I think it’s important to remember that Jotaro was an absent father but not a bad father. Like his absence from Jolyne and her mom’s life wasn’t even because of ambition or not caring about them. His absence was because he cared about them and didn’t want to be the reason why they died or got hurt.
I feel like araki really does a good job of showing not telling us this, so good of a job that it went over people’s head.
Like, Narancia is 17 when he dies In like a split second to a Stand.
Shigechi Yangu is 13-14 years old when he gets killed instantly by Kira via Killer Queen.
Hayato is 11 years old and has to go through Bites the Dust like 10+ times.
Stand Users do not fuck around if they’re on that evil shit. You can literally die in a second. Jotaro knows this. Stand users are also drawn to each other.
Compound that with all the trauma Jotaro went through as a young man and you can understand why he’d separate himself Jolyne and his wife if it meant they don’t have to encounter that.
We see how quickly Enrico Pucci goes after Jolyne just to get to Jotaro. We him give his own life just to save her.
This man loves them dearly.
But he also knows that if it’s a wrong-place-wrong-time situation with a Stand that it would mean they’re both killed or maimed. Yeah, he’s a stoic guy but he isn’t some unfeeling cold dude.
You know it had to hurt him deeply to watch his own family split up all because he can’t risk being a indirect cause of harm for them
This man literally is willing to break the law and just walk Jolyne out of prison to keep her safe. He loves his family yall.

watching through p2 of jojos again and it never like, it never stop feeling weird to me how weirdly human araki wrote the pillar man. with so many traits and points make them feel like complex characters, heros of their own story, just weirdly feel sympathetic and human to the point of connection to them.
Like Josephs point in making on meeting santana that 'we can assume he's just bad, this is a fucked up situation to be in maybe so we should give him the benefit of the doubt'
whams WHOle character good god could i put a lot of talk into him
Esidisis behavior and way of acting
Kars enjoyment of animals and plants and for nature in general, a wish to walk in the sun and just kinda a dislike for human people. The way he violently mourns for his fallen family
but none of it matters because you know araki wanted them, even with flaws, to be the main villians. thats all it is. a greatest evil on earth to deal with even if they show human traits.
but it feels so weird, because when im like 'idk i dont think the pillar man did anything wrong, let them do what they want, like sorry joseph but im not rooting for your side' im kinda not kidding. like yes your supposes to assume the worst of the pillar men and their intentions and what they'll do to people if they can walk in the sun. but like, they barely did much when walking around people at night unless they deamed them a threat to themself or something they cared about.
idk i think this comes back around to my feelings that BT really should have been a lil bit longer and fleshed out. its such a shame because while i knoW araki was just wanting to get shit done and move onto his stand stuff, he introduced such a rich cast of characters who if given a bit more time i think could have made such a fucking wonderful and complex narrative... like to the point of the pillar man but to everyone else. Joseph got a strong character introduction only to just kinda get worse and stand still imo. i still like him but i think he could have done a lot more if the story was a bit more fleshed out. Him a caesar actually getting to develop some sort of actual relationship on screen that isnt the two of them fighting and sometimes caesar admires joseph's skills or whatever. JOSEPH AND LISA LISA TRAININGGG, i would have KILLEd to see joseph and lisa lisa do anYthing togeatherrrr... the subtle hints to be dropped of lisa lisa past and her connection to joseph..
idk what point im trying to make actually, im just thinking about how weirdly soft and kind we see the pillar men in moments at time and not just as pure evil being and it feels so weird to remember that were supposes to be rooting against them is all. i feel like we were should have had more insight into their group and lives and feelings and maybe even what they were up to while joseph trained. idk man idk, just kinda thinkin out loud

people on tumblr are only seeing a fraction of the amount of jojoposting ive been doing. who couldnt love the adventures of the joestar family
part 1: the only kind-hearted englishman on earth in the 1800s meets the most evil and most gay bitch in the entirety of human history. dio brando finally defeats jonathon joestar in their slowly escalating, lifelong sibling rivalry by becoming a vampire with an instant kill eyeball laser-beam. with the help of a solar powered italian and a homosexual in the midst of a manic episode, he narrowly defeats dio at the cost of his own life.
part 2: the manic homosexual (mr. robert e. o. speedwagon), dedicates the remainder of his life and oil speculation fortune on supporting the joestar family forever and ever, as well as destroying any remaining stone masks that turn you into vampires with instant kill eyeball laser-beams. his efforts awaken a crew of mysterious, powerful and very homosexual vampire god-men from the depths of the earth and it's up to jonathon's grandson, joseph joestar to use his hamon and wiles to stop them. he'll do whatever it takes, even and especially if he has to climb a big leaking pole while wearing a BDSM mask that controls his breathing.
part 3: dio's back, baby! and this time he's gayer than ever! joseph joestar, now in his 60s, recruits his autistic (positive) grandson jotaro kujo in his newest quest to make sure dio stays dead for good this time. his crack team of anti-dio experts is comprised of a frenchman who just wants to take a shit, joseph's personal buddy from egypt, a boston terrier that transforms into a chihuahua, and a high school teenager with more brains than everyone else combined. in a globe-trotting adventure, joseph joestar and da boyz use their "stands" (powerful dudes) to battle enemies with stands based on whatever horror movie araki watched recently and gather information before dio becomes too powerful and too gay to be stopped. a heartwarming story about a little boy who, after 47 episodes, finally says a badass one-liner.
part 4: jotaro kujo is cleaning up a big mess left by dio and his minions: a bunch of them went around firing magical arrows into people around the town of morioh and giving them stand powers. jotaro recruits the help of his 16 year old uncle (long story) josuke higashikata, at least 3 other teenagers and a gay bitch named kishibe rohan to help him clean up the town. however...a dark secret lurks in morioh...a murderous pervert with four fucking stands (?!) named yoshikage kira!!! can jotaro and da boyz stop this sadistic serial killer from living a peaceful life!? FUN FACT: this is the first piece of media to depict an italian as heroic
part 5: this is the one im on and im not finished yet, but i'm pretty sure it's just about the first ever they/them nonbinary mafia protecting the bosses' daughter. our protagonist, giorno giovanna, is the son of both dio and jonathon (long story) and he does not seem to understand what a mafia is or what it does. however, he tell his future capo that all he wants is to be a "GANG-STAR". he does not elaborate on this.
thats all i know dont tell me anything else. these are the most surface descriptions possible. when you get into details you can really get lost in the weeds.

PRELIMINARY ROUND - JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA
Lisa Lisa
1.) Lisa Lisa is the fighting mentor of our hero Joseph Joestar and his rival-turned-ally Caesar. She’s implied to be a badass in her own right, but only participates in two serious battles: one she instantly wins and one she instantly loses. Not only is she damselled in the fight she loses, the villain also plays air guitar on her leg. Furthermore, Jojo spies on her in the bath at one point; this is framed as him being a lovable scamp and he is not punished for it in the text.
