So innocently I decided I wanted to start my day off with a little Stargate, as one does. I watched an episode of SG1 and then started SGA only to realize I was watching Common Ground. Well, this doesn't promise to be very relaxing.

I think one of the things I like about SGA over SG1 is I feel like it hits harder. I don't know why exactly. SG1 has plenty of torture and has been known to kill off characters. But there is something about SGA that is more intense, less light, less guaranteed to wrap everything up nicely. The thing I'm unsure about is how much of this sense of intensity comes from knowledge accumulated from rewatching--Elizabeth's death, Carson's death, Sheppard's deepening darkness, Rodney's experiences in the Shrine episode. But, I had watched some of SG1 before SGA and I loved SGA immediately unlike SG1. Even the most intense SG1 episodes don't make me cry like some lighter SGA episodes.

Anyway.

Common Ground. I love it because Sheppard doesn't even once lose his faith that his people will come for him. At the same time, he doesn't sit around twiddling his thumbs. I love that he does both, works for his escape and trusts his friends. I love that after talking about giving up his life in Sateda and then being given two examples of his willingness to die for his friends, we see his trust in them.

I love his final command being not to give in. I love Ronon's anger. I love Elizabeth's pain and strength. There is a shot of Elizabeth from the back staring at the closed Stargate and you can just sense her calling Sheppard back, willing it to open, willing information to form so she can send the team to get him back. It's such a powerful image of a woman in her home waiting for her people to get back, not idle but with a visceral aggression.

I love that we finally get to view the Wraith with a little more nuance. I love it every time Todd chuckles. Giving us a Wraith with a sense of humor was pure brilliance because it connects us to him instantly. It humanized him in a refreshing way. But, really, the golden moment was when Todd treated Sheppard like a brother-in-arms and Sheppard did the same. Talk about me cheering!

I love this episode. It hurts but it also makes me smile and it brings in one of my favorite characters: Todd.

This gate brings you to other dimensions. It's also a little tribute to Stargate SG1.” On Seibertron, he went into more detail to explain why Megatron and Galvatron are separate individuals here: “I'm a big fan of Shattered Glass. Read the comic drawn by The Don and read Reunification. Loved that story. But I was sad about how simple Megatron died and how he became Galvatron. Like Gen1 has many universes, this universe is just a variant of the S.G universe. Things are just a little bit different. Since the IDW Galvatron I've hoped to see that the explanation was that they where brothers. Never happened. So I've took a little freedom and made them in the SG universe brothers. Still, It could happen that I maybe write a story where Galvatron is killed and later on that Megatron will be Galvatron. But maybe that's to much. A idea I've got this morning.” Many readers were confused by the inset panel of Optimus Prime pressing a button, as the control panel has an unfortunate tangent with Galvatron’s back, making it seem as if an unseen figure is pressing a button on Galvatron’s back. Philip Knott independently colored his own artwork, sharing it online as an alternate version; see below for that. Jut later re-released the strip with his own lettering, changing the dialogue slightly in the process; you can find that below as well, along with a huge swathe of behind-the-scenes material.

I have a dirty Daredevil X reader languishing in my wips. Might get around to it when I watch the new season.

Character voices and attentions to detail. People usually comment on those things. I'm also good at bringing the Drama™️. There may be some screaming, crying and throwing up 😂

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Keeping it short and sweet, my slow burns really are slow burns. I have to pay specific attention to pacing and linking scenes well. I do way too much Research™️ .

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I would if I had a native language speaker to proof read it for me.

As a reader I find it annoying if I have to keep moving back to the chapter notes to check translations. It interrupts the flow.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The X-files but I was a kid, does that count? Supernatural is probably more relevant.

I have written genuine crackfic, if that counts? What To Expect When You're Expecting, and Home Is Where The Dog Is. (I love the latter so much.)

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

Actively? Probably my home fandom, Stargate. I've been sharing stories since May 2019! I was into it a lot longer than that.

But Passively? I've been into all the Star Treks since I was old enough to watch TV (a few decades).

I'm a mega SciFi fan.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

Rodney McKay, for sure, mostly because his 360 from SG1 to mid SGA is an exceptional turnaround. Bringing his character back was a gamble, and it paid off. I love character growth. It's not often these days that a show or a film has the time to develop their characters, everything is ACTION/BAM/ACTION/SEX/DEATH at the expense of characterisation. I don't consider a spiel of in-jokes to be sufficient character development.

