There are countless temples and shrines in Japan, a country where old customs and modernity coexist together, serving as both architectural wonders and spiritual havens. These revered locations, which are dispersed throughout the nation, provide a fascinating window into the intricate cultural fabric and ingrained religious customs of Japan.
Traveling through this enchanted island, the charm of ancient buildings and tranquil settings beckons. Every location in Japan—from Tokyo to Kyoto, Nara to Nikko—unfolds a distinct chapter in the country's spiritual past. The trip includes the well-known Senso-ji Temple in vibrant Tokyo, where the aroma of incense blends with the sounds of historic ceremonies, and the peace of Kyoto's Ryoan-ji, a Zen sanctuary featuring a simple rock garden that invites reflection.
Every temple and shrine tell a story of custom, devotion, and architectural genius, whether you're touring the vivid vermillion torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha or gazing in wonder at the golden grandeur mirrored in the waters around Kinkaku-ji. Come with us on a spiritual tour through Japan's must-see temples and shrines, where each step is a step back in time and each silent prayer contributes to the melodic harmony of this alluring country.
Here are some must-see temples and shrines in Japan.
Tumblr media
1. Senso-ji Temple: An Iconic Tokyo Site: The oldest temple in Tokyo is Senso-ji, which is tucked away in the Asakusa historic area. Visitors approach the main hall through the colorful Thunder Gate and Nakamise Shopping Street, where the sounds of historic rites mix with the aroma of incense.
2. Fushimi Inari Taisha: The Infinite Journey to Torii: Fushimi Inari Taisha, in Kyoto, is well-known for its enthralling route made up of hundreds of vermillion torii gates. A mysterious ascent of the forested Mount Inari is provided by this Shinto temple, which is devoted to the god of rice and wealth, Inari.
3. Kyoto's Golden Pavilion, or Kinkaku-ji: Kyoto's Kinkaku-ji, often known as the Golden Pavilion, is a Zen Buddhist temple and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This magnificent building's top stories are covered in gold leaf, which reflects in the pond's mirror-like waters to create an air of ethereality and tranquillity.
4. Todai-ji: The Giant Buddha of Nara: The massive bronze statue of Buddha, known as the Daibutsu, is kept at Todai-ji in Nara. Viewers may marvel at the enormous size of this Buddha statue and explore the lovely surrounding park, which is home to hundreds of freely ranging deer, at one of Japan's most historically significant temples.
5.Byodo-in: A Uji Phoenix: Known for its Phoenix Hall, Byodo-in, located in the city of Uji, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Originally built during the Heian period, this graceful temple is a stunning example of Pure Land Buddhism architecture. It is encircled by colourful gardens and a peaceful pond.
6. Himeji Castle: A complex of castles with a shrine: Himeji Castle in Hyogo is famous for its association with the Shinto deity Sanno Gongen, despite being primarily a castle. With its shrine, the castle complex offers a singular fusion of religious importance and architectural beauty, providing an enthralling window into Japan's blending of cultures.
7. Miyajima's Floating Wonder, Itsukushima Shrine: Known for its "floating" torii gate, Itsukushima Shrine is a UNESCO-listed landmark situated on stilts in the seas of Miyajima Island. With the Seto Inland Sea as a backdrop, the gate appears to be floating in water during high tide, producing an amazing and bizarre spectacle.
 8. Ise Grand Shrine: Shinto's Spiritual Center: Ise Grand Shrine donors Amaterasu, the sun goddess, and is regarded as the most revered Shinto shrine in all of Japan. Known as Shikinen Sengu, this complex of shrines in Ise City is rebuilt every 20 years to represent the unending rebirth of nature and life.
9. Kyoto's Zen Serenity, Ryoan-ji: The Zen rock garden of Ryoan-ji, a Zen Buddhist monastery in Kyoto, is well known for being a masterwork of peace and simplicity. The fifteen rocks and thoughtfully raked gravel encourage reflection and offer a calm haven from the busy city life.
10.Chic in Tochigi: Nikko Toshogu: This ornate temple honours Tokugawa Ieyasu, the shogunate's founder, and is tucked away in the Nikko highlands. The rich tapestry of Nikko Toshogu is enhanced by the elaborate carvings, striking colors, and holy stable containing the three wise monkeys.
Comprehensive examination of Japan's must-visit temples and shrines, it is clear that these revered locations are significant portals to the country's spirit as well as architectural marvels. From the modern Tokyo skyline to the historic lanes of Kyoto, these spiritual retreats welcome travelers to explore Japan's rich cultural history and find peaceful moments in the middle of the fast-paced modern world.
Getting a Japan visa is the first step towards discovering a wealth of spiritual and cultural treasures for anybody thinking about making the trek to these hallowed sites. Every holy step becomes a monument to the nation's enduring traditions and the peaceful blending of past and present, whether you are standing beneath the vermillion torii gates of Fushimi Inari Taisha or gazing at the golden brightness of Kinkaku-ji.
In addition to showcasing the country's architectural skills, Japan's temples and shrines serve as a link between tourists and the nation's spiritual center. They serve as a reminder that, despite the country's rapid technological advancements and modernization, Japan values its sacred places as a testament to its enduring cultural heritage. Thus, when you go out on a spiritual adventure that transcends time and makes a lasting impression on the soul, allow the echoes of prayers and the murmurs of old rites to lead you through these spiritual wonders.

May 28 - Asakusa and Fukugawa Edo Museum
Tumblr media
Today was Day 1 of the program! We first visited Asakusa shrine. It was beautiful. The architecture was stunning and enormous. It was far different from anything I have seen before. The outside of the shrine was lined with small vendors selling food, keychains, shoes, and so much more. The pathway to the main shrine was incredibly crowded as everyone scrambled around trying to visit the vendors or make their way up to the shrine. Once we made it, the inside of the shrine was incredible. It was filled with gold and intricate decorations that filled me with awe. We then split up for lunch and I got to try my first vegan restaurant in Tokyo! The food was excellent, but it took much longer than expected. We then traveled to Fukugawa Edo Museum. We got to see recreations of Edo buildings and tools/structures like a portable tea vendor shop, a food market, and a bar. The museum was also incredible. The museum employees were very knowledgable and gave us more information about each structure. My favorite part of the museum was the cat on the rooftop. Every few minutes, the cat would let out a sound to represent what it would really be like walking the streets of Edo.
The readings provided me with a much deeper understanding of buddhism. The reading delved into where it came from, how it developed and spread, and how the beliefs manifested and were understood/taught. In regards to the Asakusa shrine, I felt like I had an entirely different experience because of the related readings. Although I knew a small bit about buddhism, such as the concept of reincarnation, I knew very little about its beginnings and some of the more nuanced aspects of the faith. For example, the reading discussed the difference between an arhat and a bodhisattva. The readings also went into depth about the history of buddhism. Seeing as it began in China and spread from there was fascinating. It also left me thinking about how buddhism in the modern day relates to buddhism as it was in its beginnings. The readings about the Edo period were even more interesting to me. I did not realize the intricate nature of Edo period Japan’s social structures, such as how Ieyatsu required the daimyos to alternate their living between Edo and their own land, leaving their wife and children behind in Edo as, essentially, hostages. The reading allowed me to envision what life was like during those times, as well as the responsibilities of the workers in each of the different buildings.

the many lies of kanzaki hitomi to her long-suffering best friend uchida yukari
summary: when hitomi is on time to their weekend coffee time, yukari knows something is up.
notes: because I utterly adore escaflowne in ways that I don’t know if I can truly describe, and the wonderful @wuzzyletoastermac recently finished the show, I couldn’t not attempt a post-series write-up about...the best friend who’s only in four episodes. (I just love van and hitomi so much). G, hitomi and yukari friendship, van/hitomi mention. 1450 words.
