Some doodles for my (possible?) first ever fic, a selkie y/n DA au where you, dear reader, are the selkie, and the DA’s (one in each body this time!) are oceanic exploratory robots built to gather research and study! However, the owner of the coporation funding these robots, might not exactly have the best interests in mind, completely unknown to the DA’s..  not sure what to call it yet so for now it’ll just be The Selkie Search!

Continued with @detective-with-one-arm from here.
While she was explaining, she could see the sheer confusion on Alma’s face. So, she opted to find her phone to show him what she was talking about. Once she managed to find it and get a hold of it, she showed Alma pictures of the creatures she was talking about and the forests they lived in.
His question made Rachel feel sad. There was a lot about humans that was…conditional. And she didn’t like that it was conditional. “Well, who knows? Maybe it’s only a matter of time.” Or maybe it would go in the opposite direction and people would start capturing them to keep them.
Like pets. She didn’t want that, either.
His next question caught her by surprise. Was it really such a surprised that she could swim? “Lots of land animals can swim. Moose, which is a really big species of deer further up north, actually swim down to the kelp beds to graze there. Which is how orcas are one of their main predators. They’re the big black whales with the big white spots that look like eyes.”
She wiggled her feet for emphasis. “But yeah! I can swim. For a surprisingly long time, too. I had a lot of endurance training when I was small and taking lessons. It’s important to know how to swim in case of an emergency especially, but humans also swim for fun. So, for a number of years when I was younger, there were other humans teaching me and other kids how to swim. How to tread water. How to dive. All of that.”
It didn’t quite register in her head what Alma was asking. She only got the idea that he wanted to spend more time with her, which she didn’t mind at all.
Alma looked at the curious little device she showed him as she scrolled through pictures of wolves. Fuzzy, four legged creatures. Interesting. He was almost more interested in the phone she was showing him on than in the animals themselves. He'd never seen a phone up close before. His head tilted back and forth as he watched it, the light coming off of it reflecting in his milky eyes.
At Rachel's encouragement, Alma looked back at her and nodded his head. He wasn't so sure she was right, but he hoped she was. He wanted to be friends with the humans. But right now, he was too afraid of most of them. But Rachel herself was different than most humans. She hadn't bee afraid of him or reacted violently when he'd found her sitting in her boat crying...
He was glad she wasn't crying anymore.
As she went on to explain to Alma that many creatures that normally stayed on land could still swim, he blinked slowly at her. None of them seemed to swim as deep in the water as Alma usually did. Otherwise he might have seen them. Then again, the ocean was a big place. Sometimes he went a very long time in the depths without seeing another living thing at all.
Rachel assured him that she could swim well too, so maybe she could come live with him under the water. Then they could be different together, just as she'd said. "How deep can you dive?" he asked her. Even some sea creatures and other mers couldn't go as deep as he could. "How long can you swim? Could you live with me in the water?"

I've been musing over a few thoughts inspired by this ask about a mafia-ish style of Apex Polarity without it being too close to Pearl Eye, and after watching a few videos of Orcas hunting their prey (which included dolphins), landed on a sort of Mafia inspired Apex Polarity AU
Also not to add another Y/N to Orclipse's growing collection but this Y/N is a white-beaked dolphin. Look! They're so beautiful!
Tumblr media
Sirens are cunning, brutal, and take everything with teeth and claws. The strongest kill and maim at a whim. As a siren who's not particularly strong, though incredibly agile, with a tail streamlined and dark gray with white patches, fins curved and mostly black, you're somewhere at the bottom. You're doing your best to survive and avoid trouble. You pick your battles and you pick your escapes, and most importantly, you stay alive.
But then you do something really stupid: you venture where you shouldn't have.
You don't usually swim so far up north but you're hungry, and the thought of a few tasty squids distracts you from the silent waters and vast, blue emptiness. You realize a bit too late that you're not the only one hunting.
You catch the first orca siren in the distance as a dark figure, and then another. Two who immediately cut through the water, charging straight for you like shadows. Though you turn tail and bolt, you quickly spot them in the corner of your vision. They easily keep pace, their size and strength overwhelming as they flank you on both sides, wide grins flashing their deadly teeth. You can hardly look at the mismatched color of their eyes as you dodge and weave, diving down only to be cut off by one with midnight blue colors at the tip of his flukes, and shooting off to the left just to almost be snatched by the black-bone claws of a siren with bright yellow fins framing his head.
They're toying with you. You know that for a fact in how they just barely keep back, corraling you onwards, draining your already spent energy, and picking at your panicking pulse. You have no choice but to avoid the edges of their jaws and the tips of their talons, and swim in the direction they want.
You near a field of ice floes floating on the water, and though you cut into the jagged structures dipping into the sea, the orca sirens never lose you. A desperate need for air pushes you onward. One small drop of hope still burns in your chest. Despite the aching of your muscles, you steal a gulp of oxygen and dip back down once more, charging away—
Only to run smack into a third orca siren.
This one grabs you, his burning red and orange colors filling your vision. The other two orcas join to help their kin keep you in place long enough for you to truly regret ever venturing here. Between the three of what you can only assume are brothers, hands hooked over you shoulders, claws clutching your wrists, and palms pressing into your hips, you're a fish caught in a net.
You brace for a voilent end. It never arrives. Instead of digging into your sweet meat, the sirens offer you a deal. The tips of sharp fingertips trace your jawline and the soft inside of your arms and down your slick tail while they explain.
You keep watch for human ships and report back when they're getting close, and in exchange, you get the best food you can imagine, the entire Arctic Ocean to swim, and anything else you'd like. The best benefit? You're under their protection. Of course, they expect utter loyalty from you. You are no one else's. Failure to devote yourself to this work and the brothers would mean a grisly fate, but hey, you're nothing if not eager to not be torn apart. So you agree.
You have a few questions about this whole arrangement, struggling to understand why they, powerful orca sirens, bother with a smaller fish like you when they could rip you limb from limb and be done. What's with the human ships? Why task you to this? Are you just fodder so they can keep their fins nice and unscabbed? They reassure you that they'll explain in due time (the sunny one booping your nose, much to your chagrin), but for now, all you know to know is that the human ships are a problem, and you are their solution for it. You've never really encountered humans before, but they've never really encountered sirens, or so you thought.
The burning red one lets you go, but you don't slip away too far before he tugs on your flukes and tells you to follow him. It's not a request. The darker blue one leaves for a moment, jetting away as the other two guide you to a nice resting place on an icy shore. They introduce themselves, and then their brother reappears with a squid in hand, half dead, and an insistence that you eat—they could tell during the chase that you didn't have all your energy.
And that's how you unwittingly join a very powerful pod of orca brothers who may or may not be teasing and taunting you simultaneously.