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

I am a sucker for most tropes, but I will hesitate at some AUs, like High School/college and anything Occult. I have read very few that I really enjoyed, most of which were my love of the writer more than the trope.

X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

Huddling for warmth. Probably because I spent the coldest winter of my life in a caravan.

Snippet Sunday

I was tagged (bullied) by @dear-massacre

this is an excerpt from a story that started out as a Charmed spinoff but turned into its own thing. This is the first scene i saw in my head clearly that i felt the need to write down. It's focused on one of the supporting cast members and a recuring character i want to bring back a few times who has an ongoing entanglement with the previous character. The scene is a flashback, taking place in Martinique. Both characters are Black women. It's also the scene i was talking about the other day that is inspired by that one scene from Stargate SG1.

Also, it's a first draft.

I am extremely protective of my original writing, so me allowing myself to share this at all is a huge deal. I don't think any of you would steal this, especially considering how it's a first draft, but please don't make me regret sharing it. You're allowed to give constructive criticism though.

Diane was caught in a fitful sleep. Memories of her encounter with the woman haunting her as if forcing themselves into her dreams.

Thunder cracked the sky open above her head sending a heavy rain cascading down to the ground and the water surrounding her cabin and startling her awake. The already humid air of the night made even more suffocating by the sudden windless storm. In the pitch blackness of her room she saw a faint light right above her. Between her and the canopy of the bed. The light grew and sparks started to fly as the air itself suddenly caught fire. Every human instincts in Diane told her to roll to the floor and run, but something kept her in place, mesmerized by the strange fire burning in place above her. The fire emitted no smoke. It did not smell of anything. The flames grew closer and licked her skin, but they didn’t hurt. Their heat was humid, like scorching rain turning ice atop a glacier to water. Sweat started to pool under her breasts and drip from her forehead, her sides, her neck, shown into her back and soaking the sheets.

The flames started to shape themselves in the form of a woman. The woman Diane had met earlier, Lénora, the vampire, was floating above her, her back crowned by a cape of fire.

“Je ne suis pas une vampire” she said as if she’d read her mind.

Diane tried to speak but words escaped her. Lénora started to talk again, her soft voice quieting everything else in her head.

“I’m not dead. Do I look dead?”

“n-” she caught her breath, realizing she’d been holding it for a long time. “no”.

“Do I feel dead?” and as she said this, she took Diane’s hand and placed it between her breasts, right above her heart that beat in harmony with the roaring thunder outside.

Halloween 2022 Election Fight

Comtraya and Tek'ma'tek, y'all! I know we said that, come September, we would restart the twice a week showing, and bring back SGA and SGU. However, since our anniversary is coming up again, we decided to implement those changes after that.

Regarding the Anniversary viewing on Sunday 30st of October: Last year we announced that for our Anniversary viewing on Halloween, we will be starting to show two spoopy episode, with one being SGA's Whispers as per tradition, and the other episode being another spooky SGA, SG1 or SGU episode. Please reply to this post with the number of the episode in the list. The one with the most votes wins and will be shown on our Anniversary Viewing this year together with Whispers.

Most of them, really? Words Don't Come Easily and Of Sequins and Scalpels are proper happy ever after ends.

I don't get hate. I have had someone ranting about my choices but I just blocked that convo after saying, "Thank you. I don't agree. Have a good day." I do this for fun, I haven't time for negative vibes.

Yus. What kind? Kinda romantic, but also featuring many different walls (if I have a vampire who can hold someone up no problem I am going to use that to my advantage, lol!).

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I've done a few crossovers, and a few fusions. Craziest crossover? It isn't that crazy (yet) but Sanctuary/Ted Lasso. Fusion? Sanctuary/Pokémon. I love the idea of Helen as a Pokémon trainer. Oh, but Helen as The Arrow from DC has a special place too.

Nope?

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Someone wanted to translate one of my smutty fics to Russian but I never heard anything from them again, so I assume nothing.

Yes! With samsg1 when she came over to visit a few years back. We started planning it in my living room as our kids played Mario Kart then wrote it over GDocs together. Die Hard Isn't a Christmas Movie. It was fun, but brought up some residual feelings I had at school that I thought I had got through. Didn't tell her, because I didn't want to bring her down (because she is *so* so cool and I adore her). We do wanna write together again but we're both super busy (and I'm more a Sanctuary girlie at heart).