---
Yukari knows it’s something big when Hitomi makes time to meet for coffee on a Saturday. Normally, Hitomi—best friend since forever, national track star at the age of 18, certified social worker, truly wonderful person, etc. etc.—is off with her long-distance boyfriend, or coaching track, or coaching track with her long-distance boyfriend looking pleasantly befuddled at the whole proceedings. On a rare occasion, she’ll ask Yukari for help getting Van into what can politely be termed “normal people clothes,” and Yukari can spend most of the afternoon puzzling over Van’s absolutely bizarre accent and failing to get either of them to tell her where exactly in Greece she can find someone as hot as Van Fanel.
Hitomi swears up and down that they started dating while she was doing a study abroad in Australia her second year of uni, but that doesn’t explain why the poor man 1: doesn’t speak English at least on par with an average high schooler’s cram school classes, and 2: doesn’t own a single pair of jeans not currently in residence in Hitomi’s closet. The Greeks aren’t that weird. Besides, half of Yukari’s architecture clients are based in America. She knows weird. And even by those standards, Van is weird.
Not to mention there’s some nagging part of Yukari’s brain that seems to recognize Van. It’s bothered her since they first met, and the last three years have done nothing to assuage that feeling. How silly to believe that they met in a dream or a vision. That is certainly more Hitomi’s realm.
But he loves Hitomi. It’s impossible to unsee that deep unending well of affection in his dark eyes, the soft smile that makes him look ages younger whenever she’s around, how patient he is even when she’s determined to find the perfect sweater for a job interview or the exact right cafe she claims was there the last time she was in this part of Asakusa. Occasionally, he’ll even catch her before she wanders too far afield, hand tight on her wrist in a way that speaks both to his own nerves wandering around in a crowded city (again, Hitomi went to uni in Sydney, why is Tokyo that much different) and to the way Hitomi turns back to him like a flower blooming in sunshine, all blushing cheeks and bright smile and alive in ways Yukari only wishes she could feel.
So Yukari’s a little jealous. It’s hard not to be. If it weren’t for the occasional argument blowing Hitomi’s temper sky high and Van’s own anger coming out in blistering tension, or the way that Hitomi will sometimes spend more time complaining about the weekend she’d had with him than bothering to answer any of Yukari’s questions about where exactly they’d met up, she’d worry that Van actually was perfect.
Okay well, no one she has to force into jeans against their will is perfect. Especially someone who looks like that.
So Yukari has kindly deigned to meet with her best friend at their favorite cafe on a beautiful Saturday morning, despite everything (Hitomi’s boyfriend and Yukari’s desire to sleep until 3pm respectively). Something’s off.
And when she rounds the corner at 10am on the dot, Kanzaki Hitomi is already there sipping a latte with Yukari’s favorite sitting there, still steaming. Hitomi is never on time. For anything. Ever. If she is, it’s because of her long legs and bizarre luck.
Something is definitely off.
“Yukari! I got you coffee,” she says, bright guileless grin on her face.
Yukari sits and sips. Sweet, caffeinated bliss. She almost forgives Hitomi the hour.
Not enough to loosen her suspicions, though. “Hitomi, what are you up to?” she says once her brain is active.
“Ah, well.” Hitomi casually brushes non-existent lint off her jacket sleeves. “I wanted to tell you something.”
“Is it about Van?” When her best friend’s face turns a bright pink, Yukari’s eyebrows rise. “Is he moving here?”
Head shake no. Hm.
“Did he finally take his jeans home?”
Deeper flush.
“Are you pregnant?”
“Yukari!” Hitomi screeches, face luminescent and voice far too loud for the little cafe. A few of the other patrons, including some who clearly have had as much sleep as Yukari, turn and glare at them, and Hitomi clasps hands over her own face. Yukari tries to not laugh, really. “I’m—no. And if you’re gonna be a jerk, I won’t invite you to my wedding.”
Any and all feelings of malicious annoyance vanish in an instant. “You’re—Hitomi! Congrats! That’s amazing, when are you getting married? Where are you getting married? If Van’s not moving here, does that mean you’re—where is he these days, is it going to be big or small? What should my dress look like? Do you have the colors picked out?”
Hitomi giggles through her fingers, a little on edge and clearly overwhelmed. “That’s too many questions!”
“I can write them out in a list and email them if you’d rather.”
A high-pitched whine more like a tea kettle than a woman in her mid-20s erupts out of Hitomi, and she drops her face to the table in her best impression of a puddle of melted ice cream. “I wanted to tell you properly, you know,” she mutters.
“You wouldn’t be you if you didn’t let it slip on accident,” Yukari says. As much fun as it is to mercilessly toy with her best friend who completely deserves it, there are more pressing matters, particularly Yukari’s own calendar that she is going to completely shuffle around. “But before I spend the next three hours getting you to spill every detail, at least tell me when and where.”
Without moving her face off the table, Hitomi rustles in her purse, pushing a pair of envelopes at Yukari. The first is a classic wedding invitation, cream colored envelope brushed with elegant black kanji. It’s exactly what Yukari would have expected from Hitomi’s mom, who has handled the years after her husband’s death with astonishing grace. But the second…
The parchment—it’s too thick to be paper, fibrous and off-white and flecked with gold—is about as wide as Yukari’s hands spread apart, and covered in a mix of runes and curling symbols that spread across the top of the invitation like wings. In the center of the whole thing is burnt a diamond-shaped emblem with a winged dragon. It doesn’t look like any Greek Yukari has ever seen.
“Would you be the host for my reception? It’s in a month and a half,” Hitomi is asking, which under any other circumstance would send Yukari into delighted peals of laughter. She’s a planner by nature, and organizing something as momentous as Hitomi’s small wedding will be worth every moment of her best friend and her boyfriend making sappy eyes at each other.
“Of course I will,” Yukari says, distracted. Social work doesn’t pay enough for an invitation this fancy, and Van can’t even afford his own clothes. And it’s not in Japanese, or English, and is that real gold? “What is this?”
Hitomi rubs nervous circles around her latte mug. “Since Van’s not from here, and the only person who can travel is his sister, we thought, you know. One wedding here for me, one there for him.”
“Sounds great,” Yukari says, turning the parchment upside down and over onto its back, hoping that the meaning will magically appear. “Hitomi, I can’t read this.”
“Oh, right. Sorry, Yukari.” Hitomi passes a hand over the parchment, the ring on her hand glimmering bright pink in the sun, and the runes curl and shift before Yukari’s eyes like…like magic. Yukari resists the urge to rub her eyes. Magic isn’t real. Just like dragons aren’t, or friends vanishing into pillars of light.
Your presence is requested at The marriage of Van of Fanelia and Hitomi Kanzaki White, 12th Moon Present invitation upon arrival
“It’s almost like a destination wedding!” Hitomi says. “Will you come? Please? Only Mom and my brother can come, and you know Sota hates this sort of thing.”
The things Yukari does for Hitomi. “Of course I will,” she says. But before Hitomi can relax too much, she reaches across the table and grabs her best friend’s hands, digging in just a little too hard. “But Hitomi, for once, don’t lie to me about this: where on earth is Van even from?”
Hitomi gives a little hiccup of a laugh and refuses to meet Yukari’s eyes. “So, funny story…”
——
“You owe me so much cake, Kanzaki Hitomi.”
“I promise, at least one at the wedding!”
“Each wedding.”

Can I request some fluff for Konro 😂
Hello anon! Thank you for requesting please stay safe ❤️
Tumblr media
Konro sat with his friend Benimaru having a serious conversation with him. He’s been troubled with himself and who else but Beni to notice.
“What do you mean you can’t tell her?”
