So, in SVSSS, Shen Yuan makes a few really interesting assumptions when he sits down to speak properly to Airplane Bro for the first time. The first assumption is that Shang Qinghua is a transmigrator. Two of the other assumptions he makes, connected to this first one, arguably contradict each other slightly in fascinating ways. (I will put the full relevant scene fragment / quotation from these chapters under the cut at the end.)
Shen Yuan's assumption that Shang Qinghua is a transmigrator appears to be built first and foremost on the fact that he heard SQH say, "WTF!" during the conference. Shen Yuan also reveals: "At the time, Shen Qingqiu hadn’t heard him particularly clearly, so he hadn’t paid it any mind. But afterward, the more he’d thought about it, the more suspicious he’d grown." (Ch5)
So, Shen Yuan belatedly decides that he hadn't misheard this one accidental slip during a chaotic attack that damaged him both physically and emotionally. He definitely heard that correctly! He's confident enough that he invites Shang Qinghua over to his house and then immediately and calmly accuses his fellow peak lord of treason. Shen Yuan very casually says: "How was it inadequate? You clearly overexerted yourself. You even found demonic creatures like the ghost-head spiders, Nu Yuan Chan, and bone eagles—none of which ever enter the Human Realm of their own volition. How could Shixiong rebuke you for inadequacy?" (Ch4)
Shang Qinghua sputters, jumps to his feet, turns red, blusters with offense, sneers, brushes Shen Yuan's hand away.
"“Why wouldn’t I? I have a clear conscience. Why would I fear a false accusation?” With a sneer, Shang Qinghua brushed away his hand.
“Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky?” asked Shen Qingqiu." (Ch4)
When Shen Yuan says Airplane Bro's ID, Shang Qinghua pauses and says, “You… How do you know my ID?” (Ch4) And the scene immediately switches from a confrontation between two peak lords regarding treason to a transmigration reveal.
But hey, let's go back to that first version of the scene! What if Shang Qinghua hadn't been a transmigrator? Shen Yuan must have mentally reviewed what happened at the conference and all of their previous encounters, but he still could have been wrong in this assumption. He might have misheard and misinterpreted.
In which case, throwing out Airplane's ID wouldn't have stopped the scene and Shen Yuan would now have to deal with a belligerent traitor who 1) isn't admitting to what he did and/or 2) may turn violent in self-defense. Shen Yuan even admits: "He’d only wanted to study Shang Qinghua’s reaction to this name to determine if he had also read Proud Immortal Demon Way—but given his reaction…he wasn’t just a reader, was he?!" (Ch4) Shen Yuan has no proof of Shang Qinghua's crimes and everyone thinks he's out of his mind with grief, probably searching for someone to blame, though Yue Qingyuan might indulgently open an investigation anyway and might actually end up finding something.
If this had been Original Shang Qinghua, this confrontation could have broken out into a fight. It was reckless. But I'm not reading it as "recklessly stupid" so much as "recklessly aggressive".
If Shen Yuan had been focused purely on revealing a fellow transmigrator, he could have opened this conversation with something like, "Have you ever heard of the writer 'Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky'?" And whatever answer he received then would have told him if he was dealing with a fellow transmigrator, who could be disarmed by this revelation, or if he was dealing with Original Shang Qinghua, who would just be confused and might try to kill him later for knowing too much. Once he had that information in hand, Shen Yuan could go from there.
But no, Shen Yuan opens with Shang Qinghua's crimes first. Which makes me suspect that he is angry with the man for causing the disaster at the Immortal Alliance Conference. If Shang Qinghua hadn't let in the demons, Shen Yuan wouldn't have been forced to push Luo Binghe into the Endless Abyss. I personally don't think that Shen Yuan would have minded here if this confrontation had turned violent. He's perfectly capable of dealing out violence. He's a pretty good fighter, even with the Without A Cure issue, and with his confidence here... I'm going to assume that Shen Yuan thinks he could take Shang Qinghua in a fight. He may be right.
He's probably also confident that Yue Qingyuan would side with him if he had to kill a fellow peak lord (a traitor) in self-defense. I agree with this assessment. I think Shen Qingqiu's reputation would take a hard hit, as would Cang Qiong, but Shang Qinghua is a traitor here. If they could find any proof whatsoever, then the other peak lords would probably begrudgingly go along with this story.
To be clear, I don't think that Shen Yuan is entering into this conversation thinking about killing Shang Qinghua. I think he would attempt capture first. But he IS entering into this conversation resolved to either 1) unmask Shang Qinghua as a transmigrator or 2) unmask Shang Qinghua as a traitor and accomplice to murder. If Shen Yuan is wrong, he cannot take this accusation back. He is either finding a "friend from his hometown" or he is making a very serious enemy here. If Original Shang Qinghua manages to pretend he's innocent and shake off these accusations, clearing any trial Cang Qiong holds for him, then he's presumably going to be secretly gunning for Shen Qingqiu from then on.
I do think Shen Yuan starts this confrontation off being angry - angry at Shang Qinghua, angry at himself, angry at the situation - underneath his calm. I think he's ready for a fight if necessary. I kind of think he might want one on some level. I think he's feeling a little reckless in his fresh grief and loneliness.
Because the other option is that Shen Yuan entered this conversation unprepared for the possibility of being wrong about there being another transmigrator and getting a really bad reaction from Original Shang Qinghua, and I'd really like to think that he's smarter than that. Shen Yuan can be pretty clever. It is totally possible that he is just not thinking beyond his assumption here, though. Shen Yuan can also get caught up in his own ideas and emotions sometimes.
