#anyway spock was very sweet in this episode

this was not the best movie I've ever watched, but it was enjoyable! bc of the extremly long winded animation scenes (the flight around the enterprise; the whole journey through the nebula to v'ger) - I'm talking several minutes - the movie was much longer than neccessary though. at the end I said the plot was probably half of the movie and my dad said, deadpan, that it was exactly 40 minutes of plot, so basically a regular episode, which I somehow found hilarious.
I thought the jump to more budget plus the late 70s was nice on the eyes. as much as I like the nostalgia of tos, I could take this much more seriously (not that that's the most important thing about star trek).
spirk-wise there were some scenes worth noting, but not a lot. I only remember when kirk was so excited to see spock as he arrived and shouting „spock! spock!“ over and over again, which was adorable. and then spock tumbling out of the v'ger entrance in his ev suit and kirk catching and holding him reminded me a bit of tom and b'elanna in day of honor, so that's sweet as well. and of course spock telling "jim" about "this simple feeling" while holding hands (touch telepath and such…) when spock was lying in sickbay. it actually mirrored the scene in the last tos episode imo, where kirk (in dr lesters body) is lying in sickbay and talks to and mind melds with spock.
but in general I feel like they had very few conversations and no private ones at all in this one bc spock was not xo, which is a pity not only for spirk fans, as it's usually a tos staple!
but I had a longer train of thought about spock and kirks relationship after that - even though it's useless as they never become a canon romantic couple - and I don't feel like it wouldve really fit within the story. like they would never find a way to be together for long bc of their careers and living in different places and kirk being so non-monogamous and spock seemingly very monogamous. (even though - shocker - kirk had no love interest in this movie!) so my headcanon is that they have an on again-off again kind of situationship, with spock not being able to let go for good but kirk being unable to (and not wanting to) commit even though they have this deep emotional connection and love for one another. so anyway, per usual I thought about this way too long…
on a completely different note, leonard nimoy's new teeth bothered me immensely in this movie. they all have different voices bc they aged and the microphones are probably a different technology, but he suddenly got a noticeable lisp and this kind of asmr saliva mouth sound. ...can you tell I'm neurodivergent?
btw I'm planning to get into tas at some point, just for the fun of it. probably when lower decks has ended (which I hope is not soon).

HELLO! I'm sorry you've been getting idiotic anonymous people being rude about Uhura. I saw your lovely post about her and it made me happy to see that people appreciate her! She is so much more than lots of fandom pretends. Also I high-key agree that Karl Urban absolutely nailed his performance of Bones. It was so dead on!!! Zoe's Uhura was lovely too but as you say, sharper around the edges, and personally I felt her relationship with Spock was very sweet but difficult initially for me because I really get stressed when one person doesn't get the emotional needs of another. So their really gentle scenes made me SO happy when they finally happened. The warmth and gentleness shone through and won me over entirely. Zoe played sharp with just enough warmth. But I still love Nichelle's too. Uhura is great! Anyway didnt have a huge point here just happy that you also love her and call people out LOL
The main issue is the misogynoir and perhaps TERF leanings against the most recent player in the part, Celia Rose Gooding. She is non-binary and goes by she/they pronouns. She also has a short close-cropped style which beautifully frames her face. The troll is hyper-fixated on attacking that, disparaging her presentation of femininity using coded language to imply aggression or masculinity. This is extra backward because, of the three players who took on Uhura, she has the darkest skin tone, has the fullest lips and a wide nose bridge, and her hair is the only one not in a straightened or processed style (which is fine for an option BTW). All of these things together are rare aesthetics for a Black woman, and appropriate, especially for an sub-Saharan African woman's character presentation, especially in a futuristic sci-fi mainstream iconic franchise, like Star Trek and so important for young people to see as normalized femininity. I think of Lupita Nyong'o talking about the effect Alek Wek had on her...just being there as this South Sudanese supermodel, with very dark skin and short natural hair...
Tumblr media
Celia Rose is the particular target this troll has framed as their "fanhood", with thinly veiled insults and backhanded "compliments" that keep dogwhistling in their posts with various account names.
As for Zoe's Uhura, that professionalism and sharpness, when it came to her abilities and focus on her studies was an obvious intentional writing choice to stave off the very criticisms *she still got* because of the misogynoir of that era...
People were accusing her of coercing Spock into her ship assignment and even assaulting him(!).
That mess never makes sense, but hating Black women for existing or having what we are perceived as not "deserving" is sadly an old tradition (see those who make a hobby out of hating Megan Markle). And now, I see people praising the OG Uhura, Nichelle, for aspects of her character that were actually forms of limitations on her because of production bigotry...i.e. the forced interracial kiss, that people constantly cite as some forward thing w/o the context that it was forced because the implication was that no one in her crew would willingly kiss a Black person. IOW, aliens assaulting them for their entertainment was the lesser evil and more palatable to white audiences than someone choosing to love on Uhura (and I would add *especially* someone white, because even showing Black affection and love in that time was a rare thing, and her episode showing some yearning towards an old love showed no physical affection between them either). Anyway, all that to bring it right back around to ALL the Uhuras are great. And the weird microaggressions, macroaggressions, hatred, and attempts to shove them into a particular box are misogynoir; a microcosm of the kind of bullshit too many Black women go through on the regular just for existing.
