hey ummmm jsyk the red cross is going through a severe blood shortage. if you are eligible, please donate—from the beginning of august to about mid-september 2023 alone, the red cross has lost about 25% of its blood supply, and has been sending blood to hospitals at a MUCH faster rate than it has been receiving donations.
giving ONE pint of blood can save THREE people’s lives. power red donations (which require certain conditions be met) can allow you to safely give TWICE AS MUCH blood. plasma can be given once every two weeks, making it more frequent, but again, you must meet certain conditions.
also, i’m not sure if this is a thing in just my state or nationally, but if you give blood before October 20th 2023, they give you a free $15 Amazon gift card. i believe we shouldn’t need incentives for things like this but in case that is a motivator for anyone, check what they’re doing in your state!
i cannot understate the importance of giving blood right now if you are eligible and have the means. you could help so many people by regularly giving. someone in the united states needs blood every two (2) seconds, and while three people doesn’t sound like a lot, many people together donating could save up to thousands.
please share this around. it’s something i’m insanely passionate about and i wish more people were.

JK Rowling is one step away from just outright saying black people shouldn’t give blood to white people.

As a blood donor, I’m here to say that yet again she is talking out of her ass and doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about. There is apparently a possibility of a risk to men if they receive blood from a woman who has been pregnant, but that’s it.
It’s actually mildly hilarious because she’s literally talking like one of the pure blood Death Eaters from her books: “filthy half-breed! Mudblood!”

Project of young ladies
Mortals
As you know, I became the illustrious God of Stories. It was simple, after all, I have experience in taking thrones. I rule the branches justly and wisely. My beloved Sigyn brought to my attention a certain project of young students from a human school. I love my sweet wife very much, so I want to order you to use your money like good subjects - Loki does not look at the camera, trying to look very menacing and commanding - Anyway, you are to do this. I'll be watching. Always.
Sigyn smiles at the camera - Every heart that supports this action will be rewarded with the blessing of victory, prosperity and happiness. Young students pay attention to spread the news about blood and anemia and organize a charity ball so that people can donate blood. Unfortunately, they have financial issue with that. It would be very nice if you supported them. The young ladies attend a biology class at an elite high school in Szczecin, Poland. Please support their intentions. Every penny counts.

Since so many of us are enjoying Dracula Daily, I thought it might be a good idea to remind people that blood donations decrease during the summer months, but need for blood does not. Perhaps give you support to those who need blood, like our dear Dracula and his three - possibly weed smoking - girlfriends, and make an appointment to donate blood!

This is your quarterly reminder to donate blood if you are able. In the US at least blood donations drop significantly during the summer.

So I've been donating blood regularly ever since Covid started, and today the Red Cross contacted me to let me know that I actually have a very rare, very needed blood type: O-positive, CMV-negative.
CMV is cytomegalovirus, and only about 15% of adults are CMV-negative. It's a mild flu-like disease for most people, but it can be deadly in babies.
Babies can only get CMV-negative type O blood transfusions. Almost all my donated blood is going to babies or immunocompromised people.
Neat thing to think about.

