I don’t know if anyones pointed it out yet, but Floyd is silly. Goofy as hell. Even if he doesn’t have much of an outward personality in the movie, his dialogue shows a lot of character.
Most of those boyband puns in the script come from him, and he’s sarcastic towards Velvet and Veneer in such a way that shows he’s naturally witty and quick-thinking. Calling them “talent-stealing succubi”, quipping about a “desperate Christmas album or one-off national anthem performance”, commenting on his imprisonment and impending death in a off-handed snappy way (“Yea sure, dying sucks but at least it's for some sweet 'bling a ding' and some boho chic home furnishings.”) Floyd’s funny.
He’s naturally resourceful and charismatic as well. He hatched an almost-successful escape attempt and almost convinced Veneer to release him too! He wasn’t just taking his imprisonment lying down; he was probably constantly constructing plans in his mind and subtly manipulating Crimp and Veneer when Velvet wasn’t there. If things went slightly differently, or if he had more time, he probably could have escaped on his own.
I know he was typecast as “the sensitive one” in the boyband and doesn’t have much of a role besides being the victim of V&V’s scheme, but there are crumbs here and there that I definitely enjoy and think about.

Tag Game
I was tagged by @randomfoggytiger. Thanks for thinking about me!
Favourite painter: Oh, this is a tough one. I'm drawn to works from artists like Monet, Botticelli, Andrew Wyeth, Mucha, Van Gogh, Michelangelo. I'm all over the place. I'm not even going to try to list fandom artists. There are too many and I don't want to risk leaving anyone out.
Favourite writer: Again, more than one. Just off the top of my head: Stephen King, Justin Cronin, Chuck Windig, George R.R. Martin, Gillian Flynn. Generally writers who are really good at creating memorable characters who straddle the line dividing good and evil. As George put it so eloquently, stories that explore the human heart in conflict with itself. Bowing out on fanfic writers here, too. There are too many to list.
Favourite band: Now and for the last decade, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit.
Favourite meal and drink: At this point in my life any food that anyone other than me cooks and sets in front of me. But I do enjoy farm to table that's not too fussy or complicated. Keep it simple and clean and flavorful. Add a glass of semi-dry wine and I'm good to go.
Favourite outfit aesthetic: I don't know that I have one. If I must be pinned down I'll go with boho/hippie. There's nothing I love more than simple blue jeans or leggings with a t-shirt or flowy blouse. But I refuse to wear dresses unless it's a wedding or a funeral. I don't have legs one would want to show off. Genetics gifted me with, as my mom once put it, "peasant legs". Also the 14 inch scar on my left leg from numerous surgeries isn't very aesthetically pleasing. I prefer to keep it covered.
Favourite singer: Another one I can't cull to just one. Jason Isbell, Van Morrison, Bob Seger, Beth Hart, Amos Lee, Ray LaMontagne, John Mayer, Stevie Nicks, Joy Oladakun. That's just a start. Unique voices, I guess.
Favourite item I own: Well, those of us who have pets are often referred to as pet *owners*, right? So I'll go with Levon the Cat, though I'm pretty sure he owns me and not the other way around.
Favourite possession: My carefully curated fandom items. Mostly my collection of BATB fanzines and TXF memorabilia. All of those, as well as the things I've been bequeathed or were given to me by family members/friends who are no longer with us. Knick-knacks, art and pieces of antique furniture from my mom and oldest brother; an unreleased album of songs written and performed by my bestest friend in the world - all of which were written with me serving as muse. Other things that I don't like to think about too much because it's painful. But all of them cherished.
Favourite perfume: Black Opium. It smells like all my favorite scents combined.
Tagging anyone who'd like to play!

Elsabela: Perfect Song
CW: Drugs, Ice, Lana Del Rey, Plants
Good morning, afternoon, or evening to anyone reading my post! Thank you for taking the time out of your day or night to read my post.
While I was doing my homework, I was listening to Lana Del Rey. I would not consider myself a Lana stan, but I do enjoy quite a few of her songs, especially ones from her Ultraviolence album.
While I was listening to Lana Del Rey's 2014 song "Brooklyn Baby", I thought that it would be the perfect song for an Elsabela fanfiction. For textual evidence, I have quoted some lyrics below:
First, "They think I don't understand The freedom land of the seventies"
Both Elsa and Isabela wear costumes inspired by 1970s fashion movement, specifically punk and boho.
Tumblr media
In addition, both of them crave freedom and self-expression.
Tumblr media
Next, "I think I'm too cool to know ya You say I'm like the ice, I freeze"
Yes, I am stating the obvious.
Tumblr media
Third, "They judge me like a picture book By the colors, like they forgot to read"
As they sing about in "Let it Go", "Show Yourself", and "What Else Can I Do", people have seen them solely as beautiful, perfect "proper ladies", when they are actually more than perfect princesses.
Tumblr media
Fourth, "But I'm free, ooh-ooh I'm free"
Similar to my third point, both ladies crave freedom.
Tumblr media
Fifth, "I'm talking about my generation Talking about that newer nation"
Both of them at least influence major social change in their respective hometowns.
Tumblr media
Sixth, "And if you don't like it, you can beat it Beat it, baby You never liked the way I said it If you don't get it, then forget it 'Cause I don't have to f*ck*n' explain it"
While I don't think either of them would be that rude to someone, they both have dealt with people, especially parents/grandparents not understanding them or allowing them to express their true selves.