Celia is a Rose and I hope she shines, gets loved on, has friends (including some Black ones) who are genuinely concerned for her well-being and actually help her when she's in need.
Tumblr media
P.S. I missed this reading way too fast before but this bit is sus IMO Zoe's Uhura was lovely too but as you say, sharper around the edges, and personally I felt her relationship with Spock was very sweet but difficult initially for me because I really get stressed when one person doesn't get the emotional needs of another. If you meant Spock not reading Uhura? Then yeah, I agree. If you mean Uhura not reading Spock?? I can't walk with you there because Spock literally almost hindered Uhura's career and got her on an exploded ship(!) because of his emotional bias and almost killed Kirk on the bridge because he was not managing his emotions well. Meanwhile Uhura read him well enough to provide some comfort after the loss of his mother.

do you have any headcanons for christine's relations with other characters?
boy, anon (gender-neutral) do i have some!!
first and silliest, i think christine is responsible for the rumor that transporter chief kyle is mean. she said it as a joke once and the rumor got a life of its own
to me, christine, unlike erica, la'an, spock and uhura, does not enter the kids jokes the fandom makes. the fandom at large loves to joke about pike and una as mom and dad (respectively) and their kids going on space adventures. while i do find that cute, i don't like including christine in that scenario. i think christine, due to her not being starfleet, and therefore not being in the chain of command, not sharing their jokes about starfleet, wouldn't really be one of the kids, which leads her to have a more grounded relationship with both pike and una.
to me, her and una, end up developing a really amazing friendship. una, who is more slow to trust and let people in, is not ready for the hurricane that is a determined christine chapel. and the two of them are together in various tense moments in season one where una has to be more open, exposed (revealing that she is an illyrian, the whole surgery scene). una, who keeps everyone at arms length, can't and... doesn't want to keep christine at a distance.
her and pike, i like to think of them having this very warm friendship that's easy to miss. they are both stubborn, adventurous people, who don't let others take care of them. i can see the two of them being able to just... nudge the other one in the right direction. christine getting him to sickbay after a mission when he is determined to go back to the bridge, pike roaming the halls and seeing christine working on an experiment and distracting her with stories about his farm until she forgets about what she is doing and realizes how tired she is.
her and erica are besties. i think we'll eventually learn they were in the war together (it explains why the two of them and m'benga have a sort of code only they know during the pilot). i think they also sleep together sometimes, no strings attached (and that eventually they get tangled up in those strings, but anyway). i like to imagine christine dragging erica on trips, going rock-climbing together, having all these wacky adventures that only they laugh about (everyone else is horrified and mouthing how did you not die).
her and la'an, look... christine getting la'an to lower her walls? making la'an laugh? is something that is very personal to me. la'an is determined, very closed-off but she is becoming more open and i think allowing christine to show her the more lighthearted things that she's missed out on would be very sweet. i also like the idea of la'an teaching christine how to fight more efficiently. christine's style is more: i'm faster than you and i'm going to take you down. while la'an really knows the technique. and i think la'an likes to feel useful, so she wouldn't just accept christine showing her what she missed out on while becoming a baddass starfleet chief of security. so showing her how to fight, would be a fair trade.
christine and uhura love to dance. that's my first thought. christine and uhura twirling around the room, laughing obnoxiously loud, singing along to the music, being the center of gravity and warmth in the room. i'm a big shipper of christine and uhura in the tos timeline, but in the snw... i see them more as sweet friends, the two of them growing together, having a good time, both becoming more connected with starfleet, enterprise and each other.
right now my thoughts about her and m'benga are shifting. babs and jess described them as a familial sort of relationship and i always had that in my mind as a sibling sort of thing. the two of them knowing way too much about each other's lives, being nosy, bantering. but right now, with the latest episode, i'm starting to think its more a family forged in fire sort of situation. they are family because no one else could ever understand what they went through. they are still very close, still banter and quip at each other, though.
her and spock are in love, thxns.

for the character ask: 1) harry stone and 2) choose any star trek character
First impression: harry anderson character unlocked brain go brrrr. goofy, funny, very deep and wise.
Impression now: HARRY STONE BRAIN GO BRRRR. he's my best friend, he's my homeboy, my rotten little soldier, my sweet cheese, etc etc. fr though like!!! thisguy! we both love the 40s vibes. we both don't get romantic cues. we both want low drama but lots of fun in everything. we're besties.
Favorite moment: no there's too many. all of them. ('mac can i have a pony ride')
Idea for a story: ok so 1) harry fully adopts leon instead of just fostering until the couple adopts him. 2) these ones could go either way, like if harry had adopted him or not. i AM very fond of leon still coming to harry for stuff after he's been adopted. so either way, take it as you like BUT ANYWAY harry teaching leon how to drive and leon coming out to harry and through that, harry realizes he is also queer. like he's a GOOD judge and obvi not homophobic, but he realizes through this wonderful young person he has a deep connection to, that he has a lot of internalized queerphobia and he also is queer! and then he tells leon and they like happy cry together and get ice-cream or something.
