Cinderella sequels multiverse theory + Anastasia's reward for repentance

Do I have your attention? Great! Let me explain what I mean:

For those unfamiliar, Cinderella 3: A Twist In Time (2007) tells the story of Lady Tremaine getting ahold of Fairy Godmother's wand, and using the magic as a means of enacting revenge on Cinderella and finally climbing the social ladder by using Anastasia as a pawn. Cinderella eventually undoes this chain of events thanks to the mice, and Anastasia's conscience as she realizes this is all wrong.

Anastasia is at first coerced into the scam enticed by the thought of the prince loving her. However, as time passes Anastasia realizes that this is NOT what she wants. Especially not through these means. The prince loves her because he's been tricked into thinking she's Cinderella via Among Us Imposter means. Anastasia wants someone to love her for who SHE is, not for who they THINK she is.

This movie takes place on Cinderella and the Prince's first anniversary. Meaning it's been a year since the wedding at the end of the first movie, and LESS than a year since Cinderella 2.

Now, this movie came out in 2007. Cinderella 2 came out in 2002. Many of you might remember Anastasia and the baker falling in love in Cinderella 2. Which, to sharp-eyed Disney Nerds, was never once mentioned in Cinderella 3. Anastasia laments that she wishes there was someone who would love her the way the Prince loves Cinderella

But...what about the baker??? If the story with the baker in Cinderella 2 had really happened at this point...she PROBABLY wouldn't be singing this?? And before you say ''They obviously just forgot about that aspect of Cinderella 2'' HOLD ONTO THAT until after you hear what I've got to say.

At the end of Cinderella 3, when the prince finds the REAL Cinderella and the truth is uncovered, Fairy Godmother asks them if they'd like the true timeline to be restored, as they're currently in a botched false timeline created through Tremaine's meddling. They choose not to return to the present, instead electing to fall in love and have their first year all over again. In layman's terms...Cinderella 2 is now obliterated. It happened, then the timeline change occurred, and now it's going to happen again. Basic Back To The Future timeline meddling plotline stuff.

So here's the meat of my theory: Anastasia doesn't meet the baker until after the timeline reset. It was her reward from a higher power (God, Fairy Godmother, True Love, etc) for doing the right thing and coming clean to Cinderella and the kingdom instead of going along with Tremaine's scheme. She's shown to be visibly uncomfortable with being a piece in her mother's game. And despite obvious fears of consequences, she confesses at the wedding. Something that...I have to imagine must've been hard to do with such a horrible mother and Drizella breathing down her neck. She did the right thing, despite fearing the outcome. Something worth rewarding.

Now remember when I said I didn't think they'd ''forgotten'' about the baker? During the end credits, they show a bunch of really cute painterly portraits of the cast presumably taking place after the movie. And...what's the FIRST one they show???

SHA-BOOEY!!!

Now...this CLEARLY isn't an airtight theory, but in my defense...all time travel movies are VERY messy to a degree. My fallback explanation for any cracks in the case is Cinderella 2 actually takes place after 3, in the new timeline. THAT'S how the story of Anastasia in love manages to be present in THAT movie.

Anyway all this is to say that you should REALLY watch Cinderella 3 if you haven't already because it is GENUINELY one of the cutest disney sequels, and I REALLY love Anastasia's character in the latter Cinderella movies <3

Okay part 2 of redesigns go!!!!

Zenith. The titular bitchular himself. I imagine him in a crop top bc I just thought he'd be snazzy. Also uh. Imagine more red stripes. Yeah.

Audrey! Might find a different picrew so I can experiment with her features more but here she is! Damian gets her thick brows from her lol.

The southern belle and esteemed doctor, Harmony! I wanted her to be as charming as ever, and not look exactly like other characters. I think I'll change her eye color to brown or hazel, just so she doesn't look like Demeter and Diana too much. Also! Well I was gonna say ignore the pink in her design but honestly her hat having a pink and yellow swirl before hanging on the yellow bow seems cute. I have Thoughts about her, Anastasia, Sylvan and Reukra but that's for later. I will say, I am liking the idea that she had Reukra used to date in university.

I'm going to be completely honest. I think Anastasia's canon design is already a 10/10. The only real reason I did a picrew was to get her body size, hair texture and arm across. Outside of that, I think her canon design is great. Fun fact about Ana: She used to be childhood friends with Audrey :)

And I think the last of the characters that I have so far: Sylvan. Of all the canon characters, she's the one who has the most drastic redesign change. Again, might change some details in the future, but I wanted to make her look comfy and fluffy, two of her favorite things being an Eevee lover. Of her old gang, she's the one who is arguably the most tolerable/ friendly towards Reukra. I think I made them childhood friends, so that explains it.