Tumblr media
Second to last, "I've got [flowers] in my hair I get h*gh on hydroponic w**d"
After "What Else Can I Do", Isabela realizes that she can make more than decorative flowers, likely including "medicinal herbs". In addition, I am sure she is interested in learning new gardening techniques.
Tumblr media
Last, "Yeah, my [girl]friend's pretty cool But [she]'s not as cool as me"(Lana Del Rey, Barrie-James O'Neill)
They are both cool ladies, especially in the eyes of their younger sisters.
Tumblr media
Ironically, according to Matthew Jacobs for Huffington Post, Lana Del Rey's song "Brooklyn Baby" is a piece of satire about 2010s-era New York City hipsters and hipster culture. (Jacobs). To state the obvious, Isabela and Elsa are not 2010s-era NYC hipsters, at least in canon and the majority of fanfictions, as their stories are set in small towns in the 19th/20th century, and they are not pretentious or elitist about their personal tastes, which people think of hipsters being.
Overall, the song encapsulates their relationship and personal lives well.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day or night to read my post. Have a good day or night!

Okay, inspired by @dollsinvogue’s most recent post about the wave 1 refresh dolls, here’s what I’m hoping for! First off, I’m thinking everyone gets at least a few accessories, including a phone, plus there was a hint about a pet which tbh feels a little too similar to monster high but okay MGA forgo subtlety. As for the slime, I’m hoping it’ll be like the og slime rainbow surprise girlies, ie optional, or something like what novi stars used to do with their lava-lamp-esque dolls only in the pets or stands or accessories or whatever lol.
Ruby: my Supreme darling…is supposedly a sneaker head? Lmao okay so that’s why MGA gave her two pairs of heels right. What’s that? Her accessories pack? It’s also heels. MGA come on what the hell. I know jade was supposed to be “girl in sneakers” (and sunny sort of ig) but come ON. Ruby rerelease comes in a supreme insp outfit complete w a Supreme beanie, Supreme shirt, her signature red jeans (with a more bold graphic design to them. More graffiti!!), and a big red puffer. Her shoes are red heeled sneakers, because that’s my compromise w mga, with graffiti art details. Her accessories are spray paint cans in red gold and black, detailing brushes, a can of sealant, and a blank pair of sneakers for YOU to customize (doesn’t come w markers but any washable markers/colors are fine a la color create). Her pet is a red snake named Firebrand a la g3 hissette (wearable).
Poppy: my beachiest beach girl! She’s so sweet and one of my favorites from wave 1. She’s kind of a mix of different styles and brands, the most noticeable for me being her off white “for flying” boots. First of all: poppy now has full body freckles like Victoria. I love that she has blue eyes bc I think they’re lovely w her hair, but brown eyes would also be gorgeous w the overall orange theme. I’d like to keep the monarch butterfly theme bc it’s peak so she’ll keep the butterfly clips and second shoes. She’s definitely getting a beachier boho vibe, starting w a blouse similar to her jh. Tbh maybe even as a blousy flowy dress. Her accessories are of COURSE her monarch headphones bc those are so good and how have we not gotten them, plus a few vinyls of the rainbow high albums and a laptop to DJ from. Her pet is a giant monarch butterfly named Mari, which can clip onto her arm.
Sunny: yellow is my favorite color so I’m so so biased about sunny but she’s my girl and I’d die for her. First of all, new face sculpt: she’s got the AA face sculpt for sure this time. Second of all, new hairstyle. I think she’d be super cute with little twists, including little twist blunt bangs. She styles it in the twin buns still, plus she does her edges under the bangs. She’s also got Lila’s bandaid and stickers for peak kawaii. I like her yellow green eyes but I wish rh had more black girls w brown eyes so i think warm yellow brown would be gorgeous too. Her outfit is an oversized yellow rain slicker, slouchy pastel yellow sweater with sun and moon elbow patches, a chunky decora necklace, bright yellow denim shorts, her rainbow knee highs, and a pair of yellow rain boots. Her accessories are a sketchbook, rainbow colored pencils, a pencil sharpener, an eraser, a laptop with an art program on it, and mini stickers to put on either the laptop or the pages of the sketchbook. Her pet is a little yellow shiba named Kawaii with a pastel rainbow collar.
Jade: my edgy tomboy!! She’s cute in wave 1 but not quite edgy enough (the common complaint w jade) and a little too Billie eilish (the other common complaint w jade). The big t shirt and knee length shorts can stay bc those are rad as hell, plus she’s got some nice refs to anti social social club (less popular than when the dolls released but still a thing). Her new shirt is the same oversized black but with glow in the dark skulls and hearts in addition to the anti sparkle sparkle club. Her shorts are the same graffiti with chains for drawstrings and a little more detailing. Her puffer is cute but I think she’d be cuter w an oversized black and green hoodie, also w the assc logo. Sneakers are a yes but hello Um can you put on socks jade. Even black mesh is better than nothing. I prefer her balenciaga sneakers so more of that lol. Biggest difference will be in the face though bc my girl is a makeup focus w the most boring face lmaoooo. She’s getting a black lip, graphic black eyeliner, and neon green eyeshadow. Her brows are on point and her contour is insane. She still has her beanie in green, but instead of her current hair she has a black side shave and a choppier punker cut. Her accessories are all makeup related, including an eyeshadow palette, compact powder blush, three different lipsticks (red, green, black), mascara, eyeliner, false lashes (non usable),and a full set of makeup brushes. Her pet is a giant black and green tarantula named Billie that can clip onto her shoulder.
