5 YouTube Channels Homeschool Families Simply MUST Check Out
This Week's Curated Content is All About Some Really Dope (read: Interesting, Informative, and Generally Accurate) YOUTUBE Channels that Homeschooling Families (or Classroom Teachers) Can Use to Support Their Homeschool Curriculum.
(Looking for Podcast Suggestions to Supplement Your Homeschooling or Classroom Curriculum? Say Less! Check Out This Post Filled With Educational Podcast Recommendations.)
Tumblr media
MELANATED AND WELL-EDUCATED
New and Confused Homeschool Families Start Here! Talk about user-friendly. This channel is the perfect go-to site, especially for new homeschooling families.
The presenter, Erica, is well-informed and speaks with the benefit of first hand experience. She also podcasts, blogs, and vlogs (or something like that 😃) so you can consume her content in various ways.
Tumblr media
ThisBrownTeacher's Hot Take: It's a GO for Me.
These videos are clean! The recording and formatting is so well done. And getting insight from someone who's actually DOING what you're doing ... well, well, well ... you gotta love it when a great plan comes together.
Tumblr media
CRASH COURSE
Crash Course is a YouTube channel filled with science, social science, and historical content presented in fun, usually a mix of real people and animated clips.
Agreeing that the site is witty and fast-paced, CommonSense.org and other commenters are seemingly thrown off by the word 'course' in the channels moniker. CommonSense.org gives Crash Course a rating of 3 out 5 stars, deciding that anything labeled a "course" should be interactive and offer opportunities for students to "engage" with the content - something they claim Crash Course does not necessarily do.
Tumblr media
ThisBrownTeacher's Hot Take: Check it out. 👍🏾
Sometimes a video is just that ... a video. And most homeschooling or traditional school teachers will add their own spin on information curated from the internet regardless. The content is better suited toward older learners and families should preview the content first to ensure that all topic matter is copacetic.
Tumblr media
THE HANDMADE HOMESCHOOLER
With shoutouts to the "Homeschool Haters" (facts 😉) and videos titled THINGS I WON'T DO AS A HOMESCHOOL MOM and 6 THINGS I DON'T DO AS A HOMESCHOOL MOM, you know you are about to get the real-deal-truth-ruth when it comes to homeschooling. Mandy's channel -THE HANDMADE HOMESCHOOLER- is truly an internet fav. Plus, she runs a free Facebook Group and, even though I, personally, don't rock with a whole bunch of extraneous and miscellaneous purchases and fees related to homeschooling, if you need some early guidance, this channel has curriculum and other resources for preschool and upper grades at the ready.
Tumblr media
ThisBrownTeacher's Hot Take: Yes, Please! 💯
Besides the cute, little YouTube Shorts she does, as a classroom teacher, I REALLY appreciate The Handmade Homeschooler's approach to HS prep and organization. She seems to backwards plan and Year-At-A-Glance prep like the most veteran of school teachers. Her content is interesting and informative. And definitely the place to go for real talk, organization, preparation, and subject based ideas and information.
Tumblr media
ART FOR KIDS HUB
Art for Kids Hub is a great look for all homeschooling families because:
The channel is actually created and hosted by an actual family. With kids. Doing art.
Most of the projects are easy, uncomplicated, and do not require a bunch of supplies or skills. In most cases, pencils and perhaps crayons or markers will suffice.
My boy loves this channel for all of the cool HOW TO DRAW ... videos that provide easy to understand, step-by-step techniques for drawing everything from ants to a slice of lemon pie.
Tumblr media
ThisBrownTeacher's Hot Take: For sure! For sure! 👌🏾
While some of the drawing tutorials or subject matter (Bugatti anyone?) may frustrated younger or easily frustrated children, pre-viewing and pre-selecting a drawing or two you know your homeschooler can handle is the perfect addition to your Art or Creativity curriculum. For sure!
Tumblr media
Real Life Lore
What's cool about the Real Life Lore YouTube channel is, by far, the ... LORE! Featuring titles such as What's the Deepest Hole We Can Possible Dig? This channel is chock full of subject matter based topics that are arranged in way that makes what could be somewhat dry content (digging holes ... huh?) really engaging for elementary aged homeschoolers and up. Filled with science and history/social studies heavy themes, from comprehension questions, essays, drawings, map quests, experiments, and more, your learner can successfully interact with this content in so many ways and have fun doing it.
Tumblr media
ThisBrownTeacher's Hot Take: For sure! Say less. ✅
Top Fuel Dragsters Visualized and Telling Time on Mars. Sheesh. Say less.

