Cassandra Clare writing the pre-tlh short stories and then forgetting about them & what they had established as canon when actually writing the last hours is my villain origin story. like it makes me so violent. and I get things change as the writing process goes on but imo as an author you have a responsibility to abide by what you previously wrote & published. you don't get to pretend that it just never happened.

******************
You were over the moon when you found out that you would be accompanied by General Obi Wan Kenobi on your next business trip.
Literally. Quite literally, you were over the moon. You had just coincidentally flown over Centax-3 and were now in pursuit to Coruscant's surface in preparation for your oncoming journey, and you were so beyond excited that you found it hard to contain yourself around your personal guards. Just as you entered the planet’s atmosphere, you decided you had enough of the automated briefing and muted the transmitter on your arm. You were too focused on the fact that you were going to be alone with General Kenobi for an entire day.
Well, night really. You had managed to catch that part of the briefing.
You could watch it later. As you packed, perhaps. It was fine.
Feeling like a little girl as you basically pranced back to your quarters, you lugged a small bag out of your closet and began to fill it with necessities.
Being a senator for so many years had forced you into countless situations with General Kenobi, but never such as this one. When you met the Jedi Knight in the beginning of your career, the two of you clicked almost instantly. Over time, your admiration of the man blossomed into something...different.
Oftentimes the general would escort you from the Senate Chamber itself all the way to your office on the third floor. He had always been so well spoken and full to the brim with witty charm, enough to make you feel like a total schoolgirl when you locked yourself in your office, squealing and jumping up and down after your encounters with him. Sometimes, you would accompany Obi Wan on walks both inside and outside the building. One time, he was kind enough to show you the gardens outside the Jedi temple on Coruscant. Other times, you were simply by his side in the senate halls, holding your stomach as you just about died of laughter. It was all you could do to keep yourself from absolutely melting when he looked at you with those glittering blue eyes, his lips curved up into a smirk.
Butterflies swarmed in a vicious frenzy as you packed your bag, your cheeks so hot you thought you might explode just at the thought of General Kenobi. You looked up when you heard a soft knock at your door. “Come in,” You had said before a guard stepped inside and informed you that you were leaving earlier than the time scheduled. You nodded and rose to your feet swiftly with a polite smile.
“That’s alright, I’m already prepared.”
***************
The only thing you had forgotten was to finish watching the automated briefing.
Which, arguably, should have been at the top of your list. But somehow it had just slipped from your mind. Now, you were positioned in between General Kenobi and his commander, CC-2224, but you knew him as Cody. The two men remained quiet and Obi Wan tapped through the data pad in his hand. When you glanced at Cody, you couldn’t tell what exactly he was looking at or if he even had his eyes open under his helmet, he was so quiet. Either way, you cast him a polite smile when you glanced his way.
You felt kind of awful, really. This was, on your part, a mission regarding humanitarian aid, and you were the Galactic Republic’s representative in this instance. You didn’t know anything about this planet you were traveling to, only its name - Lelroth. You didn’t know the people’s conditions nor how much territory the Separatists occupied, that is, unless the citizens had decided to stand their ground.
A clone trooper’s voice came over the intercom of the transporter. “We’ll be arriving shortly.”
You tried to peek at Obi Wan’s data pad in hopes of receiving any information. “Have you ever been to Lelroth?” You asked.
He glanced up at you. “No. Frankly, I have no idea what to expect.”
“Well, that makes two of us.” You muttered quietly. His eyebrows quirked up as he stared at you.
“What?” You asked.
“You...received the briefing, correct?” He asked, and immediately your palms began to sweat.
“Of course I received the briefing.” You responded a little too defensively. He gave you a small grin before looking back down at the tablet in his hands.
You glanced over at Cody nervously as if expecting a response. You felt stupid after your eyes fell onto his yellow helmet, hearing Obi Wan step away and enter the pilot’s cabin.
“You didn’t watch the briefing, did you?” Cody asked, his voice hushed and amused.
“No.” You said. “No, I did not.”
You heard his chuckle through the moderator in his helmet as heat rose to your cheeks. You couldn’t help but smile and punch him playfully, giggling slightly. He leaned closer and began to fill you in quietly, and all jokes fell aside when you learned of the planet’s condition.
Few months prior, Lelroth had fallen under separatist control after the population had been forced under Count Dooku’s submission. The Republic Senate had been receiving reports of just about anything you could think of to describe a humanitarian crisis. You stumbled into Cody a bit as the ship landed.
“We’re here.” The pilot announced as the hatch lowered with a loud, steaming noise.
You squinted as bright sunlight poured into the cabin, raising a hand up to block the sun as Obi Wan stepped out. Lelroth’s atmosphere was thick and humid as you followed him, listening to the dirt crumble beneath your feet as you stepped out. You gazed around the enclosing woods with a small smile, the saturation taking you by surprise after being stuck on Coruscant’s smoggy surface for so long. Though it was muggy, the air felt clean and fresh as you took in a deep breath. You swore you could almost taste the moisture on your tongue.
“Preferably tomorrow morning, yes. I’ll be contacting the council tonight and…” The general’s voice came in and out of earshot as you glanced over at the assault carrier you arrived on. You watched as the clones nodded swiftly at the Jedi’s words, saluting him one last time before the hatch closed and the ship descended through the trees. It was gone almost as quickly as it had arrived.
Obi Wan sighed and pulled the data pad back out of the abyss of his dark cloak before tapping at the screen again. “Let’s make this quick, shall we?” He murmured.
You laughed slightly. “Is my presence such a bother?” The tablet still held his attention as he flashed you a grin.
“Oh, yes. That’s definitely the reason.” He joked.
A sickening feeling started to grab at your stomach after hearing Cody describe the condition on Lelroth. You were unnerved, and regardless of the fact that you had a Jedi Knight as your company, you two were members of the Galactic Republic isolated on separatist territory.
“We should get going.” You murmured. “They’ll be expecting us soon.” you watched Obi Wan pull his large hood over his head as he murmured something under his breath, stepping forward and heading deep into the thick forest with you on his tail.
****************
The Lelrothians were a kind people. Their reaction to your arrival with the general was rather pleasant - they went so far as to throw a feast in you and the general’s honor. After meeting with the chief of the village you would reside in, you finally got a real understanding of the Lelrothians’ situation. You and Kenobi shared a grimaced glance as the chief went on to describe the state of his village alone.
He explained how a large percentage of the newfound members in his village were forced to flee the capital city after falling under a dark hand. You assumed the state of the capital was even worse than this small village as he reported substantial amounts of depleted resources. Running water had been cut off to many families and citizens could no longer supply food on their tables. The chief even mentioned the punishments some experienced for resisting - you weren’t surprised in the nearest after hearing tales of the wicked actions of General Grievous and his clanker army, but still...it was hard to hear.
“We were neutral ground,” You gazed over the chief’s descending head tails as he spoke. Dinek Kev was a twi’lek himself, his account thick and common amongst most of his species. When you glanced around the table, there had to be over fifteen different species in just the room alone. Sullustans, Ithorians, even a few Gungans and a Wookiee occupied a seat at the table. You smiled to yourself and returned your attention to the orange skin of Chief Dinek as he spoke.
“A peaceful people. Nearly everyone in this room is an immigrant or comes from one, somebody who was seeking peace. Other pacifist planets such as Mandalore seem to have been fine as they’ve remained neutral.”
“Believe me, Chief - Mandalore has been experiencing a great deal of their own internal conflict.” General Kenobi spoke.
“Forgive me, Jedi.” Dinek murmured quickly. “I’m just...desperate. I would have never taken the role of chief if it weren’t for Grievous and his army - I only want to protect my family and my home.”
You reached out and took Dinek’s hand, staring into his eyes sympathetically. “I’ll open it up for discussion in the senate as soon as I return to Coruscant. I promise you, Chief Dinek, we’re going to provide Lelroth with humanitarian aid and drive the separatists out of here.”
“I’ll speak with the council tonight.” The hood of Obi Wan’s cloak hung lazily around his neck as he murmured, stroking his beard in his typical fashion. His delicate blue eyes were glued onto his empty plate. Dinek squeezed your hand and began to thank the two of you profusely. You bit your lip, hesitant to discuss the requirements in order for any agreement to come through within the senate.
“Chief Dinek,” You started. “The villagers are going to have to learn to defend themselves.”
All you got from him in response was a simple blink,  a common reaction among those the Jedi come to aid. Most planets that fall under separatist control hold peaceful populations, those who don’t believe in waging war and therefore seeing no need for a military. You desperately wished it didn’t have to be this way. It was heartbreaking seeing simple, innocent lives dragged into the Clone Wars, and one day, you hoped that the galaxy would evolve into one where war could be completely evaded.
“Defend ourselves? You mean train us to fight?” Dinek asked.
“Yes.” You replied.
“That is why we’re here.” Obi Wan explained. The chief finally slid his hand from yours and seemed to recoil at the words spoken. “The Jedi can only aid so much, Chief. The Lelrothians need to learn to defend themselves in order to be sure of complete safety from the separatists.”
After a moment of watching the chief calculate in silence, he looked up at you two with an entirely different expression on his face. He glanced around the dim room and gazed over his people with a small smile curved upon his lips. His eyes darted to yours before Obi Wan’s as he spoke.
“You’re right. The Lelrothians are never going to evade this if we don’t take matters into our own hands.” You smiled at Dinek’s words.
“Good.” Obi Wan stroked his beard again.
“I’ll leave for Coruscant at dawn and begin discussion in the senate.” You announced.
“Yes, and that is when training will begin. Tonight I will get an idea of when reinforcements will arrive on Lelroth. We’ll have a very short timespan to train, I suspect.” The general uttered.
“General Kenobi and I will stay in contact and you’ll be the first to know the senate’s decision.” You concluded. Dinek took your hand again and smiled/
“Thank you. Thank you so much.” As he spoke, music began to sound from the instruments held by those up on a small, makeshift stage. The villagers began to cheer and rose to their feet, clapping along to the tune that billowed out from various horns. You grinned as the chief stood and joined his people, taking a woman’s hand delicately and spinning her in delight.
You looked over at Obi Wan with a smile. He looked up at you and met your gaze with the rise of an eyebrow. “What?” He asked.
“Wanna dance?” You giggled. He merely scoffed.
“That would seem a bit unprofessional.” You rolled your eyes with a smile.
“Oh, lighten up, General. They threw an entire feast in our honor, surely we can dance with them.”
He smiled at you sarcastically. “I’ll pass.”
“C’mon. You know you want to.” You pressed, nudging him playfully.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He answered simply.
“Just relax. It’s not like you’ll get kicked out of the order or whatever. It’s just dancing!” He glanced up at you in his seat as you stood, grinning down at him.
“You can be very nagging, did you know that?” He asked. You offered your hand, the same stupid grin plastered onto your lips. He scoffed again and reluctantly took it, rising to his feet slowly.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” He muttered with a grin as you pulled him over to the crowd and were instantly submerged by cheers, laughter, and celebration, having the time of your life with Obi Wan at your side.
**********************
The celebration soon came to an end and after a brief escort from Chief Dinek and a few of his men, you and General Kenobi arrived at the motel you would come to stay at briefly. The neon lights of the vacancy sign cast a bleached hot pink color onto the gravel beneath your feet. It crunched and crumbled as you stepped, tuning out of Obi Wan and Dinek’s conversation as you were led into the cramped lobby.
The wallpaper was faded and chipping in the room surrounding the front desk. A small Sullustan woman sat in an organically shaped velvet chair with a book open in front of her. Dinek stepped forward and quickly informed her that you and Kenobi were the reinforcements sent from Coruscant. You listened as she told the chief that there was only one room available, in which you and Obi Wan shrugged off. She thanked the two of you, passed over the room key and sent you on your way. As you trudged up the wooden stairs that led to the second floor, you heard Obi Wan sigh.
“Tired from all that dancing, General?” You chuckled. “You sure know how to get down.”
“Yes, but you on the other hand…” He trailed off, and when you looked back at him with a dramatic expression on your face, he chuckled.
You smiled and swiped the key card through the slot outside the door. “Whatever.”
The two of you didn’t think much of the fact that there was only one room available. It didn’t matter to either of you, because all motel rooms generally contain two separate beds, right?
Wrong. Apparently, all hotel rooms except this one contained two separate beds. Your jaw wanted to hang open at the sight of it, really. Obi Wan froze in his tracks when he entered the compact room.
“Not even a sofa?” you commented. The door still hung open behind you when Obi Wan turned and met your gaze almost frantically.
“There has to be a mistake.” He said.
“She said this was the only room available. Dinek said this was the only lodge in the village.” You mumbled, finally shutting the door.
“Right, well.” The general uttered and stroked his beard once again, beginning to pace as he did so. “I guess I’ll sleep on the floor.”
