The "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series at Disney+ has added an unexpected pick to its growing cast.
The new live-action series is based on the hugely successful novels from author Rick Riordan of the same title. We will be seeing YN LN join the series as Rina Velasco, one of the supporting characters of the show.
LN's Rina Velasco is referred to as "the offspring of The Muses, goddesses of the sciences and the arts." Unlike most other demigods, she is born out of the artistic and scientific output of the muses. When the moral ingenuity of humans meets the divine musings of The Muses. Her character is described as a unique allrounder who becomes a mentor figure to our main cast as they embark on their journey.
This will be LN's first on-screen role of her career. LN's experience mostly lies in Broadway, she is known for playing Kim in the Miss Saigon revival on Broadway. LN was nominated for a Tony in 2022 for the same role. She is repped by Salonga/Chien Entertainment and B817 Agency.
Riordan posted on the Meta app, Threads, about this update to the casting saying: "YN was one of the actors we didn't expect to see a tape of but when we saw it, we couldn't help but fall in love with her. She embodies the spirit of Rina so well and is such a kind spirit, we can't wait for you to fall in love with her too! Welcome to the cast, YN!"
The live-action show is based on Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson book series. It tells the fantastical tale of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod (Scobell), who's just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover (Simhadri) and Annabeth (Jeffries), Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.
Production on the show is now underway in Vancouver. Riordan and Jon Steinberg are writing the pilot with James Bobin directing. Steinberg and his producing partner Dan Shotz are overseeing the series and serve as executive producers alongside Bobin, Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Anders Engström, Jet Wilkinson, and Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg. 20th Television is the studio. Salke was formerly the president of Touchstone Television and originally put the show into development.

A/N i truly hope you guys can forgive the horrible editing in the pictures. the article portion is based on (and has some parts that are directly pulled from) this article from variety ! here's some succint information about rina velasco, the PJO character YN LN plays (and is my childhood OC!) - rina velasco, filipino, 18 years old (year younger than luke) - she's an offspring of the muses, not directly a child or daughter, though she may be referred as such - by her being an offspring of the muses, i mean that she was born in the same way athena's children are born. - but in rina's case she's more like a weird conglomeration of each muse. her birth is a rare event, but her mothers are honored as minor goddesses so she stayed in the apollo cabin (connection to music) - rina operates as a guidance figure for the main trio, especially annabeth - she's also luke's love interest, there's a lot of tragicness and doomed romance stuff with those two - and for the sake of everyone, we pretend like the weird i love you from the books didn't happen !

Alyson Shotz’s “Nautical Charts – Gowanus & Red Hook from 1733-1922; Fathom Points + Compass Bearings” (2013) at Smith-9 St (F,G) station in #Brooklyn uses the local maritime history of the surrounding communities to create a series of windows and large wall mosaic. In the station’s mezzanine level on the journey to the platform, 26 windows etched with silver reflective ink in layers of glass depict historic nautical maps. Dated from the 1700’s to 1900’s, the maps illustrate the changes in the Red Hook and Gowanus waterfronts over time.
At the station's entrance on 9th Street, four large transom windows are etched with what looks at first like an elegant line drawing, but is actually the plan of a boat hull built in Brooklyn around 1770. The rear wall of the station building also appears to be an abstract line drawing, created in stainless steel against a vivid blue tile mosaic background. As one moves closer, it is revealed as a nautical map, with numbers for depth and letters for directions.
Shotz’s solo exhibition “Alloys of Moonlight” at Derek Eller Gallery continues the artist’s investigation into the mysteries of the natural world and the forces that shape reality. On view through March 18th.

WEEK 1 - Iteration from Task 1
PROCESS
I cut a 45cm piece of soft thick wire and experimented with shaping it around a crystal ball. I coiled the wire around the sphere becoming very intensional of the space and how it may envelop the field in between creating a sense of a continuous motion.
I then placed this artwork into a backdrop using black rubber mats. The contrast of a black background with the reflective shining silver wire and the glass ball enhanced the contour of the sculpture.
The strategy of placing the crystal ball on the ground in the center, allowed the weight of the wire to become the framework for the piece building more central tension to the magnified glass ball.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I then started to place the artwork within various environments such as on top of a rusted steel grid chair, the base of a tree, or inside a running creek. I was trying to find a suitable environment for the artwork to see if it would complement the space and found there was a strong relationship between the reflections off the water in the creek to the translucent crystal glass ball.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
REFLECTION
I reflected on the decisions I made in the process to develop more context for the work.
- The wire was shaped to replicate the curves from the sphere.
- The wire was not fixed to the glass ball instead it was flowing around the piece, respectfully allowing more space in between.
- This suggested that the absence of space in between the wire and glass ball, perhaps contain a magnetic feild of some sort?
- The movement and direction of the wire travel from underneath the glass ball, up and around the coiling to the top directly into the center. It then plunges vertically straight back down into the glass ball giving the illusion that the wire runs through it and loops back around in a continuous motion.

