pov: you’re scarlett johansson’s wife // sfw headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
scarlett knows you’re in love with New York and despite having drivers that can easily bring you to one side to another of the city, she knows you prefer taking the subway. you’re favourite is the Q train where you can see the best landscapes as it’s an open train space. your wife always makes sure to pick up a spot by the door, she always says “i want to see that beautiful smile on your face the whole ride” and as you watch the train going from Manhattan to Brooklyn, scarlett wraps an arm around your waist and looks up at you with pure love.
scarlett loves how you adore your county despite its bad sides. you’re here for work so you don’t go back home as much as you would want. the last time was at christmas two years ago with all the family. little pieces of your culture are spread in the house tho, through the food, the flag you hung in your home office, some products you buy at the authentic drug stores owned by people of your home-country. you also started to teach the kids your childhood traditions, your favourite meals, your native language even. sometimes you go out in typical restaurants, or the one that claims to be typical when they’re not, and your wife has to listen you ramble about how they couldn’t make a simple dish of your land and instead ruined it. “can you believe baby? they ruined it, look at this: chicken. why? there’s no chicken in the original recipe and yet i see chicken here, why you americans put chicken everywhere?” scarlett would laugh and sometimes record your little grumbles. the kids loves when you, their mama, cook home land dishes of a culture they’re starting to feel like theirs. your wife loves when your accent rolls off your tongue when you’re tired or pissed, sometimes even when you two fuck roughly; it send her over the edge in no time. however the thing she likes the most is when you speak in your native language giving her or the kids pet names or when you whisper “i love you.”
you’re the biggest supporter ever. the way your eyes shine when you stand beside scarlett at movies premiers, it’s unmatched. you always buzz around your wife when she’s being prepared by make-up and hair-stylists taking extra time to snap some phots of her proudly. you make sure her dress is always perfect and adjust it often during the carpet. you make sure scarlett is always hydrated, not only with alcohol but with water too!, and fed because these things are stressful and your lady has to be healthy. you step back when she poses for paparazzi photos even tho she insists to have you beside her, she would softly place her hand on your chest clothed by the black jacket and shares smiles and little whispers. “you’re so beautiful, baby” or “i can’t take my eyes off you” these are the words that you find to whisper to her in that moments when your eyes are glued to her form, your hand gently cradles her back. you in the end step back giving your wife the deserved moment in the shiny flashes of the photographer’s bulbs, she poses and you look at her, sometimes you would snap a few picture too of her beside the paparazzi. scarlett would peck your lips amidst the event, they reassure you like a warm blanket and she softly pass her slender fingers to wipe her lipstick off your lips. you watch the movie with rapt attention because despite everything, before meeting her, you were and are a fan of her movies. in the end you always hug her and pepper her lips and cheeks whispering “congratulations my love, you were brilliant!”, “i can feel the oscar baby, can i start your campaign now?”, “i’m so incredibly proud of you, you’re a movie star” or “look at that baby, they’re all clapping and cheering for you, you’re so inspiring.” at the after party you both dance, engage in conversation with people and sometimes only seat at the bar together. you make sure to drink only safe drinks and let your wife party as she deserve. you take care of her and by the end of the night she’s not much sober but you steady her holding by her waist, your suit jacket always ready to shield the woman from the cold gently rest on her shoulders and her heels accomodate your feet while she wears you’re much more comfortable shoes.
scarlett started a skin care brand line with her friend and co-founder, kate foster. you, despite not knowing a thing about skin care, started to be supportive since the first day. however you didn’t know your wife would make you be a tester. you forgot how many times you ran around the house to dodge her “c’mon baby let’s try this eye cream, i swear it will be good for your eyes!” or the times she would let you sit on the bathroom sink with a blue argyle mask on your face, a hand band with the brand logo that would definitely make your curls frizzy and messy. you would groan and grumble a lot but your wife is always quick to kiss you. in the end you fell into a routine of doing this pampering ritual every night. slowly you started to learn a lot about skin care and your wife’s work. you also would crash often at her office to just bring donuts and coffee or sneak to spend more time with your wife and the team. and much to your dismay, scarlett will never stop treating you like a tester, she’s already planning on dragging you at the offie to record some funny videos of her putting on your face brand new face creams.