“I just can’t Beni, I’ve got a good friendship with her and I don’t want to ruin it” Konro argued back. Currently they were talking about his love problems.
There was this girl who had a little market her father owned, and she worked there as well. Usually he would go everyday to buy something for brekfast. But Recelty you started to work there yourself.
He got to know you a little better and slowly started to fall for you. Now the small things made his heart skip a beat. The way you would wave to little kids, the way you admired the flowers when stocking. He desperately wanted to ask you on a date
But he was afriad he would drive you away.
“Oh come on how can you ruin it? Do you know how many women in Asakusa want you? How many of them have asked for you?” Beni chuckled sarcastically
“Okay but she’s different form al of them.” He said a bit defeated. The thought of being able to call you his, made butterflies flutter in his stomach. Of course you would give him the occasional hug after getting some help or a birthday gift, but he would charish then like it was gold.
“I mean come on you’re the opposite of me. I’m other words your not a “grumpy old man who doesn’t like sweets’ “ he said in air quotes.
Konro chuckles and says “maybe I’ll ask her out. We do have that firework show tomorrow night maybe I’ll take her to that”
Little did he know he had two pairs of mischievous eyes watching. Now if you’re thinking the wins are going to run over to you and tell you everything
...you’re absolutely right...
They heard the sound of giggling and the curtains flapping. Konro already knew who it was and his heart dropped.
“You better go after em before- oh you’re already gone” Beni said sipping his cup of tea.
Konro ran through the village excusing himself form anyone he bumped into. His eyes frantically searching for the twins. He though his heart was going to burst when he turned on the street of your store.
He saw your back facing him and he let out a breath. He started to approach you, only to then see you crouch down. Who else did you crouch down to but the girls. They were smiling and giggling and so were you.
He ran to you three to try and sweep up whatever they had said.
“I-I’m sorry for whatever trouble the twins may have cost you Y/N I-I...” he was a flustered mess. He could only imagine what they have told you
“Oh no they weren’t any trouble at all. But they did mentaron a few things” you placed your finger on your lip as if thinking deeply. “They told me that you were very kind, considerate, shy and quiet handsome” pink rusted his cheeks
“Did they really?” He raised a brow at you
You giggled “No they didn’t but, I think all that is true” you confessed
“Oh.....OOOH” he finally realized what you meant. He took you hands in his “so um would you like to um-“
You laid a kiss to his cheek “yes I would love to go see fireworks with you” so they really do tell you. Damn it
“Unless they haven’t told you already I Dow any to say somethings to you as well” you nodded for him to continue “I just want you to know that you’re the most beautiful, smart, kind, loving woman I’ve ever met. I-I would be an idiot not to fall for you” he scratched the back of his as he confessed what he felt for you
“Um so.. tomorrow at 7?” He asked with hopefull eyes. You nodded and gave him a hug. When you pulled away and started to walk off he tried to hold on to your hand as you walked away
“So, when’s the wedding?” The twins asked in unison.
“No sweets for a week” he simply said
“AWWH” they complained. He’s lucky he didn’t give them a month.
Here you go anon! I hope you liked this I thought it was really sweet ❤️❤️

Uchitama 7 - 8 | Eizouken 8 - 9 | ID: INVADED 8 - 11 | Iruma-kun 22 - 23 (FINAL) | BnHA 82 - 83
Uchitama 7
Lemme guess…this is the ve-Yep.
The name of this segment is Ottamake. The ke means fur/hair, but it does seem like it’s referring to Tama otherwise.
For some reason, Bull’s really into cats…
LOL, you can see the cat food right there is a real brand. I dunno how they got away with that.
Hmm, this show has something to say about idol business…and it does it better than some of the human idol shows! That says something.
It even comments on the “graduation” system. Whaddaya know.
Welp, I never thought an anime could pull off this with a commentary on gender presentation, to boot. (It’s not as pervasive as Stars Align’s, but it’s still one of the better ones. I guess I shouldn’t expect it as a norm though.) I thought Kai was a dude though and so Bull’s interactions came off to me as massively gay. I’ve been thinking, maybe he’s pan? Can dogs be pansexual???
Why do I get the feeling Kai is going to be introduced into 3-chome? Update: Doesn’t happen.
This song sounds very idol-like.
Uchitama 8
Aww…I feel like we’re going to learn Nora’s backstory soon. I think it’s going to be real sad.
…Yup, there goes my kokoro. Smol Nora is cute~!
Genki can mean “healthy” as well as “energetic” – the latter is why it’s translated as “spunky”.
Why do I get the feeling Nora’s owner died…?
Oh, smol Nora has a bandaid on his leg.
Let me ask the essential furry question – they hav human ears and animal ears. Which of those sets of ears do they hear with?
Yuuki Kaji does a good job as Nora.
This song’s so sad, it almost got me crying…
Eizouken 8
This anime is like something from Studio Trigger!
The magic of Eizouken is that you get sucked into the anime they make and never look back.
Tomodachi vs. nakama, I think it is.
Id: Invaded 8
Lately, I’ve been thinking about practical cosplay (everyday wear that also doubles as a cosplay outfit). So basically, I’ve been thinking about Sakaido and El-Melloi II’s outfits a lot, since they’re rather practical while still looking cool. All I’m missing for El-Melloi’s outfit with the red jacket is a black button-up shirt, for El-Melloi’s outfit with the black jacket I’m missing a red scarf and I’m missing a brown button-up shirt for Sakaido’s (although the yellow scarf I got today to get one step closer to two of those isn’t the right mustard colour, it’s more of a lighter yellow).
Also, I noticed it’s (according to the katakana) meant to be “Id: Invaded”, but heck, it’s been ID: Invaded for so long for me, I don’t care either way.
Kiki was born in Fukui.
I always thought Mister Fixer sounded sad and now I think I know why…the bit I remember the most (the line that goes “Mister Fixer” and the bit around it) sounds like the singer is lamenting their life. Now that I see the visuals again after a few weeks (I’d get fatigued if I watched all that Fate/ and still managed to keep up with simulcasts, so I’ve been taking the simulcasts in a few eps at one time), Mister Fixer does quite sound like a crime drama song, but not as much as Thought I Knew (from Stand My Heroes).
I’ve seen images of Anaido and Sakaido in the same well for a few weeks now, so this cooperation bit is no surprise at all.
I believe Fukuda is asking why Narihisago is a –san to her even though they’ve worked together a while.
The words “data profile” are in one corner of the titlecard.
Does Anaido remember who he is in the ID Well? I presume not, but it’s hard to tell since we haven’t had as much time with him as we have Sakaido (not to mention I’ve been regularly filling my head with Fate/ and other things as well lately…so it’s hard to remember).
It’s interesting. Fukuda has the same piercings as Anaido (and even a ring on one pointer finger that matches them!), so he must’ve tried experimenting with…more legal holes, to put it one way…before getting his most iconic one.
Kaeru’s nails are chipped. Hmm.
In #Brake-Broken, which I read the first chapter of earlier (there’s a sample on the Young Ace website), Sakaido notices he doesn’t have a phone with him to call anyone or a licence (because in that manga, he wakes up in a car). It’s likely this will work the same way and Anaido won’t have any possessions on him, aside from the clothes on his back, accessories and the item that was stolen from his wrist/s.
Rings on both fingers…so I should be talking about them in plural. Update: I like how Anaido’s off-the-wall thought processes break up the inherent seriousness of Sakaido’s deductions and utilitarian way of doing things.
Anaido, you grimdark f***er. Update: For trying to eat a dead girl.
