proof shameless had no gay people involved in writing or production ever:

- ian being like “you have to come out or you’re not free!!!” even though mickey would be endangering his and Ian’s life in doing so

- terry going from “guy who actively tries to kill his own son for being gay” to “harmless old grumpy dude” (re: Ian voluntarily going to him for advice on jail)

- the fact that there’s no gay sex scenes but there is sex scenes with gay characters and WOMEN

- the scene where Trevor introduces Ian to his friends. everyone involved in that should be in JAIL

- mayonnaise as lube.....

- having the show’s only gay regular character be overly sexualized (re: Ian being a dancer at a gay club when he was 17!!!!!)

- all of the gaybaiting in s10 marketing only for Ian and Mickey to have the least amount of screen time possible except for their wedding

- mickey finally stands up to terry and comes out, says he won’t be used as a tool to hurt ian anymore and terry flips out, beats mickey up and uses him as bait (didn’t this happen in shamel- okay. alright)

- anyway ian saves the day, proves himself a true hero on earth & him and mickey go live with Fiona on mount olympus

Because I’ve seen a lot of discussion about this recently and I was wondering what your take was. Of course , caution with answering this ask because any mention of caleb and trevor usually starts a swarm of opions

okay okay...... I will share my Opininse for u anon bc you asked so nicely

- fair warning I have not rewatched shameless in a while so do I really remember either of them in detail? Probably not.

- I think a lot of hate for Trevor in this fandom is just..... thinly veiled transphobia and im not here for that. I love Trevor as a concept like he could have been so good 😫😫😫 trans man actor played by a trans man? Very cool and sexy!! Showing gay and trans sex without fetishization as well as gay relationships that aren’t two cis gays? The bar is low but amazing yes !! Having a trans gay character who has a job helping at risk lgbt kids through shelters? oh my god fuck yeah babey !!!!!

- now for the actual show and of Trevor as a real character: v transparent attempt to replace Mickey but bc none of Ian’s boyfriends got enough development it kind of fell flat, I love the docks scene but um. Ian cheating on Trevor with Mickey was not the tea and it was like. Not addressed well. Also major transphobia in the show and bc I’m not trans (I’m mostly a girl..... gender isn’t that important to me but I don’t use the label trans) I don’t want to overstep and say that the show’s depiction of transphobia was more hurtful than helpful.

- I do like Trevor and I think him and Ian had some good moments together, I think ideally ian would realized he wasn’t over Mickey, him and Trevor would have parted ways as mutual friends, and Ian could have gotten a job at the shelter after leaving prison or smth.

- that one scene where Ian meets trevor’s friends was unequivocally terrible, a horrifying mix of college gsas, corporate pride/companies trying to monetize The Gays, and just a blatant hate crime. It made me homophobic, I am no longer gay and I want financial compensation.

- I ........do not think about Caleb. He was bad, I hate it here, why does shameless hate bi people. Literally the worst way to introduce a storyline of Ian exploring his sexuality. Cmon guys you ruined the sexy fireman trope
