I know many people think Lestat woke up when louis geart stopped beating but that wasn’t confirmed right? Cuz how would he know that?
Okay, so...
This is one of those things that is "in-between the lines", where many things between Louis and Lestat are. Lestat tells the reader that they must read between the lines in TVL, so that is something to be kept in mind as intentional.
There are a few things that must be considered here, imho:
In "Blackwood Farm" Lestat tells Quinn that the "angels" took his soul with them:
"They left my body there for my friends to watch over," he explained, and for the first time since I'd seen him, he looked troubled, indecisive, even faintly confused. "But my spirit they took with them," he went on. "And in a realm as palpable as this very room they set me down to do their bidding, always threatening to snatch back this right eye, to take it forever if I didn't do what they bid me to do." [...] "I don't even know which of my bodies was the true one — the body that lay on the floor of the chapel of St. Elizabeth's, or the body that roamed with the so-called angels. I was an unwilling trafficker in knowledge and illusions."
Now... Lestat is at the mercy of these "angels" in spiritual realms for years. Years.
He wakes once from a more dreamlike state (as the unpublished book details) to help Armand and the others hunt down the riff raff in New Orleans.
But that is not the same state he is afterwards, because there he was commenting on what was going on around him... and later in Merrick, David notes that Lestat's soul does not seem to actually be there.
"Once again, I had the distinct impression that his soul was not in his body, not in the way that we believed it to be."
This later state is what Lestat is telling us of in "Blackwood Farm."
Now, David sits down and warns Lestat that Louis will attempt suicide.
Louis sits down to say goodbye to Lestat.
Lestat does not wake from neither plea nor goodbye.
So what does wake him?
It could not have been an outward change, because he was alone at St. Elizabeth's when Louis put himself into his coven in the courtyard of Rue Royale.
It could not have been David, who was also at Rue Royale, nor could it have been Merrick.
The show has picked up on what Louis said about their heartbeats, and elevated it, and I do think it is important.
"[...]the drum was my heart, and the second drum had been his."
Tumblr media
Louis notes in the book that even after the turning he hears Lestat's heart:
"His heart I still heard like the beating of a drum."
(For vampires, their hearts also sync up with the heartbeats of their victims when they feed, but then that victim's heart stops, of course.)
In "Prince Lestat" Lestat makes note that he also recognizes vampires by heartbeat, or at least certain ones.
Now, in "Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis", we get to Louis' account of the Merrick event, which is an important aspect of it all. Because he narrows it down:
"But the etheric body, the Amel body, was still in you,” said Fareed. “It had to be or you couldn’t have been revived.” “That’s true,” Louis said. “It was there inside me and it would have remained there until the ashes were scattered. It would have remained suspended, waiting, waiting for how long we don’t know. Remember the old admonition from Magnus, Lestat? Scatter the ashes? Well, no one scattered my ashes and I was brought back—by your blood, and David’s blood, and Merrick’s blood too." [...] “My heart had stopped,” said Louis. “There was no blood pumping in me. All circulation had stopped when my heart stopped. That is how I was dead.”
I was speechless. Then slowly it dawned on me. It came back to me what Kapetria had said...something about the invisible tentacles—or the cord—being the only part of us that was not filled with blood.
And here it all comes together, imho.
The cord. The heartbeat. The heart that stopped.
Tumblr media
"We are joined by a cord, a cord you cannot see, but it is real."
Louis and Lestat "share a heart", they hear each other's heartbeat. They are also joined by a cord, not just then when the events in PLotRoA are reached, but also because Louis is Lestat's fledgling, and Amel's "tendrils" reached/were given from Lestat in/to Louis.
When Louis' heart stopped that tendril of the spirit Amel snapped.
Lestat, in the spiritual realm at the time, must have been able to feel it.
When Louis' heartbeat stopped the cord snapped.
And Lestat immediately woke up.
(Since they already introduced the cord... I'm quite sure that will be the same in the show if and when they go there.)