Cheers! Of course I have “happy” AUs! I’m not bloody and gory all the time.
I just don’t have a whole bunch of them.
The best examples of “good” AUs are listed below.
I
I

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Winged!au:
The winged!AU is an AU where everyone has (drumroll please) wings! These wings grow upon the person who has them from birth. The people with these wings as time passes will become more and more like the bird the wings belong to. When puberty hits, it becomes especially difficult to function properly in society, and so most kids are kept home and eventually lose their birdie instincts.
Sunny: Common Crow
Sunny has the wings (and smartness) of the common crow. Everything is the same as the original game, just that the accident never happened. Currently past the “puberty” phase. He flys competitively in school.
Mari: Raven
Mari has the wings (and smartness) of a raven. Everything is the same as the original game, just that the accident never happened. Currently past the “puberty” phase. Plans to try and get a flying scholarship for college (yes that exists here).
Hero: Falcon
Hero has the wings (and speed) of a falcon. Everything is the same as the original game, just that the accident never happened. Has already acquired a flying scholarship for college (he plans to go to the same one as Mari) He actually is more interested in running than flying, but a free scholarship is a free scholarship. He tutors Mari and Sunny in flying techniques when he can.
Kel: Roadrunner
Kel has the wings (and legs) of a roadrunner. Everything is the same as the original game, just that the accident never happened. Though only in middle school, he’s one of the fastest runners in Faraway. He’s even gotten a scholarship for it. He’s one of the only birds in town that can both run and fly fast. He’s on the same flying team as Sunny, so it was inevitable that they would become friends.
Aubrey: Kingfisher
Aubrey has the wings (and feathers) of a kingfisher. Everything is the same as the original game, just that the accident never happened. Aubrey swims for the school swim team, so fast that she too got a scholarship for college. She looks up to Mari for her knowledge and as a sister figure.
Basil: Humming bird
Basil has the wings (and heart) of a hummingbird. Everything is the same as the original game, just that the accident never happened. Basil is a homeschooled child due to his heart condition. He can’t fly for long periods of time or he will actually have a heart attack and fucking DIE. He constantly needs “sugar” (anything with large amounts of sugar like sodas, sweets, and other things) or his heart will stop working correctly. He met the group at the park when looking for plants to pot in his house.
This AU revolves around the goofy shenanigans and fun the group commit. Nothing “bad” happens here. It’s rare for any AU I’ve made.
Animal!au:
The animal!AU is an AU where everyone is an animal. Huh. Who would’ve guessed. They all live in the wild in a forest called Faraway.
Sunny: Black Cat
Mari: Ragdoll Cat
Kel: Stray Dog (Labrador)
Hero: Stray Dog (Golden retriever)
Aubrey: Rabbit
Basil: Hedgehog
Aquatic!au:
The aquatic!AU is an AU that is basically the same as the animal!AU but with aquatic animals.
Sunny: Reef blenny
Mari: Purple octopus
Hero: Beta fish
Kel: Orange axolotl
Aubrey: Pink hermit crab
Basil: Leafy sea dragon

Happy mermay everybody! I doodled my Aquatic AU of Alma to celebrate. He's got his hand on the glass of the tank and looks very amused with himself. I imagine he just jump scared some poor person by swimming up to the aquarium window real fast and and is snickering now while watching them run away.
Tumblr media
Anyways, I'm gonna take a nap and then when I get back, I'll answer all my sinday asks. Don't be afraid to send more in while I snooze.

