{Book Review} Misprized is one of our latest reads & it was a great tale featuring a human girl that enters blindly into an impossible quest!! This is the story of Severine, an adventurous independent young lady that sees the world with wonder while also seeking a peaceful life. I loved how despite being sheltered she was not afraid to take on the challenge of thwarting the fearsome king in search of ingredients to stop a deadly disease that promises to doom them all. And then there is so much to learn of the magical world that she’s living in, from the mythological creatures she’s being forced to compete to the history of this world. Misprized is a compelling, high-stakes story with the chosen one trope (that I will never grow tired of reading) & it’s the perfect fantasy book to add to your TBR! 😍🤎 .

Wild is the Witch is a YA fantasy coming-of-age novel set in a fictional universe where Witches are accepted in society. This was a cottage core dreamscape of a book with tons of cozy vibes. It's the kind of book you read cuddled up next to your dog, with a cup of herbal tea or a glass of wine and “Amas Veritas” from Practical Magic playing to complete the mood.

I really liked the main character, Iris, who had a magical way with nature and animals. I thought she was relatable and a realistic exampe/depiction of anxiety and PTSD. The male lead, Pike, is nerdy-cute (which I am a sucker for) and their banter is fun and entertaining. The story was lighthearted and a fun adventure, but great conflict with real and detrimental consequences to keep you on your toes.

It’s #bannedbookweek and I started with #bridgetoterabithia by #katherinepaterson The movie based on this book made me ugly cry when it came out, but I loved it. I kept putting off #reading it though because I thought the book would hit harder. I’m glad I finally did because the book was so good. I also loved the interview with both the author and her son who directed the movie. People want to ban this book because of the death scene. They think it’s not appropriate for young kids, but this is based on a similar incident that happened to her son. Kids have to deal with death especially in our current situation living through a pandemic and all. This kept me paralyzed on the edge of my seat! Thank you to @stmartinspress and @megangoldinauthor for a chance to read this eARC! This thriller comes out August 9 and you can preorder now via B&N, Amazon, or your local bookstore. Two years and three months ago someone tried to kill Liv. There’s just one problem - she can’t remember who made an attempt on her life or any new memories she has processed since. Liv was able to recover and relocate to London to start anew and with the help of a journal outlining her life for her and visual guides in her home recommended by a helpful social worker, she’s been able to move on from her past, until now. Something causes her to snap from her routine and fly back to Brooklyn, where everything started. She begins to wake up every day thinking it’s the day she almost died, burns her journal, and is only able to work from the notes on her arm and hands while hopped up on caffeine and paranoia. Liv finds herself at the center of a murder investigation with her prints all over it with no memory of whether she was involved or assurance as to whether she is at risk. Will she be able to assemble the pieces and clear her name or will she learn that she is indeed a cold blooded killer? I absolutely loved this! I’m an avid thriller reader and I’ve never read anything quite like this. I was immediately swept up in Liv’s fight for the truth. I enjoyed the cut between two years ago (the attempted murder of Liv and the other murders), the recent past (as she searched for truth and leading up to Ted’s murder), and the present day. It allowed for the reader to have just enough information to keep you baited and on the edge of your seat. I strongly recommend for thriller/mystery lovers out there! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 5/5

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is a Vimpire Romance meets the Hunger Games, with FMC like Jude from the Cruel Prince (a human girl raised to be cunning and ruthless, surrounded by her predators) and a Love Interest I like to call Sexy Vampire Flynn Ryder, for his good looks, witticism, and general doting of our FMC. The plot was entertaining, the writing was full of imagery and prose, the action scenes were artful and intense, and the world-building was colorful and creative. From start-to finish, I was enraptured by this book, finding it hard to put down, and reading it over the course of two days. If I don't read another book this year, I am thrilled to have ended my 2022 reading journey with a book so amazing as my experience has been with The Serpent and the Wings of Night.

**Spoilers from here on**

I am in love with Broadbent's storytelling and structuring. Her use of foreshadowing is skillful, giving you enough to create suspense tension but to still make the moment impactful and emotional once it arrives. Ex. You know from the first few lines that the king will die by the end of the book, but the scene where it finally happens is gutwrenching. Another great example is how Oraya's life is meant to parallel the Goddess Nyaxia's journey. Every round of the trials is meant to symbolize a part of Nyaxia's legendary journey, and by the end of that trial, Oraya herself has grown in some way as well. Nyaxia's husband dies, which foreshadows that Raihn is going to die as well. Nyaxia defies and kills her family/the White Pantheon to become more powerful than she has ever been, which foreshadows that Oraya will do the same. I found it was genius.

The tension between Raihn and Oraya was intoxicating. From the beginning, their chemistry was incredible. Their growth in their allyship, forced to work together and forced to find comradery, was overshadowed by the fact that, by the end of this book, they would have to fight to the death, resulting in some incredibly emotional scenes. I was on the edge of my seat and on the verge of my tears in Chapter 33, when Raihn takes Oraya to the streets after a night of friendship and drinking and offers himself for her to kill. The way my heart broke at the end of Chapter 48!! Broadbent really knows how to write emotionally damaging scenes.

I will be patiently waiting for Book 2 in this Duology, and rereading this book hundreds of times until then.

Still making my way through my #middlegradereadinglist with #flightofthepuffin by #annbraden. This book…THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD!!! I loved all the characters and how their stories eventually intertwined. I wish I had known about this book when I used to take the kids I nannied to leave #ROAK painted rocks on walking trails, or hand drawn bookmarks in books at the library/bookstore/little free library or one of their favorites, taping microwave popcorn to Redbox machines.