The History of Timbiriche: Nueva Juarez (pt. 1)
Tumblr media
Nueva Juarez total population: 90 sims, 46 families.
This is the oldest part of Nueva Juarez, known as "Old Juarez", this section of the city contains the few remaining structures that were not destroyed in the war.
Tumblr media
The large black house is the home of Julien Cooke. Beside it to the left is a cemetery. Across the street the purple house is now a fortune telling business owned by Cleo, also a pre-war building. The rest of the buildings are post-war residences and businesses. Across the street to the left of Cleo's Fortune Telling business is an art museum and The Pizza Bowl, beside it to the right is a house currently being rented by the members of NJZ48 and a film/photography studio which is a low budget alternative to Xuxa Productions Studio and Nueva Juarez Studios.
Tumblr media
This street contains mostly townhouses and apartments, although to the far right is a white house with a grey roof known as Rosebush Manor. This pre-war house is now an underground party scene containing a lot of orgy rugs, stripper poles, sparkling juice bars and plenty of bubble blowing machines. The building at the corner is Lucky Shack Cards & Drink, a popular blue collar bar, and above it is the Nueva Juarez Fire Station.
Notable residents of this neighbourhood: all NJZ48 active members, Xavier & Johnny, Mary-Kate Olsen.
Tumblr media
Further up the street is mostly apartments, although the grey and black building beside the white apartment is P3 (formerly Quake), a nightclub and performance venue owned by Timbiriche resident Piper Halliwell.
Notable residents of this neighbourhood: Cleo, Erin Momsen, Channel Robinson (Nueva Juarez's first transwoman), Terri Shields (mother of Brooke), Melissa Aznario (daughter of Mayor Aznario and black sheep of the family).
Tumblr media
At the end of the street is a bridge and subway line leading out of the city. At the bottom of the hill is Shotz Stadium, still containing the stage from when NJZ48 recently performed their second concert there. At the top of the hill is the neighbourhood known as Bronx Street.
Tumblr media
This neighbourhood is mostly home to low income families, although it also includes the salon business "Curl Up and Dye".
Notable residents: Snoop Dog, the Half-Baked household, Rose Polniaczek (Jo's mother), Damian Cross (friend of Jo and member of the YUNG DIABLO§ street gang), and leader of the YUNG DIABLO§ and notorious criminal, Tyrone Marshall (+ wife & baby).
Tumblr media
A more upscale part of the neighbourhood. This includes a McDonalds restaurant and Temple Subway Station, named in honour of the former child actress who participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the subway station. I used to have a Shirley Temple sim in Timbiriche who I had to delete after my latest game bug corrupted all the children sims.
Notable residents of this neighbourhood: actress Kyla Pratt, Frank DeFazio (owner of the Pizza Bowl), Kiyoni Brown, the parents of Tootie Ramsey.
Tumblr media
Up the street we make our way in to the downtown core. Notable businesses in this area are the wedding chapel (white building on the left with a large parking lot) and the Xuxa Productions Office (the pyramid shaped tall building to the right).
Tumblr media
An overview of downtown Nueva Juarez. The lot with a pond is Central Park, the only park in Nueva Juarez and a popular outing destination. Across the street above it is a Hot Topic and H&M, across the street to the left is Cold Issue Clothing and beside that is The Row, a boutique owned by my Olsen Twin sims. Across from it is a nightclub and Sabon Spa, named for the Sabon bath products which I love but can never afford lol.
Tumblr media
More businesses. The large building bottom right is city hall, base of operations for Mayor Aznario. Beside it to the left is the police station and the wedding chapel, across the street above it is a shopping centre and a casino/restaurant/nightclub. Across the street to the left is the Meneghel Theatre, above it is Bella Noche's nightclub. Down the street is the Bumstead Arms apartment and two resturants, and behind it is a large condo.
Notable residents of this neighbourhood: Yuko Sugamoto (ex-NJZ48), Geri Warner (comedienne and member of the wealthy Warner family), actor Zack Bryan and Mitzi Green, mother of Natalie.
Part 2 coming soon!

