Could you do 🌼 for Lacie and 🌾 for Abby? I love Lacie x Abby and not a lot of people make content for it.

🌼 Who are this characters friends and found family? How did they meet, how long have they been friends for, could they ever be something more than just friends? What do they look for in a friend or a romantic partner?

Well, a very important part of Lacie's found family is Shawn. I like to think that they just met by chance- they were living in the same area and happened to run into each other, and they became fast friends afterwards, especially since Shawn was new to New York, much younger than her, and needed some guidance. They'd been friends for about a decade at the time of their inking, and while they couldn't be romantic partners because Lacie is a lesbian, Lacie would probably describe him as being like her little brother. She'd also consider Bertrum to be a very close friend of hers.

There aren't a lot of people in Lacie's "found family" since she's pretty selective as to who she's more than casual friends with. She only ever intended on sleeping with Abby at first and didn't mean to fall in love with her, and Bertrum is the last person she ever expected to get close with. In both cases, the trust just kind of built up over time.

A younger version of Lacie Benton, recently hired at Archgate Circus, watches an equally young Bertrum Piedmont take care of a young inca dove that is hurt. They have only just begun to really get to know each other.

I read this story a while ago and finally got to draw this scene! It makes me happy both because I love the Step Right Up story ánd because I love pigeons :). Oh, and because I think Lacie and Bertrum are just awesome together.

I currently have a three Eurasian collared doves living and feeding behind my house, they are such goofballs! As an almost biologist, it makes me happy to learn more about different species. The inca dove species has such a beautiful feather pattern and coloration (unfortunately they don’t occur here), I think I’ll draw this tiny one as an adult sometime as well.

“Confound it!”

Lacie raised an eyebrow and lowered hir book, hir head automatically turning towards the sound of Bertrum’s voice. Upstairs. She set down the reading material, going up with a hand trailing the wall gently, paintings that Joey had done for them as a ‘get together’ present slipping past hir fingers.

“Fold, damn you!”

Lacie sighed and rolled hir eyes fondly, without too much pity in them. They were getting older, and things that used to be so easy and simple evaded their grasps. Lacie pulled out the emergency ladder as she finally reached the balcony and turned to look up at the roof.

“You stuck again, Bertie?” she calmly asked. Bertrum instantly turned away, hiding his arms behind his back, holding down two long shafts under them. She set up the ladder to slip up, folding hir arms on the edge of the roof, leaning before him casually. His face slowly darkened more and more, eyes darting about and eventually landing on the side of the house. “Oh, don’t even think about flyin’ off. Then you’ll come back here, or worse for your pride, knock on the door.”

He said nothing still as she climbed all the way up, backing away and holding the appendages back. Lacie stepped forward. He stepped back. She smiled softly, her brow arching, reaching out for his shoulder. He did not flinch away. They looked into each other’s eyes for a while, Bertrum’s arms clasped behind him and his lip starting to tremble.

“Lemme help you, Birdie,” Lacie quietly offered, placing hir other hand on the parallel shoulder. “You don’t gotta hide them from me. I think they’re wonderful.”

Silently, he let his arms fall to the side. The deep purple wings, tinted the same as his hair (they must have been golden before….) came to stand outwards, unable to settle them down. Lacie let hir hands trail over these secondary arms, knobbing fingers shifting through soft, hairlike feathers. She turned him to the side, and gently pressed on the joints that would allow them to tuck inwards, easing them into a curved rest around his body, just like a bird’s would. She repeated it on the other side.

“Thank you, Lacie,” he muttered. “I’m not used to being this age. I’d ask my sisters for advice; yet none of them are winged.”

“This is what I’m here for, Bertie,” she smiled, brushing hir fingers through those feathers. Lovely things they were, those wings. Strong and beautiful. Just like the man who owned them. “I’m here for you, and you alone. If you weren’t here, this big ol’ house would be too much for lil’ me.”

“You’d deserve something far more majestic,” Bertrum harrumphed, pulling hir close to kiss hir cheeks. “A palace, perhaps.”

“Yer too much,” she laughed. He kissed her properly. She noted with delight that they rose slightly in the air. “I gotta help you put your wings down, again.”