This batch was much shorter but had a bit more consistent theme.

on lyctorhood post-nona the ninth

contrary to a lot of popular posts, i actually don’t think it’s a bad thing that ianthe didn’t care about naberius tern and used him to become a lyctor. not from a moral standpoint, just as far as what it means for her future as a lyctor

this goes against what john gaius wanted. but we’ve already been shown that what he wanted was a great deception and wasn’t actually better for anyone or inherently something that needed to be part of lyctorhood. what he wanted has been proven to be an unnecessary cruelty

she may face further consequences, but, ultimately, her decision is a strength that spared her the specific lyctoral trauma that all of her predecessors and, to some extent, even harrow*, experienced. it seems off the mark to imagine that this should be catastrophic for her considering all of this. not to mention the fact that she has the opportunity to explore the nature of lyctorhood from this very unique perspective, which is exactly what we saw her doing in harrow the ninth, and which it’s been hinted at she’s been working towards and planning for for much longer

i have the suspicion that in alecto we will see several possible incarnations of successful lyctorhood, and that none of them will be the same. there will not be another paul, but we will see that john was even more wrong than possibly even he realized

we even know that paul is not a “perfect” lyctor. perhaps such a thing doesn’t even exist, but there is absolutely no reason palamedes sextus in all of his genius and all of his sentimentality would say he and camilla hect’s final form was “almost perfect,” even in spite of their "perfect love" and "perfect friendship," if he didn’t really mean that

this also brings us back to the question of anastasia and samael. what exactly did they do? people have been theorizing for a while that that may have been perfect lyctorhood, and i don’t think we can entirely rule that out yet. but even if it’s not that, their results threatened john’s narrative and his sense of control enough that he could not abide their continued existence, so it’s still a really important piece of this puzzle

*not downplaying harrow’s trauma at (temporarily?) losing gideon, just think it’s worth distinguishing from the form that typical lyctoral trauma takes

Listen. The chapter isn't even done yet. I just started writing it. So dialogue may very well change. But damn was this an image my very soul needed me to draw.

Here's the snippet!

“Uh… I don’t… think they’re even in that kind of relationship to begin with…” That was a mental image Kagome definitely did not need. But, then again, Irene did seem to really like Sesshōmaru. Kagome couldn’t deny that. It was just Sesshōmaru himself that was the problem. “She likes him, but he’s… not the kind of person to fall for someone.”

“But he sounds as if he’s head over heels for her.” Eri pointed out. “Forget whether or not he might be the head of a mafia group- if he saved her from being killed, then found her each time she was kidnapped, despite never going out of his way for anyone and despite being a total villain like you said, then clearly there’s something there. He has to feel something to let himself go out of his way for her. Right?”

Kagome was stunned. “Uh… I mean… yeah. Yeah, you’re right.”

Huh.

Kagome picked up her soda and took another long sip, furrowing her brows as she thought about this. Could Sesshōmaru have feelings for Irene?

Maybe.

Guess I’ll find out the next time I see him.

If he truly went out of his way to rescue her from Naraku’s clutches, then Ayumi and Eri were right- something was there. If he went out of his way to use even the tenseiga which he hates so much to bring her back to life, then… Sesshōmaru truly cares for her.

But Irene isn’t from the Feudal Era. She was just like Kagome, hailing from a time far in the future. After Anastasia is defeated… she’ll probably be separated from him.

Kagome might not ever see Irene again, either.

Not unless she finds me in her time, and that’s…

That’s assuming Kagome doesn’t have to make a choice to stop traveling between eras herself.

“I just hope we see her again soon.” She sighed, hanging her head dejectedly. “The last time anyone saw her was when Sesshōmaru saved her from her kidnappers. Since she left with him, no one’s seen her. He's the only one who could keep her alive at this point, but with how he is... who knows?”

Yuka and Eri were utterly convinced now that this older brother of Kagome’s supposedly bad boy boyfriend was the leader of a criminal organization, and they could only imagine what it must have looked like as this “Sesshōmaru” rescued the young woman from her kidnappers, before stealing her away for himself so her life would no longer be threatened. Ayumi, on the other hand, was utterly enamored by the visual in her mind, giggling and smiling to herself as she imagined a dashing man in white bravely rescuing his lover.

“Kagome…” The girl blinked and looked up, sweat beading nervously down her cheek when she saw the concerned stare Eri was giving her.

Yuka frowned. “Tell us as soon as you find out what’s happened, okay? This sounds serious! He saved her from her kidnappers, just to kidnap her himself!? He’s worse than a psycho! He's... He's absolutely nuts!"

“Total villain was right.” Eri huffed, referencing Kagome’s earlier description. “That poor woman deserves better than to be held hostage by the man she likes.”

Ayumi laughed and waved a hand at the two girls. “Aw, you guys are over thinking it! Isn’t it obvious what happened?”

Yuka, Eri, and Kagome all blinked, staring at the curly-haired, innocently smiling Ayumi.

She held a finger up knowingly. “They eloped!”

Kagome’s forehead never hit the tabletop so hard in her life. She all but shot up onto her feet, slamming her hands down on the wood as she shrieked, “They’re not together! Sesshōmaru would never love a human!”

