Yes for sure!

Generally, Kerrigan Byrne has a lot of these, but especially in:

The Highwayman--Perhaps the definitive angry and jump hero? Dorian Blackwell is a crime lord and super dangerous and wounded and traumatized. He has a touch aversion due to trauma (tw: childhood sexual abuse, along with general violence) but he's also super voyeuristic and deeply wants to touch the heroine. So he hates himself, is pissed at himself for wanting her so badly, and is kind of pissed at her for wanting him back. One of my favorite historical romance scenes involves him stitching up his own hand after he accidentally breaks a wine glass while watching her eat a cream puff. GOLD.

How to Love a Duke in Ten Days--Piers is a classic scarred hero. Struggling a bit, emotionally unstable, and tending towards self-loathing. He ends up in a marriage of convenience with the heroine, then discovers that she's not a virgin (it's because she was assaulted, as a TW--he's super understanding and gentle with her once he realizes what happened, but there's some confusion in the beginning). They deal with their issues together!

Of course, you should totally read some Kleypas heroes.

Dreaming of You--Derek Craven was born in a drainpipe! He raised himself! He's super successful but this doesn't change his terrible self worth! He wants Sara so badly but can't emotionally open up with her because he's afraid of hurting her.

Marrying Winterborne--Rhys Winterborne is seen as like, super rough by upper class women because he's Welsh and self made. So he's very growly and intimidating and a bit mean at times, but obviously completely melts with his heroine. One of my favorite scenes in this book involves her getting a bit wacky after taking some medicine for her migraine and him like. Fucking that migraine out of her head. In his department store. Which he owns.

Seduce Me at Sunrise--Obviously, VERY much this lol.

Sarah MacLean also loves these heroes. Especially with:

A Rogue By Any Other Name--The hero has a gambling addiction, lost all his property years ago, and is scheming to get it back after bringing himself back to societal prominence. He forces the heroine to marry him and is incredibly dickish and snappy until he gets his shit together.

Daring and The Duke--The hero is the villain of the two previous books in the (Bareknuckle Bastards) series. He's just like. Obsessed with revenge, and then obsessed with getting the heroine back. He did some bad shit in the past and probably should hate himself, but it's fine. It's hot!

Elizabeth Hoyt loves this as well. Standouts include:

Duke of Midnight--Completely crazy hero. Georgian Batman. Very mean, much growly.

The Raven Prince--The hero has scars from smallpox, and is very grumpy and growly. The heroine works as his secretary. It's like, big Jane Eyre vibes but much more bonkers and a lot hotter.

Elizabeth Lowell is like... really good at this, though her books are older. I recommend all of her medieval books (it's a trilogy), but especially book 1, Untamed, for this type of hero. But again, all of the heroes in that series are this. These books are heavy on the old school vibes, including dubcon--book 3, Enchanted, features a heroine who was raped in the past as well.

Joanne Shupe does this well, too--I would recommend the Uptown Girls trilogy for heroes who are a bit heavier on the angst, as one of them is a lawyer with a dark past and the other two are essentially criminals.

asdjfkl; OKAY so earlier tonight i was reminded of this oc i have named henry blackwell. henry is a hotshot private detective from a wip i've been referring to as Blackwell & Linwood, though i'm thinking i might change the title now that i'm revamping it.

i've recycled some characters from it (like the rat king) for some other wips because i reached a point where i was like "no this is going to be something else now" but. no i wanna bring this back actually. i can cut some of the original cast and streamline it a bit but i love this concept actually

the basic plot kicks off with henry trying to solve a series of disappearances and bring the missing people home, but on the way he learns that there's more to these disappearances than meets the eye... there might just be something a little supernatural going on. which pisses henry off SO much because he hates the supernatural SO MUCH ASDFJKL;

i'm still figuring out how i'm going to revamp it but i will explain the basic main cast:

Henry Blackwell (he/him) - a smart-talking private detective who thinks he's hot shit and enjoys undermining authority (especially the police). He comes off as an asshole and kinda leans into that perception a bit, but he's actually a really sweet guy once you get to know him and genuinely cares about helping people. Comes from a very wealthy family but is estranged from his parents, who disapprove of pretty much everything about him. Class traitor (affectionate).