I think this would make a fun Alternate Canon / Canon Divergence AU: "Shen Yuan is completely wrong about Shang Qinghua being a transmigrator and has just revealed to Original Shang Qinghua that he knows what the man did. Uh oh."
ANYWAY! That's just the first assumption that Shen Yuan makes: Shang Qinghua is another transmigrator. Connected to this first assumption are a couple other assumptions about this other transmigrator that are both also really interesting.
The second assumption is this: "As the one who’d masterminded the event (or the logistics of it), Shang Qinghua was subject to the irresistible pressure of the plot[.]" (Ch5) Shen Yuan assumes that the plot forced Airplane Bro to smuggle these beasts into the Immortal Alliance Conference, much like he himself was forced to push Luo Binghe into the Endless Abyss.
I would have to go check the Airplane extras to be sure, but we don't know that this is true. I do remember from the Airplane extras that the System would have been cool with Airplane Bro killing Mobei-Jun, who is arguably an incredibly important character to many PIDW plotlines. I've often interpreted this as Airplane Bro having far more freedom to make his own decisions. We the audience do know that the System forced Airplane Bro to stay with Cang Qiong Mountain Sect and to become the head disciple of An Ding Peak. We don't know for sure that the System put pressure on Shang Qinghua to make the invasion of the Immortal Alliance Conference happen. It's implied when Shang Qinghua gets the return home feature from the System that he doesn't see it often.
Shen Yuan doesn't know these things. Shen Yuan is assuming here their transmigration experiences are very similar. Shen Yuan doesn't really directly ask.
Personally, I do think that the System was involved somehow, even if Airplane Bro's consequences for failure or disobedience weren't nearly so dreadful. With a second transmigrator and their desires in the mix, and the beginning of the real plot with Luo Binghe, it's possible that System put more restrictions on Airplane Bro and locked him onto this path (freeing him after the original outline with the romance deviation is complete). I personally headcanon that Airplane Bro could have wriggled out of the Immortal Alliance Conference without any serious punishment from the System, because I think it's funny if Shen Yuan's most hated event could have suddenly not happened if only Airplane Bro had decided not to do it, but I think that that Airplane Bro didn't try to buck the System because 1) he was generally okay with keeping the plot on track and 2) he was unwilling to challenge Mobei-Jun by resisting any orders on this front. He chose to save Mobei-Jun, now he has to live with that.
Shen Yuan doesn't seriously take Airplane Bro to task for all of the deaths and injuries at the Immortal Alliance Conference. I think a large part of this is that Shen Yuan not-unreasonably assumes Airplane Bro was forced into doing it by the System and Shen Yuan simply doesn't really interrogate Airplane Bro thoroughly to be sure. I think he unconsciously wants this assumption to be true in part because that means there's someone who really understands what he was forced to do to Luo Binghe, he's invested in the Endless Abyss being necessary, but also because now he isn't alone generally and has someone to help him fake his death. Shen Yuan is first and foremost out to save his own skin at this point in the story.
To be clear, I think it's very reasonable for Shen Yuan to assume another transmigrator is also being strictly forced to follow the plot. He doesn't know Shang Qinghua is the author at first. He doesn't know just how different their transmigration experiences have been. The assumption is valid. It's just not actually certain.
The third assumption by Shen Yuan here is what really stood out to me during my reread. It's what made me start thinking more seriously about this confrontation and its setup. Shen Yuan thinks to himself: "As the one who’d masterminded the event (or the logistics of it), Shang Qinghua was subject to the irresistible pressure of the plot—yet he hadn’t released the Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python that should have starred in numerous scenes. This was suspicious in itself, but if you considered the possibility that he had failed to do this intentionally in order to hinder the development of the plot—to sever the tragedy of Luo Binghe’s fall into the Endless Abyss at its roots—it made sense." (Ch5)
In the original PIDW, a Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python appeared at the Immortal Alliance Conference, and opened the Endless Abyss with its spatial-rift-creating scream. Mobei-Jun does it in SVSSS, appearing hundreds of chapters early. (I wrote a long meta piece on how I think Luo Binghe's seal works, and why it had to be something or someone with space-manipulation powers breaking it. It's under the "luo binghe demonic seal" tag.)
Shen Yuan noticed that the Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python failed to appear and also decided that Shang Qinghua was genuinely surprised by Mobei-Jun's appearance instead. Shen Yuan assumes here that the Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python's absence was an intentional act on the Shang Qinghua transmigrator's part in order to stop Luo Binghe's fall into the Endless Abyss. This is a WILD assumption. It's possible that Shang Qinghua just failed to get one. It's possible that there was one somewhere else in Jue Di Gorge, but they simply didn't run into the creature.
It's also possible that Shen Yuan is right. Maybe Airplane Bro decided to quietly remove the Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python from the conference, single-handedly preventing 1) Luo Binghe's demonic seal from being broken and 2) the Endless Abyss from being opened. Maybe he thought the System would overlook this until it was too late? But something about this interference made Mobei-Jun suspicious and he showed up to investigate instead.
Or Shang Qinghua organized Mobei-Jun's appearance and interference somehow, because MBJ breaks the demonic seal cleanly in SVSSS, whereas PIDW Binghe needed the Xin Mo sword to completely remove the seal only partially broken by the Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python. We really don't know what Shang Qinghua was doing. Or what Mobei-Jun was doing.