Anastasia!Lucemond (the musical) where Aemond is Gleb and Lucerys is Anastasia. Aemond is the dutiful son of the Greens, a few years back the Greens successfully wipes out the Blacks, Aegon II is the king and Otto Hightower served as his Hand until his untimely death. Now, Aemond is the Hand but when rumours of the last surviving Black prince arise, he decides to personally investigate it himself and kill off the people who started such rumours.

It was not possible, all of them had been killed. Rounded up and burned by Vhagar’s fire. Aemond himself had killed Prince Lucerys, his ancient dragon eating both dragon and dragonrider.

Lucerys, who did survive Storm’s End but forgot everything, is desperate to leave Westeros for Essos because of this unexplainable fear of the Targaryen royalty. Saera Targaryen hears about the rumours and is interested in meeting this prince, thus she declares that anyone who brings the prince to her will be greatly rewarded. A declaration that reached Westeros through rumours which inevitably reached Aemond.

With his investigation, the intel of two common folks journeying from King’s Landing to Essos with the rumoured Black prince catches his attention. Imagine Aemond’s fury at the discovery that someone has been pretending to be Prince Lucerys.

Lucerys is out here living his best life with two new friends, convinced that he could be this lost prince and is looking forward to spending the rest of his life with an estranged aunt in Essos. If it was in a brothel then who was Lucerys to judge? When Aemond finds him, only a day away from meeting this run-away Targaryen princess turned whore, to his shock he finds out that the rumours were true.

“Still/The Neva Flows (Reprise)” except instead of Gleb trying to convince Anya from revealing herself as Anastasia, Aemond is trying to convince himself to kill Lucerys for retribution, for his actions and the actions of the Blacks, while Lucerys owns up to his real identity and bravely stands up against Aemond. Lucerys dares Aemond to kill him, to finally finish off the Blacks and to get the justice that he had spent the entirety of his life obsessing over.

After the war, the Targaryens have all but dwindled to three. Aegon, who was sitting on his throne wasting away, his near-to-death niece Jaehera, and Aemond. Cue Unhinged!Aemond who makes up his mind about bringing Lucerys back to the Red Keep and make the young prince his wife. With Lucerys and their future children, they could bring the Targaryen name back to its full glory and bring in a new era of dragons.

It ends with Lucerys unwillingly wedded to Aemond. When Aegon and Jahaera die, only a few days apart, Aemond ascends the throne and sitting right beside him is Lucerys, his queen and the mother of his children.

Another beautiful drawing made for me by @rolkstone, who also took the time to write this amazing little snippet of story to go with it! Please go give them a follow, it would mean the world to me! <3 The story is loosely based off The Little Mermaid as you will see in a moment. ❝The sun never felt so warm as it did then, streaming down in beams onto Gadget’s skin -- or rather, scales. They shimmered, and he could easily get lost staring at his own magnificent tail, the complex patterns in the colors and scales seeming to take a life of their own. He could have sworn that dark patch was a half inch to the right last time… In any case, his ponderings were interrupted by much more important thoughts: her. She was a clownfish merfolk, and adorned with her own beautiful patterns, but it was her radiant smile and infectious energy he kept thinking about. Just thinking about possibly talking to her again made his lips stretch into a reflexive smile, and he felt giddy.

But he couldn’t just rest; his future with Gizmo was at stake. It was easier than he thought getting along with her even though he couldn't speak. She never judged or looked down on him for that, and he didn't mind her speaking for him when it was appropriate. He was new to this world she was so savvy at exploring, after all. There were times when he was glad he couldn't take, because in his excitement his mind raced and he’d wanted to say all kinds of things. But Gizmo knew what to say, and the two seemed to be developing a conversational style with just their eyes and body language anyway. It wasn’t exactly the same as speech, but Gadget felt more and more comfortable giving Gizmo a look or a gesture and knowing she’d probably get the gist of it.

He could almost laugh to himself at the sea monster Anastasia’s expense. She probably thought this was far too difficult for him to overcome, that he’d surely lose and become one of her collection. But even as he wanted to laugh, his heart began to speed up as he realized he should take this seriously. Just as serious as the fact that it was harder to breathe out on the surface now. Lying on his side in the brilliant sun, Gadget felt inspired yes, but also like he was drying up, and his chest was getting extremely heavy. He rolled off the pier to get himself in the water as fast as possible and stretched out in grateful relief. He examined his hands and the webbing between his fingers, making swimming so much easier and fast; not to mention that powerful tail. He twirled and did somersaults in the water for the joy of it, but he didn’t forget his mission. He was nervous, he was expected to guide another’s heart into falling for his, after all. And if he failed, he’d be stuck in not this wonderful body, but in that of an actual goldfish. And then what chance would he have at a life with Gizmo? He sped through the water towards where he hoped she’d be: there was a shipwreck nearby, a rather new one, and it contained fascinating artifacts and hopefully some scientific materials. He grinned as he imagined being her assistant again today, not speaking with words, but sharing so much with Gizmo.❞

this is brigitte--margarethe's third and youngest daughter. way back in the day, i'm talking 2015, i had a follower who preferred to remain anonymous who would send me messages as gitte, a character of their own invention. they even had a blog for her briefly! unfortunately we fell out of touch, as that's the nature of the medium, but i have such a soft spot for this character!