Skyler: so sweet, so shy, so underutilized by MGA. I love her denim color theme, esp in her hair, so I’m keeping that for sure. I also love her references to off white, since they’re more focused than poppy’s. This time sky comes w tight coily curly hair and a mixed face sculpt. She’s got high waisted denim bell bottoms w massive bells, almost like JNCO jeans (which would also be a great denim callback), a white cotton cropped turtleneck tank top, and a tailored denim jacket. She still has her off white heels but tbh the shoes are less important for this fit bc the pants are the focal lol. Her accessories are really similar to the rh w5 accessories: a sewing machine and accoutrement. She also has a design sketchbook a la fantastic fashion, a small sewing kit, and three bolts of different denim (light, medium, dark). Her pet is a bright blue bird named Lark that can also clip to her shoulder.
Violet: notorious for constantly giving us nothing, I’m gonna try and finally fix violet. She has the standard Asian face sculpt with purple blue eyes and long straight violet hair w blunt bangs. Her original release felt like her vibe was posh party girl, so I’d like to lean into that with a light purple sequin two piece skirt set, fluffy glittery cropped coat, and glittery party heels. She’s got glittery barrettes holding her hair back behind her bangs and a light purple clutch purse (equally glittery ofc). Her accessories are a selfie stick w ring light for her phone, a laptop with photo editing software, and a larger desktop ring light that actually lights up. Her fluffy white cat Mr. Whiskers finally makes his debut as well, sporting a violet collar.

Very much not a country sounding song to me, definitely Gwen’s album. I think this is the song that was recorded in Nashville with in person musicians in the studio with them. Their clothes look the same as that day, and I recognize the musicians I think and the studio. It had that same boho look. There was a comment that Gwen had never recorded a song like that with musicians in the studio with her at the same time and the musicians were more rock musicians than country musicians so this makes sense.
A lot of country doesn’t sound very country anymore.

2024 menu planning
I came across the idea of making a menu of things to do in the new year rather than resolutions. Sounds like fun!
Visit Palm Springs with my camera in tow and also a lot of sunscreen
More time in swimming pools
Make a chic garment from my Saint Sebastian fabric
Host/attend at least one party that combines glamour and queer filth
Find another album as sexy as Age of Pleasure and listen to it a lot
Go to a bathing spa
Add at least one more dish to dinner rotation that is heavy on vegetables with colours other than potato
Find the most decadent tisane and drink it in the afternoons
Slowly replace mismatched dishes with cobalt blue fiestaware
Fully embrace how much I don't like boho chic and do like things to match
Keep making wardrobe pieces so that I can throw on two garments and an underpant in the morning and feel dressed more days of the week
Sew up test undergarments until I can also make those in comfy shapes and sizes
Feel good enough about my entire physical being to take selfies more than the last three years

Asks number 6, 26, 28 for you as well now that's you've got me in a musical mood 💛🎶 and finally 29!
6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear?
Tomboy or grunge, I like feeling masc lmao. Or whatever you'd call my.... outfit (that feels like a strong word lol) for today, ie jeans, hoodie, giant wool trenchcoat that was my mom's from the 80s.
26. favorite activity to do in warm weather?
Kayaking! none of that whitewater adrenaline stuff, just give me an afternoon on a placid lake and let me poke around and watch herons and muskrat for hours. I'm really hoping that when I get an adultier adult job I can get myself a nice broad comfy kayak and do like. day trips. pack a lunch and a book and just sit on a pond and chill
28. five songs to describe you?
this is hard rip. I tend to listen to albums front to back, so picking individual songs is Hard TM.
We Are Alive by Springsteen
Famous Last Words by MCR
Spring and a Storm by Tally Hall
The Kids Aren't Alright by The Offspring
Open All Night by Springsteen, but specifically the like 8 and a half minute version off the Live In Dublin album
29. best way to bond with you?
parallel play probably tbh lol. just let me do my hobbies and you can do your hobbies and we can sit in the same room and watch movies or something. otherwise just... letting me ramble about my interests, whether it be games or conservation or niche star wars opinions or whatever lol.
(in case anyone wants the full list)

genuinely love seeing people in the tags of that 90s aesthetic post like "god i was a teen in the 90s and think this stuff is SO ugly, glad it's over" because like. well first of all it rules and you're wrong. and second of all there's gonna be people nostalgic for 2010s indie album boho chic in 10 years and i'm going to hate it too

Albums of 2023 part 2
And so, on from part 1, we continue. This is more dreamy synth-dub that sits perfectly next to the Harrow album: Richard Norris is another artist with an extraordinarily long and illustrious career but who also has never lost the exploratory urge and total delight in sonic finesse.
Tumblr media
Honestly Uruguayan-in-Ireland Lila Tirando a Violeta is right up there with the very best of the "deconstructed club" generation - dark, gothic, complex, VERY WEIRD - and this collab with Berliner Sin Maldita is up there with her best. It's really, REALLY intense!
Tumblr media
Just impossibly beautiful elegies from ambient harpist Mary Lattimore which builds towards the final track collaboration with Slowdive's Rachel Goswell that is so lovely it will single handedly bring back swooning as a popular pastime.