I think this assumption is fascinating, because Airplane Bro being able to omit the BMRP kind of contradicts the assumption that he was forced by the System to ruin the conference. Not completely, of course. Shen Yuan may be assuming that Shang Qinghua's System-given quest spoke of beasts generally, rather than the BMRP specifically, and Shang Qinghua was trying to work futilely around the System's wording in order to prevent Luo Binghe's fall. It's possible that the System did not tell Shang Qinghua directly to ensure the opening of the Endless Abyss. The System may have only demanded that he assist in the demonic invasion generally.
But these assumptions still bump up against each other in interesting ways, to me, even if they don't directly contradict each other. Shen Yuan thinks that pushing Luo Binghe into the Endless Abyss was demanded by the plot, but he also thinks Shang Qinghua's meddling with the BMRP could have stopped it somehow? Or that Shang Qinghua simply tried to stop it by removing a necesssary plot device and the System compensated with Mobei-Jun, because Luo Binghe's fall is an inevitable event? Shen Yuan thinks Shang Qinghua was forced to release beasts on the conference, causing a great deal of death and injury, but he also assumes that Shang Qinghua was able to pick the beasts on some level. Maybe he's assuming that Mobei-Jun picked the beasts and Shang Qinghua simply got rid of the BMRP somehow?
It makes way more sense that Mobei-Jun both collected the beasts and released them into the conference, using his spatial manipulation powers, and Shang Qinghua only helped with intelligence and keys to the security. Shen Yuan comments on how dangerous these creatures are. I really don't think that Shang Qinghua collected them personally or put them into Jue Di Gorge personally; I think that would have been pretty dangerous and that lots of people on An Ding Peak and beyond would have noticed during event planning and setup. And if Mobei-Jun did most of the work (and entered the conference properly himself in SVSSS, rather than just disappearing without being seen in PIDW, I assume), then I don't really see how Shang Qinghua could have done much of anything to stop a BMRP from getting in. Maybe he asked Mobei-Jun to avoid BMRPs, please, and that made Mobei-Jun suspicious?
My assumption here is honestly that Shen Yuan isn't thinking too hard about what Shang Qinghua is personally responsible for, because he just doesn't want to think about it. If this is Original Shang Qinghua, Shen Yuan can bring him to justice. If this is a fellow transmigrator, then Shen Yuan has an accomplice / friend. He's trying to move forward so he doesn't have to look back.
I don't think his assumption that Airplane Bro got rid of the BMRP on purpose is out of nowhere. I think it's pretty reasonable to assume another transmigrator, if there is one, might have been seeking to change the plot for the better somehow and the System didn't allow it. I just think this particular assumption is a little wild, because Shen Yuan doesn't really confirm it. (I haven't thoroughly reread the whole scene. I could be wrong about this.) Shen Yuan and Airplane Bro go on to have a different transmigrator argument, distracted by the revelation that this is the author and not another reader, and Shen Yuan doesn't try to confirm his theories. He doesn't ask Shang Qinghua if his wild (if plausible) assumption is actually correct. Like Shen Yuan doesn't really want to know for certain whether or not they could have changed things.
But, anyway, wow, that assumption is an interesting and funny Canon Divergence AU plot! What if Airplane Bro quietly removed the Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python from his traitorous invasion, and Mobei-Jun didn't show up instead, so Luo Binghe's seal simply didn't break and the Endless Abyss never opened? Would the System still demand that Shen Qingqiu push Luo Binghe into an Endless Abyss that isn't here? Would the System glitch? Would the System simply have to recalculate because it wasn't specific about what it needed Shang Qinghua to make happen here? Would the System just let Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe go back to Cang Qiong again?
~
RELEVANT QUOTATION (end of "Chapter 4: Conference" into the very beginning of "Chapter 5: Bai Lu"):
Shang Qinghua said nothing but sighed along with him. “Ah, Luo-shizhi was a heroic youth, such a pity. Those demons brought such disaster upon us; they are truly hateful. The whole world mourns with us. Shen-shixiong, my condolences.”
“If Shang-shidi truly felt it was a pity, this tragedy would not have occurred,” Shen Qingqiu said faintly.
At this, Shang Qinghua stiffened. After a moment, he seamlessly smoothed things over with a smile. “What does Shen-shixiong mean by that? Is he rebuking our An Ding Peak for inadequate administration? If so, Shidi should truly apologize.”
Shen Qingqiu refilled his teacup. “How was it inadequate? You clearly overexerted yourself. You even found demonic creatures like the ghost-head spiders, Nu Yuan Chan, and bone eagles—none of which ever enter the Human Realm of their own volition. How could Shixiong rebuke you for inadequacy?”
“Peak Lord Shen—to make such outrageous accusations!” Shang Qinghua shot to his feet, his face rapidly changing colors.
Shen Qingqiu put his hand on Shang Qinghua’s shoulder. “Why is Shang-shidi getting so excited?” he asked solemnly. “Let’s sit down and talk. Let me say something. Do you dare respond?”
“Why wouldn’t I? I have a clear conscience. Why would I fear a false accusation?” With a sneer, Shang Qinghua brushed away his hand.
“Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky?” asked Shen Qingqiu.
In that instant, it was like a bolt of lightning from the heavens had struck Shang Qinghua in the head, rendering him unable to speak.
After a long time, he managed to stammer out, “You… How do you know my ID?”
In that moment, it was like Shen Qingqiu had also been burnt to a crisp by the aforementioned bolt of lightning.