2.) Sexualised for literally no reason, overlooked in favor of the men (she was the only main female character and got almost no focus compared to them), nearly killed off in a really stupid way, her backstory is interesting and crucial to her character and yet she's never given proper screentime. You know that one "I want to be that deep" meme? Yeah that's me with her character potential. In author's defense, some of the misogyny is because the executives didn't want a badass female mentor in a shounen manga (this arc came out in the 80's 😐) but was the sexualisation REALLY necessary Araki. Was that necessary. Damn.
3.) Peeped on while in the bath
Holy Kujo
1.) She's treated badly by both the creator, Araki, and her own kid and father. When people start getting Stands (powers) hers tries to kill her, which functions as an excuse to start the plot of this arc of Jojo. The explanation is that she's too weak and gentle to control a Stand of her own, even though we see Stand users who are children, babies and even literal animals. Yes, animals. Holy's son Jotaro calls her a bitch and disrespects her for no real reason aside from establishing him as a rebel/delinquent, and Holy's father Joseph hates that she married a Japanese man and follows Japanese customs (Araki thinks xenophobia/racism is okay from a heroic character, apparently). Holy's saved from her evil Stand, but it's never explained why she couldn't have developed it into something useful- guess she was too much of a weak lady to have cool powers 🙃🙃🙃
2.) In the story, stands are developed due to Dio, who is in possession of the body of an ancestor of the Joestar family, stabbing himself with an arrow and developing a stand. In response, everyone in the family line begins developing them. Stands are supposed to be a representation of someone's "fighting spirit", and typically the stronger your spirit the more powerful your stand. Josuke(the main character's mom) develops a stand early on around the same time he does, except in her case she is too "weak willed" to develop a stand properly so she's dying from it. Part of the plot is that they have to defeat Dio to stop her from developing a stand in time or she'll die, even though everyone in the family keeps their stand but her after they defeat Dio??? This compassionate, caring woman who's practically a single mother is dying of being "weak willed" just what the fuck. There is 0 reason for this and It then takes multiple seasons for one of the Jojo's to be a woman and it's just a mess.
Also apparently when people try to justify it they put it as it needs to be a "fighting" spirit in particular but do NOT tell me Holy wouldn't have travelled to Egypt to throw hands with Dio for her son just do not she cared wayyyyyyyy too much about him.

Is it just me or the JoJo X OC fandom is getting kind of toxic?
Welp, it is not getting toxic, it already was. And sadly not only the JoJo X OC fandom, but every one of them (flashback to little me seeing those videos of jealous little girls that scream "SANS IS MINE YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM!! *procedes to kill you*, fucking rolling my ass on the floor because I though they were so ridiculous)
Because 💫people are such beautiful creatures💫
Now, I'm lucky to have not met those people yet (knocks on wood), but you probably know who I mean. The ones that say "NOO JOTARO IS ONLY MINE YOU CAN'T HAVE HIIIM", or "gosh your ship sucks, it's so lame", or "stop shipping your oc with Jotaro it is cringe" and other and other and other...
I saw these people somewhere else and not on my blog (fortunately), and this is so fucking disgusting. I already said it and I'll said it again to them (who will not read this, I'm very sure of it because they're such idiots but I don't care): IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, SCROLL DOWN. BLOCK THE BLOG YOU DON'T LIKE. JUST. DON'T. SEND. HATE.
You don't know how a person could react to that hate, you don't know how much even one of these comments could affect one's mentality, because yes: behind an OC x Canon or selfship blog, THERE IS A REAL PERSON WITH FEELINGS. A person, a human that is probably struggling with real life's problems and having their blog is the way they cope with them. This is their happy way out to get distracted and feel happy when they feel down, or just somethig they do for fun. Either case, you are ruining that person's happy world.
Why? Just- because???? I really don't see the point of sending hate when you just can IGNORE what you don't like. And no, it's not a big deal, they're fucking fictional characters so you don't need to be the the "hero" of the situation by sending hate to them thinking "aaah, I've done a good thing. Now the Internet is a better place!"
Just- just no.
How are they hurting you in any way?? Just- AYO JUST FUCKING SCROLL DOWN IT'S NOT SO HARD TO DO HAHA
But now, to the people who are jealous about they're s/o and see someone else having a blog about them but with their OC. DO👏 THE👏FUCKING👏SAME!!! Just scroll down, or block the blog you don't like. Easy game!!
People, THEY ARE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS!! NO CANON CHARACTER IS NO ONE'S POSSESSION, BUT TO THEIR OWN CREATORS!! Jotaro isn't yours, is fricking Araki's.
But you can still ship yourself or your OC with him! Because who says you can't? Is there a law for it? For loving a fictional character? No, so just go ahead and do it.
And also- to give it more lOgIc if people still aren't satisfyied with sharing their s/o- in the JJBA lore with Vento Aureo and another thing I will not say because then it'll be spoiler, we are 100% sure that other universes and multiverses exists, that means infinite Jotaros for everyone and so INFINITE SHIPPINGS!
That means that everyone gets to have their own Jotaro, the way they like him in THEIR OWN universe, because there are infinite of them and so your universe is somehow canon. Do you like it better put this way? I hope so, because then idk what else to say if not "block and scroll" the things you don't like.
Let's bless the people that actually do block and scroll the ones they don't like, instead of sending unnecessary hate, because not everyone can like the same thing! It is totally normal! But they do what it is CORRECT, so let's bless them 🙏🙏🙏🙏

So I think about the stardust crusaders a [HEALTHY AND NORMAL AMOUNT]. And I like analyzing media so let’s talk about stands and tarot cards! If there are any inaccuracies in my interpretation of the cards let me know, I’m not a tarot expert!!