Tumblr media
Officially an EP but there's enough here to cement Nia Archives's place as a heavyweight - add "Off Wiv Ya Headz" and that Jorja Smith remix, and she's had a humdinger of a 2023....
Tumblr media
Saw some discourse suggesting that Burna Boy is resting on his laurels here, but I don't hear it. Maybe it's the fact that the cover looks dashed-off? But musically, this bangs: it expertly joins so many dots but keeps his voice and personality right at the heart of it.
Tumblr media
I mean come on there was no way a collab between Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist was going to be anything but good, right? Just purest essence of deep and dreamy stoner hip hop. Yet another small (27min) but beautifully formed album - definitely a trend there.
Tumblr media
Feels kind of (literally) sacrilegious to say I prefer Cleo Sol's more personal, less scriptural records (e.g. Rose in the Dark) - and this is, top to bottom, a gospel album - but the conviction to her performance and the whole realisation of it here is still really magical.
Tumblr media
From Coventry via Skopje, man like NOT_MDK's first album in 23 years, and he's zooming into the deep flows that join grime and dubstep into the longer, deeper electronic funk continuum... These tracks are so crisp and crunchy!
Tumblr media
She's from Turkey but Ahu's been plugged into the London Plastic People / NTS / etc scene for years - file this with Yazmin Lacey and similar LDN soul-jazz, also it's very Boho and vibesy and incensey, definitely one to light your best candles for.
Tumblr media
Can't remember who put me on to this, possibly Radio 3? Anyway if cold wet misty Scottish hillsides are your jam Claire M Singer has you covered - these slower-than-slowly unfolding organ-led pieces practically smell of wet moss, and are extremely beautiful.
Tumblr media
He's lent vocals to a who's who of electronic music, but it turns out Paul St Hilaire's own studio craft is the equal of just about any of them - this is just a stunning, ocean-deep album of dub abstraction and subtly potent lyricism.
Tumblr media
Icelander Eva Jóhannsdóttir aka EVA808 has already made a name in the dubstep/grime world but this is her really spreading her creative wings. Mad psychedelia, elemental abstraction, movie-theme composition - there's not much she can't do. Big things beckon!
Tumblr media
There's still SO much to say about amapiano, and so much incredible UK, SA and wider world stuff last year (this isn't even the only great DJ Maphorisa album - he had THREE out in 2023, including a mini album with Shino Kikai and a 25-track one with fellow originator Kabza De Small!!). Suffice to say this has gorgeous songs, primal grooves, endlessly sophisticated mixdowns and bass that'll take your breath away.
Tumblr media
Just gonna link to my review for this one (it's got the music embedded) - but TL;DR Darren J Cunningham aka Actress is the holy prophet of the era of enshittification, yet for all that his music is constantly "off" and made for a world that is "off", he alchemises it into real gold.
Tumblr media
Yeah I'm going to be THAT space-jazz hipster and say this is the record I wish Andre3000 (who is on it, and Carlos Niño co-produced his album) had made. It's just a more lavish, free, FUN way to cavort with the five-dimensional fractal machine elves.
Tumblr media
Zoning in on the platonic breakbeat mathematics that underly Jersey / B'more club Chicago hip house, UK rave, trip hop etc, Bored Lord could seem arch or retro if her beats weren't so gloriously functional and bumping.
Tumblr media
Fed up of generic records? You will never EVER find another one that sounds like IFS MA. Polish abstract slightly Autechre-y footwork / drum'n'bass with Japanese rapper MA sounding like a cyborg beat poet Taliban Trim and I.... 🤯
Tumblr media
Every man jack and their dog are doing high bpm retro rave lately but you can trust Meemo Comma to put a fresh and uneasy twist on it. These tracks will get you proper buzzing up loud! I got to DJ for her live performance of this at Spiritland earlier in the year, hearing them on that system was a real treat.
Tumblr media
You get a twofer with this one. Phil Kieran's ode to Belfast is gorgeous in studio form here, but he also recorded and released a version with the Ulster Orchestra that single handedly revivifies the idea of electronic music done classical style!
Tumblr media
Two true underground troupers teaming up here - Jordan GCZ from Juju & Jordash and David "Move D" Moufang with some otherworldly good-dream ambient, deep house and space-soul jams heavy on the Fender Rhodes, fuzzy reverberation and sensually sweeping portamento.
Tumblr media
My musical safe place for so much of this year. Brooklyn "electronic jam band" Purelink somehow burrowed into electronic music history and found the softest, happiest, warmest fur lined chamber and then invited us in. I cannot emphasise enough how LOVELY this record is.
Tumblr media
More modular synth grooves from E Ruscha aka Secret Circuits, but no over-indulgence here and the grooves REALLY DO GROOVE. Trippy as a weasel circus and twice as funky.
Tumblr media
Talking of trippy, here's Optimo Music's second acid-drenched entry, from the man formerly known as TB Arthur and the mighty Magda trading as Blotter Trax, it's a kind of parallel universe early 80s alt disco where everything gurgles and melts.
Tumblr media
More from South Africa - King Mzaiza Sound via the reliably tough Parisian PSSNGR label - not 100% sure what you'd call this though it definitely has some gqom sonics, some trap drums, and some strident rap vocals... It's HARD AS NAILS is what it is.
Tumblr media
EVEN HARDER - Nyege Nyege brought us a sampler of this (and I don't use mental health language lightly) FUCKING MENTAL shrieking, raging, solvent-huffing sound from São Paulo stewarded by the young DJ K, and it's extremely funky and scarily thrilling.