"The Vampire Chronicles is a series of gothic vampire novels and a media franchise, created by American writer Anne Rice, that revolves around the fictional character Lestat de Lioncourt, a French nobleman turned into a vampire in the 18th century." - Wikipedia
Note: Would highly recommend reading in order. First 3 books are great, but do not think you need to read all 13. I explain more at the end.
Tumblr media
Interview with a Vampire (1976) Based on a short story Rice wrote around 1968, the novel centers on vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, who tells the story of his life to a reporter.
Good Reads || My Rating: 5/5
The Vampire Lestat (1985) Lestat. The vampire hero of Anne Rice's enthralling new novel is a creature of the darkest and richest imagination. Once an aristocrat in the heady days of pre-revolutionary France, now a rock star in the demonic, shimmering 1980s, he rushes through the centuries in search of others like him, seeking answers to the mystery of his eternal, terrifying existence. His is a mesmerizing story --- passionate, complex, and thrilling.
Good Reads || My Rating: 5/5 (personal favorite)
The Queen of the Damned (1988) The rock star Vampire Lestat prepares for a concert in San Francisco, unaware that hundreds of vampires will be among the fans that night and that they are committed to destroying him for risking exposing them all. The sleep of a group of men and women, vampires and mortals, around the world is disturbed by a mysterious dream of red-haired twins who suffer an unspeakable tragedy. The dreamers, as if pulled, move toward each other, the nightmare becoming clearer the closer they get. Some die on the way, some live to face they terrifying fate their pilgrimage is building to. Lestat's journey to a cavern deep beneath a Greek Island on his quest for the origins of the vampire race awakened Akasha, Queen of the Damned and mother of all vampires, from her 6,000 year sleep. Awake and angry, Akasha plans to save mankind from itself by elevating herself and her chosen son/lover to the level of the gods. As these three threads wind seamlessly together, the origins and culture of vampires are revealed, as is the length and breadth of their effect on the mortal world. The threads are brought together in the twentieth century when the fate of the living and the living dead is rewritten.
Good Reads || My Rating: 5/5
The Tale of the Body Thief (1992) For centuries, Lestat—vampire-hero, enchanter, seducer of mortals—has been a courted prince in the dark and flourishing universe of the living dead. Now he is alone. And in his overwhelming need to destroy his doubts and his loneliness, Lestat embarks on the most dangerous enterprise he has undertaken in all the years of his haunted existence.
Good Reads || My Rating: 4/5
Memnoch the Devil (1995) In the fifth Vampire Chronicle, Lestat is searching for Dora, the beautiful and charismatic mortal daughter of a drug lord. Dora has moved Lestat like no other mortal ever has, and he cannot get her out of his visions. At the same time, he is increasingly aware that the Devil knows who he is and wants something from him. While torn betwen his vampire world and his passion for Dora, Lestat is sucked in by Memnoch, who claims to be the Devil himself. Memnoch presents Lestat with unimagined opportunities: to witness creation, to visit purgatory, to be treated like a prophet. Lestat faces a choice between the Devil or God. Whom does he believe in? Who does he serve? What are the element of religious belief? Lestat finds himself caught in a whirlpool of the ultimate choice.
Good Reads || My Rating: 3.5/5
The Vampire Armond (1998) Now, we go with Armand across the centuries to the Kiev Rus of his boyhood - a ruined city under Mongol dominion - and to ancient Constantinople, where Tartar raiders sell him into slavery. And in a magnificent palazzo in the Venice of the Renaissance we see him emotionally and intellectually in thrall to the great vampire Marius, who masquerades among humankind as a mysterious, reclusive painter and who will bestow upon Armand the gift of vampiric blood. As the novel races to its climax, moving through scenes of luxury and elegance, of ambush, fire, and devil worship to nineteenth-century Paris and today's New Orleans, we see its eternally vulnerable and romantic hero forced to choose between his twilight immortality and the salvation of his immortal soul.
