional tax talk. Or two. This is especially true if you have some questions about how your spouse handles some income and subsequent tax matters.

The reason for these added tax talks comes into play if you do decide to file a joint tax return. Both spouses are equally responsible for what's on that lone Form 1040. This is known as joint and several liability and is found in §6013(d)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This statute gives the IRS the ability to come after either spouse for payment of a tax bill, even the spouse who is in more dire financial circumstances. You might be able to avoid or lessen the adverse tax implications if you qualify as an innocent or injured tax spouse.

But it's better to be preemptive. So take a good look at your new married financial and tax situation in making the decision (among others) to possibly file separately to avoid any ill effects of this shared tax liability law.

10. Don't forget about your state taxes. Most Americans face some sort of state tax in addition to what they annually owe Uncle Sam. Many of the actions you'll take with regard to your federal taxes (name change, residence, etc.) also apply to your state tax situation. Check with your state tax office or even better your tax adviser as to what to expect, at all tax levels, now that you're married.

While taxes could be, like your wedding vows noted, better or worse after you're married, they usually don't play a big role in couples' decisions to marry. That's how it should be. Love definitely takes precedence over taxes. That said, however, don't ignore them either. You don't want one of your fist disagreements after starting off your new married life to be about taxes.