• So put me anywhere • Just put Your glory in me • And I'll serve anywhere • Just let me see Your beauty • “It shall come about, if you listen obediently and pay attention to My commandments which I command you today—to love the Lord your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul [your choices, your thoughts, your whole being] that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early [fall] rain and the late [spring] rain, so that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your [olive] oil.”- Deuteronomy 11:13 ✨ Choose to love Him above all else even when it’s hard, even when we’re driven by feelings and emotions that are flaky. Choose to obey Him and abundantly surrender everything into His hands, remembering that He moves in unexpected ways. Trust His commands as the season approaches. It may not always be what it seems but trust Him that He loves you more than you know and knows exactly what you need when you need it. How Luke Arnold went from pirate to author to Home and Away
Mediaweek Original by Trent Thomas
Tumblr media
“2020 wasn’t the ideal year to be a debuting author let alone putting two books out”
Actor Luke Arnold first became known to Australians on a main stream scale when he portrayed Michael Hutchence in the mini-series INXS: Never Tear Us Apart. Arnold then went on to gain international recognition as a lead on the US drama Black Sails.
2020 was a busy year for Arnold who released his first novel titled The Last Smile in Sunder City followed by his second novel Dead Man In A Ditch later in the same year.
Mediaweek spoke to Arnold about life as an author as well as his career as an actor including his return to Aussie screens through Home and Away.
When we spoke with the actor, he was in the middle of a tour with the pop culture expo Supanova, which has since been delayed. Arnold said that he had relished the opportunity to connect with fans of his work, especially considering he hadn’t done many expos like this before.
“I never did any of these before. There was one time that Zach McGowan, who played Vane on Back Sails, and I did a little signing in San Diego [for Comic-Con] one year, but that was just an excuse to be there for the party.
“But now doing Supanova in the Gold Coast and Melbourne I am really loving it, it’s such a great community with the guests, the fans and all the other creative people there. And I am straddling the two worlds now being there as both an actor and as a writer.
It is the first time I can really hang out with other authors because my books came out last year and I didn’t get to do the events I had planned. This was my first time getting to go out with my books and meet some fans of the acting and some fans of the writing.”
Luke Arnold: Author
The year 2020 saw Arnold release not one but two fiction novels and Arnold said that he is enjoying juggling being an emerging author and continuing his acting career.
“2020 wasn’t the ideal year to be a debut author let alone putting two books out in the one year, but going back and forth between acting and writing I have been enjoying it a lot. I am lucky enough that jobs are coming in and I work steadily but there is always a gap between things. I finished a job in Sydney a couple of weeks ago, and my next one is not for a couple of months so it’s the perfect time to get some writing done.”
Arnold said that it is hard to know how the books are going because it’s a world that he does not have much experience in, but he is optimistic about the process so far.
“People seem to be buying them, liking them, and we are editing the third book in the series now and there are plans to keep doing more so fingers crossed it turns out all right.”
Tumblr media
Two books in one year are rare from a writer and Arnold said not to expect that level of volume from him again, but one book a year may be possible.
“From the point I finished the first one to when we got it out, that took quite a while so that’s why I was able to follow up the first one so quickly.
“While we were working out the release of the first one, the different countries and how that was being handled I had time to really run ahead with the second. I definitely won’t be putting out two books every year as an ongoing routine! Maybe one book a year is probably doable, and I think that routine I can keep up depending on how I balance that with the acting.”
Luke Arnold on Black Sails
Arnold is best known to American audiences for his work on Black Sails, Arnold described the role as a dream job.
“It was the perfect job in so many ways. When you sign on for anything you never know what it is going to be.
You might get the pilot script or maybe a couple of scripts but even if that is good you don’t know what the actors will be like, or the directors will be like or where you will be living. There is this gamble that happens every time especially when you sign a multiyear contract, and with Black Sails I couldn’t have hoped for anything better.”
Tumblr media
Arnold said that the show continued to improve each season because there was a clear idea of what they were trying to achieve.
“No one quite knows what type of show you’re going to be in at the start, and they have different ideas, as actors you are looking to your directors and show runners and producers trying to work out what it is meant to be according to them.
We came back for season two knowing what the show was now, when you start a show there is sometimes that feeling of too many cooks in the kitchen, but by then we knew.”
The series was filmed in South Africa which Arnold also credited with helping improve the quality of the performances.
“Over time our cast really galvanised. One of the blessings, when you work on the other side of the world, is that all you can do is focus on the job and really commit to it. It was like we were developing a play for four years with that level of rehearsal.”
Tumblr media
Arnold said that another reason the show continued to improve after season one was that they were able to have more sets to play with.
“At that point we had one and a half ships and the town and it was like ‘okay you pretty much have to do all your story on these sets because it cost us a lot of money and that’s what it is’.
Then at the beginning of season two the world starts opening up and we begin to see different places and characters start to go off on their own adventures and that really helped shaped where the show was going.
By the time we were in season four we were spread all across the world, building sets just to see them once before we blow them up, setting ships on fire and hunting sharks, the scope of the show became quite mammoth by the end.”
Treasure Island?
With Black Sails being a prequel to the famed Treasure Island story, Arnold said that he wouldn’t rule out reprising the character of John Silver in the original tale.
“I reckon we need to let John Steinberg, Dan Shotz and Robert Levine do another couple of projects and then maybe we all come back and do that next adventure.”
Home and Away
Most actors do a show like Home and Away before going to Hollywood but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Arnold did it the other way around with a turn as Dr. Lewis Hayes on the Aussie soap.
“2020 for me was meant to be a bit of a world-wide book tour. I was in LA doing some stuff there and preparing for the book tour and that got scuppered and I found myself back in Australia.
Tumblr media
“I think Home and Away and Neighbours were the only things shooting in Australia. They called me up, and I guess that I have an existing relationship with Seven because I played Michael Hutchence in Never Tears Us Apart. When it came up, I was like that is something that I have never done before and is an Australian staple.
“It is the type of show where you make so much TV every week and everyone is working really hard, and it was in the back of my head a good way to let people know that I am back in town and might be around for things.”