Addison Linwood (they/he) - a snarky witch with a lot of baggage who's incredibly casual about their magic, to the point where a lot of other witches don't respect them. Generally rude and crude but has a good heart deep down and also genuinely wants to help people. Enjoys teasing Henry about his lack of experience with the supernatural. Their familiar is a fat little dog named Biscuit who has no magical properties but LOVES being cuddled.

Piers / Roger (he/it) (settling on a new name for him asdfjkl) - a smooth-talking vampire who considers Addison his favorite human in the whole world. He loves seeing chaos unfold and finds their approach to their magic endlessly entertaining, especially when they do incredibly dangerous and sometimes unethical spells just to see if they can. Doesn't have a lot of respect for Henry at first but eventually comes to accept him as part of the group.

Hunter D'Angelo (she/they) - the host of a local radio show that mainly just covers local news, though occasionally she branches out into other topics. Kind of an asshole and very blunt and to the point, and also she's a little possessed by a demon, but like. A chill one. She gets along with it pretty well. She and Addison are besties/kinda friends with benefits and sometimes they do magic together. She takes no shit and is kind of mean, but she's also really sweet once you get to know her.

there's other characters (like henry's siblings etc etc) but i'll just share those four for now <3

Every now and then LIS fans on tumblr and reddit(especially reddit) will tell me a LIS multi story could not work because the other characters do not have an emotional connection to Max like Chloe has. Counterpoint. The other characters COULD have if DONTNOD actually bothered to build up on the other characters. So this is how I would give Warren, Kate and Victoria the same emotional connection to Max if it were up to me.

Warren. With Warren, Max would know him ever since preschool. Warren was born in Arcadia Bay, so there is no reason why Max and Warren couldn’t have know each other. Max and Warren knowing each other since preschool would’ve been cute as hell and seeing them reconnect and become best friends to lovers would’ve been the chef’s kiss. 

Kate. Nothing is said if Kate was born and grew up in Arcadia Bay, at least I don’t remember. But I think Max and Kate could’ve known each other in Sunday School. I realize that Max said that she never had a reason to go to Church in the game, but Max’s parents seem like they are very controlling considering that they wouldn’t even let Max say goodbye to Chloe.  But let’s say Max did attend church and Sunday school and Kate grew up in Arcadia Bay for a time. Max finding Church and Sunday School boring and miserable, until one day where she meets Kate Marsh. Max and Kate became fast friends. Kate's genuine kindness and beauty made Max believe in angels and even in god. I think with going to Sunday school and attending Church with Kate, Max would keep her childhood ponytail and headband cause Kate likes it, plus imagine how cute Max and Kate would look wearing similar church girl outfits. How Max looks in this au. Simple gray blazer, red blouse and dress pants while wearing a cross and a Doe pendent. When they both attend Blackwell, Max and Kate reconnect. Max notices  Kate’s sadness and learn what would happen. Max would spend the entire week with Kate. Showing her that the viral video does not define her, but Max and Kate would investigate the school to retrace her steps so they can find evidence. Over time Max and Kate would fall for each other and Max and Kate would bring Jeffershit to justice. Max and Kate get their happy ending where they write the children’s book together and eventually get married, even with Kate’s family’s blessing. 

Victoria. Simple. Max and Victoria would’ve been friends in Seattle. Victoria helped Max through her grieving period and helped made her time away from Chloe special and amazing. To put it simple. Victoria is to Max as what Rachel was to Chloe. They would take pictures together. Victoria would introduce Max to some Gucci clothes and high fashion in general. While Max would just help Victoria to loosen up and learn that art and life in general is not a dog eat dog world. When Victoria left for Arcadia Bay, Victoria changes. When Max returns, there is a drift between her and Victoria. They would eventually reconnect, relearn that they are friends and embrace each other and find love in each other while bringing justice to Kate. 