Hc that different types of elves are able to use magic in different ways/to different levels.
I will be focusing more on the avari and silvan elves as i am known to do:
Magic, in this sense, is more like the life force that flows through everything and everyone. Elves generate an extra amount of it which, they then can use through pathways in their body. Humans and dwarves, etc, are rarely able to use magic to an effective result bc they don’t generate as much as elves and aren’t built with the pathways to access it, though dwarves can occasionally channel the magic around them into the objects they create.
Silvans actually have a surprisingly high level of magic usage, even more than their valinorian counterparts, though most of it is passive. A surprising amount of people will hear “silvans can communicate with trees” and then never proceed to link it to magic usage. Of course it varies silvan to silvan, but a well trained silvan can actively use magic to protect and defend and lay down wards. Their link with the world around them through trees also allows them to boost their own magic when they need it. It’s because of this especially why silvans do not like being underground. Thranduil and Legolas are actually rather adept magic users, though they don’t show it off.
There’s also a type of elf that cannot use magic at all. These are the Fawneli elves. They are considered the strongest elves in the world, to the point they can pick up boulders the size of a palace and toss them about without breaking a sweat. They’re fast and their hardy. They are also referred to as “mini-giants” because it is as if someone took a giant and shrunk them, but kept all their strength in tact. However, in return for this strength, they are unable to use even the slightest bit of magic and are completely cut off from it. The Fawneli are mostly desert elves, and nomads. They don’t have a governing body and sadly most of them were hunted down and enslaved, which was made easier due to their vulnerability to magic of all kinds. There’s only a few dozen left in the world by the end of the third age.
If silvans were magic positive, and the Fawneli were magic neutral, than the Okreans are magic negative. Not only are they capable of seeing through any magic disguise of anyone, including maia and vala, but they are also mostly immune to any and all magic thrown at them. Whenever they are around, magic actively deteriorates. As a result, they are elves of science. And, as a result, the Valar do not like the Okreans as they see them as a threat bc of this immunity. Because the Vala saw them as a threat, they massacred the Okreans, with Tulkas and Orome themselves coming down to kill off these elves, during the second age. Only 8 Okreans surivied, including Kleoyia (though she was only 8 at the time), and they were cursed by the vala to live in agony untill they either killed themselves, or lost themselves to madness.
The Atric Elves share their magic with the forms of beasts. Individually, they cannot cast it the way most do, but rather they obtain the form of animals with their magic and get power through that. The Atric elves live in the the far north, mostly in the arctic circle, and thus tend to share the forms of arctic animals, whether they be from the land, air, or sea.
Aquatic elves are, as the name describes, elves that live in bodies of water, emphasis on in. Way back at the lake, they decided that the water was much safer than land, and so they took a plunge and never looked back. Aquatic elves are often refered to as mer-folk or sirens. Parts of their body take on shapes of aquatic life, and they come in many shapes and sizes. They have abit of a rivalry with the Atric elves, specifically the Atric elves that shape-shift into aquatic animal forms, as they compete for food. The silvans, however, they have a good trade relationship with. The Aquatic elves will provide silvans with good seafood, and in turn the silvans will give them a lot of land meat and vegetables the Aquatic elves can’t reach.
Sucian elves are probably the most common of Avari elves. They are also referred to as spiritual elves. Their magic mostly comes from their own power, and many will use tools in order to aid themselves. There are two major Sucian elf empires: the Bali’tsa empire and the Qitian empire. What is unique about the Sucian elves is that they can pass on their power to others, though it is extremely difficult. It is also the most diverse of the magic types, and tends to be more unique to each family.
Lastly you have the Agpetian elves, who get their power assigned to them, assumably by Eru himself. As far as i’m aware there’s no rhyme or reason as to why they get the magic they get, but when a child becomes 100 days old, their magic will display itself. As a result, they tend to be a little more…. Religious? Than other avari, though they do not worship or care for the valar at all.

Cleo is a seawing/skywing hybrid with a mix of traits, and the bio luminescence spots are outside of normal variation, likely making any aquatic talk very challenging. Not sure about the colors (might change) and wings are somewhat translucent on seawings so you can see more. Probably also lived nearby the seawing kingdom for some time before being put in the gladiator arena in the skywing kingdom. When a massive prison riot occurs she ends up escaping, along with the others, but I haven't the faintest clue what should happen next. This drawing is likely pre-gladiator arena, lacking a variety of scars they're sure to gain.