Jotaro, The Star
Upright, the star arcana represents trust, belief, and rebirth. The journey to Egypt forces Jotaro to put a lot of trust into others that he wouldn’t have otherwise (for example the Lovers arc, the Terence D’Arby fight). He also learns to trust Star Platinum over the trip, going from seeing it as an evil spirit following him to a useful tool. Reversed, the star can represent despair and depression which could allude to the underlying worry over Holly’s condition. Tbh I wish I had more to say about Star platinum like I do the others but I don’t . I like his loincloth
Kakyoin, The Hierophant
Hierophant Green shows a lot of character, I feel, so I have a lot to say (totally not because I am biased towards kakyoin nooooo what makes you think that silly). The main stands in part 3 have a distinct kind of style to them. Human, plant (?), robot, anthropomorphi, and alien. Hierophant green’s alien appearance (as I see it) can be taken as an allusion to Kakyoin’s alienation as a child. That and Hierophant green has a mouth under its muzzle (?). In Heritage for the Future, when fighting Alessi and using Hierophant Green, the stand doesn’t have a mask. What does this mean Araki. It implies that a stands appearance can change over time without artificial means (using the arrow, using spin) or being evolved in acts. Is it trauma related? Who knows!!! I will say Hierophant greens painted face in HFTF is really cute to me :)
Tarot time! The upright hierophant represents morality, ethics, and tradition. In many situations, Kakyoin’s shown to have a strong sense of morals and often intervenes when Jotaro goes to just beat the everloving shit out of people. When compared to Jotaro, he’s also the more traditional highschool student compared to Jotaro’s delinquency. The jobros often serve a specific literary role and for Kakyoin, he acts as Jotaro’s foil, hence why I referenced Jotaro so much in this section lol. Reversed, the Hierophant represents rebellion and subversion. Kakyoin’s character arc centers around him rebelling against DIO. He revels against DIO for what he did to him and takes back his identity, and that arc begins when Kakyoin subverts the audience’s expectations and joins the crusade to Egypt despite being introduced as an enemy. Kakyoin my skrungly
Polnareff, The Chariot
Polnareff. :). Upright, the chariot represents willpower and direction. Despite being a wet dog of a man, Polnareff embodies these two concepts really well. Avdol, Kakyoin, and Polnareff’s encounters with DIO are really great character developing scenes. DIO is established to be a horrifying beautiful man who knows how to get what he wants from his targets. To get Polnareff to join him, DIO tempts him by offering to help him get revenge for Sherry. Polnareff wants to find his sister’s murderer, giving him a real and tangible goal that he has pursued for who knows how long. He’s so determined to find who killed his sister that he’s willing to team up with DIO who’s shown to intimidate everyone he meets. Reversed, the chariot is hostile, reckless, and indisciplined. I shouldn’t have to explain this but I love talking so I WILL!!!! Polnareff is reckless, often endangering others despite meaning no malice. Hanged man arc, that one time he fucking wrecked a car. In the Death 13 arc, he shows a lack of discipline within Mannish Boy’s dreamscape by accepting it as is and eating ice cream. In particular, his relationship with Avdol shows the dichotomy of his admirable determination and his harmful recklessness. He pushes Avdol to the side and makes rash decisions when confronted with J. Giel. Because of his recklessness, Avdol is injured to the point where it almost seems fatal. In the fight with Vanilla Ice, he overcomes this recklessness of his, I feel, after the sacrifice of Avdol and Iggy. In part 5, he shows a newfound sense of maturity.
Avdol, The Magician
Wine upright magician represents willpower and spirituality. When meeting DIO, Advol did not succumb to his charms and offers like Polnareff and Kakyoin did. Sure, he heard about how dangerous DIO was before from Joseph, but he also had the willpower to run away. Avdol is likely the most spiritual of all of the Crusaders. He’s a fortune teller and believes in fate (ex: when he let Jotaro draw the tarot card for his stand name). The concept of stands is introduced with Jotaro, but it’s not until Avdol appears that stands are actually explained. He acts as a mentor with spirituality within part 3. Reversed, the magician represents manipulation and trickery. He faked his own death idk what to tell you if that ain’t trickery then what is
Joseph, The Hermit
Out of all the stands, I feel like hermit purple embodies the tarot card the best. The upright hermit represents several things, one of them being a truth seeking nature. Hermit purple’s main power plays into that thought through spirit photography. The card also represents guidance and of Avdol is the mentor, Joseph is the tour guide. He’s not this part’s jojo, but he’s the one to initiate the journey to Egypt and is the one to really help everyone to get to Egypt. He’s almost a de facto leader of the group. Jotaro might be the muscles, but Joseph is the drive. Reversed means isolation and seclusion, and this is a bit harder to pin point. In a lot of Joseph centric parts, he’s kind of isolated? Like with the empress, first part of Bastet, and part of the Dio fight. It’s a bit hard to pinpoint this aspect of his character tbh. Maybe it means he misses his wife and daughter idk babes
Iggy, The Fool
I will be entirely honest and say The Fool is probably my favorite stand design in part 3. I just love it a lot idk what to tell you.
The fool represents a free spirit and new beginnings. Iggy is a free spirit to an outrageous degree. It’s the very first thing established about him. He’s a dog he doesn’t care for the others and does whatever the fuck he pleases. Good for him tbh. Even after he spends time with the crusaders, Iggy remains an independent member of the group. He’s forever a free spirit, even until the very end. He sacrifices himself not because he had to but because he wanted to. In the ultimate act of freedom, he chose to save Polnareff instead of himself. When he’s introduced, it’s at the beginning of the Egypt arc. It’s a “new beginning” for the story as well as for Iggy. Because he’s been ripped out from his home to help a bunch of weird guys in the desert. Up until the end where he saved Polnareff, he embodied the essence of the reversed fool. Inconsiderate, hasty, and reckless. As Araki said Personality; Terrible. I do love iggy tho
DIO, The World
DIO. For starters, the fact that The World and Star Platinum are essentially the same stand goes to show how intertwined the lives of the Joestars and DIO are.
Upright, the world represents fulfillment, wholeness, and completion. In the eyes of his followers, DIO is whole. He is the perfect stand user. The reversed world is a more accurate depiction of DIO. His followers see the World upright, but it is reversed. He is incomplete and inadequate. He sports a stolen body that had rejected his head. His body is not his. DIO is an incomplete god. As long as the Joestars live, he will be incomplete. He seeks completion by wiping them out.
The TLDR is that I have a lot of thoughts on jojo but have no one to discuss them with so I’ll scream into the void that is my blog

I'm sobbing why does my dash have to be filled with reminders about Phantom Blood.
So, the thing about... actually crossing over Dracula and Phantom Blood is. It's complicated. So, Araki looked at vampire lore and said "this ain't gonna do it for me. not sexy enough. not enough gore. where are the man-dogs?"
Religious iconography doesn't kill vampires (it makes an honest effort. Dio gets impaled by a statue of Venus but he lives unfortunately). They use breathing martial arts to harness the power of the sun (which Bram doesn't even explicitly say harms vampires. what the fuck Bram, toss me a bone). AND EVEN THEN! I swear to god, ninety percent of the time Hamon doesn't even work against vampires because all of the highly trained Hamon masters get fuckin' decimated by a guy who turned into a vampire last week.
I feel like maybe crossovering the plots would be weird... but to have the characters interact would be interesting. And I'm not just saying this because I've spent too much of my life working on Phantom Blood rewrites. I love these characters, I hate what happened to them. Jonathan Joestar dies at twenty-one. Unfair, illegal.
But so, since I keep thinking about this and I've already posted nonsense about crossovers, I might as well dip my toes.
Warning that I don't go deep enough into Jojo lore to make this comprehensible to non-Jojo fans.