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

Helen/Nikola. They bring me joy.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Comedic timing? I'm not sure tbh. Oh! I can write a bonzer last line. You need a great last line when you write drabbles.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Length. I cannot write long fic on the regular to save my life. Like, I know I got OSaS done, and I'm slowly getting to the denouement of In The Nice Part of Town (very slowly), but it's haaaaaard. I want the flash bang dopamine fix posting oneshots give me.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

If it's a language I know well (aka Cymraeg) then I'm filling that dialogue up. If it's a language I have a tiny bit of passing knowledge on, or I can ask someone, "Omg, how do I say [xyz] in [language]?", I'll use a bit of it. If it's a language I know not, and I don't want to go looking stuff up, I don't use it. XD If someone else wants to do it, more power to them. :)

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Voyager? Yeah, pretty sure it was Voyager.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

This is called cruelty. Today? Waves - Teslen, AU, everybody's human (kinda). It's rushed in places but I love that universe.

So I've decided to rewatch the entire StarGate franchise, from original film, SG.1, Atlantis, Universe, and that pre mini series that I've never seen yet.

Stargate SG.1 was my first obsession, I was 13 when sg1 first came out and have obsessed over it for years. I watched each episode, especially the early seasons, so many times I can quote entire episodes off by heart. Daniel Jackson was my first on screen crush, I've been to so many conventions, but i havent watched it for many years.

Now I'm starting over, I've just started the film and I'm fucking crying already when the stargate is revealed in the desert.

This is gonna bring back so many teenage emotions.

I only write for Star Trek these days. I muddle between all of them as I tend to write for small background characters I've developed unhealthy obsessions with.

Back in my fanfiction.net days I predominantly wrote Star Trek Enterprise and Stargate Atlantis but I took a 20 year hiatus (more or less) in writing fanfic. I only really started writing again about 6 months ago because Star Trek Picard made me simultaneously so happy and so angry that my creativity just exploded back to life.

I think my fav kinds of endings are bittersweet rather than angsty. A lot of the time they end with lovers parting, willingly or not. Love me a 'doomed by the narrative' type.

A Way With Wordes - it ends with a wedding announcement!

No, which given that I've written for an insanely unpopular ship once or twice, is actually a little surprising.

My good man/woman/rogue, I only write smut these days. I used to live for fluffy friendship fics, and I like to think I still inject a lot of tenderness into my work, but I am more motivated by the idea of becoming a good erotica writer than anything else these days.

I don't. I thought about writing a 12 Monkeys/Picard crossover but never went through with it.

Yes. I had a bunch of Spock/McCoy poems I wrote back in 2002 reappear over a decade later on AO3 under someone else's name. Not an archive, just some guy pretending he wrote them. I honestly didn't care. They were exactly the kind of mawkish tripe you'd expect a 12 year old to write.

Back in my day, sonny, we wrote fics round robin style through hotmail.com or on the yahoo message boards. (So yes, but we're talking like 20 years ago. I don't do it anymore because I'm in too weird of a niche these days!)

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Nebula class. Looks like a frog. I have a Nebula model on my desk that I replaced the decal of to make it the T'Kumbra!

OH, you mean like...OTP? Uh... I don't think I have one anymore? Back in the day I used to read a tremendous amount of McKay/Weir(SGA), Archer/T'Pol (Ent), and Jack/Sam (SG1) but these days I really enjoy reading about niche characters and ocs. Some of the best fics I've read this year have been oc/oc fics or obscure character(OC) and original character(oc) fics.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

You got me in between the devil and the deep blue sea - I was so taken with this idea when I started, then I got super sick and now whenever I think of working on it, I just feel tired again and don't. We'll see if I return to it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I feel like I'm really good at setting a mood and drawing a person in with all their senses. I get a lot of comments about that.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I don't use one word where many will do. My chapters are way. too. freakin'. long.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I do this a lot, but I always put in the translations. If it's a sentence, I will place the translation after the sentence. If it's just a word, I'll put in a glossary.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Ever? Star Trek TOS and it was a Spones fic. On AO3? Discworld and it was Vimes & Vetinari.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

I am obsessed with A Perfect Match. I love delving into Romulan and Vulcan culture and exposing the similarities and dichotomies of two arrogant characters like Letant and Solok.

However, I am also very proud of Not Your Typical Disaster Scenario which I wrote based on a piece of art I found super inspiring.