He’d only wanted to study Shang Qinghua’s reaction to this name to determine if he had also read Proud Immortal Demon Way—but given his reaction…he wasn’t just a reader, was he?!
After three long seconds, Shen Qingqiu jumped on him.
“It’s you?! How could I not know your ID after reading your entire fucking novel?! If you hadn’t let something slip when Mobei-Jun appeared, I really never would have known what hole you’d really crawled out of, ‘Great Master’!”
Volume 1, Chapter 4: Conference
The moment Shang Qinghua had seen Mobei-Jun suddenly appear, he had accidentally let out a “WTF!”
At the time, Shen Qingqiu hadn’t heard him particularly clearly, so he hadn’t paid it any mind. But afterward, the more he’d thought about it, the more suspicious he’d grown.
As the one who’d masterminded the event (or the logistics of it), Shang Qinghua was subject to the irresistible pressure of the plot—yet he hadn’t released the Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python that should have starred in numerous scenes. This was suspicious in itself, but if you considered the possibility that he had failed to do this intentionally in order to hinder the development of the plot—to sever the tragedy of Luo Binghe’s fall into the Endless Abyss at its roots—it made sense.

what if I made a thing or it already was that while Airplane wrote the world, Peerless Cucumber illustrated it (only the animals. And Binghe, fighting the animals.) And then then then
He'd totally do it on an alt account, right?? Peerless Cucumber can't be seen making fanart!! (And he's good at it. Like, wiki is using his art in the monsters and beasts pages (that Peerless Cucumber volleyed for. He also separated it from the plant section.) Because 1 its good 2 the artstyle is consistent 3 there isn't a lot of monster official art, other than that one with the black moon rhinoceros python and those other ones and 4 it's really that good)
Haha incomprehensible parenthesis nesting aside, Airplane is watching the forums, right? Not sure about other stuff in canon but he looks at the forums and the fanart and the fiction and most of it is probably corn and binghe and just a little bit of mobei-jun and also the wives tm but!! There's also that guy!!! The monsters guy!! (People would probably suspect 'Drawing the Beast's Ire'- or some other sex euphemism I'm not good at making those- of being Peerless Cucumber because 1 the writing style is the same 2 Peerless Cucumber is the number 1 contributor to the PIDW wiki and a lot of it is the monsters and beasts section and it makes sense, yes??) Anyway, Airplane shooting towards the sky suspects but not too seriously suspects Mr ire of being cucumber's fanart alt but uh uh that ends pre-transmigration section
So, Shen Yuan starts running about, right? Things seem really... familiar, maybe thats the word?- for some reason. This is because every animal and plant he's ever drawn, sketched- maybe even thought about but that's a stretch?- is his design. The firefly parallels hold their forelimbs like butterflies. That is how far down it goes. Maybe it doesn't come up until later, but beasts and monsters from fanfiction get involved, oc species, too... anyway,
Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky transmigrates 30 years (iirc) before Peerless Cucumber. He was an avid enough follower of Drawing the Beast's Ire to recognize that these are their designs! Here's where it gets really crazy. Xiao-Mobei comes along, and while he's still pretty young, Airplane can tell that this is Drawing Ire's design! Some aspect, maybe his ears or teeth, (this isn't a well built theoretical tangent) of Mobei isnt canon. Its Drawing Ire's. From that one Northern Kingdom collection. Whatever stretched his world building into coherence, completion, didn't just pull from fanwork, official art, whatever it could find, it went for Drawing the Beast's Ire's designs specifically. Damn that's crazy Airplane ahahaha moving on,
This is getting really long so I'll be a bit more concise, (want to know more? Talk to me. Please talk to me. I want to interact with the fandom. Ask me questions. Poke your fingers into my cage.) This all comes to head at the Immortal alliance conference. The monsters and beasts really start pouring in! And Shen Qingqiu/Yuan remembers his creations. However, he assumes that this is because like 1 other person maybe was Drawing ghost head spiders.
Hey, Peerless Cucumber really liked the monsters, right? The deadlier, crazier, more intricate, the design the better! So maybe, when he was drawing, he... added some things, really believable, logical additions, really just small creative decisions...
Anyway, the monsters that Drawing the Beast's Ire made were where it came to a head.
Lets have another Canon divergence. Maybe, during or after Binghe gets pushed in, out of the rifts comes a species that Drawing Ire created. It's beautiful, poisonous, beloved, and really quite deadly. Shen Yuan/Qingqiu, Peerless Cucumber, Drawing the Beast's Ire... realizes, quite like airplane before him, that he's illustrated, practically sculpted with his own hands, monsters from the Endless Abyss with claws and teeth and poisons as deadly as Peerless Cucumber thought that the really cool monsters could deserve. It feels like he's the one cutting, biting, poisoning his sweet little sheep. It feels like he's digging out the marrow from his little white lotus disciple's bones.
Ok it is shut up time 👍

Original Shen Qingqiu, trying to stop Luo Binghe's courting, unintentionally assigns him missions to become the Demon Emperor AU
Yue Qingyuan coming to save Shen Jiu from the Qiu successfully, or late but communicates about Xuan Su well enough, or whatever the reason but their relationship is good, so Shen Qingqiu isn't a bitter man, accepts Binghe into Qing Jing not out of spite of Liu Qingge but because Ning Yingying pleads him relentlessly, doesn't pour tea on Binghe's head because Shen Qingqiu has a brother even if he doesn't have a mother, doesn't abuse Binghe, and teaches him normally.