Nathan. With Nathan, maybe one day Max meets Nathan when they are kids and met at the pier or the Aquarium and they had a kindred connection. This was when Nathan was happy. He had his mother and sister and his dad was less of an asshole to him. Nathan in Max had a genuine connection. Max saw Nathan as kind, but sad. Then we go forward and we see that Nathan has changed for the worse and Max has to try and see if she can bring back the boy she once knew back.

PEARL HARBOR, HAWAII (August 10, 2020) -- United States Navy amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) arrived here with an unusual collection of aircraft -- 14 vintage World War II airplanes.

Instead of a flight deck normally crowded with 21st century F-35B Lightning II fighter jets and helicopters....the warship was on a unique mission to bring a group of historic military aircraft known as the "Warbirds" across the Eastern Pacific Ocean from California to Hawaii....

....for a series of aerial parades upcoming in late August and early September 2020 commemorating the end of World War II in the Pacific theatre, exactly 75 years earlier, in 1945.

“Salute Their Service, Honor Their Hope” is the theme of the commemoration in recognition of the WWII veterans and civilians who contributed to the end of the war....

....at the place where WWII began for the United States with the devastating Imperial Japanese Navy attack on the American Fleet moored at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

The Imperial Japanese Navy destroys the American Fleet at Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941....including the deadly (nearly 1,200 American Sailors died onboard) sinking of battleship USS Arizona (BB 39).

The fourteen historic airplanes are scheduled to conduct a series of flyovers around the island of Oahu, including Honolulu, on August 29 and 30, 2020....

....and in conjunction with the September 2, 2020 ceremony in Pearl Harbor aboard the Battleship Missouri Memorial....where the war was officially ended 75 years earlier aboard USS Missouri (BB 63) while moored in Tokyo Bay, September 2, 1945.

Anecdotes of Hecate

Hecate (Hekate) is a goddess of Greek mythology who was capable of both good and evil. She was especially associated with witchcraft, magic, the Moon, doorways, and creatures of the night such as hell-hounds and ghosts.

From the 5th century BCE, the goddess is associated with the darker side of the human experience, that is death, witchcraft, magic, the Moon, dreams, fierce hounds and creatures which roam the darkness of night. As the Oxford Classical Dictionary phrases it,

"…outlandish in her infernal aspects, she is more at home on the fringes than in the centre of Greek polytheism. Intrinsically ambivalent and polymorphous, she straddles conventional boundaries and eludes definition." (649)

Hesiod describes her as the goddess supports warriors, athletes, hunters, horsemen, herdsmen, shepherds, fishermen, and children. Her companions are the Furies (Erinyes), the winged creatures who punished wrong-doing, and her children are the Empusae, female demons partial to seducing travelers.

The goddess had unusual rituals performed in her honor, which include the offerings of food - given at crossroads, road junctions, and any other sort of boundary or threshold - known as 'the supper of Hecate'. These took the form of small cakes of eggs, cheese, bread, and dog meat, which were lit with miniature torches or, alternatively, a dish of red mullet, which was usually prohibited from offerings to the other gods.

“Peaceful Pier,” March 2022, By Kaitlyn Delott

Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Illinois is the location of hills, lakes, paths, and forests. This gave me a lot of opportunities to take different photos and get experience taking pictures of different landscapes. At around 4pm you can see a pier that looks out into the water and the hilly forest beyond, as the sun started to get lower in the sky, the shadows as they are getting longer. Since there were many clouds in the sky and the sun was further down in the sky it made for great lighting, as it was not too harsh or direct. The weather during this photo was very warm, and even though most of the nature is dead from the winter you are able to see a lot of it coming back to life and the warmth that is casted over. The focal point is the pier itself and all of the lines within the pier and helping to lead the viewers eyes back into the pier. When composing I wanted to focus on all of the lines with in the pier, which is why I stood where I did to capture the long wood beams pointing in every direction .
