The way I shrieked into the next century (and scared my roommate straight) when @taylorswift won AOTY.

I’m so happy and proud, because she truly deserves it. Didn’t even realize how anxious I was about it until I heard the results and felt the relief of it.

2020 Year-end list - #6

SAWAYAMA – RINA SAWAYAMA
Main Genres: Contemporary R&B, Dance Pop A decent sampling of: Electro Pop, Pop Rock, Alternative Metal, Art Pop
Rina Sawayama has been cultivating a distinctly loyal following of super fans over the past few years largely thanks to her one-of-a-kind charisma, her down-to-earth personality, and her incredibly ambitious vision as a popstar. She’s had a fair amount of critical success previously with singles like “Cyber Stockholm Syndrome” and “Alterlife” which both appeared on her 2017 debut EP Rina, but I would say that 2020 has really been her big moment as an artist. This is because her latest project and debut LP Sawayama has become somewhat of an internet pop behemoth, particularly in LGBTQIA+ spaces where the phrase “stream Sawayama” has essentially become its own meme phrase popping up in random comment sections. It’s not hard to see why this album has blown up, because Sawayama is a true expression of Rina’s amazing versatility as an artist and performer.
A very polished pop r&b style defines the album’s overall sound, but there's little bits and pieces of many different genres here - house, future bass, new jack swing, and even quite a bit of alternative metal. The stage is set perfectly for the elevated pop music experience that Sawayama has to offer with the larger-than-life rock opener “Dynasty”. Rina Sawayama's persona throughout this LP is that of a quirky badass dark horse pop diva and the underdog who ends up changing the game entirely. I'd go so far as to say that her bold personality is the strongest aspect of the entire album; no one could do this kind of music the way she does.
Other than that, it could also be her ability and her determination to use infectious pop music to unapologetically tackle important issues with clever lyrics and interesting production, like the way she tackles late stage capitalism on the r&b dancefloor track "XS" with its uncanny heavy metal guitar stabs, or how she addresses self-image on "Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)", all without neglecting the strength of the songs themselves. "Comme Des Garçons" in particular is such an undeniable pop banger with its heavy bass synths, slick production, and celebratory chorus that makes me long for her to give us a 10 minute club mix version. As an added bonus, the music videos for “Comme Des Garçons” as well as "XS" and "STFU!" are all equally polished, quirky, and hilarious and you should definitely check them out. Vulnerability is also one of the album’s key strengths, with songs like “Tokyo Love Hotel”, “Bad Friend”, and “Akasaka Sad” describing emotional experiences largely unique to Sawayama as a person with multiple nationalities stuck living between multiple homes.
Each song offers something different, and the short track lengths combined with the sonic variety makes for an exciting listening experience even after multiple listens. That being said, the surge of energetic and eclectic pop music that defines the album is brought to a bit of a halt with the slow sentimental ballad "Chosen Family", a track that I feel is under-developed and kills some of the album’s momentum right before the closing track. Still, I'm honestly just impressed with her ambition to explore so many different sounds on her debut LP. This album has left a lasting impression, and I'm keeping an eye out for all future Rina Swayama projects in the coming years. If Sawayama is any indication of her trajectory as an artist, then she's definitely gonna drop one of the best pop albums of the decade. Oh, and stream Sawayama 😘 8/10
Highlights: “Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)”, “Tokyo Love Hotel”, “XS”, “Dynasty”, “Bad Friend”

This woman deserves EVERYTHING, folklore isn't just an album but for many of us is something more. When it came out I was in a very rough time and then unexpectedly Taylor announced this masterpiece that literally saved my 2020. I've spent my days listening to this album, crying over the lyrics.
@taylorswift you deserve this and I'm so fking proud of you.
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand? Taylor Swift won album of the year at the Grammy for the third time and she's the only female artist with 3 aoty!

That win, was the most deserved win for Taylor, Jack and Aaron! That album brought so much joy and light to so many of us through dark times, and it continues to do so today. I cannot express just how happy my heart is right now for Taylor.
You’ve given me so much through the years taylor, and I hope I can one day repay you for that 💛❤️

So okay, I just want to share this to everyone.
Three weeks ago, I posted on my twt that i’ll be confessing to my crush once I achieved my desired grade. I expected worst since I wasn't really able to grasp the entire situation of dealing with online learning and I had a hard time keeping up with the lessons. But fortunately, I passed all my subjects and even got higher grades compared to all my grades before!
That was the first sign that I should confess to him.
Yet truth be told, I was struggling since I didn't know when to do that. I mean, I'm figuring out the perfect time to confess like, you just don't barge into someone else's room without knocking, right? (do you get the point?)
Anyway, here's what happened next. I actually saw on my fb timeline this post that says “If folklore will win aoty, I will make the first move to my crush” dhdjjdkd so I was in.
I swear, the entire time of illegally watching the grammys was so nerve-wracking since taylor was nominated on six categories but she didn't win five of them...except this one category!!!
She won the aoty (congrats my queen i love you so much im so proud of you !!) and I have to stick to my promise which is to confess to him this week.
That's the second sign.
I'm sharing this to y'all brcause I'm quite nervous and hopeful (lmao, don't) since I already have two SIGNS that urges me to confess to my crush. This is weird but I feel like this is the perfect time to do this.
phew, wish me a goodluck?

BMer’s Top 20 of 2020
1. The Weeknd - After Hours
pop
I love just about every thing on After Hours. Radio is going to play these songs to death which is really unfortunate because we are all getting sick of them already, but they are the best songs of the year. I jam tracks from this album every day.
Favorite Tracks: “Heartless” “Blinding Lights” “Hardest to Love” “Scared to Live”
“ ...don't be scared to live again” -Scared To Live Again