Starry eyed Binghe reveres Shen Qingqiu as his saviour who picks him up from dirt and gives him a new life.
Binghe's cultivation and skills are very good. Meng Mo still comes to teach him. In the Immortal Alliance Conference, Binghe is able to beat Black Moon Rhinoceros Pythons without his demonic seal broken. No one discovers he's a half demon. He's never thrown into the Endless Abyss, and never gets Xin Mo. Binghe's seal is much later broken quietly, privately, in a controlled environment with Meng Mo.
Binghe's romantic feelings towards his shizun are showing more and more. He doesn't cry and whine like in SVSSS because Shen Jiu isn't Shen Yuan and isn't weak to that kind of behaviours. Shen Jiu likes competency and intelligence so Binghe does missions in the ways that show off those quialities, subtly in normal people's eyes, but blatantly to Shen Qingqiu's sharp perception.
For quite a while, Shen Qingqiu is paranoid that a certain disciple is trying to untimely usurp his position before he ascends. Fortunately Binghe possibly notices and stops before where it encroaches on Shen Qingqiu's authorities and position. Shen Qingqiu relaxes marginally.
Nevertheless, Luo Binghe's displays are a bit too overbearing and annoying for Shen Qingqiu's liking, so he sends Binghe to more and more outrageous missions: to fight beasts more and more dangerous, to retrieve plants and treasures rarer and rarer, to go to locations farther and farther until they might as well be in the middle of the Demon Realm, to complete tasks more and more complex they might as well be like dissolving the centuries old feuds between demon clans, (as in Shen Qingqiu inevitably pushes Binghe to do things paralell to PIDW!Binghe does to become the Demon Emperor and unify realms,) hoping Luo Binghe will eventually fail or give up, but of course, Shen Qingqiu underestimates Luo Binghe's protagonist halo and tenacity.
Qing Jing Peak's reputation skyrockets, not that Shen Qingqiu is particularly thrilled.
When Yue Qingyuan comes for their usual tea, seeing Shen Qingqiu scowls as if trying to tackle a puzzle he can't solve, he asks, "Xiao Jiu, is there anything I can help you with?"
Shen Qingqiu sighs and answers, "Qi ge, deal with my head disciple for me. Give him a shovel talk or something."

that little snippet with Sayuri and Shen Jiu makes me incredibly curious about that AU. How much interaction have they had up to that point (because I'm assuming it was the real Haitang at some point? Or did Sayuri wake up without powers so had to bide her time or something)? Also how differently would the plot go, because I can't imagine Sayuri would stand for Shen Jiu treating children poorly or the suspicions of Shen Jiu's martial siblings/old peak lords
Yeah I definitely viewed it as a transmigration thing, where Sayuri landed in Qiu Haitang's body shortly before the Qiu massacre. I guess in this verse, I saw her as more of a mixture of Lily and Sayuri-- more jaded than Lily, less hardened than Sayuri. Maybe a Sayuri who died early on, who didn't survive the fighting rings, who thought it was over and she could finally rest-- only to wake up in yet another unfamiliar body.
Playing the part of the innocent, naive, happy-go-lucky girl (at least until she gets her bearings) is one of the more challenging things she's done but if there's one thing she's learned from Sousuke, it's how to put on a convincing mask. She latches on to Shen Jiu because his wounds so remind her of her brother's-- that same ruthless drive to do anything in order to survive.
For the first few months of their acquaintance, Shen Jiu is in a constant state of bewilderment that the girl he'd always viewed as the epitome of innocence is, in actuality, kind of a bitch. He's never felt closer to her. Shortly after they come of age, Haitang suggests very calmly and reasonably that they get married after all. She times her proposal perfectly to the split second after Shen Jiu takes a sip of tea and pretends that his resultant sputtering and choking was not at all her intention.
("It's only practical, it's not exactly a secret that you and I spend the majority of our nights together. We might as well make the rumors official. Now I've always been partial to the idea of a fall wedding, what do you think? The leaves are always so lovely that time of year, all golden and red like-- yes, the exact shade your face is turning, thank you for demonstrating, A-Jiu.")
It's a purely platonic marriage, of course, but it does wonders for fixing Shen Jiu's reputation. It's an ongoing debate on Cang Qiong over who's scarier-- the Qing Jing Peak Lord or his wife, who was once rumored to make a Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python cower away with a single glare. Things go pretty well for a while.
And then Luo Binghe arrives.
(In one world, Luo Binghe goes to bed as the Emperor of the Combined Realms with an unmatched harem of over 600 renowned beauties. When he wakes up, he is 12 years old again, weak, powerless, and back at Qing Jing Peak-- the source of some of his worst memories, a place he'd once burned to ashes. Worse, he is back at the mercy of Shen Qingqiu, who is now...happily married to the woman who was instrumental to bringing him down?)

Lmao I still can’t get over the fact that the PIDW world is basically a world where every fucking plot device you can think of could exist. It’s canon that Airplane wrote it in such a way that several wife plots and tropes were basically crammed into this world with some shitty naming conventions as the toppings. Just love the fact that fanfic writers for SVSSS can basically go apeshit with whatever plot device or aphrodisiac they decide to create and use in their fics and it would STILL BE CANON COMPLIANT.
We also never really get to read much about the plants, demons, and animals in PIDW save for some (Heavenly demons, the sun and moon flower, those black moon rhinoceros pythons). It just gives me so much joy reading about plants, animals, and demons that fanfic authors create when making SVSSS fics because the way the original text was written makes it practically canon compliant.