Bertrum, noticing that he started flying without realizing, sighed.

“Goddamnit.”

So for Halloween, what would the joey drew studio staff dress up as this year?

Joey Drew - Doesn't dresses up, but wears a Halloween themed suit instead. The suit's main colors are orange and black, he also has a bowtie. He's mainly around Henry intead of the actual party. For a while, he welcomes the guests, makes sure everything is fine and stuff like that, then goes away to spent time with Henry. They have the rest of the night for themselves at Joey's house. Plus, Joey doesn't lets Henry take the costume off since Henry suprisingly looks great in it.

Henry Stein- He actually didn't wanted to dress up, but Joey made him dress up. Soo, a Ringmaster (thanks to Joey's tastes). His costume also has details such as as golden vest and bowtie, keys and little Bendy heads and chains on belt. His costume also has chains on other parts of it. The main colors of the costume are red, golden and black. He doesn't joins the party or anything like that, he'll just spend time with Joey instead.

Sammy Lawrence - He doesn't really cares about Halloween and since Henry's taken by Joey for the rest of the night and he doesn't really wants to show up at the party to see Susie singing and bitching about him, he just stays at home and reads some books or listens to music. Maybe writes a few little ones if he's in the mood. Next day, he still acts like nothing happened, but still eats the candy Henry gave him.

Wally Franks - Tries to be creative for the costume and starts thinking about it for like 3 months before Halloween, but ends up with a cheap costume. Either a Skeleton or Ghost. Unlike the others, comes the job with the costume in the morning with Shawn. Joey wouldn't let them in at first, but Henry would make him let them in after a short time. Will go to Trick or Treat at night with Shawn too, and eat the candy he got next day with Shawn.

Susie Campbell - Dresses up as Alice Angel and gives small bags with candy in them to people she likes. (AKA everyone except Sammy and Joey are getting candy) At night, she spends time with Allison, they chat about some rumors around Studio and stuff like that. Their way to spend the night is pretty much same with Joey and Henry, except they might decide they want to have a little fun too and decide to sing at the party.

Shawn Flynn - Dresses up as a Ghost or Skeleton like Wally and goes to Trick or Treat with Wally. Also, gives little children plushies of their favorite character in the show while Trick or Treating. Probably tries to make Wally agree on pranking Sammy when he shows up at work the next day AND succsees. They probably spend the rest of the night thinking about the perfect prank.

Grant Cohen - He's living alone so he'll call family members to ask how are they doing. He doesn't wants to spend time at the party or anyone else. He thinks Halloween night as free time spend since Joey Drew Studio's business is keeping him awake all night. He'll read a few books, maybe watch a movie and go to sleep really early. He puts a small Pumpkin with candies in it on his doorstep tho.

Bertrum Piedmont - Doesn't really celebrates Halloween and doesn't shows up at the party. (it's JOEY DREW Studio's party lol) He still sells some Halloween decorations and calls family members too. Also, he doesn't shows up at the party, but still shows up at somewhere else. Probably no one can find him whole night. Also, doesn't dresses up too.

Allison Pendle - Dresses up as a Disney princess such as Aurora from Sleeping Beauty or Ariel form The Little Mermaid (Green dress). Shows up at the party with Susie and sings a few songs, calls a few family members and talks about her favorite things about the season with Susie. Also, the rumors in the Studio becouse a little chat about rumors between you and your gal bestie wouldn't hurt, would it?

Lacie Benton - Sticks with young employees like Wally and Shawn and tells them spooky stories. Maybe shows up at the party if they're in the mood too. They dress up as a witch with a purple costume with golden stars and glitters. Also, a witch hat and black boots becouse they're cool.

Thomas Connor - Shows up at the party only to make sure no one's hurt and pipes are working just fine. Doesn't dresses up and wears his casual work uniform. Chats with Norman about random stuff and they probably spend the rest of the night chatting. Doesn't calls anyone, even family members.

Norman Polk - Chats with Thomas for the night and shows up at the party. He was only planning to stay for a few minutes, but Thomas is there, so he'll stay longer to chat. Doesn't dresses up, but calls family members.