Good Reads || My Rating: 4/5
Merrick (2000) We again meet Louis, Lestat, and David. They are followed by the beautiful witch Merrick Mayfair, an offshoot of the Mayfair clan, with Julien Mayfair as one of her ancestors. She knew David when he was a mortal man working as a member of the Talamasca and it is through David that Louis seeks Merrick's help in resurrecting the spirit of Claudia.
Good Reads || My Rating: 2/5
Blood and Gold (2001) Here is the gorgeous and sinister story of Marius, patrician by birth, scholar by choice, one of the oldest vampires of them all, which sweeps from his genesis in ancient Rome, in the time of the Emperor Augustus, to his meeting in the present day with a creature of snow and ice. Thorne is a Northern vampire in search of Maharet, his 'maker', the ancient Egyptian vampire queen who holds him and others in thrall with chains made of her red hair, 'bound with steel and with her blood and gold'. When the Visigoths sack his city, Marius is there; with the resurgence of the glory that was Rome, he is there, still searching for his lost love Pandora, but bewitched in turn by Botticelli, the Renaissance beauty Bianca, with her sordid secrets, and the boy he calls Amadeo (otherwise known as the Vampire Armand). Criss-crossing through the stories of other vampires from Rice's glorious Pantheon of the undead, haunted by Pandora and by his alter ego Mael, tracked by the Talamasca, the tale of Marius, the self-styled guardian of 'those who must be kept' is the most wondrous and mind-blowing of them all.
Good Reads || My Rating: 3/5
Blackwood Farm (2002) Lestat is back, saviour and demon, presiding over a gothic story of family greed and hatred through generations, a terrifying drama of blood lust and betrayal, possession and matricide. Blackwood Farm with its grand Southern mansion, set among dark cypress swamps in Louisiana, harbours terrible blood-stained secrets and family ghosts. Heir to them all is Quinn Blackwood, young, rash and beautiful, himself a 'bloodhunter' whom Lestat takes under his wing. But Quinn is in thrall not only to the past and his own appetites but, even more dangerously, to a companion spirit, a 'goblin' succubus who could destroy him and others. Only the unearthly power of Lestat combined with the earthly powers of the Mayfair clan could hope to save Quinn from himself and his ghosts, or to rescue the doomed girl Quinn loves from her own mortality.
Good Reads || My Rating: 2/5
Blood Canticle (2003) Lestat is back with a vengeance and in thrall to Rowan Mayfair. Both demon and angel, he is drawn to kill but tempted by goodness as he moves among the pantheon of Anne Rice's unforgettable characters. Julien Mayfair, his tormentor; Rowan, witch and neurosurgeon, who attracts spirits to herself, casts spells on others and finds herself dangerously drawn to Lestat; Patsy, country and western singer, who was killed by Quinn Blackwood and dumped in a swamp; Ash Templeton, a 5,000 year old Taltos whose genes live on in the Mayfairs. Now, Lestat fights to save Patsy's ghost from the dark realms of the Earthbound, to uncover the mystery of the Taltos and to decide the fate of Rowan Mayfair.
Good Reads || My Rating: 1/5 (least favorite)
Prince Lestat (2014) The vampire world is in crisis – their kind have been proliferating out of control and, thanks to technologies undreamed of in previous centuries, they can communicate as never before. Roused from their earth-bound slumber, ancient ones are in thrall to the Voice: which commands that they burn fledgling vampires in cities from Paris to Mumbai, Hong Kong to Kyoto and San Francisco. Immolation, huge massacres, have commenced all over the world. Who – or what – is the Voice? What does it desire, and why? There is only one vampire, only one blood drinker, truly known to the entire world of the Undead. Will the dazzling hero-wanderer, the dangerous rebel-outlaw Lestat heed the call to unite the Children of Darkness as they face this new twilight?
Good Reads || My Rating: 2.5/5
Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis (2016) The vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, hero, leader, inspirer, irresistible force, irrepressible spirit, battling (and ultimately reconciling with) a strange otherworldly form that has somehow taken possession of Lestat's undead body and soul. This ancient and mysterious power and unearthly spirit of vampire lore has all the force, history, and insidious reach of the unknowable Universe.