Bonus: Most of the time they also have shitty names and I love it. Thank you great god Airplane.

Feathers in a Storm - Ch 11
AO3
From the Beginning
Mobei Jun had not planned for such a violent conclusion to the issue of Xiao Gongzhu, but he didn’t regret severing her head. The woman had tried to poison him, and if the book they’d found in the tower was to be believed it was with some sort of love potion. If she’d succeeded he’d become more of a puppet than a king.
She wasn’t even the true kingmaker, Shang was. If Mobei Jun was to be exploited for his throne it should be by the man that put him there, not some grasping harlot.
Thankfully he’d worn the ring with the powdered black moon rhinoceros python horn, he couldn’t thank Luo Binghe enough for having the foresight to process the trophy. He’d been angry about its uselessness in saving his father, but it was enough to save him. Since it was Qinghua who had brought back the object he counted it as another stroke of luck provided by the raven’s presence.
There had been surprisingly little fallout for his actions, slaying the daughter of the ruler of a city state should have caused greater commotion, but aside from its lavish palace and gaudy decor there wasn’t much Huan Hua could do to contest him. Any reparations her father could demand were easily countered by her intent to poison him, with ample evidence, provided by her staff as well as the lair hidden at the bottom of the tower.
There was the matter of the strange entity that had fled when they entered, but a witch’s sanctum was likely filled with all manner of demonic presences. Still Luo Binghe had collected the woman’s books for future reference, while black magic users were few and far between it would not go astray to know how to counter them in the future.
He had expected Shang’s reply, either by letter or face to face. The man’s wicked mistress was dead and any contract she held would be null and void. He was free, and Mobei Jun hoped that Shang would join him for the trip back to the north.
He waited three days but there was no sign of the man.
It was hard not to imagine that maybe Shang was not as invested in Mobei Jun as the prince first thought. Would the man simply gain freedom and leave everything behind? He’d tried to make it clear in his letter, he wanted Shang to stay, but even if he didn’t Mobei Jun expected a reply at the very least.
Waiting shouldn’t have been such a trial, Luo Binghe had some business to take care of in the city and Mobei Jun was being pacified by the city’s ruler, but even the old palace master didn’t seem to know anything about his daughter’s wayward servant.

Has anyone ever made TTRPG stats for some of the creatures in MXTX's novel? I feel like it would be awesome to use some Black Moon Rhinoceros Pythons in a DnD campaign.

Sooo... chapter 1 (page 11) says outright: "Luo Binghe used Xin Mo to release his body's seal on his demonic blood." Direct quote. I now feel very, VERY silly for missing this line when I was writing my essay on how I headcanoned Su Xiyan's seal on Binghe's demon side working, but it's also nice to be proven right in a way!
The Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python's abyss-summoning call (canon) must have only partially broken this space-based seal (headcanon) to reveal PIDW Binghe to the original Shen Qingqiu, and Xin Mo's special abilities were needed to get the seal off fully. Which means that PIDW Binghe was going through the Endless Abyss WITHOUT full access to his demon side, with a broken seal that I feel I can also assume was painful and probably impeded his cultivation.
No WONDER that SVSSS Binghe speedran his way through the Endless Abyss comparatively. Mobei-Jun (with his own weird abyss and portal powers, replacing the BMRP) ripped that seal clean off on the spot! Binghe got slam-dunked into full access to his demon side, but at least he didn't have to suffer the potential horrible pain of a half-broken seal for up to maybe five years.
It makes me want to think about (canon divergence / alternate canon) fic ideas in which Shang Qinghua might have dropped a line or even directly orchestrated this with Mobei-Jun - "Hey, my king, there's a heavenly demon kid at my sect with a really special seal on his powers, I think only you could rip it off? Then he could finally go to the Demon Realm!" - because if Airplane can't prevent his protagonist from going into the tyrant-making pit of suffering and despair (System says it has to happen), then maybe he can make it a little less torturous? Maybe that'll save his ass or Mobei-Jun's ass someday by making Bing-ge a little less insane- oh, shit, Shen Qingqiu is a fucking TRANSMIGRATOR?!

“Do you ever feel as if this world is simply too fantastical?” Shen Qingqiu asked, tapping his closed fan against his lips, and staring into the distance. “Forget cultivators and demons. Take the Black Moon Rhinoceros Python, for instance.” Liu Qingge agreed those were fantastically hard to kill, making them good for a challenge. Shen Qingqiu huffed, then did something he'd never done before. He /laughed/, face bright with good humor. Staring helplessly, Liu Qingge felt his world shift. (1/2)
As Shen Qingqiu wiped away a tear, he stilled, laughter stopping abruptly. “Forgive me,” he murmured, snapping his fan open to retreat behind it. His eyes were averted but intent, gleaming with some inner light, and his words—this world is simply too fantastical—echoed in Liu Qingge’s head. “I wasn’t myself.” Liu Qingge knew that for a lie. He’d witnessed something genuine. Unsure what he had done to break through Shen Qingqiu’s facade, he felt he’d do anything to see him laugh again. (2/2)

SV ch.58
it’s here, guys, the chapter is out, go go go go.
opening scene: a rhinoceros spitting out a snake. uhm.
EDIT:
Upon seeing Luo Binghe, Shen Qingqiu had subconsciously moved closer to Zhuzhi-Lang’s back. It wasn’t that he was still fleeing Luo Binghe at every opportunity, but that he had a guilty conscience and no face to see him. He didn’t dare think what sort of mood Luo Binghe would be in after seeing him breathe his last breath before his eyes for the second time.
the thought keeps breaking my heart, sqq now you know lbh is far less diabolic than you thought, your disciple is still in there, PLEASE TALK TO HIM. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW MUCH HE IS SUFFERING RIGHT NOW?