Okay, so for the sake of my practical cosplay, I knew I’d need this episode. Sakaido wears a long-sleeve brown shirt with some kind of shirt under that (either brown or black), plus a mustard-coloured scarf. (Note El-Melloi II wears a black shirt under his black button-up shirt, so I went with black as well.) In Brake Broken, I also noticed he wears dark socks (or that could be the leggings) and runners with a lightning bolt on them (I had to make do with generic black runners with a white stripe on the bottom), plus the iconic brown shorts over those (with a triangle pattern)…Why does Sakaido have a scarf anyway, versus Anaido and Miyo who don’t? As much as I like scarves, especially where colder weather is involved, getting a specific colour scarf was a bit of a headache to be honest, since I took 3 trips before deciding on the one I was going to buy (and even then, someone got it before me! The scarf I have now was my 2nd choice). Update: The shorts, leggings and undershirt are black, but I don’t know if Sakaido is wearing any socks or if they’re black too.
Just to note what Anaido has as well (although a coat like that, with the red detailing and flaps, would be hard to find…), he has a blue coat, suspenders, a white button-up top, a string tie (had to google what that was called, although its name is pretty obvious now that I know), black pants (which kinda look like leggings, but they’re not) and leather boots.
Now Sakaido can go into the loony bin…he’s talking to Kaeru.
Is Anaido going in circles? Sakaido caught up real fast…
Um, hey, protip: When stuck in quicksand, try to “float” on it. If you move, you’ll sink into it more. I don’t know how I know that, but I did stick it into my mind for times like this.
Notably, Anaido is about a head taller than Sakaido. Either Sakaido is unnaturally short and Anaido is average…or Anaido is just tall in that way some men are.
Did the bird get to this dude…?
There appears to be a man with a bun facing Hondomachi in the ED, although you can’t tell who it is from silhouette alone…Maybe he hasn’t appeared in the show yet. (Can’t be Matsuoka though. Might be the old guy who’s the head of Kura, actually.)
Update: Is the dead guy Momoki…?
Id: Invaded 9
It’s the familiar ceiling scene from Evangelion! (Okay, I’m kidding, but it’s a similar deal.)
I think the rules of Fate/ are “do it all, until you can no longer do it” (i.e. Everything is the same, until it’s different). It seems it’s the same here too.
Huh? Momoki?
“It doesn’t seem friendly.” – Yeah, and people die whe they are killed…in murder mysteries like this, usually speaking.
I noticed Narihisago’s tie is the same colour as his Sakaido jacket, if not the shirt under that.
Where did the Challenger’s clothes go after he took them off??? Hyperspace??? He wasn’t shown tossing them.
So Kaeru was Asukai all along, huh?
“Look at this.”
“It makes me think about him.” Subbers, that’s two mistakes in less than 1 minute…
I saw a fanart where Narihisago had his arm broken. I didn’t know why, but now I do. Also, TV Tropes is bad if you want to avoid spoilers…I know that already, but I go there anyway sometimes...
“It makes me wanna puke.”
Iruma-kun 22
The anime’s final episode is next week…but there’s already a season 2 in store for next year, so hopefully I survive the coronavirus and sort out all my issues this year in time for it.
Dat OP though. I’ve grown used to it and it’s actually endeared itself to me…which is odd, since I didn’t think I’d like it at first.
Demdol = akudol. Obviously, from “demon”.
Was that…Clara’s mother???  Kuromu’s older bro doesn’t look too bad, either.
Ohmygosh, this is fabulousssssssssss (and hilarious)! I’ve been waiting for this moment for many episodes, as you can tell if you’ve been following along, and I finally got the payoff!
Clara ends her sentence with –akuma (devil), hence the translation is matching it the same way.
Oh my gosh, Ryouhei Kimura (Azz-kun) sucks at being feminine, but that’s exactly what the role requires for this!
If you just pretend Azz-kun isn’t dressed in such an outlandish outfit, he looks really good…! Ayumu Murase does a pretty good falsetto, although you can tell there’s one point where Kimura’s voice gets really manly-sounding for a lady.
“Little imp” – Koakuma.
Oh! The Keroli family is all cute.
Ooh, Kuromu’s nails are blue. Never noticed that before.
Eizouken 9
Chojugiga are ancient pictures normally depicting animals. As for sepak takraw…
I wonder if Eizouken will tackle the Manabi Line one day…?
That’s a parallel for Comiket, LOL.
“A colossus that no one can see!” – Gridman, is that you?
When did Kanamori meet Asakusa again…?
Kanamori with a bun is cool.
“There is nothing fun about social media!” – Well, social media is fun for me because it’s where I escape reality, but sometimes you gotta be like Kanamori and use it for publicity’s sake.
LOL, the username for the Eizouken is @eizoukenn.
I just realised Mizusaki’s hairstyle is irregular…it’s much longer on on side than the other.
“Mizusaki bump” – I think this references the Colbert bump. (TV Tropes link)
Kanamori – she with the word “gold”…or “money”…in her name – struggles with maths? Wow, that was something to hear. (I guess it’s kinda like me and IT (cybersecurity) – I suck at it because I suck at modulos…or division in short…and even though I can be found on my computer a lot, that’s why I don’t pursue it any longer. I was decent at accounting, but man, I’d be bored out of my brain if you made me do business IT and I have zero skills in games and multimedia.)
“Was it thuggery?” – What’s thuggery? That word sounds funny.
Did you see how Asakusa fell off the tank?
I did CR’s Eizouken quiz sometime in the past and it gave me Asakusa. That’s true, basically. I like thinking up ideas and how cool they are, but because I can’t stop from elaborating on them, they get out of hand and that’s why I have a tonne of dropped projects. (Then again, with how freely I can imagine motion, I could’ve gotten Mizusaki too.) Update: Tried again and I actually did get Mizusaki…whaddaya know.
Id: Invaded 10
People have been comparing this to Minority Report…now I see why.
I almost feel like this is a discussion of euthanasia and suicide as much as it is memory and the consciousness.
Ohh…she remembers! Hondomachi!
You can’t see Muku’s face! Ohh, scary!
Aww, the music really sold this montage. By the way, that sign didn’t say “entrance ceremony”, it said nyuugaku omedetou, “Congratulations on your entry [into school]”.
It…this singer almost sounds like Bruno Mars, but that would be basically impossible, no?
Oh my gosh…when the song swelled, I absolutely cried. That’s rare, man – that’s rare.
BnHA 82
I think the leftmost figure might be Miruko, the rabbit lady. I’ve never read anything about her outside of wiki pages ad other small spoilers, but I roughly know what she looks like.
What does Gentle mean by “Anglaise”? Surely it wouldn’t refer to cream…(crème anglaise)
LOL, Disneyland parades…
Whew…that was dangerous. I almost agreed with Mineta there (to get the festival over and done with).
I swear Midoriya gets together with All Might, just like this, at the end or start of a climactic arc. He did it in the last season of BnHA, remember?
BnHA 83
Hmm…It’s interesting that the author likes to point out who has and hasn’t met Eri. Then again, it’s good for consistency.
LOL, Amajiki my boy…you’re so relatable.
Hmm…amidst the coronavirus concerns…this cancellation business seems quite timely.
Oh! It’s a drone.
For some reason, I thought Sero was drinking vegetable juice…? Eh, no matter. They have vegetable juice in Japan – I remember seeing some on my trip.
Hmm? Gentle is like a phantom thief, I just realised. Mostly harmless, but bound to cause a big stir if he gets his way.
What is Gentle’s Quirk, anyway…?
Work Son…LOL(…?)
Who bets their moustache on this stuff, anyway…? (LOL)
Iruma 23 (FINAL)
I don’t get to see Iruma become evil this season…but he will next season! That visual I’ve been seeing by the original mangaka confirms it!
Marathon - the demon puns are back.
Demonicon =Oricon chart.