Unpopular opinion: uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh idk i don't think i have one
Favorite relationship: how am i supposed to chose. how. no. ok wait i forget the lady's name, but the episode where he dates a witch!!! that was cute and i think it would have been great if they had been able to work it out and he still dated a witch. like. that just seems fun, i like the potential of that.
Favorite headcanon: he's bi. he's ace. he's aro.
ANY CHARACTER FROM STAR TREK: HHHH Jim lol
First impression: oh gender?
Impression now: ok i just rewatched the 2009 reboot and ok chris pine bi awakening GOODNIGHT. THAT SAID. I adore this compassionate, loving, slut for everything but like in a kind, nuturing, loving way, slutty man. he (especially tos jim) is actually such a good masculine role model!!! i hate the toxic masculine rep Jim Kirk has in society bc it is so far from the truth!!! I hate the patriarchy. Jim Kirk hates the patriarchy. fuck. anyway i wanna be like him. him good.
Favorite moment: every time he rips his shirt, i fucking. god. again, role model, bi awakening, it's also funny. i know there's some like Moments tm but i need to get my grubby little gay hands on a streaming service, pirate service, dvd, SMTH to rewatch.
Idea for a story: ummmmm the doctor from dw takes me on an adventure and we land on the enterprise and jim kirk and i fall in love *tucks hair behind my ear in cringe* *peace sign* jk that would be fun but tbh i want a cute story about uhura teaching kirk some kind of specific dance before he takes spock on a date on a planet. uhura is also teaching spock the same dance. it's specifically from that planet and both are trying to impress each other but neither of them are very good at the dance so when they're actually on the date they keep tripping over each other until spock falls on top of kirk and spock pulls some romantic bullshit like 'clearly neither of us are accustomed to this culture but...' [ he looks at jim's lips, then back to his eyes, jim's heart is beating out of his chest. they're so close that spock CAN in fact feel it] 'i am familiar with... earth customs' AND BOOM SPOCK KISSES JIM. IT'S TENDER AND SOFT AND FULL OF LOVE AND JIM IS SO OVERWHELMED AND GETS SO LIGHTHEADED THAT HE ACTUALLY FAINTS BC HE'S A FUCKING NERD AND SPOCK PANICKS AND BONES IS LIKE 'oh my god u fucking dumb asses' and jim explains to spock that he fainted bc he was so overwhelmed and he loves spock so much more than anything or anyone and it meant so much that spock feels the same way sakjdhdguahslifdkuyfjshdkusgfsjkhfsljdhf;kausgldf
Unpopular opinion: he's not a womanizer, but that's not too unpopular here on tumblr
Favorite relationship: girl help there's TOO MANY! i feel like bones and spock are too easy an answer, so like. my favorite non-mcspirk relationship is probably with scotty? like they are Besties and i love to see it.
Favorite headcanon: i don't remember any i've seen but personally, I headcanon that he likes dirt cups. like the cups of pudding, crushed up cookies, and gummy worms.

DS9 2x10 Sanctuary thoughts (rewatching, so possible future spoilers)
I love Kira and Sisko's relationship, they work so good off each other
I always thought this episode would come back to bite them in the butt later on in the series... I guess not
Kira is so uncomfortable with being in charge here, bless her, but she's doing her damned best
Julian's outrage: "Are all your leaders women?" "Yes." "All of them?" "You heard her, Julian."
I do kind of like clumsy matriarchal societies, even if I don't agree with that set-up any more than I agree with the patriarchy
Yay for polyamory, but why does that have to be weird to Kira? I guess in a matriarchy it's more likely polyandry anyway...
Bonding over horrible clothing, I get that
I love Jake and Nog's friendship <3 But, yet again, JAKE'S SO YOUNG. Imean seriously, dabo girl what? (He is sweet tho)
Huh, that sure looks like Spock on the crime list...
Tumblr media
I think I forget how much I like Quark, his whole routine as he picked up Nog was hilarious. Also, how Quark later broke up the fight with a snarl, and Nog giving a little snarl once he's safely behind his uncle :3 You don't see their relationship much but it is cute here
I really do get the Bajorans' arguments, it does suck, but "Do you really think we could stand by and do nothing?" is pretty understandable. I do think their genuinely sorry not to be able to just help.
Sisko bringing it back to Draylon Two as often as possible XD
Oh, bless Jake for trying to talk to the Skrreean boy.
Oh my goodness, this woman is so entitled. I understand where she's coming from and that she thinks they could help Bajor, but the Bajorans don't have to accept the risk! Especially as there is another planet you can settle on that will probably be easier to farm on - it's not like they're tossing you out for nothing, and I'm fairly certain the Bajoran answer would have been different if there really were no other options. But there is a Very Good Option there!
I really don't like how cold she is towards Kira, she has no sense of perspective really. That's what she thinks friends are?
I realllly don't get what the Skrreean boy's problem was SO MUCH that he wanted to go and fight Bajor. I mean he seemed to have a mighty bad attitude as soon as he got on the station... I guess massive lifetime trauma? And transferring his hatred for their former oppressors onto the Bajorans?
I hope she sees just how HARD the crew are trying to rescue her boy and doesn't blame them. They don't want this!
Another episode without a clear-cut "good" ending, but I did like it, even if it's sad how much bad blood there was by the end of the episode for no good reason.

