Benny Strong. He not only can catch the big guy in full set, but also can just hold him like that without any problems. Very interesting why it's like that.

Evening sun was shining onto the beautiful Perennial Pass, illuminating with its orangish-pink light a row of majestic cherry trees that were filling the air with the sweet aroma of their blossoms. 

On this perfect evening Gordon and Benny were heading back to Gildegaran after dealing with a pack of genprey and an enraged Gendrom that was causing the ruckus in this little zone of peace. It was so peaceful in fact that even a pink rathian, who was the 'queen' of this little patch of land, never caused any troubles for anyone who wanted to pass by and was respectful. But instead of enjoying this perfect evening both of them were in deep discussion of something that was more important for them right now. 

"I don't think you would be a Seregios if you were a monstie. Seregios is agile and quick when you are strong but not that dexterous. " playfully said Benny while gesturing to the wyvern that was stomping beside Gordon, "Look at him. This fine specimen was everywhere while we were dealing with that pack when you slowly did your sidesteps and big swings. Even I am better suited for that role than you."

Gordon looked mildly offended by it. He knew that he built himself to be more strong to carry a big greatsword but he fully thought that his skills were on the same level as Benny's. 

"I don't remember if I ever saw you doing anything dexterous. That role usually was put on me." Benny continued.

"If you didn't see what i can do, it's not the argument that I can't do it." Gordon mumbled. "I think I'm no worse than you."

Benny stopped in his place. "You wanna compete with ME in Dexterity?" He began laughing. After a long laugh that almost turned into a cough Benny composed himself "Gordie, my sweet big boy, It's me who lived in the wild for a better half of a DECADE. Don't try me and just accept that you aren't as agile as me." 

Gordon felt like he was taunted by that reaction. He turned back to look at Benny only to see the short man being all red from the laugh that he had. 

Gordon needed to say one word that will turn this silly discussion into a small competition. 

"Bet?"

Benny instantly changed his face. He fully expected Gordon to be silent about the matter and just accept his loss. But this changed everything.

"Bet." He replied. 

Benny loved competing with Gordon about small things, especially when he knows that he is 100% better but Gordon's ego isn't allowing him to accept it. 

He looked around while putting away his hunting horn into the holder on his monstie's saddle. 

"What we will do. I can see two different trees where I spot a bitterbug on the high branch. Who can do it quicker wins. And because you are so going to lose, I'm letting you choose which one you'd be climbing."

Benny pointed onto two similar looking trees. Indeed Gordon spotted a few bitterbugs on both of them. 

While he was putting his weapon away and Benny looking for a pocket clock Gordon chose one of them. 

Small rider gave Gordon the clock and told him that he was ready to go first. 

Benny rushed atop of that tree without hesitation. His moves were honed to perfection. He quickly moved from one branch to another, skipping some of them in the process. Even the clunky armor of his wasn't an obstacle. Gordon didn't even begin to get amused as Benny was already down with a few bitterbugs in his hands.

That was quick. 

It did make Gordon worry when he looked at the clock. No way he would beat this time, but competition is a competition afterall. His ego wouldn't survive the blow of he would back up right now. 

Time has come for him to climb. As soon as Benny gave him the signal he began his ascent. It was harder than he thought. Big shoulder guards were desperately trying to get stuck on smaller branches and even spikes on his shoes, which Gordon thought were useful in his endeavor, were a complete nunsense. 

All things quickly turned against him. Gordon understood why Benny was skipping some branches when one of them broke under his foot with a loud crack. That sounds scary to the majority of the bugs that he was trying to catch. 

Gordon slowed down, he already understood that in the time that he got to this point Benny was already finished. Right now the big priority was to prove that he was a dexterous person and not fall down. 

Gordon carefully stretched out his hand forward to grab the bug. With some miracle he сaught it. Pweh. Half of the job is done, now he needs to get down. That should be easier because he already knew where to step. He slowly but surely began trying to get down. But this evening decided to do things it's way. 

With an audible and loud crack the thick branch that Gordon was holding on to snapped, making the big man lose his footing and fall backwards from that tree. Gordon was preparing for an impact from meeting the ground back first he closed his eyes and somewhat but something caught him. 

He opened his eyes only to see the scared face of Benny right beside him. After a couple seconds of letting the fear let go and both of them catching up to their breath Benny's face changed from worried to smug.

"Wouldya look at that. I caught a Seregios with my own hands,"Benny said loudly. "And it's a good specimen too. Interesting if The Guild let me keep him." 

"Well, at least i Caught that Bug." Gordon smiled shyly and lifted his arm to show that, indeed, the bug was still moving in his hands. He was shooketh from the experience, not because the smaller rider was quicker and more agile than him but because he Caught him and was holding on in his arms.

