Romanesque baptismal fonts from the province of Scania (Skåne), Sweden. These ancient stone basins have a talismanic power that usually only very old art has.

Mad that I just recently confirmed that Stephen’s bathtub DOES have a canonical backstory that invalidates all the research I’ve already done!

so glad i was raised catholic. i don't know what i would do with myself if i was raised protestant. try and appropriate catholic iconography and feel really bad about it probably.

Demons: We need to make an antichrist
Demons: Hey random religious virgin living in christianized medieval Britain we’re going to impregnate you with the antichrist. Do not under any circumstances baptize him.
The virgin: Hey a demon impregnated me please baptize this demon baby
Priest: Okay. *dunks baby Merlin in the baptismal font*
Baby Merlin: *no longer a demon*
Demons: No! Who could have seen this coming???

The Demna Baptistry - 6th century AD - in the Bardo Museum. This early Christian baptismal font is richly decorated with mosaics discovered in Demna. It is one of the finest Christian mosaics to have been found in Africa, and even throughout the Roman world.
