Building on the favourite animal ask, another Very Important Question: favourite PREHISTORIC animal? And why? (I've always loved gorgonopsids and pterosaurs like anurognathus, but a new favourite is aquilolamma the eagle shark. They're just very cute).

I feel like my top favorites are pretty pedestrian, but I like prehistoric deer a lot!

Maybe I am missing something but I can’t figure out what this scene was about because we see Sarah going through Joels drawer for his watch and money. But then she finds his knife and she gets like idk fascinated by it (might be the right word) and this sort of soft music is playing while she is admiring? the knife but then Joel honks and yells cus they will be late and she snaps out of it.

And this scene always stayed with me because I can’t really figure out why it’s there like sure it could be for just aesthetic purposes or something cus it was a pretty scene in my opinion but I think it’s definitely more then that but what is my question like is it a metaphor for Joel in the future how he becomes brutal and aggressive ?

Is it a connection to Ellie because she has a similar knife and there are horses engraved in the blade (which I just noticed btw) ?

Is it sort of a future telling thing because later that day everything gose to shit and people get violent ?

Is it like a hint at season two or jackson ?

I am not sure about like the parts where it could be something violent because the scene is so peaceful in a way and the knife is so pretty and well kept and that goes away from like the usual way people would portray violence (I think idk).

Yea exactly, people like to think that paleolithic people solely did art in caves when it's just that that's where the art survives best. They weren't living in the caves, the caves were dark and dangerous [and that was part of what made them so important, in many painted caves, the art isn't in the entrance chamber that got any light, its all deeper where it would have been totally dark]

We do see examples of art in living areas! Shallow rock shelters carved with bas reliefs of horses, caves decorated with phallic shapes. The fact that those that survive are relief sculptures and engravings might indicate that paintings were also present, just worn away. Who knows, aurignacian people maybe really preferred wood as their canvas and none of it survives. Surely they drew in sand and with their fingers in clay.

I have issues with people saying that 'it's so dumb that people say it's all ritual shit, what if they were just drawing for fun!' Like. I'm sure they did draw for fun! But personally, I'd rather draw in the sand or on the rock shelter instead of risking the dark cave with c02 seepage that is also a favorite hibernation place for cave bears. They clearly were going to the cave for a reason other than Just to doodle and have fun

There are other caves that show signs of play. Of children being taught. Children lifted up on shoulders to mark the ceiling. Toddlers' hands being guided along. Etc etc etc. But there must have been some reason for people to go into the caves

I really wanna talk about this sort of parallel between the two scenes.

Now you might ask but how is this a parallel ?? well I am not very sure myself if it is one but in both scenes, both of them get a glimpse into what the other person's life is like or maybe into what their life could've been.

In the scene with Sarah we see her looking up at the military jets flying by. They are loud, aggressive and people often think of danger when they see military stuff. And they disturb the peaceful moment that Sarah was having before.

Which is what Ellies life is like. Her life is aggressive in a way and there is always some sort of danger almost always lurking somewhere near her, even tho she has peaceful moments they often get disturbed or ruined.

But we also got to see what Sarahs life could've been if she survived, no wait I correct myself, we did get to see what her life could've been because she was still alive to experience her peaceful life as she knew get disturbed by this aggressive and dangerous outbreak.

Now in the scene with Ellie we see her looking up at the skyscrapers, destroyed and decaying skyscrapers, but still skyscrapers nonetheless. These skyscrapers are big, something she has never seen before and peaceful somehow? because people often think of Nature taking over things, sort of reclaiming it, is peaceful.

Which is what Sarahs life was sort of like she had a big things ahead of her, probably a lot of stuff she has never seen before to see and her life was peaceful.

Again but we also got to see what Ellies life could've been if she was born just a few years before, again I correct myself, we will get to see it in some sort of way. Because in that moment that Joel but Ellie in that car her life became bigger, in that moment where Joel decided to take her with him she had places to see she hasn't seen before and Joel is one of the reasons she might live a peaceful life in Jackson.