Okay so, Phantom Blood takes place from 1880-1889. So, not really a viable time to crossover with Dracula. I know some are more fast and loose about crossovers, but I'm the guy who gets mad at people who think Frankenstein was set in Victorian times. I'm insufferable is what I'm saying. The earliest you might place Dracula is 1890 since that's 7 years before the publication, but some people go with a later date (for context reasons? shit about New Women and stuff) or even 1897.
But whatever. I guess... you can lie about things to make a crossover work... but you can't change the timeline of Jojo's bc Araki is an author that actually tells you what fucking year it is in his manga which makes him a god in my eyes.
So, probably the best way to connect the Joestars to the Crew of Light initially is that Jonathan Joestar is nobility. Perhaps the Joestars have met the Holmwoods? Jojo and Arthur could bond over having no mom? And later, their dads dying at a very inopportune time? And their wedding plans being ruined?
Dio Brando was a lawyer (or still in university to become one?) but I don't think he would have gone into property law?? I think canonically, he planned to be corrupt and take bribes from criminals, but I've seen fanfics that hint at crossover potential just being Harker and Dio knowing each other because of their lawyering. I think that's neat. Dio thinks this man (with the same damn name as his stepbrother) is so insufferable. And Harker doesn't even have the excuse of being rich or having a stable family, he's literally also a poor orphan, it vexes Dio so much, "stop being so happy you're not allowed, you're supposed to be bitter like me".
Erina Pendleton is the daughter of a doctor and later gets into medicine herself to nurse Jojo back to health after his first... well his first BIG LETHAL fight with Dio. Her father could know Van Helsing? Or Seward's parents? I assume Seward's father would also be a doctor but I dunno. You know he got that asylum through nepotism. Anyway, bullies call Erina's father a quack, so maybe he could indulge in theories about vampirism like Van Helsing? We see nothing of him, but he gets sponsored to do some medical research in India. It seems like big deal research to me, but I wouldn't know. It wasn't plot relevant, it's just the explanation for why Erina is gone for the seven-year time skip.
Also. isn't it funny that Phantom Blood and Dracula both have a seven-year time skip?
But here's the big issue I keep slamming into like a fly knocking against a glass window. Phantom Blood takes place in Liverpool where the Joestar estate is. I mean, there's also some cavorting in London, and Dio is from London, but the characters all spend the majority of their time in Liverpool. Maybe I'm just... I'm thinking too deeply. After all, most of the locations in Phantom Blood are made up. And England is just so small.
Mixing the vampire lore would be the hardest. Vampires are OP in Phantom Blood, and I refuse to give Dracula that much power. Vampires don't even... use their teeth here. I guess the sharp teeth are just for se-- *gets shot* They just stick their fingers into your skin like silly straws and suck it out that way. And they are created either by wearing the Stone Mask or by feeding vampire blood to someone/just spilling vampire blood on a corpse.
There's not really themes to the vampires in Jojo's. Dio and Jonathan themselves represent duality, but like... vampire are not Un-Dead in Phantom Blood. They're just... hyper-evolved humans? How the Stone Mask works is that it pierces specific areas of the brain to crack some evolutionary code and give you cool powers at the cost of not being able to walk about in the sunlight. People who are turned using blood tend to become ravenous monsters or have to serve the vampire whose blood turned them, but those turned with the mask retain free will.
Dio can fucking... make his blood so cold that he can trap people's entire bodies in ice. He gets sliced in half with a cool sword and walks it off. His entire body is destroyed by Hamon but he cuts off his own head and places it on Jonathan's body. It's fucking wild, and I refuse to give Dracula that power. Also, anyone who turns into a vampire turns young immediately, no need to drink blood. I honestly still don't know why Jojo vampires even drink blood. I think it's just to be edgy. Nothing can kill these fucking cockroaches except stands and Hamon... and sometimes the vampires have stands... and sometimes the vampires have Hamon. And that's illegal, but it's happened more than once.
I'VE GONE ON A TANGENT.
THE GIST OF IT IS MAYBE JUST-- WOULDN'T IT BE COOL IF, ON TOP OF HIS KHUKURI, JONATHAN COULD BREATHE ON DRACULA AND KILL HIM IN AN INSTANT??
There, I said it.

josuke + 3 + 22
Oooh let’s see
3-Least favorite canon thing about this character?
Tbh I can’t think of anything when it comes down to Josuke himself, i do sometimes dislike how canon handles some things when it comes to Josuke’s relationships tho, like the fact Ryohei was killed in episode 2, i kinda wished i’d see more scenes with Josuke and his grandpa :’)
When it comes to Josuke himself tho, I can’t really think of anything, I really love all his character traits, both positive and negative, he’s honestly such an amazing character
———
22-If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?
Starting with what i like, literally any fic that focuses on Josuke’s relationship with his mom has a special place in my heart, regardless of what the story is about, as long as it focuses on these two I’m immediately reading that story hdhxhxh
Another thing i like are when fics focus on Josuke’s familial relationships when it comes to his father’s side, LET THE BOI MEET HIS ENTIRE FAM HE DESERVES TO HAVE A BIG SUPPORT SYSTEM!!!!
Also fics that focus on Josuke’s and Jotaro’s relationship, or have them bonding are really heartwarming i love them <3333
Or fics that have Josuke and his friends getting themselves in trouble as per usual
And obviously fics that are the aftermath of Kira are always a nice read, i love me fics that show Josuke’s hospitalization and the mess that comes with it and the recovery after
As for what i dislike, it may come as a surprise, but fics that focus on dates/confessions when it comes to Josuyasu, like don’t get me wrong, i love the ship, literally one of the best ships ever, but as a platonic relationships enjoyer and as a Josuke and Okuyasu are besties truther these kinda fics don’t interest me
Like I’m fine with fics that has Josuyasu, but not the ones that has their romantic relationship as the spotlight of the fic
The problem tho? These are like 85% of fics that focuses on Josuke, so I’m here starving for fics that don’t focus on the ship, i just want Josuke and okuyasu to have wacky adventures together, or fics where their relationship can be read as romantic or platonic, hell fics that have them as an established relationship already and the fic actually focuses on adventures they have or them playing video games or going to Tonio’s or even messing with Rohan, rather than them confessing to each other or going on dates plz I’m fucking starving over here
Other than that, fics that are too occ aren’t my thing, I’m fine with a lil bit occ as I can’t realistically expect a person other than Araki himself to be able to truly write Josuke completely in character, and I humbly think nobody truly can, that includes me, it’s just a matter of can this writer get Josuke to be in character the best they can (which mostly they can actually and they do an amazing job at it <333)

if i could pick your massive brain for a minute, what do you think kakyoin and avdol's relationship is like?