talking about videos, you hate cameras and photos. oh you’re the opposite of your wife in this department. you’re a diplomat, an ambassador specifically, so you barely stand in front of cameras and address speeches, a safe way to do what you love without struggling with the media press. however since you got into a relationship with your wife and got married, you quickly became a target to paparazzi’s cameras. you awkwardly stand beside your wife when you’re taking photos at the event she has to attend, but scarlett is always there to calm you down with soft touches, whispers and little pecks. “it’s okay baby, focus on me, everything’s is alright”. when they catch you in the street you go protective over the kids and wife putting your discomfort aside. “little one it’s okay, look at mama, everything is okay. scarlett, baby, come closer to me. it’s okay”. when you’re alone, you just hide behind a hoodie hood. you rarely talk to the microphones and usually only offer politely smile and shield your anxious eyes.
scarlett never saw you crying in the years you’ve been together and probably she thought she would never. this until your wedding day arrived. oh, boy! the moment you saw her walking down the aisle you started crying for her endlessly beauty and the overwhelming love you have for her. after that you cried again, much harder, when your little girl was born. scarlett loves teasing you a lot about it. you blush rolling your eyes playfully and dismissing her with a groan.
you rarely fight but when you do, and it’s always for silly things, it doesn’t take much to crack the hard shell. one of you crawl in the arms of the other not much more than 1 hour later. you’re an ambassador so your job is to make peace, after toxic experiences in your past relationship, your communication level is high and you’re lucky enough to have found scarlett that is on the same page as yours. scarlett would hold you close and kiss the crown of your head. “i’m so sorry my love, i promise to work better on these things.” you would kiss her knuckles and whisper “i’m sorry too, baby, we’ll work on them together.”
at the end of the day it’s just you and your wife. you softly sway in the gold sunrise painting your skins. scarlett arms wrapped around your neck cradling the glass of wine between her hands while she leans to ghost your lips. your hand on her hip, the other hold your glass of wine close to the chest. you both hum the song that is putted on the background while behind you food cooks on the stove and mixes with the noises of the city. it’s peaceful, it’s a paradise, it’s you and the love of your life in a life that isn’t perfect, but has a glimpse of perfection shared together.

Asheiji fanfic recs pt. 4
Pt. 1 , 2 and 3
Brooklyn Baby by suffragettecity(41k)
Front-man Ash Lynx goes from coast to coast with his bohemian band. Photographer Eiji Okumura goes from journalist to groupie with his newfound freedom.
Your Best American Boy by suffragettecity(57k)
Cherry popsicles, bummed cigarettes, wrinkled photographs and shirtless nights. The summer a Japanese tourist moves in across the street, and an American boy falls in love through the fire-escapes.
Dusk till Dawn by equinoctial(97k)
“Alright. But you stay safe okay? I mean-” Eiji immediately regretted his reflexive reply to a goodbye. This wasn’t just your ordinary stranger, this was probably a powerful wizard for crying out loud.
But instead of an awkward laugh, the wizard settled with a gentle smile, the kind that reached his eyes and made the mystifying jade more brilliant than ever.
“Thanks. You stay safe too,” and with that, the wizard hopped off the balcony and vanished into the crowd below.
---
In which Eiji gets cursed into a ghost, the kingdom wages war on its neighbours, and the devil wizard Ash Lynx roams the wastelands while striking fear into the strongest of hearts.
But of course, fate would see the seemingly heartless wizard fall in love with a heart that had so much to give.
satin birds by kybelles(48k)
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

(Except, Ash and Eiji are not happy at all because they don't want this marriage.)
of sugar cookies and chocolate puddings by kybelles(3k)
Eiji first meets Ash on a gloomy sunday afternoon.
After a little silence, the door is slowly opened by someone Eiji doesn’t notice at first. When he lowers his eyes a little, however, his gaze meets with a pair of bright green eyes. He takes a little step back, taking the appearance of the blonde kid who’s standing in front him. The suspicious scowl on his face softens a little when his eyes catch the plate in Eiji’s hands but he keeps holding his guard.
“Um…” Eiji begins hesitantly.
“What do you want?” the boy asks with a challenging face.
“M-my mom sent this.” he stammers finally, pushing the plate forward a little clumsily.
be my mirror, my sword and shield by kybelles(15k)
Ash Lynx finds the love of his life on a quiet night after he trips on sidewalk and harshly bumps his face against it when he exits from library.