It gave Gordon time to finally notice how beautiful this evening is and how nicely Benny get's illuminated by the evening sun. Pink petals from the cherry blossoms were adding a very nice touch to the already perfect view of the smaller man's face. 

Benny continued to look incredibly smug while observing Gordon's face turn more red with every second of the tiny man holding him. 

Even his "If I let you go, will you behave like a good monstie and not try to bite my face off?" The joke couldn't break this moment too much.

Gordon just nodded and Benny carefully let him go and helped the man regain his footing.

After a few seconds the both began to laugh at how stupid and childish all this situation was. Gordon admitted how wrong he was and gushed about how it's so cool that Benny has such a high dexterity. Even Benny admitted that he is pleasantly surprised that Gordon, indeed, could do this in his full set nonetheless.

"So with this in mind, yes, you would be a Seregios." Said Benny after snatching a bitterbug from Gordon's hands, "A very clumsy one but still Seregios, HA!" 

Gordon didn't get that to bother him. He still was somewhat in the moment, just admiring his partner on the gorgeous evening. He was amused that Benny not only was able to do all of the shenanigans but also catch him and hold him steadily. That was something. Not a bad experience from any means. It was a pleasant amusement.

After a few minutes of looking for a small clock, boys packed bugs up and headed back to their destination.

The talk of Demon and Armor drugs got me wondering. Of all the standard issue consumables Hunters take out into the feild, what are the most and least pleasent to use? Excluding the good old ration and steak, those feel like easy awnsers.

Most pleasant? Sushifish. They're delicious and I'd happily down a cartful if they weren't both very fattening and also full of bones. If you chew them thoroughly enough or just know how best to get at the meat without hitting bone, you won't choke.

Least pleasant... is antidotes. Antidote herbs are just as bitter as bitterbugs... which I've also eaten to stave off the worst of monster venoms and poisons in a pinch. The best things for you taste the worst, and there's nothing much to do about it.

... Dust of Life also gets absolutely everywhere and I hate it, even if it helps to soothe aches and wounds. Even making the stuff is a pain. At least it smells nice, though.

bonus bonus! Unused concept art for a "Princess" Caspases design for Marinette - another type of Viceroy butterfly is the Queen variant, so this was based off its caterpillar stage. Would've been a fun play on words, but for plot reasons, Tom has Marinette looking as closely like Ladybug as he can manage.

Gathering because you ain’t just a hunter, pal

So you started the game and got through that long ass, though not as long as Fallout 4′s, intro and tutorial to the game. YAY! Bet you’re just itching to get started on the story or maybe get through it as fast as you can to get to the end game. Well, slow the fuck down, bitch. We’re going exploring and gathering some shit. Why? Because it’s important. We’re gonna cover a lot here, from gathering items, to recipes, to pets, fishing, making traps and so on.

So the first thing you’ll do when you get the chance to is go on an expedition, if you do this early enough you’ll only be able to explore the Ancient Forest, that’s okay. So open your map and spawn in at the South Camp in the forest. Since this will be your first time I need you to gather everything you can get your hands on. Everything! Yes, I realize there is a finite amount of items you can carry but that’s ok, just drop an item or better yet go back to camp, go into the tent and put all your items away. When you grab an item it’ll get marked on your map making it much easier to find when you want to find something very specific later on. So make your way across the map, explore every corner, go down every hill, crawl through every opening, climb every vine, jump from every ledge. This serves to discover every part of the map, gather monster clues, unlock investigations, find camp locations, mark down every item, environmental trap and so on. It’s also a lot easier if you just jog slowly so your scoutflies can mark things for you and so you can get a better feeling of the map. It’s a lovely walk enjoy it, unless you bump into a monster that’s quick to aggro (Rathalos, Pukei-Pukei, Anjanath) in that case

So you explored and found everything, what now? Now we’re gonna get specific. You’re at a low level and every bit helps because your rarity 1 armor and weapons suck ass! So you’re going to prioritize the following items:

*Might Seed

Adamant Seed

Blue Mushroom

Mandragora

Spider Web

Sleep Herb

Parashroom

Ivy

* As far as I can tell there are no Might Seeds in Ancient Forest. They’re found in the Wildspire Waste. That’s ok, that map is unlocked fairly fast.

Okay, so why these items in particular? Herbs make potions. When you mix honey with potions you get mega potions. You know what? Here’s a shitty visual of the items and what they make. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND SANE IN THIS WORLD PLEASE START CRAFTING AND CARRYING LIFEPOWDER! Lifepowder will heal you, your cat and other players that may be in trouble. Say your partner took one too many hits and now they are stunned that means they can’t move at all for a few seconds but on top of that they barely have any health. That’s when you use lifepowder, you heal them and yourself and you avoid an unnecessary cart. Lifepowder can really make a difference between a completed quest or a failed quest. You can only carry 3 at a time and at low levels I won’t expect any of you to carry the materials to make more on the fly. So say you and 3 other people in your party are carrying 3 that’s a total of 12 lifepowders that are available for when the shit hits the fan. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO VALID REASON NOT TO CARRY LIFEPOWDER WITH YOU. It’s easy to make and you find the materials as soon as you start the game and I gave you, right below, the recipe. 