Demon Star Platinum…was that…a Jojo’s reference?! *scare chord*
Oh! Maguro (tuna).
Azz-kun being afraid of fish? That’s news to me.
Okay, subbers. Whose idea was it to translate Iruma’s words as “My feels…”…?
There’s a post-credits segment. Keep watching.
Yay! Evil Iruma-kun!...In spring 2021. (I’ve never once been so excited for a character to turn evil than this! I also like how evil Iruma said it’s the “buttcrack” of dawn…but that’s just my immature side showing.)
Id: Invaded 11
“…being taken for a ride!” – Well, you’re in a car, so you’re getting a ride nonetheless. (LOL) I hadn’t heard of the term “being taken for a ride” until…what? 2016, I think? When I was still doing language anaylsis.
Sakaido used Headbutt! It’s…kind of effective? (Writing up these pseudo-Pokémon battles is fun. I should write more.)
“…put a drill to your head…”
“The victims of John Walker’s serial killers…”
I noticed Hondomachi is touching the side of her head which had the hole in it…if I remembered it right.
Is it “the Kura”? Or just Kura?
August 15th is a popular date for anime, huh? It’s in the middle of summer. (Refers to Kagerou Project.)
That ‘who knew you needed to lose something to be complete’ thing…I think I get it, but for some reason I only ever seem to get that feeling when it’s me trying to read asexuality into things (since that’s how I learnt to interpret asexuality), so…yeah, way to go, me.
Wait…Togo visited Momoki’s bedroom?!
Yep, so I was right about that being the side with Hondomachi’s hole.

MAY 2019 GOLD STAR MEDIA SCHEDULES & REVIEW
Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of May 31 KST:
A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly total).
A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on their monthly schedule.
Threads do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.
These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.
Overall Company
Most of Gold Star’s artists are busy this month, meaning a good boost to the start of second quarter profits. This is good since Gold Star is at the top right now and intends to keep it that way. Idols under the company will have some early fittings with stylists for the planned company concert in a few months, but the purpose is mostly to make sure the initial design plans will be flattering to everyone
Important dates
Various dates: Early company concert fittings.
Gold Star Soloist 1
One festival is all she has on the public schedule front this month, but behind the scenes, plans are being finalized for the release of her next album, which means a lot of meetings and studio time as songs get approved and rejected and concepts fall into place to tie everything together.
Important dates:
May 3: Yonsei University Festival performance (also performing: Lipstick, Dimensions Soloist 1, Femme Fatale, and Lucid).
Gold Star Soloist 2
Comeback preparations continue for her first album in quite a while. Fans are growing restless, but she’s only been given the go ahead to tease a possible comeback so far, not confirm it, so Gold Star hopes her two performances this month will tie them over until her approaching solo concert and her long awaited comeback.
Important dates:
May 4: Performance at K-Pop Big Five Concert at Mitsubishi Electric Halle in Düsseldorf, Germany (also performing: Element and Silhouette).
May 17: Sungkyunkwan University Festival performance (also performing: WISH).
Gold Star Soloist 3
This month, he’ll be continuing the Asia leg of his tour in Thailand and Bangkok. Management is already talking about a late summer comeback in the midst of his touring, though nothing is completely set in stone yet.
Important dates:
May 11: I COLOR U concert at The Bazaar Theater in Bangkok, Thailand.
May 26: I COLOR U concert at Asakusa Bashi Hulic Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
May 31: Korea University Festival performance (also performing: Aria and Femme Fatale).
Silhouette
Japanese tour prep continues this month as well as very early recordings for the Japanese album they’re slated to release in the third quarter of the year. Silhouette is, as always, a popular choice for university festival season due to their popularity with college-aged students, so they’ve been scheduled for several of those as well.
Important dates:
May 4: Performance at K-Pop Big Five Concert at Mitsubishi Electric Halle in Düsseldorf, Germany (also performing: Gold Star Soloist 2 and Element).
May 13: Namseoul University Festival performance.
May 17: Konkuk University Festival performance (also performing: Femme Fatale).
May 24: Ajou University Festival performance.
Aria
This month, Aria will be recording their special July comeback single. There isn’t a lot of pressure for the comeback to deliver monetarily since it’s more of a release to keep Aria present in the music scene and Gold Star is doing very well financially right now. Their only public schedule is a university festival performance, but members are encouraged to keep in touch with fans and pursue individual activities to keep Aria’s brand power up.
Important dates:
May 31: Korea University Festival performance (also performing: Femme Fatale and Gold Star Soloist 3).
Origin
Origin begins the month in the US for the Billboard Music Awards before returning to Seoul to complete their promotional activities for this comeback, including fan signs and a lot of long music show pre-recordings and live shows. They’ll be pre-recording performances for the last week and a half or so of their music show promotions as well before they leave to return to the US on the morning of the 14th to kick off their stadium tour. They’re scheduled for a lot of miscellaneous promo recording between their concert dates, too, and their next album is already in the works as well as preparations for their upcoming fan meetings in Seoul and Busan next month.
Important dates:
May 1: Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
May 7: Pre-recording performance for The Voice (to be aired May 21).
May 9: Fansign in Yangcheon, Seoul.
May 10: Fansign in Mapo, Seoul.
May 11: Fansign in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul.
May 12: Fansign in Mapo, Seoul.
May 15: Good Morning America Summer Concert Series performance in Central park in New York, NY, USA.
May 15: Appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert (to be aired: May 15 and May 17).
May 18: Speak Yourself Stadium Tour concert at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA, USA.
May 19: Speak Yourself Stadium Tour concert at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA, USA.
May 25: Speak Yourself Stadium Tour concert at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL, USA.
May 26: Speak Yourself Stadium Tour concert at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL, USA.
May 26: End of music show promotions.
May 31: Appearance on Britain’s Got Talent Semi-Finals.
Impulse
The members will be in Japan from May 11 to May 22 for their tour and some light Japanese promotions like magazine interviews and some networking within the Japanese industry. After they return, they go straight into beginning to prepare and record for their summer comeback album.
Important dates:
May 14: Road 2 U tour concert at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.
May 15: Road 2 U tour concert at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.
May 18: Road 2 U tour concert at Kobe World Memorial Hall in Kobe, Japan.
May 19: Road 2 U tour concert at Kobe World Memorial Hall in Kobe, Japan.
Fuse
Most of the month is spent on their North American tour, but the members will return to Seoul for a short time from May 17 to May 23 to perform at the 2019 Dream Concert. During that time, they’ll also be in the studio recording final touches on the Japanese single “Sayonara” they’re releasing next month and recording some vocals for their summer Korean comeback.
Important dates:
May 9: Redmare tour concert at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
May 10: Redmare tour concert at The Theatre at Grand Prairie in Dallas, TX, USA.
May 12: Redmare tour concert at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
May 15: Redmare tour concert at Filmore Miami Beach in Miami, Florida, USA.
May 18: Performance at 2019 Dream Concert at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Seoul, South Korea (also attending: CHARM, 7ROPHY)
May 24: Redmare tour concert at Chicago Theatre in Chicago, Il, USA.
May 26: Redmare tour concert at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ, USA.
May 28: Redmare tour concert at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Canada.
May 30: Redmare tour concert at PNE Forum in Vancouver, Canada.
Element
The pressure for their comeback this month to perform well is incredibly clear because, as it stands, a comeback takes more more from the company than it gives back to them and Gold Star can only milk their international fanbases with occasional concerts so much. Everyone, including managers and coordis, know that the stakes are high and that this single needs to show some sign of improvement within the domestic market.
Important dates:
May 4: Performance at K-Pop Big Five Concert at Mitsubishi Electric Halle in Düsseldorf, Germany (also performing: Gold Star Soloist 2 and Silhouette).
