God bless the rare pairs! I haven’t read much in 2023 but what I’ve read definitely left a lasting impression on me. The @dronarryfest stole the show alongside some delicious Kinkuary treats, but I’m happy that I found time to explore wlw and one or two new ships. A massive shoutout to these incredible creators for sharing brilliant works with us. Please give them some love! Here's to a wonderful 2024 with more rare pair galore 🥂

Romans 1 23-26 is often used by Christians to justify homophobia as law but I could easily interpret it to bash the "good", "traditional" marriages I have seen and a lot of the modern binary-gender-assigned behavioral patterns
The full chapter is linked if you would like to read Romans 1 for yourself (WEB form so you can openly use it as you wish without copyright) but let me pull that specific section plus some extra for context:
20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. 21 Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, four-footed animals, and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves; 25 who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26 For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. 28 Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers, 30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.
This section starts by telling you that God is within all the things made - unseen unless looking directly at the creations - aka God is the intelligence of nature. Everything made in nature is God. Then people through the attainment of free will and knowledge arrogantly assumed they understood how to handle the designs of nature. Then they began to idolize and idealize select people and creatures as equivalent to God (so many examples of this from celebrity worship to people who like animals over other humans) instead of God directly (which is available to humanity through all things created by nature). God seen it happen and never corrected their behavior instead leaving humanity to correct itself.
Instead of correcting themselves and respecting nature in its many, many facets, people started looking for how they could take advantage of the existing social structures to become the main leader - as close to God as humanly possible - and this caused people to start using sex and intimacy as tools for power instead of the way nature designed - a way to further bond with a fellow human you really like and respect. In this current state of society, heterosexual men are more concerned with how to get emotional intimacy with other men and they due it through predatory sexual behaviors (ex. "locker room talk", revenge porn, group attacks, catcalling, pedophilia, etc.) - these are not natural because you are naturally designed to be a social being who's body fully releases when you are with someone you actually really like. Instead these men treat these behaviors as bonding with each other, incapable of bonding with a woman thereby making the whole act of sex unnatural. But to be honest, there is room for it to to also be condemning women who have sex solely for money (nothing about how many people you sleep with, just about having a natural connection to whoever you are sleeping with which is determined by if you are showing true love for who that person is as designed by God).
People who keep going down this path of tying in sexuality with greed, power, and fail to understand the true intimacy and respect that sex deserves are worthy of Death according to this text.
Like how did any of you get homophobia from this when God has mapped out homosexuality, gender-bending, etc. in multiple species? Some of you need to instead accept the fact that the reason your sex life isn't fulfilling and you're miserable because you are having sex with someone that you don't really like, they just check the boxes for social status/comfort that you mentally decided you needed based on other people's opinions. We have created a society that thinks it's normal to exchange sexual favors/intimacy for survival so people pick partners based on the social constructs they made up: primarily money. Then to satisfy their unnatural choice for something made my humans, many enjoy seeing people who genuinely like their sexual/romantic partner get hurt and the most mentally screwed up go out of their way to find people capable of natural sexual attachment and hurt them so that they cannot feel that full satisfaction ever again.

I learned something new today. Listening to the “Blessed Are the Binary Breakers” podcast by Avery over at @queerlychristian talking about the character of Joseph in Genesis. Joseph was one of the sons of Jacob and his father gave him a garment I’ve always heard described as a colorful coat or robe. But it turns out the Hebrew term for this garment only ever shows up once more in scripture describing the dress of a princess. Jacob gave Joseph a princess dress and his brothers took it away and sold him. Apparently there is midrash about Joseph being feminine and that being a threat to his brothers...
Times like this I wish I had better eye hand coordination and understanding of proportions and perspectives cause this scene needs to be painted! I’m talking altar panel size triptych: 1) getting the dress, 2) betrayed, dress torn and bloody, and 3) meeting the brothers again in Egyptian dress, jewelry, and makeup!!!!