Good Reads || My Rating: 1/5 (this one is also pretty bad)
Blood Communion (2018) Lestat takes us from his ancestral castle in the snow-covered mountains of France to the verdant wilds of lush Louisiana, with its lingering fragrances of magnolias and night jasmine; from the far reaches of the Pacific’s untouched islands to the 18th-century city of St. Petersburg and the court of the Empress Catherine. He speaks of his fierce battle of wits and words with the mysterious Rhoshamandes, proud Child of the Millennia, reviled outcast for his senseless slaughter of the legendary ancient vampire Maharet, avowed enemy of Queen Akasha, who refuses to live in harmony at court and who threatens all Lestat has dreamt of....
Good Reads || My Rating: 2/5

Overall, my opinion of the series is that it went on for far too long. After Queen of the Damned, it should have ended, but instead we got 10 other books with varying levels of rereadablity. After Merrick, the quality that I usually see within Rice's work seemed to suddenly fade with each new book. Then we got to Blood Canticle and I wanted to give up. I ended up finishing the series to see if things go better. Unfortunately, they did not.
Anne Rice is an amazing writer, but like Stephen King, has misses within her discography. The Vampire Chronicles has always been hit or miss, with many loving and adoring the books, hating them, or somewhere in between. Personally, I am of the opinion that this series has very high highs and the lowest of lows, and its many faults are due to the author not knowing when enough is enough.
Series Rating: 3.8/5

New episode got me thinking about the books and made me realize I never shared my thoughts about the rest of them; I finished the series while I was on my hiatus which is why I didn't make posts about them. Usually, I would make an individual post for each book but I'm just gonna cover them all here with my rating and a quick summary of my thoughts/feelings.
If you have not read the books there will be spoilers ahead from Merrick all the way to Blood Communion.
Merrick
1 ⭐️
How are you going to write a book where one your main characters, one of your most important characters, a character that is part of your foundation is depressed and attempts to commit suicide because he is still grieving the loss of his daughter a major event in your own series and have it all from the pov of a different character that has no connection to that situation (meaning the events from iwtv) or the child, and have the focus be on this and another character and their relationship?
Louis looking at Anne like Am i a joke to you?
Here's what's funny, I don't hate this book as much as i despise TOTBT but I have to rank it lower because at least that piece of garbage gave me something. In totbt we get some exploration of Lestat being haunted by Claudia and his thoughts and feelings on this and towards his daughter. In Merrick we don't get any exploration of Louis's inner thoughts and feelings, we don't get to see what led him to this point after so many years, we don't get to see his and Lestat's conversation afterward, we don't get to see his emotions when it comes to Claudia- this could have been great if Anne hadn't decided for some reason to hate louis cause I can only assume Anne wrote this during her Louis hating era.
The potential was there, the execution was not.
Blood and Gold
3 ⭐️
I'm just gonna say it, I don't like Marius. I don't hate him. But I don't like him.
Marius is the type of man who if he met a woman with a PhD he would mansplain her own field to her. He can't handle not being "the smartest" or "the wisest".
I've said it before I don't like Marius and Armand's romantic relationship and this book kinda solidified some opinions I had regarding it but I'm not gonna get into that- as I am writing this, however, I am just now realizing that even though this book is like 5 chapters too long (seriously there was no need for this book to have so many pages) I never got Marius reasoning for turning Armand's kids Beni and Sybelle which was the thing that pissed me off the most about him in TVA....the one thing I actually wanted his POV on....
Anyway, I did like reading this book more than I thought I would even though as I said I did find it too long and I'm not particularly a fan of the character. That being said, and this might come as a surprise, but-
Fam, how we feeling about Marius x Pandora??? Because I like them together a surprising amount which is funny because I don't think he's good enough for her but at the same time I am a sucker for devotion and pinning and longing and this man was hardcore pinning and longing like everything came back to her every single time and their reunion was the highlight for me (well that and Bianca leaving him because that line delivery? 🔥). so if anyone reading this feels the same way and likes them together let me know, am I alone in this boat or not?