Ash lets out a long-suffering sigh and prepares to take out his phone when he hears a sharp inhale and feels someone approaching him in a hurry. He defensively turns towards the noise but freezes like a deer caught in the headlights.
There’s guy in front of him who’s looking at Ash with concern and the sight of him literally makes Ash’s heart flutter like it’s never done before. He has the softest looking black hair Ash’s ever seen and for a crazy moment, Ash feels an irrepressible urge to run his hand through it. The guy’s already big dark eyes grow impossibly bigger when they land on Ash’s bruised cheek.
“Oh my god!” he shrieks in an adorable manner. “Are you okay?”
“You must be an angel.” Ash blurts before he can stop himself.
Sacrifice by signpainter1(33k)
Ash, the Sun God asks for only one thing; a daily sacrifice of wheat to help him maintained the fields. When war threatens the country, they turn from a wheat sacrifice to a human one. People are brought to the capital including the man Ash loves the most, Eiji Okumura. Ash has to find a way to prevent Eiji from dying which is hard when humans only hear only what they want to hear.
The One With the Vampires by TurnUps(99k)
Eiji Okumura has travelled to New York state because a Count Golzine is paying him an awful lot of money to take some pictures of his house. It doesn't take long for him to find out that he's the intended prey for creatures of the night.
But he instead to save the mysterious Ash, Golzine's supposed son, as well as himself.
*
Ash put his hand over the boy's mouth. Kept him pushed against the wall.
"Listen to me." His voice came out as a growl - a monster's voice. "If you go up to the Golzine Estate, then you won't come back down. With or without the money, you won't see a cent of it. That man - that - thing - he lives to trap pretty boys like you into his web, and he'll gobble you up before you realise you're stuck. Go. Home."
The boy didn't struggle. A rabbit who knew it had been caught in a snare. Dark eyes stared at him - wide. Maybe that meant he was finally seeing sense.
His lips were parted, under Ash's palm. He became away of that. Warm skin and warmer breath. A familiar feeling reared its head in his stomach. A hunger.
No. He could not save this boy from Golzine's clutches just so that he would fall prey to his own.
Uncharted Waters by midnitewrites(148k)
A routine day on the water is turned on its head when fisherman Eiji Okumura spots a strange creature in his fishing net. His excitement quickly morphs into disbelief when he realizes that what he caught is no fish: it’s a mermaid, beautiful and deadly—and, as he soon learns, gravely injured.
Desperate to save them, Eiji spirits the mermaid away to his home and nurses them back to health in his bathtub. As they recover, he learns more about them and their situation: their name is Ash; they can’t hope to survive without a fin to replace the one they lost; and in a year’s time, their pod will once again return to the bay where Eiji first found them.
Together, Eiji and his friends devise a plan to rehabilitate Ash and reunite them with their pod. Yet as Ash gains strength, so, too, do the bonds they forge, and the prospect of saying goodbye becomes far more difficult than any of them bargained for.
Bed of Roses by TurnUps(103k)
Eiji had been watching the boy for the last three dances.
Well, he had been watching, but not watching. Every time the boy’s gaze came anywhere near him, he stared back down at the table, hoping that he hadn’t been caught.
It was the boy’s hair that had caught his eye at first. Yellow – somewhere between yellow and white. He’d never seen hair that colour before. Didn’t know it was possible for real people to have hair that colour. It was as though there was a miniature sun around his head. As if he was a candle, with its own flame.
The flame flickered in his eyes too. Green eyes – he’d rarely seen them, either – and none quite as vibrant a green as his. They sparkled like emeralds, above flashing white teeth. His waistcoat had a hint of green to it, that brought them out all the more.
*
Western/Cowboy/Young Guns AU! Eiji has travelled to America with Ibe because of fishy business with the mayor of a small town. Ash runs a group called the Regulators after the same thing.
And in That Light, I Saw You by ohrange(125k)
After a traumatic experience renders Eiji unable to attend school, Ibe suggests taking some time off to work as his photography assistant at an agency in New York. Eiji takes to the idea well enough, but doesn’t expect to get involved into investigating a sex-trafficking ring… something that Ash, a model at the agency, has been secretly keeping evidence of for years.
[In which Ash is a model with a dark past no one dares to question, and Eiji is a design student who escapes from Japan only to be met with the same thing he wants to forget.]