I just listened to several of @blessedarethebinarybreakers podcasts and the one called “Sacred body, sacred space - stories of trans spirituality across faiths” really spoke to me.
I could listen to several more compilation episodes of trans and nonbinary people speaking about faith and spirituality, to be honest with you. It is enormously healing and validating to hear other people talk about their nonbinary or trans gender journey as sacred, holy, elevated, or central to their relationship with their spiritual practices, including the (allegedly) infamously homo/trans/queerphobic God of Christianity.
Thank you for creating this podcast! I also really enjoyed the episode with prabhdeep singh kehal about Sikhi, colonialism, and white supremacy in academia, and the one called “How are trans people like Shiva, Joseph, and Joan of Arc?”

Gold scales and soft flesh || The Witcher AU.
Golden dragons were the children of the Sun, hence different in nature to the rest of their kind — if not something else entirely. Few ever lived among other creatures, let alone in the open, but rather preferred to conceal their existences by virtue of polymorphic abilities.
One of them did choose to ally himself with a small Nation; Nilfgaard, seeing how its inhabitants worshipped the Sun.
Ornnsteintensth, the Golden Dragon, or quite simply Ornstein, as most would call him, was deemed a true blessing bestowed by the Sun upon the faithful, for such an ancient being possessed knowledge, wisdom and strength beyond their comprehension. And he was willing to share his gifts! He was willing to guide and protect, developing respect of his own for the Nilfgaardians.
The nation thrived and soon enough gained an imperial status. It was then when the leaders decided that Ornstein’s aid wasn’t what they needed, not anymore. Thus, they sought a manner to control his mind and slave him to do their bidding — yet failed at it. Fearing the dragon’s fury, several Nilfgaardians mages sacrificed themselves to cast a curse that sealed him in his human form, hoping he’d be easier to kill that way.
Even in that weakened state, the dragon still managed to escape.
He’s been living a nomadic existence for centuries, hiding his true identity and nature from everyone but a select few.
Incapable of returning to his true form, Ornstein is always looking for a way to break the curse, while struggling to tolerate the inescapable confinement of a prison made of flesh and bone; his own body.
Plotting points:
Despite his distrust, Ornstein does not hold a generalised grudge against humans, so he won’t show gratuitous animosity towards them. Nonetheless, Nilfgaardians will be instantly regarded as suspicious.
He doesn't use his true name, Ornnsteintensth, but only Ornstein. This is for various reasons, particularly the need to avoid any spells cast by using names. Hence only a few people (the closest to him) would know it.
It’s nearly impossible to discover Ornstein’s true nature while he’s in another form, unless he chooses to reveal it. This includes his current human body, which he cannot transform, in any way, due to the curse that sealed him. Polymorphism is an innate ability, rare even among dragons. Hence, it does not register as magic of any kind to people attuned with such powers, nor can be detected by spells or enchanted objects. The only possible way to find out would be by prodding in Ornstein’s mind — at an enormous risk, even if he happened to be unconscious or weakened. As a golden dragon, he possesses strong telepathic abilities and the otherworldly mind of an eldritch creature, unaltered by the curse. Whoever tried to invade his mind, would most likely end up losing their own, rather than extracting any secrets.
Then, the curse itself might not be impossible to detect, even though it isn’t evident either. Provided, its exact nature wouldn’t be clear… something like the vague awareness of this man is cursed, somehow.
However aloof and distrustful, Ornnsteintensth is an innately curious creature — thus he could be lured or even befriended through means of offering to satisfy his curiosity. Furthermore, one might say that he collects (if not hoards) knowledge of all kinds. His life has been exceedingly long yet his memory never falters, like an ancient living library that keeps expanding.
Rumours of an accomplished cursed-breaker, referring to him, could exist. Already knowledgeable in the magic arts, Ornstein has become an expert in curses — after years of tireless research and experimentation. He’s capable of breaking nearly any enchantment, except his own, and has helped other people before, albeit never revealing much about himself.
He’s a pointed interest in the Elder Blood and obscure/ancient magic, suspecting it could be helpful to break his curse.
Stats:
NAME. Ornnsteintensth, known by few.
NICKNAME. Ornstein. He's commonly known by it.
GENDER. Male dragon, albeit not particularly interested in the concept of binary genders.
HEIGHT. 1.91 mt — 6′3.
AGE. ANCIENT. Yet looks like a man in his late 20s.
SPOKEN LANGUAGES. Every single one, as part of his innate skills.
HAIR. Rich red. Slightly wavy and long past his waist.
EYES. Light amber, with a slight true gold tint.
SKIN TONE. Light-medium, warm undertones.
BODY TYPE. Strong and wiry muscular. Long limbs, broad shoulders, narrow waist, wider hips, overall hourglass shape.
VOICE. Clear, deep, somewhat cold and usually quiet.
DOMINANT HAND. Doesn’t present lateralisation of brain function.
POSTURE. Perfectly straight, graceful.
SCARS AND MARKS. A trail of scales that go all the way down his spine, looking very much like little chunks of gold embedded on his skin.
BIRTHMARKS. None. Actually, his skin, features and general countenance are eerily smooth and symmetrical, giving him a somewhat inhuman appearance.
MOST NOTICEABLE FEATURE(S). Eyes, scales.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION. demi-pansexual. Seldom interested in sex.
ROMANTIC ORIENTATION. demi-panromantic.
PREFERRED EMOTIONAL ROLE.  submissive  | dominant | switch.
PREFERRED SEXUAL ROLE. submissive |  dominant | switch.
TURN ON’S. Honesty, strength, affection.
TURN OFF’S. Pettiness, lies, forced commitment. When in an actual committed relationship, infidelity is the biggest turn off and a definite deal-breaker.
LOVE LANGUAGE. Mostly through sensual touch and emotional intimacy.
RELATIONSHIP TENDENCIES. Caring, devoted, protective.
MENTAL ILLNESSES. Depression, severe body dysphoria.
PHYSICAL ILLNESSES. None.
USUAL MOOD/EXPRESSION. Stoic, disciplined, perfectionist and determinate to a fault. Loyal, protective and driven by strong beliefs. Strict with others, but especially with himself. After the curse, his temper shifted to a rather melancholic disposition. He also became distrustful and aloof, unwilling to share much of himself with others.
SAVVIES: A vast array of disciplines and miscellaneous knowledge, including advanced strategy and war tactics, history, politics, linguistics, fine arts, alchemy, spell-casting, occultism, etc.
PROMINENT SKILLS. Polymorphism, telepathy, energy manipulation, arcane magic, martial arts, among others, albeit greatly restricted by his human form.
SPECIAL TRAITS. Immune to poison and illness, fast healing, semi-immortal; he doesn’t age but could be killed, inhuman physical and mental abilities.

