The poisoned Skittle problem, from the perspective of a non poison Skittle
The metaphor of the bowl of Skittles, some percentage of which are poison, and how many of those Skittles you want to eat, has been used by feminists about men, and republicans about immigrants. I'm increasingly devoid of shits to give about what kind of vile things I'm going to be called, so what the heck, I'll use it too for this.
With class and housing in the US, there is a poisoned Skittle problem; the lower income you go, the higher the percentage of assaults George type people are in the mix. (Please note now that I am Not claiming that the elite are not prone to being assaults Georg, or that there's no assaults Georg in higher income brackets) For added fun, the poorer you are, the more you have to be in physical proximity to others who live in your area, while walking to the store or taking public transportation, increasing your vulnerability to being assaulted, etc. In the suburbs, a lot of the time, the guy who lives three houses down from yours and you have literally never seen each other, so it doesn't matter if he would immediately grab your crotch if he was in crotch-grabbing range, because the two of you have never been that close together. If you live in a more dense environment and travel by foot, your chances of being in crotch-grabbing range are much higher, so a crotch-grabber, etc. in your area is a more concerning problem for you.
Most people very reasonably prefer to live somewhere further away from assaults Georg. The thing is, other people also prefer to live further for assaults Georg, and if you were just living next to assaults Georg, you are a Skittle of indeterminate poison. So when a nice redlined Blue suburb with a great school district is considering if they're going to permit some affordable housing, they are going to look at the income bracket that will be living there and say, "There's too high a percentage of poison Skittles in that income bracket. We don't want to live in a community with assaults Georg, or invite assaults Georg Jr into our nice school, so we don't want affordable housing here."
So now you, as an innocent non poison Skittle are left trying to figure out how you are going to communicate your non poison status so you can get the heck away from the poison Skittles. The current way this information is conveyed is by convincing a higher paid job to hire you, making more money, and buying your way into a better neighborhood. This is a rather lossy way to sort, and shit like constantly disrupted sleep at the weekly hotel from all the shitty people who live there with you doesn't help with better job thing. There's plenty of non poisoned Skittles in that bowl, but how to extract them safely?
The obvious next question is why we as a society don't seem to have any solution to the problem of getting assaulted by assaults Georg other than to individually just try to scramble away from where such folks are statistically and to price the entire category of people who are statistically more likely to be assaults Georg out of certain areas. And now it's a criminal justice system problem and I'll leave that for another day, but overall, the criminal justice system seems a lot more interested in hassling people based on statistical similarities to assaults Georg than doing fuck all about stopping assaults Georg.

Tw: abuse, assault
Why do men with a platform, money and power think it’s okay to exploit and hurt people? Why do they continuously think they can do whatever they want with no consequences? Why do they believe that their actions, their CRIMES, will never reach the light of day? Remember friends, karma is a bitch and will always come back around. Watch your back.

Say their names
These are people with real lives who have been hurt, exploited and manipulated. They have been called liars for calling out people who have abused and exploited them. They had to see the people who hurt them thrive on the internet, and they deserve to watch their downfall.
And from the depths of my heart and soul,
Fuck William Gold
Fuck George Davidson
Fuck Punz/Luke
Fuck Clayton Huff
Fuck Nicholas Armaos
If you believe that you can hurt women, or anyone for that matter, you deserve to rot in the deepest depths of hell.
And before anyone calls me out for using their real names, these people have committed crimes, don’t let them hide behind a screen name

Saying that non-conforming female characters don't face as much misogyny as their "feminine" counterparts is so funny cause literally the misogyny in their treatment is more overt because they aren't staying "in their place" like men think they should. The disdain for women + misogynistic societal ideals are so much more blatant in male characters interacting with these women. Countless times they are, in essence, told they need to sit down, shut up, and know their place but somehow that translates into them having "masculine privilege". I can only assume that people with this take haven't actually read the books and only get their information from second-hand sources.
#Men actually love it when the group they're oppressing doesn't conform with their restrictive measures that's exactly how things work 🙄#George saying that his non-conforming female characters were outcasts was really just overkill cause this is explicitly stated in the books#It's such a stupid take to have or try to argue cause there's literally no basis for it anywhere in the books#the inherit misogyny in othering women for not conforming to a misogynistic and patriarchal society though...I have to laugh#Coming from the so-called feminists in fandom make a career of throwing female characters under the bus to prop up their faves#Brienne literally gets told not to go crying if she gets raped because she's asking for it by /acting like a man/#and her mistreatment by both genders for her looks and behavior is well documented in her POV and those who interact with her#Asha gets denied her claim for being a women and repeatedly treated like an idiot for pushing for it anyways#Arya is an outcast in her own family and her behavior is lamented by her father mother and sister lol#I would just really like to know where this supposed privilege comes in??? where is it actually at??#cause it doesn't get them better treatment...better access to their claims...security from being assaulted...so where exactly is it?#just another fandom idea that can never be backed up but people treat like an absolute fact anways#obligatory this isn't me that feminine female characters don't face misogyny cause people love misinterpreting my points#asoiaf#brienne of tarth#asha greyjoy#arya stark#daenerys targaryen#fandom nonsense

