Could you do 🌼 for Lacie and 🌾 for Abby? I love Lacie x Abby and not a lot of people make content for it.
🌼 Who are this characters friends and found family? How did they meet, how long have they been friends for, could they ever be something more than just friends? What do they look for in a friend or a romantic partner?
Well, a very important part of Lacie's found family is Shawn. I like to think that they just met by chance- they were living in the same area and happened to run into each other, and they became fast friends afterwards, especially since Shawn was new to New York, much younger than her, and needed some guidance. They'd been friends for about a decade at the time of their inking, and while they couldn't be romantic partners because Lacie is a lesbian, Lacie would probably describe him as being like her little brother. She'd also consider Bertrum to be a very close friend of hers.
There aren't a lot of people in Lacie's "found family" since she's pretty selective as to who she's more than casual friends with. She only ever intended on sleeping with Abby at first and didn't mean to fall in love with her, and Bertrum is the last person she ever expected to get close with. In both cases, the trust just kind of built up over time.
🌾 Describe your OC through the eyes of someone absolutely head-over-heels in love with them
“Abby is the most talented artist I know. I mean, she’s pretty much the only artist I know, but still. And she’s beautiful. And she’s fun but she knows how to make people respect her. It’s strange how we could grow up so differently but end up being so right for each other.”

How was it possible that a man with such an enormous voice could sound so gentle and soothing? - Lacie Benton - The dove and the lion
———
A younger version of Lacie Benton, recently hired at Archgate Circus, watches an equally young Bertrum Piedmont take care of a young inca dove that is hurt. They have only just begun to really get to know each other.
I read this story a while ago and finally got to draw this scene! It makes me happy both because I love the Step Right Up story ánd because I love pigeons :). Oh, and because I think Lacie and Bertrum are just awesome together.
I currently have a three Eurasian collared doves living and feeding behind my house, they are such goofballs! As an almost biologist, it makes me happy to learn more about different species. The inca dove species has such a beautiful feather pattern and coloration (unfortunately they don’t occur here), I think I’ll draw this tiny one as an adult sometime as well.

LaciexBertrum, 6
creaky but soft
Lacie knows what predicament Bertrum's in, and is glad to help.
ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/35654074
“Confound it!”
Lacie raised an eyebrow and lowered hir book, hir head automatically turning towards the sound of Bertrum’s voice. Upstairs. She set down the reading material, going up with a hand trailing the wall gently, paintings that Joey had done for them as a ‘get together’ present slipping past hir fingers.
“Fold, damn you!”
Lacie sighed and rolled hir eyes fondly, without too much pity in them. They were getting older, and things that used to be so easy and simple evaded their grasps. Lacie pulled out the emergency ladder as she finally reached the balcony and turned to look up at the roof.
“You stuck again, Bertie?” she calmly asked. Bertrum instantly turned away, hiding his arms behind his back, holding down two long shafts under them. She set up the ladder to slip up, folding hir arms on the edge of the roof, leaning before him casually. His face slowly darkened more and more, eyes darting about and eventually landing on the side of the house. “Oh, don’t even think about flyin’ off. Then you’ll come back here, or worse for your pride, knock on the door.”
He said nothing still as she climbed all the way up, backing away and holding the appendages back. Lacie stepped forward. He stepped back. She smiled softly, her brow arching, reaching out for his shoulder. He did not flinch away. They looked into each other’s eyes for a while, Bertrum’s arms clasped behind him and his lip starting to tremble.
“Lemme help you, Birdie,” Lacie quietly offered, placing hir other hand on the parallel shoulder. “You don’t gotta hide them from me. I think they’re wonderful.”
Silently, he let his arms fall to the side. The deep purple wings, tinted the same as his hair (they must have been golden before….) came to stand outwards, unable to settle them down. Lacie let hir hands trail over these secondary arms, knobbing fingers shifting through soft, hairlike feathers. She turned him to the side, and gently pressed on the joints that would allow them to tuck inwards, easing them into a curved rest around his body, just like a bird’s would. She repeated it on the other side.
“Thank you, Lacie,” he muttered. “I’m not used to being this age. I’d ask my sisters for advice; yet none of them are winged.”
“This is what I’m here for, Bertie,” she smiled, brushing hir fingers through those feathers. Lovely things they were, those wings. Strong and beautiful. Just like the man who owned them. “I’m here for you, and you alone. If you weren’t here, this big ol’ house would be too much for lil’ me.”
“You’d deserve something far more majestic,” Bertrum harrumphed, pulling hir close to kiss hir cheeks. “A palace, perhaps.”
“Yer too much,” she laughed. He kissed her properly. She noted with delight that they rose slightly in the air. “I gotta help you put your wings down, again.”
Bertrum, noticing that he started flying without realizing, sighed.
“Goddamnit.”