By the way, when you see an herb or a mushroom or some honey with some bright sparkles emitting from it that means you’ll get twice the amount from that one.

So we talked about which items to gather and which to make. We’re gonna take a small pause to talk about the endemic life. By now I’m sure you noticed these super cute little critters running around the map, some look like rabbit ferrets and there are some pink birds and some bugs you can’t grab. Those become pets. Equip your net and catch them. There are some really rare pets that will net you a whopping 500 Research Points every time you catch one. Easiest one is the Prism Hercudrome. You can find 1 in the Ancient Forest and in Wildspire Waste but ONLY AT DAWN OR DUSK! Remember that! These are easy to catch as they won’t run away like a certain fluffy bird...

Eeeeeey 500 easy points and you can catch one every time you go into the map. So you can switch between the forest and wasteland. Speaking of the wasteland, that’s where you’ll find the Might Seed to make demon powder and demon juice.

Fishing!

I strongly suggest you get to fishing as fast as you can so that means that as you gather items you should also be fishing. Every time you catch certain fish you get one of their scales and these have different uses. Sushifish drop sushifish scales which cures bleeding, gives you fast recovery for a few seconds and heals 50 points of your health. I personally use these as healing items since they’re super fast and can be a life saver for when a monster is about to attack and I have very low health which cannot withstand an incoming attack. These saved my ass during AT Nergigante! There are other fishscales but I’ll cover them later.

Traps! And why you should be capturing instead of killing monsters!

So by now you got a good number of materials and made yourself some traps and are wondering what the heck these hecking things are for. So glad you asked!

Traps allow you to capture monsters and take them back to HQ so that the scholars can study them like aliens do with people minus the anal probing...I hope...There is a huge benefit to capturing them instead of killing them and that’s when you finish the quest and you captured that monster you get some extra materials for you to craft some armor or upgrade some weapons. Neat!

You’ll also open up arena quests to fight said captured monster and in the arena you can totally go ham and kill it and then dance over its corpse. Also it’s important to note that those arena quests will net you a red complete next to the optional quest list. If it’s a blue complete that means there are some quests missing and since there is no way to tell if it’s because you failed to catch a monsters instead of killing it your ass while have to repeat EVERY SINGLE OPTIONAL QUEST UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY COMPLETE IT! So unless you think that sounds like fun I strongly suggest you capture all the freaking monsters! By the way, you’ll also need to capture them again in High Rank because you’ll then get HR arena quests and LR and HR monsters are “different” so don’t slack on capturing them.

Why bother? Because once you have a red complete for Optionals Quests 1 - 8 and the optional Xeno’Jiiva and Zorah Magdaros quests you’ll unlock an optional quest called The White Winds of the New World. This quest will give you the much coveted Research Commission Ticket that will be used for some veeeeeeeeeeeeeery useful weapons, charms and even some armor sets. So to recap capture, do not kill!

The only exception to that are Elder Dragons. Those cannot be captured, only killed. Do not waste your traps on them! You can’t even hold them in place to go ham on them because they don’t even set off traps.

So how the heck do you capture monsters? Easy, ignore the tutorial the game gave you on capturing because it’s misleading as fuck. Here’s how: start the quest like normal, find the target monster and go ham on it. When the monster is near death it will retrieve to its nest to sleep or in Kulu-Ya-Ku’s case eat an egg. As it walks away it either limps and whimpers or flies away kinda clumsy like. There will also be a small white skull coming from the monster on your map so be watchful.

Once at it’s nest throw 2 tranq bombs close to it’s body, anywhere on its body, and then set down the shock or pitfall trap and presto you got yourself a captured monster!

Now, some people like to use traps to immobilize monsters so that’s why I said to throw the tranq bombs first and then set the trap. The more traps you use on a monster the faster it’ll escape. Plus, you never know what might happen so the monster is already tranqed and all you need to do to recover is just set the trap under it and tada! you’re done.

And there you go another wordy af guide to having a hell of an easier time in Monster Hunter World as a new player! I’ll do some more during the weekend.

So, yeah, I can imagine a purple Stra to be a thing; I mean, everything's possible in this damn world.

The only thing I am sure of is that, purple cub or not, Luna and I will love it and cherish it to the point of wrecking anything that wants to hurt it into pieces smaller than a bitterbug's eyes. And trust me I've never bothered to check whether those critters had eyes."