May 15: Release of “Bomb Bomb” & showcase, promotions continue until June 15.
May 17: Guesting on KBS Cool FM radio show.
May 20: Guesting on Arirang Radio Super K-Pop radio show.
May 26: Performance at Hallyu PopFest Singapore (also performing: 7ROPHY, Alien, and Knight).
May 27: Guesting on Arirang Radio Sound K radio show.
Femme Fatale
Femme Fatale are one of the most in-demand groups for this year’s spring university festivals and despite Gold Star’s approach of keeping an exclusive image for the group thus far, the company has taken advantage of the high demand and booked the group for a number of festivals to remind the general public that might not already be fans of their existence before their comeback next month. Behind the scenes, this is the last month for recording for the album and learning choreography.
Important dates:
May 3: Yonsei University Festival performance (also performing: Lipstick, Gold Star Soloist 1, Dimensions Soloist 1, and Lucid).
May 17: Konkuk University Festival performance (also performing: Silhouette).
May 23: Hanyang University Festival performance (also performing: Lucid).
May 31: Korea University Festival performance (also performing: Aria and Gold Star Soloist 3).

Meet Hanabi Teiiro (呈色花火), a BNHA oc to replace the rotten grape. Hanabi is genderfluid with pronouns changing depending on accessories: bracelet on right wrist = they/them and earrings = she/her. I will default to she/her pronouns in this post. The kanji for Hanabi’s last technically is teishiki, which translates out to “color”, but I changed it to make it sound cooler. Hanabi is the owner of the Light Show quirk (which can be found under the tags ‘quirk ideas’ or 'hanabi teiiro’), and her hero name is Matsuri. She was born July 27th and grew up in Asakusa. Her mother is a retired hero after a scandal ruined her career who now works an office job and her father is a former minor villain who stays home. Her mother’s quirk is Color Change, a Transformation quirk that allowed her to change the color of herself or somebody else to match the surroundings, much like a chameleon, but only as long as she stays in contact with some part of the surroundings. Her father’s quirk is White Light, an Emitter quirk that allowed him to create balls of white light that could then be used to create a weak expolosion or as a flashbang. Hanabi is 4'9 and 100lbs, she’s pansexual, and she tends to dress in either rainbow Decora/fairy kei fashion, Sweet Lolita fashion, or anything paired with an oversized and colorful, usually patterned, jacket. She loves parfaits and fruit milk. Her hair is supposed to be strawberry blond and her eyes are supposed to be gold, but those colors weren’t easy to mimic in the dollmaker used, which was made by Rinmaru.

📍Shinjuku, Tokyo One of the fun things about Tokyo is the fact that it’s so large and yet so diverse, with most areas overflowing with people who all have to make do with a tiny place to live, work and exist. That might not sound so appealing initially, but hear me out… Every area has a distinct atmosphere with different types of people walking the streets. And no matter where you go or what you do, every day there’s an opportunity to see, hear, experience, taste or do something you have never done before! You never know… people might dress up as swans and start a mock fight in the middle of shibuya crossing! (Saw that once) or two guys dressed top to bottom in shimmering gold will start interviewing people in the middle of Asakusa (had that happen) or you might accidentally wander into a local festival at a shrine and watch a puppet show, acrobatics, a monkey performing tricks or a noh play. Tokyo is full of surprises and I would advise anyone traveling to Japan to take their time to get to know this wonderful city that I called “home” for 10 years close up with one of our local resident expert guides! 🗣👉 Don’t forget to book your experienced local award winning guide through Tokiotours if you are planning to come to Japan! www.tokiotours.nl ❤️♥️ 📸: @Ebi_times ⤴︎ Share ⤴︎ ⤴︎ Welcome #tokiotours #tokyo_pref #wonderful_places #travelphotographer #cityview #taxi #旅行 #traveltheworld #traveljapan #旅行好き #tokyo #tokyotravel #japan #travel #dailylife #travelinjapan #日本 #nighttime #beautifuljapan #visitjapan #japanpics #night #city #cityphotography #japanrevealed #nightphoto #japantravel #japantrip (at Shinjuku) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZh476VKMML/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sai pulled on a pair of latex gloves. Snapping them over his wrists. He sized up Madara’s still body, glanced back at Sakura.
“Would you be mad if I dismantled this here, Boss?” he asked.
“Yes,” Tenten immediately responded. She reached for the chilled bottle of champagne. Took a gulp directly from it. Licked the light fizz from her upper lip. Sai shrugged.
“Well, then I can’t do anything with this until we close the club,” he declared.
“You should go. We have a long night ahead of us,” Sakura remarked to Itachi. And when Itachi lifted his chin toward her, she pressed her pointer finger to his lips. Stopping him.
“Ah-ah. Still poisonous. Next time, leng zai,” she promised against his ear. She slipped out of his lap, crossing the room. And when she pushed her fist against what looked like a panel on the wall, it opened up to reveal a small bathroom. She hit the faucet. Water streamed into the sink. She began scrubbing her fingers clean with plenty of soap.
Heaving a sigh, Itachi got to his feet. He reached into his jacket for his phone.
“Looks like I have a busy night too,” he muttered, calling Kisame.
Despite Itachi’s protests, Sakura insisted on being very honest about how Uchiha Madara had died. Word spread quickly. Because while no one could claim Madara as a friend, it was certainly concerning that a triad had killed a yakuza. And a high-ranking one at that. There were meetings amongst the biggest groups. Several fists smashing tables.
“Come on, Boss. Especially after what happened? This is our chance to take out that bitch. Once and for all,” one of the Inuzuka-kai’s newer recruits said. Hands fisted at his sides.
Kiba’s left hand twitched. Dead center was a pink circle of scar tissue. The skin shiny and raised. The muscles still didn’t move the way they were supposed to. And the doctors warned that they might never.
But still, Inuzuka Kiba was quiet as he stared out the window. His right hand rested on his cheek. The scar matching the one on his left.
“If she were that easy to get rid of, I would have done it a long time ago,” Kiba finally said.
Ultimately, when the fifth head of the Uchiha-gumi remained silent on the matter, there wasn’t much anyone else could do.
Sai hosed down the floor of the empty warehouse. Whistling a tune from an old Hong Kong opera as the red water swirled down the drain.
“Hey Boss?” he suddenly said, turning.
“Hm?” she replied. She bit through a piece of hard candy. Scattering the gold pieces across her tongue. Sai held his mouth open. Sighing, she unwrapped another piece and tossed it underhand to him. He caught it between his teeth, smirking as he drew it into his mouth.
“What do you want?” she prompted, cheek in her hand. Glaring down at him from the scaffolding.
“What would you have done? If the Kumicho had said no? Made you let Madara go?” Sai inquired. Tucked the candy into his cheek. He turned the knob. It squeaked as it cut off the flow to the hose. Water dribbling in spurts before it went quiet. And then he looked back at her, one hand on his hip.
Sakura stared at him. For a moment, her face was blank. And then she turned away.
“He wouldn’t have,” she simply said. A plastic bag rustled. When she turned back to him, she had a cigarette pinched between two fingers.
“But if he did?” Sai insisted.
Sakura dug in her pocket for her lighter. Rolled it over in her palm. Feeling the cool weight of the metal. Lifting the cigarette to her lips, she lit it. The taste of ash spreading across her tongue.
“I’d still do whatever the hell I want,” she answered.
The new year was busy in Tokyo. Shrines were crowded with visitors huddled together for warmth. The streets were oddly dark. Storefronts black and empty as people closed up for the short holiday at the beginning of January.
Itachi spent New Year’s eve in front of the television, Sasuke’s head in his lap. Every year, the little boy fought to stay awake until midnight. And every year, he lost the battle. Itachi’s patted Sasuke’s head. The TV flashing with bright lights and filling the room with pre-recorded laughter. Behind him, he could hear Kisame and Sasori playing cards under the kotatsu.