brigitte is somewhat younger than anastasia and drisella, not even really a preteen when the events of the movie take place, and she's much closer to her mother than either of her elder sisters. margarethe's third pregnancy was much easier, less physically debilitating, and less emotionally painful than her first two, and she bonded very readily with infant brigitte in a way she never did with ana and drisella. she and brigitte are comfortable and loving with each other and physically affectionate (on their own terms--like 1 hug a day) and margarethe is patient with her in ways she never could be with her other children.

i imagine this is brigitte as she is post-movie, some 10-15 years in the future, living with her mother in the netherlands. anastasia and drisella will have married by this point, and margarethe, now about 60, is losing her sight. as brigitte grows and naturally becomes more independent and interested in the world, margarethe is growing equally more dependent on her youngest, given her increasing disability as well as the emotional pressures of "losing" all three of her children--in particular, losing her youngest, her favorite. the strain on their bond is new to both of them. as the tension increases, you can imagine how much worse margarethe's behavior gets.

there had been times, that barely felt heavy, in fact as light and unnoticable as the dark hair on your head, tinged in shades of rose and embellished by the feeling of nostalgia. you grow up kind, and you have yet to learn that kindess can sometimes be too much. like holding your favourite cup in your hand, holding onto it so much that it breaks into sharp splinters and you notice you are bleeding.

perhaps it is easy to be as warm as you are. when you have a home where no corner seems unsafe and a family you adore no matter what. the world is showing itself through stories told to be heard in a way meant for a child like you . and somehow it'd continue this way, you're growing but your world isn't . you still believe those stories and you still refuse to see the reality unfolding in front of you. even when you're sent to help injured soldiers, eyes haunted by the war their limbs dragged home . you know things exist that your imagination cannot even grasp and for the first time you're seeking for answers, instead of those who were given to you so easily.

so you find yourself talking to someone, who had experienced the world so differently than you did. and you want to listen . but you catch your heart beating faster whenever he's near you , eyes shifting to the curve of his lips and while you never cared for status at all, suddenly it was all that you see, already painting of what your future was meant to be.

the childish naïvety returns when he tells you he also loves you and your world returns to its dreamlike state. at least everything is possible there and maybe you've allowed yourself to dream for a little too long . euphoria and tiredness seemed to have intoxicated your mind and a confession slipped from your tongue. at first you're horrified but you quickly catch your breath again. after all, you haven't told some stranger about it but your best friend. and friends would never betray each other ? at least in your world.

the following week you get a letter but and you can barely read its content as tears blur your vision . apparently a few words are enough are enough to tell the story of the end of someone's life . the person you've loved for so long. and you wonder if whoever muttered that order also only made use of such little words.

Honestly I was expecting at least one anon to be be like "Seriously?" Cuz way back when I first got into the muppets an anon sent in an ask saying "Can't wait for Muppet Next Gens" and at the time - stupidly - I thought 'Nah it won't get to that point'...and here we are

Jokes aside I'm really happy people seem to like Caleb! Alongside my other Muppet OC Anastasia been chatting a lot about Caleb and his character with buds on discord and he's really growing on me. Best way to describe him in a few short words is no thoughts and vine energy. Floyd and Janice are literally the air I breathe right now in terms of Muppet couples they are so precious, also imagining the band - who respectfully share three braincells between them - tryna babysit this kid is hilarious to me, they probably lost Caleb within the first three minutes of watching him XD

I imagine the band where pretty excited and referred to their kid as their "future band member". Lips and Zoot where prolly the calmest compared to Teeth and Animal (Zoot prolly forgot Janice and Floyd where having a kid lets be honest-). Me and plazer_plex on insta have come up with a few mini headcannons with bby Caleb so I'll dump the ones I can remember off the top of my head here

-Floyd and the rest of the band, Janice not so much, took bets on if Caleb would say ma or pa first. Floyd really wanted it to be pa and Janice really wanted it to be ma, but she didn't really understand how the rest of the band where taking bets. Eventually it was neither, Caleb's first word was snail

-Was a crybaby, he did not like the band at first. The band as fun as they are can probably come off as a bit much for a itty bitty baby so it took a while for Caleb to warm up to them. The only band member he was totally fine with other then his parents was Animal

-Tried to eat things he wasn't supposed to as a baby: flowers, dirt, guitar plectrums, glitter, Teeth's jewellery, Floyd's hat, Floyd's hair. More often then not Floyd or Janice would be prying something away from his grubby little mits he was trying to nom on

-Animal taught him and even encouraged him to do that thing babies do where they bang on pots and pans as if they're drums. Janice and Floyd eventually got Caleb one of those little drum sets for kids so the two would stop making a mess

He has seen hundreds of faces since he's last seen hers. Hers framed with golden brown hair with a tiara sitting proudly amongst the pinned curls, glittering above a crimson gown bearing the Romanov crest. It will always hers that he remembers clearly. Its her eyes that he remembers when he returned to Leningrad to turn in his report to Gorlinsky. Those eyes that asked him 'what will you tell them?' and he knew he wouldn't tell them a damn thing other than '-i was not my father's son after all.'.

