Yesterday our Strength and Beauty challenge closed with eighteen stories and works of art contributed! Below is a list of all of the challenge entries for Strength and Beauty. All links to stories go the Table of Contents, where you can view ratings, warnings, author's notes, and additional information about the story. If you like a piece, please consider letting the author or artist know by leaving a comment.
Artanis to Alatiriel: Earweniel's Homecoming by Kaylee Arafinwiel. Written for B2MEM 2017 and the March Strength and Beauty challenge: loosely linked tales of Galadriel's welcome in Alqualonde at the end of the Third Age. Idril remembers, as she walks on the shore of Alqualonde. Some time after Idril greeted Galadriel at the quay (see "Itarilde and Tani"), they, Elwing, and Nimloth get together for a good catch-up. They don't intend to run into Galadriel's uncles (and aunt) at the tavern...Lindar s the term the Teleri use for themselves. A Cloak of Magic by LadyBrooke. Thuringwethil was once an elf, and perhaps she will be again. The Elf at the Bottom of the Garden by Himring. Could Amras, son of Feanor, and Haldar, Haleth's brother, have met? I think they could--well, in my 'verse, at any rate. Another glimpse of the early history of the Haladin, also featuring a very young Haleth. Written both for the "Strength and Beauty" challenge at SWG and for the Ambarussa day of Feanorian Week (Tumblr), although it features only Amras. Feanor Never Planned to Fall in Love by Erulisse. I made an original artwork from charcoal and pastels for 2014's B2MeM. It was entitled "Feanor Never Planned to Fall in Love". Now, three years later, I have developed the story behind that picture. Here's the full effort - Feanor Never Planned to Fall in Love in illustration and text. A Garden of Plots by LadyBrooke. Nimloth is reborn, builds her own house, and starts a garden. The Golden Dancer by Lyra. Fëanor first sees Indis as she practices a traditional Vanyarin spear-dance. Fascination turns into life-long antipathy. Inspired by the B2MeM prompt, "when he first stood near her and recognized her dimly through the shadows, like one who, at the beginning of the month, either sees or thinks he has seen the moon rise through clouds." ~Vergil, The Aenid 'the hidden paths' by hennethgalad. Orodreth and Curufin in Nargothrond. In Arda Fair by Tyelca. Two brothers and their thoughts about Arda. In Wisdom by just_jenni. Melian wrestles with her feelings about Elu Thingol and laments some of her decisions concerning the Doom that befell them. A Light in the Heart by NelyafinweFeanorion. Written for Feanorian Week 2017. Day 1: Maedhros: A view of Maedhros, just after the rescue from Thangorodrim. Fingon's perpective. Molten Copper by Fernstrike. This is artwork and an accompanying drabble. It's for both the SWG March 2017 Challenge and for Fëanorian Week :-) Noldolantë – Maglor’s Lament by oshun. This is an micro-essay and a banner created as an extended introduction to a fic-rec list pulled together to celebrate Maglor’s Day on the Fëanorian Week celebration on Tumblr and initially inspired by the SWG Strength and Beauty March 2017 challenge. One day in Doriath: Strength and Beauty by hennethgalad. the relationship between Celeborn and Thranduil, the engagement of Celeborn and Galadriel. She walks in Beauty by lindahoyland. Varda has not forgotten Middle-earth. Still by LadyBrooke. Findekáno thinks Maitimo is beautiful, through life and into death, though not always how others think of it. 7 connected drabbles. Strength Bestows Beauty by oshun. SWG March 2017 Strength and Beauty Challenge, B2MeM 2017 (blue path/artwork/secondary colors/Tolkien quote), Fëanorian Week Tumblr 2017 - Day 1- Maedhros - > Adjusting/Coping, Beauty That Blow to Your Leg by LadyBrooke. Caranthir does not trust easily and does not love easily, but Haleth told him in a different world they would be perfect. 7 related drabbles. Things of Beauty by LadyBrooke. Thingol bargains for a necklace, the dwarves make a crown to scare dragons, and Narvi decides to make up for Celebrimbor's failings. Three linked drabbles.
A few housekeeping details ... I want to once again recognize and thank from the bottom of my heart Lyra, whose efforts on behalf of our new challenges--particularly in making the beautiful stamps that we use to reward creators and reviewers--has been such a huge help to me these past two months. The new challenge will be announced on the 15th, which is Saturday. I will also update stamp collections this weekend. If your collection is incorrect on Monday the 17th, please drop me a line at [email protected] (or leave me an ask here), and I will correct it. Late challenge entries are welcome but do not receive stamps. However, review challenges never expire! And Lyra made lots of beautiful reviewer stamps this month, just sayin' ... please go show our creators some love and, if you like their work, let them know!

