an....okay start to the year! i once again did NOT finish rewriting my ya sci-fi book which i am...not thrilled about, although i am really trying to be gentle with myself (but i've been rewriting it for like 10 months now and i'm TIREDDDD). however, i am really getting into the last arc of it now so *sweats* just hoping i don't monumentally fuck it up ahahaha.

i also did work a liiiiittle on my query package in anticipation of querying....eventually... my plans to chaotically send out a single query by end of january did not come to fruition. buuuut maybe in february? we'll see lol. i figure it at least helps to have a query + synopsis handy for when i AM ready!

i didn't do a ton of work on fic, but i did at least get through maybe half of my initial round of edits on sylvix dreamscape ch 10! hoping i can finish up edits on that this month and hand it off to betas. i also dusted off my matchablossom bedsharing fic and worked a bit on that (thanks to the announcement of the teen matchablossom OVA which inspired me to write about them again lol). aaaand i worked on sylvix pacrim au like once which is better than nothing!!

i say it every goddam month but...maybe i will finally finish my book rewrites this month? *holding back my tears* if so i might take a lil break before line edits and actually have time to work on fic and/or on other original projects i've been neglecting, but if so it probably won't be til the very end of the month. SIIIIGH.

idk. rough month for me, lads. my mental health was hmm not great. i'm still not done with my ya sci-fi book rewrites and to be frank i feel like shit about it LOL. only rewrote like One Chapter and i still have like 7(??) more to go so....urrgghh. some delusional part of me believes i can still finish it this month somehow but at this rate it'll probably take me the rest of the year so lmao who knows at this point!! not me!

i did at least work a bit on my query package this month so wooo!!! a friend was helping me out with it so i still have a ton of edits to do on my query/synopsis but that's a problem for future me.

i did have some stupid plan to send out a single query just for funsies by end of february—and honestly i was gonna do it, but... missed the deadline to query the one agent i was going to query, and took that as a sign for the universe that it was an idiotic idea anyway. lol. maybe by end of march, but i am feeling so hopeless about my book currently that that's a very very big Maybe.

i also worked a bit on sylvix dreamscape fic ch 10 edits... unfortunately there was a big chunk in the middle i've had to basically totally rewrite bc i changed some stuff and also hated what i'd written but akdfjdk i really do want to finish it this month ;; i know some people are anxiously waiting for the ending so i feel terrible that it's been so long... hopefully i will make the wait worth it 🙏

umm wellll ALSO fell into bungo stray dogs hell this past month. i had actually been watching it since...september?? (can that be right?) but took me like six months to get through the whole thing, then suddenly the brainrot hit haha. and i ended up getting like three fic ideas for it soooo... i've been vaguely working on planning those! no idea when i will have time to actually write any of them (esp considering the 14938 fic wips i already have) but hope to at least keep planning them during march.

welllll i am still not done with my book rewrites. :') but i don't feel quite as bad about it as i did last month. i did at least finish a few chapters and only have ~5 left. so i think even if i don't finish this month, i'll get very close to the end. which is exciting! i have been doing these rewrites for ALMOST A YEAR now. yikes.

i told myself i would also have some fun + write more fic this month too. in particular i'm hoping to start on a bsd / soukoku oneshot and perhaps finish a first draft of that at least, since i don't expect it to be tooooo long (but knowing me.... who knows!) i have another longer bsd au i'm excited about which mayyybeeee i'll start this month if i have time, but that one's a lot more involved....i'd at least like to continue planning it.

also I REALLY WANT TO FINISH EDITING CH 10 OF SYLVIX DREAMSCAPE THIS MONTH!!! i don't think i touched it at all last month and feel really bad about that. it's been so long since i updated so.... hopefullyyyy that will change sometime in the nearish future (not sure it'll be by end of this month, but we'll see.)

if i have time....might return to some of my other long-neglected fics as well.

everything is a bit up in the air right now because i have some family stuff going on, so i am trying to be gentle with myself. but i hope to make some progress this month at least!

well uhhh uhhh i did not meet a single one of my december goals. so that's....not great! i had really hoped to finish my ya sci-fi book rewrites by end of the year but alas, i still have 9 chapters left *sob* (i thought i only had 7 but recently realized i need to add two more chapters. cool. cool cool cool coolcoolcool.) but it's fine!! it's fine!!! i rewrote about 14k of my book in december and i'm finally entering the final arc so AAAAA. IT'S HAPPENING.

that is still gonna be my main priority for january (rewriting my book, that is). i'm hoping i will FINALLY finish but then again i've said that for like the last six months so we'll see lmfao. and if i DO finish rewrites, hoping i can delve into line edits woooo!!!

i'm hoping to also start doing a bit of querying prep this month (*screams internally*) by which i mean i just wanna at least start refining my query package—i technically have one already that i used to apply to mentorships and whatnot, but it's badly outdated now so uhh need to fix that! i had told myself i'd start querying by end of this month (even if it's just like, sending out One Query for the heck of it). not feeling like that's very likely but... who knows!

but also....i've been so burnt out on my book lately, i really just wanna write at least SOME fanfic this month. i want to write things for fun again, i miss it. :(

*scratches head* well uhhh damn i did not really...do anything i wanted to get done this year.... LMFAO. and even the few things i checked off are things i like barely worked on/started. so, ouch 😅

in my defense... i did not foresee how much work i'd have to do with my book revisions this year. at the beginning of the year i thought i was going into line edits—but around april i realized i needed to do a full rewrite. so i essentially had to start over, and rewrote *checks notes* roughly 83k of it so!! as you can imagine...that was rather time consuming and i did not have much time to work on anything else.