Its those eyes that woke him the night after he turned in his report. His thin rough sheets soaked in sweat and he knew. He had to run. He had to defect. A knapsack with precious few valuables and money were all he left with that night in the dark towards an unknown future in an unknown country.

He never imagined he'd see her again some eleven odd years later. She in a nurse's uniform that dredged up old memories of seeing the late tsarina and her eldest daughters in uniforms similar to those during the great war. The first war. He was stationed in the area and headed to the nearest makeshift hospital in the region to check on his men that had been delivered there for treatment. He wasn't supposed to see her again. It felt like it would break some thin fragile piece of glass that was their reality. He had let her go. He knew that in letting go, in the setting free was the acceptance that he'd never see her again. That was part of his punishment. Part of his amends for his actions and that of his father's.

Yet there she stood on the sidewalk adjusting her coat as he crossed the street and paused in the center not daring to take a step closer though the pull in his chest wanted him to break the distance in two easy strides. She had changed, but so had he. Their youth had been ripped from them over the years by time and the war, but she was still beautiful and fair. And those clear blue eyes that haunted him lifted from fixing her coat to meet his eyes.

He remained still on the road that remained thankfully empty at the moment as the close of day weighed in.

"its good to see you again, anastasia." he manages out mustering a tired smile just for her. he can't remember when he smiled last. perhaps it was before this war. or before the one before that. he felt every inch of his forty-one years looking at her now. all he can manage otherwise is a hand extended forward. an open means of showing no harm if the exhaustion on rough features and new uniform don't say otherwise. the same hand he extended to her when they parted ways last those many years ago. long life, comrade. he had said. he had said his goodbyes knowing he'd never see her again.

-still....still he doesn't expect her.

he supposes he never really did. especially now as a soft cry escapes her lips and she crosses the street, her hand brushing away his before her arms wrap around him. suddenly there she is in his arms and he's crying. he didn't expect that either. he didn't expect the salty taste on his lips from his own tears as he holds her close against him hugging the woman who had in a way liberated him in a way he never could for her.

"you're alive." she says and he laughs in a way he thought he forgot how. they pull away slightly though her hands are still holding onto his arms as though he were the one at risk of running away.

"i am." barely, but he was. "you have no idea how good it is to see you."

"i can't believe you're here. i thought-" her voice cracks for a moment and he knows what she thought. that he had died. had been executed on government orders. she had every right to think it. every right to hope for it too after their history. yet here she was with tears shining in beautiful eyes in relief that it hadn't happened.

"i defected shortly after i came back. i knew-" he knew what would come for him on swift winds and unshakeable orders. he fled with nothing, but everything in his heart. "you don't know what its done for my heart to see you again, anastasia."

"-anya." she smiled tilting her head up at him as her golden-brown hair shimmered in the setting sun light. "just anya now. i know who i am and it doesn't change the girl i was for all those years i didn't know."

"i understand." it was ironic really. the inverse of it all. he knew who he was, but yet he didn't know who he, the man, was on his own without his family's name and burden. knowing your family gives you understanding, clarity to aspects of yourself and what shaped you but in the end what truly mattered were your own choices. your decisions and paths. that was who you were. the girl he saw last was much like the woman before him. radiant. confident. born to survive in the worst of times. like now. their world was plunged into a war that had set them on a path to meeting. he a soldier once again and she a nurse. however the children they were are now long gone and all that are left are the weary adults carrying on alone....but she wasn't alone.

"and your young man?" because that was what dmitry sudayev was to him. a young conman trying to find an easier life. he had caught a glimpse at the ballet of how they looked at each other and how dmitry had looked at her. he made careful steps to avoid any reflective surfaces in fear of seeing the same look in his own eyes that night. still he was relieved to see her eyes never waver and her smile not falter for a moment as she showed him a simple band and spoke again warmly. "we got married as soon as we could."

he smiled with a nod. "congratulations then."

a look crossed her features that he didn't quite recognize. it was thoughtful, considerate and debating though that flicker of impetuousness was still there as though the silent war in her mind said to damn the risks. her hands squeezed his arm firmly as those blue eyes searched his then asked him a question. "come to dinner. meet my children."

somehow it was a surprised yet delighted laugh that sounded from him as her hands released him and he ran a hand through his hair. "children? that's wonderful. how many?"

"three, actually." was the warm chirp while he marveled at how happy she seemed despite the obvious tiredness and exhaustion on her shoulders. "two girls and a boy."

he could already picture a child with her eyes. his boot scuffed the street for a moment as he considered the offer before looking to her again concernedly though hopeful.