You rolled your eyes. “Oh, don’t be ridiculous. I’ll sleep on the floor, you have to train in the morning.” You watched as he traveled over to the chairs seated at a tiny round table in front of the window. They were a brilliant orange in contrast to the faded, once flamboyant green walls.
“No. The chair will do.” He said as he sunk into the cushion. “See?” He planted his feet onto the stem of the table, pushing it back so it allowed him to stretch his ankles over the surface. You only stared at him with your eyebrows raised.
“It beats the floor.” Obi Wan shrugged. You shook your head, smiling as you sat on the edge of the bed. You were facing forward, looking at the painting that hung on the wall before you. The sheets on the mattress were an ugly plaid that was laced with oranges, reds, greens and browns. It was very dated, but at the same time it almost felt...homey.
“We’re adults, aren’t we?” You chuckled. “This is only a business trip, General. Stars, if we have to we can just build a pillow wall between the two of us.”
When you didn’t get an immediate response, you glanced over at him only to see the amused expression on his face. But it was the kind of amused look that nearly belittles you and makes you feel completely and utterly ridiculous.
“Yes, and a business trip it will remain.” He uttered. “I do hope you’re joking.”
Your cheeks grew hot in flustered embarrassment. “Uh - I mean, yeah. Totally kidding.” You darted your eyes to your feet and began to swing them back and forth childishly. You heard chuckling from the general’s end but didn’t dare look over at him. You didn’t need to, you already knew he was sitting back and staring at the data pad again.
Moments passed and you had nothing else better to do than sift through the dusty magazines that sat below the bedside table. The lamp atop the metal surface cast a warm, dim yellow light through the room. It made you feel almost cozy as you flipped through the old pages, reading the articles and gazing at some of the most beautiful alien models you had ever laid eyes on. “Wish they had a holonet in here.” You muttered, bored and wishing for some kind of noise instead of this awkward silence that hung in the air.
Time continued to drag on and it grew late enough for you to decide to head into the bathroom to change your clothes. You turned the handle and listened as the faucet began to run while staring at yourself in the mirror. The general seemed grumpy after your comment, and you weren’t sure why. It was easily played off as a joke, you thought...besides, you only wanted to save him from a little back pain and stiffness in the morning.
You were only trying to be polite. And, well...you were secretly hoping for a little more than that.
As you splashed warm water onto your face, you heard Obi Wan’s voice from the other side of the door and watched as his figure cast shadows across the tile you stood on. The automated voice of Master Yoda and Master Mace Windu echoed around the small room as the general began to discuss with the council.
When you stepped out of the bathroom and crawled under the covers, you tried your best not to eavesdrop on his conversation. You stared at the magazine in your lap blankly.
All he was doing was pacing, it was rather distracting. You wished this place had a radio or something, or that it was safe enough to take a short walk. The meeting between Obi Wan and the other Jedi Masters seemed to last eons as you found your eyelids growing heavy. You stared at the cover of the magazine, it showcased a twi’lek woman posing in front of a ship. You yawned, cast it aside and allowed sleep to take over completely.
******************
When you woke up, it was still dark outside. The lamp beside your bed had been shut off by Obi Wan, but the one hanging above the chair he sat in remained lit as he set down the data pad with a sigh. You weren’t sure what had woken you up, and as you gazed at the general while you laid on your side, you didn’t really care.
You could tell he was weary as he blinked slowly and ran his fingers through his hair. Glancing away, you felt slightly creepy as you stared at him for so long. But, I mean, could you really blame yourself?
After moments of silence, Obi Wan was the one to break it. “My apologies. I didn’t realize that the meeting would take so long.” His voice was deep and a bit croaky as it came out.
“It’s okay.” Was all you said as he reached for the light above him.
“Get some sleep,” he murmured.
“Are you sure you don’t want to share the bed?” You made sure it was apparent that you were joking as you smiled and chuckled, gazing at him as you did so. He paused for a moment, staring at you before his lips curved up into a grin.
“I see that pillow wall is still up for discussion?” He teased, and you laughed again.
“C’mon, it won’t bite. Besides, I’m only trying to save you from a little back pain.”
“Senator, are you implying that I’m old?” He chuckled.
“No, but I do understand that the dancing was already a step over the line for you.” You giggled, smirking. “Hurry up with that decision making please, I’m tired.”
Obi Wan laughed slightly before reaching up and turning off the light. To your disappointment, he didn’t stand up from his chair. You sighed softly and shut your eyes, letting go of the situation as you focused on falling asleep again.
Just as your mind began to wander, you felt a weight sink into the mattress beside you. Your eyes flew open as Obi Wan climbed into bed next to you, only to stare at the complete darkness that surrounded.
You grinned. “Did you change your mind?”
He sighed as he settled in. You could feel him, mere inches away from you as he relaxed. “Don’t make me regret it, Senator.”
You chuckled as darker thoughts began to consume you, reminding yourself that this was a business trip - strictly business. You wondered if Obi Wan thought the same, but you shot that down with another reality check as well.
You wanted to say something, but you didn’t. You couldn’t. You were worried that Obi Wan was actually trying to sleep, and you didn’t want to disturb him, or worse - make things even more awkward like earlier. Now, more than ever, you knew you were never going to fall asleep with Obi Wan Kenobi lying next to you.
“Are you alright?”
“Hm?”
“I can practically feel how restless you are at the moment.” He murmured.
“Am I moving too much or is it your spooky voodoo magic?” You asked. He began to chuckle softly.
“Do you mean the Force?”
“Yeah, that.”
“It doesn’t take a Jedi to feel you staring at me.” The grin in his voice made you feel even more embarrassed as you rolled over onto your opposite side, your eyes squeezed shut.
Obi Wan hesitated for a moment before murmuring, “I never said stop, darling. I don’t mind.” His words ignited a spark that released trillions of butterflies swarming in your stomach, and you couldn’t stop the gigantic smile that was forming on your lips.
“I’m sorry, what was that?” As you responded, you felt the general’s weight shift behind you.
His voice came from above you now. “Oh, you didn’t hear me clearly?” You felt his hot breath against your ear as he spoke his next sentence. “I said, I don’t mind your staring. I just wish you would stare at me when I could see you doing it.” His mumbling spiraled into your ear and descended down your body, pausing right in between your legs. You crossed them tight in instinct, nearly gasping.
“I thought you said this trip was strictly business, General.” You breathed.
“Like you said, I already crossed the line when you forced me to dance.” He joked. “Besides, I think we’ve both waited long enough for this moment.” His voice was hushed and gravelly and Stars, sexy as it rumbled into your ear. You turned until you felt his lips were hovering over yours in the darkness, the mattress creaking as you did so.
“You didn’t seem to think that way earlier.” You mumbled, a fat smirk on your face as you teased him. He sunk himself closer to you and you swore you felt his lips brush against yours for a second.
“Nobody needs to know,” He whispered. A moment of silence passed before he dove his lips into yours, drawing out a small sound of surprise from you. You felt his forearm come down beside your head and he let out the tiniest of groans. You knew this was coming judging by your previous dialogue, but you were still in shock. For a moment, you seemed to be dead weight as Obi Wan crawled on top of you. The only thing that moved was your lips against his until realization finally kicked in.
It started with your hands, which rose up swiftly to grab the sides of his face. His beard felt scratchy beneath your fingers in the best way as you hooked your legs around his waist. You had always wanted to touch him like this, to feel and move with him as your mouths were connected and one was on top of the other. It was something you could only fantasize about for the longest time until you had to tell yourself it was never going to happen. But now, it was happening.
His lips were as soft and welcoming as the pillows beneath your head as he kissed you. It was deep and passionate and almost aggressive, and that alone confirmed to you that Kenobi wanted you just as much as you wanted him.
Following your hands came your tongue as you pressed it between his lips gently, silently asking for entrance into the warm cave of his mouth. He granted permission and you felt his hand entangle in your hair when your tongues met. You sat up slightly, pushing yourself into him further as you dragged your teeth across the pink valley of his bottom lip. The grip nestled in your hair tightened in reaction and you giggled softly into him.
He tasted of fresh mint, and you found yourself wondering if he had brushed his teeth mere moments before this. He was dominating and absolutely thrilling as he rolled over, allowing you to straddle his waist and dip your chin down to his neck to leave a series of pecks down his flesh.
“Someone’s eager,” he commented, and in response you bit down slightly into his skin. He made a small startled noise in response before chuckling, abruptly flipping you onto your back. He left you breathless as his lips collided into yours again, and he groaned when you arched into him. His hands were absolutely everywhere. They ran from your jaw to your neck and then down to your forearms, back up to your shoulders and down to your breasts, down to your waist to grab at your hips...seemingly all at once.
He squeezed his fingers into the meat of your thighs and you groaned, raking your own through his hair. You felt like his touch was all you needed as your tongue slid against his.
Darkness still engulfed the two of you. Obi Wan’s skin was on fire when he caressed you, the heat between your legs was set ablaze as he dipped his chin down, his lips traveling down your neck slowly. You wanted to see him, his face when he looked down at you, his blue eyes clouded with lust. You wanted to look into his eyes and absolutely moan his name, you wanted to -
Obi Wan’s lips left your skin just above the hem of your shirt. He paused for a moment, holding himself before you and panting. “What is it?” You asked.
“Take off your clothes.” He commanded. You felt him lean to the side and squinted when the lamp was switched on. You didn’t respond as your eyes adjusted to the light, you only peered at him rather dumbly. You watched when he dragged his tongue across his lower lip. His eyelids looked heavy when he stared down at you.
“Did I stutter?” He asked. Your heart picked up pace and you grinned when you grabbed the neckline of his robes and yanked him forward.
“Why don’t you take it off for me?” You mumbled, blinking innocently. You felt your wrists fly above your head, elbows bent slightly as they tied together under an invisible grasp. You were confused for a moment as the general began to run his hands underneath your shirt, caressing your sides and traveling over your breasts briefly. It took a moment before it finally dawned on you that he was using the Force as your restraint.
He slid the fabric up ever so slowly and stared at your stomach when it was slowly revealed. He continued, his big warm hands sliding up your skin and pausing just as your breasts were revealed. He murmured something inaudible before tightening his grip around your waist and pulling you down on the mattress so his lips were level with your nipples. You moaned quietly, biting your lip as he began to kiss them. Your cunt was throbbing at this point and the muscles in your arms grew tired from being in such an unfamiliar position. You shut your eyes, but all at once the sensation on your breasts was removed as Obi Wan straightened his posture and finished ripping off your shirt. It came over your head quickly and was tossed to the side as if it were nothing.
“Can I have my hands back?” You giggled, breathless as he gazed at you.
He left soft, sweet kisses on the inside of your arms, his eyes twinkling as he had you paralyzed by the Force. “Not yet.” He said, and you didn’t have time to read the expression on your face before his lips were on your breasts again. You pushed your hips up against his chest as he continued, whining as he bit down gently onto your nipples. His lips descended down the center of your stomach, leaving slow, wet kisses on your skin before pausing just above the waistline of your pants. His blue eyes finally blinked up at you, and he was smirking.
Your cunt was throbbing so damn hard you wondered if he could feel it at this point. “Please,” You breathed. “I want to touch you.”
“Not yet,” Obi Wan repeated before curling his fingertips around the hem of the fabric and dragging it down your thighs.
“This...isn’t fair.” You grunted as you tried to pull your wrists from their restraint. It was no use, it felt like your arms were paralyzed in this position. Your pajama pants were now being thrown to the side just as your shirt was, and the general was leaving small pecks up the length of your legs whilst holding strong eye contact.
“Please, general - “ your cunt felt like it was on fire when he lifted his chin to look at you.
“Did you...seriously just call me ‘general’ in this setting?” He paused, chuckling.
“Well, I - “ you were flustered and frustrated at this point. “I don’t know, what should I call you?!” You had snapped. He only grinned with a shrug before he continued, pulling at your skin with his teeth.
He dug his fingers into your sides, and in between slow kisses, he said, “Doesn’t matter...whatever feels...most...comfortable.”
You thought about it for a moment. Yeah, you supposed referring to him as General Kenobi was a bit strange as he was actively stripping you of your clothing. But it still didn’t feel right calling him Obi Wan, either. You weren’t sure why.
Your wrists were finally released as his lips reached the corner of your inner thigh just below your flaming heat. Your panties still hugged your hips when Kenobi glanced up at you, seeming like he had forgotten to hold your arms in place.
Without giving him any chance of reaction, you slid out from under him and pounced on him like a fucking animal. You giggled and he shared your smile as you sat on him and began to rid him of his robes.
Once they were off and you finally got to shower every possible centimeter of his skin with kisses, but he was quick to flip you back over so you were trapped beneath him again. You struggled to get atop of him with a grunt, but it was useless. He was already pinning your wrists to the sheets again and barricading you with his own weight.
“Behave.” Again, his voice rumbled right into your ear, hot and thick as he nipped at your earlobe. In response you arched your back into him and whined, digging your fingernails into his back.