For the weirdly specific and unrelated asks to know someone well: 5, 11, 13
ouhhhhh heyyyyyy 💕💕 sorry I had this sitting around for so long, my phone notifs are weird.
okay so
5. my favorite form of potato?
I'm unsure if this pertains to sweet vs normal potato; in that case I'm team normal potato. If it's a question of how they're made, I do love my grandma's potato mash with a bit of butter and milk 🥰🥰 close tie with roasted potatoes with italian spices and a sprinkle of smoked ham.
11. Anything from your childhood you've held onto?
A lot, actually, I unfortunately a very sentimental person and most of my childhood is connected to my grandma which I cherish a lot. Narrowing it down, I'd say I still have stuffed animals in my room, I have my grandpa's circle compass and his suspenders and I have my grandma's glasses that I use as backup glasses!
13. First thing you're doing in a purge?
Fun fact: did you know that The Purge Franchise was inspire by TOS episode "Return of the Acherons"? I didn't either. Hint: it's the episode with Spock in the nun outfit.
Anyway, it's a tie between rallying all my friends and give certain people I know a good beating (People who really, truly deserve it) and robbing the next bank. For... retirement reasons.

Just finished watching the TOS episode Obsession. I’m not sure if the writers of Star Trek 2009 watched all (or any) of the TOS episodes but there’s a lot in this episode that seems to be referenced in 2009.
Sorry in advance for my rambling idk if any of this makes sense.
The plot is Moby Dick-esq, Kirk is obsessed with hunting a creature that he encountered in the past. The solution is what stands out, Spock suggests a matter/anti-matter reaction that will explode, killing the creature and ripping a hole in the planets atmosphere. I think he even says they only need one drop.
This of course is what kicks off the plot to 2009. Spock’s attempt to use some kind of anti-matter to create a black hole to save Romulus. Now that I’ve rewatched this episode it’s nice to think he got the idea here…even tho it leads to him being ripped out of his own timeline and the destruction of Kelvin!Vulcan.
Also Jim has extreme guilt over “letting” 200 of his crew die in the previous encounter, even though there was nothing he could have done. AOS Kirk seems to be characterized by a deep sense of guilt over things he had no control of, so it’s nice to see that carry through. (Cute but irrelevant to my point moment: Spock tries to logically convince Kirk that there is nothing to be guilty about. Kirk says stop trying to therapy me go do it to someone else, so Spock does, very sweet).
The previous encounter happened when Kirk was a crewman on the Farragut. His captain also died in the incident, and he speaks about how important that captain was to him. I feel like this compares to Pike and Kirk’s relationship in AOS.
And finally the idea of fathers and sons and sons avenging their fathers. A new security officer on the Enterprise happens to be the captain of the Farragut’s son. How it relates to AOS is Kelvin!Kirk’s whole motivation is guilt, the need to prove that he can be good, and vengeance for the death of his father by the main villain. In the TOS episode, Kirk is motivated by guilt and vengeance and the son is motivated by the need to prove himself. It’s unclear if the son knows that this is the same creature that kills his dad.
Anyway…good episode! Not talked about/fic’d about often but has some great moments. I wish they had tried harder to communicate with the creature tho. A very Spones episode too.

Ok so my other post vanished for some reason so I’m just going to post the abridged version. South Park is filled with Star Trek references and Going Native was a parody of Amok Time, an episode of Star Trek that is famous for inspiring the creation of slash fandom. In it, Spock becomes uncharacteristically aggressive and must return to his birthplace to take part in a ceremony and marry his childhood fiancé, but he also brings Kirk to the ceremony which results in a surprising twist. Butters is obviously too young for marriage but the tradition of getting married in Hawaii is still mentioned and shown.
Tumblr media
And in the end Butters’ ceremony has some wedding vibes, even getting matching necklaces with Kenny!
Tumblr media
Anyway I just think that Bunny being paralleled with the granddaddies of slash is very sweet and charming.

Alright, here is the next part of my scene breakdown for the TOS episode, "This Side of Paradise."
In the previous post, we have one awkward introductory meeting scene where at one point almost no one is looking at the same person and Captain Kirk whose facial expression directed at Leila Kalomi goes from :) to >:( in under 30 seconds. During this, it should be noted that Leila had done nothing except stare at Spock prettily. It should also be pointed out that Spock does not react as he typically would when addressed, with him remaining silent and staring right back at Leila rather intently that Kirk had to be the one to break the moment.
We're not gonna focus on whatever meaning Spock and Leila's interactions have in these posts primarily because, to me, Spock's character arc here is more focused on identity and realizations borne from his experience rather than anything romantic even if it was framed that way (maybe for another post).
Kirk, on the other hand, whether he himself is aware or not, acts and reacts in ways that highlight how different he behaves in situations involving Spock from anyone else. This is evident in the next few scenes.
The landing team proceeds with their inspection of the settlement. Spock gets exposed to the spores and abandons his duties to run off with Leila. Kirk contacts Spock when he realizes that he hasn't heard from him in a while.