Sasuke stirred a little. Itachi glanced down at his pale face. Listening to the distant clinks as his mother prepared tea. And for a moment, he couldn’t help but wonder what Sakura was doing on a night like this..
“Is that why you’ve been making that face all night, Godaime?” Sasori chuckled when Itachi finally asked. He grabbed his phone, made some calls and typed out a couple texts.
A few minutes later, the table vibrated. Sasori’s screen lighting up. His lower lip jutted out.
“Huh. That’s odd,” he remarked.
“What is?” Kisame asked. He leaned over to pluck another card from the deck. Shuffled them around in his massive hands.
“Boys say they spotted her getting into a limo near Asakusa a few hours ago. Haven’t seen her since,” Sasori read. Kisame made a face too.
“Low profile isn’t exactly her thing. That’s weird,” he declared.
“I mean... if I killed an oyabun- and a famous one at that- I’d keep my head down too,” Sasori pointed out. And he flicked a card down onto the table. Kisame grimaced.
Itachi placed his palm over Sasuke’s ear.
“You two,” he growled.
Kisame raised both his hands.
“Sorry. Forgot waka was here. We’ll stop,” he apologized. Sasori rested his chin on the back of his hand, staring at Sasuke snoozing away. His gaze flickered up to Itachi.
“Your father never hid what he was. Waka is going to have to learn too, someday,” Sasori pointed out. He rubbed his chin. The scorpion tattooed on his wrist peeked out from under his sleeve as he moved. Itachi patted Sasuke’s head. Feeling how fine his hair was. And Sasuke’s little fist curled over his thigh.
“Not today, though,” answered Itachi.
Gathering Sasuke into his arms, Itachi went to put his baby brother to bed. Tucking him under the covers. Patting his back for a long time. Until he was sure that Sasuke wouldn’t have any bad dreams that night.
The following night, there was still no word about Sakura. And then the next. And the next.
Two weeks passed without a single word from her. Without her being spotted anywhere, really.
“Maybe she’s in Hong Kong. Isn’t she always going back and forth?” Kisame suggested, puffing on his cigar. Sasori shook a die around in his cupped fist. He tossed it onto the desk. Smoke filled the room and Sasori swatted in front of his face, scowling. Snatched it up again.
“Would’ve spotted her at the airport. There’s just... nothing,” Sasori countered. His phone buzzed and he was distracted as he read the message.
Itachi tapped his knuckle against the desk. His black eyes hard as he half-listened to their conversation. He let out a sharp sigh. Something he was doing more and more these days.
“Have you called her, Aniki? Don’t you say she always picks up for you?” suggested Kisame.
“It goes straight to voicemail,” Itachi retorted. Voice tight. Kisame’s eyes narrowed.
“You sound worried,” he commented. Teeth closing around the end of the cigar as he grinned.
“Maybe she wants you to chase her,” Sasori commented. Both men turned to look at him. He was examining his nails, curling his fingers into his palm. And when he looked at them, he held up his phone.
“Deidara says that he hasn’t seen Haruno-san. But he says that he met up with her number two in Tsukiji a couple hours ago,” he explained.
“Deidara is one of hers. Why the hell would he tell you that?” Kisame wondered.
Itachi’s eyes locked with Sasori’s, who shook his phone again.
“Like I said. Maybe she wants you to chase her,” he said again.
“Boss is busy,” Tenten said without looking up at him half an hour later. She lowered her cigarette. Squinting against the cold as she exhaled. The wind stole the smoke from her lips.
They stood outside Tsukiji Fish Market. The stalls out front were bustling with residents and tourists alike. It was just as busy inside. Leaning against the side of the building towards the back, Tenten had flagged him down. The people walking past were burdened with boxes of fresh seafood on ice. Their breath huffing out in the cold. They were much too busy to pay attention to the two people standing there.
Itachi put his hands in his pockets.
“I can’t help but feel like she’s making fun of me now,” he muttered, mostly to himself.
“Why’s that?” Tenten asked. Her gaze drifted around. She exhaled again in a long stream. Itachi studied her expression for a long time. She had always made it more than clear that she didn’t particularly want to talk to him. At least, not more than necessary.
Still, he knew that probably no one knew Sakura better than her trusted her number two. At least, no one still living. So he took the bait.
“I get that she doesn’t trust me. That’s not exactly conducive to our line of work. But sending me on a wild goose chase is a bit juvenile,” he ground out. Scrutinizing Tenten’s expression for any clue. Just something he could glean.
Tenten shot him a look. “You’re not too bright, are you, Kumicho?” she remarked. Laughing a little. Her nose was turning red from the cold. She lifted her hand to rub at it a little.
Itachi lifted his head, eyes narrowing.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” he questioned. But Tenten had seen and dealt with much worse. She wasn’t intimidated by his stare.
“Boss mentioned to me that you liked the view from her penthouse? What’d you see?”  she queried. Somewhat abruptly. That made Itachi pause.
“...Victoria Peak? Trees? Why do you ask?”
Tenten exhaled through her nostrils. She scuffed at the ground with the side of her foot.
“I’ve known Boss for almost 15 years now. And I don’t even fucking know where that penthouse is. I don’t know what road it’s on. What color the building is,” Tenten explained. And it sounded like she was almost laughing at herself.
“I’ve got access to all her car keys and even some of her bank accounts. But that penthouse... I don’t think anyone else has been in there besides her. Except for you.” Her eyes were unfocused. Staring off at something far off.
“If I have to explain it any more to you, then you’re stupider than I thought,” she added, almost laughing again. She lowered her cigarette, tapping the ash onto the asphalt.
Itachi watched two men drive a cart past. The back stacked with styrofoam boxes, probably filled with live sea creatures. They turned the corner, heading into the market.
Tenten rubbed her mouth with her sleeve.
“I don’t know what your intentions are, Kumicho. Frankly, you’re even harder to read than her,” she said, arms folded across her chest. And then her gaze flickered to him. Focusing. Sharpening. Like the iris of an old-fashioned camera adjusting to the light.
“But I also don’t know what she’s planning with you. And that’s a lot scarier, in my opinion,” Tenten added.
Dropping her cigarette, she ground it out under the heel of her boot.
“You don’t trust your own boss?” Itachi asked. She arched an eyebrow at him.
“I’m different. I know what she’s planning with me. But let me tell you something good, Kumicho. Since I don’t hate you,” Tenten said. She held up two fingers. “Boss is really only loyal to two things in this world: money and power.” She counted off on those fingers as she spoke. And then she pointed at him.
“Maybe since you have both, she’ll be loyal to you too. For a while, at least.”
She pulled a slip of paper from inside her jacket. And any warmth it might have retained from her body was whisked away by the wind. Itachi pinched his fingers around it. On it was a phone number with an extension scrawled on the end.
He looked back at her.
“Do you resent her?” he questioned.
For the first time, he saw something like surprise spread across her face. Eyes widening. Before that gaze sharpened again. Like she was calculating something.
“She’s my best friend. You don’t become that close to something without coming to hate them just a little,” she replied. Smile flickering briefly before the icy wind seemed to steal that away too.
And with that, Tenten pushed off the wall to disappear back inside.
Itachi lay awake that night. Eyes wide open like a madman. Hands clenching at the comforter. He called the number at almost three in the morning. She didn’t sound tired at all.
“Wei?”
He thought he heard jazz music in the background.
“Did I interrupt something?” he inquired.
“No. Just drinking wine. Trying to fall asleep before the damn sun comes up,” she sighed.
“Having trouble sleeping?”
“Don’t you?” asked Sakura in return.