“Let me touch you - “ you grunted. “I want to...to make you feel good. I can make you feel so good, Master.” You moaned, letting the words fall from your mouth without even a second thought. In an instant, his fingers were around your chin and you were being forced to look into his pretty eyes.
“What did you call me?” He asked.
You giggled. “You heard me.”
A minute went by before he moved his hand from your chin downwards, slowly tightening around your neck. “Say it again.” You smiled and tilted your head back, shutting your eyes and moaning the word again.
“Master.”
He let out a sound similar to a growl before he rolled over, positioning yourself on top of his lap. You could feel his large erection beneath you, and it was in the perfect spot as you rolled your hips forward and crouched down, allowing your lips to meet his.
He kissed you aggressively, placed one hand on the back of your head and forced you into him while the other snaked underneath the fabric of your panties, finding your clit almost instantly. You whimpered against his lips and continued to grind against his cock before using your own hands to remove yourself from the barricading fabric.
You were so desperate to feel him inside of you. He grabbed your chin again and forced your lips to part, staring at you with dark eyes and a wicked grin as he pressed the pad of his thumb to your lower lip. “So desperate for it, aren’t you?” He mumbled.
You huffed and tossed your underwear to the side before pressing your lips against his ear and murmuring, “Can you feel how wet I am for you, Master?”
He grunted and moved his hands to your hips, forcing them down onto his cock. You rocked them forward, letting the tip slide over your clit and through your slick folds with a moan. Fuck, this felt good. You lapped at his earlobe and giggled before continuing. “Just imagine how good it’ll feel when you put it in, so warm and wet and tight - “
“You’ll want to shut that pretty little mouth before I put it to work.” He growled, and a wild grin spread over your face before you positioned him below your entrance.
You took him in slowly with a long moan and straightened you back, your breasts high and prominent for him to see. “Fuck,” you moaned. Your eyebrows furrowed as he filled you up.
Obi Wan grunted. “Stars, can’t you go any quicker?” He was frustrated as you giggled again.
“I think this feels fucking good.” You moaned again. “Your cock is so - “ you were cut off by his hand on your throat, forcing him down to his own face. He didn’t say anything, just silently forced your lips against his. It made you lose control of your pace, plunging down onto his entire length at once, drawing moans from both of you as you kissed.
“That’s better.” He mumbled against you. “Now do it again.”
You brought your hips up once more and slithered your tongue into his mouth, allowing them to fall back down, your cunt swallowing him whole in one stroke. Just as you started to kiss his neck again, you were flipped onto your back for what felt like the thousandth time.
“Would you just let me - “ The familiar grip on your chin cut you off, and your eyes were forced into his. With his other hand, he brought your knees to your chest and positioned himself at your entrance. He absolutely rammed himself inside of you without any issues, and your eyes widened when you gasped.
“I thought...I told you...to behave.” Obi Wan grunted in between his thrusts. Your fingers found their grip in the sheets beside you. Your back arched and you moaned while he pumped himself in and out of your wet cunt.
“If this is what I get for misbehaving…” you panted, tears pricking at your eyes from them being shut so tight. “...then I guess I’ll have to do it more often.”
General Kenobi let out a low groan as he continued thrusting into you, remaining his quick, hard rhythm. Your eyes met his as the two of you moaned, and his hand found its way back into the roots of your hair as he muttered, “Say it.”
“Master,” you mewled as he tugged on your hair, his cock hitting the perfect spot as he thrusted into you. “Master, your cock feels so good - “ his thumb was on your lip again when he interrupted you.
“Such filthy words coming from this pretty little face,” he murmured. “You like being dirty, don’t you? You enjoy being choked when you misbehave, hmm?”
You didn’t respond, your eyebrows only curved up when you moaned. His hips rolled forward and his cock was still sliding in and out of your folds. “Answer me,” he demanded.
“Yes,” you breathed. “Yes, Master.” Your hand released its grip on the sheets and traveled down in between your legs to gently play with your clit, but Obi Wan stopped you, removing your wrist sharply.
“If you want it, beg for it.” He said slowly.
“Fuck,” you gasped. “Please play with it - Master, please just touch my clit and…” you trailed off with whine as you felt his thumb slowly circling around it, agonizingly slow and so, so hot. You whimpered and rolled your head back into the pillow, tangling your hair against the cotton.
“Does that feel good, darling? Tell me how it feels.”
“Yes, fuck, it feels so good,” You panted, your eyes squeezing shut again. “It feels so fucking good, I might...I might cum,” you continued in between whimpers and moans. “Master - please let me cum.”
“Good girl.” He rasped before removing his thumb completely. You let out a sob as he pulled his length out from you, watching as he began to stroke himself when he lowered his head between your legs. “Such a good girl, asking for my permission.” He murmured before sliding his tongue up your heat ever so slowly, stopping at your clit to circle around it.
You whined, bucking your hips against him, grinding on his face as you babbled. “Fuck...this feels so good, your tongue, shit, I want your cock again - “
“You’ll have to wait for it,” he mumbled against you. Whining, you sat up and propped yourself on your elbows as you panted. You were a mess, and you continued to plead with him until he had enough of it and grabbed you by your shoulders. He forced you onto the floor, sitting on your knees as he sat on the mattress in front of you.
“If you won’t shut your mouth, I’ll just have to do it for you.” He muttered before pushing your head down onto his large cock. You let out a satisfied moan and made sure he was staring at you, remaining eye contact. You lifted a hand to stroke the base as your tongue swirled slowly around the tip, bobbing your head back and forth steadily.
Obi Wan moaned and shut his eyes. “Stars.” He murmured.
You released the tip with an audible pop, allowing a string of drool to fall from the edge of your lower lip. “It feels good, doesn’t it Master?” You planted your tongue to the base of his shaft and slooooowly dragged it up prior to rolling it over the tip and taking him into your mouth again. His breath hitched in his throat.
“You’re so filthy, do you know that? You’re so...good at this, you must have...had - practice...Stars, pretty girl...how are you so good at this?” He mumbled, grunting and moaning between the words that spilled from his mouth.
Again, his shaft left your mouth and you spit on your palm before using it to stroke him up and down. You blinked at him all innocent and doe-like. “I like it when you talk to me like that. Will you cum on my face, Master?”
Obi Wan blinked and grunted, thrusting his hips up into your palm. “You’re obscene.”
“But you like it, don’t you?” You planted a kiss on his tip before gliding your hands along his thighs and rising to your feet. You leaned forward and lifted his chin using your index and middle finger, smiling. “You like seeing me like this. You like making me your dirty little slut, don’t you, Master?” You blinked again and smiled sweetly before swinging your leg around his lap, straddling him.
He was absolutely mesmerized. “Don’t give me that look.”
You did it again, smiled softly. “Or what?” You challenged.
Just as your cunt was about to swallow his length again, you were thrown onto your back strongly and the general’s hand was once again tightened around your neck. His lips were on your ear and his fingers were dancing around your clit as he rammed himself inside of you. Your eyes filled with tears when you cried out, savoring the sudden sensations engulfing you. You moaned, feeling your voice vibrate against his hand.
“I like punishing you, you know.” His voice was low, and you moaned as he licked your ear. “You’re such a good girl when you want to be.”
“This isn’t...much of a punishment.” You grunted. He bit down onto your earlobe and you whimpered.
“Oh, we haven’t gotten to that part yet.” He rasped into your ear. His pace quickened and his fingers felt glorious against your clit. Your movements synced with his perfectly. You could feel yourself quickly approaching your climax as he kissed the skin on your neck, hitting all the perfect places when he pumped into you. It was as if he knew exactly what you wanted and how you wanted it.
You felt yourself caving in and desire dripped from your tongue as you moaned, “I’m gonna cum.” Just as the words fell, everything stopped. Obi Wan’s fingers and his cock left your cunt all at once, and you let out a cry just before his eyes met yours.
“Like I said before,” his lips brushed against your own as he purred into your mouth. “We hadn’t gotten there yet.”
You already had come down almost completely from your previous euphoric state when his fingers glided inside of you. You writhed and moaned under his touch and Stars, this man sure knew who to put his hands to work. When he lowered his lips back down to your clit, you thought you would just about lose your mind. “Fuck.” You moaned. “Please, Master. Let me finish.” You pleaded.
“Quiet.” He muttered before continuing. You obeyed and only continued to moan under his force, biting your lip and rocking your hips against his face as he pleasured you. His free hand slithered up your body and intertwined his fingers with your own as he worked in between your legs. You squeezed his hand so hard that you thought it would just about snap off. Obi Wan finally paused, blinking up at you from in between your legs.
“Are you going to behave now, darling?” He asked, still slowly working his fingers in and out of your cunt as he spoke. You nodded quickly.
“Say it.”
“Y-yes. I’m going to behave, I-I’ll be a good girl for you.” You said then added, “Master.” The general chuckled before instructing you to get on your elbows and knees, to which you obliged and rested your front end onto a cushy pillow. You arched your back, ass raised, and giggled when you received a slap on your ass before Kenobi positioned himself.
He grabbed at and pulled your hair, raising your head so you could see him out of the corner of your eye. He planted a kiss onto your temple before murmuring,
“Pretty, pretty girl.”
Then, he rammed into you so hard and unexpectedly that you gasp and cry out his name. He clearly doesn’t catch it, and you shut your eyes as a single tear falls, continuing to cry out and whimper beneath him. Fuck, it’s amazing, and it’s everything you had ever fantasized it would be. You swear you see stars as he continues, pumping in and out of you again, again, and again...this position seems so much better than before, you thought. His grip is so tight on your hips that you think it may leave bruises, but hell, you love it. You want him to leave marks on you.
You think of all the times before that were filled with nothing but harmless flirting and charm. Now, everything will be different. You giggled at the thought of changing in the morning and seeing the bruises he left on your skin. You could feel yourself approaching your climax just at the thought of knowing that in this moment, you were his.
You almost didn’t want it to end, but you were so desperate to finish after having it ripped from you at the very edge. You were sweating, panting, and groaning the word “Master,” over and over again. “I’m gonna cum,” you said heavily.
“Go ahead.” Obi Wan seemed to gasp. Another tear fell down your cheek and you cried out louder than ever before as you crashed down onto him, all around him, everywhere. Absolutely fucking everywhere, and if it weren’t for the Jedi’s weight holding you up, you would’ve collapsed down into the mattress already. It hit like a fucking train wreck, and he remained his steady pace as your walls closed in onto his cock. You assumed he could feel your shaking, and when your breath heaved in and out of your lungs as you slumped against the pillow beneath you, you smiled a lazy smile.
The sound of Obi Wan Kenobi grunting and letting out a long, high-pitched moan as he came undone inside of you was just about the sexiest thing in the entire galaxy. He collided into the bed beside you, panting as he stared at the ceiling. You finally allowed your hips to fall and rested on your stomach, you head turned to face him. Beads of sweat rolled across his skin when he looked at you, and your thighs still quivered against the sheets.
He dragged two of his fingers softly underneath your chin. “Beautiful,” was all he could make out as he huffed beside you. You shut your eyes, that lazy smile still plastered to your face.
“Do you...think anybody heard us?” You asked, opening your eyes again. You gazed over his beard and his strong features as he peered at you.
“Oh, without a doubt.” He began to chuckle.
“Whoops.” You giggled. He rolled over and pressed his lips to yours briefly before responding.
“If I’m being honest, I really couldn’t care any less.” His voice was husky when he smiled as you pulled him back down, kissing him again and again until you fell asleep in your blissful state.

Can you do a n/cc AU meeting fic where they're in public and cc comes up to Niles and is like, "quick, act like you know me" (maybe she even surprisingly kisses/hugs him or something) because she is trying to get away from /avoid someone and they click and start hanging out together but both are afraid to say they're more than friends, but something happens that finally gets one of them to admit that they want to be more than friends
Here we are, my friend! I hope you enjoy it!
@missbabcocks1 @holomoriarty
Niles didn’t think he’d ever experienced anything quite like Central Park in the mid-to-latter days of summer. The sun practically illuminated the leaves on the trees, making everything look so spectacularly green for one final splendid display before they began their shift into fiery oranges and reds to prepare for autumn. Groups of tourists came and went, chatting happily in a myriad of languages and carrying (and wearing) assorted souvenirs, most probably delighted to have come on a trip before their summer holidays ended. The spot on the bench he’d found had a wonderful view of Turtle Pond, and the waves bobbed up and down pleasantly in a motion which could only relax a person the longer they looked at it.
It was peaceful, and the perfect place to come and get some fresh air on the days that Mr. and Mrs. Sheffield allowed him to have off. Well, the days off were probably more the idea of the latter, rather than the former, but still – the fact that he got them was the important part. Just because it had been a few years since they’d come to America (and Maxwell and Sara now had little Miss Maggie and Master Brighton to look after) and everybody was more settled into a routine, it didn’t mean that he had to be taken complete advantage of.
He might have been a butler, but he was still human as well.
That was why he was intending to finish enjoying his walk before he even thought of turning around and heading back to the mansion. As such, after a few more minutes of resting his feet and taking in the scenery, he got up from the bench and began to head off back in the direction of the main pathway.
A walk through The Ramble probably wouldn’t go ami-
Before he could even finish his thought, he was suddenly pulled back to the present moment by a young woman with blonde hair leaping at him out of nowhere and kissing him directly on the lips, before pulling him into a tight hug.
What the-?! Where had all of this suddenly come from?! He was almost completely certain that he had never met this woman before in his life (judging from the very brief glance he’d gotten as she’d pulled him in for the kiss, just before she’d hugged him) and he was more than completely certain that he had just been minding his own business and not…advertising anything!
But just as he was about to pull away and ask what the hell she thought she was doing, she held him fast.
“I am begging you, do not let go just yet. I’m trying to ditch that jackass who’s been following behind me all the way along 5th Avenue,” she explained hurriedly. “I told him I had a boyfriend who was waiting here for me, and you looked like you were by yourself.”
If it hadn’t been true and if the notion to be anything other than confused had been at the forefront of his mind, Niles would’ve been a little bit insulted by that comment. But as the shock of the moment quickly wore off and he thought to look over the mystery woman’s shoulder, he began to realise what she was talking about. A short way behind them, looking both immovable and rather angry, was a tall man in a smart suit with dark hair.
Even from where he was stood, Niles also thought he had an atmosphere about him that suggested he was both unfamiliar with, and frustrated by, rejection from women. And the idea that he had been following this woman for such a long way turned Niles’ stomach over, making it churn unpleasantly.
That certainly made her reaction of running straight to him understandable. Anybody other than that unwanted follower (who was still glaring at them from where he was stood) would look like a safe prospect in comparison.
Luckily for her, Niles couldn’t possibly think of doing anything other than helping.
He would have made this known out loud as well, had it not been for his sudden companion shifting her head slightly to keep on whispering.
“Has he gone?”
Niles eyed the man again, before turning his head in towards the woman so that he could whisper back, at the same time having to make sure that he didn’t accidentally inhale a mouthful of her hair.
“No,” he answered, suddenly feeling a tightness in his stomach that spoke of growing concern. “You think he should have, by now?”
He couldn’t see it, but the disgust in the woman’s voice suggested that she would have also screwed up her face, “Ugh, I was hoping this would be enough and that creep would get the message…!”
He didn’t know why, exactly, but those words sparked something off in Niles’ mind. It could’ve been the fact that she was clearly in need of more help than her original plan had been able to provide, but he couldn’t say for sure.
Not that it mattered, really. The fact that he was still there to help and a notion to continue her plan was already forming in his mind was enough.
“Leave it to me,” he told her. “I have an idea…”
He had to release her from their hold to put the plan into motion, but he kept one arm around her back to make what was going to happen next look convincing.
He was also sort of hoping that it would provide some form of comfort, considering what she’d just been through, and it gave him ample opportunity to take a better look at the person he’d just agreed to help out. She was almost exactly the same height as he was, with her hair loose about her shoulders over a light blouse and the strap of her bag, which was perched on her shoulder. She also had a strong jaw, carefully applied red lipstick, and a large pair of glasses perched on the bridge of her long nose.
Through them, Niles also quickly noted that she had the most stunning pair of blue eyes…
But he couldn’t let himself become too absorbed. They had other matters to attend to, and that specifically involved getting rid of the man who still apparently had yet to take no for an answer.
He looked the man up and down with obvious disdain, before calling out to him.
“Can I help you at all, sir?” he asked loudly, and quite sarcastically. “Perhaps I could get you some binoculars for a better look at us? Or maybe you would prefer a camera to preserve the moment?”
He’d hoped that that might have shamed the man into moving on, but it didn’t appear to have any effect. If anything, it seemed to encourage the other man to come closer.
“…You’re her boyfriend?” he asked, pointing at the woman as he did.
Niles didn’t like or appreciate the gesture, and he frowned. The words left a lot to be desired, too – it made it sound like this woman’s word wasn’t good enough for her apparent stalker, and he needed a man’s proof before he took anything seriously.
The butler stood his ground quite firmly when replying, “You believe that it’s any of your business to know that?”
That just appeared to further frustrate the other man, who pursed his lips so hard they nearly disappeared.
“I like catching up with old friends, and your…girlfriend here is an old friend.”
Niles didn’t know if that was true and, to be quite frank, he didn’t care. What mattered was that the woman had told him to leave her alone, and he hadn’t.
“Really?” the butler quirked an eyebrow sharply. “Well, if the two of you are so close, then how come you appear to be following behind her like the sort of man that women try desperately to get away from?”
That seemed to strike a chord with the other man because his face immediately formed a scowl.
“I was not following!” he snapped. “I just so happened to see her, so I hurried over to say hello. If I’d realised that was a crime, I would’ve stopped myself!”
And there it was, Niles thought to himself. The angry exaggeration of a man who couldn’t handle the fact that he was wrong. He’d come across plenty of them in his time (Mr. Sheffield had a lot of friends from old families with even older money who acted the same way), and that gave him the experience necessary to know what to do in this situation.
The most important thing was to stand his ground, and to not back down and let the man have his way or decide that it didn’t involve him.
He couldn’t leave a young woman who’d come to him for help alone like that. If anything, the man’s attitude was making him even more determined to drive him off.
“Perhaps you can stop yourself now,” he said, keeping calm but adding a hint of suggestion to his tone. “Turn around and go back the way you came, and then we’ll have nothing more to say about this.”
That was when the other man scoffed.
“Are you threatening me?” he took a step towards them with his arms outstretched, as though he were daring Niles to do something about the fight that he’d heard in his voice. “Don’t you know who I am?”
Again, Niles made sure to hold his ground.
“Am I supposed to know every spoiled brat in a suit that passes by?” he asked, remaining casual as he did. “I’ve found that at a certain stage, you all tend to blend into one…”
He thought he heard a quiet snort coming from the woman at that, and felt a little bit of pride bubble up in his chest.
But he couldn’t turn fully to share in any kind of triumph – all his insult had done to the man was…well, insult him. And that only served to keep him angry.
“Did you just call me a brat?” the question was accompanied by another step towards them.
“Is there a name that you’d prefer?” Niles retorted sternly. “The police probably have one for whatever you were doing, following my girlfriend for all this time and all this way…”
It was, in truth, a last-ditch attempt. But if this man was anything like the friends that Maxwell Sheffield was better off without, he might listen to something that could potentially damage his reputation. In this case, that could come very handily in the form of a police complaint…
And if the man’s sudden stiffness was anything to go by, his theory had paid off, “You’re gonna call the police over this?”
Niles’ mouth formed a hard line, “If you keep refusing to leave us both be.”
What happened next could only be compared to the standoffs depicted in old Westerns. All three stood there, Niles and the woman who’d asked him for help staring down the man who clearly had less-than-honourable intentions.
And, after it became clear that the pressure wasn’t going to go away, the man finally cracked.
“Fine. Whatever,” he huffed, straightening out his jacket and turning away. “I have better things to do with my time, anyway…”
After sticking them both with one last glare, he marched away, heading back in the direction of the main pathway and out of sight.
It was a few more seconds before it became clear that he truly had gone, and Niles and the woman finally released each other, the latter sighing loudly in relief.
“Oh, praise the Lord, he’s finally beat it!” she exclaimed. She then paused to wipe her face with one hand, and ran a hand through her hair, before looking at Niles again at last.  “…I suppose I should say thank you, for helping me out just then.”
The butler shook his head, “It wasn’t any trouble, Miss; I can assure you of that.”
He was, in truth, just happy to be able to help. It was a small miracle that he had been there at just the right moment to be able to do something, really. If she had come across somebody else who wasn’t quite so willing to play along, he couldn’t guess what might’ve happened! He shuddered to even think…!
But the woman didn’t look completely satisfied with what he’d said.
“Yeah well, whether it was any trouble or not, I feel like I owe you something,” she sounded on the brink of insisting, pausing to think for a moment before she spoke again. “How about we call this whole thing even over a cup of coffee? My treat.”
That…actually sounded like a rather good idea. If she really did insist on thanking him somehow, he’d rather not put her out of her way by making the action too extravagant. It would also mean that he got to escort her back out onto the main path – he could check that the other man wasn’t hiding somewhere, and simply waiting for him to leave before trying it on with her again.
Besides, the woman was rapidly becoming rather pleasant, in his mind. And if her reaction to his hurled insult earlier was anything to go by, they shared a sense of humour, too.
And he wouldn’t mind looking at her eyes again, either…
“I think I can agree to that,” he smiled, giving a slight bow. “Alright then, Miss. You’re on.”
“You don’t have to call me that the whole time, you know,” she told him in return, starting to smile back just before she held out a hand for him to shake. “Just call me C.C.. C.C. Babcock.”
“C.C.,” Niles sounded it out as he straightened up, taking her proffered hand. “That’s a rather unusual name.”
That made her roll her eyes, before she let go of his hand and started to walk, “Ugh, believe me when I say that if you don’t like that, you’ll find the long version to be a whole lot worse.”
“Now, I never said that I didn’t like it. And I’m sure any that longer version can’t possibly be that bad,” the butler replied, falling in to walk right alongside her back up the path.
“You’d be surprised,” C.C. said, before glancing at him thoughtfully out of the corner of her eye. “Although, maybe you wouldn’t be…you haven’t exactly been busting a gut to tell me what your name is…”
Niles chuckled. He hadn’t been meaning to avoid telling her what his name was – it was just that in his profession, people rarely tended to ask. Whenever the family had guests over, or Mr. Sheffield had a party for his company’s backers, most would just click their fingers and expect him to come running – they didn’t bother trying to learn his name, even if somebody told them what it was.
After a while, it just became a habit not to tell anybody. Not that C.C. needed to know that.
“Let’s just say I have plenty of experience in keeping it a secret,” he explained carefully. “I’m Niles. Niles Brightmore.”
And he was the man least like James Bond in the entire world, he thought to himself, whilst trying not to cringe externally as well as in. He couldn’t have sounded less suave just then if he’d tried!
Not that his companion seemed to notice.
“Brightmore, huh?” C.C. raised an eyebrow, starting to smirk. “Rather unusual name…”
Niles picked up on what she was doing immediately, and he felt a pleasing warmth spreading in his chest. It was even strong enough to replace the previous feeling of embarrassment that he’d been feeling.
They really did have the same sense of humour…
He immediately matched her countenance, “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that you were teasing me…”
She looked amused in return, “So what if I am?”
In his mind, Niles knew exactly what, and he offered his arm to her to prove it as they walked along.
“Well, if you are, then I’d have to say that this could be the start of a beautiful friendship…”
……………………………………………..
As the days turned into weeks, Niles became more and more convinced that he wanted it to be more than just a beautiful friendship.
Their coffee together had been a resounding success (the man who’d been following C.C. had turned out to be somebody she’d known from school, and Niles had made her laugh by putting him down some more), and they’d ended up agreeing to meet again. Since that second time, they’d spent practically every day together after work. They grabbed coffee and caught up with the day’s events; they joked and laughed; sometimes they’d even see a movie or go for a walk through Central Park.
And all of it rapidly drew him to the same conclusion: C.C. Babcock was, without a doubt, the most enchanting woman he had ever met. He’d been more than right when he’d thought that they’d had the same sense of humour (they were practically of the same mind, in that regard), and that had eventually led to them forming their own way of communicating via wordplay and bantering. To the outside world, they’d appear to be insulting each other, but they both knew it was only meant in jest, and Niles felt that it only strengthened the bond between them.
He’d never met anybody he’d felt so strongly about, or so close to whenever he was with them. They listened to each other (he’d managed to talk her out of dyeing her hair brown, and she’d – quite rightly, actually – stopped him from growing what would probably have turned out to be a disaster of a moustache), and they had fun together like he’d never imagined was possible!
So much fun, he began wondering what it would be like if…well, if they tried having some…more. He hadn’t been able to help thinking (on, embarrassingly, more than one occasion) about what it would be like to hold her in his arms, hearing her sigh his name in absolute pleasure, and knowing that his hands wandering and exploring over her body were the cause…
But every time he imagined trying to ask her out properly, the words caught in his throat because they knew he’d hit a snag the minute they were out.
C.C. Babcock was not only the woman he was finding himself falling completely head over heels for. She was also a daughter of one of the richest families in New York, an heiress and a socialite in her own right, and several thousand times out of his league.
He wouldn’t have even thought about the possibility in England, with the surname “Babcock” being so common there. But she’d been nothing but straightforward when the time came to discuss who she was – why wouldn’t she be? It was simply who she was, with no complications or awkward parts about it. But Niles, much to his own shame, hadn’t been able to be as honest. He’d avoided telling her what he did for a living, leaving it at the fact that he lived in the city and worked for a Broadway producer (alluding a little to helping around the office, but changing the subject before she could probe further).
He cringed internally whenever he thought about the possibility of her finding out more. He knew what would happen the minute she did – there was no other way anything like that could play out! The gorgeous young women of high society didn’t mix with “the help”, and as much as he wished he could be more than just a butler for her (he’d even considered asking Mr. Sheffield for a raise so he could start saving for an apartment and looking for a better job elsewhere), he knew that the chances of that happening were a long shot.
Just like his chances at being more than friends with her, really.
That was why he’d chosen to keep silent on the issue. He was too much of a coward to tell her what he did, knowing that it couldn’t go anywhere if he didn’t even have a home of his own for it to go to, and he didn’t want to lose her entirely.
He knew that he’d rather be friends with her, than nothing at all.
And seeing her every day kept a smile on his face, just as it was doing right then. He’d just seen her walking through the door of the coffee shop that had become one of their regular meetup points, and he waved her over to the table that he’d saved for them both.
She went and ordered her coffee, and as soon as it was brought over, she launched excitedly into telling him about her day.
“I want to start with the fact that I have some good news.”
Niles took on a look of delighted surprise, “Oh! Has the zoo finally agreed to release you into the wild, at long last?”
C.C. shot him an unamused look – the kind he knew came with a zinger of her own attached.
“You’re a fine one to be making animal jokes, considering I sat down, looked up and wondered if I’d agreed to go for coffee with an orangutan,” she retorted, before bringing her coffee cup up to her lips to take a sip. “Now, do you wanna hear what I have to say, or not?”
The butler replied with an apologetic smile, “Sorry. I absolutely do – please, go ahead.”
“Thank you,” C.C. drank a little from her cup, and then settled it back on the table. “At long last, I finally have a job interview scheduled.”
“A job interview? For a real job?”
If the situation hadn’t been quite so important, and if she clearly hadn’t been so happy about the fact that this was happening at long last, Niles might have considered adding “Other than just scaring the crows in a farmer’s fields?”. But he didn’t – he wasn’t about to spoil their afternoon together by pushing something too far, and he was so happy for her in return that he didn’t to even risk sounding like he wasn’t.
He wanted to be supportive of everything she did, and her getting a job was certainly something to be proud of. She’d already told him that she wanted to work and earn her way in the world rather than simply be a socialite who relied solely on her family’s wealth, so the fact that she had finally gotten the opportunity to prove what she could do was marvellous.
She was whip-smart, driven, and he’d never met a sharper wit in his life – by all rights, employers should have been lining up to ask her to work for them!
She grinned as she answered his question, “Pays real money, and everything.”
“That’s wonderful news!” he nearly cried aloud, only the presence of others in the coffee shop stopping him from being as loud as he was glad. “What’s the job?”
C.C. looked rather pleased with herself as well, “It’s a secretarial position for a Broadway producer.”
Niles felt his smile falter at the corners, and his insides tightened up upon hearing the words.
Only the other week, Mr. Sheffield had been saying that he was thinking of hiring a secretary to work around the office.
It…it couldn’t be that…that she was going to be…
No, it had to just be a coincidence – lots of Broadway producers all over the city were probably looking for staff all at once! There were probably small companies just starting out that nobody had even heard of who could be looking to hire as well! There was hardly a chance that, out of all of them, she could possibly have found any ad that Mr. Sheffield might have placed in a newspaper, before running into any of the other ads for the other (probably more attractive-sounding) companies!
He wasn’t accidentally going to run into her. She wasn’t going to find out exactly what he did for a living. The city was too big and the chances that everything overlapped were too small.
“Brilliant,” he said, trying to settle his stomach’s sudden unease and hide his sudden tense reaction by taking a sip of his drink. “When…when’s your interview?”
“Next Monday, at ten o’clock,” she seemed ready and raring to go already, even though that was still a few days away yet. “So you can bet your life I’ll be getting there at least a little early.”
Keeping his cup in his hand to prepare for another sip, Niles nodded, “Smart move.”
“Yep. I’m gonna present myself perfectly, and that includes being punctual,” C.C. declared happily. “Maxwell B. Sheffield isn’t gonna know what’s hit him!”
Niles almost inhaled his coffee so quickly that it choked him.
Oh, God.
No, no, no…it couldn’t be happening – it couldn’t be that she was going to end up at the mansion! It couldn’t be that they’d see each other every day, or that she’d find out exactly what he did and that he’d twisted the truth (lied, he admitted to himself guiltily) for his own personal gain!
He knew he’d just be kidding himself if he tried to think that, perhaps, she wouldn’t get the position. The only thing he could think to stop it was either to convince her she was worth a better position than that of a secretary, or to scare her away from the mansion with a prank, somehow.
But she was so happy about it, and he had already seemed to be so happy about it, that he couldn’t suddenly turn one-hundred-and-eighty degrees and suddenly present the idea that it was a bad idea. It would probably hurt her, as would pranking her to get her away from the house. And, knowing his luck, it would go doubly wrong and he’d be revealed as the perpetrator, effectively ending their friendship for good when he wasn’t able to explain why he had tried to sabotage her chances at getting a job.
He had no other choice but to come up with a third plan – one that she couldn’t possibly find out about – and keep on encouraging her in the meantime.
He swallowed his too-large mouthful of coffee and tried not to make his chuckle uncertain, “No, he certainly isn’t!”
“Hey, you know what’ll be really fun?” C.C.’s eyes were shining, and she gestured between them. “We could end up bumping into each other at work! You know, seeing as you work for a Broadway producer, and if I nail this interview, I could be working for a Broadway producer…”
Niles felt his smile wobbling again, and he forced it back up onto his face, “Yes…that would be fun, wouldn’t it?”
He was actually thinking about how it could, in fact, be the least fun thing he’d ever experienced. The minute she knew in just what capacity he worked for a Broadway producer and that he’d been lying to her for all of that time, this whole thing would be over. And it was going to be over sooner than he could bear to even think because they couldn’t avoid seeing each other if-
That was when the notion struck him. Avoidance.
As a servant, he knew how to keep himself out of sight and out of mind fairly easily. The mansion was large enough and he knew it well enough that he could be somewhere else at any given moment, away from people that either didn’t want to see him or that he didn’t want to see. And, if push really did come to shove, he could always spend most of the company’s working hours out, running errands.
It would be tough, he had to admit. But he would do it, and in the meantime, he would slowly pretend to be changing his mind on the matter. And, when the time was right, he’d subtly suggest to C.C. that perhaps she was wasted in a secretarial role.
He’d most likely start that off whenever Maxwell made his next big mistake, which couldn’t give the whole thing more than six months, at the most.
That was settled, then. He knew what he had to do, and he’d get started that Monday. But, for the time being, he intended to spend a fun afternoon with C.C..
……………………………………………………
The day came far sooner than Niles was mentally prepared for, but on Monday morning he made sure to have finished with all of his chores by the time nine thirty had rolled around. He spent most of the rest of the time before the next hour struck pacing, letting his stomach tie itself into knots and only starting out of it when he heard the doorbell go.
It was time, and it was his cue to hide upstairs. He didn’t respond at all to Mr. Sheffield shouting for him to answer the door, and he waited as the producer had to come from his office (muttering in annoyance all the way) and answer the door himself.
Niles couldn’t see them from where he was, but he could hear everything.
Maxwell sounded a lot more cheerful than he had done on the way to the door, “Hello there! You must be Miss C.C. Babcock, is that correct?”
Niles could almost see C.C. beaming brightly, probably wearing the smart suit and heels that he’d helped her to pick out, as she answered.
“Why yes, it is…”
“Come on in, it’s very nice to meet you – I am Maxwell Sheffield, I own this company. Well, this entire house, in fact,” the producer joked lightly. “I can only apologise for springing an introduction on you without giving you time to sit and relax and prepare; my wife is out with our children and I haven’t seen our butler for most of the morning…”
“You have a butler?” the interest in C.C.’s voice was tangible, and Niles felt himself wincing at it.
Yes, they had a butler. A butler who was lying to her and hating himself for every part of it, even if he knew he had no other choice…
“Indeed we do. It’s a pity that he doesn’t appear to be about – he must have gone to run some errands, or something,” Maxwell said nonchalantly. Both he and the butler knew that he was used to Niles being out when he wanted something from him. “Oh, well. If all goes just as well as it appears on your resumé, I’m sure you’ll get to meet him, soon enough.”
“Hopefully!” came the cheerful reply, followed by the sound of heels clicking across the floor and fading in the direction of the office.
Niles stayed well out of sight until he heard the office door close and then used the opportunity to go downstairs and head out via the front door. He knew that he had to be out for as long as the interview took and then a little bit after, to let C.C. get some distance away from the house.
It was going to be good practice, for a new routine that kept him out of her sight during work hours.
………………………………………………
It was a routine that turned out to be very much needed. Just as Niles had suspected, C.C. got the job – she told him about it later that day, when they met up for their usual coffee and afternoon chat. Apparently, Mr. Sheffield hadn’t seen another candidate who had her qualifications, or her determination to succeed. It had made her the ideal choice, and he’d called her almost as soon as she’d gotten home to let her know that she was in and that she was to start straight away.
Niles had, once again, pretended to be completely overjoyed for her. And, over the course of her first week or so, he’d feigned his excitement as he chatted with her about how she was finding the company, what she thought of “her” boss, and if she liked the work that he had her doing.
She was delighted with every aspect of it, and Niles noted that she hadn’t once mentioned the family butler that she still had yet to meet.
He’d managed well so far, he thought – he’d kept himself to himself, never cleaned in the same room where company work might be taking place, and delivered lunches to the office either when C.C. was busy using the restroom, or left it in the fridge for them to find under the guise of having to “run errands” or “pick something up” outside of the mansion.
At this stage, and after what had been the most careful nine days of his life, he’d made it to the Friday afternoon of a long weekend. C.C. wouldn’t be due in until Tuesday, and he could relax for a little while. Of course, he’d see her for their usual meetings, but the pressure would be off him around the mansion.
It was very close to five right then – she’d most likely be packing her things up for the day, and he felt quite protected in the kitchen, out of sight and finishing the last of his chores for the minute by cleaning down the counters.
The only door he expected to hear was the faint sound of the front door slamming.
The one he got was the whoosh of the dining room door swinging open, causing his head to snap up.
His eyes met the sight of a very angry Mr. Sheffield, stood there with a look in his eyes like he’d just spotted the target of his wrath.
“Niles, I need to see you in the office, right now,” the producer’s tone was commanding, and he thrust a finger in the direction of the dining room door, indicating that the butler should go through.
Niles stiffened. It might have been close to five, but it wasn’t yet – he hadn’t heard C.C. leaving, and there was a good chance that she was still in the office. If he even tried to head in the direction of the office, he’d run into her straight away!
He had to stall. There was no other way – if he could keep his employer in the kitchen for long enough, C.C. would have to leave and then the way would be clear.
“Right now, sir? I…can’t it be dealt with out here?” he gestured to the rest of the surfaces around the room. “I am in the middle of-”
“My office. Right now. No more questions or excuses.”
The producer’s next action left no room for any arguing, either – he marched out the door again, obviously expecting his butler to follow.
And in that very moment, Niles thought he saw his life flash before his eyes.
It was over. He couldn’t linger and keep on hiding in the kitchen any longer because he’d run the risk of getting in trouble with Maxwell if he did. And he knew that even if he didn’t see C.C. in the office, she’d probably spot him on the way there as she headed for the front door.
She was going to find out and they wouldn’t be friends anymore; there was nothing more he could do about it.
All he could do was make his sullen and very sorry way towards the office, walking straight through the open door. He hadn’t done that without checking first in a long time, but now it didn’t matter anymore.
Not when he could see her staring at him out of the corner of his eye upon his entrance into the room.
Maxwell was back at his desk, waiting with the same scowl on his face that he’d had before.
“Ah, there you are, at last,” he picked up something from his desk and showed it to Niles. It was a handheld mirror – one that had belonged to the producer’s mother, as far as the butler could remember – and it was cracked straight across the glass. “Can you explain to me how I found this, broken in the bathroom?”
Niles couldn’t even think of answering Maxwell’s question right then (not that he knew the answer, anyway). He could feel C.C.’s eyes boring into the back of his head, probably silently demanding an explanation that she would get in a moment, and he could feel himself burning beetroot red with the shame that he felt.
He hung his head, mumbling, “I’m sorry…”
He couldn’t see Maxwell’s face because his eyes were glued to the floor, but Niles did hear the producer give a frustrated sigh.
“I’m sure you are, but saying sorry isn’t going to fix this mirror, Niles!”
The butler then felt his stomach clench. That was another cue – the one that told him it was time to come clean.
“I wasn’t talking to you, sir.”
He then looked over his shoulder at where (surprisingly) C.C. was still stood. The expression on her face was unreadable in return.
And that hurt Niles more than words could say. As they’d gotten to know one another, he’d always been able to gauge what she was thinking about or feeling. But the fact that he suddenly couldn’t…
He didn’t like to know what that meant.
And speaking of not knowing things, that was when Maxwell rounded the corner of his desk, coming to stand between them with his hands on his hips.
“Hang on a minute…! How do you two know each other?” he asked confusedly, looking from one of them to the other, as though he were watching a tennis match. “I don’t think I’ve ever even seen the two of you in the same room together!”
Niles didn’t reply, and let his eyes return to the floor. He didn’t know how much of an aura he was giving off, but he knew that if it was as strong as his feelings on the matter were, then it would be obvious to everyone present how much he wanted the ground to swallow him whole.
It certainly became obvious enough to Maxwell. The look of confusion still on his features morphed into one of slight embarrassment the longer they all stood there in silence, and his arms fell away from his hips to dangle uselessly at his sides.
He shifted on the spot, before clearing his throat, “Right. I, um…I’ll leave you two to…talk things over. I-If either of you, well, need anything, just…y-you know where to find me…”
He then gave them both one last, brief glance each, and edged his way between them to hurry for the exit.
About the only favour he’d done by the end of it was closing the door behind him. Niles thought that at least that way, the entire household didn’t have to witness his humiliation.
His humiliation, and his heartbreak. He could feel it starting to crack in his chest, as C.C. took a few meaningful steps towards him.
“Is there something you wanna tell me?” she asked, folding her arms across her chest and cocking her head a little bit to one side. “Like why you didn’t think to mention that you’re Maxwell Sheffield’s butler?”
The pressure of holding it in was too much. He’d kept it all inside for too long to no avail and only failure as the end result, and now it wanted to burst outwards. It had to burst outwards.
And it did.
“Because I’m a coward,” he admitted at long last, closing his eyes painfully. “A coward who got embarrassed by what he does, and then got afraid that you might not want to see him anymore, if you found out.”
He slowly opened his eyes again, feeling the urge to continue and explain, and letting everything spill out before C.C. could step in and tell him that they were done.
He didn’t want it to end yet. Not without getting to tell her how he felt first.
“I…like you. Very much, C.C.. I think I like you more every time I see you, and get to spend time with you,” he said, feeling more miserable and pathetic with every word. “But I am nowhere near your league! Even if I could hope that you feel the same way, I couldn’t possibly hope to keep you in the life that you’re used to! I’m a butler; I cook and clean and serve other people, and I live my entire life out of one room upstairs in this very house!”
He wandered over to the desk and let himself lean against it, feeling that it was the best he could manage without physically curling up on the floor, and wiped ineffectively at his eyes before he finished what he wanted to say.
“I can’t afford anything else, and I couldn’t ask you to even think of giving me a chance when I can’t even afford my own home…”
From the angle he was staring at, he could only see her heels slowly make their way across the floor to stand in front of him again.
What would she say? What was there to be said? The only thing he could think that she might do was cancel their coffee meeting (for that day, as well as forever), and then try to avoid him whenever she could at work. Not that she’d have to try very hard – he wouldn’t make it difficult or awkward for her, and he’d mostly stay out of the way whenever the company was open for its business hours.
Not that what C.C. said next was anything like what he’d thought or expected.
“Why is that a problem? There’s plenty of room in mine for us both.”
Her words forced him to look up again, his breath catching in his throat. His heart began to pound harder than it had before, and his head felt like it was spinning as his thoughts were racing.
Had she really just said that? That she wanted to be with him as well? It sounded like she had – but it couldn’t be! Not after what he’d done, and…and…well, everything!
“…What?” his mind scraped around for the words that it had dropped upon hearing her speak. “You really want to…but…I lied to you!”
C.C. huffed out an incredulous laugh.
“Yeah, but you weren’t very good at it! I might not have seen you until now, but I’ve heard Mr. Sheffield yelling at you for over a week!” she cried out. “How many British people called Niles who work for Broadway producers could there possibly be in this town?”
Well, that just made Niles feel like an idiot. He’d imagined that she hadn’t had a clue it was him in the house. But when she put it the way that she did, it only made sense that she’d worked it out so quickly.
“Oh…I suppose I wasn’t being as subtle as I thought I was,” he sighed. “I really am sorry.”
C.C. shook her head softly.
“Don’t worry too much about it. I was kind of holding back on you, too, not letting you know that I knew it was you,” she took in a breath, apparently readying herself before finishing what she wanted to say. “I was…terrified by what my family and a lot of my high society friends would think of me dating a servant.”
Niles felt his heart leap into his mouth, and he thought every part of him might have frozen. He was certainly listening more intently than he ever had before, to anything that had ever been said to him by anybody.
He knew her family would take umbrage at the idea of a butler being anywhere near her (and not carrying a tray of something she’d asked for), but her words suggested that there was still more to come.
“But I’ve gotten to know you, and all your little habits and foibles, and I’ve realised something very important,” she took his hands and held them. “I don’t give a flying rat’s ass what they think.”
Niles felt the fear gripping his heart suddenly let go and the corners of his mouth started to pull upwards, “You don’t?”
“Not one little bit,” C.C. smiled at him in return. “And spending all this time sorting out my own feelings for myself has made things easier.”
“How much easier?” Niles asked, his curiosity growing.
Her smile became a grin, “Let me show you…”
With that said, she closed the gap between them in the most wonderful kiss.
It was nothing like the kiss she’d given him when they’d first met. It wasn’t born out of desperation, or a need to demonstrate anything to anybody else. It was the kind that didn’t take long for either of them to melt into, and Niles felt his hands travelling from C.C.’s to curl around her waist and her back, settling like they belonged there, and he welcomed C.C.’s own arms snaking around his neck. She pulled him close and traced her tongue lightly over his lips, which Niles was delighted to be able to take as a challenge as he opened his mouth and let it slip inside. Her responding moan sounded like music, and for a while they simply explored each other, both clearly relieved to have everything out in the open at last.
They only pulled away when they needed air but continued to hold each other close.
“Oh…” Niles eventually breathed, before letting a grin emerge. He even wiggled his eyebrows for added effect. “I think I caught the gist, but can you run it by me again to be sure?”
C.C. laughed, “Alright, but you’d better not make me explain it again…”
She leaned in again, and Niles captured her lips in his once more. That time, it wasn’t as long or as intense as before, and C.C. cupped his cheek in her hand as they pulled away.
“Getting it a little better?” she purred.
“Absolutely,” he replied, relaxing and resting his forehead against hers. “I don’t think we’re going to have any misunderstandings in the future.”
She chuckled deep in her chest, “Can you imagine what would’ve happened, if you’d opened the door and that had been when you’d met me for the first time?”
“Oh, misunderstandings aplenty,” Niles said casually. “The first one probably would’ve happened when I opened the door, saw you and immediately forgot how to speak.”
“Smooth talker,” C.C. smirked in return, caressing one finger down his chest and starting to trace patterns on his tie. “So, my new boyfriend’s a butler, huh?”
Said butler thought his heart might burst in his chest, hearing her say that.
He tried not to let his voice shake as he responded, “Yes…and my new girlfriend probably still thinks it’s rather pathetic.”
“Oh, resoundingly,” C.C. confirmed teasingly, before poking him lightly in the chest. “But I’m not gonna hold it against you.”
That was when Niles sense an opportunity, and he smirked, “Are there other things that you’d rather hold against me?”
She pretended to look him up and down, before matching his countenance.
“Perhaps,” she mused aloud, her voice just the right side of tantalising. “If you play your cards right.”
Niles let his eyebrows raise a little, “Another thing you that you should know about me, then; I am an excellent hand at card games.”
The hand that had poked him in the chest started caressing instead, “Well then, I might just have to get a little demonstration of how good your hand can be…”
“Oh, you’ll get more than that, my dear,” he growled, leaning in and kissing her cheek – very close to her ear. “How does tonight strike you?”
C.C.’s breath noticeably hitched, “Pick me up at eight?”
Niles grinned, and kissed her there again, “You, Miss Babcock, have got yourself a deal.”
She kissed his cheek as well, before untangling herself from his arms, “Then I’ll see you tonight, my Butler Boy…”
After picking up her bag from the green loveseat and blowing a kiss at him from over her shoulder, she left the office. It wasn’t long after that that Niles heard the front door opening and closing, and Maxwell soon hurried back into the room, saying something that the butler simply wasn’t listening to.
The producer was probably demanding to know what the hell was going on, but Niles couldn’t hear a word of it to confirm the theory. Not that he had time to be thinking about something like that.
He was too busy planning his first proper date with C.C. in his head, and thinking about how a pair of stunning blue eyes looked better than Central Park in mid-to-late summer.

Meeting Prince Bismarck
         "Jamie! What's this?"
         "My house."
"That's not a house! That's a," Claire swallowed the swear word, "castle!"
         Jamie laughed.
         "Well, it's not that big."
He had driven up the driveway, then turned left around the circular flower bed that separated the driveway from the house and stopped just in front of the entrance.
With each meter that they had come closer, more details had become visible. Before their eyes appeared a large, rectangular building with three floors. An eight-step stone staircase led to a plateau, from which one could enter the house through a high and heavy oak door. Implied Corinthian columns, held in a light brown color, lined the front door. The door and the windows of the first floor were rounded at the top. The windows of the other two floors reflected the rectangular shape of the house. The conclusion of the third floor was a gable triangle. Inside of it was a coat of arms held by two lions. Below the roof a frieze of flowers and tendrils went around the whole house. Like the columns, the frieze was held in a light brown color – a clear contrast to the rest of the house, which was painted in white.
Before Jamie got out and opened Claire's door, she was standing in front of the house, staring at it with wonder.
"A classic example of classicism," she said mischievously.
Jamie took her hand and led her up the steps to the front door.
"Now we have to be cautious. Please step beside the door."
         Claire looked at him, puzzled.
"Why do we have to be cautious when we enter your own house?"
"My friend Prince Bismarck is something ... well, let's say - spontaneously - and I do not want him to run you over accidentally."
         "Jamie ...?"
He did not answer her questions, but placed her behind one of the large flower tubs that stood to the right and left of the door. Then he took his keychain out of his jacket and carefully opened the front door.
Before they knew it, a small black ball of fur, no larger (and probably no thicker) as Claire's forearm,  raced out of the door. The 'Tour de Force' of this little black Something was accompanied by a barrage of barks, wuffs and other indefinable noises. Then Claire suddenly realized why Jamie had put her in safe distance. Obviously, the little black creature had lost control of his bladder while rejoicing over the reunion with its master. Several wet spots on the flagstones testified to this.
"Enough Bismarck!" Jamie said emphasis and after a few more jumps of joy the dog stopped and sat down. Then he looked up expectantly. Jamie stroked the head of the little dog several times, talking calmly to him, then he grabbed its neck.
         "Come on, Claire."
Jamie carried the dog into the house and Claire followed him. They entered a square entrance hall about the size of Claire's entire living room. Jamie disappeared into a room on the right side of the front door. She followed him and saw that it was a small bathroom for guests. On the wall to the left of this room was a framed quote in Gothic script: "Nothing will turn a man's home into a castle more quickly and more effectively than a dachshund. - Queen Victoria" Claire read it, rolled her eyes and smiled. Then she looked at Jamie.
"My little friend, Prince Bismarck, is not quite clean yet ... especially when he is in his joyful welcome mode ...."
He took a moistened washcloth and cleaned the animal. Then he wrapped it in a towel. When he returned to the hall, Claire saw that the dog Jamie was holding was a small black short-haired dachshund. The animal looked at her with big brown eyes.
         "Bismarck, that's Claire. Be polite!"
"Claire, that's my friend Prince Bismarck!"
She smiled and shook her head.
         "May I?"
"Of course! He does not bite, he still has baby teeth. "
         "How old is he?"
"Four months. Usually I do not leave him alone overnight, but ... I'll take him with me to the office. He stays with my secretary when I have to go to court ... "

Claire gently stroked Bismarck's head and before she knew it, he began to lick her hand.
"That's fine, old boy. Give the lady a hand kiss. "
After some more petting Jamie put the animal on the floor.
"Ready for a little tour of the house?"
         "Gladly."
He took her hand and led her through a double door separating the hall from the rest of the living area. Through a corridor they came to other rooms.                   "Right here is the library."
Jamie opened a large oak door and led Claire into the room. Three sides of the room had shelves of dark wood in which she saw books of all sizes and age. In the middle of the room were two black leather sofas opposite. In the middle stood a large coffee table, on which a glass ball vase was placed. Fresh lilac branches were sticking out of it. Their scent was clearly perceptible in the whole room. A stack of magazines and some current dailies could also be found on the table. On the fourth wall she saw a large window front, from which one could see part of the garden. A desk, which Claire assumed was from the time of Biedermeier, stood in front of the windows. Two chairs, one in front of and one behind the desk came from the same era. Not far from the desk, but closer to the window, stood a wooden pillar. On the top of the plate stood a white-and-gold porcelain pot that harbored a large green fern. A not inconsiderable number of different cacti were lined up on the window sills. Behind the desk stood, a bit offset, a Biedermeier cabinet.  Its upper half was glazed. Behind it, glasses and bottles became visible and Claire guessed that Jamie was using this cabinet as a bar. Then she felt his hand lightly on her back.
         "Do you like it?"
         "Very much."
"Come, I'll show you the rest."
He led her through the hallway.
"The living- and dining room," Jamie said as he opened the next door. A large room was displayed in front of Claire. A long dining table with numerous chairs stood on its right side. On the wall beyond stood several sideboards, over which hung several paintings showing various persons and a ship in a stormy sea. On the right side of the room, they came to an arrangement of leather sofas and leather armchairs placed between another window front and a large fireplace. Claire tried to estimate the size of the room, but she forgot it because there was so much to see. A door dividing the window front caught Claire's attention.
"Where is this door leading?" she asked softly.
         "Into the winter garden."
Again she felt his hand lightly on her back as he slowly led her forward.
Claire's eyes widened once more. The winter garden turned out to be a miniature version of the dining and living room. There was a smaller dining table with six chairs, and four large leather chairs in front of a fireplace. Numerous flowers - orchids of various kinds, small palm trees, orange and citrus trees and other green plants, stood on the windowsills or in clay and porcelain containers between the seating arrangements. Another door on the left led to a large garden.
         "Jamie ..."
         "Do you like it?"
         "It is ... amazing!"
In Claire's voice there was astonishment, but also exhaustion. She would need days, if not weeks, to get to know this house, and she had seen only a few rooms. Slowly he pulled her close and kissed her gently on her forehead.
"Come on, there is more to see."
When she opened her eyes again and looked into his bright face, she thought for a moment that he resembled a teenager who was about to share a big find with a friend. She had experienced so many facets of him - the serious, educated and purposeful lawyer. The loving and caring friend. The forward-thinking strategist. The formidable protector. But this site she especially loved. And she wondered how many - or rather how few - people knew this side of him. The answer to that came only a few minutes later. Slowly they had gone back into the hallway. Bismarck, sniffing at this or that piece of furniture and occasionally making a little sound, always in tow. Jamie, his arm still around her waist, opened another door.
         "The kitchen."
The room they entered was clearly different from any room of the house she had seen until now. The kitchen was a bright and friendly room with all the modern equipment one could think of. Just to the left  side of the door stood a plaited dog basket with a red checkered cushion, in front of it a feeding and a water bowl. Above the basket hung a framed picture that showed a kind of cartoon drawing. It showed a brown dachshund in the costume of a dragon and the lettering: "Dachshunds are dragons in disguise".
         "Beware the dragon," Jamie whispered.
"Oh yeah, sure," she whispered back, as the little black dragon suddenly squeezed between her feet to his water bowl and started to drink. Once again she glanced around the room. On the right side of the room was a white bench that surrounded a large table on three sides. Claire paused for a moment. Then she looked questioningly at Jamie.
         "What is? Something missing?"
         She hesitated for a moment.
"You told me so much about your family. Where are they?"
         Jamie swallowed.
"They ...  they don’t live here."
Although he answered quickly, Claire didn’t miss the sadness in his voice.
When he saw Claire's questioning look, he continued:
"I'll explain it to you later. When we are on the island ... and ... and have more time. Is that okay for you?"
         "I'm sorry if I ..."
"No, Claire. It's okay that you asked. I ... I want to tell you. But as I said ... when we have more time."
         She nodded.
         "Ready for the second floor?"
         "Yes. Lead on."

Jamie led them back down the corridor to the hall, from where a staircase led to the upper floors. The stairs were wide enough for two people and so Jamie put his arm around Claire's waist again and they walked up next to each other, followed by Prince Bismarck right behind them. Arriving on the first floor, Jamie led her past several smaller rooms.
"These are rooms that I don’t use right now. Only when I have guests."
He pointed to the furniture covered with large sheets.
"On the third floor there are a few other small rooms. I use them as storerooms and for supplies."
They went back the whole way and stopped in front of a double door. Jamie opened one of the doors and motioned for her to enter.
"This is my work and living room."
The room was almost as big as the living room below, but without the dining area. It was dominated by a large, desk obliquely placed to the window front. Behind it there stood a modern leather armchair that matched the dark color of the desk. Under the desk she saw a plaited dog basket with a dark red pillow. Claire went to the window front. From it she could see not only in the garden, but over a small forest also the Havel. Carefully she ran her fingers over the few plants that stood on the window sill: another large fern, a blooming violet, and an orchid with a panicle of red blossoms. Then she turned around. To the right of the door there was a large fireplace, in front of it a small and a larger leather sofa, as well as two or three small side tables. To the right and left of the fireplace hung various paintings. One showed a couple in noble clothes. Claire suspected that it showed Jamie's parents. Another picture showed a large, gray mansion with several floors and a tall tower next to it. Both buildings were embedded in a green hilly landscape. The wall opposite the desk was filled with bookshelves that reached to the ceiling. When Claire turned around again, she saw that Jamie had sat down in the desk chair. Bismarck had made himself comfortable in the dog basket at his feet.
"You two spend a lot of time together up here, right?"
It was more a statement than a question.
         "Yes, a lot of time."
"I understand that well. It is really cozy. I can imagine that you can work or relax here with joy."
"That's true. Especially in winter. "
"And where does the last door on this floor lead?"
         "Only to a bathroom."
"To a bathroom? Then ... you have your bedchamber on the third floor? "
         Jamie grinned.
"No. As I said, there are only storage rooms. "
Claire looked perplexed. But he just smiled and stayed silent. Then he got up, pulled her close and kissed her.
         "Can you keep a secret?"
         "Sure."
She said the word with all conviction she was capable of. But at the same time, she was not so sure that she would be able to keep her promise. What kind of secret would he reveal to her? What hidden side of him would she now get to know now? Would it be a positive or a bad surprise?
         "Good, then come on."
He led her to the middle of the shelf and put his right hand against one side of one of the drawers. A click sound was heard and suddenly the right side of the shelf came off the wall. The secret door opened to a bedroom that Claire would have expected in an early 18th-century castle, but not in a villa of today's Berlin. Carefully, she stepped over the threshold and marveled at the world that offered itself to her. In the middle of the room, which dominant color was a dark blue, stood a large four-poster bed. Claire estimated its age to be at least two hundred years, if not more. To the right and left of it were small side tables of the same color and with the same carvings as the pillars of the bed. In front of the bed was a large chest with iron fittings. On the left side of the room stood a massive wardrobe. When she turned around, she saw that even this room had a fireplace. Next to the fireplace stood a small table with a mirror. Behind it was the only window of the room. Two armchairs in front of the fireplace completed the furnishing of it. Carefully, Claire slid her right hand over the blue wallpaper and the silver leaves woven into it. Then she turned to Jamie.
"It ... it's beautiful," she whispered.
Jamie, who had approached her, gently put his arms around her and looked at her.
"Over the generations, parts of this house have been renovated and altered over and over again. But not this room. Since my great-grandfather built this house, it has always been the bedroom of the couple that continued our line. Apart from my family, you are the only person I have allowed to enter this room and I wish nothing more than to carry you across this threshold as my wife ... one day."
She looked at him. Then she turned her face away, looked down, and was silent.
         "Claire, what is it?"
         "Are you sure, Jamie?"
"Yes of course! Why do you ask?"
         "What about Jeanne Luigi?"
         "What is with her?"
She saw in his eyes that he was genuinely surprised. This calmed and disturbed her at the same time.
"Didn’t you see how she looked at you? I thought she would devour you alive."
         "She is a married woman!"
"I know. But you know the saying: That's a reason – not an obstacle."
"Claire, for me that's a reason and a hindrance and an absolute taboo! She is the wife of a client!"
"She looked at you like ..."
"I don’t care. She doesn’t mean anything to me. Absolutely nothing. The only woman who means something, everything, the only woman with whom I want to share my life stands in front of me!"
Before she could say anything, he kissed her with an intensity of which she didn’t know if it was fed by passion or rage – or both. As they parted, she looked at him for a moment, quiet and thoughtful. Then she said:
“Please, forgive me. It's none of my business anyway."
         "Isn’t it?"
         "Is it?"
"Yes it is. And you don’t have to apologize for asking. I'm glad you did it."
He pulled her close. Then he whispered:
"We are ... not ready to tell each other ... all that is to tell. That's fine. We will endure this time. Our relationship will grow and so will our trust. I wish to share everything with you. But until we are ready, everything we tell each other should be true. Can you agree?"
         "Yes. Yes, I agree."
He smiled and she saw, how his whole body relaxed.
"Thank you, Claire. And now I'll tell you another secret."
He went to the wardrobe and reached with one hand to its top. As if guided by an invisible hand, the cabinet moved to the left with a rolling noise. Behind it a door became visible.
"This one leads to the bathroom ..."

Hold Me in this Winter Weather (1/1)
Tumblr media
Summary: Killian Jones just can’t seem to warm up. The solution? Professional cuddling in the arms of a David Nolan: handsome farmer and winter enthusiast.
Romantic Captain Charming, Rated G, 3k words. (Ao3)
For @phiralovesloki, because her birthday was last week and because she deserves a little bit of winter cuddles, no? You requested this some time ago, but I wanted to do it right for you! I hope you love it just as much as I love you!
Special thanks (and my eternal appreciation) to @hencethebravery, aka Queen of the Trashcan, for the excellent beta job AND for making the gorgeous edit seen above. If you want to check out any of her CC fics, you can find them in her CC tag here!
The story of how Killian found the idea was actually rather dull compared to other tales he had hidden up his sleeves. It went like this: man sits at his computer after a very frigid, winter day at the docks. Man cannot seem to warm up, even after the usual reliable methods of heavy fleece blanket, two pairs of wool socks, and a mug of coffee had been attempted. Perhaps out of curiosity, but most probably out of boredom and a bit of desperation, he opens his internet browser and unashamedly types out “Fast ways to get warmer.”
Spoiler alert: going to a professional cuddler was actually not the first suggestion that appeared on the screen, and it certainly wasn’t the first thing he tried. Turned out, a hot shower did the trick, an idea he came up with himself thank you very much. But Killian was a man of learning, and how could he not read up on the transfer of body heat once it was suggested to him by some hipster blog. Not just any transfer of body heat. Professional cuddling.
Then of course, before he could even think about indulging in a hot shower, he had to answer the question What the actual fuck is professional cuddling? Luckily for him, the internet is a wealth of information.
And oh, he liked what he found. The excitement wasn’t loud in the, “Call your lads and go hire a professional cuddler right this bloody second” kind of way, but rather a quiet encouragement in the back of his mind whispering “Wow, what would it feel like to be properly held?”
Anyone else would have outright laughed in his face if they saw how seriously he scrolled through the exceptionally long list of professional huggers. With a sigh of frustration, Killian glared at the screen. Not one cuddlist looked any more capable than the others. The longer he looked, the more he felt like was shopping for a human person more than looking for the right person to provide a service.
In the end, he e-mailed the company with the request that they choose someone for him. He had no preferences, just that the person be within traveling distance. The next day, he received just what he had asked for. The reply e-mail expressed the director’s elation that Killian was joining their community, ensured the safety of signing up for the service, and asked him when he would like his appointment.
In the week and a half leading up to meeting his cuddlist, Killian only told a select few people about what he decided to do. There were his old navy mates, Robin and Will, who wanted to know why he couldn’t attend their usual Friday evening pub outing. Killian didn’t really see the point in lying, but changed his tune when all Robin and Will wanted to talk about was, What if she’s pretty? and How will you possibly survive an hour in the embrace of a women who specializes in snuggling? They both received proper thwacks on the back of their heads, and only shut up about it when Killian shoved beer into their hands. Perhaps it was his own fault that Killian didn’t correct them when they assumed that the cuddlist would be a woman, because after awhile, he started believing it himself.
In the end, he didn’t care. His own masculinity would survive the trip to the professional cuddler’s house and if he was looking forward to being held for the first time in years, no one needed to know. With Liam gone there was no family to share affection with. As far as romantic affection went, Killian hadn’t sworn it off after Milah’s death, but he was definitely steering clear for a while. His own rules said nothing about platonic hugs, though, and it was a loophole he was thankful he found.
When the day of his appointment arrived, he could count the number of things he knew about his cuddlist on his one hand.
D. Nolan lived on a farm just outside the city. It was exactly 27 miles away, and in traffic and weather, it would take him under an hour to get there on time. Miss Nolan was apparently a favorite of the company. Happy clients had all left five stars on the website, and the company director who sent him there promised that the clean aroma of fresh air would be well worth the lengthy drive.
Miss Nolan lived in a farmhouse the same color of the expanse of glistening snow that surrounded it. It was complete with navy shutters and a porch that wrapped nearly all the way around the home. The air did smell clean, with traces of warm hay and horses that reminded him of those few days Liam took him riding when they were boys. It could’ve been the nostalgia, or maybe it was the warm light that seeped out of the windows, but he felt ready to face whatever he would find inside.
He rang the doorbell, snow crunching under his feet as he shifted his weight. The tips of his fingers began to ache with the bite of the cold, so he shoved his non-prosthetic hand into his pocket, hot breath clouding in front of his face.
Maybe something had gone wrong with the scheduling? Either D. Nolan wasn’t home or she just hadn’t heard-
The door swung open and, oh.
Mister D. Nolan.
“Hi, there. Are you Killian?” the man asked, a stupid welcoming smile on his face that Killian couldn’t help but return.
“I am,” Killian replied, a nervous chuckle intruding his words. “And you’re D. Nolan I take it?”
“David Nolan, but just David fine,” the man supplied. “Please, come in!”
The inside of the house looked exactly like Killian pictured it might look. The inviting, comfortable arrangement of the home looked like it had come right off of some folksy interior design website. He couldn’t tell if it was the constant flow of visitors or just David’s personal taste that the place was kept so clean. Killian’s own woolen socks plodded across smooth hardwood floors as David gave him a brief tour of the house.
Killian followed politely, taking in each room as David explained that he lived alone and had inherited the house and farm from his late mother. He seemed like the type of guy to enjoy the freedoms of living on a farm, slightly calloused hands and scruff along his chin and neck. But there was a softness to him, as well. Compared to Killian, who came dressed in a knitted, grey turtleneck and soft jeans, David wore a loose, red long sleeved henley and sweatpants. He treated Killian as though they had been friends for years, lounging around hugging and enjoying the slight bite of the winter chill.
Then, of course, there was the fact that the inside of the house was still decked out for Christmas. From the soft lights that lined doorways to the lingering aroma of evergreen candles, Killian thought that maybe he had fallen into some Hallmark Channel movie. Lonely man seeks physical affection in a house that tangibly feels like warm holiday cheer.
“Christmas was two weeks ago, mate,” Killian commented, eyeing the wreaths and stockings that hung from the fireplace. David leaned against the mantel, warming his hands by the toasty blaze.
“I like to drag it out as long as I can. There’s something about hugging by a christmas tree that brings people back to their childhoods, but I took the tree down a few days ago. Didn’t have the heart to pack the rest of it away just yet.” Clapping his hands together, he joined Killian where he sat stiffly on the couch.
“I received your payment and signed contract a few days ago, so we’re all set to get started whenever you’d like. Do you have any questions?” David asked.
Killian had read the contract over twice before he signed it, not wanting to accidentally cross any boundaries. It wasn’t rocket science, though. The session would play out platonically, nothing sexual. Even platonic kisses to cheeks or forehead needed to be exchanged on a consent basis. Killian doubted David would want any of that with him. Either of them could terminate the session at any time they pleased, for any reason. Both of them would be fresh and clean, as well, per the contract’s regulations. He’d done the research. He knew what to expect. There was just one thing he hadn’t taken into account.
“Am I your first male client?” Killian asked nervously, fingers winding through those of his prosthetic. David’s eyebrows shot upwards towards his hairline, but then he was vigorously shaking his head.
“About half my regular clients are male. Professional hugging isn’t just for women.”
“No, no, I know. I just didn’t want you to feel uncomfortable at all.” David offered a shrug that was both indifferent and friendly.
“I’m more than fine with having male clients. Are you comfortable?”
“I think so,” Killian said slowly. David paused, seemingly unconvinced so Killian amended, “Yes. Yes, I’m sure.”
“Then let’s get started!”
David led Killian onto an enclosed porch at the back of the house. He’d set up a few atmospheric candles, which flickered in the calming light of the late afternoon. Killian felt the warmth of the setting winter sun through the diffused clouds in the sky. Fuschia light spilled across the aged porch and into David’s hair as he added wood to the small stove. In between the window and the side of the house, a cushiony futon laid on the ground. The sides were caged in by an array of soft pillows. A few layers of fleece and cotton quilts had been spread out on the billowy mattress, enticing Killian to just collapse onto it.
David plopped down first, stretching his legs out like a cat before propping his head up on his hand. The futon had appeared big enough at first glance, but now with David sprawled out across it, Killian wondered if it would fit both of them on it. David seemed to realize what he was thinking, so he gave a welcoming smile and patted the space beside him.
Then, of course, there was the brief moment of sheer panic when Killian remembered he didn’t know how to cuddle with someone who was bigger than him. Most people he’d ever had in his arms enjoyed laying on top of him, head curled under his chin, a handful of women and men who tended to be smaller than him in size.  David was different, and Killian couldn’t help but feel just a bit intimidated.  What if he made a bloody fool of himself because he couldn’t even cuddle without fucking it up?
Killian hadn’t noticed David rise to his knees, but was snapped out of his thoughts when the man grabbed his hand and tugged gently. There was a split second where everything went blank, and Killian couldn’t hear anything except the roaring in his ears, and then there was David.
They fell into place as if they’d done it a thousand times. With David’s gentle guidance, Killian settled onto David’s chest, arms falling to lightly cling at the sides of his shirt. One of David’s hands reached down to tug Killian’s leg over his, a more comfortable position for both of them. Killian had to bite in the inside of his cheeks to keep from sighing too loudly. He couldn’t remember a time that he felt so safe. For what seemed like decades, it had always been “Killian against the world.” But the way David was holding him took the weight off of his shoulders. How could such a simple embrace say so just what he needed to hear so clearly? You can let your guard down, no one will hurt you here.
“How’s this?” David asked, little huffs of breath swirling through Killian’s soft hair. Killian didn’t have words to describe how it was. It was more affection than he’d seen in years, just in the gentleness of the way David ran his fingers down his back and through his hair. It was the ease with which Killian practically melted into nothingness, held together only by the vibrations in his nerves. It was feeling the rise and fall of David’s chest, hearing the steady beat in his chest.
But most of all, it was the quiet desire in the back of Killian’s mind that wanted more than this.
“This is good,” he finally replied, throat dry.
“Good.” David’s arms tightened around him, and Killian felt him rest his cheek onto his head.
They laid like that for three hours, and when Killian realized how much time had passed, he kind of freaked out.
Granted, it was a wonderful three hours, which is probably how it passed so quickly without either of them realizing it. Nearly every second was spent in the other’s arms. As soon as their muscles began feeling stiff in one position, David would lean back and allow Killian to settle back in another way. It was easier as time passed, too. They talked and napped and joked and told stories. Killian admitted that the whole reason he found out about this sort of thing was because he was cold, to which David laughed and replied, “That’s a new one.”
The minutes flew by as David caressed the side of Killian’s cheek and down his neck, his rough fingers a pleasant contrast against the soft scruff of his face. In David’s arms, Killian began to unravel. The last stones of his defenses were torn down with such reverence, Killian found himself not wanting to hide himself anymore. The truth was, he was lonely, a little damaged, and no one had ever held him like they wanted more than just the temporary heat of his embrace. When he told David, the man smiled softly against the back of Killian’s shoulder.
“You’re a good man, Killian,” David told him. “You deserve someone who will appreciate you for all the wonderful things you are.”
Killian’s eyes fell shut, and he turned himself around so that he could gather David into his arms. With David’s lips against his ear, Killian could hear him chuckle, “I’m going to have to keep an eye on you, you might just steal my job.” A gentle smile lifted Killian’s lips, but the heat of the stove and the last drops of the sunset had turned his eyes heavy.
“It’s alright Killian, rest.”  So he did.
And when he woke up, he realized it was eight o’clock and he had overstayed his welcome by two hours. He stirred, still wrapped in David’s arms.
The polite thing to do probably would have been to gently wake David, apologize for staying longer than he paid for, and make sure that David knew the reason Killian couldn’t ever come back again had nothing to do with his his cuddling abilities. He would, of course, leave out the part that it had had everything to do with Killian’s tendency to fall in love quickly, without warning.
So he left. He wrote a note with a brief apology, blew out the lit candles, got in his truck, and drove away. The next morning he contacted David’s company and made sure he received payment for the extra two hours. He even left David five stars on the website.
And that was that.
That is, until he was getting into his truck, enjoying the breezy spring weather as he made his way back to that white farm house in the country. The christmas decorations were finally gone from the window, and it seemed all of David’s horses were roaming the fields. Parked in front of the house, Killian went to war with himself. He rolled up the sleeves of his flannel in a nervous effort to keep himself busy, but he knew what he came here to do. He just had to do it. Against his better judgement, he swung open the truck door and marched up to the front door with false confidence.
David came to the door shortly after Killian managed to ring the doorbell.
“Killian!” he stuttered, surprised. Killian shuffled his feet a little, shooting him a nervous smile that he felt all the way down to his toes. David remembered him which was a good start, he supposed.  “It’s good to see you, but I can’t really take walk-ins. Maybe I can figure something—”
“That’s not what I’m here about,” Killian interrupted.
“It’s not.”
“No.”
David’s hand came to rest on the edge of the door, leaning on it with a twinkle in his eye that seemed a bit uneasy and perhaps a bit hopeful. “Then what did you come here for?”
Killian ran his tongue along the inside of his teeth, reigning in what little confidence he had left.
“I was wondering if you were free for coffee… or something.”
David cocked a brow, and Killian felt himself visibly relax when the man lit up in an affectionate grin.
“I, uh, have a client in a few minutes but there’s this cafe in town that isn’t too far. I could meet you there when I’m finished. That is, if you don’t mind waiting a little bit.”
Killian heaved out a breathy laugh and shook his head.
“No, I don’t mind waiting at all.”

Do you have any theories of who Kit's mother is? I have been trying to put pieces together. I'm thinking it has to do with faerie (maybe a descendent of the first heir of unseelie king since Kit seemed to be recognized by some old faerie and the knights). Just was wondering what your thoughts are?
Kit’s mother…I have a whole bunch of random thoughts. I’ll toss my ideas out to you, if you give me feedback on what you think, because I’m not ready to commit!
1)I’m really bothered about Rook being a Herondale. The Herondales are ‘The best and worst in one family’. Even at the worst of worst I just can’t wrap my head around demons attacking and the first instinct being to jump in a protective circle and leave your kid unprotected on the outside. It seems cowardly and that to me is not a Herondale trait. CC answered in a post that we need to focus on his mother, not his father and so it makes me think that Rook wasn’t the Herondale, but that it was his mother who was one.
2)I’m still really confused about Jem and Tessa and Magnus messing with Julian and Emma’s memories (the wedding and what else?). My theory for that is that they were trying to hide the fact that the Blackthorns and maybe Emma (from another female Herondale/why are only the men listed?) have warlock blood. I thought a latent talent might have arisen in them during the stress of one of the parabatai trials. I thought they might have used a memory spell to hide it from the kids until they were older and the spell was tied into the seaglass that makes up Julian’s bracelet.
Why is this important you may think?
Because in LM Jem and Tessa told Kit the full story of Tobias Herondale and Eva’s baby being rescued. In LoS, Kit remembers the story as being that Tobias left being a Shadowhunter and started a whole new family. The stories conflict, and so was a memory spell worked on him too? And if so what would they want to hide? Catarina? Then why tell Kit of her involvement in the first place? So this led to my thinking that if he was a descendent of Tessa from a female Herondale that perhaps she left the Clave because she fell in love with a mundane, or a FAERIE—leaving the Clave is like being excommunicated, and what would happen to her children? And we don’t know how many generations ago something like this might have happened or how much faerie traits are diluted out—but would explain why he might be recognized by the Riders. It would also better explain why he looks so much like Jace. We do know that family tree is incomplete or inaccurate and if there was a Herondale woman who left the Clave her name would probably have been removed—so, that could make sense too.
If Tessa wanted to keep these things secret then Tobias Herondale would be a good cover story and make sense to the Clave, without revealing her connection. He could be brought back to the fold without the Clave asking awkward questions.
Kit had a lot of questions for Jem and Tessa, and they were conveniently not around to answer it. I also never liked Jem’s whole “we need to find something,” as being a good enough excuse for them being away. It makes more sense if they were tracking down Will and Tessa’s line rather than Tobias. But, seriously I want feedback and other ideas because I’m just as confused as the rest of you 

I'm th exact opposite of the douche bag teenager on a crotch rocket with no gear weaving in and out through taffic going 90mph in a 45mph zone. Insurance is a scam?
Why would we need it to be a law? Insurance is in case something happens, well what if nothing ever happens, all that money goes straight into their pockets. If it's law, they should make a new law where, after a certain number of years that you never got in an accident you get your money back. The main reason a hit and run occurs is, jail, or they don't have insurance. You would solve half the problem! How will adding 40 million more people to the Health Insurance rolls improve Health Care?