At least two Republican members of Congress were seen wearing lapel pins in the shape of an AR-15 rifle while conducting official business in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, when two mass shootings took place in the U.S.
Tweets showing Rep. George Santos (R-New York) and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida) wearing the pins went viral as many users pointed out the already high number of mass shootings that have occurred in the country since the start of the new year.
Tumblr media
It’s likely that the two wore the pins all day long (in lieu of the U.S. flag pins they usually wear), as the Republican lawmakers were seen on House cameras, in footage that aired on C-SPAN, wearing the pins at different places in the Capitol — Santos, for instance, was seen wearing an AR-15 pin while giving a speech on the House floor, while Luna wore hers on camera while participating in a House Oversight Committee hearing.
Many lawmakers said that wearing a pin depicting a weapon that is frequently chosen by mass shooters was insensitive to people whose loved ones have been murdered in such shootings.
“To be promoting them on the floor of the House, is despicable and I think an insult to all of the victims of assault weapons,” Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-New York) said.
Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-California) said that the pins lacked “common decency.”
“Anna Paulina Luna wore an assault weapon pin at today’s Oversight hearing — less than 48 hours after her state experienced a mass shooting,” Gomez said on Twitter. “You can’t make this shit up.”
Tumblr media
That same day, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) gave a speech on the House floor championing unregulated gun ownership, lamenting the fact that the U.S. doesn’t account for more than 46% of all civilian-owned guns in the world.
“We need to get our numbers up, boys and girls,” Boebert said.
Gun violence experts have presented evidence suggesting that the vast amount of guns in the U.S. corresponds to the country having a higher homicide rate than other wealthy nations on the globe.
In 2022, there were 648 mass shootings, an 86% increase from just five years prior. Since the start of 2023, there have been more than 50 mass shootings — including at least two on the day Santos and Luna wore their AR-15 pins. If current trends keep up, there will have been around 600 mass shootings this year by December 31.
Should the U.S. exceed 600 mass shootings in 2023, this would be the fourth year in a row that that many mass shootings took place within a single calendar year.

THESE REPUBLICANS ARE ACTUALLY WEARING AR-15 PINS IN CONGRESS DURING GUN VIOLENCE SURVIVORS WEEK
House Democrats criticised freshman Republicans, including embattled Representative George Santos, for wearing assault rifle pins on Capitol Hill.
Democratic Representative Jimmy Gomez of California tweeted out photos of Representatives Anna Paulina Luna of Florida and Mr Santos of New York wearing lapel pins in the shape of an assault weapon.
"Where are these assault weapon pins coming from? Who is passing these out?" he tweeted.

do you guys ever think about how different the content creator space be if people talked things out between themselves before going onto social media platforms with huge followings of people who’ll defend them to the ends of the earth and labeled someone else something that will forever change every single creator involved and the community’s perception of them over something that just might possibly be a uncomfortable misunderstanding

[AU They actually bonded in Assault on Arkham and scaped together in the end]
Amanda Waller: Let me remind you again of your situation, kill switch or no kill switch. Tell me, what's the worst accusation each of you ever got?
Harley: Being straight. Ew
Boomerang: Having a fake australlian accent.
Killer Frost: Not being as cool as the other Killer Frost.
King Shark: Not being an actual shark?
Deadshot: Being a bad father. That one was from you, by the way.
Amanda Waller: What are you talking about? All of you were accused of actual crimes.
Harley: Yeah. That we comited. I'm okay with being a certified derranged criminal, but straight?
Boomerang: Exactaly. I steal things and sometimes hurt people a lot, I'm okay with being a Flash Rogue, but they said Jude Law had a better australian accent than me. I AM australian.
Deadshot: The only two people that ever called me a bad father were you and Linda from PTA. I love my kid and take parenting seriusly. So it's only logical this stupid lie is worse than being called a killer, the last one is just my job.
Amanda Waller: I was going to say I could give you the death penalty at any moment with any acusation real or fake but now I don't have a momento.
King Shark: Too bad?
Killer Frost: You know that if you actually have done or even threatned that we would just kill you right?