Tumblr media
OK there we go, part three is here.....

Soul Coughing/ Jeff Buckley Rock the House
Great American Music Hall on Thursday
night (May 4, 1995)
By MTV News Staff
May 6, 1995
12:00 AM
Editor's Note: We found a pile of notes on the recent Jeff
Buckley/Soul Coughing concert scribbled by our business manager, Steve McConnell. They were almost unintelligible, but after hours and hours of deciphering, we were able to piece together the following report.
Listen to Soul Coughing's debut album, Ruby Vroom, and you'd think the New York-based quartet were beat poets messing around with samples. See them in person however, and it is clear that they are from the New York white-boy school of rap (think low-keyed Beastie Boys). That was the most surprising thing about their terrific hour-long performance at the Great American Music Hall on Thursday night (May 4).
"You all don't have to get up," said leader singer/rapper M. Doughty, as Soul Coughing took the stage. "I was kinda digging that campfire thing." He was directing his comments to the nearly 100 people sitting cross-legged on the floor of San Francisco's Great American Music Hall.
Ruby Vroom has received some remarkable (and well deserved) reviews. The New Yorker called it "one of the best records of 1994"; Details noted that "this is some serious boho, Dada shit." Live, the group more than lived up to such praise.
Soul Coughing is comprised of Sebastian Steinberg on upright bass; Yuval Gabay, drums; M'Ark De Gli Antoni, keyboards/samples; and Doughty on guitar and vocals. They emerged from the New York avant garde jazz scene (John Zorn gets a word of thanks in the album credits). Live, the group brought together elements of Morphine (the driving bass and narrative style), Digable Planets ( rap set to jazz samples) and the Beasties. But where Digable Planets come from the rap world and the Beasties arrived via punk, Soul Coughing bring a distinctive bohemian jazz sensibility to the mix.
At the Music Hall, they performed nearly the entire album. Highlights included "Casiotone Nation," "Mr. Bitterness," "Down To This" and the amazing "Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago," which included the line "San Mateo is in the house." After performing that song, noting the enthusiastic response, Doughty said, "I guess San Mateo is in the house."
Headliner Jeff Buckley was in fine form, performing one of the most rocking sets of his current tour (at least according to a fan who saw the last four shows), stretching out many of the songs and improvising. Buckley played a taped-up red Rickenbacker six string guitar; his voice sounded even more beautiful and emotional than on his debut album, Grace. At one point someone from the audience yelled, "Shonen Knife?" "OK," replied Buckley, then played two minutes of a Shonen Knife song while the rest of the band smirked. Half way through the set Buckley played a loud and raucous version of the MC5's "Kick Out the Jams."

The Secret History of Queen
Rick Johnson, Creem, 1st August 1981
TIME CAPSULE OR HAZARDOUS WASTES?
1968—Freddie Mercury meets Brian May and Roger Taylor (then members of the group Smile) in Art School. Brian first heard to say “Freddie! Not in front of company!"
1970—Smile splits up after releasing one single (“Earth”). Brian asks Freddie if he wants to start a new band. “Do octopi have suckers?” Fred replies.
1971—“Lucky” seventh bass player, John Deacon, joins up. Excitement level reaches #4. Bullet Maintenance.
1972—Queen meets Roy Thomas Baker, who, along with John Anthony; produces demos for the band that help them land a contract with EMI. Anthony later pleads “diminished responsibility.”
1973—Debut album proves to be as popular as minimizing civilian casualties. “Around the rime and out,” sez CREEM.
1974—Queen II released. You remember, the one with the black side and the white side that’re both on the wrong side? “Soft core pomp,” sez CREEM.
—Queen supports Mott the Hoople at New York’s Uris Theatre as the first rock bands to play Broadway.
—Brian May’s annual attack of hepatitis forces early cancellation. Although his guitar style is considered rather treacly at this point, you know what they say—good kelp is so hard to find.
—Q II voted album of the year in Japan. The prize: front row seats at the creation of Pink Lady. “Can I lick the spoon?” asks Freddie.
—Sheer Heart Attack recorded for 25,000 pounds sterling (about $1.79 in U.S. funds).
—“Killer Queen” is an international smasharoo. Joe Fernbacher thinks “orgone bleats” for first time.
1975—Night At The Opera released. “Poignancy at its cutest,” sez CREEM.
—“Bohemian Rhapsody” squats at the top of the U.K. charts for seven weeks. Migration officials begin working overtime.
—New Musical Express readers pick Queen as “Best Stage Band” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” as “Best Single.” But the group itself remains the #2 band after Led Zep. This is about as big a deal as being the second most beloved woman in Argentina.
—More awards from NME: First Annual Jobriath Memorial Award for being “last band to make it off the glam-rock bandwagon.” First Annual Freddie Mercury I’ve-Got-A-Tiger-In-My-Trousers Award goes to Jim Dandy!
—Sept. CREEM DREEM appearance temporarily appeases the sun-suit set.
1976—“This year, I can at least sit up!” boasts Freddie.
—Group cans previous management and signs on with Elton John’s manager, John Reid. “So what?” say many.
—At promo bash for the group, Bette Midler punches out then-Mr. Big of radio programming, Paul Drew, for reputedly saying her record is “as quaint an idea as researching an article."
—New Of The World unleashes “We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You” on unsuspecting public. Snuffbrats everywhere rejoice, but CREEM insists that “Queen is the Sha Na Na of rock’s modem age.”