During the call, Spock ignores Kirk and makes it clear to him that he's kinda being a bother. While Spock is not exactly the very model of following orders and procedure, he is never seen dismissive of Kirk. It should have been quite obvious, not just to the audience, that he isn't acting like himself. Bones even points this out right after. So one would expect Kirk to ask him if he was ok or something but no. He instead gets mad and snaps at Spock.
Tumblr media
It was so uncharacteristic that even Bones looked more shocked at him than at Spock. To be clear, it's not him getting mad that's odd. It's him getting mad without acknowledging that anything was strange at all. That it's Bones who has to bring it up because he doesn't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is even stranger because of what he says next in response to Spock's strange behavior being pointed out, "I thought you said you might like him if he mellowed a little." Which implies the following: he and Bones have conversations about Spock being a hardass, and he considers the weird behavior as Spock "mellowing a little" -- uncharacteristic but not necessarily unnatural.
But why would he think that when it's clear that Spock was not acting normally? Does he suspect there's a natural reason why Spock would "mellow a little"?
That it would take Bones suggesting that Spock might be in trouble before he gets contemplative and maybe suspicious about it? Is it because he suspects they were involved romantically and he knows that romantic involvement could drive a person to do things that they don't normally do? Does he feel that whatever suspicions he has about Leila and Spock now had weight? Why does this matter? Does it matter?
Tumblr media
He accepts the suggestion that there might be trouble. He then passes on the responsibility for the landing party detail to Bones and goes off to find Spock.
Then we have this scene.... I can't emphasize enough how much I'm obsessed about this. You'll need to hear the audio to truly appreciate it. Since I can't get enough of it anyway, let's do a break down.
Tumblr media
Kirk finds Spock's communicator on the ground, abandoned. Before he can make assumptions or look around, Sulu points towards the distance and we hear Spock's laughter. This should be the first time any of them is hearing Spock laugh out loud at least not in any strange circumstance they are aware of.
We see from afar, as the jovial music plays, what appears to be Spock hanging from a tree along with Leila who is standing nearby.
We cut back to the search party. Sulu and the blue shirt look sort of amazed. Kirk's face is harder to describe. He takes a couple of steps forward as they all try to make sense of what they're seeing.
Tumblr media
We cut back to Spock and Leila, zoomed in, laughing, being sweet, holding hands, all smiles and playfulness.
Tumblr media
Kirk looks at a lost--that's the closest description I have without assuming anything. His hold on the communicator weakens that the lid closes off. He croaks out Spock's name. Clears his throat. Mentions Spock's name again but formally and with more force.
Tumblr media
He is too far though so he couldn't have done that to grab Spock's attention. It was either to regain his composure in front his subordinates or to fortify himself or maybe both.
The way this scene was pieced together... I don't know what the expected take away was. If not Kirk's heart breaking...
This bit is purely supposition on my part but it does seem a bit harder to come up with other reasons without being more contrived. It would seem as though Kirk does believe that Spock is frolicking by choice and he gets angry jealous that unlike the other instances in previous episodes where Spock acts questionably, he gets immediately upset rather than question things.
Still have several scenes to go. Maybe won't be as long as this one if people are still interested and I didn't end up boring you guys. :)

Top 15 Star Trek TOS Episodes (Part One)
I debated on doing this until I did the second watchthrough/reviews... but heck with it. I don’t see it changing too terribly much after and I thought it would be fun. It’s been a fun ride with TOS and I didn’t expect to love it, but here we are. It ain’t a perfect show, but a good one with good characters, strong themes, and just the right amount of intrigue and silliness. I had a blast watching it, but let’s face it, some episodes are better than others. Some are goofy but enjoyable, some... well, they tried. Everyone’s got what they like and dislike, and these are the ones that I liked best. All is only my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. So to finally cap off this watchthrough before I start the second one and also plunge into TNG, here is the first half of my favorite TOS episodes~
#15. Bread and Circuses
Tumblr media
I didn’t realize this until I saw someone else point it out... but this is essentially Star Trek’s version of The Hunger Games, only combined with Roman gladiators. We have our main trio get captured by the government whom have already caused another Starfleet captain to succumb and he sentenced his entire crew to death. Thus we have Kirkg ivent he option of either doing the same, or he can remain in defiance and risk Spock and McCoy’s lives. Either way, he loses. It’s a good episode, showing Kirk given one of the most sadistic choices that you can give him... and yet he doesn’t break. Oh he gets plenty of hardship. He makes the choice to keep the crew form beaming down, which morally is te best decision. After all, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Kirk, unlike Captain Merik, chooses to preserve his cew’s safety as a captain should. Whatever happens to him makes no difference... but because Spock and McCoy are with him, him making that chocie means that they suffer theconsequences as they are not only thrust into gladitorial combat for their lives, bt Kirk is forced to watch and can do nothing. He tries to when Bones is down, but restrained form doing so. But even then he doesn’t back down or even consider it. Merik may have thrown away his whole crew, but like Hell Kirk is going to and concerning the other two, he accepts execution after Spock breaks the rules to save Bones, emphasizing the point more. It;s a really god episode to show just how much Kirk truly follows that responsibility.
