Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation part 1

I finally got started on this DLC that has been sitting in my game list for a while. In this I get to play as a black woman named Aveline who is an Assassin, but also has a life outside it and it’s really different because she has different personas that each have different experiences and can do certain things. Plus, each mission seems to be really short. I did like 6 of them before I stopped. It is certainty different. In this gameplay, I was just learning the basics and tried to find out what happened to Aveline’s father’s shipments that had gone missing. On we go.

I started the game and it immediately starts as if it is an Abstergo experience where I get to play as Aveline de Grandpre in New Orleans.

Sequence 1

It started out when Aveline was a child and walking in the market with her mother, but she then gets distracted by a chicken and I had to chase after it.

She got into a new area of the town and was confronted by a stage where a slave was being auctioned off. I didn’t have my subtitles on yet, so I don’t remember what they said.

But Aveline runs off to try to find her mother but is lost. She finds another woman wearing the same clothes as her mom, but it’s a white lady. Yet when she starts backing off a man knocks her to the ground and the scene changes.

Aveline is now older and in the middle of a fight against slave masters. It was basically teaching me to fight.

After winning, one of the slave masters gets up and a snake comes from it’s mouth...

And then she wakes up. I guess Avaline was having a nightmare and an older woman came in to see if she was okay. The woman was Avaline’s stepmother, Madeleine, so I guess she adopted her...

Also turns out that her mother is not around. Maybe when she was separated from her mom in town and was knocked to the ground, she never saw her mother again? I have so many questions. Especially when Aveline suddenly pulled out an Assassin’s outfit and took off out the window. (S1/M1: Just a Nightmare - Complete)

I had to go to a pigeon coop and take on a mission to find some missing slaves. I had to put an my slave guise and investigate. I just had to find a dressing chamber to change.

But first I climbed a watchtower and officially started the game. It had a nice view of the city. (S1/M2: New Orleans by Night - Complete)

I found a dressing room and I guess there were 3 different personas that I could be. An Assassin, A Slave and a Lady. Each had their own way of doing things, like the Lady persona couldn’t climb things since she wears a dress. But for this mission I had to be in a Slave Persona.

I changed and read the rest of the mission details. There was supposed to be a delivery at a plantation and I could sneak in and just had to find a cart to sneak in.

I got tot he plantation and all I had to do was pick up a crate to pull off being a slave and I just got to walk in past the guards. That was easy. I could walk around the plantation, but the slave masters would still keep an eye on me. As long as I didn’t do anything suspicious.

Near the back I found some slaves that I could talk to and they were weary of me and didn’t want trouble. Aveline said that she was here to help because some slaves had been reported that they escaped but haven’t shown up at any safe house.

The slave said that his brothers and aunt had vanished and now his sister was gone. And they didn’t run, they were taken. His sister wouldn’t be able to survive on her own. Aveline said she will look around to see if they had left tracks.

I searched around while carrying a box to make sure I don’t catch attention and I found a barn that I had to open and inside was the missing sister of the slave. Aveline asked her if her master had tied her up but she said no, it was his son. But then guards came and I had to fight them. I then had to lead her away to safety. (S1/M3: A Slave in Trouble - Complete).

The scene changed again and now a new mission. Aveline was now dressed in a very nice dress. She was being confronted by her stepmother, Madeline, who was worried about her walking around on the street by herself if not only her person, but her reputation. Aveline said that she was a grown woman and could take care of herself. She then said that on her walk, she came across a slave woman who was hurt and needed her help because, she took her with her and was outside.

Madeleine was slightly angry because Aveline had sentenced the slave to persecution and could no longer go back. But Madeleine couldn’t turn her back, so she will help. She sent me to first go to town and get some traveling clothes for the slave.

So I went out to town. It turns out that I was another of Aveline’s persona’s, a Lady. In this persona, I couldn’t run without gaining suspicion and I couldn’t climb anything because I was wearing a dress. So I went straight to the clothing store and bought the traveling clothes and walked back, a worker following with my purchase.

Back at the mansion, I walked in on Madeline and her husband, Phillippe. He was concerned that Aveline wasn’t getting enough sleep. So I guess they are both caring parents. He went on to say that someone named Monsieur Blanc requested Aveline’s assistance at the warehouse. Madeleine said that with how much he asks for Aveline’s attention he would ask for her hand, but once that topic came up, Phillippe took his leave.

Once he was gone, Madeleine said that everything had been taken care of and her “friend” will be safe. She also said that if she had anymore problems, to come to her. So we now have Madeleine to help with any slaves, Aveline saves. (S1/M4: The Safe House - Complete)

During the loading screen, there was a memory note that explained that Aveline’s mother disappeared and she was raised by Madeleine. And they had the same views on slavery.

