I love how here it's George who just fully throws himself into a hug, he said no, I will not be content with a shoulder pat
I KNOW MAN SHIT I KNOW, time for me to essay on this cause I’ve ranted about it so much.
But the body language in this hug is everything. I could walk through it step by gentle step. Every movement is an echo of things learned and loved together.
Like first of all, Lewis walking over so slow, edging his way to George, not wanting to interrupt but then his head jerks up when George spots him. Lewis lifts his hand to tap his shoulder as George goes for the back slap, and they both just- pause for a second, hands hovering as they decide silently between something small, and what they really want, as George’s hand comes down to cling to Lewis’ shoulder just for a second.
And then George decides, and he launches himself into Lewis. He springs off his toes and drops his weight onto him, like he’s the small one here. Like he isn’t so long he makes other average sized drivers look little. He curls into Lewis like he always does with him before Lewis can even get his arms up around him. George has a forearm circled around Lewis’ neck before Lewis can move, still clutching his gloves. George jumps from far enough away he’s still balancing on his toes. He’s 6’2, and yet George is so desperate to touch him he’s on his toes. Maybe he just likes to feel small.
He collides with Lewis so hard his collar guard bounces around his neck, he’s tucking big old blue helmet down next to Lewis straight away, clinging to his back like he can’t get there quick enough.
And then Lewis’ hands finally settle on him, holding him around the back as he clings to him, his big palm settling over George’s shoulder blades as George grips his race suit
Then we have customary no homo back slaps, as is the whole thing wasn’t already pretty soft an affectionate. But it’s also excitement and delight. It’s releasing energy and communicating through their big clunky helmets and the screaming of fans. It says “you fucking did it! You won! I’m so proud of you, I’m not upset” for Lewis, and “thank you for everything, you did it too! Im glad it’s you who’s here” for George
Then they let go, but they don’t quite do that right either, they bring their heads back round, angling their helmets so they look at each others eyes, through those tiny little visor slots.
George grabs Lewis by the shoulder and squeezes, he’s not ready to let go yet, gripping and shaking the muscle there as they catch each others eyes. And Lewis, Lewis brings his big hand up and spreads it over the side of George’s head, cupping, cradling, holding George where he is so he can look at him. I bet he’s mouthing something to him. Who knows what, but the way he holds George says enough.
Later, the way he gravitates around him on the podium says more, especially compared to Mexico, where Lewis couldn’t wait to leave, to get away. Last race Lewis practically ran from Max from the bulls, only returning for a customary photo before he leaves again.
In Brazil Lewis goes straight from George, centres him in his celebration, then clings to him after, using his waist as a balance to get onto the podium, getting right up under George’s side to hold him. Then even after he’s tugging him out to celebrate with the crowd that everyone knows is lewis’, letting George steal his phone and later still beaming at him in the press con, utterly smitten with him.
The way they adore on each other is more than just the touch. It’s the way they treat one another, compared to those around them. No wonder Carlos looked like he was disassociating up there, Lewis and George only had eyes for each other, two days in a row.

“I’ll Be Fine”: Talk about Popculture, Druck and Gen Z
Popkultur Festival Berlin 2022, wednesday 24.08.2022
with Eren M. Güvercin, Nhung Hoang, Naomi Bechert (social media team during s5 – s6, writer of s7 and s8)
Moderated by Aidan Riebensahm
Thanks a lot to @oidersschnoide <3 for recording the talk and sharing it with me so that I could translate it.
The whole interview was professionally filmed, so it might get uploaded somewhere in the future. For example the Popkultur Berlin youtube channel.
Disclaimer: Because the talk was about an hour long and it was a lot of work to translate everything, I occasionally just summarized what was said and wrote it in brackets instead translating sentence by sentence. Also english is my second language so please excuse any grammar or spelling mistakes. :)
Aidan: (general greeting and introduction of the guests, then asking the guests to tell which function/role they had in Druck)
Nhungi: Hi I am Nhung Hoang, also called Nhungi and I played Kieu My in s5 – s8. I am happy to be here.
Eren: Hello I am Eren. I play Ismail aka Isi in s5 – s8.
Naomi: Hi I am Naomi. I did social media in s5 – s6 and wrote the script for s7 and s8.
Aidan: Naomi, then I will start with you. We both are the ones today who do not belong to Gen Z. (talking about their age) What does characterize Druck as a series? Question to the audience: who has watched Druck? Some but not all. Then please explain the concept to us.
Naomi: (explaining the real-time-concept of Druck and the Instagram accounts)
Aidan: (asking Nhungi and Eren) would you describe it the same way?
Nhungi: yes.
Eren: agreed.
Aidan: (talking about the social media content around the clips, the discord and the chats. She mainly knows this from her younger sister and has not followed the social media content herself). As you (Naomi) described, the characters were developed together with the actors/actresses. Would you (Nhungi and Eren) tell us how you participated in the development of your roles?
Nhungi: In the beginning of s5 a new generation was created, consisting of the cashqueens and the Instas + friends like Josh and Yara. We were casted with a rough character frame. There was a character description that told in which direction it would go. But it completely differed from what we were actually portraying (laughs). There were a lot of Interviews and conversations in the beginning were we talked about our lives and told stories of personal experiences which shaped the character.
Eren: I don´t really know what to add to this. At first we had these conversations with the first writers room, we worked with. For me it was a huge difference between the description of the role and what it became in the end. But I leave it at that for now. (laughs)
Nhungi: Right, we found it interesting that besides this role description in the beginning, it was differed and more like “ok who do we cast?”. The roles were more written for us then us having to adjust to the roles. For many of us this was the first shooting experience. And for many of the people in charge it was important that we would be as authentic as possible. It felt more as if we were just interacting with each other. There are scrips and a concept but it felt more as if we were simply talking with each other in our roles while the camera was rolling.
Naomi: I do remember how everything started with s5 and how we met you for the first time. Some of you were basically the role description which had existed before like for example the role Zoey or Constantin. And some of you had given a lot of input and participated in developing the role. That was very interesting to see. How some people were casted according to a type for their role and some had given their own input.