"Katherine, have you ever desired the companionship of a pet?"
Tumblr media
@thesacrificialxlamb
Tumblr media
her first instinct was to tell him "no". what would she want to do with a pet? it would just be an obstacle and she’s not one of those people whose only company is a pet because they aren't capable of making real contacts.
then, however, katherine remembered the big dog her family used to have. the horse she used to have. they weren't classically pets – the dog was mainly there to guard the house and yard and a horse wasn't the typical pet. she remembered the joy those animals brought and she also remembered the loyalty of these animals. their kind eyes. their affection.
admittedly, although subconsciously, she slightly envied the people who have a pet and formed one of these admirably strong relationships with them.
"a pet is not feasible for me … you would have to be a responsible owner and i'm not such a person. it’s not just about reminding yourself to feed it regularly or walk it. it's about if i have to rush out of an area, i don’t have the time to go where i stay and pick up my cat or my dog. i would have to leave them behind, never knowing what happened to them." and she could not bear that, her heart would, after all, be attached to this animal. it would be a loss she'd mourn and she wanted to spare herself that feeling.
"a pet is also a vulnerable weak spot. they depend on you, and i don’t want anything to happen to an innocent animal just because it’s my animal. so no, i do not allow myself to even consider the possibility of a pet."

nadia petrova
how and why did she turn vampire, why was it so important for her to find katherine? → sent by @malka-lisitsa
nadia petrova was turned into a vampire at her own request in 1515 at the age of 25. during that time, nadia already lived with a group of people that belonged to the 'travelers'; a once powerful, cursed sub-culture of witches.
but let’s begin at the start:
as a newborn, nadia was adopted by a couple, dimitar stoyanov & maria stoyanova, who weren't blessed to conceive living children and were desperate. nadia's grandfather (katherine's father) knew dimitar who was a fisher, lived in a village near the black sea, and with whom he often traded.
katherine's father had already decided that katherine's child won't stay in the family as soon as the pregnancy was revealed. at first, he thought of giving the baby to a religious institution as a poor foundling that was accidentally discovered in the forest. but knowing that dimitar and maria were that desperate for a child, he decided to offer the baby to them, long before nadia was even born. they didn't ask too many questions and received a newborn nadia two days after she was born. dimitar and maria were also the ones who gave nadia her name.
nadia grew up poor but loved. sure, dimitar and maria would have preferred a boy but they were glad they had at least a child. dimitar and maria both had blue eyes, so nadia stood out with her brown ones. when nadia was three, she went on a long trip to visit a graveside. although too young to actually remember, this trip stuck to her. they never traveled as far and the ones who were dead (apparently a very gruesome death) weren't even family nor was it an actual funeral. nonetheless, both parents insisted on going to visit the graves. she remembered that both her parents were extremely thankful to the one man in that grave and they talked about nadia.
later, nadia did develop quite a temper although she was trying to behave. she was about fourteen years old when an argument with her mother escalated and the truth slipped from her lips. it was a shock to find out she was adopted although she didn't dare to ask about it at first. a few months later, maria caught a terrible fever and everyone feared for her life. nadia was with maria most of the time and maria, not wanting to die with any secrets, told nadia about the petrov's and how they have gotten her. maria only knew that nadia's biological mother didn't want her and wanted her to be gone which was what she told nadia. fortunately, maria recovered but the knowledge that nadia's biological mother didn't want her and gave her away without asking about her, hurt her.
at the age of seventeen, two things happened: she befriended someone from the group of 'travelers' who recognized that nadia was one of them. membership is earned by birthright and since the travelers needed each member to practice, they tried to 'recruit' her. another thing that happened was that her parents were trying to marry nadia off which was something nadia didn't want to, despite understanding their reasons (dimitar was getting older and as a girl, nadia needed a proper dowry).
nadia decided to join the 'travelers' and by doing so, she also found out about how it's possible that she has some kind of magic within her which in turn only increased her curiosity about her biological family.
it took years until she found the correct family because she only had a name and a faint memory of visiting graves. she also couldn't return home and ask her 'parents' because she had run away. with time, nadia's resentment against her biological mother grew. that also didn't change when she found out that her mother was mr. petrov's daughter who disappeared and therefore survived the gruesome murder. nadia only found out because someone remembered that the petrov's were of traveler heritage and that one daughter suddenly disappeared.
not knowing where someone comes from and being faced with that big mystery prevented nadia from finding rest. she wanted to know why. why would someone give away a child? why would that person not care for her? why did she never ask for her? why did she want to get rid of her? why did she disappear? why was the rest of the family murdered when nadia was only two years old? wasn't her biological mother scared for her? why did she hate her?
she wanted these questions to be answered but it was difficult to do so. it already took quite some time to even find out the name of her mother because her name wasn't on any gravestone and it has been decades since one has seen her.
nadia grew older and as she grew older, she knew she needed to make a decision: let it rest and put it behind her or keep searching. nadia knew she couldn't find peace and therefore decided to keep going. back then it wasn't necessarily safe for a woman to travel alone. an unwed woman also didn't have a good status and nadia was already 25. because of her connection with the travelers she knew of vampires. being a vampire would grant her enough time to keep searching while also giving her the opportunity to protect herself.
she managed to convince the travelers to help her track down a vampire before she kinda forced the vampire to turn her by extracting blood. then, her neck was snapped and she woke up in transition.
why did the travelers help her turn into a vampire? it's quite simple. at this time, the name 'katerina petrova' was a whisper that went around. a rumor about an escaping doppelgänger. and the travelers had a vested interest in finding the doppelgänger for their own purposes.
of course, if someone turns into a vampire, emotions are even more heightened hence why nadia was even more interested in finding out her origins and getting an answer: why would her mother hate her so much that she abandoned her, left, and never returned?