—Joe Zdeb bats .297.
—Study shows that one out of every two American families has at least one member who suffers from motion sickness.
1978—Jazz LP becomes most ignored effort by major act since Tanya Tucker’s attempted suicide. “A parody of their own uselessness,” sez CREEM.
—Joe Zdeb’s batting avg. slips to .252.
—“Today the pond, tomorrow the world!” promo for the movie Frogs becomes Queen fans’ battle cry.
1979—Live Killers released, including controversial pre-taped version of “Boho Rhapsody.” “A typically uncompromising move,” sez the liner notes. “Oh, what a first!”as they say in the new biodegradable tampon ads.
—“Makes you feel like someone is peeing on your grave,” sez CREEM.
—Public response to purchasing a live album that features tapes from previous LPs? Well, if words could deep-fry, Queen would now be a pile of onion rings.
1980—The Game is group’s best-selling album yet. Looks like Merc and the boys have their heels on the pulse of the nation. “Gutless and artificial,” sez CREEM.
—“Another One Bites The Dust” reaches ridiculous heights of popularity for a song that sounds like Trigger counting to six.
—Detroit Lions adopt “Dust” as theme song and promptly lose five games in a row.
1981—Flash Gordon soundtrack released; becomes biggest selling soundtrack album with a yellow cover in first fiscal quarter of ’81. “If Freddie Mercury is ever in a movie,” CREEM meant to say, “the female lead will be Jamie Lee Curtis.”
THE NINE JUICIEST RUMORS ABOUT QUEEN
1. Brian to leave and join Sparks?
2. Before settling on Queen, other names considered included Princess Phones, The Thinkophants, Genotype Cointoss and The John Deacon Experience.
3. Brian to leave and join Kool and the Gang?
4. It was Freddie that tossed the cherry bomb which almost blinded Steven Tyler.
5. Billie Jean King and Freddie boy an item? Wait’ll he finds out what a strong backhand really is.
6. Brian to leave and join Doobie Bros.?
7. Almost 17 years ago, young Frederico’s dentist forgot to tell him to rinse and he still hasn’t!
8. John Deacon is dead.
9. John Deacon isn’t dead.
QUEEN VS. SLIM WHITMAN
“Bohemian Rhapsody” ’s streak of seven weeks at number one is the second longest in British chart history. The champ: American folk hero Slim Whitman, who topped the charts for eleven weeks in 1955.
“Will they be on Hee Haw too?” asks Slim.
INSPIRATIONAL VERSE
“I suck your mind, you blow my head”
DID YOU KNOW...
* Freddie calls everyone “Dear.”
* A can of 2,000 flushes only lasts John three days.
* The band retains a year-around crew whether they’re touring or not, including the guy who hands John a triangle for one note.
* The chief influence on their Flash Gordon movie music was Zither and Zaza’s monumental soundtrack for Prom Night.
* Groucho Marx was given a complimentary Queen II jacket shortly before his death.
* Freddie is a ping-pong champion and hockey expert.
* After the U.S. and Japan, their biggest market is Australia.
* Brian was an astronomer for four years.
* The prize they really received for their Japanese Album of the Year Award was a wooden comb. Well, at least it wasn’t a teriyaki burger.
* Roger takes forty vitamins a day.
* Masquerading as Larry Lurex, Queen had a British chartbuster with a remake of the golden oldie “I Can Hear Music.”
* John Deacon is dead.
* The front of a 1952 Buick looks just like Lon Chaney.
* Japanese fans write the boys letters about the “world situation.” “Situation?”—BM “World?”—JD
PIGSQUEAL ZOOTING?
Some Words On Queen In Concert:
* “The nasty Queenies are back!”—Freddie kicks off second or third U. S. tour.
* “I got chills...hasn’t been anything like it since the Beatles... no one has ever really done ‘Jailhouse Rock’ like they did.”—C. Dagnall, CREEM.
* “Lusty beavers...pigsqueal zooting.”— anon. CREEM.
* “Stunning... they have a sense of Showbiz humor that saves their songs...” L. Robinson, NME.
* “OLD HAT... AMATEUR... NO BIG DEAL... TOO COY... PUNCHLESS... STIFFLY POSED FOOLS... DEMANDING.” K. Nicholson, CREEM
* "Let’s face it, Freddie has got more and more preposterous onstage. ”—Roger.
* “An impossible combination, like singles charts and scimitars.”—J. Mori, Hit Parader.
* “Whether they deserve this acclaim is, of course, a different matter entirely.”—T. Stewart, NME.
* “Totally hopeless...not unlike a Kiss concert.” L. Danna, Trouser Press.
* “That’s the horrible thing about running away—you always meet yourself when you get there.”—Scientist in The Leech Woman.
* “Excellent background music for looking over wallpaper samples or just plain becoming a sissy.”—R. Coathanger, CREEM
* “Tune the fucking guitar!”—many.
CRIMP ME, YOU FOOL!
“I was struck by how Freddie, along with Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell and quite possibly Mick Jagger, was another candidate for my special Overbite Issue of Hit Parader. ”
—Lisa R’s first impression of “Choppers” Mercury
THE REAL STORY BEHIND "KILLER QUEEN”
“It’s about a high class call girl. I’m trying to say that classy people can be whores as well.”—Freddie
FREDDIE SEZ...