"will your husband mind? i don't want to-" he gestures emphatically where words fail him. because he doesn't want a scene. he doesn't want to scare the children. he's done with being the nightmare in other's stories. leaving russia was his attempt of shaking off the shadows of his past and starting a new though terrifying as it was. some nights he still thought he saw the bloodstains left on him by his father.

but he let out a shaky sigh as she took his hand again with that determined look. brows set and eyes shimmering while a half smile teased at a smirk. "he will have to get over it. i decide who comes to dinner. besides the children will be excited to actually get meet you."

at that her arm loops with his to drag him down the street as the words settle in his mind.

"you've told them about me?" his words dry and hoarse, now fearful of what might have been said. he knew what he'd say of himself. she had every right to paint him the villain. what he knew now wasn't what he knew then. following orders weren't always the right thing to do. following orders were a poor man's excuse at relieving guilt and responsibility.

again she stopped as a puzzled look crossed her features before she smiled at him again and his heart stopped as she spoke. "of course i did. you saved me. that's what you were always trying to do and you let me go, gleb. at great risk for you. you risked everything. for me. i told them about the good in people and that you're one of the few who proved it."

he wasn't a crier and yet he found himself tearing up again as he tried to swallow it back at hearing those words. "i just wanted you safe. and happy."

and she said the words that eased every tightness in his chest. it chased away the darkness that he carried within him and let light flood in again that he didn't think he could have anymore. "i am."

While Dian Morey, local (former?) doctor and known name around town, has returned to Swynlake, almost a year has passed since his disappearance and the question still remains: Where was he?

The doctor was originally thought to be long gone after the horrible night of the Blackwell Gala. Lives were lost that night and many others injured due, but all were accounted for. Except for one. The Morey family were very vocal about wanting to find the eldest son of the family. They posted on social media and hung up missing persons flyers around town. Supposedly he was still missing for weeks, which then turned into months. There was speculation of what could have happened to him, most fearing the worst as the known doctor was not characterized as someone to pick up and leave without a word to not only his place of work but to his family, which is allegedly very close to one another.

That family being made up of Padme and Rohan Morey, the parents of 7 children:

The eldest, Dian Morey, the subject in question.

Mahzar Morey, a PhD student at Pride University who also teaches Middle Eastern studies. He also has a podcast, Let’s Talk About…

Isaac Morey, a teacher at Swynlake Primary in the nursery.

Elliot Morey, a firefighter for the Swynlake Firebrigade.

Sebastian Morey, who works for the family construction company as an accountant.

Gem Morey also works for the family company as a contractor. He was also in jail previous to his return to Swynlake in August of 2021 after having burned down a section of Swynlake Secondary.

Devyn Morey, an art student at Pride University.

All except Dian were adopted.

After 6 months of Dian Morey being missing he reappeared. On March 27th, 2022 at the opening day of Swynlake’s annual Farmer’s Market the man was spotted approaching his family’s booth. One would suspect that it would have been a joyous occasion to have the long lost brother to have finally returned home. Instead he was greeted with violence. Allegedly Sebastian Morey threw a punch and started a spark. Literally. The pyrokinetic of the family, Gem Morey, then set fire to the family booth. The fire department was quick to put him out and most of the Morey siblings dispersed from the scene.

From this chaotic reintroduction to Swynlake, many would assume that Dian has some sort of feud brewing between himself and the rest of his family. However, recent shocking evidence has come to light pointing not to hatred, but romance at the heart of the mystery of Dr. Morey’s disappearance.

CCTV footage secured from Castle Suites security shows Dian Morey entering and exiting the home of none other than deposed Crown Princess of Avalor, Her Royal Highness Elena Flores. These visits occurred late at night and in the early hours of the morning, and body language analysis has proven the veracity and intensity of this affair. Given the tumultuous nature of the political situation in Avalor, it is unsurprising that Princess Elena and the doctor chose to keep this scandalous affair under wraps, and that Dian Morey chose to disappear altogether.

One may imagine a secluded life for Dian between the months of September 2021 and March 2022, dedicating his life only to his beloved princess. This risky move shows the depths of Dian’s devotion, giving up everything to pursue a woman who stands at the center of war, controversy, and so much personal heartbreak.

As for the future of Dilena, that remains to be seen. Dian’s reemergence into the public eye could indicate a heart-wrenching breakup no doubt fueled by the pressures of Princess Elena’s responsibilities as deposed princess and Dian’s withdrawal from his family and career. Alternately, the couple may have only grown in their devotion to one another, finding even more secret ways to continue their relationship while going about their regular lives. Dian Morey has, after all, remained on sabbatical from his work at Swynlake General Hospital.