they have criminally minimal interactions in canon with one of the only ones coming to mind being the "your own stand could kill you if you're not strong enough" convo which was more of avdol seemingly info dumping on kakyoin unprompted in the manga. at least the anime made it a bit more of a conversation... really thinking on it the anime added an... alright? amount for them what with moments in the n'doul arc (even if they were snatched from jotaro) and the moment in the hospital after that. bless the anime's added moments
HIII OMG I'M ABSOLUTELY ECSTATIC THAT YOU'RE INTERESTED IN MY AVDOL AND KAKYOIN THOUGHTS <3333 I DO THINK ABOUT THEM SO MUCH WAHH
i agree with what you said, their on-screen interactions are INCREDIBLY limited and it makes me so fucking sad because they're the best characters of part 3 like GOD DAMMIT araki can't you do fucking anything right on purpose. anyway but based on what we DO have:
kakyoin definitely looks up to avdol a lot i think. avdol is one of the people he very much respect, which is why he enjoyed listening to avdol rather than making avdol listen to Him for a change. i conclude this because of avdol being the only other lifelong standuser he's met (so far) and being someone who was able to avoid the sway of dio and prevent himself from getting fleshbudded. i think kakyoin kinda forgets avdol is a person at first though; i think every time he sees him, he sees who he wants to be but was too cowardly and closed off to become
avdol on the other hand sees kakyoin as kinda a ghost of standusers he's met in the past (ie, the standusers they meet on the journey. avdol clearly knew them beforehand considering his knowledge of them, and since they're almost all from cairo, i assume they grew up together or at least near each other). i think he sees kakyoin as someone he wants to protect if just so he doesn't have to see kakyoin become like his ex-friends, if just to soothe his own conscience
however, as they both interact and spend more time together, they start to see each other as real people and not just the impressions they got. i think kakyoin drags out the humorous side of avdol; he refuses to believe avdol is just always 100 percent patient and polite and kind. avdol laughs at kakyoin's mean jokes and kakyoin is like "vindication." ironically, considering kakyoin is the one that looks up to avdol, i think avdol learns self-acceptance from kakyoin irt his personality and his stand. i think both kakyoin and avdol loved India a lot and i think they explored it a bit for the time they were there together. i bet after yellow temperance, kakyoin and avdol have some chai in the lobby near the fireplace and avdol talks about his previous adventures in India, and kakyoin is listening so intently and butting in with "did you do x cultural norm or y cultural norm in z city?" and avdol answers all his questions patiently and just UGHGHG KAKYOIN FEELS HEARD THEY BOTH DO
kakyoin never stops looking up to avdol and avdol never stops feeling protective of kakyoin, but it adjusts into something easygoing, camaraderie. avdol is able to take care of kakyoin (such as patching up wounds (avdol is the one with the first aid kit in the first part of sdc), giving advice, etc) and kakyoin is able to accept it because he looks up to and trusts avdol (also it helps that avdol isn't smothering in his care; he treats it like it's natural and kakyoin can almost believe it). i think they're both able to rely on each other pretty quick
^ that's why kakyoin cries when avdol gets shot and he thinks he's death. avdol was who he wants to be and avdol was one of the only people who was gentle with him in a way he could accept, in a way that doesn't wound his pride, and he got stolen from him only after a couple of weeks. he's pissed
cut to avdol joining the team again, i think avdol is the only one kakyoin tells about death 13 after the fight. he's just desperate for someone, anyone to believe him, if anyone would understand it'd be avdol, avdol knows, avdol's been in the same trenches he has, avdol would know. and avdol does know. he didn't know mannish baby but I'm sure he's seen dream stands before but also most importantly, avdol trusts kakyoin's judgement irt stands. he knows enough about stands to know kakyoin understands them too. it's a world they both grew up in. and it relieves kakyoin so, so much
im sure kakyoin asks about avdol's ties to tarot and im sure avdol explains his complicated history with it (this goes into my view of avdol's backstory but that's another post.) i think kakyoin understands where avdol is coming from and i think it takes some weight off of avdol's shoulders. im sure avdol does a tarot reading for kakyoin once, speaking of
when they get wounded in the n'doul fight I'm sure avdol demands they be put in the same rooms cause even if he's not staying long, he wants to make sure kakyoin is okay. kakyoin is snappy about it cause he's stressed out and scared but he doesn't tell avdol to fuck off and when they get the news kakyoin's eyes will probably be fine avdol hugs kakyoin and kakyoin can't find it in him to push him away (he hugs him back)
when avdol dies for real i think kakyoin just doesn't even allow himself to think about it, he needs to focus on other things or he knows he's going to get scared. he's already scared. he's shaking in the manga when they find out. but he can't dwell on it because he knows avdol would say they need to focus on the mission first (similar to what avdol said to polnareff and iggy)
but then kakyoin follows in avdol's footsteps and dies the same way. I'm sure some part of him feels vindicated that in a way, he did become like avdol. he did grow enough to be on a similar level
anyway when kakyoin dies and goes to whatever the jojo afterlife is i think avdol sees him and bursts into tears and cries and screams cause "you were only 17 you weren't supposed to die kakyoin you were so young you weren't supposed to die" and i think kakyoin cries too then, mourning both his own life and avdol's. they were both too young
anyway basically i think they both see a chance for salvation in each other; kakyoin sees a future version of himself he wants in on in avdol, and avdol sees a past version of himself/old friends that he can save now in kakyoin. and as they accept the other as whole people, i think they joke around and tease and become like brothers. kakyoin definitely is ruthlessly screaming at avdol about "THE FRENCHMAN??? REALLY? FUCKING REALLY????" and avdol is like "shut UP!!! SHUT UP NORIAKI!!!!" also i know i know i know avdol makes some joke about taking in moody strays (iggy and kakyoin) and kakyoin and iggy are both like SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!! with the same snarl it's very funny. i think kakyoin feels truly safe in avdol and i think avdol feels secure enough to be himself around kakyoin; he doesn't need to be the stiff, neutral, polite, competent version of himself he portrayed at the start. this is his friend, his brother, and he deserves honesty. kakyoin won't let him hide he drags it out of him. anyway yeah

Would you have preferred if Fugo betrayed the gang as intended? (dunno if there are any concrete sources confirming that was the original plan but still)
It depends on how it would have been executed, but generally, no. For two main reasons:
1) Fugo had the same free choice that the others did - stay or go. It wasn't a case of "with us or against us," which would've perhaps made a betrayal scenario more plausible. If he was being forced to pick sides in a battle, I could see a subplot where he struggles with having to make an allegiance with forces that are actively working to stop Bucciarati et al. But as the problem is presented to all of them, it's a choice to act or not. Which brings me to:
2) Fugo made an extremely, like, laughably rational choice to not stir the boat. I mean...rock the boat and or stir the pot. (This is the migraine this is what it does.) In his mind, the orders to deliver Trish were completed, albeit unsuccessfully, and he had no new orders from the boss. So whatever, time to go home and get back to the grind. Deciding to follow Bruno at this point - and, in truth, Giorno - would've been like...yknow all those articles about "quiet quitting" where they're really just describing the phenomenon of not killing yourself for the corporation just bc your boss might be disappointed if you don't? That's what Fugo did. He wasn't about to do all this extra work that would've most likely gotten him killed. He's a smart boy.
