BOOK REVIEW 🌟🌟 The Library of Light and Shadow by MJ Rose Hmmm... So I can't in all consciousness declare this a 'bookish' book. Yes there are books in it and a loose reference to a library but its not overly booky. That said, not a bad read. Delphine, a La Lune daughter has the ability to paint people's secrets but when one of her paintings accidentally causes a death, she finds herself shying away from her own magic. About half way through the book she is commissioned to paint the secrets of a Chateau, a home, in order to find a lost book belonging to the legendary Nicholas Flammel. A book that contains the elixir of life, the secrets of both Alchemy and immortality. A decent book, the third in this series (but fine to be read as a stand alone also) I liked the appearence of many famous artists in the book and the symbolism of light and shadow is evident. The Variant Series by Jena Leigh Review

Let me just start by saying how much I love the concept for this series. I have always been a big fan of "X-Men" like stories so naturally I was drawn to this series. This series might not have made it to my top 5 favourite series of the year but it has definitely been an enjoyable read. I was initially reluctant to read this series because it was told from a third person perspective but then I remembered my other favourite series, The Infernal Devices and Six of Crows were also written this way so I decided to give this series a go and let me just say I was not disappointed. Although, I might have kept in on my TBR list a little longer if I had known this is an incomplete series. I really hope the author comes up with the next book soon. Ok on to the actual review itself: What I liked: -How smart this story is written. It was obvious the author really thought through her writing process because all the confusing parts in the first two books were answered and explained well in the next 2 books. -Multiple points of views. I love how we got to see what all the different characters were thinking(even the villains). What I didn't like so much: -The romance. This is completely in my own opinion and might be because I have been reading many contemporary romance before starting this series. I just felt like the romance in this book lacked depth. It was definitely very sweet and Alex and Declan were just the cutest but I felt something missing from it. For example in the 2nd book there was that misunderstanding with the whole Jessica thing but it was never actually properly addressed. I personally would have preferred if the author actually showed us the conversation between the pair the next day instead of just saying they interacted for a bit without showing what was being said. -This is pretty minor but I was quite annoyed no one apologised to Alex for keeping her in the sidelines. I thought finally someone was going to apologise after Alex had her little outburst in the 4th book but besides Nate who just explained his actions (without apologising) no one else seemed to address Alex's concerns after that. -Brian deserved better. I hope the next book comes out soon because after that ending, I need it.