He sat up. Turning his head to look out the window. The sky was pitch black.
It was strange. How the conversation flowed like water down a stream. No hitches. No awkward pauses.
“Where are you right now?”
The clink of glass hitting a surface. She sighed. “The Archipelago.”
“Why are you at a hotel?” questioned Itachi.
“Just in case someone comes looking for me in my sleep. I’m not exactly popular in Tokyo at the moment,” she replied.
It was different for him. He had the Uchiha-gumi compound. Guarded 24/7. Highly secure. For someone like Sakura who operated independently, he knew that she would have several safehouses. The one in Shiba was definitely just one of the many places she owned. Probably bought under shell corporations and untraceable aliases.
A luxury hotel like the Archipelago was much safer. With security cameras and staff on duty, someone was less likely to try to attack her.
“Why? Do you want to come join me?” she asked. And before he could respond, she added, “Ask for Takeko Nakano at the front desk.” The call disconnected with a click.
Itachi sat. Staring numbly in the darkness. His phone still held up to his ear. Rubbing his hand through his hair, he sighed.
“What the hell am I doing?” he asked himself as he got to his feet.
The security staff didn’t let him into the lobby until they called up to the room first.
“Takeko-san? You have a visitor,” the burly guard said into the receiver. He listened, mouth set in a tight line. Nodding every once in a while.
“I understand. Have a good night, ma’am,” he uttered before he hung up. His eyes skimmed over Itachi in his sunglasses and black leather gloves.
“Floor 22. Suite 3,” the guard told him with obvious reluctance. And Itachi almost scoffed. If only he knew that the supposed Miss Takeko was just as dangerous as he was. If not more.
The gold muzzle of Sakura’s pistol answered him through the crack in the door. Her eye staring out above it. The door snapped shut. He heard the chain and the locks disengaging. It swung open again.
Itachi stepped inside the suite. The private suites in the Archipelago were rumored to be one of the most beautiful places to stay in Tokyo. And as he stared around the place, he could see that the rumors weren’t founded on untruths.
The foyer opened up into a dining room. Floor to ceiling windows showed off a view of Tokyo’s skyline. There were so many doors leading to so many places that it was almost hard to believe that this was a hotel room. When he peeked into one of the doorways, he found a kitchen. Another was a coat room. To the right of the dining room was a living room.
Stepping out of his shoes, he unwound the scarf from around his neck. The babble of a television played from somewhere deeper in the suite. It suddenly cut off.
Sakura padded out of the door to the left of the dining room. Her gold Desert Eagle still held in her right hand. A glass of wine in her left.
“That took you longer than I expected,” she remarked.
“To drive here?” Itachi questioned in return.
Her lips smiled. “Sure.”
His eyes drifted down. She was wearing just a dark blue sleepshirt. Her left forearm was wrapped in bandages. Blood seeping pink through the white gauze just below the jut of the bones in her wrist. Like flower petals drifting on the surface of snow.
“What the hell is that?” Itachi demanded. His voice cutting.
And Sakura looked down, like she hadn’t even realized she was bleeding.
“Oh. It’s fine. I took care of it,” she assured him. She set the wine glass down on the table. Placed her gun right next to it. Itachi closed the gap between them in long strides. He grabbed her hand.
“This isn’t fine. You’re still bleeding,” he ground out.
“That hurts, Kumicho,” she told him in that same, calm voice. Her eyes made of steel as she stared up at him. Slowly, he released her. And she flexed her fingers.
“See? Didn’t even cut the tendons. I’m fine,” Sakura assured him, her smile returning. Taking the wine glass again, she slipped back through the door she had come from.
Itachi took a deep breath. He rested his hand on the back of a chair, trying to gather his thoughts. Shedding his coat, he draped it over the chair and followed her.
This half of the suite led into a massive bedroom. The floor and walls were covered in gleaming wood. There were more windows that offered a view of the city twinkling lovely and bright below. A small suitcase sat open by the bathroom door. The TV in front of the bed was on, but muted. A laptop sat open on the desk, stock prices flashing across the screen. It refreshed automatically every once in a while.
He stood in the entrance of the bathroom. Arm leaning against the doorjamb. Watching Sakura as she washed her hands. Lengths of unraveled bandages sat on the counter beside her. A pair of scissors. A few drops of blood dotted the white marble. Almost black.
“Are you going to tell me what happened?”
She looked up in the mirror. Their reflections looked at each other before she lowered her head again.
“It doesn’t concern you. So no,” she answered, turning to dry her hands.
“I thought you might say that,” he sighed. He folded his arms across his chest, closing his eyes. They slid back open when he felt her lips press to his. Before he could move reach for her, she pulled away.
The wine glass was back in her hand. She took a sip. It stained her lower lip purple before she licked it clean. And then she took his hand. Guiding him into the bedroom.
“You haven’t been answering your phone,” Itachi said as he followed her. She released him, using her newly-freed hand to point to the desk. Itachi took a few steps toward the laptop. To left of it were scraps of plastic, broken glass. Tangled components of chips and tiny batteries. Beside it was a flat metal disk with two wires attached.
“Found it attached to my phone, inside the case. Smashed the whole thing just in case,” Sakura explained, voice flat.
“Is that a bug?”
“Yeah. Pretty good quality. Like the kind police use back in Hong Kong,” she replied. And she sat on the edge of the desk. Draining the rest of the wine from the glass. Her lipstick marking the edge in a perfect replica of her mouth. Itachi pinched the bug between his fingers, scrutinizing it.
“Who could’ve planted it?” he wondered.
Sakura let out a long sigh. Bare legs crossing together.
“Madara. Asshole was always planting shit on me. Could have been some of my guys. They would’ve had some opportunities to slip it in,” she listed. And then her hand curled around the back of his neck. Her eyes suddenly sharp. “It could have also been you, Kumicho.”
Itachi set the bug back down on the desk. He placed his hand on her knee, fingers sliding up her thigh.
“Do you really think so?” he whispered.
The steeliness left her gaze. She smiled. The expression natural, almost soft. Her hand turning gentle too. Stroking the back of his neck, tracing down the path of his spine.
“No. I just wanted to see that look on your face,” she replied.
Itachi’s hand slipped higher. Stilled when he discovered that she wasn’t wearing anything underneath. As if reading his thoughts, she scoffed.
“That wasn’t for you. It’s because I was feeling lazy today,” she told him. A smile curled Itachi’s mouth as he kissed her.
“Sure,” he said.
Her thighs tightened around his wrist as his fingers found her favorite spots. Her fingers linking together behind his neck, sighs playing softly into his ear. But after a few strokes, his hand went still again.
“You’re... really wet,” he murmured, more surprised than anything. She squirmed against him, sounding frustrated.
“I told you. You took longer than I expected,” she whispered in return.
He sighed. The sound shaky, turning into a chuckle at the end. His fingers slipped free of her so that he could wrap his arms around her. Itachi lifted her up to move them to the bed. But before he could lower her, something gleamed in Sakura’s eyes. She twisted, knees gripping his waist. The ceiling spun. Back hitting the mattress. When he blinked, Sakura’s face appeared above him. Smug.
“I said ‘next time’, leng zai. It’s next time,” she told him.
Itachi stared at the wood panels in the ceiling. The round lights embedded in the corners glowing almost yellow. Staring down at him as her teeth grasped the tab of his zipper.
“Unless... you don’t like it?” her voice drifted up to him.
All the air in his lungs rushed out in a wheeze. Toes flexing, arch of his foot nearly cramping as her mouth closed around him. He lifted his head to find her smirking up at him. Eyes twinkling even brighter than the skyline behind her. He chuckled a little, letting his head fall back. Arm covering his face.
“No. No complaints at all,” he assured her.