19 Takeaways from the Sorwe Employee Experience Summit 2022: Transforming the Employee Experience Inside Out

On 14 October 2022, we held our first in-person event and our second Employee Experience Summit. The SorweEmployee Experience Summit 2022 featured four amazing speakers, people leaders and human resource professionals in person and online. The day featured endless words of wisdom about the theme of Transforming the Employee experience Inside Out. From our London headquarters, our inspirational speakers covered areas about the employee experience.

So, in case you missed it, here are our 19 takeaways from the Sorwe Employee Experience Summit 2022.

Our Speakers

Firstly, we’d like to thank all our speakers for being an essential part of the Summit.

Our keynote speaker, Ben Whitter, Founder of HEX Organization and author, kicked off the day with his expert views on where the employee experience is heading and the six high-priority elements for employee experience success.

Anastasia Kuzmina, VP, HR at Baker Hughes, focused on how we can optimise people processes and use analytics to improve the employee experience.

Tom Probert, Director at BeenThereDoneThat (BTDT), discussed how to spread the culture inside out in a fast-growing business. Tom shared BTDT’s unique model and gave fascinating insights into how to create a strategy to overcome these challenges.

Our final speaker, Ciprian Arhire, Head of People Experience at Entain, shared his views on the employee experience map, how to approach employee experience research and design and how to future-proof the design.

What Important Takeaways Did the Summit Provide?

Here are the key takeaways from the Summit about the employee experience in 2022:

1. Employee experience is gaining recognition - as Whitter said, “It’s started to break into the mainstream thinking now which is a good thing. We couldn’t have imagined the scale and depth of the recognition that is being focused on the employee experience. It’s been accelerated by the pandemic and all the different challenges that we faced over the last two years have literally reshaped our organisations.”

2. What was normal before the pandemic and the employee experience is not normal now - challenges have been accelerated by the pandemic. Whitter said that due to the pandemic, “One in four people have identified an intention to quit their jobs, and one in four are moving away from cities apparently. So, there’s a great level of change within that human experience which is affecting the employee experience.”

3. Every organisation has employee experience – whether it’s accidental, organic or planned and intentional, Arhire said that every organisation has it. And he added that the right people experience strategy is five times more likely to create a sense of belonging and means you retain the right people.

4. Consider what it’s like to be an employee - according to Arhire, we must consider how employees access HR systemsand what it’s like to be an employee within the organisation. And surveys just don’t provide this information. He said we have to step into the shoes of employees as end users and “Improve their experience bottom up.”

5. Keeping up with expectations – we need to be constantly looking at new employee expectations and meet the expectations not only today but also tomorrow. Whitter said, “Change is happening at a pace that is hard to keep up with; we’re already behind the expectations of tomorrow.”

He adds that forcing people to commute or do nine-to-five jobs they don’t like doesn’t help productivity, and we need to question that as employers. We must move to new ways of working and focus on new pressures and expectations.

6. Assess where you’re at – you need to understand your current employee experience before you can plan or initiate change. Arhire said that you should assess what might be happening in the organisation that may not be landing right. You need to explore different areas and then prototype and interrogate.

He added that you also need to look at the type of organisation you currently are, rather than the organisation you want to be in the future.

7. Consider social justice issues – Whitter said that as individuals are changing the way they live, employers need to understand environmental and social justice concerns as, “If there’s an issue in society, then does it affect your employees? Absolutely.” He added that three pillars (people, planet and performance) will be essential to help us accelerate and connect with our people in ways we haven’t done in the past.

8. Change is the only constant – according to Kuzmina change is guaranteed wherever you work, so you have to adapt to change and give your people and leaders what they need. She said that you may need to change your organisational or HR model to adjust to change and you must design your processes and systems based on the outcome of your persona groups.

9. Consider what you expect from people – it can be easy to go on with roles or job titles that have always existed in your organisation. However, you may need to step back and assess these. For example, Kuzmina said that at Baker Hughes, they moved away from the concept of manager and now call such individuals People Leaders as “We’re not there to manage someone’s performance, but we are there to lead them.”

10. Purpose, values and mission are vital - Whitter said that we know from a huge Harvard survey that purpose is essential in an organisation as it uplifts everything; the meaning of work, performance, and productivity. But it doesn’t stand alone; you need a great mission and set of values to stand beside the purpose. If the organisation doesn’t buy into their purpose or values or they’re not lived by the organisation, then it doesn’t matter.

Kuzmina also agreed with the importance of values in the employee experience, “Values are so key to what any organisation does.” If you say care is one of your values, you need to show it.

11. Consider other issues individuals have – it’s not just because of the pandemic that employees have other issues to deal with outside work. For example, parental responsibilities or being a carer are all real concerns that individuals face while employed. But it’s how employers manage these situations.

According to Arhire we should be “Stepping in the shoes of our people and walking through what’s happening in day-to-day lives.”

Whitter said, “Imagine if your employer was not supportive of personal situations. Would you check out or quietly quit?” He added that you would probably start by checking out and believing that your employer did not care about you, so why should you care about them?