EDIT 2:
Tianlang-Jun raised an eyebrow, this expression also bearing a remarkable resemblance to Luo Binghe. “And he wouldn’t hesitate to capture two hundred Black Moon Rhinoceros Pythons to break the wards around the Holy Mausoleum. Peak Lord Shen, this son of mine really does hold some extraordinary feelings towards you.”
Shen Qingqiu had no retort to that. This was the demonic beast which, in the original work, could render even the Endless Abyss with its call. And for breaking into the Holy Mausoleum, Luo Binghe had captured two hundred of them for a single-time use.
i’ll probably sound crazy, but this is kinda romantic? the mausoleum is obviously an important place for the demon race, even lbh was working to proceed in the right order, waiting to be ready to go in there with his demonic buddies and all, so for him to just barge in to retrieve shizun’s body, not caring about conseguences or anything, hunting such powerful demonic beasts... *swoons*
EDIT 3:
He fixed an unwavering glare on Shen Qingqiu, sparks bursting in his eyes, looking like he was both boiling with anger and about to cry.
he is so intense and so precious at the same time, like, i wanna hug him and run away at the same time! sqq all tense and worried for him while lbh fights with father-in-law, i am scared his dad is gonna do something bad and everything will crumble down again and that’s not what they deserve!!
also, lbh throwing xiu ya at sqq and looking away only after making sure that shizun had a means to protect himself -my body is pounding at the same rhythm as my heart, this is love
EDIT 4:
Wasn’t! The! Protagonist’s! Halo! An! Unbreakable! Golden! Body! Laid! Down! In! Law!?
OKAY I AM FREAKING OUT??? IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE LAWS OF THE STORY DO NOT APPLY TO FATHER-IN-LAW??? it wouldn’t be strange, i think, since he is part of the novel, but not really of the author’s “official” universe, being cut out and all. THIS IS SO INTRIGUING AND SCARY!!!!!!
EDIT 5: i am such a tense mess right now
EDIT 6: they are still fighting, why is father-in-law in rasputin version so strong, can’t he just break into pieces and go to hell
EDIT 7:
Shen Qingqiu said, half-sincerely, “My heart is not weak at all, but I’m broken-hearted that you’re doing this to my disciple. You release my disciple, I’ll release your nephew. How about that?”
SHIZUN IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST SHIZUN ALIVE. LOOK JUST HOW FREAKING COOL HE IS, TRYING TO BARGAIN WITH FATHER-IN-LAW WITH SUCH A CALM AND COLLECTED ATTITUDE, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
he said my disciple, guys i am freaking out. m Y d I s C i P l E.
EDIT 8: FUCK YOU ZHZUHZUHZUZZ
EDIT 9: HOW DARE YOU TOUCH LBH YOU LOW FILTY DEMON SHIT I AM GONNA CRASH YOU
EDIT 10:
While speaking, his five fingers subtly curled. Luo Binghe gave a stifled groan, fresh blood flowing from the corners of his eyes, but he still turned his gaze towards Shen Qingqiu with great difficulty. Clenching his teeth against the blood foaming from his mouth, he gritted out, “…Go… anywhere is fine… just don’t stay here!”
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG THIS
I AM SCREAMING I CAN’T OMG MY BEAUTIFUL LBH
EDIT 11: AS I SAID
SHIZUN IS SO SO SO SO SO SO ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY COOL I CAN BARELY STAND
EDIT 12:
Zhuzhi-Lang said, “It’s not that you grabbed the wrong person, Master Shen, it’s that I swapped the hand you grabbed.”
This was the last straw for Shen Qingqiu, and he smashed a fist into the stone door. “I wanted to be together with Luo Binghe in the first place!”
Zhuzhi-Lang started, then said, “Master Shen, weren’t you and he… already together long before?”
“…” With these people, it’s really hard to say!
AS I SAID
FUCK YOU ZHUZHUZHZUHZUZH
i feel like they are trying to fool me and i keep screaming “yesss! NO! OMG YES! WTF NO” can you all freaking stop!??!?!?! now lbh is with his father and i am dying inside
also, i wanted to be together with Luo Binghe in the first place, shizun are you trying to make up for all the missed moments you could have said something cute and romantic about lbh?? are you trying to kill me with this angst and you being honest while lbh is not there??? ARE YOU?
EDIT 13:
A pillar of magma thick enough to enclose four men shot towards the sky, instantly engulfing Tianlang-Jun in a raging blaze.
(i don’t even dare hope-)
But soon, he couldn’t laugh anymore. Luo Binghe staggered along close behind him, also rushing into the hall. One of his arms hung slack at his side like it had been completely broken, blood poured from his head without end, and one of his eyes wouldn’t open anymore.
(OMG BABE NO-)
EDIT 14:
Before, every time Luo Binghe caught Shen Qingqiu, he would fix a fierce and rigid glare on him, but this time he didnt even look. Seeing Shen Qingqiu’s gaze, he even avoided his eyes, subconsciously using his unbroken left hand to wipe away the bloodstains by his eyes.