Blackwood Farm
4.5/5 ⭐️
I loved this book. There were times when I forgot that I was reading a Vampire Chronicles book because it didn't feel like the series I don't know if that makes sense and I feel like that should take points away from it but I got so sucked into this story. The mystery of Goblin was easy to figure out but the rest of the Blackwood family history, and the other mysteries, and the atmosphere it really drew me in and got me hooked. Very enjoyable read. Really liked the character of Quinn too.
Blood Canticle
2.5 ⭐️
RIP Anne Rice you would have loved booktok and insta romance 😂
I don't know if by this point I had just read so much of this series that I had gotten used to Anne's writing...or if the writing in this is really more simplistic. Cause the writing felt off, it felt more simplistic than the rest of the books in the series and Lestat speaking modern was weird- I was not a fan of the writing style in this one.
I won't go into Rowen and Lestat's relationship, but I will say what that girl needed was orgasms and therapy, not a vampire lover. But it was really lovely Lestat's final point about having learned from her and it showed maturity and growth on his part to let her go.
Prince Lestat
4.5 ⭐️
Is my rating partially influenced by Lestat and Louis saying "I love you""my heart is yours" to each other and the book ending with Louis deciding that he will be joining Lestat? yes, and it's going to stay that way
It's also partially influenced by the fact that after what felt like a million years Louis was finally being acknowledged as being important to the story again. I greatly enjoyed this book not just because of the shippy moments but because I love Lestat and I feel like in this book we see him display maturity and growth and he's learned from the shit he's done in the past and I'm just so proud of the man he's become I love him so much he's my baby 🥰
also, i have a love for my favorite characters having to become leaders for their people i don't know how to explain it but yeah
Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis
3.5 ⭐️
I am here for the Loustat, and the Loustat only.
I didn't particularly care for the whole alien thing, it's kinda dumb. I would have been good leaving Amel as just a spirit but it is what it is. What I did really enjoy about this book- like the main things that I enjoyed were the things that had to do with the court, seeing Lestat deal with the responsibilities of being a Prince, the Loustat moments that we got were top tier including my favorite quote/moment ever which is when Louis accepts to join Lestat at the Court and tells him:
"He leaned close to me, and he put his hand on my arm. “ ‘Wither thou goest, I will go, and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people’; and because I have no other god and never will, you shall be my god.”"
I need the show to give me this.
Blood Communion
5 ⭐️
The stress that I felt when Gabrielle got taken I was ready to burn it all down if she had died. I felt all the character's emotions to the point where I even felt bad about Marius being taken because he's so important to Lestat and Armand and their grief over losing him and the others was so palpable. And the sense of danger could also be felt.
It makes my heart so happy that Lestat got his happy ending and everything he wanted. just thinking about it makes me so emotional to think about the man he has become leading his people with his family and friends and loved ones by his side, and accepting himself, and learning from his mistakes- I'm so proud of him like I genuinely feel pride when I think of him and how far he's come 😭💕
It was a great way to end the series. There are some pet peeves but they don't matter, I loved it. You know when you finish a book that's so good that you have to sit in silence and reflect for a minute? this is one of those books for me.

Anne Rice's 'Blood Communion', the last book of her Vampire Chronicles, was published 4 years ago to this day.
Of course, her last vampire tale was spawned from a long line of 15 books altogether starting with the publication of her iconic novel 'Interview With The Vampire' in 1976. She effectively changed the vampire genre by including themes of homosexuality, existentialism, morality, betrayal, community and unconditional love. Her vampires were no longer the cliche monsters that we feared but the tortured souls who made us care for them. In the world of vampire fiction, Bram Stoker may be the King, but Anne Rice is undeniably THE Queen herself.
Sadly, after her passing last year, I began to realize that it may have been fate that 'Blood Communion' was quite literally the "conclusive" chapter of her chronicles. Even though the novel left me feeling excited and wanting more, I also felt a sense of comfort with the emotional depth of closure from her characters towards the end.