Whitter used the example of Ford as a caring employer who put in the effort during the pandemic to support it’s people. He said that for manufacturing employees, they designed and created a welcome back to work experience for employees returning to the workplace to reduce and manage anxiety and ease them back. And that’s what makes a huge difference to engagement and the employee experience because sometimes you just need support and trust from your employer and help for a long-term commitment.

12. Involve stakeholders – Arhire said that you should involve stakeholders in the employee experience approach to discuss and define what the problems are and what you are trying to solve.

13. Ensure differentiation – you can’t expect to blend in with your competitors or other organisations and still provide the best employee experience for your people. According to Whitter, you need to stand out, and he believes you need to differentiate yourself “As opposed to doing a vanilla employee experience.” Instead, you need to decipher what resonates with people about your brand and why people choose you.

Kuzmina echoed this sentiment as she said that it is essential to differentiate, “It is so important to think about the multiple different employee groups that you have in your organisation and what is the employee experience for them?” She added that you have to consider what the employee experience really is and she said she has looked at different persona groups and how you align processes to what you are trying to deliver.

14. You need great leaders – you have the best facilities for your people or great perks, but none of this is important without a great leader. As Whitter said, “If you have a poor leader, it makes no sense. We have to take care of leadership. We have to look at the structure around HR and support services if we’re going to design an end-to-end experience that delivers tangible results.”

Kuzmina also discussed the concept of leaders as she said, “We can design the most amazing experience, but if the leader doesn’t talk to their people or discuss their career development, or if they don’t coach or mentor them or engage with them, then the employee experience is not there.”

15. HR does not own the employee experience – it’s easy (and common) to assume that HR owns the employee experience. However, this is shortsighted and such an ideal will ensure that the employee experience in your organisation fails, As Whitter told us, the business owns the employee experience. The business must take full accountability for it and ensure that HR is not blamed if it is not successful.

Kuzmina also said that the employee experience “Is not just an HR piece, it’s a holistic approach as a business. The more your CEO can talk about the employee experience, the better it is.”

And Arhire also discussed the ownership of the employee experience. He said it sometimes feels like it’s HR’s role and they should roll it out as an HR initiative, but, “It needs to be initiated by the CEO, supported the people team, technology and workplace team, driven by line managers and championed by everyone.”

16. There are many different aspects of the employee experience – Arhire said that a definition he liked was the employee experience is “The totality of perceptions that people are having around their workplace.” He added that this could be how people interact with each other or the relationship they have with technology, but essentially, it’s about how they reflect the culture in their day-to-day lives. It’s different to engagement as the employee experience is the everyday interactions.

17. Employee engagement is not limited to the organisation – Arhire told us that the employee experience lives with us inside and outside of work as we take a lot of the organisation and the experience there into our daily lives.

18. Think about employees as customers – Kuzmina said that while it would be great to be able to combine everything from your first day in the organisation to help employees onboard, there is no single HR solution. So, at Baker Hughes, they have an HR portal to solve as many of the new starter queries as easily as possible to try to avoid overwhelm. It’s about treating employees like the customer and improving the customer experience.

Therefore, the employee experience is also about making life easier for employees (just like we use Amazon or Uber to make life easier for us).

19. Overcome cultural challenges - Probert said that culture is a crucial part of making sure that everyone is heading in the right direction and there’s a risk in a network-based business model like BTDT that it becomes highly transactional without the space for people to talk to each other. He discussed the idea of creating a community, not a network and said, “The risk is that people feel a sense of place and not a sense of desire and passion for interacting.”

He believes there are specific ways to overcome culture challenges, spread the culture inside out and build a sense of community to improve the employee experience:

Ideal Conditions – you must create the ideal conditions for colleagues, community and customers to thrive and to encourage psychological safety. Probert said, “How do we achieve psychological safety in an environment where people are working anywhere in the world? Psychological safety is the crucial focal point for our culture.”

He added that they focus on products and processes to create a sense of community. They codify everything to help to achieve this and the customer experience that a community member has if they interact with the platform will be the same. He said that this helps to create psychological safety and a sense of belonging.

Cognitive Diversity – employers should harness the power of diversity to create a growth mindset and culture of innovation. Probert suggested the book Rebel Ideas, by Matthew Syed. He added that “People in organisations can feel on their own as a result of displaced working and this is a really powerful to unite people and bring them together.”

Common Language – organisations need to be consistent in their approach, with a business point of view; consider what you believe in and what is unique to your business. In reality, this means having one viewpoint, start point, mission and focal point.

Finger on the pulse - when you’re operating at high speed and people are displaced, you need to look out for your people as it’s easy to focus solely on delivery. AT BTDT they carried out a survey to gather data to empower cultural decision-making.

Sense of belonging - when there is no home, you need to create one. Probert said they have used the Sorwe platform to create a place specifically to focus on people, reward and recognition. He said about Sorwe, “It’s made a big difference to our company to have a space where people can come together and communicate on the things that get lost in the traffic of everything else coming in.” He added that the interaction rates on giving other kudos have been really high.