Rewrite the Stars by Hamliet(58k)
When exchange student Eiji Okumura arrives at his American high school for a year abroad, his worries about fitting in and earning As are quickly swept aside when he meets Ash Lynx, a genius rumored to have spent time in juvie last year. Between Ash, his friends Shorter and Sing, and the mysterious younger brother of the school's principal, Eiji finds himself drawn into a power struggle that he realizes is more familiar than he thought. High School AU... (like, where they're actually in school + there's a chance of healing).
Ain't it like thunder under earth by Snow_Falls(11k)
'Alex clarified, when again it seemed like Ash wouldn’t reply. “Whoever goes with the boss has to spend some time fooling around with him.”
“Who is going with Ash?” Eiji had to ask.
There was a significant pause. The boys looked at Eiji and away.'
Fake dating, then real dating, with the mildest of heists thrown in for flavour.

Julia Schenkelberg, “Blue Ocean”, 2020, Blue dye, resin, rusted metal from Detroit factory floors, plaster chips, vintage china, glass from Brooklyn beaches
Tumblr media
Malone University Art Gallery’s exhibition Healing Spaces features work by Northeastern Ohio artists Julie Schenkelberg, Chen Peng, Yiyun Chen, and Emily Bartolone. Although the mediums differ, the work flows together in the room. Below are some selections and more about each artist from the gallery’s documentation.
Tumblr media
Julie Schenkelberg, "Modern Memorial", 2020, Found screen, plaster, acrylic paint, vintage leather and fabric, jewelry box interior, glass gathered from Cleveland and Detroit auto and steel factory abandoned floors, vintage glass slide of the Parthenon Frieze
Julie Schenkelberg grew up in the post-industrial landscape of Cleveland, Ohio. Her mixed-media installations start with furniture, dishware, textiles, and marble, combined with concrete, resin, and construction materials, to transform notions of domesticity, and engage with the American Rust Belt's legacy of abandonment and decay. Using the home as a playground for formal and conceptual subversions, the work aggressively disrupts cohesion within the physical sphere. Familiar furnishings rekindle memories or premonitions of collapse, suggesting both the utter destruction of war, calamities, or urban decay, but also the uncanny juxtapositions of fragile substances such as cloth and china, with industrial materials such as rusty metal, heavy concrete, and tool-made marks such as drilled holes and chain-sawed indentations.
Tumblr media
Chen Peng, Paintings from the "Mountains at Night" series, 2023, gouache, acrylic, and oil on canvas
Deriving from a desire to find stillness and grounding as an immigrant, Chen Peng explores the connection between landscape and the complexities of identity and belonging. She creates foreign landscapes from a combination of past experiences, memories, and imagination, delving into the disorienting sense of not knowing where home is. The moon, particularly in its fullness, becomes a symbol encapsulating emotions and metaphors associated with loneliness, reverence, and even terror. Her ceramic pieces extend this exploration of landscapes, featuring textures and marks that convey the essence of mountains, clouds, and the moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photographs from from Yiyun Chen's series "Velleity", 2016-2018
The photography of Yiyun Chen is about the process of self-reflection and self-discovery as an Asian immigrant, exploring the relationship between people, environment and society, turning its personal experience and empathy into gentle conversations between humans and nature, capturing the poetic and distance of the environment around us. Through photography, we can take the essence of life seriously again and treat the people and things around us tenderly. Through his lens, they often have similar structure, people look tiny in nature scenes, creating an intimate visual experience. Most of his photographs are captured outdoors, with soft light and harmonious colors often used.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stemming from her infatuation with the formal elements of painting, the work of Emily Bartolone pairs down simple, anthropomorphized shapes in an effort to explore paint and color theory while simultaneously creating tension and humor through color, edges, and texture. The playful, human qualities of painting are incorporated into the work through the use of amorphous shapes animated within the picture plane. Further informed by ideas of the mundane, the awkward, and the jovial that surround everyday life, the complexity of human relationships are mimicked by the shapes interacting on each painting's surface. In acknowledging that life is not always cordial, moments of tension are placed within the satisfying surfaces in the form of an abrupt mark, a disparate color, or a shift in scale. These ideas are used to take viewers outside of themselves for a short period of time, hoping to offer a break from the bombardment of distractions, notifications, and news we encounter so often on a daily basis.
This exhibition closes 4/9/24.

#04 ‘created by j-hope’: masterpieces by a master storyteller
Tumblr media
in this note on ‘j-hope songs as art’, i’d like to feature an artwork by j-hope himself, a triptych of photographs he took while in new york, captioned ‘NY vibes’ (IG, 31 december 2022) for ‘on the street (solo version)’.