Alas, we will never read more new tales from Anne Rice, but her characters will always live on forever (Pun intended to her beloved immortal vampires). ❤️

Y/N looks around nervously as Clark drags him into a nightclub called Atlantis in Metropolis. Inside, the lights are flashin, and the music blaring. Clark pushes through the crowd of dancers as he pulls Y/N by the hand. A young waitress with a tray of drinks walks by, and when she she's Clark, she smiled. "Hey, what's up, Kal?"
"Why'd she call you Kal, Clark?" Y/N asked over the loud music.
Clark grins wolfishly. "It's my secret identity." They head towards a bar, but Y/N makes Clark stop and look at him. "Clark. Clark! I have been worried about you for three months, and you've been hanging around in nightclubs? With skimpy dressed women? Men who don't know how to put clothes on?"
"You're so cute when you're angry." Clark pulls him by the hand to the bar. Y/n, if you keep talking about Hicksville, you're gonna be on the next bus going back. Now I thought you were here to have some fun."
"That 'Hicksville' is my home. So, yeah, maybe I will be going home." Y/N turned to leave, but Clark grabbed him by the arm and turned him around to face him. "So, stubborn. It's kinda hot. I always wanted to try rough sex." He leans in and kisses him. Y/N returns the kiss eagerly until Clark finally pulls away.
"I'm glad you're here." For a moment, looking into those baby blues, Clark almost seemed like himself again. The shy and vulnerable version. Y/N nods. "Me too."
Y/N walked away, and the bartender watched the exchange with a smirk. "If he's the one you've been saving yourself for, I can understand the wait, my man." Clark smiled as they fist bump.
Close to the bathroom, Y/N dials the Kent's phone number on his phone. He waits for someone to pick up before he hears Mr. Kent's voice on the other side of it. "Hello?"
"Mr. Kent, I found Clark."
"Y/N, where are you?"
"A nightclub in Metropolis called Atlantis. He's acting really strange." Y/N said.
"Y/N, listen to me. Clark is not himself right now. I want you to be very careful. Now I'm on my way down there, but if he wants to leave, I don't want you to try and stop him." Mr. Kent said.
"Okay." Y/N turned to see Clark standing behind him. "Who you talking to?" He snatched the phone and put it to his ear. "Who's this?"
"Clark, it's me."
"Jonathan... how's the farm?" Clark said with malice.
"Clark, your mother and I love you very much, and we want you to come home."
"Is that right? Hey, what about not dwelling on the past and making a fresh new start? Come on, you can admit it. You're happier I'm gone. I mean, it's not like you two ever really cared about me. I was just a charity case for you good churchgoers. Poor little orphan boy." Clark said.
"Clark...Son, that's not true." Jonathan protests.
"I'm not your son! And you're not my parents. You never have been! You never will be! I don't know why I'm wasting my breath talking to you." Clark throws the cell phone to the ground.
"Clark, what is the matter with you?! Your parents love you! I love you." Y/N reached for his face, but Clark grabbed his hands and glared at him. "Do you always betray the people you love?" Y/N doesn't respond, and Clark walks away.
A little while later, Y/N pouts over his coke on the rocks as Clark is sitting at the bar, flirting with anything with a skirt or a giant bulge in their pants. It's his way of punishing Y/N, and it's working. The way Clark teases and smiles at some chick with too much makeup on her face.
The final straw was when Clark reached down between her skirt. Y/N stood up and walked towards Clark. "I'm leaving. Enjoy your stay in AIDS City." Y/N turns to walk out of the club, but Clark pins him to the bar and towers over him. "You're mine, Y/N. You belong to me, and you know it." He kissed him.

Hi! A question about Memnoch, was he one of the Replimoids from PL trilogy or was he really the devil? And did Lestat go into a coma cause he thought he had really helped him?
Hey!
Kapetria says in her tale that she suspects that Memnoch is also one of those, yes:
"I suspect this Replimoid, Maxym, too survived the destruction that was soon visited on all of us. But not bodily as we did. I suspect that he exists as surely as Amel exists, and that his name is now Memnoch, who creates astral traps for unwary souls."
Memnoch acts like the Devil, but he actually isn't not in the... ultimate sense of the word, though I would argue he definitely is in the sense that he is that incarnation for the souls he keeps trapped in his purgatory.
Lestat... went a bit mad after his encounter with Memnoch. In part for thinking he helped the Devil, yes. And, supposedly, God. And because he saw the Hells. And Heaven.
The eye that was taken from him (and that he later got back) also served as a kind of anchor for similar beings, "angels", angels who then made him do their bidding.
"Angels," he said, musing, "or those who call themselves angels, or would have me conclude that they're angels; and they have come to me in the long years since I fled Memnoch. They've come to me as I lay like one in a coma on the chapel floor of St. Elizabeth's, the building in New Orleans which was bequeathed to me by Roger's daughter. It seems my stolen eye, my restored eye, my bloodshot eye, has established some link with these beings, and I could tell you a tale of them, but now is not the time." "They harmed you, didn't they?" I asked, sensing it in his manner. He nodded. "They left my body there for my friends to watch over," he explained, and for the first time since I'd seen him, he looked troubled, indecisive, even faintly confused. "But my spirit they took with them," he went on. "And in a realm as palpable as this very room they set me down to do their bidding, always threatening to snatch back this right eye, to take it forever if I didn't do what they bid me to do."
So the coma was not always voluntary, something David also guesses at in Merrick, and which Lestat here tells of in Blackwood Farm.
However - Lestat in PLatRoA also remarks that Memnoch has no power over him anymore (and interestingly he brings up Armand as a spellbinder here as well):
“Who was Memnoch?” “Why use the past tense?” asked Gremt. “You don’t think he’s hovering near you, quite ready again to sweep you up into his imaginary worlds?” “He can’t,” I said. “He’s tried. He’s tried for years.” They were skeptical. “Every spellbinder has a signature,” I said. “Once I learn to recognize that signature, I become immune. They can’t make it happen to me after that.” I studied them individually. “Centuries ago, Armand would seek to sweep me up in his spells. I learned to recognize them instantly.”
(This non-voluntary coma (and this comparison of Memnoch and Armand(!) is also why I think "the groan" might be Lestat in his coma in Dubai, but that just as a remark^^.)

i'm sorry if this is a bad question, but do you know anywhere online that i can read the vampire chronicles books for free? i don't want to ask my parents for money, i don't think they'd approve of me reading these types of books. i'm 19 but financially dependent on them for the foreseeable future so i don't wanna make them mad
hi! oh no, definitely not a bad question!
here's a link to a shared google folder that's been going around for a while with The Vampire Chronicles books 1-11, plus some other stuff like 'Interlude with the Undead' aka Armand's Playboy Story and 'Vittorio' (a standalone vampire novel that doesn't really have anything to do with the rest of TVC)
and here's a folder I just made that contains the PL-trilogy (so the last three books in the series)
they don't display by publication date in the drive, but the chronological reading order is as follows:
Interview with the Vampire (1976)
The Vampire Lestat (1985)
The Queen of the Damned (1988)
The Tale of the Body Thief (1992)
Memnoch the Devil (1995)
Pandora (1998)
The Vampire Armand (1998)
Merrick (2000)
Blood and Gold (2001)
Blackwood Farm (2002)
Blood Canticle (2003)
Prince Lestat (2014)
Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis (2016)
Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat (2018)
a little bonus for the DM fans: I extracted the Devil's Minion's chapter from QotD a while ago to make your life and mine that much easier
enjoy, and welcome to our fandom if you decide to stick around! ♥️

Linked Universe AU Directory
Anyway, I didn't put every single AU on this thing. I do not have the time and energy for that because there's over 600 LU works tagged as alternate universes on Ao3. I did follow some general guidelines when I was deciding which works to add, the most important one being that the AU had to be more than just canon divergence and had to affect all the characters equally. Feel free to add onto this post, if you think something is missing.

Alas, one too few poll options to list them all individually. If you read them in a different order or combination, I would be glad to hear in replies/tags.