We also have some great Spock/McCoy content here as the episode does put their relationship int he spotlight a bit. Their relationship is the most interesting to me so this was a great one. They bicker pretty much all episode with even the other guy they got caught with asking if they’re enemies, which Kirk just replies that even those tow don’t know. But I think if there’s any doubt that they don’t care about each other, this one promptly shuts it up. Spock, despite knowing that he can’t, defends McCoy and saves his life. This leads tot he excellent scene int he cells where Spock is trying to figure a way out, despite fully well knowing that he can’t break through the bars. Logically it would be pointless to continue fruitless efforts, but he tries to anyways. When McCoy tries to thank him for saving him, with Spock both hiding behind his usual logical shell while still focusing on the futile escape effort. Thus we get McCoy confronting him about being afraid of living and not knowing how to handle even one warm feeling. It’s a really good scene performed excellently by Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley and is just a really good insight into their relationship. I’ll keep from going into any huge detail for if that review project makes it this far, but still an excellently performed scene, especially when it caps off with McCoy simply saying that he’s worried about Jim too, the one thing that the two CAN agree on without doubt.
This is at fifteen mainly because of a few small factors. I only know a few things about Roman history so anything about it went over my head and the ending also baffled me likely due to that. We also have it implied that Kirk did... it with a slave girl. Mind you the slave girl went to him and again it’s implied. But that still makes me feel... very uncomfortable once the girl did it under orders, and therefore not fully without consent. I’m gonna have to watch it again when I dot he more in-depth analysis, but... yeah. The ending also leaves without a real resolution to the planet, remaining as they are until they eventually fall just like the actual Rome did. I guess that was the intention, but... just kinda sucks that nothing truly got accomplished. Still from a character standpoint, it was a really good one for the Triumvirate and a great watch.
#14. For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky
Tumblr media
So for those who have been following me since I began this venture, you know that McCoy is my absolute favorite character. So when we got to a McCoy-centric episode, I was excited! And overall, it was a good one. Not one of the best, but perfectly fine. We have McCoy diagnosed with a terminal illness and given a year to live. When he and the other two transport onto a meteor-esque spaceship, they encounter the priestess Natira and her people headed for essentially a promised land witht he ship controleld by The Oracle. As Kirk and Spock try to learn more, McCoy is left with Natira who has grown smittenw ith hima dn wishes for him to remain as her mate. Sadly, I feel like this pisode wasted a lot of potential. Bones, the Chief Medical Officer who is always taking care of everyone else, is now the sick one and has only a eya rleft, if event hat. But the only real signs of this is he’s a little weaker than normal, which tbf it was just diagnoses so he may not have the most severe symptoms bu it also kidna makes the fact feel... less urgent. Using that time to set up himw ith Natira also felt wasted since we have the potential of a very emotional story where McCoy sis truggling with his lfie and the others have to come to terms that e’s going to die and likely struggle to find some way, any way to save him... and we spend it with a Girl of the Week who we’ll never see again and on a romance that while it is kinda sweet, ultimately leaves zero impact. It just feels like there was so much wasted potential and the emotional weight that you DO get... it feels less strong if you don’t know McCoy’s history. We know it now cause of supplementary material and such, butt he audiece of the 60’s certainly didn’t, hence why this is fourteen on the list.
That being said, the episode is still good. What makes up for the lack of impact about McCoy’s status and lack of history is DeForest Kelley. The man put his all into this episode (he did in every episode, but especially here when he gets ot be center stage), expressing McCoy’s sadness and loneliness as he talks to Natira perfectly. You can feel that loneliness, that longingness for what Natira’s offering him, that need to just have... some kind of happiness and intimacy that he was just never able to truly have, especially now. He just feels so... sad and vulnerable. Even though we’ve seen him interact romantically with women before, he comes off as so nervous and uncertain about what he’s doing. Like it’s been so long since he’s been intimate with anyone that he is at an utter loss on what to do with it. Natira essentially takes the lead and is even perfectly fine with caring for him in the limited time that he has left. There is someone willing to be with him and to love him for the first time in who knows how long and willing to continue to do so despite him dying... is it any shock that he chose to remain? And even then he did so in part to save Kirka and Spock from death when they got caught... and even then when he found out how to get the ship on it’s actual course and out oft he way of danger, he called them immediately for help. Yeah he almost got his brain fried for it which tbf he didn’t know would happen, but it still shows how selfless he really is, still placing others well-being before his own. As a good doctor would and should.
We also have Kirk and Spock’s reactions to the news. Kirk only knows because Chapel pretty much forced Bones to tell him and the man looks like a kicked puppy when told. He even tells Bones that he doesn’t have to go on the mission with them when normally he’s all gung-ho about dragging him along, only allowing it because this time Bones actually wants to go. Spock finds out after they all get zapped with Bones taking longer to wake up/being briefly unrsponsive, where Kirk admits it to him. Spock is noticibly concerned, emphasized when he holds onto McCoy’s arm for a good 30 seconds just to help the man sit up. McCoy can already tell that he knows before Kirk say it...a dn chooses to just let it be and get back to the matter at hand. Then there’s McCoy after he made his decision and faces the two for as far as he knew the final time. Kirk argues with him and is all but begging him to come back since otherwise he’s gonna die, which McCoy refuses since...well, he’s gonna either die from collision or being shot down, or he dies of xenopolycythemia. Either way he’s on borrowed time, so why not at least let him live it hacving a shot at happiness? Kirk is upset. Spock is as upset as a Vulcan will express. McCoy’s not happy about it, but firm in his decision... so firm it kinda makes the end where he does decide to go back kind of a juxtaposition, but I ain’t complaining either. The cure is also too convenient, but again not complaining. It doens’t seem like that much of an episode at first glance, but once you sit down and reallye xamine it even if you know nothign about McCoy’s backstory or peornsal life, it relaly leaves an impact. Again, a testemant to Kelley’ performance. As such even wit it’s issues and waste of potential, I adore it~!