but... i'm trying to look on the bright side: the reason i started over is because of how much i've learned about writing from my mentors and my critique group etc. and looking at my draft from last year vs. this year, i can see a huge improvement! there is still a lot of work to do on this book—but i do feel like in 2023, i fell more in love with the story and characters than ever before (like to the point where i essentially have brain rot for my own ocs... LOL). and i feel like after 2.5 years of hard work, i am starting to see the "real book" starting to emerge from the chaotic mess it was before. so, that's very exciting!!

which brings me to: i'm hoping to maybe....MAYBE...dip my feet into the querying trenches in 2024. i had kinda hoped to do this by end of 2023 but...once again i grossly overestimated how ready my book was at the beginning of the year lololol. but i do feel like once i finish this big rewrite, i'll have less structural/overarching things to fix and more scene-level and line-level edits which (fingers crossed) hopefully will not be quite as involved as, yaknow, rewriting my entire book word by word! SOOO i may be sorta sending out the occasional query as i work on line edit-y stuff (esp bc querying is so slow nowadays haha) so yeahhh haha *sweats profusely*

there are a few other original projects i hope to make progress on this year. firstly, i'd love to continue working on my first draft of my adult fantasy arctic monster wip (maybe...finish a draft? i kinda doubt it but maybe!!). i also hope to keep working on planning a couple other projects, including planning sapphic princess/pirate wip and space western dads wip—both of which i'm very excited about. :)

AAAAND I WANT TO WRITE FIC AGAIN!!!! i really neglected my fic writing in 2023 and i miss it terribly. 😭 i have a lot of wips i want to continue/finish—but i think main priorities will be editing/publishing the last chapter of sylvix dreamscape fic, trying to finish posting at least one of my other ongoing multichapter fics, working more on sylvix pacrim au, aaaand... finishing a draft of one of my other wips perhaps? i don't know, i'm trying to be gentler with myself since i think i had too many specific goals for 2023 and could not meet any of them haha. sooo re: fic writing the general goal is "just have fun and see what happens."

WTF IT'S DECEMBER ALREADY??? this year has flown by.... seriously what the hell.

okay well anyway. so... nanowrimo was a bit of a bust for me. i hadn't really expected to reach 50k, but i had hoped to get a biiiit more done. unfortunately the second half of the month was...not fun for me, so my motivation really tanked.

however! my more important goal this month was to just enjoy writing again since i'd been feeling quite burned out—and i would say i did succeed at that. i started planning a new wip which i'm really excited about, plus i got to rewrite one of my fave arcs of my ya sci-fi book which i had a lot of fun with!! so in that way, i would say i had a successful month and i am feeling a lot more motivated now. :)

that said...i do still have a good chunk of my book left to rewrite. i was really hoping to finish by the end of the year and now of course i only half one more month to do that. *gulps* but, by my calculations, i think i have about 30k left to rewrite aka about 1k per day which is not toooo bad—and if i succeed at that, i should also be able to reach my yearly word count goal. so i am gonna try!!

as has been the case for a long time, i've neglected fic a lot lately and i miss it. :( i did at least wanna go back to revising the last chapter of sylvix dreamscape fic and maybe pass that along to betas by end of december. aaand maybe work on writing/editing some of my other fics if i have time??? but my book is my big priority right now... i'm hoping once i finish this draft, i'll have more time to return to fic again.

i'm gonna be real besties... i'm at sort of a Writing Low right now. i did not meet any of my october goals or even come close. i only worked on my book rewrites on 4 days out of the entire month and i think my rewrites totaled to like... less than 2k. everything else i wrote this month was pretty much just taking miscellaneous notes because i could not bring myself to write/edit. i just haven't been feeling great about my work so it's been hard. but i was also traveling (i went to seattle which was AWESOME!!) and i feel like i needed the break and to step back for a bit, so hopefully that's helped me to clear my head.

i'm (sort of?) participating in nanowrimo—but this time around, i'm telling myself my main goal is just to enjoy writing again. i feel like i've had a hard time feeling excited about writing recently, and i just wanna feel that spark of joy again.

so! one thing i'll be doing this month is outlining (and maybe sorta zero drafting) a shiny new wip which i'm very excited about!! and i'm hoping i can work on some fic too, since i haven't done that in like 2+ months *sobs*

otherwise, i DO actually want to finish my ya sci-fi book rewrites for realsies this time. i had kinda hit a wall with it.... not so much that i'm stuck on what needs to happen, rather that i just ran out of steam i think and got hit really hard with self-doubt and feeling like my book isn't good lol. but, i'm getting into the last big act and there are a lot of scenes i'm excited to add/rewrite, so i'm hoping that'll help propel me towards the end of this draft (PLEASE????).

well... did not meet any of my september goals. oops! i did work on my book rewrites—but as always, i overestimated how much i could get done in a single month lol. and i kinda burned out in the last week of september, partly because i was busy but also just because... i have not felt super confident in my book lately lmao. i was also on hiatus from my mentorship for three months and was hoping to resume it in october but have to put it off for at least another month bc i have not finished this draft...so i'm a bit bummed about that. additionally i have another silly self-imposed goal/deadline that i'm a little worried about but. idk might say more about that next month depending on how things go, haha.

soooo i am hoping to finish rewriting my book by end of this month—a big Maybe, since i have a big chunk left, but i am getting pretty close to the final act so... i might be able to do it? however i'll also be traveling for a week at the end of october, so...We Will See.

i do miss fic terribly so i think i'll allow myself to at least dabble in that this month. it's been a hot second since i updated any of my multichapter fics, so might try to do that. and/or might hop around between some wips and see what inspires me. yay!!