Poems for Palestine
Poetry empowers us to imagine liberation that we can then work towards, together. In the latest episode of the Blessed Are the Binary Breakers podcast, listen to — or read along in the episode transcript — Jewish, Christian, and Muslim poems by Palestinians and their supporters.
Some pieces explore the Nativity story through this lens: Christmas joy must break bread with pain, birthing solidarity with all oppressed peoples.
Listen wherever you get podcasts — or visit here for a direct link.
Image descriptions are in the alt text and below the readmore.
A photo of Professor Refaat Alareer with a quote from him reading, “We’ve never been to other parts of Palestine because of the Israeli occupation, but… our parents and grandparents — especially our mothers — have been telling us stories… Our homeland turns into a story. In reality we can’t have it, but…we love our homeland because of the story. And we love the story because it’s about our homeland. And this connection is significant. Israel wants to sever the relationship between Palestinians and the land… And literature attaches us back, connects us strongly to Palestine…creating realities, making the impossible sound possible."
A photo of Hiba Abu Nada with an excerpt from her poem "I Grant You Refuge" reading, "I grant you refuge from hurt and suffering. With words of sacred scripture I shield the oranges from the sting of phosphorous and the shades of cloud from the smog. I grant you refuge in knowing that the dust will clear, and they who fell in love and died together will one day laugh."
A photo of Aurora Levins Morales with an excerpt from her poem "Red Sea," reading "We cannot cross until we carry each other, all of us refugees, all of us prophets. …this time no one will be left to drown and all of us must be chosen. This time it's all of us or none."
A photo of Basman Derawi with an excerpt from his poem "His Name Was Essa" reading, "Essa means Jesus. My friend was neither God nor prophet, but a rebel soul and humorist, like Jesus. When Essa laughed, everyone laughed. I think joy was his gospel. …I can see him now sitting in heaven nodding, laughing."