#13. Obsession
Tumblr media
I don’t see this one talked about much, but I found this one... well I hate to say the word but fascinating. What can I say? I’m a sucker for character studies, and BOY do we have a good one with Kirk here. In this episode we have a mysterious gas creature thing killing the crew and eventually get into The Enteprrise. Kirk reacts badly to it. Why? Well his crew dying of course, but the big reason is because he’s dealt with this creature before when he was a lieutenant where due to hesitaitng for a brief moment, mass casualties including his commanding officer were killed. So now with this creature’s pesence, Kirk is ont he hunt to take it down once and for all. But as the title indicates, he’s leaning towards becoming obsessed with it. We se Kirk acitng more angry and reckless than usual, especially when he continues to choose this over getting out of the space to diver some vaccines whent heya re desperately needed... yeah we’ll try to ignore how uncomfortable that is int he current times for now. The on of his former CO is also part of the Enterprise crew, and Kirk is spreading that obsession onto him, even punishing him for hesitating as he had when you’d expect him to be more sympathetic. It’s an episode that really unsettles you because Kirk isn’t acting like Kirk. Even in Consciousness of the King when dealing with the man who... you know, caused a genocide that Kirk was a victim of, he mostly held it together.
It’s these kinds of episodes that always fascinate me. What happens when we put this character into a situaitont hat completeley unnerves them? How would they react? How would it affect their usually rational actions? What would drive them to behave in such a way? How do those around them react? Kirk is very much dealing with a trauma and while eh is able to convince Spock and McCoy that e IS sound of mind and fit for duty, it doesn’t change that he’s allowing the trauma and guilt to morph into a dangeorus obsessiont hat is risking numerous lives. Not to mention afecting a young man who is in a similar position to him and also lost a loved one, yet the one that you’d expect to have Kirk’s sympahty is the one he’s treaitng harshly because of what he himself went through. Yes Kirk realizes it at the end and both corrects his mistakes and takes outt he monster, and it was good to see that he was able to pull himself back. But it was still just so interesitng to explore Kirk in this kind of position.
Spock and McCoy were also on point with both knowing that Jim isn’t acting right and ultimateley confornting him. The whole scene where McCoy gives Kirk essentially apsycological analysis, bringing Spock in once Kirk gets partiulalry heated, and them both laying down the line and holding firm until Kirk properly assures themt hat he is fit for duty was such a great scene. So was Spock actually seekign Bones as he knows that he can better understand Kirk’s emotional issues and him trying to comfort Garrovic was nice... it failed but he was stillt rying to do the right thing when Jim couldn’t. It’just one of those episodes that a character analyist like me eats up. As far as flaws go, notign comes to mind, but that might change on rewatch. I had just had others I liked better that placed it here, but it was very much an episode that got my attention.
#12. Operation: Annihilate
Tumblr media
I still remember the suspense that this episode had me in. So we have the crew arrive at a colony that is uner attack by these parasites that are infecting thema nd leading them to painful deaths. Its already bad when Kirk finds his brother dead and his sister-in-law dies in utter agony, leaivng his young nephew’s fate uncertain. But it gets worse when Spockg ets infected and while he does his best, he’s having a difficult time managing the pain. It shows too in not only the scene where he pretty much goes balistic, but every scene after where he’s moslty under control, you can see the pain in his body lamnguage, tone, and eyes. Nimoy did an excelelnt job at keeping up that usual Spock demeanor, but converyign everything through body language alone. The team has to work to find a way to get rid of these parasites before it kills anyone else and exterminate them fromt he colony.
IMO, this was when iot felt like the writers realized what they had with the Triumvarite. At that point it was mainly abotu Kirka dn Spock and hwile Bones got it better than a few of the others, he still didn’t feel... quite there yet. I mean Kelley wans’t evne including int he opening credits until the next season. Here though we have all three with something major going on that’s important. Kirk is trying to figure out how to deal witht he situaiton which has cost him two fmaily members and may cost him his kid nephew. Spock is n pain due tot he parasite but still trying to perform his duties,e ven beaming down to get one of the parasites sicne as he’s already infected, he’s not at risk. McCoy is tryign to figure out how to get rid of the things and is the one having to keep both Spock and Peter alive. These all intersect together and the three just have this great chemistry. Their dynamic isvery mucht he thignt hat I loved most whenw atching the series, and this is when it felt like it clicked into place. The climax isalso heart-breaking. They figure out that bright lightcan kill the parasites, but McCoy is worried about what that intensity can do to Spock. He’s reluctant, but both Kirk and Spock push him to do it and while it’s successful in killing the parasite, it elaves Spock blind. Then Bones finds out that he didn’t need to turn it up that high and would have know had he just waited a few moments. While Spcok accepts it as a necessary loss, Kirk can barley hold back his fury... thoguh I DON’T like how the blame all get put on Boens when Kirk made him do it. Evenw hen Kirk tells Bones later that it wasn’t his fault, just by Bones’ face you can tell that he fully blmes himself.