I started the new mission and went into a warehouse were I was supposed to meet Gerald Blanc. I went inside and found Phillippe talking to Gerald about some missing shipments and that his customers were not happy. Gerald said he will demand an investigation and will go talk to Maxent.

I then had to follow Gerald from a distance as he made his way down to the port. It was slightly difficult because I was in a dress and I couldn’t run without catching people’s attention and I had to hurry and not lose Gerald either, but I was able to make it to the port.

I then had to listen to Gerald and a man named Maxent talk. Maxent was saying that his cargo had been stolen from the ship and had no idea how to get it back. Whoever had done it had impersonated him and his signature. He would have better luck interrogating the captain of the ship. If his crew accepted bribes then he was probably as corrupt.

I was then free to move around and I went down to the ship where there were some guards. I had to bribe them and they moved aside to let me on.

I then spoke to the captain and Aveline started to charm him, complementing him and then asked what happened to the shipment. The Captain said that I didn’t have to worry about it and that it made it where it needed to be.

He then turned away to get some wine and Aveline spotted some maps on the table. So she took it and made a break for it. By the time he turned around, she was gone. (S1/M5: Taking Care of Business - Complete).

I had to then walk a short way away and start the next mission where I had to find the stolen cargo.

I had to use Eagle vision to track who had taken the cargo and try to follow where they went. When I found a cargo I had to inspect it and move on to the next one. I had to charm a guard as well to get him to move so I could find the last one and I also had to avoid some slave masters that would try to grab me.

Of course while I was walking around I had to pet the dog. Always pet the dog.

Once I found them all I went to talk to Maxent and told him what I found out. He thanked me for my help though he didn’t know how I did it. He just said to tell my father to expect a considerable discount for his trouble. (S1/M6: Father’s Troubles - Complete).

I went back to the warehouse and found Gerald and Phillipe talking. Gerald was telling him that the cargo will be delivered on time now that they had found it. When they saw me, Phillipe said that he will leave us alone to private business.

Once he was gone, Gerald said that he had looked over the documents Aveline had taken from the the Captain’s ship. Ooh. He knows that Aveline is an Assassin! So cool. He recognized the name of a known enemy - Rafael Joaquin de Ferrer. Whatever he was doing here, it was nothing good.

Gerald then told me that one of Agate’s contacts had told us that he would be attending a social soiree at the governor's mansion tonight. So Aveline will have to be prepared and find out what he was up to. Gerald then suggested that she familiarize herself with the mansion and find a secret way to enter using a disguise.

He also asked her to buy a house near the governor’s mansion that they could turn into a Dressing Chamber. Sounds like a plan.

So I headed out and found the boarded up building that Gerald told me about and I bought it and turned it into a Dressing Chamber. I went in and changed my disguise as a slave.

I then went around and started collecting nearby treasure chests and syncing to viewpoints. I did that for the rest of the time, I’ll to the rest of the mission later. This game is fun so far really fun even if it is moving a bit fast, but it is a DLC not a full game. Not much is happening yet, but we’ll get there. Until next time. Happy Gaming!

Just looked this up and HOLY SHIT! (It also comes with Liberation remastered!)

Hey guys if any of you reading this have only just gotten into Assassin’s Creed from Odyssey, please pick up Assassin’s Creed III and fall in love with Ratonhnhake:ton! Seriously though, AC:3 was the first AC game I played and it’s hard to say it’s not still my favourite. Though Odyssey is indeed neck in neck, AC:3 is the only AAA game I’ve ever played with a native protagonist, and I love him, and for that reason it’s extra special. :P Aveline de Grandpre from Liberation is some damn awesome, too!

yells: aveline de grandpre from assassin's creed liberation (2012) is the first playable female assassin like it doesn't matter it's on the vita (i mean it also got ported to all consoles but w/e) she is still the first playable female assassin and you know what, you know what, she got an entire game to herself, not 25% of the game, not 3 missions, not a side scroller and not one of two playable protagonists. No, people had to actually play her to play the game and they had no choice but to play her. So don't forget that, dont go disrespecting and forgetting about the first playable female assassin

As you can see, there's a lot of characters here, with a good number of them ten years or older and some even 20+ years. That doesn't even get to customizable "blank slate" characters from games like Fallout, Saints Row, or Elder Scrolls where you can make them as sexy or modest as you want. And of course, this is by no means a complete list; I like to think I know a lot about video games, but obviously I don't know about literally every game in existence. Pretty sure I got all the dates right, but if I didn't, feel free to correct.

You know what? Looking at this list makes me realize how little Tumblr talks about Resident Evil and Fatal Frame, two horror game series that have more than their fair share of non-sexualized female protagonists. In fact, a lot of horror games have them. And RE is a very well known and influential series, so you can't exactly pull the "it's just a cult classic" excuse on that one, as well as for Silent Hill 3. It just seems like whenever Tumblr talks about female characters in horror games, they always make it seem like they're always Ashley-esque damsels, when that couldn't be further from the truth. What's up with that?