More Lip Drool From Zanzibar:
* “We’re not merely a load of poofs.”
* “You’re coming to a fashion show, not a concert.”
* “Liza Minnelli’s a wow!”
* “I mean, how can I play a piano with one leg missing?”
* “Robert Plant has always been my favorite singer.”
* “I can’t wait to see Japan—all those geisha girls and boys!”
MOMMY, WHAT’S THAT BUMP ON HIS LEG?
Freddie Mercury has the most celebrated bulge since Jim Morrison or even Ted Kluzewski. “By the way,” swears the tyke, “I do not wear a hose. MY HOSE IS MY OWN! No Coke bottle, nothing stuffed down there.”
Oh yeah? then let’s hear your explanation for these items found in your dressing room: an iron banana, two bags of R-19 insulation, a roll of dimes, a grasshopper trying to mate with a thermometer, a grassy knoll, a baggie full of virgin’s tears, the Leaning Tower of Cottage Cheese and a refugee shrimper and his family.
Oh yeah, according to Lisa Robinson, he wears “it” to the left.
A WORD FROM THE COMPETITION
“Queen...oh, the English Queen, well...I think they’re going to turn out to be real good”—Robert Plant.
MORE FUN THAN ETCH-A-SKETCH!
Brian on his self-made guitar: “It took two years, It was made from the wood of a 100-year-old fireplace, cast aluminum, and the parts of an old motorcycle engine. The fuzz and phase units are built it.” Neat, Bri’! Now try building some character.
NO SIGN OF A STRUGGLE
Freddie on the egocentricity of “We Are The Champions": ‘‘We thought it may be, but SOD IT!”

PSYCHIC SUBURBANITES
The vaned-out but still ambulatory Linney family of Hove, U.K., wrote a letter to Queen in 1974 that said the band would become “more famous than the Beatles.” “Previously,” added Brian, “they had only listened to classical music.” To show their gratitude, the guys treated the whole family to a Dirty Picnic.
TWO REASONS WHY JOHN DEACON DOESN’T LIKE THE PRESS
1. “The bass line on ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ is lifted straight out of Chic’s ‘Good Times’ as if the Sugarhill Gang never even existed!”-CREEM’80
2. “‘We Will Rock You’ is a near-clone of Gary Glitter’s ‘Rock And Roll, Pt. 2,’ particularly the bass line.”—NME ’78.
BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG SHITTY
Queen’s light show is a favorite of many fans particularly when it outshines the band itself in concert. Included among the visuals: flashpots, strobes, lasers, smoke-bombs, Masonite reflectors, sub alert system, airport landing lights, industrial-strength anti-bug torches, a group of Japanese tourists with flashcubes, a roadie waving a Space Giants penlight and 247 synchronized night-beepers.
THE VACUUM EFFECT
“When a top-flight, proven rock attraction withdraws into a period of inactivity,” states the NME Encyclopedia of Rock, “the void thus created will be filled by substitute, usually lesser-talented acts.” Okay, now guess which group made it big in ’73-’74, when Led Zep and David Bowie were too caned-out to record or tour?
HOW FREDDIE LOST HIS PANTS
“We’d had a hectic day at Top Of The Pops and our promo man, Eric Hall, invited us out for a meal. Unfortunately, the others in the band couldn’t come, they had to go back to the studio [and do the real work— R.J.]. Anyway, I had rather a lot to drink and I seem to remember at some point in the evening that someone removed my shoes and socks and hung them over a lampshade. Then I said something along the lines of ‘well, if you’re going to take everything off, I shall remove my trousers,’ which I did. Then the manager approached and I thought he was going to throw me out, but instead he said ‘I hear you’ve got a gold disc.’ Then he presented me with a bottle of champagne.” But Freddie dear, who popped the cork?
MADAME ARNIE PREDICTS
Cosmic spit from The Sage: “Driven by Brian May’s ukelele fixation, the band’s next LP will be entitled Queen Goes Hawaiian, featuring water chestnuts like ‘Tiny Bubbles,’ ‘Honolulu Lulu,’ ‘Hawaii Five-O Theme,' an operatic (ala ‘Boho Rhapsody’) treatment of ‘Dead Man’s Curve,’ ‘Another One Bites The Poi" and their rockabilly version of ‘Blue Hawaii’.”
ROGER TAYLOR VS. THE RUNAWAYS
CREEM Rock 'N' Roll News (June ’76): Queen’s Roger Taylor had some trouble getting into a Runaways (Kim Fowley’s new all-girl teenaged rock ’em-sock ’em act) concert at Esperanza High School in California’s conservative Orange County. When Roger and a friend arrived at the school auditiorium, it seems they were refused admittance by the teachers and the principal. “You have to let Roger in,” pleaded his friend to the principal. “He’s in Queen.” Replied the school official, “I don’t care if he’s in King. You have to leave or I’ll call the police.” And they left. Wonder what the principal did when he saw the Runaways’ show, which has been described as akin to the Stooges on a good night?
NO BALLS, TWO STRIKES
Chicago White Sox organist Nancy has been trying to get the fans to sing along with “We Will Rock You” during Sox rallies for three years now. That is, until mid-season ’80, when she forgot the chords due to lack of use.
I FEEL PRETTY
Some Of Freddie’s Fashion Secrets:
* Revlon “Touch ’n’ Glow” (color: toasted beige)
* Miners’ black nail polish (one coat) with rhinestones. If no rhinestones are available, substitute sparkle-covered fetuses of Rice Krispies.
