did your family make you do anything weird when you came of age? my grandpa had me kill the thanksgiving turkey when i was 13 and my mom gave me a tool box when i was 18 bc i was a woman finally
Sunday woodworking with my daughter to make a birdfeeder inspired by @fischotterkunst :
Mock up with suet holder with the placement of the ends and sides. The bandsaw was used to cut out the ends, and then the end pieces were used to set the jointer to make the sides match the angle of the roofline.
The feeder was assembled with an air powered brad nailer, much faster and cleaner than screws.
I am especially proud of how the roof panels came together. This reinforces that woodworking isn’t about getting exact measurements, it is about relative measurements. The peak of the end was used to set the jointer so that the roof panels would match up. The actual angle doesn’t matter, it is using the parts for the setup of the tool that does. (I really should have a picture of that and I may mock it up later for another post)
Here’s the block holder as it sits inside the feeder. It was too dark to get a photo of it hanging outside, so I’ll amend this post tomorrow.
I love watching nature documentaries, but so many about reptiles of any kind tend to be... trite and wrong. Imagine if documentaries would talk about mammals the way they talk about reptiles.
The kids invited over Otto & Desmond after school and discovered a new play gym in the neighborhood.
There wasn't enough room for Gerdie to play too, but she didn't mind, she decided to try to make friends with bunnies & birds. (the bunnies weren't home)
(also sorry but -- for the love of god stop eating them, they’re a very curious (to the point of often seeming tame, which they are not), highly intelligent and fast declining species, aside from the whole ‘cute appearance’ thing).
My friend: ooooh~ I’d love it if you did [fandoms] on a pixel grid that I could crotchet and we could sell as patterns
Me: I’m…not sure where the Fair Use and How to Get Licensing is.
Friend: [looks it up] …yeah it’d prolly be less complicated to just do original patterns and maybe then figure out fandom patterns we can do without getting into trouble, later.
Me: yeah. We can still do them for ourselves, but should prolly stick to original stuff.

Also me: [fights with tablet. Gets it installed. Art software programs are…a massive learning curve.]
Friend: sooo how’s it going? I was thinking you could make a bunch of traditional crotchet “stamps” people could mix&match.
Me: …sPACE. ✨ [translation: if I’m gonna get myself to push through the art software learning curve + patience required for Neat Pixel Art and File Formatting n shit…I need to do frikkin Tapestry Pictures vs Stamps for a bit to stay engaged and motivated.]
I am like.... trying to decide Shrike stuff... because that was what I managed to do today. here are some of my ideas for sprites and variants and stuff. I have definitely also like... kind of wanted to play up the like.... fucked up anti-monster military system in WTNC with it playing into the major character arcs with Shrike and August. (and everyone else involved but it’s my August/OC fanfic I can do what I want.
I can also give everyone as thick of thighs as I want and no one can ever stop me the end.