‘photo by j-hope’ is one of many ‘created by j-hope’ artefacts to me because his natural talent in photography is as admirable as his genius in music. he has this exceptional ability to assemble various artistic elements (visual, lyrical and sonic) in a single composition with no hint of dissonance. consider how his music is characterised by a mix of genres, linguistic and literary techniques in his lyrics and lyricism and innovative use of ad libs and beats, to name a few. his photographs are just as brilliantly composed.
we know he loves and dares to experiment in music and he does it successfully. it is the same with his photography and with its beautiful results, proven by his polaroid era (which needs to make a comeback if you ask me). these NY photos while seemingly straight-up cityscape visuals, showcase his mix of natural talent and skillful use of techniques, most evident in how he uses the triangular composition in the photos to establish leading lines, symmetry and balance with the shape. additionally, they have much symbolic significance to his song ‘on the street (solo version)’.
in the classical tradition, triangular compositions were used because they created a sense of balance and harmony by arranging the subjects in a stable overall geometric form. triangles are inherent in perspective and in still images especially, create dynamism that adds visual interest to them. they guide the viewer’s eyes from one corner of the frame to another, thus encouraging a longer engagement with the photos. in j-hope’s triptych, each photo bears the triangular composition, reflecting momentum and direction even as they are still images. viewed individually and collectively, they also vividly represent the repeated line, ‘everytime i walk, everytime i run, everytime i move’ in the chorus.
Tumblr media
photo 01 shows a couple of traffic lights and signposts at a street intersection where traffic flow transition takes place. the implied triangle shapes and overall composition, with the slight, low angle emphasise the buildings in the background, towering over the viewer. this illustrates the overwhelming feeling that comes with being at an intersection (literal and figurative) where decisions must be made for changes to happen, making this photo the perfect visual accompaniment to these lines in verse 2 of ‘on the street (solo version)’:
Tumblr media
photo 02 is a shot of the brooklyn bridge from afar, its triangular composition more evident and its colours brighter than in photo 01. the viewer’s eyes follow the length of the bridge even as they look up to the sky and down at the water. there is a sense of liberation and that tight, crowded sensation in the first photo has eased off as well because now the towering buildings are pushed further into the background. this image is an apt illustration of these later lines in the same verse:
Tumblr media
photo 03 almost envelopes its viewer in darkness, except for the triangular strip of light in the middle that highlights the buildings and part of the bridge seen in photo 02. j-hope captured a chiaroscuro (a classical painting technique that creates high contrast between dark and light, to put it very simply) moment in this photo that aptly conveys the idea of ‘dissonance’ (i.e. contrast and difference) in time and experience (‘knowing the path’ vs ‘walking it’), mentioned in these lines:
Tumblr media
i’ve always loved j-hope’s photography style (which i discussed briefly in ‘With j-hope, IG stands for InGenious’). there is no official information on whether he has ever taken formal lessons on the art form but that is neither here nor there; what is more valuable are his keen visual instincts, evident in his photographs. it is no surprise at all how he has moved very comfortably and excellently, from still images to film, proven by his dance documentary, ‘HOPE ON THE STREET’. his ‘created by j-hope’ masterpieces - his music, his photography, his documentary, his product designs (among many other j-hope creations) - just prove what a master storyteller and visionary he is. i look forward to when j-hope puts up a photography exhibition, publishes his own photobook and even features his photographs as cover art for his future solo albums.

[ andy biersack, cismale, he/him ] — whoa! PAOLO “PAULY” PARKER just stole my cab! not cool, but maybe they needed it more. they have lived in the city for SIX MONTHS, working as a/an TATTOO ARTIST. that can’t be easy, especially at only 27 YEARS OLD. some people say they can be a little bit RECKLESS and SHORT-SIGHTED, but i know them to be FUN-LOVING and PASSIONATE. whatever. i guess i’ll catch the next cab. hope they like the ride back to BROOKLYN! — (jinx, 30+, cst, she/her/they/them, none)
Trigger warnings:
Drug & alcohol use
juvenile detention
poverty/homelessness
religious fanaticism
verbal abuse
Childhood
"Paolo "Pauly" Parker began his life as Paolo Klein, born into a middle-class, observant Protestant household to Mr. and Mrs. Klein. His father was a pastor at a local Evangelical church, and his mother was a stay-at-home mom and wife. On the surface, the Klein family seemed nothing short of a beautiful hallmark family. However, beneath the smiles in photographs, the Kleins were riddled with unhappiness.