PLS just let them escape in peace so that lbh can heal himself or shizun can help him, i’m suffering!
i think lbh can’t look at him because if he does, too many feelings will bubble up and he’ll crumble in front of him -and right now, more than ever, he needs to stay focused. ah, angst, i’m in so much pain-
EDIT 15:
He was just planning to open his mouth and ask about the situation when Luo Binghe rushed to get in his words first. “This body, are the spiritual veins working well?”
LBH CAN BARELY STAY UPRIGHT AND THE FIRST THING HE SAYS IS IF SHIZUN’S BODY FEELS ALRIGHT.
like, no, okay, it’s not like i’m dreaming of unicorns and flowers and hearts and pink stuff dancing all around them, i’m totally fine, pls, DON’T MIND ME DYING BECASUE THEY ARE TOO BEAUTIFUL
EDIT 16:
For Luo Binghe to have sustained it for several days, he didn’t know how much spiritual energy he had wasted on this meaningless endeavor, and he still dared to storm the Holy Mausoleum alone right afterward. Shen Qingqiu’s chest felt a bit stuffy, and he scrambled to find a topic of conversation with his thoughts in a scattered mess.
shizun is so touched, you thought well to this disciple of yours, can you see how much he loves you?! this chapter, though bittersweet and full of angst, was so powerfull and intense and important for their relationship, i’m so happy sdoihfoiwjfioej just GET THEM OUT OF THERE PLS
Just now, Tianlang-Jun seemed to have said that Luo Binghe “brought along these two strays.” Shen Qingqiu asked, “Who else did you bring?”
Luo Binghe finally gave him a glance and said, “I came alone.”
why do i think there is more to this than he is letting him know? *sighs*

I do like the headcanon that it was Shen Yuan's teaching and tips that inadvertently helped Luo Binghe get through the Endless Abyss faster. Accidentally fucking himself over in a way because he cares for Luo Binghe too much is just sooooo him.
I do think there are other elements that may have helped Luo Binghe through the Endless Abyss faster. When I was making that post on a way that the heavenly demon seals might work, based on the implications in the quotes I was taking down, I formed the headcanon that the Black Moon Rhinoceros-Python in PIDW may have only partially broken the seal on Luo Binghe's demon side, potentially denying him full access to his powers and causing him pain and damage, until he could reach the Xin Mo sword and use its dimension-slicing powers to remove the last remnants of the seal. Whereas in SVSSS, Mobei-Jun, with his own special Endless-Abyss-summoning abilities, apparently ripped the seals off of Luo Binghe immediately and potentially more cleanly.
(Arguably, a sudden removal could be an even worse shock, causing a clash between spiritual systems, and causing even more pain and damage until the Xin Mo sword could be used to soothe the effects. You can come up with fun consequences either way, PIDW or SVSSS, to get the angsty headcanons that you want to explore!)
Anyway, I was thinking about the idea that... maybe SVSSS Luo Binghe making it through the Endless Abyss faster doesn't necessarily mean he's more powerful...?
Like, if we're imagining that Shen Yuan's teachings allowed SVSSS Luo Binghe to perform something like a speedrun to the Xin Mo sword (which is extremely funny to contemplate), then through sheer experience (a couple more years to cultivate/develop in the hellscape grinding level), it's not unreasonable to imagine that PIDW Luo Binghe exiting the Endless Abyss may have been significantly more powerful or at least significantly more dangerous than SVSSS Luo Binghe exiting the Endless Abyss.
(Although, even if both Binghes were the same power level, based on personality differences and goals, then Mobei-Jun's first encounter with SVSSS Binghe would be extremely different to his first encounter with PIDW Binghe regardless.)
I am currently enjoying the idea of SVSSS Luo Binghe almost immediately encountering Mobei-Jun upon exiting the Endless Abyss, having a rematch of their battle at the Immortal Alliance Conference, and then Luo Binghe losing that fight.
OP power levels are so arbitrary. I don't think it's unreasonable that even pre-ascension Mobei-Jun could (after getting pretty beat up himself, maybe) kick a young, undeveloped heavenly demon's ass. Just because Binghe has the Xin Mo sword doesn't necessarily mean that he knows how to use it. Mobei-Jun is at least 20 years older than Binghe, with potentially a great deal more training and battle experience in the Demon Realm, and depending on how you imagine his abyss and ice powers, he's potentially capable of some extremely dangerous and dirty tricks to preserve his own life.
So, like, let's say that Mobei-Jun manages to pull ahead in this fight, disarms Luo Binghe, and then throws the Xin Mo sword through a portal back into the Endless Abyss because he has no interest in keeping such a cursed thing for himself. He could just kill the seething half-demon on the ground in front of him with three broken limbs, before the heavenly demon heals up and tries to kill him again, but Shang Qinghua (who has been here THE WHOLE TIME) (who has been having a VERY BAD TIME trying desperately to stay out of the line of fire) (who didn't want to be in the Demon Realm in the first place when he's still trying to keep his cover, but he needed something for the Sun-Moon Dew Mushroom and Mobei-Jun to help him get it) Shang Qinghua says that Mobei-Jun can't just kill this boy for some reason. Holy shit, do not kill him! DO NOT! (It might break the fucking world, shit, what the fuck, what is happening...!)
And listening to Shang Qinghua has saved Mobei-Jun's skin on a number of occasions, so that's it! Apparently, he can't just kill this boy. Admittedly, he is mildly impressed by the boy's tenacity, but, like, the boy is obviously suffering poor effects from the sword's curse, may or may not be possessed by the Elder Dream Demon, and desperately wants to kill him. He's a fixer-upper, for sure.
So, like... now what?
