Alexsandr: Alastor's character, both Canon and fanon, has revitalized my love for older Jazz, pop, and swing music.
It's quite refreshing, honestly. So I think I'll share some of my favorites.
La Vie En Rose, a classic that everyone knows.
What Is This Thing Called Love, one of my favourites from Billie Holiday.
Bei Mir Bist Du Schon is a splendid one.
Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive is one of my absolute favorites.
A favourite of not just mine but also a couple past pilots is Nat King Cole. L-O-V-E being probably the most favourite. He's done so many marvelous ones.
Sh-Boom by The Chords is magnificent.
Mmm absolutely anything and everything from Louis Armstrong. His trumpet playing is just as impressive as his vocals.
---
Here are a couple honorable mentions that are much more recent creations that still reflect the music from back then:
-Where Is Your Heart At by Jamie Cullum
-The Villian I Appear To Be by Connor Spiotto & Molly Pease

------------------------------
As threatened earlier, in my Jingle Hell post, here is another one of my ‘supercut’ compilations - in this case, the splicing together of segments from various interpretations of the Nutcracker Suite. But I think this one is much more listenable than Jingle Hell, if only because the Nutcracker has several different sections, all of which are much more musically interesting than endless repetitions of “DUH-duh-duh, DUH-duh-duh…” .
I want to particularly call your attention to the segments played by the Classical Jazz Quartet, which consisted of four top-notch jazz musicians: Kenny Barron on piano, Stefon Harris on vibes and marimba, Ron Carter on bass and Lewis Nash on drums. The arrangements and playing are very much in the style of the Modern Jazz Quartet and the whole album (Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, later reissued as The Classical Jazz Quartet Play Tchaikovsky) is quite lovely.
In addition, you get to hear several other jazz arrangements, plus new-age, acoustic guitar, klezmer, rock and even toy instruments, along with the uniquely irreverent approach by Spike Jones and His City Slickers.
The cover art was repurposed from some corporate promotional disc having nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas.