Mr. Klein was a man of control in his family; in his house, there was a place for everything, and everything was to be in its place, including his wife and children. Talking back or questioning authority was met with verbal berating, yelling, and being sat down to read scripture until they "found God" and behaved themselves. While the younger Klein children fell into the places their father deemed fit for them, Pauly was another story.
Pauly was a child whose first word might very well have been "why?" This question, loathed by his father, became a fundamental part of Pauly's vocabulary. Mr. Klein was convinced that enrolling him in a private Protestant school would straighten him out, but all Pauly did was engage in arguments with the teachers and the clergy. As Pauly grew older, these arguments with his father escalated into screaming matches, and Mr. Klein realized he was swiftly losing control of his son. No measure seemed effective in extinguishing Pauly's independent spirit – not Christian summer camps, not Wednesday evening Bible study, not even the removal of Pauly's "luxuries," which included his bedroom door and, at one point, his bed.
Adolescence
When Pauly began high school, he started socializing beyond his usual school circle and began attending parties, where he experimented with drugs and alcohol—anything that could ease his life and drown out the troubles with his father. It didn't take long for his father to catch wind of a party he attended, leading to his father calling the police and having Pauly arrested. Pauly spent six months in juvenile detention, and upon returning home, he found himself in a volatile household. Mrs. Klein was deeply troubled by how her husband had demeaned and devalued their son instead of offering support, reaching a point where she couldn't endure it any longer. She insisted on a divorce, a process that stretched over a year and ultimately resulted in Pauly and his mother leaving their home with nothing to their names.
Mrs. Klein (taking on her maiden name of Parker) and Pauly faced significant challenges for months after leaving their previous home. Their family refused to offer any assistance, leading them to a homeless camp near Griffith Park. Pauly dedicated himself to supporting his mother, abandoning his education and taking on various jobs to help her gather enough funds to purchase an RV and secure some form of shelter for the two of them. Once Pauly's mother secured employment, she urged Pauly to obtain his GED and build a better life for himself. Pauly fulfilled this promise shortly after turning 18, taking on different jobs and pursuing an apprenticeship at a local tattoo shop.
Adulthood
It became evident early on that Pauly possessed a talent for tattoo artistry, and he effortlessly navigated through his apprenticeship. At the age of 21, he was tattooing independently, and by 24, he had established a reputation in the shop where he began. His artistic endeavors became so profitable that he could quit his other jobs and commit entirely to tattooing, enabling him to earn enough money for an apartment for both himself and his mother.
However, the glow of his success was dimmed by persistent interference from their family, who were resolute in preventing Pauly and his mother from achieving any form of success. Shortly before Pauly's 27th birthday, he successfully persuaded his mother to relocate with him to New York, seeking refuge from the incessant prying of their family and their congregation. The duo packed up and started over in New York City, settling in a less-than-modest apartment in Bed Stuy. Pauly's exceptional work caught the attention of Concrete Jungle Ink, leading to a quick hiring, and he has been contributing his artistry there for the last six months.

Tamika Dowdy, 22 (USA 1998)
Rudy Alston, better known by his stage name Floss, thought his luck couldn’t get any better. Not only was he engaged, but he had just been signed to a contract by Tommy Boy Records. He couldn’t wait to share the amazing news with his fiancée, 22-year-old Tamika Dowdy.
He never got the chance.
As he sat in the waiting room of the Women’s Medical Pavilion on December 1, 1998, a man kept walking in and out of the room. He was sweating horribly and he just kept pacing back and forth. Finally, he told Rudy what had happened to Tamika.
During the abortion, Tamika’s heart stopped. Rudy rode with her in the ambulance, staying by her side and hoping desperately that she would make it. The hospital did what they could, but Tamika was officially pronounced dead the next day.
Rudy had been dreaming of his wedding to Tamika and of celebrating their marriage and his record deal together. Now, because of a single legal abortion, all of his plans had been shattered.
Tamika’s 18-year-old brother, Darrel Dowdy, told the New York Post, “I want that place closed down. I want that doctor arrested for murder.” The facility had been in trouble less than a month before for tearing a client’s uterus. When the New York Post sent a reporter and photographer to Brooklyn Women’s Health Pavilion, the facility called security to have them removed.