City Hall through the centuries!
Milwaukee has seen a lot of new development and renovation over the past few years, but some things, like City Hall, remain consistent city icons.
Did you know that the Milwaukee City Hall building is a National Historic Landmark? Above, you can see a photograph of the building during its construction in 1895 as well as a photograph of the building taken in the 1950s when Milwaukee hosted a convention for the Public Works Association.
The earlier photo was digitized from a book titled Art Work of Milwaukee for the ‘Milwaukee Neighborhoods’ digital collection, the later photograph was found in the Walter M. Swietlik Papers (UWM Manuscript Collection 242).
Some may recognize this iconic building because it appeared on national television from 1976 to 1980 in the opening of Laverne & Shirley. The ABC sitcom ran for eight seasons. The first five seasons followed the lives of two roommates in 1950s Milwaukee who worked at the fictional Shotz Brewery as bottle-cappers.
Do any of our followers have pictures of this historic building to share?

“Relationship status: Unknown”
After last week’s intense and thrilling outing, Legacies doesn’t back down and delivers another emotionally charged and story progressive outing. Everything that they´ve build up to is finally unfolding and it gets into Heartbreak High teritory. Episode 14 was directed by Geoff Shotz and written by Sherman Payne
MG continues to intrigue and develops as a character, as the label of killer stuck quite fast after the events of last week. Still, this episode provides quality material and keeps his story well layered. Quincy Fouse is tapping deep and enjoys the material he is getting in the last two outings.
Tumblr media
Roman’s return puts some strings up on Hopdon/Lope’s relationship but not really in the way everyone is expecting it to be. Roman didn`t age well despite his immortality yet his role in this outing is a major TVD call back. The chemistry with Hope is strong and the people don’t really have to have seen The Originals to understand who he is, it’s explained multiple times. A surprisingly powerful interaction unravels as Lizzie and Hope spend more time together in preparation for the Miss Mystic Fall pageant. The developments of the Spring Break episode put a new nice twist on the relationship between Hope and Lizzie and it works really well.
Tumblr media
And while the Lizzie-Hope stuff gets into unfamiliar pleasant territory, the sisterly bond between Lizzie and Josie is put on a major test again. But before that story unwraps Josie and Penelope are all kinds of hot and cute. The amount of focus these two get this week is what we deserved all along. No Josie-Raf stuff or anything else. Josie and Penelope are the right deal and their scenes are electrifying. Penelope forces herself to Josie as her pageant escort and somehow it is everything I ever wanted it to be. Penelope gives so much to Josie this week, you guys can`t even imagine how much. Yet, Penelope`s frustration with Josie`s behavior pushes her into a rough state of mind and results in her stirring some unexpected trouble.
Other Tidbits: - No Raf and no Caleb this week. - The Monster of the Week is a good one and the character that interacts it the most benefits from this story a lot. - The Episode ends with several twists and revelations spiking up tension ahead of the final two episodes.
In true Julie Plec fashion this episode sets up a lot of stuff for the final couple of episodes and put all relationships into an unknown status. What are you expecting from the outing? Don`t forget to tune into the episode live or via CW app. Till we meeet again.