Araki did say in an interview somewhere that he planned to have Fugo turn against the Bucci Gang, because a friend in his life had betrayed him and he was thinking of using that hurt for VA, but ultimately decided against it. I wish Fugo hadn't completely fallen out of the story, but I don't know what else he could've possibly done besides lie low, bc his capos were gone and contacting anyone else in Passione ran the risk of tipping off more squads to Bucciarati's plans/whereabouts. The only part I like about PHF is where Fugo fucks off and plays piano in dive bars for 6 months tbh.

Jjba Stone Ocean Ep 13-22 Thoughts
Tumblr media
50% Crying about F.F. %40 Sports Maxx arc %10 Making fun of Anasui. Also Pucci is there.
Ep 13-14
A lot happening this arc. I don't really know where to start. Let's talk Ermes first.
Turns out, Ermes ended up in prison to get revenge on her older sister's killer, who is getting out of prison in a year. Araki says Ermes's position in the story is like Polnareff's (in the stand commentaries iirc) though their arcs are handled very differently.
The most important one is that Ermes's revenge is framed as a good thing. Polnareff got Avdol "killed" in his pursuit. Much like Ermes, he didn't care what would happen to himself as long as he got his revenge. Kakyoin says Polnareff shouldn't go sacrifice himself. They both lack self preservation. They both run on their own and refuse to get help from others. Ermes straight up ran in for the kill and got severely injured for it.
What I'm trying to say is Ermes's revenge is framed as good (mostly) while Polnareff's is framed as bad. Her sister comes from the heaves to hug her when she kills Sports Maxx. She does it alone at the end too. If her arc was a counter-argument to part 3's in some way it would be one thing but it doesn't do that at all. If Polnareff's arc never happened I wouldn't have cared about the message of this arc but It's so hard to ignore it when part 6 is basically the direct sequel to part 3. It's looks like Ermes just got lucky that no one got gravely hurt or kicked the bucket.
I don't wanna be mean. Pol is one of my favourites and I already like Ermes a lot. I don't wanna make it sound like Pol's arc is great either. It has it's own issues.
Tumblr media
There is still a lot of stuff I liked though. I liked the visuals and the music of this arc especially. The shot of Ermes landing the killing blow along with the music is obviously amazing, it's over the top but I adore that. The music playing is Dio's world iirc. It plays at the finale of both part 3 and part 4 when the main casts face off against the villain. It plays here because Sports Maxx is Ermes's main villain. I don't think Sports Maxx is cool enough to deserve this theme but I like the effect regardless. I appreciate it when music from part 3 plays every now and then.
This might just be me being an F.F. fanboy but I really liked the part when they shot the alligator straight in the mouth. Determination is one of my favourite tracks from part 6. I might like it a bit more than the main theme.
Tumblr media
So she can use her strings to sense movement in the area around her. Ok. Okay.
(This bit is from later episodes but it fits better here)Talking to Sports Maxx, Pucci says "There is a fixed amount of souls in the universe". And then he talks about how if someone had thousands of souls at once. Now I know that this is referring to the green baby, I initially thought this was because there weren't enough souls. Since the number is is fixed souls would get divided in the afterlife maybe. It's sort of interesting to think about. If there are too many souls do they get destroyed? Or jjba has already reached the limit and souls are getting reincarnated. Reused, if you will.
Pucci does care about Dio but I do think their relationship was more transactional than he would like to admit. It's not as bad as Dio but Pucci does treat everyone around him like tools, and cannot trust others enough to connect with them. The concept of heaven is too vague for me to comment on it right now, though I do think it is not as different from Christian kind as you might think at first.
Ep 15-16
Tumblr media
Anasui is a character that exists. I saw him way before I got into jjba. I liked his design back then and he still has one of my favourite designs now. I remember seeing a post saying "How can such a naked character have this many articles of clothing" and I think about it every day.
Personality wise... I'm sorry but he is just so fucking boring. He is a murdered that likes disassembling things and he loves Jolyne. That's it that's the whole thing. His specific obsession with "marrying" her could be interesting potentially. Then you could ask "Why does he care about marrying Jolyne so much? What is his view of marriage to begin with? Any personal history about that? Maybe his worldview might relate to it. etc. etc.
Another interesting thing is why he is with Weather and Emporio in the first place. Emporio says Weather is the only person who keeps him in check. I am interested in seeing them interact now.
It's a shame they changed Anasui's gender early on. I love problematic lesbians, if my adoration for Shiori and Homura means anything.
The survivor fight could have been shorter. That's all I'm gonna say I thought it was kinda boring tbh. Other than Jolyne flipping off the guard 4 different ways.
Tumblr media
Ep 17-18
F.F. my best friend F.F.
I don't really have much to say about episodes 16 to 20 as it's mostly fighting. I think Dragon's Dream is a cool concept and it was executed pretty well. What can you do against an enemy when fate has their back? This arc also has the issue of being too long I think. Some of the bits drag on for too long.
Jolyne tunning to save F.F. despite all her injuries... My heart... I love them..
Ep 19-20
Tumblr media
Jotaro not letting anyone take off his hat while in a coma, with no memories and half a soul. Jjba is pretty funny when it wants to be.
Jotaro injuring himself and it just happens to spell Jolyne. And the same cuts show up on Jolyne too. I get some families in jjba have psychic links but this is too much. My suspension of disbelief can only go so far. I can excuse the Dio bone plot but I draw the line at this.
Anasui actually tells F.F. to push Jolyne so he can hug her with zero shame. F.F. rightfully calls this sexual harassment. How does plankton who entered society like a few weeks ago has better morals than him. Get your shit together Anasui.
People loathe Yo Yo Ma. I don't think it is as bad as some say. Don't get me wrong though, it is bad. It's main problem is that it's really fucking boring. I shit you not I almost fell asleep while watching this which is absolutely huge for someone like me who takes an hour to fall asleep. It's not the worst part of jojo but it is up there.
Ep 21-22
Tumblr media
Well after the pretty boring stretch we got the last few episodes we get this gem -> completely ignoring the green baby thing
Wow so much to talk about that Dio and Pucci interaction huh. I was initally iffy on what Dio's character was going but I'm loving it.
Do you remember Dio's whole peace of mind way back in part 3? I mentioned it while talking about Kira but I never thought it would be relevant again. Arakkiiiiii please more of this.
So firstly, this pretty much confirms peace of mind is what Dio seeks despite talking about humans. Dio from birth had absolutely zero time to chill, he couldn't trust anyone, he couldn't depend on anyone. Pucci is the person he is closest to but even then he cannot fully trust him.