Anyways, I could also go on and on about awesome non-sexualized non-protagonist female characters like The Boss, Brigid Tenenbaum, Elanor Lamb, almost all the gals from Overwatch, Chun-Li, Rosalind Lutece, Liara T'soni, Yuna (yes, I know she's sexualized in X-2, but I still love her to death even though I prefer her X characterization as I related to her more in that one), Celes, Zelda, Billie Lurk, and much more, but I'd probably be here forever if I did that. @danguy96, @unhappy-opinions, @takashi0, @vikinglumberjack, I hope I'm not being a bother, but I don't suppose you could spread this around since you're all mutual that spread my original post as well.

Beyond Lara Croft: 30 absolutely fascinating female tournament characters- part 1

From mad researchers to stealthy bravoes, we celebrate the video game women who get situations done

Over the years, there has been no shortage of articles about the best female characters in video games. The difficulty is, what theyve usually represent is the sexiest female attributes in video games, which has drawn for some very repetition and occasionally rather creepy-crawly reading.

For this alternative pick, three women recreations writers have chosen 30 interesting and complex samples, who have more to offering than either looking good in an armored bikini or fulfilling the strong female reputation archetype. And as Tomb Raiders Lara Croft has predominated every talk about women around games for the last 20 times, shes been respectfully jettisoned more.

There will, of course, be other omissions, but our aim is to generate dialogue and get readers to propose their own favourites. Who have we missed? Who has inspired you? We want to know.

Anyway, here we go with part one. Oh, and spoilers. Obviously.

Midna( The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, 2006 )

Twilight Princess is Midnas story. Yes, Link is a necessary component, but its truly all about this insolent gremlin, whose creepy gibberish usage( actually scrambled English words voiced by Japanese performer Akiko Kmoto) and desperation to save her macrocosm make her one of the most memorable comrades in any Zelda game. The conclusion to her legend will leave many devotees with a single dramatic weeping wheeling down their cheek.

Wynne( Dragon Age: Beginnings, 2009 )

Wynne is a very rare example of an elderly lady who is neither a powerless nurturing grandmothers nor a scary wizened old-time crone. She is older, knowing and compassionate, but “shes been” refuses to stand idly by although the world crumbles around her. Behind the gumption lies a past that involves illicit fantasy and a child taken away from her at birth. She also has an in depth knowledge of fine ales. Would make a fascinating addition to being able to any dinner party guest list.

Sun goddess, primal father and parentage of all that is good, Amaterasu( or Ammy to her friends) is an unforgettable booster. Taking the form of a wolf, she reveals her personality through a variety of lupine looks, tilted heading, wagging posterior, returning her heading away in dislike. Despite being a lady, when she acts the move Golden Fury, she urinates with her leg conjured, a mode more commonly associated with male hounds. Amaterasu then: cracking gender norms since 2006.

An inquisitive photojournalist, Jade is competent, courageous and driven by a desire to help those around her. Through the long process of designing the specific characteristics( if you look at the photographs on the ceiling of Jades room you will see they evidence her in the early development stages ), the games chairman Michel Ancel was determined to create a rounded hero. When we are beginning[ Beyond Good and Evil] the first thing we enunciated was, if such projects is different its because its a female attribute who is driving the storey, he said. Shes not like other reputations who look like girls but act like guys … Most women around competitions are cliches.

Ada Wong( Resident Evil series, 1996 – )

A mysterious snoop working for an unknown busines, Ada Wong appears at random levels throughout the survival fright escapade, sometimes helping the exponent but always seeming out for her own interests first. Highly smart and often numerous steps ahead of everyone else, she is never short of a sarcastic remark at the expense of slower characters. Although she officially first shall be published in Resident Evil 2, eagle-eyed participates will notice that Ada is mentioned in the Researchers Letter file in the original recreation and her reputation is the password to a crucial computer terminal. From the very beginning she has lurked in the backdrop of this serial, with her own amusing agenda.

Bonnie MacFarlane( Red Dead Redemption, 2010 )

A rancher trying to hold their own families business together in a predominantly male situation, Bonnie is tough but attending, helping the booster John Marston on a number of opportunities. If you want to know how hard their own lives been, going to see Coots Chapel where youll find the tombs of her five friends. The headstone for one of them speaks: Never milk a bullshit. Wise terms we can all live by.

Tetra( The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, 2002; Phantom Hourglass, 2007 )

Leader of a gang of raiders, despite her young age, Tetra challenges respect and gets it. There are numerous ideologies about the inspiration behind her call. It could allude to the tropical fish of the same name; it could be a tongue-in-cheek including references to terra, the Latin word for district, or perhaps its short for tetrahedron, in reference to the famous Triforce. Whatever it makes, with crossed forearms and a winking, she cuts a sassy figure.
