AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 10
Wednesday, April 17, 2024
“In many ways, diagnosis saved my life. And it’s no secret that disabled people need diagnosis in order to access potentially life-saving resources. But we should be working to undermine a system which withholds and gatekeeps resources from those who need them, as well as undermining the neoliberal-esque ideologies which don’t necessarily consider the health of the population to be much of a priority. I was always going to seek a diagnosis because I know how nesessary and validating it can be, but my goal is a world where that doesn’t need to be the case.”
– Ember Green, Misinfo, Diagnosis & Autism Advocacy ft. @YoSamdySam

Autistic April Day 27:Self Care
I usually practice self care by allowing myself to rest sometimes when I am feeling burnt out. I usually play Animal crossing or watch videos on my phone.
Sometimes I watch cartoons on TV. I remember once I was in a bad mood and I watched the Simpsons non shop and that helped me feel alot more better. Another time I was having a Meltdown and my brother put Bluey on the TV for me and that took me out of my Meltdown. I feel like cartoons are more easier to watch when I am not feeling to well because they are more visually stimulating.
The other day I bought some powder that can go into bath water and turn into slime. Bathing in slime sounds nice so next time I am having a bad day I will use it.
Image Descriptions:
1: This is a photo I took of the box that has the powder in it to make the slime. The box is small and rectangular. It has text on it that is in various colours and sizes. The text says "gelli baff turns water into goo and back again. New colour changing crazy oranges to bizarre green. Bathe in magic goo!" There is a cartoon picture of a white boy with brown hair on the box. He has his arms in the air like he's cheering. He has a white towel wrapped around his waist. Infront of him is a white bath tub with orange and green slime in it.
2: There are a list of prompts for each day of the month for Autistic April. The top and bottom of the image is light purple and the middle part of the image is white with black text on it. The black text says "Autistic April 2024 Prompts: 1: Special interests 2: How you found out you were Autistic 3: your favourite stim 4: alternative forms of communication 5: your favourite fidget toys 6: textures you hate 7: safe foods 8: other disabilities you have 9: LBGTQI+ 10: childhood special interests11: comfort items 12: your favourite Autistic celebrities or characters13: unmasking 14: sensory aids 15: misdiagnosis 16: Autism friendly places 17: Disability support you have received 18: animals 19: favourite thing about being Autistic 20: echolalia 21: idenity first or Person first language 22: the spoon theory
23: colours that represent Autism (not blue) 24: Autistic owned small businesses 25: meltdowns and/or shutdowns 26: Your clothing prefences 27: Self care 28: Relatable Autism memes 29: Accessibility 30: routines" There is an infinity symbol that is half red and half gold on the top right corner of the white section. End Description.

Just to let everyone know please do not support that Organization. Autism speaks about profit not for the people at all ! Since it is autism awareness month I think it’s important to spread awareness about that organization that doesn’t really do anything for people at all . #autism #dontsupportthem #autismacceptance

Navigating Autism Acceptance Month and Autism Myths
With autism awareness/acceptance month almost here, we updated our piece on “Navigating Autism Acceptance Month and Autism Myths”. We explain how to be a better ally during this month that many autistic people feel we have to hide away to avoid the painful misinformation.

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH QUOTE 12
Wednesday, April 17, 2024
“You hear as autistics we make poor eye contact, we have difficulty socialising, which are both very pathologising ways of describing something that is inherently neutral. You could completely rewrite the neurotypical experience to be just as pathologised, if you wanted to. … ‘I’ve discovered this new condition – sorry, disorder – called “Neurotypical Spectrum Disorder”, and people who are suffering or afflicted with this disorder often have poor attention to detail. They might have an obsession with meaningless small talk, social status, and ritualistic exchange or social grooming. They may demonstrate a lack of interest in exploring their favourite topics deeply. They will take many activities at once, aka “multitasking”, at the expense of all of them. They have a linear thought process and inability to think outside of the box on a daily basis.'”
– Samantha Stein, Autistic traits are HUMAN traits: depathologising the autistic