This is just speculation from my part but maybe that's what heaven is? That serenity, the ease. For someone like Dio who has made so many fucking enemies by this point that peace of mind is not really possible for him outside of reaching heaven. Much to think about.
Also Leonardo Da Vinci is a stand user. This is the jjba equivalent of Joan of Arc being a magical girl in pmmm to me. Why would you tell me this.
Tumblr media
Araki can't play with my heart like this. I thought F.F. might make it for a second.
F.F. started to have flashbacks and all I could think was "It's so over". The fight with White Snake was incredibly tense. Having a stand disc like that on hand was a good idea from Pucci.
The moment when Weather caused rain to help F.F. was so hype. It's a good comeback. I always love seeing White Snake suffer. He is annoying as shit.
Jolyne hugging "Weather" was really wholesome despite what we learn later. Despite what Anasui thinks I don't think there is gonna be a romance between the two. More like a positive male figure in her life (Which she seems to lack).
Then here is my least favourite insulting my fave and you already know what I'm gonna say. It would be one thing if Anasui talked shit about F.F. after Ep 22. But Anasui just keeps going on about how they don't deserve to live and that they are lesser because they aren't human and dude. F.F. hasn't even done anything. They only told you to stop being a immature baby about Jolyne hugging a guy when they've got Pale Snake to deal with, rightly so. I'm not even mad I just have no idea why he is reacting like this. All this shit talk over nothing and F.F. still decides to save Anasui instead of themselves.
I didn't see the reveal coming at all. It's was as much of a surprise to me as the characters because 1. I am dumb 2. I don't think Pale Snake has shape shifted up to this point.
Pucci's remarks about how much Jolyne has grown is definitely true. I thought she was just as immature as the other protags despite being older than most of em but that's definitely not the case anymore. My girl ate the musrooms growing on her bedframe in prison. Just to get a chance at saving her father. She has definitely grown... Stone Free grew with her too.
F.F. is not the most unique character. There are so many media that has handled "someone with a newly acquired consciousness learning what it means to be alive" trope way better. But I still found it heartwarming. They are just happy to be there and I appreciate that. They have memories and people dear to them. F.F. didn't have a life before meeting Jolyne. Living a life gave them a reason to sacrifice it for their loved ones. They have a soul now and here come the tears again
Tumblr media
Love getting emotional about jjba because I will look at what I am actually crying at and it's the goofiest most nonsensical shit ever and I instantly stop
One thing that's weird is why F.F. without a body looks like Atroe instead of their normal design. Their soul too. I know why they did it and it was the better choice probably. To us Atroe look is F.F. Plus it's easier to make it emote than the Foo Fighters form.

I think your opinions about part two forgetting about characters are so true everytime I think about bt I think about the wasted potential from so many characters 😭 wishing smokey had more screen time frr
LIKE I THINK THERE ISNT A SINGLE CHARACTER IN BATTLE TENDENCY (excluding the literal fucking nazi's they should NOT have been apart of that story) THAT WASNT WASTED POTENTIAL
LIKE JOSEPH HIMSELF HIS SUCH A HUGE CASUALTY TO THIS
joseph up until the end of the Straizo fight, carried sUCH a specfic character
he wasnt afraid to speak his mind even if his opinion was unpopular or could get him hurt, to the point were he was picking fights with racist cops and basically JUMPING at the chance to protect Smokey and quickly befriending him and absorbing him into him and Erina's family sitation
JOSEPH LOVED ERINA. Erina and Josephs relationship in BT is swept under the rug SO fast or how the anime cut a bit of it, breaks my heart. You can tell their relationship is built on how their the only family either of them has left. they only have each other and Joseph would do ANYTHING for her. its why he picks a fight when they say speedwagon is dead, because he didnt want to see Erina distressed or sad. its why he picked a fight with Straizo because he killed speedwagon. Erina in turn is SO scared for Joseph and doesnt want to see him in harms way.. or on the lighter notes of their silly cute banter where they love to back and forth, or erina in the resturant who pulls out the line of letting joseph tell him to kick ass his Smokeys honor but to not bother the other patrons.. so good
JOSEPH WHO CRIED FOR SPEEDWAGON WHEN HE ASSUMED HIM DEAD
JOSEPH WHO WHEN MEETING SANTANA IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO ASSUME THE BEST IN HIM AND UNDERSTAND HIM FROM HIS POV
then it feels like Joseph met Caesar and all this character they built up for joseph kinda went out the window in favor of JUST the shit head silly trickster traits being amped up...
and again, i already said this on the other post but Caesar is wasted, i dont love him but i like the idea of what all he could have been for josephs character. he was set to be a PERFECT foil for him..
and the pillar men feel so, weirdly written
tHEN LISA LISA LIKE TALK ABOUT WASTED POTENTIAL MAN
she coulda done SSOOOO MUCH
LIKE WHY DID WE NOT GET ANY OF JOSEPHS TRAINING
i would have KILLED to see joseph train with lisa lisa,,, leaving room to hint at Lisa's reveal at josephs mother...
to even allow some training/shenanigans between Caesar and Joseph to get them a chance to even trY acting like they were suppous to be friends. because me watching it? it doesnt feEl like they liKED each other??? it feels like joseph found Caesar way more interesting after fucking DIED
araki wasnted all of BT potential being a shit writer im gonna explode him with my mind

I love love LOVE old queerness. I hate respectability politics.
Like yeah queer stuff from before was super iffy and problematic compared to nowadays but back then? Back then being gay was something edgy it was something you were fighting for your life for and people were dying all around you it wasn’t burying your gays it was Tuesday. Yeah you used a slur about yourself because there wasn’t a single word describing what you were that WASNT a slur and that made you DANGEROUS
Brokeback mountain and parting glances and the childrens hour ending with death and tragedy was EXPECTED. If someone knew you were gay you were dead. greg arakis work being about the end of the world and nihilistic but with small hopeful moments.
Campy things like divine and But I’m a cheerleader and some like it hot, gay deceivers, they were GOOD rep for their times. They said YES WE ARE WEIRD AND STRANGE AND WERE FUCKING HERE LOOK AT US.
MCR talking about feeling dangerous because they looked like “fucking cupcakes” and put on eyeliner in truck stops. Greenday having pansy division open for them. Saying “maybe I’m the faggot American” and being punk BECAUSE they’re queer, because being queer meant at its core being anti American.
I respect people who are voidpunk gender, who use it/it’s, who refer to themselves as dykes.
Pride isn’t queer Christmas, it’s more comparable to that saying about Jewish holidays: “They tried to kill us, we survived, let’s eat.” For us it’s “they tried to get rid of us, I survived bitch, and I’m proud of what you hate about me.”
Being queer is not the norm, being queer means being a black sheep, being radical and out there and punk. I think to often we forget how easy we have it in comparison compared to those who came before us, I think to often we forget existing in a world that doesn’t want us means we are badass.