Sometimes I think about how great Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen could have been together, if they weren't being directed and fed lines by a man who thinks "so love has blinded you?" is good married couple banter.
Like. Just have Anakin be awkward and cute and very intense when he's talking about how the world Should Be. Just have Padme be awkward and cute and very intense when she's talking about how the world Should Be (Guided By Reasonable & Fair Democratic Process).
They have big things in common. They share a drive to improve the galaxy, and they've both been let down by the reigning government. They're both independent people, they're both drawn to leadership, they're both kinda snarky... And on top of that, they've still got that opposites attract chemistry going on, too. They have all the foundations of a good and compelling connection that we, the audience, could appreciate.
That is, on paper.
And it pisses me off! It shouldn't be that hard to just connect these two people who want things to be better, and have a lot of power and ability to effect change. And somebody who writes words good for a living* might even make those two people likeable and nice.
Instead we got Date Rapakin and Disney Princess Syndrome: The Character. And they talk about nothing interesting ever. And Anakin commits minor mass murder before they're even dating, but Padme still wants that because mm, Man. Men and their silly ways, always leaving the toilet seat up and killing not just the men, but the women and the children too.
* your daily reminder that the writers' strike is the fault of a few greedy corporations who want to own everybody's art but pay none of them for anything

A special election has been set for February 13th to fill the vacancy in NY-03 left by George Santos's expulsion from the US House of Representatives. The winner of this election will serve until early January of 2025.
There will not be a primary for the February special election. Party leaders will choose the candidates. Democrats have already chosen former Rep. Tom Suozzi as their candidate. Suozzi gave up his seat for an unsuccessful run for NY governor in 2022. He previously represented much of the largely suburban area which is now in NY-03.
Republicans are having a much harder time finding a candidate for the February election. As of Friday evening, they still don't have one.
An individual who has put himself forward as a possible GOP candidate in the regular November 2024 election in NY-03 is one of the pro-Trump terrorists who attacked the US Capitol on 06 January 2021.
A man who has filed to run in 2024 for the seat held, up until last Friday, by ex-Rep. George Santos (R-NY) was found guilty of crimes related to the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol this week. Philip Sean Grillo, a 49-year-old man from Queens who in May filed the paperwork to run for office in New York’s 3rd Congressional District, was found guilty of “felony obstruction of an official proceeding and other charges related to his conduct during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol,” the Department of Justice announced in a news release this week. Grillo, who was arrested in February 2021, was not only accused of entering and exiting the building several times — including once through a broken window near the Senate wing door — he was also accused of pushing up against police as he carried a megaphone throughout the riot and was recorded on video saying, “I’m here to stop the steal” and “it’s our fucking House!” He also took time to get high during the attack.
Grillo certainly has the type of mentality to be a House Republican.
Grillo also recorded videos of himself during the riot and smoked weed inside the building. Grillo proceeded to enter and exit the Capitol three more times and can be seen in multiple instances pushing up against police officers,” DOJ said in the news release. “In another recording from his cell phone, he can be seen smoking marijuana inside the Capitol. In this video, Grillo stated, among other things, ‘Our House!’ He asks, ‘Who’s smoking grass?’ and, ‘Can I get a hit it of that s—?’ Another video depicted Grillo high-fiving other rioters after smoking marijuana inside the Capitol.” During the trial, Grill claimed he had “no idea” that Congress met in the Capitol building — even though he is running for Congress — and his lawyers argued he was under the impression that he was allowed to behave how he did that day. Grill hasn’t yet been sentenced so it is unclear if he will still be able to run for Santos’ seat next year. It’s also not clear if he will be a candidate in the Feb. 13 special election to fill the seat, now that Santos has been expelled.
Republicans in NY-03 do understand that they have an image problem because of George Santos. Though it's fun to imagine Donald Trump campaigning for a clueless MAGA stoner.