* Pink Biba jammies.
* Blouses by Zandra Rhodes.
* Undies by Goodyear.
STOP CRYIN' BRIAN
Quips From The Ever-Colorful Mr. May:
* “I don’t have the urge to do anything. ”
* “I like at least three showers a day. ”
* “I’m a very pig-headed person. ”
* “I have to steer clear of hamburgers.”
* “I don’t look yellowish to you, do I?”
* “My current girlfriend couldn’t stand me at all originally.”
* “Genotype Cointoss? What does that mean?”

Things from the 2000s that have returned and could return
Well guys, you know that I LOVE everything that has to do with the 2000s, the 90s and the 70s. I had planned this blog for several months but for reasons (Breakdowns, school, exams and etc...) I couldn't do this blog,
So let's look at some trends from the 2000s that have come back very quietly and others that could come back faster than you think!
1.- The iconic Highlights of the 2000s:
Tumblr media
If there is one thing that came back from the 2000s with a pretty big improvement it would be The Highlights, this style was worn by girls like Christina Aguilera (Especially in 2000 and 2002), Kelly Clarkson (in her American Idol and Debut Era), Shakira ( During Laundry Service Era). Well this style is back, the other day a girl at my high school was wearing them and they looked great on her, and this post leads me to the next one.
Tumblr media
2.-The Pouf hairstyle:
Tumblr media
The most iconic hairstyle of the mid to late 2000s, was worn by almost everyone from Britney Spears, Xtina, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Scherzinger, Hilary Duff and etc... (The greatest heyday of this hair style could be said which was the years 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007), well, what if I told you that this style is making a comeback so to speak? I have seen several people wearing this style, including a friend. (I think the girl in this picture is Addison Rae):
Tumblr media
3.- The Gladiator Sandals:
Tumblr media
Gladiator sandals or as I like to call them: Roman sandals, I wouldn't know very well if this is very mid 2000s or early 2010s (But investigating well, it could be said that these sandals began to be worn in 2004), this type of Shoes were very essential for boho chic (very characteristic aesthetic of the mid 2000s), Kate Moss and every girl who had the boho chic style wore them. Well, it turns out that when I went on vacation to the beach, I saw a woman with gladiator sandals, would you wear gladiator sandals?
Tumblr media
4.-Thin eyebrows:
Tumblr media
One of the most hated trends of the 2000s (having its origins in the 20s and 30s), thin brows are making a somewhat chaotic comeback, Doja Cat, Bella Hadid, Rihanna, Barbie Ferreira and other celebrities are embracing this trend. . In my honest opinion, thin brows would look good If only they looked a bit thick plus the brows of the moment would be Fluffy Brows (Which I find pretty unlike Instagram Brows, which scare me a bit as they give a feeling of anger)
Tumblr media
5.-Jewelry:
Tumblr media
Jewelry in the 2000s was so varied (from hoop earrings, pearl necklaces and rings) it's making a big comeback, I've seen a lot of guys wearing rings on almost every finger on their hands and I've seen a lot of girls with the earrings from earrings, One of the celebrities who is embracing y2k fashion with a lot of style is our dear Riri, I find her outfits super cute, especially this one with jewelry:
Tumblr media
(By the way this Outfit reminds me a lot of this outfit of Britney in 2003):
Tumblr media
6.-Emos?:
Tumblr media
The emos were the most iconic subculture of the 2000s, after their disappearance, a great return was expected and precisely with the return to the mainstream of Pop Punk, the subculture could also be returning. Honestly, I have a somewhat conceptualized idea of the possible emos of this decade: Smokey Eyes like Damiano David or Victoria de Angelis, Wearing dark lipsticks or glosses like Willow, Copying MGK's style in a certain way
7.-Scene Kids:
Tumblr media
The same as the Emos, only that the scene Kids are characterized by the use of bright colors, the celebrity that is imposing the possible return of the Scene Kids would be Avril Lavigne, who with her album "Love Sux" showed an image more similar to a Scene Kid:
Tumblr media
8.-Gaucho Pants:
Tumblr media
One of the trends of the 2000s that I personally find great, Ashlee Simpson and Nicole Richie were some of the celebrities who wore this style in the 2000s. This year the Gaucho Pants are beginning to be seen again thanks to some models and TikTok, although Dua Lipa has also worn them
Tumblr media
9.-French Tips:
Tumblr media
The French Tips were the most iconic nail style of the 2000s (especially if they were a bit small and checkered), they looked simple and pretty, and that's why for their return, they decided to adapt to the tastes of each person (Now the line white can be painted the color you like the most or you can even make some different designs), I like this return of french tips! And you?
Tumblr media
10.-Navel Piercing:
Tumblr media
This trend was obviously going to come back yes or yes thanks to the revival of Low Rise jeans and the whale tail, I have always liked this trend and I feel that it can shine with a Mid Rise and a Low Rise (I plan to do navel piercing before the end of August)
Tumblr media
11.- Uggs:
Tumblr media
I saved the best/worst trend for last, yes folks... Uggs are making a comeback (In their original form)I've seen several guys and girls wearing uggs (very similar to the original ones from the 2000s), honestly I wouldn't use that trend, but since I live in a bit of a cold place, some uggs wouldn't do me any harm haha
Tumblr media
Which of these trends do you like? I hope to hear your opinion!😁❤