Police officials tried to squelch news of the tragic abortion death by omitting from their daily report that Dowdy died after an abortion, a police source said. They included only the address where the incident took place, not even mentioning an abortion was involved.
Tamika had decided to get an abortion at 4 months pregnant because she wanted to attend accounting school. She had believed the abortion industry’s lie that women can’t have an education or a career if they’re pregnant. Tamika could have gone on to have a long life and a successful career had she and her baby been allowed to live. Instead, two young lives were brutally ended and Tamika’s fiancée was left devastated.

1) Steddie Engagement/Wedding
(Lots of background before all the cute shit…sorry)
OKAY! First, most importantly, fuck the 1980s- EVERYONE makes it out of 1986, Max and Eddie are fine! By 1990, Steve and Eddie are ready to leave Hawkins, Indiana in general.
Steve wants to go to New York, he’s tired of the slowness of the ‘southern’ US, he wants to feel the drive of a big city, and he’s convinced it’s progressive. (He’s not wrong but he’s also not right)
Eddie wants The West Coast dream, to be as FAR away from Hawkins as he can get, he’s also heard about all these celebrities that live and die for California.
They end up not being sure what to choose because The Kids are divided:
Max, El, and Will want to go to California for college. Max wants to get back to the sand and the sun, it’s her home and she misses it. Will wants to go to school there half bc it’s where he started accepting himself and half bc that’s where Mike isn’t (they’re not in a good place bc Mike still hasn’t figured out his shit), Jane is SO in love with Max and Will is her brother so she’s gonna go with them (even if Cali was rough for her the first time) plus Jonathan has already made a home for himself out there with Argyle. Johnathan is working for CNN as a photographer (The Kids don’t know it but they’re dating, he and Nance broke up on good terms, she needed to find herself outside a relationship and she’s very happy for John and Argyle they talk all the time)
Mike, Lucas, and Dustin want the East Coast. Massachusetts, for Mike and Dustin, bc of MIT. Lucas gets a scholarship to some school up there, he could’ve went to California but he wants to give Max a chance to figure out what she wants out of life (he’s such a good kid and he just wants her to be happy).
In the end, they decide on NYC bc Johnathan is in California to make sure Max, Jane, and Will are okay. They’re close enough to Mike, Dustin, and Lucas that if something goes down they can get to them but far enough away that they can have their own lives.
Lucas ends up in Brooklyn, he’s doing great in school, Dustin and Mike are thriving at MIT. Will, is doing great in art school. Jane is having fun in community college she’s making friends and has even met a few lesbian/bi women, Max is balls to the wall living her best life.
In the summer of 1991, Robin moves to NYC, she’s offered a job at The Smithsonian bc of her history degree. Nancy also follows Steve and Eddie out to East Coast, she gets a job in Chicago for The Tribune. Steve has finished his degree in Social Work, and he’s working for New York States Child Protective Services (they don’t know he’s in a relationship with Eddie for obvious reasons). Eddie works at a dive bar that he headlines at on the weekends.
By spring of 91’ Steve and Eddie have been together for four years and EVERYONE is pushing for them to make it official. Joyce is hearing all this stuff about Domestic Partnerships and she’s hoping that soon her boys will be able to have the same rights she and Hopper have. She’s really leading the charge in getting them married, Robin of course is backing her 100%. Steve and Eddie kind of brush it off bc they’re happy as they are. It’s like their own sexy secret, something they share and love and don’t have to explain to anyone else.
When the kids start graduating and finally get into the real world they all meet up at Steve and Eddie’s home. They’ve moved out of the city into a nice suburban neighborhood, close enough that they get all the night life and shit but far enough away that they feel safe with their not so kid children coming to stay with them. It’s the summer of 1997 at this point.
Jane convinces Hop and Joyce to come up to see everyone for a few weeks at the beginning of June. Each of the boys take turns talking to Steve and Eddie abt the potential of an engagement. It’s a very stressful first three days. By the end of that first week tho, Steve is ready to pop the question. Once the whole family is back together (John and Argyle included) he asks Eddie to be his husband over some of Hop’s ‘world famous’ stakes. Eddie of course says yes. Lots of happy tears follow.

A man suspected in the fatal weekend shooting of a New York City subway rider, less than two months after a mass shooting on the transit system, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, authorities said.