A Montana Republican is pushing a bill to bar those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine or suffer from "long COVID" from donating blood—a proposal some critics say could effectively eradicate the state's supply of blood.
Formally introduced in the Montana State Legislature on February 17, House Bill 645 proposes a misdemeanor offense for anyone who knowingly donates whole blood, plasma, blood products, blood derivatives, human tissue, organs, or bones containing "gene-altering proteins, nanoparticles, high-count spike proteins from long COVID-19, or other isolates introduced by mRNA or DNA vaccines, mRNA or DNA chemotherapies, or other novel mRNA or DNA pharmaceutical biotechnologies."
The legislation, which has yet to receive a committee vote, comes over what the bill's sponsor, Representative Greg Kmetz, described as fears from his constituents of ensuring a "safe" blood supply—even as experts assert that it is safe to donate blood after receiving a COVID vaccine or being diagnosed with COVID.
"Many of my constituents question just because we hear these two words, 'safe and effective,' a million plus times, does that make them true?" Kmetz asked colleagues in a hearing on the bill last week. "[...] These are the people that are concerned about our blood supply. These are the people that put me in this office. These are the people that I represent."
Kmetz has been backed by fellow Republicans, Rep. Jodee Etchart, who is the bill's requester, and Rep. Lola Sheldon-Galloway.
Many of the concerns pushed by the bill's proponents often cited uncredible or even biased information to support them.
Some who testified in favor of the bill claimed, without evidence, that friends and family died prematurely as a result of receiving the vaccine. There is currently no proof linking the COVID vaccine to premature death.
Another woman cited a Facebook post pushing claims that COVID-19 vaccines turned the blood of embalmed corpses into fibrous clots, a finding medical fact checkers have already debunked as the result of a heavily flawed study.
Others cited concerns over a spike in myocarditis cases among teens who received some types of vaccine, which U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data found to be rare.
Meanwhile, opponents of the bill, which included multiple medical professionals, said its language was overly broad and would, in effect, decimate Montana's blood and organ donor supply.
According to data from the CDC, approximately two-thirds of Montanans have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while just 3% of eligible donors nationwide donate blood. Cliff Numark, the Senior Vice President of Donor Services for blood supplier nonprofit Vitalant, said the bill would cause "devastating harm" to the state's healthcare system, and potentially reduce the state's overall blood supply by as much as 80%.
Numark said there is no test available to verify whether the vaccine was in someone's bloodstream, making the bill impossible to comply with if passed into law.
In recent weeks, Vitalant has urged blood donors to come forward amid a shortage that has been worsened by adverse weather. Nationwide, the American Red Cross, which in January 2022 declared its first-ever blood crisis, says that someone in the U.S. needs blood and/or platelets every two seconds.
"Our blood is safe," Vicky Byrd, CEO of the Montana Nurses Association, told lawmakers. "Our scientists and our practitioners, we have to trust them. We know what they're doing."
While COVID-19 patients are barred from donating blood while infected with the virus—primarily because of the precondition for donors to be in "good health" when donating—all blood donation groups and the American Red Cross have maintained that it is safe to donate blood after receiving the vaccine.
"Blood donations from individuals who have received a COVID-19 vaccine approved or authorized for use in the U.S. are safe for transfusion," Red Cross officials told Newsweek in a statement.
"Similar to other vaccines such as those for measles, mumps or influenza, COVID-19 vaccines are designed to generate an immune response to help protect an individual from illness, but vaccine components themselves do not replicate through blood transfusions or alter a blood recipient's DNA."
"In summary, there is no scientific evidence that demonstrates adverse outcomes from the transfusions of blood products collected from vaccinated donors and, therefore, no medical reason to distinguish or separate blood donations from individuals who have received a COVID-19 vaccination," they said.
Though the bill's opponents said there was no evidence to support a ban on vaccinated donors giving blood, the bill's proponents said that was because studies have not yet been done.
From a practical standpoint, Numark said a ban would result in "unnecessary and unconscionable" death.
"This house bill would criminalize the act of attempting to altruistically donate blood," Numark said. "It would decimate the blood supply."
Newsweek reached out to Greg Kmetz for comment.

Public Health Services are super important to me and the stress being put on the system right now with the pandemic and defunding and more is pushing many to consider allowing privitization and that is very, very unnerving to me.
Our blood services were regulated to ensure that there is consistent access to healthy, consistently tested blood for those in need. Its known that private companies are known for taking advantage of at risk and low income communities, and being private means opening potential for them to set their own standards and potentially restrict access at will. There are CERTAINLY problems within our systems (discrimination of donors based on risk that is not actually an effective risk management for one) but we need PUBLIC healthcare. Privitization will only create tiered systems that work for the hyper rich and affect little change for the average populus, if not making access even harder for rural communities and those who already struggle to access healthcare. Profit is not found with those in need, and private companies are profit driven. Public accountability is Crucial. Canadian Blood services only had 3 days worth of O+ blood as of Aug 4th, and many appointments are left unfilled or cancelled. If you can donate, please consider it! Especially if you are a more needed blood type or if you dont know it yet!  ---- Send me a selfie or other pic proving you've donated in a dm or email before making a purchase and ill make sure you get 50% off your order! I won't accept appointment screenshots on their own since cancellations are likely given covid's prevalence, but i'd love to get them still! I made one for this week! Maybe I'll see you there :) Obviously this discount is for Canadian's only, sorry to any international buds!