Ash Wednesday, Isaiah 6, and the blessing in our limitations
Tumblr media
Painting by Justin Simmons.
(If you're interested in listening to this post instead of reading it, I also shared this on my podcast, Blessed Are the Binary Breakers.)
I said, “Mourn for me; I’m ruined! I’m a man with unclean lips, and I live among a people with unclean lips. Yet I’ve seen the king, the Lord of heavenly forces!” Then one of the winged creatures flew to me, holding a glowing coal that ze had taken from the altar with tongs. Ze touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips. Your guilt has departed, and your sin is removed.” - Isaiah 6:5-7
Did the glowing coal leave a mark? A smear of dark? A bright burn?
Reading this text on Ash Wednesday, I can’t help but connect Isaiah’s coal and our ashy crosses:
He confesses himself unclean — admits his limits, where he and his people have failed.
We profess ourselves dust — acknowledge our limits, the finite time we have here and now, and how often we’ve failed to cherish that time.
In the confession, we open ourselves to blessing. Accepting our limits, we fall into God’s limitless love.
Why these physical, ritual actions — coal to the lips, ashes to the brow — to mark these limits and the blessings they yield?
God knows, respects, loves our existence as embodied spirits, inspirited bodies. She pairs spiritual gifts with tangible signs to help us experience Her truths with our whole selves.
A glowing coal — dead plants packed deep, transformed over eons, unburied at last and set alight — touches truth-telling lips to set them free.
Ashes of palm branches once waved in worship, burned down to begin the cycle anew, mark us as individually finite, but gathered into an infinite love.
Take time to prayerfully consider your own limits. What blessings, what liberation can you imagine flowing from our individual finitude? How can you connect your limited time and gifts to a greater whole, in small ways with great love?

I live in a non-affirming environment. I have no idea how to know if me being gay is right because my grandma keeps giving me verses about it because I brought it up once. There are so many ways to interpret the Bible and it is so difficult to know which way is right. I also can't get back into my church because my mothers funeral was held there and I can't step foot in that place. I don't know what I can do. Do you have any advice, comfort, or verses that you think could help me?
hey sweet child of God, I am so sorry to hear this is your situation!!
here are some resources for you to explore. i’ve found that the best thing is to surround yourself in affirming theology, and other queer christians. if that sounds weird, think of it like this: you’ve spent your entire life surrounded by unaffirming theology, straight christians who refused to understand your experience, and the active hatred of the church. it is only fair to yourself to surround yourself with the other side of the story.
here are some verses i like:
for when you’re feeling hopeless/alone:
How great is the love the Father has lavished upon us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it does not know him. 1 John 3:1
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11
He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4
for affirmation:
The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. Romans 14:22
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave a right to become children of God. John 1:12
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does no tlove does not know God, because God is love. In this, the love of God was made manifest among us. 1 John 4:7
I have more but contrary to all evidence, I do try to keep from spamming y’all. I hope some of that helps. as always, i suggest finding a community and friends who are queer christians, irl or online, and i always recommend the @queertheology podcast. lots of other blogs here are doing great things too, like @queerlychristian‘s ‘blessed are the binary breakers’ podcast.
I love you so so so much, and more importantly, so does God. Go in peace, my sibling in Christ, may your tomorrow be better.

So, ages ago I reblogged this post:
Tumblr media
Today I listened to a an episode of Blessed Are the Binary Breakers that was a rebroadcast from the Bible Bash Podcast in which Avery @blessedarethebinarybreakers asserts that in Hosea 11:9 God says, “I am God and not a man!” (This is really excellent translation and word study by the way - the Hebrew ish is very clearly “a man”).
So when this post was back on my dash this afternoon that last line “-if you say so” just jumped right out at out at me. Pilate asks Jesus, “Are you King of the Jews?” And Jesus responds, “You say so.” God rejects being assigned gender, and Jesus rejects being assigned political ambition!
And all of this is just to say that from now on I’m answering all gendering questions with, “If you say so.” Or, “I am god and not a man!”

It's taken me too long to start on, but I'm almost through the second episode of Blessed Are The Binary Breakers and I gotta say... At least this second Episode, so I can only image the next 55 of them... If you are Queer, please listen to at least Episode 2, Willow errs on the side of grace. This is such a good episode and I enjoyed listening to Willow speak on her experiences through life.
Here is the episode for ease of access:
