Since it was just the 4th of July, what about a 4th Drabble where they have a big bbq with all their friends and the boys all end up doing something ridiculous with fireworks or something and all the ladies are just sitting there laughing
The Witness MasterList
“Which one of these idiots is responsible for putting Sam in charge of fireworks again?” Nat scoffed as she took another sip from her beer.
You laughed into your drink, nearly choking on it as you looked up to find Sam, Bucky, and Steve arguing at the far end of the yard. Sam held up a firecracker, just out of Bucky’s reach and you could practically see the steam radiating out of Bucky’s ears. He yanked it away from Bucky nearly took it from his grasp.
“Certainly wasn’t Bucky,” you teased as Sam literally threw the firecracker down the yard a few feet away just to keep it out of Bucky’s hands. The deadpan look that followed and the near physical brawl was enough to get you laughing so hard your stomach started to ache.
“I would assume Sam just took on the mantle himself,” Peggy shrugged, lounging back in her chair completely unbothered. She readjusted her sunglasses and sent you a wink.
“One would think Steve would be in charge,” Carol added, petting the new puppy you and Bucky had adopted a few months ago. Shiloh licked at her hand and she grinned. “You know, being the Cap and all.”
“That only seems to be in effect during business hours,” Peggy smirked. “Off clock, he’s just as ridiculous as the rest of them.”
While Steve jumped between Bucky and Sam to keep them from actually swinging fists, Peter emerged through the sliding doors behind you, carrying several refills of drinks.
“I got more alcohol,” he called out as switched out Nat’s beer and your mixed drink. He still walked with a limp but he was off the crutches and the burns had begun to heal enough that they weren’t the first thing you noticed anymore. He threw you that boyish smile as he took a seat on your left.
“You don’t want to help the guys out?” you joked, gesturing towards Bucky who faked out a punch just to make Sam flinch.
“I’m very content right here,” he chuckled nervously, grimacing as Sam lunged at Bucky.
You only laughed, knowing there was never any bad blood between the boys but Sam and Bucky had a brotherly way of getting under one another’s skin. They’d be laughing around the campfire together in an hour.
“Oh thank God!” Peggy exclaimed as Tony and his wife, Pepper, walked outside. Peggy winced as Sam chucked another firework across the yard and Bucky’s groan was loud enough to carry up to the lawn chair. “Tony, please do something about that.”
She gestured dramatically to the three men still arguing at the end of the yard and you burst out laughing as Tony rolled his eyes.
“Don’t worry, Peg. I’ll handle it,” Tony shook his head, though he rolled up his sleeves and a smirk pursed his lips. He was very much enjoying this. “Pep, you good?”
“I think they need you more than I do,” she smiled, pushing him along. She sat down next to Carol, playing with Shiloh.
True to his word, Tony handled it in a matter of minutes. Steve and Bucky jogged up to the house as Sam hung back to help Tony get the fireworks lit.
Bucky had a sheen of sweat on his forehead and a silly grin on his face as he ducked down to kiss you. You laughed, swatting him away when he tried to deepen it further just to tease you in front of your friends.
“Here,” you giggled, face red, as Bucky finally pulled back and you handed him a beer. “Drink.”
He narrowed his eyes on the bottle, feigning offense. “Doll, where’s my shitty bourbon?”
“Too hot for bourbon and you drank the last of the bottle yesterday, smartass,” you teased, shoving his shoulder.
“Best we order more then.”
Bucky grabbed your hand and in one swift movement, hulled you out of your seat to your feet, threw himself down into the chair, snuck in arms around your waist and tugged you down to his lap. You yelped, grabbing onto Bucky’s forearms to stabilize yourself. He laughed against your shoulder blade, pressing a kiss to the exposed skin.
“Incoming!” Sam shouted, racing up the yard behind Tony as the first firework sprang up into the air, and exploded in a beautiful array of colors.
Bucky gripped onto you tighter, rocking you softly as you leaned against him, slumping further into his lap. You watched as the fireworks jetted up into the sky, flashes of colors and the thunderous sound that followed captivating you beyond the feeling of Bucky encasing you in his arms.
“It’s so beautiful,” you exhaled, staring up at the sky.
Bucky sighed against your shoulder blade, pressing another kiss to your back. “Sure is, doll.”

Narnian Winter Feast
@escape-to-narnia secret santa for @peppermintpevensie
Aravis and Cor are invited to the annual winter feast by the kings and queens of Narnia!
Aravis smiled as she saw ahead the castle of the King and Queens of Narnia. Every inch of it was covered in soft white snow. She and Cor had been delighted to accept the invitation to join in a winter feast at the castle. The two of them had been good friends with the Kings and Queens ever since the battle to protect Queen Susan from Radadash, and his evil plan of forced marriage a few years ago.
“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” Cor asked, as he looked around at the snow that covered every inch the ground and trees. But his eyes soon lead him to look at Aravis. “And you look beautiful. Your copper skin is stunning with the backdrop of the snow.
Aravis felt herself blush as she grinned still looking ahead of them. “It will be good to be home won’t it?” She asked her dear horse friend Hwin.
Hwin kicked her legs up slightly. “I must admit it will be nice to be around horses such as myself again.”
Cor’s horse Bree sighed loudly. “What am I Hwin? Chopped liver?”
“Well after a while I will be honest you do get a bit old.”
The air was filled with laughter from the prince and princess. The two were used to their friends arguing with each other, but in truth the two horses were very good friends despite their disagreements. They spent most of their time together in the pastures.
It was in that moment that Aravis heard a voice calling to her and Cor. The princess looked up to see a girl with long flowing light brown hair riding out towards them on horseback. She beamed at the sight of Queen Lucy and waved.
The queen came to quick halt in front of Aravis and Cor sending snow cascading everywhere. “Hello you two,” Lucy said radiating cheerfulness. “I was afraid you weren’t going to make it! The feast is tomorrow after all! All of Narnia is preparing.”
“You know we wouldn’t miss this,” Cor replied giving Bree’s neck a pat.
“It’s good to see you Queen Lucy,” Aravis said bowing her head in respect. The Horses followed suit and bowed their heads as well.
Lucy rolled her eyes at mention of queen. “Please just call me Lucy. We’re all friends!  The others will be so happy to see you! Just follow me and I’ll show you the way!”
So Aravis and Cor followed the Lucy towards the castle. Once they stopped by the stables and the horses find places to rest and food to eat, the three proceeded into the castle.
Aravis and Cor glanced at each other out of their eyes and giggled as Lucy began to regal them with tales of her and her siblings’ recent adventures. She had a wonderful way of telling a story, and she was always telling them to the little children in Narnia. She even used different voices.
They were walking up a large staircase when a figure with sandy blonde hair was seen coming down it. High King Peter came with a warm smile to greet them. “Aravis! Cor! It’s so good to see you.” The king wrapped his arms in welcome around them both.
“Peter I was just telling them about the festival we had last month! You know, the one where Edmund and you had a duel, and he kicked your-.”
“Alright, Lu,” Peter said cutting across her as his cheeks turned slightly red. “I think they get it. Ed bested me that time. But Lu, Susan’s been looking for you. She wants you to come to her room. Something about a dress?”
Lucy jumped with excitement. “Oh, thank you,” she replied leaning on tiptoe to give her brother a kiss on the cheek. Then the queen turned and ran up the stairs a head of them.
Peter then turned back to his guests. “Well, I’ll show you two to your rooms then shall I?”
Once they were settled in their rooms Aravis began to unpack but was once again greeted by Lucy who burst into her room with her usual broad smile. “Aravis, do you want to come help me and Susan with our dresses for tomorrow? It’s always fun to do it ourselves, and we want you to join!”
Aravis blushed. “Really? You want me to join? I don’t want to intrude on time with your sister.”
“Don’t be silly! Susan and I both agreed that it would be much more fun if you joined! You could even add a few things to your dress if you like!” Lucy then looped her arm through Aravis’s and pulled her along.
Soon Lucy was guiding her through a beautiful wooden door and into a room with a beautiful canopy bed. In the corner was a large table that was covered in fabric, needles, and thread. At the table sat Queen Susan, with her long dark hair braided down her back keeping it out of her way as she worked on threading.
“Aravis!” The older woman jumped up from her seat and hugged the young princess. “How was the journey?”
“It was beautiful,” Aravis replied. “Narnia is truly amazing. Cor was especially excited about the snow.”
“Tomorrow we could have a lovely walk,” Susan said motioning for Aravis to follow her back to the large wooden table.
“That would be wonderful!”
“Aravis, I was thinking,” Lucy began as she and the princess pulled up chairs to join Susan at the table. “Were you planning on wearing that golden body paint that is so well known in your country?”
“Yes, I absolutely love wearing it for special occasions. Would you like for me to help you decorate yourselves with it?”
“Could you?” Lucy asked eagerly.
“It would be my pleasure!”
That night the girls sat on Susan’s bed and talked for hours and hours as Aravis worked her skilled hands. You would have though the three young women had known each other all their lives. They giggled and joked until Aravis was finally done with the Narnians and herself.
Lucy held her hand close to her eyes and examined the paint. “Aravis this is absolutely beautiful. Thank you!”
Aravis grinned at her friends. She had been a bit nervous to see the Queens again. They had kept in touch by letter but this had been entirely different. However, she need not have worried at all.
 ———————————————————————————————
Peter, Edmund and Cor sat in a drawing room with a roaring fire, at a table playing cards. The snow outside the window was building up against the class. The three were in a heated game that was very popular in Narnia so they hardly noticed the snow.
“It’s your turn Ed,” Peter said not looking up from his own cards.
“I’m so glad you two taught me this game. I absolutely love it,” Cor said with a giddy grin.
“You might not be so happy when you lose,” king Edmund chuckled.
“Don’t be so sure King Edmund.”
Peter would have reminded Cor that he didn’t need to include the king for either him or Edmund, but the prince had insisted. He smiled at the young man. He was going to be a truly great King one day.
Just then the door opened and Susan, Lucy, and Aravis entered all laughing. They eagerly scurried into the room.
“Edmund,” Lucy called to him. “Look at our hands!”
“Lu, we’re kinda in the middle of a game.”
“You can look up for a few moments,” she replied rolling her eyes.
Which a sigh, Edmund did as she asked. His eyebrows rose as he saw the beautiful golden paint on his sister’s pale hand. “Wow! Who did it?”
“Aravis,” Cor replied. He beamed up at her in admiration. “She does that whenever there is a special occasion.”
Susan then looked at her friends and siblings grinning broadly. “We should give these two something back! They’ve done so much for us.”
Peter grinned broadly at his oldest sister. “What did you have in mind?”
“Let’s show them the latest Narnian dance and have our own little party tonight!”
“Yes,” Lucy agreed excitedly.
Soon the fawn named Mr. Tumnus came in with his pipe instrument. He struck up a cheerful tune and the friends began to dance. Peter was in charge of teaching Aravis and Lucy was in charge of teaching Cor. Susan and Edmund danced with each other rather jokingly. But soon the prince and princess had learned enough of the steps to dance with each other and the oldest and youngest king and queen began to parade around the room with enthusiasm.
“Happy Lu?”
“How could you tell?” Lucy said in a fake shocked tone.
“It’s good to have Cor and Aravis here isn’t it?” Peter remarked looking around the room and saw how delighted everyone was. He felt the warmth inside his chest that he felt when his family was happy. Somehow he had always put pressure on himself to make sure his siblings were safe and content, but he didn’t need to worry so much.
The friends danced and danced all night. They continued with high spirits at the feast the next day with the Narnians and friends. They even danced in the snow along with the nymphs, and fawns. A snowball fight broke out near the end of the night. There was always a disagreement on who started it. However, Aravis was always sure that she had seen the high king and his youngest sister start the fight. It was always grand to have a party in Narnia.

Peter Pan x Mermaid!Reader | Part 7
Summary: Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  Part 4  Part 5  Part 6  Part 8
Fic Type: Peter Pan x Mermaid!Reader Series
Warnings: Kissing, but seeing as this is Tumblr I feel like it’s kind of useless to warn you guys about that. Pan being devious, but that’s all.
Author’s Note: (As always, comment or message me to be added to the tag list.) Mumblety-peg is a game played with knives. Players take turns throwing knives at the ground, and the one who gets the knife closest to their foot wins that round. If you actually hit your foot, you win the game.
Pan wasn’t planning on letting Devin’s little comment slide. Not by a long shot. But, for the time being, he wanted to see just how far this little charade would go. After dinner, he sat by the bonfire, playing his pipes, deep in thought. He wondered if Y/N could hear them. She had gone to bed early, claiming to be tired. Well, it wasn’t really a claim. She was tired, but even so Pan was reluctant to let her go. She had basically become a mother figure for the younger lost boys, like Aravis and Caspian. He liked having her around to watch them.
He had had the lost boys build her a treehouse, and she spent a great quantity of her time there. It was far above camp and was furnished with a hammock, chair, desk, and a trunk. In the trunk, Pan had provided extra clothing and even a linen dress. There were pillows, and furs, and a woven mat on the wooden floor. When he had shown her the treehouse, she had simply thanked him without meeting his eyes. God, she was infuriating! What did she want? Why was she so hard to understand?
Later that night, after the lost boys had gone to bed, Pan decided to pay his favorite mermaid a visit. He snuck into her treehouse, stepping from the small balcony into her bedroom. There she lay, curled under the thin linen sheets, body trembling. He had hardly noticed until now, but it was fairly cold out. Normally, the nights in Neverland were comfortably warm. The kind of night that would make you want to sleep out under the stars. But not tonight. Tonight was chilly, and frost nipped the island air. A cool breeze rustled the curtains of the treehouse, and Y/N shivered in her sleep. A pang of sympathy resounded through Pan’s being, along with a sharp intake of breath. The feeling was foreign and unclean. So unfamiliar in fact, that he could hardly name it. He hadn’t felt sympathy for anyone, ever, under any circumstances. But sympathy was what had tempted him to rescue Y/N in the first place, though at the time his actions on the feeling had gone unrecognized because of his sheer curiosity. Yes, that’s all this feeling was. It was not sympathy, for he was incapable of feeling that. It was intrigue. He simply wanted to take Y/N apart like a clock. Figure out what made her tick. She was an enigma, a riddle, a puzzle to solve. His tactics thus far had proved unsuccessful, so perhaps it was time to develop a different ploy
---
Y/N breathed deeply then exhaled, feeling her body relax as she snuggled into the source of warmth that was keeping her in that comfortable place between waking and sleep. She nuzzled deeper into the close space, vaguely aware of the morning sunlight streaming through the curtains. She once again took a deep, contented breath, enjoying the scent of pinewood and fresh dirt, fresh and clean like a forest after a rainfall.
Her smile vanished. E/C eyes snapped open, only to see a hues of blurred tan and green. In her disoriented state, she tried to move backwards from the very human shaped source of warmth, the face obscured by a pillow. An arm slithered around her back, moving upwards, stopping once the fingers were tangled in her long, H/C hair. They gently gripped her head, pressing her back to the body and what she could only assume to be a neck. The other arm slid around her waist, keeping her from moving.
She was panicking ever so slightly, but counted slowly to ten, trying to get her wits about her. A plan. She needed a plan. Presently, she realized that her left leg was tangled between two others, and this, she realized, could be used to her advantage. She shifted her body ever so slightly, and placed her hands on bare shoulders. With one swift motion, she flipped them both over so she was straddling the boy. The hand that had been tangled in her hair fell to shield cruel green eyes from the morning sunlight streaming through a window. It was only then that she realized that she was not in her treehouse.
“What the actual hell, Pan!” She yelled at the boy beneath her, resisting the urge to slap him.
“Get off.” He pushed her, sending her tumbling from the hammock to the ground.
Y/N scrambled to her feet, glaring at Pan. Their refusal to say a word to each other had flown out the window and a tirade from either, or possibly both, parties seemed imminent.
Y/N hissed, “What am I doing here?”
Pan smirked. “You’ll see.”
With a dissatisfied huff, Y/N turned on her heel and stormed out of Pan’s tent. The moment she crossed the threshold outside, she immediately regretted it. The lost boys were all up, and the second they saw her walk out of Pan’s tent in her disheveled state whispers caught up like wildfire. It got even worse when Pan followed her out, still shirtless. It took Y/N all of a half a second to figure out Pan’s game. She could see very clearly how this situation must of looked to the lost boys. The sound of firewood clattering to the forest floor, brought Y/N’s attention to the real problem at hand. Devin had just returned from gathering firewood for the breakfast campfire. Behind her, Y/N could practically feel Pan’s broad smirk. That tricky bastard.
---
“Want to tell me why you were with Pan last night?” Devin’s voice was bitter as he pushed back branches. He and Y/N had been sent to go hunting for the night’s dinner.
“I told you earlier. I wasn’t. I woke up in his tent.” Y/N’s brow furrowed as she studied the ground for tracks of the boar they were after.
Devin whipped around, anger blazing in his eyes. “Bullshit.”
Y/N stared at him, caught off guard. Devin had never acted like this. He had been put off ever since this morning, for reasons unknown to her. She had tried to explain that she had never intentionally gone to Pan, and never would, but Devin didn’t believe her. And worst of all, he just wouldn’t let it go. He kept bringing it up, as if by asking her to tell him the truth she would magically slip up and tell him that yes indeed she had been fraternizing with Pan. But no matter how many times she reassured him that she had no idea how she had ended up there, Devin never believed her.
“Tell me the truth.” Devin demanded.
“I did.” Y/N brushed her hair back from her face. “And, just so you know, I’m leaving. Tonight.”
She was fed up. With Pan, with Devin, with everyone. She wanted nothing more than to leave; to escape the trap that was Neverland. It was a game of chess, and Pan constantly had her in check, surrounded by his pawns. She hated him with a burning passion. The one sense of hope she had came from remembering. Remembering her father. Remembering that she wasn’t lost. Remembering that as long as she knew she was trapped, she still had a chance to escape.
Devin shook his head, watching her storm away. She was uncontrollable, uncontainable like the ocean itself. She had the sea in her veins, that much was evident. He was growing weary of not being able to bottle the storm. He was sick of being treated as though he was insignificant in her decision making. He wasn’t some pawn to be played with, by Y/N or Pan, for that matter. Pan. He was beginning to despise the boy king of the island. He took everything for himself, and now it seems that he had even tried to claim Y/N. Pan had done nothing to deserve his place of leadership. The others blindly followed him, just because he said they should. Devin was having none of that. What exactly made Pan better than him? Nothing. And if he could eradicate Pan, Neverland would be his.
---
Felix sat next Peter, who was clearly deep in thought. “I thought you would have killed Devin by now.” He laughed, lifting a spoonful of the rabbit stew Y/N had made to his mouth.
“He’s a coward. He’ll never pull through with his threats.” Pan said, running a sharpening strop along the blade of his knife, his bowl of food sitting uneaten. “And as for Y/N… It’s only a matter of time before she breaks.”
“Or runs away.” Felix said pointedly.
Pan shook his head. “She wouldn’t get far. The mermaids would kill her.”
“Maybe that’s what she wants.” Felix took a breath. “She hates it here. That much is obvious. Maybe she would do anything for freedom. What would you do then?”
Pan couldn’t answer. What would he do? He hadn’t even considered that. Sure, she wanted to leave. But surely she wouldn’t be suicidal enough to try and escape. There would be pandemonium if she killed herself. The lost boys had grown accustomed to having her around. The younger boys in particular, loved her. She looked after them, and in a way had become an older sister to them. Besides- he glanced at his steaming bowl of rabbit stew- she made great food.
On the other side of the campfire, Devin sat next to Y/N, and the two were getting along famously once again. Devin seemed to have finally accepted that Y/N was indeed not cheating on him and was all the better for it.
“Want more stew?” He asked as he rose to refill his own bowl.
“Sure.”
She handed over her bowl, and Devin flashed her a wink. “You’ll need your strength if you’re gonna cross realms.” He murmured.
Y/N bit her lip. There was no guarantee that she could even make it. She might give her life trying to escape. Devin returned, and silently handed her the bowl of soup. She took a spoonful and chewed thoughtfully on a piece of rabbit meat. Devin’s hand had found it’s way to her thigh, and she felt grateful for the touch of reassurance. He understood. He had accepted the fact that she needed to leave. She only wished he had agreed to come with her. He didn’t want to leave, but she acknowledged that he needed to stay in the same way that she needed to leave.
---
Y/N slipped away from the circle around the campfire early, heading to her treehouse. She took a deep breath as she looked down at the lost boys laughing and chatting happily. James, Rufio, Owen, and Felix were playing mumblety-peg while some of the younger kids like Timothy and Flynn watched with wide eyes. Y/N turned from the balcony, and grabbed her cloak from where it hung next to her desk and fastened it around her shoulders. Quietly she climbed down from the treehouse, and slipped into the woods.
She had only just gotten out of earshot of the camp when she heard a twig snap. She whipped around, only to see Devin stepping from behind a tree. “Don’t do that!” She hissed.
“Sorry sweetheart.” Devin grinned, “You thought you were jus’ gonna leave without saying goodbye?”  He wrapped his arms around her waist, smirking.
“I-” She was cut off by Devin’s lips brushing hers. It was not an innocent kiss by any measurement, but their kisses had never been that way. It was intense, hungry, and the breath was knocked from her lungs. She hardly had a moment to react before he pressed his tongue to the seam of her lips and, at her grant of access, delved inside her mouth. Y/N could nearly feel the lust as it rolled onto her tongue and seeped down her throat with every push of his tongue against hers, spreading through her body.
Devin pulled back, panting ever so slightly. “Good luck.” He said, his smirk still painted on, a mischievous evil glinting in his eyes. “Goodbye.”
“Goodbye…” Murmured the girl as she turned and fled into the woods.
Y/N hurried through the underbrush, barefoot. She had left her boots behind because the extra weight would only slow her down and she wouldn’t need them once she reached the ocean anyway. She ran down the beaten trail leading to the beach, her path lit only by slivers of moonlight slipping through the canopy of leaves overhead. Abruptly, a sharp pain twisted through Y/N’s stomach and she clenched her teeth in a desperate attempt to keep from crying out. She stumbled to the ground, pain surging through her body. She writhed and twisted in pain, near tetraplegic. The scent of earth helped ground her, and she grasped tightly to the roots of a tree, her fingernails digging into the bark. Up ahead, she could see the moonlit water. She dragged herself to her feet with what felt like magma pulsing through her veins. She stumbled across the beach, then waded into the water, sighing in relief as her legs melded into a glistening sapphire tail. The pain was searing, but bearable for now. The relief was short lived, however.
After swimming for awhile, the pain returned, worse than before. Y/N’s body convulsed. She feared that the splashing would alert the mermaids to her presence. She writhed, twisting in the ocean, trying to overcome the nigh unbearable agony. Saltwater washed into her mouth, and she accidentally inhaled the liquid. Coughing and spluttering, she tried to keep fighting despite the nausea that was washing over her in waves. She was rapidly losing strength consciousness, and she was fighting to stay awake. Her body was fatigued, and wracked with pain beyond measure. Y/N fought the disabling surges of twisting pain, her teeth gritted and head swimming. Her muscles spasmed, and with no warning, Neverland faded to black as she slipped from consciousness.

I’m Cold (Cor x Aravis)
I was going through my documents and I found this that I wrote in November of last year.  I figured since it’s been ages since I’ve posted (sorry about that) I would go ahead and share it with you.  It's a Modern AU. I just did a quick read through so if there are any mistakes, my apologies.  I remember now that the reason I didn’t post it right away was because I was worried I didn’t get the personalities correct so let me know what you think.  I know it’s a winter/Christmas type story and it’s currently summer but maybe this’ll help distract you from the heat? And hey, Christmas in July is a thing.  Okay, I’m done, enjoy the story.
“I hate snow,” Aravis mumbled to herself while wrapped in a mound of blankets on the couch.
She, Cor, and Corin had taken a trip to the mountains because Corin claimed he ‘needed a break from the sweltering heat and need company for his excursion’.  After successfully convincing Cor and Aravis to go with him, he booked them a suite in a five-star lodge.  Personally, Aravis didn’t care how many stars this stupid place had; it did nothing to keep her from being cold.
The worst part was this weather made her incredibly grumpy.  Cor had argued that she was always grumpy, which had almost started a food fight in the dining room last night.
A sudden gust of wind came in, making Aravis borrow even deeper into her cacoon, as the twins rushed in with red cheeks and covered in snow.
“Aravis!” Corin exclaimed as he ran towards the fire.  “Why are you staying cooped up in here when you could be outside skiing or snowboarding?”
“Corin, if I’m cold sitting here, wrapped in blankets, heat on, and near a roaring fire, there is no way in hell I’m not going to die of pneumonia if I go outside,” Aravis snapped glaring at him.
Corin shrugged as he finished shredding his layers.  He started for the bedroom he and Cor were sharing before stopping short and turning.
“By the way,” he said with a glint in his eye. “I managed to snag an invitation to that party that’s being held tonight so try not to miss me too much when I’m gone.”
With a wink, he disappeared into the bedroom.
Aravis moved her glare from the closed bedroom door to Cor’s figure as he sat by the fire.
“What does he mean by snagged an invitation?”
   Cor chuckled.
“We ran into a few girls on the slopes and Corin captured their attention.  One of them turned out to be the daughter of the man who owns the lodge.  Corin did a little charming and next thing you know we’re invited to a party.”
   “We?”
“Well I was standing there and it would have been rude to invite only one of us.”
“Are you going?” Aravis inquired, suddenly wishing she had gone skiing so she could have given these girls a piece of her mind.
Cor turned from the fire to look at her with a raised eyebrow, making Aravis want to look away.  Too late she realized that the haughtiness of her tone had not completely hidden the sadness underneath.
Cor opened his mouth to speak but just then a crash sounded when the door Corin had disappeared into slammed against the wall as he strutted out in dry clothes.
“See you two later!” he called and, with another wink, was out the door again.
Cor let out a sigh as the door slammed shut and stood up, mumbling something about changing into dry clothes too.
Aravis hardly heard him, but watched him out of the corner of her eye as he walked away.  Why was she feeling like this today?  What was she even feeling?  Aravis knew the answer as soon as she asked herself the question. Jealousy.  She was feeling jealous.  But there was nothing she could do about that.  She and Cor were friends.  Friends and nothing more.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard Cor yell from the bedroom.
   “Aravis, you stole our blankets!”
“Well you weren’t using them!” She yelled back indignantly, clutching the blankets in her arms.
“Why aren’t you using your blanket?” Cor questioned her as he marched out of the bedroom to stand in front of her, now wearing a fresh set of clothes.
“I am using mine. These northern idiots seem to think one blanket is enough for a person!”