Andrew Abdullah, 25, was arrested at his lawyer's offices for the slaying of Brooklyn resident Daniel Enriquez, 48, who was fatally shot in his chest while he rode in a subway car on Sunday morning, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at a news conference.
Abdullah was described as a gang member and repeat offender with a criminal history dating back to 2016, including arrests for felony assault, robbery, attempted murder and a gun charge that remains open.
He was given a 30-month sentence in May 2017 for the attempted murder charge, and was out of prison in June 2019 and released from parole in June 2021, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said.
New York Mayor Eric Adams called Abdullah the "poster child" for perpetrators of violence in the city and suggested that the state's criminal justice system played a role in the killing.
"We got a killer off our streets, but far too many killers are back on our streets through the revolving door of the criminal justice system," Adams said.
Abdullah was photographed by Reuters walking into the NYPD's 5th Precinct station in handcuffs with a police detective escort.
Law enforcement was able to locate the suspect with the help of police canvassing, community engagement and social media outreach, Sewell said.
A 9-millimeter shell casing discharged from a Ruger firearm was recovered at the scene, Essig said. The gun, which was stolen in Hampton, Virginia in 2019, was later handed at random to a homeless male, who authorities brought in for questioning, he said.
Enriquez, who worked for investment bank Goldman Sachs, was riding a train crossing a bridge from Brooklyn into lower Manhattan when he was shot without provocation, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
Adams said his heart is with the family of Enriquez, an innocent person who should be alive today.
Sunday's attack adds further pressure on Adams, a former police captain and Brooklyn borough president who made crime and public safety a focus of his campaign for mayor last year.
In February, Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul promised to increase police patrols and mental health outreach in response to a spate of attacks in the subway system, which is run by the state-controlled Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
On April 12, the subway system saw one of the most violent attacks in its history, when a man set off a smoke bomb and opened fire in a subway car, leaving 23 people injured in the chaos, including 10 hit by gunfire.
Frank James, 62, was arrested a day later. He was indicted earlier this month on terrorism and other federal charges.

RUNNERS LOW
-> potentially triggering content, including: death of a sibling.
Yenna is sure, that if her life had a title, it would have been NICE. Because, question mark, when had it ever been anything but that? The smiles she offered for family pictures when her mother squeezed her shoulder a little, nice. The way the school uniform looked on her, nice. The hair, the nails, the face, all so stupidly fucking nice. In New York, there was anonymity, and then there was not. Some residents managed to live their whole live in the shadows of skyscrapers, and some were torn into the public eye within the matter of seconds. Yenna, she was all dolled up fifteen hours after her birth, ready to be photographed and presented to the whole family - and it took her one flashing camera and those exact fifteen hours to figure that being popular sucked. And her parents were the stupid epitome of popular and nice. Cheerleader, football guy, the popular couple; he went into business, she into politics. Creme colored everything, check. Garden with a pool, check. Charming, popular and nice older brother? DING, DING. The only thing missing from their family was some stupidly small dog, and they could have been thrown into every stereotypical television ad. So even if she wanted to, even if she tried to curl up in a shell and hide under thousands of gallons of sand, Yenna could have never escaped being popular, and being fucking nice. Until. Enter not perfectly popular Theo, a birthday party her not-so-perfect-anymore brother threw, one year of dating and two years of marriage. What her brother loves and deems fun, her parents keep being skeptical of, and it all comes crashing down when -- -- she finds herself kneeling in front of her brother's grave in disbelief, dress full of mud, hands full of dirt, and all that perfect and popular and nice is gone and discarded and trampled down in a constant chatter of-- IT'S NOT HIS FAULT. Thrown out of her life in the most cruel way, Yenna is caught grieving the first person she ever truly got to know, the first person who's imperfections she got to discover, along with the second that ever dared to stick around; and gone is will you marry me and Yenna Langley, all that's left is ... ... you can change your name, but that will never change you.
LEFTOVER BULLETS
has a little 'T' tattooed onto the side of her hip that she doesn't currently plan to get rid off, and got after she and Theo got engaged (mostly to piss off her parents, but also because she thought it was cute)
had an older brother called Isaia, who was in the Brotherhood and killed during a shooting around three years ago
the restaurant she owns is called 'The Resol', and has grown into rather high-end Argentinian restaurant in a rather calm neighborhood