Blue Ribbon Exhibition The Prince of Cardolan loves to acknowledge hard work and creativity.  Enter your finest works into the Blue Ribbon Exhibition as an exhibition challenger.  Challengers will compete against others for the title of Best of Cardolan in the categories they enter.  All entries for the Blue Ribbon Exhibition are due by noon on June 1, 2024.
Dappled Dapper Pony Picture Coloring Contest The Dappled Dapper Pony Picture Coloring Contest (D²P²C²) is a very basic coloring contest event. Everyone starts with the same base image, and colors and embellishes their pony in whatever way they choose.

Lost Treasures Quest  Part of Back to Middle-earth Month is revisiting works that are already in the world -- old favorites and new discoveries.  For the Lost Treasures Quests, you will be able to choose from leaving new commentary on works posted or written before 2020, making rec lists, working on WIPs (writing or art) that are at least a year old or more, or posting works currently unavailable publicly or at a new archive.

Additionally, B2MEM is an open event where ANYTHING you create during March counts!  Feel free to add works you start, add to, or finish in March to the gallery!  You can also host your own events -- let us know what you're up to, and we'll add your event to the list of festivities!

The Midway will open on February 24, 2024.
The Blue Ribbon Exhibition categories will be posted on March 1, 2024.  Entries are due by noon on June 1, 2024.  Winners will be announced at the Tarnin Austa event.

Back to Middle-Earth Month is back for its 18th edition!
This year, the Spring into Arda team is hosting 3 events during March to celebrate B2MEM.
Spies in the Shadows
Middle-Earth’s heroes need you! Do you have what it takes to become a top spy and support the forces of good in their battle against the darkness?
Want to find out?
Then join us this March for Spies in the Shadows!
This espionage extravaganza comes in two forms:
A Middle-earth Mystery is a team-based event where participants are assigned to spy guilds. During March you will be given missions to complete either together or individually to score points.
The best guild will be honoured at a very special event in April!
Don’t want to join a team, but still want to participate? Then check out The Rogue Spy!
From March 1 to April 15, you can once again score points by completing missions. The spy with the most points will be awarded!
Sign-ups for Spies in the Shadows are open!
You have until February 15 to sign up to A Middle-earth Mystery, and until March 31 for The Rogue Spy, though we recommend joining by February 25 to ensure communication goes smoothly.
Please note that Discord will be used for A Middle-earth Mystery.
More details will follow soon.
B2MEM prompt board
Don’t want to do anything fancy to celebrate Back-to-Middle-Earth Month? Never worry, the Spring into Arda team has you covered. We will also release a board with 100 prompts to celebrate all things Middle-earth in late February and invite you to post any works created for it to our AO3 collection, or to tag this blog when you post them on tumblr!

Spies in the Shadows: A Middle-earth Mystery
Tumblr media
A call has gone out to the spy guilds of Middle-earth! Will they rise to the challenge presented to them?
There’s honour at stake. Complete the missions and prove that you are the best spy guild of Middle-earth.
What is A Middle-earth Mystery?
This event is hosted by the Spring into Arda team (aka the people running Scribbles & Drabbles) during Back to Middle-Earth Month.
It is team-based, and the goal is to complete as many weekly missions as possible (mission example) and score points. The guilds with the most points will be honoured at the Middle-earth Masquerade.
Once sign-ups are complete, you will be allocated to a team (Guild), so don’t worry if you don’t have a team ready at hand! You’re still welcome to participate!
Schedule:
Sign-ups: January 5 to February 15
Event time: March 1 to 31 (complete missions and score points during this time)
Middle-Earth Masquerade: April 15 (time tbd)
IMPORTANT: If you want to participate in A Middle-earth Mystery, you must have Discord, which will be our main communication platform for all guild business.
(If that isn’t possible for you, check out The Rogue Spy (the solo version of this event).)
Questions, Comments, Concerns?
Send us an ask on tumblr, get in touch via the contact form on our website, or visit us on discord, and hopefully, we’ll see you in March!

Spies in the Shadows: The Rogue Spy
Tumblr media
They heard that the spy guilds had been called and wanted in on the glory. Now, they, too, will battle for the crown.
Who will succeed? Complete the missions, collect your points and show that you have what it takes to become the best of the best.
What is The Rogue Spy?
The Rogue Spy is the solo version of A Middle-earth Mystery, hosted by the Spring into Arda Team (aka the Scribbles & Drabbles people) for Back to Middle-Earth Month.
The premise is the same. You will be given missions (example mission found here) to complete and gain points. The rogue spies with the most points will also be honoured at the Middle-earth Masquerade.
This event is for all those who aren’t team players, find meeting new people scary, or don’t want to let anybody down in case something gets in the way, but still want to get in on the espionage extravaganza!
Schedule:
Sign-ups: January 5 to March 31 (though we recommend signing up by February 25, so you can participate in the full event)
Event: March 1 to April 14 (time to complete missions and score points!)
Middle-earth Masquerade: April 15 (time tbd)
Questions, Comments, Concerns?
Send us an ask on tumblr, get in touch via the contact form on our website, or visit us on discord, and hopefully, we’ll see you in March!