So I finished Stardust Crusaders
Geez I wish I'd typed one of these for PB and BT but wellp that's the privilege SC gets for giving me a lot to talk about anyways here we go long post ahead
So okay I dunno who knows this from Twitter but I've been livetweeting all of JJBA in this thread, or specifically from this tweet onwards if you wanna see the SC stuff. That outta the way I do have some Onions on this part
First of all I loved BT and I cradle it in my arms every time I think about it if that provides context but ANYWAY ON WITH THE SHOW HERE
What I liked
I loved!! The characters themselves!!! I loved the dynamics that the Crewsaders (I saw Sage use that term and I stole it lol) had together. In particular I've found myself to be really weak for the friendship between Polnareff and Kakyoin lmfao like. LIKE:
Tumblr media
These two have a very very stupid relationship together that hooked me in the second I saw them do that stupid fucking handshake in the submarine. And tbh while the handling of Joseph could've done some work I looooooved getting to see him be stupid again even in his fuckin' what fifties? I love him
Kakyoin isn't really there all that much and is mostly The Smart Guy but he's earned my blorbofication also. Kakyoin is just fantastic. I like him a lot, and I think he had a lot of potential if he were explored more, but even as he stands in canon he's like [bathes him in slime] :) he's in his natural habitat
(Because you will subscribe to my headcanon that Kakyoin likes slime. He has slime bottles. What the fuck is Emerald Splash but some fucked up slime)
That said I don't quite understand jotakak tbh but I like it and I'm all for it
Jotaro's MO being gaslighting also made me die laughing when I realized that was exactly what he was doing. He really is Joseph's grandson
I also liked a lot of the villains. Hol Horse, obviously. Vanilla Ice was also kind of a "holy shit girl help" kind of deal and fun to watch, though I wish he'd been around for longer. I liked Pet Shop and N'Doul too. I also liked the concept of the killer baby lmao. And oh oh even though I didn't really like her I think Enyaba's arc was extremely fun and had potential to be really fucked up
Tumblr media
I also liked the showdown against Dio a LOT. I thought it was real menacing and while it kind of fell apart at the end I think that was satisfying to watch, and I was DELIGHTED to see my babygirl return and eat an entire ham on stage. Also Kakyoin and Avdol are both totally alive and well :) I accept my downfall and join the copium gangs
(Iggy is on trial)
Also I had a running gag about the Crewsaders not getting to eat a meal for the entire show without it getting ruined or interrupted (this post kind of summarizes it) and I really do miss that little bit of stupid humour already
What I didn't like
Why the FUCK did Araki think it'd be a great idea to pad out the story with the ENTIRE arcana as villains showing up within the first half of the story. So many enemies got reduced to jokes, and then he brings in EVEN MORE enemies as Egyptian gods and it's like... see THOSE had interesting abilities, but I was so burnt out on wanting to get the plot moving already, damn it, that I didn't have that much fun. N'Doul and Pet Shop were fine. I liked what Anubis did, and then he got turned into a joke. The rest? Mostly also turned into jokes too. Whatever
I already detailed a lot of my issues here but to summarize that post Part 3 genuinely disappointed me with how much of a slog it was to get through. That combined with its tone being stuck between serious and funny until Araki comes in and goes like "Oh fuck the ending is here and I wasted all this time fucking around?? Uhhhh ok wait" then he kills Avdol and goes "haha TIME TO CRYYYY" as if that were gonna work. At least Kakyoin's death felt more gut-wrenching (haha ow) because the tone was already serious, but that's still a cop-out to me
Like Araki's writing at the end of SC literally feels like this image
Tumblr media
Anyway.
And I bring up the tone issue because Hol Horse had this too. I mention it in the post but Hol Horse going from a serious scene with Dio like this
Tumblr media
To shooting himself in the fucking head for a cheap joke
What, and pardon my Spanish, the absolute fuck was that. This extends to Dio too because--oh we beat him with a kick? Ok. He already did such a big deal out of sucking grandpa silly so now he's so powerful he literally turned Joker moment digging his own nails into his skull and he's a MADMAN and THREATENING and whoop we kick him and he goes poof like a piñata. Your huge villain, killed like a fly within seconds. Bro.
God. Anyway.
Unfortunately I also find that Polnareff is both a character I love and a character I hate. I loved the way he developed, his struggles, his friendships. Polnareff was for better or for worse the heart of the crew. I feel like he's the type of guy to genuinely ask everyone how they're doing and check in on their feelings whenever he's stopped being a piece of shit diva going woe is me and getting mad for being bullied by everyone. I like him for that
But Polnareff also takes up so much screentime... screentime that should've been devoted to other members of the cast. Kakyoin pulled a Caesar and got his shit explained the episode he DIED. Joseph got reduced to an old man joke and Hamon to a sidenote. Avdol got put on a bus for most of the show and died twice to save fucking Polnareff. And Iggy would've been interesting if he hadn't been a literal fart joke from the start of his stay
And Jotaro... bro Jotaro. I found him extremely compelling in the fight with Dio and the last few episodes where he revealed that gaslight gatekeep girlboss is his MO. I love that about him. I think he's fascinating for that. Nerves of steel but realizing he needs others to break before he does so he can do anything substantial. Cool as fuck. Ok now why did he get all this screentime and development in the second half while Polnareff was having an existential crisis about sacrifice and death and several episodes to himself
It's complicated. I love Polnareff. I hate Polnareff. Just.
Tumblr media
Final thoughts
Part 3 is flawed. I can see where Araki improved as a writer and where he still needs polish, and I hope these issues get addressed in Part 4. But Part 3 is absolutely overhyped and I'm not that happy w it overall, and since I hear Part 5 absolutely fucks, I hope it lives up to that and I don't get swindled by the popularity hiding some glaring problems nobody seems to talk about when I mention it beforehand
Although to be fair, most of my issues with the show boil down to "why did we waste so much time" tbh. We spent so damn long frolicking in the sand making fart dick and bullying jokes I eventually stopped watching for a week just to calm down and prepare myself to waste more time. That hadn't happened to me, even with PB. It was a shock
I will eventually revisit Part 3 as I get a friend through this w me though, and we'll see if my thoughts change at all with the rewatch. For now though... thank fuck it's over (affectionate)

"yall are just jealous that he wound up w/ her in TWO universes" most definitely. lol all I'm saying, if we get more universes, cant araki just set me up with jolyne once, gotta wingman me here araki
I appreciate Araki for trying to keep Anasui a woman because I would legit kill for a yandere lesbian love interest. But the editors iirc (RUMORED) said "you have too many women in this one, change one of them to a man so Weather/Emporio/one more guy can make sure we retain male readers since this is still a shonen"
But regardless of gender, Anasui's based and Jolynepilled and fucking insanely violent. The man disassembled a dude's ribs and made him into a living trap, and turned another old man's legs into springs ffs