   “Well I’m cold!”
   “Well I am too!”
“How?  You might as well be hiding under Mount. Everest! I can hardly see your face!”
“I just am! I’m not a polar bear! I’m not cut out for this kind of weather!”
“Well how am I supposed to get warm?”
“I don’t know! Go sit in the fire, that’ll do the trick! If you’re thinking about taking one of my blankets you’d better think again, mister!  The only way you’re using one of these is if you join me under here!”
   They both froze at this.
Aravis sunk into the covers until her head disappeared, leaving Cor standing there with his lips slightly parted in shock.
After a long silence she heard him whisper, “May I?”
Aravis mind seemed to freeze and speed into oblivion at the same time.
  “If you want to, Shasta.”
Cor smiled then; a very large, very giddy smile.
Slowly he grabbed the corner of the mound and lifted it up, making Aravis shiver as a blast of cold air hit her.  He lowered himself on the sofa, turning onto his side as if to face Aravis just as she shifted to face away from him.
“I’m about to fall off,” Cor complained.  He wasn’t really.  He just wanted to see what Aravis would do; how far they were going to take this.
There was a pause, shorter than the last few, before he heard her mumble, “Well then scooch in, idiot.”
He smiled again as he moved closer, moving his arm to rest atop to curve of her figure to allow for more room.
They stayed like this for a while, both slightly tense but strangely content, until Aravis decided she couldn’t take it anymore.
Cor heard her mumble something he couldn’t understand before she began to wiggle her way around to face him.  He was about to ask her what she was doing when she placed her lips on his own.
His mind exploded.  He found he couldn’t think straight; He couldn’t think of anything but the warm press of her lips against his.
Too soon, he felt her pull away.  She began to flip away from him again but he swiftly wrapped his arms around her frame and held her close.  Her dark eyes glared at him but there was a glint in them that hadn’t been there before.  There was a pause as they starred at each other.  Finally, a small smile appeared on Cor’s face.
“If I had known the way to kiss you was to freeze you to death I would have done it sooner.”
“Shut up!” Aravis exclaimed, hitting his chest.
Cor laughed.  “What took you so long?”
“Me?  You’re the man.  According to society, you’re the one who should initiate this sort of thing.”
Cor’s smile faultered.  “I didn’t know you wanted me to.”
Aravis laughed loudly.  “And here I thought I was being too obvious!  Haven’t you noticed how territorial I’ve become of you?  I want punch every girl the goes near you and when you’re even remotely civil to them it makes me mad!  Every time you’d smile at them or laugh at their jokes I’d be mad that it wasn’t directed at me; then I’d be mad at myself for being mad and-.”
She was interrupted when Cor pressed his lips to hers again.  Their mouths moved in unison until they both pulled away for air.  Aravis looked down at the blankets before mumbling, “Besides, I didn’t think you’d want me to do anything.”
“Not want you to do something?  Aravis, I’ve wanted to kiss you for a while now.  If you even look at a guy I get mad and then Corin won’t shut up about me making a move but I was always too scared to.  You’re this-this goddess and you’re so strong and bold-beautiful-you always know what you want, and I was certain you didn’t want me.”
He stopped talking when he saw the smile that light up her face and the way she was shaking her head.
   “Idiot.”
Aravis leaned in and gave his lips a quick peck.  A small smile continued to grace her lips as she snuggled closer to him and laid her head on his chest.
She closed her eyes and mumbled, “Next time some girls invite you to a party, say you can’t go unless your girlfriend can come too.”
“Oh, so you’re my girlfriend now?”
Aravis’ eyebrow shot up as she opened her eyes.  But when she saw the smile Cor was wearing she just shook her head and laughed.
Closing her eyes again, she snuggled a little closer to him, felt his arms tighten around her waist, and decided that maybe this place wasn’t so horrible after all.
That is, until Corin burst in a few hours later, waking them up with screams of triumph and never letting them hear the end of it.