Bertrum x lacie
- Lacie mellows Bertrum out.
- By mellow, I mean slap him if he's being a dick
- Bertrum is L O U D
- Lacie however knows how to shut him up
- Feed him.
- It's the literal only way
- Unless he's arguing with someone
- Then hug him and accept your fate that this is your life now

Another request from @lovelykitten2017.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
It had been a long time since Lacie had escaped the studio. She had been one of the only people who had survived Joey’s attempt to turn everyone in the studio into monsters. And yet, in some ways, she felt she’d never escaped.
Almost every night, she found herself back in the studio, haunted by Joey and the employees she’d watched die. And Bertram...She always remembered Bertram. Some nights she’d dream about happy days she’d had with him. She liked those dreams. But more often than not, she dreamed of her failure to save him. She dreamed of watching him die right in front of her.
She woke up screaming his name. She was lucky her neighbors were understanding.
All that was in the past, though. She was an old woman of nearly 90 now, retired from a successful mechanic career. Her life was...ordinary now. Boring, one might say. She might have been satisfied with this, had it not been for the absence of Bertram. She still visited the park bench where he’d proposed to her every day, sitting under the tree and remembering better days. Remembering when he’d been there.
Even after so long, her heart still ached with longing for him. She wished she could see him again. Just one more time.
And, eventually, she did get her wish.
She’d been going about her usual routine when it had happened. She had come to the park bench as she always did, settling down. It was early spring, tiny blossoms beginning to unfurl on the branches above her. It was getting warmer, but there was still a chill in the air that required her to wear a sweater.
“The flowers are comin’ in real nice this year,” Lacie mused to herself. “You’d like ‘em, Bertie.” She let out a chuckle. “I’m sure you’d say they matched my eyes or somethin’ and try to put one in my hair.”
“That certainly does sound like something I would do.”
Lacie inhaled sharply at the voice that had replied. It was a voice she hadn’t heard outside of her dreams in decades.
To her shock and surprise, Bertram sat down beside her, looking exactly as he had the day Joey had killed him. She couldn’t help but stare, drinking in every detail. The grey around his temples that blended perfectly with his dark hair, his neatly kept mustache, his perfectly pressed suit, those ridiculously tiny glasses of his perched on his nose. It was all as she remembered. It took everything she had not to burst into tears.
“Well, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes?” She said, her voice cracking a bit.
She reached out to touch his face, expecting he would vanish as soon as she got close. But he didn’t. She cradled his face in her hands, rubbing a thumb over his cheek. His skin was weathered, yet still soft.
“I missed you so much,” she whispered.
“I’ve missed you too,” Bertram replied, resting his hands on hers. “I’m sorry I’ve left you alone for so long.” His hands were so warm. She could feel the callouses on his palms and the pads of his fingers.
“Why’re you apologizing?” Lacie laughed. “It’s not your fault Joey killed you.” Her voice almost broke at that memory.
“Still.” Bertram smiled softly, removing her hands from his face and holding them between his own. “I feel rather awful that you’ve been on your own for so long.”
“It’s fine,” Lacie assured him. “What matters is that you’re here now.”
She knew this wasn’t really him. Bertram was dead and gone. This was likely nothing more than a hallucination. She was probably dying right now. The thought didn’t scare her as much as she’d thought it would. At least then she wouldn’t be alone anymore.
“Lemme lean on you,” she said, pulling her hands out of his grasp.
“Oh, of course.” Bertram nodded, shifting a bit so that she could rest her head on his shoulder. His body was firm and solid.
They spent a moment or two in silence, watching the powder puff clouds float across the impossibly blue sky.
“I love you,” Lacie said.
“I love you too.” Bertram pressed a kiss to her head, taking her hand in his once more.
Lacie sighed in contentment, closing her eyes.
.
The child who found her thought she was simply sleeping. Her expression was so serene and calm. It was only upon coming closer that he noticed her deathly pallor and how cold her skin was.
She was buried in the plot she had picked out in a cemetery near her home, as specified in her will, right beside the empty coffin she had buried in place of her husband so many years ago.

question: how would your lacie respond to bertrum being a fine gentleman to her, not saying he isn't one all of the time, but how would your lacie react to bertrum pulling out chairs for her to sit down, opening doors for her, or putting his coat over a puddle for her to walk over so she doesn't get wet from the puddle?
Tumblr media
She’d be weirded out. Bertie, being all gentlemanly on a hard-headed woman like herself? Wouldn’t know how to handle it!
But it would make her slowly become softer to him.