HOMESCHOOLING VERSUS TRADITIONAL SCHOOLING: Part One
Tumblr media
Homeschooling is beneficial and appropriate for many families and is a decision that should be made on an individual basis.
Yet, for whatever reason, with some in the traditional school community, the question of homeschool VERSUS traditional school continuously seems to rear its unwelcome little head.
Here, then, is where I find it appropriate to note that if you've had a successful traditional [public/private] school experience and subsequently came out of that experience not only well-rounded and well-educated but also appropriately socialized [no bullying, plenty of substantial friendships that enhanced both your life and your wellbeing], and full of not only book knowledge and suitable life skills, but also beneficial social and emotional learning - Congratulations. Now go forth and conquer because You Certainly Did That! Traditional School was (obviously) the proper educational solution for you and your family. High-Five! 🖐🏾
Only with some in the traditional school community does the question of homeschool VERSUS traditional school ever seem to rear its unwelcome little head.
But here is where you must also recognize that just as the decisions for your family are your business, so too are the decisions of families who choose to pursue educational solutions that perhaps differ from yours. In a nutshell, it should be understood, that while the choice to homeschool is someone's business it just so happens that that business is not yours.
Tumblr media
Homeschooling is regulated in every state. In some states, homeschooled families are regulated and observed far more than teachers in traditional school classrooms. (Ask me how I know). And this overused, recycled list of so-called relevant "homeschool-centric issues" are not now nor have they ever been exclusive only to homeschooling.
Appropriate Socialization?
I wonder if the boy whom nobody ever plays with agrees that all public school socialization is correct and appropriate?
Meaningful Friendships and Relationships?
Let's consider if the teenage girl who cries every night and is beginning to make unwise social decisions because she feels that she can never match up to the "cool" girls believes this to be so.
Mandatory Reporting? Overlooked Abuse?
The child who STILL gets smacked around every night, covers the bruises with a sweatshirt (that no teacher ever asks about) every day, and practically starves every weekend begs to differ.
Relevant Curriculum and Teaching?
Check the Yelp or Google listings of many traditional (particularly public) schools or sift your way through the Facebook posts filled with distressed parents and guardians uncomfortable not only with what their children are being taught but also dissatisfied with the experience level or attitudes of the teachers interacting with their children on a daily basis for proof of the fallacy inherent in this "all teachers are good teachers" misnomer.
On this issue then, it is important that we all, on both sides, are explicitly clear. When it comes to the education of children, this isn't some type of cage match. It's a personal decision, individualistic to each family and the child they are tasked to raise and protect.
And as it relates to the question of homeschool or traditional school then, I'd advise that those with alternative opinions (on either side) quit attempting to argue the issue with each other and, instead, go argue this topic with their therapist or their mother. Respectfully.

It was the way he pulled her to his chest, the way he’d so readily fended for her escape of "this glorified prison cell” that—despite Tahariel’s odd, almost callous behavior—made her cling close. Ignoring that heavy feeling below her heart in favour of this sensation of being safeguarded. This feeling of being so precious that she was worth making such a threat.
And Allisae hoped that a threat was all it would be, as she looked at Minglian’s innocent face....before something behind the Tengmen princess drew attention.
Tumblr media
Allisae’s eyes widened as the bridge rose into view over the castle walls. "Ariel..." Her hand finds purchase on Tahariel's forearm, the way it once did whenever the anxiety felt too great. And her gaze flicks to his face, trying to foresee what his reaction might be---They never raise the bridges while the palace was docked, which meant her father had become aware that something in his palace wasn’t where he wanted and this was his way to try and keep things where they needed to be. And Allisae knew Tahariel would come to realize that.

"Seems more like either they never offered him a role in the spinoff" - if that's the case they are very stupid.. and i also think luka wouldn't refuse, he was always the most enthusiastic cast member (honestly, did better promo for the show than the official lcdp account...) he came up with headcanons, went to events. i hope he appears, kills at least 1 new character and take their place. i want to know his backstory with andrés and sergio.
I agree completely. It's extremely stupid of them not to offer Luka a role or to give Jakov a place in the spinoff. And right!? He did so much for them and this is how they repay him? the audacity!
PLEASE. It'd redeem the show a litle bit if Jakov at least showed up, killed someone, and just inexplicably took their place. His backstory with the hermanos is something we still need to know and I can't believe they're really not going to answer it asdfasdf

Honestly I thought you were talking about mine where both Kondrakis were dead and 408 just pretended to be them to keep their presence around to not be lonely but without a "king" to help them they slowly lost their memories and their illusion began to warp as they forgot who Kondraki was until they completely stopped their illusion of him or something-