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued proposed guidance Friday to ease restrictions on blood donations by men who have sex with men.
The change is expected to take effect after a public comment period.
The restrictions on donating blood date back to the early days of the AIDS epidemic and were designed to protect the blood supply from HIV. Originally, gay and bisexual men were completely prohibited from donating blood. Over time, the FDA relaxed the lifetime ban, but still kept in place some limits.
Under the current policy — last updated in 2020 — men who have sex with men can donate blood if they haven't had sexual contact with other men for three months.
The new proposed policy would eliminate the time-based restrictions on men who have sex with men (and their female partners) and instead screen potential donors' eligibility based on a series of questions that assess their HIV risk, regardless of gender. Anyone taking medications to treat or prevent HIV, including PrEP, would not be eligible.
The risk assessment would include questions about anal sex. Potential donors who've had anal sex in the last three months with a new sexual partner or more than one sexual partner would not be eligible to give blood.
The changes are aimed at addressing criticism that the current policy is discriminatory and outdated, as well as one more barrier to bolstering the nation's blood supply. Blood banks already routinely screen donated blood for HIV. "We are moving now to an inclusive policy for blood donation," said Dr. Peter Marks, who leads the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research at the FDA during a briefing Friday.
"We will continue to work to make sure that we have policies that allow everyone who wants to donate blood to be able to donate blood within what the science allows to make sure that the blood supply remains safe."
In crafting the new guidance, the FDA has been looking to the results of a study of about 1,600 gay and bisexual men to develop screening questions that can identify potential donors who are most likely to be infected with HIV.
Reaction to the news from advocates, medical groups and blood banks has been positive.
"The blood community is very excited about the proposed changes," says Kate Fry, CEO of America's Blood Centers. "We have advocated for a decade now for a move to an individual risk assessment model. So this is very welcome by blood centers across the country."
She stressed that all donated blood is carefully screened for HIV and that testing has improved dramatically to ensure the safety of the blood supply.
For many years, the American Medical Association, the American Red Cross and LGBTQ+ advocacy groups have pushed for a change to the federal rules on blood donations.
"These changes are 40-plus years in the making and they're a tremendous leap forward in elevating science over stigma," says Tony Morrison, a spokesperson for the advocacy group GLAAD.
But GLAAD and other groups say the changes still don't go far enough. They argue that some of the remaining restrictions are still unnecessary and stigmatizing, such as the prohibition against donations by people taking medication PrEP to prevent HIV.
"When we limit and defer people who are being proactive in their sexual health that stigmatizes them. The misconception is that people on PrEP are promiscuous or have a higher risk of HIV infection — that's categorically false," says Morrison.
So his group will continue to lobby the FDA to further ease restrictions.
The proposed changes in the blood donation rules will be open for public comment for 60 days. The FDA will then review those comments and issue a final rule, probably later this year. So monogamous gay men could start donating blood again sometime in 2023.

Rowling didn't say anything wrong though. There are various medical concerns that take place when a transitioned person donates blood. Stop making everything a fucking issue about everything and misinterpreting people. You so called woke left minded thick headed liberals are so far off in the head, not even a slap could bring you back from whatever deluded fantasy you're living in
Hey friend! Thanks for your polite and dignified reply - you’re truly showing me that the far right aren’t rude, unkind or anything negative right now. You’ve definitely convinced me with your kind words.
Seriously though… it’s bold of you to assume that donated blood isn’t thoroughly checked for ANY illnesses, diseases etc. before it’s given to a patient. They literally test EVERY bag of blood to be safe. So these so called “medical concerns” you have regarding trans people donating is unfounded.

Side Effects of donating blood
I think you’d really like this self-awareness video from Avibra(https://avibra.app.link/xv42IEdtf3) on- Side Effects of donating blood
https://www.facebook.com/avibralife/videos/722001411490500/
Seriously, it's not something most people think about every day, but donating blood, plasma, and platelets is critically needed all of the time. If you can donate, make the time, please.