That does bringmy big criticism though that lande dit at twelve. The ending is... nto good. I mean yay the succeed, but it felt like this was meant to be a two-parter, they couldn’t get the seocnd part, and had to make a hasty resolution to clear up the plot quickly. Not only is Peter’s face never mentioned or do we see Kirk’s reactionw hether good or bad, but Spock... is fine. He had a second eyelid that NEVER comes up again and he had just forgottena bout it. I now that TOS wans’t a serialized show but it not only felt like a waste of some potential story and character development for all three of our boys, but like haivng Spock blindd at all and sending McCoy down that guilt trip was utterly unecessary to begin with because it all happened int he last five minutes. I’mg lad that Spock was okay, and the end where Bones asks Kirk to not tell Spockw hat he said about him being the best First Offficer int he fleet, which Spock ehars and thanks him for half-enuinely, half-jokignly, again it feels like it was unecessary with how lat eit happened and how little impact it ultimateley had. Because of that, it landed here. But it’s still an enjoyable episode that again, felt like when the Triumvirate truly clicked into place and gave us even more good material after,
#11. The Naked Time
Tumblr media
When I got to this episode, I had to remember how I quit as a teenager right before this and proceeded to yell ‘why didn’t you just go ONE more episode you idiot?!” to my past self. I really enjoyed this episode mainly for the concept. A virus that erases one inhibitions and self-control. Some of them are wa ky like Sulu with the fencing sword, which was also the most entertaining part of the episode. But it’s still interesting as we see these characters just give into whatever they’re desiring without any sort of thought and it erupts into chaos. It WAS a tad uncomfortable cause... you know, we’re watching a spreading virus that came about cause someone failed to follow proper safety guidelines while we’re living in a pandemic. But that’s not the episode’s fault.
It especially got interesting when Spock got it. This is the fourth episodes aired (I think it’s later in production order but I watched the order Netflix gave me) but even then we saw that Spock was a logical, very in-control character. We din’t know all the details anout him yet or that much about Vulcans, but we’d seen enough to get the general gist of the character. Then due to the cirus, those mental barriers begin to crumble rapidly. The scene where he is alone, trying to force himself to gain control of his emotions and ultimately failing as he breaks down... damn that was an excellent scene. Apparently it was thought of on the spot by Leonard Nimoy and he only had time for one take. Boy did he nail it. That was the moment I became invested in Spock as a character and in his and Kirk’s relationship as Kirk tries to snap him out of it, even risking getting infected himself because he needs Spock.  I think that there are episodes that I enjoy more and the weird time travel ending made the ending really weird. Hence why this just barely missed the Top 10. But back when the show mainly gripped me for it’s science fiction concepts, this was a really good episode. It was the first one I went and watched twice before moving to the next one. I’m just so interested in the idea of losing your self-control and how you and others around you deal with it. Maybe it’s the analyst in me talking, but damn those mental concepts always get to me! A fun watch that was essentially the episode that convinced me that yes, this show is good and this time I wasn’t backing out.
#10. Mirror, Mirror
Tumblr media
Top 10 now! Here we go! So.. mirror alternate reality. We’ve seen this a billion times in just about every media ever. IDK how common it was when Star Trek did it, but I always love this kind of concept snd seeing how a character would act if things had gone even slightly different. The Mirror Verse is admittedly a little too cartoonishly evil, but does come across as a fascist dictatorship, so I can’t really complain. Anyways, Kirk, McCoy, Scotty, and Uhura and up there and now have to figure out how to get home without anyone catching on that they’re not their counterparts. One thing I love is that it gives Scotty and Uhura some much needed focus and they are both awesome with Scotty being his usual miracle worker self and Uhura kicking ass as she gets info and outright threatens Sulu when he tries to come on to her. God I love that woman~
The Mirror Crew are essentially one-dimensional monsters with the exception or Mirror Spock. He’s still the logical being that we know him as, but much colder and ruthless as well. Yet he still is the closest to matching his usual self and has at least some level of decency compared to everyone else. It’s probably why Kirk was so convinced that he could cause a turn around at the end. He’s not good, but he’s still more good than anyone else on that ship. Yeah the guy who forcibly mind melded McCoy without consent (and how much we judge that I’ve seen varied but I consider it a horrible invasion of privacy that they shouldn’t have brushed off) is still FAR better than anyone else if that indicates how bad this universe is. Seeing his and Kirk’s interactions was super interesitng as clealry Mirror Spock caught on quickly that something was up, but chose to prolong it until near the end. It’s interesitng to observe. I also just love seeing our four heroes handling the situation. They all act effectivlynd manage to keep up the masqurade very well with only Spock and Marlena figuring it out. It’s one of the more diverse ensembles and I wish they had done more diverse dynamics than here, but it was great to see.
I think my only issues aside form McCoy’s potential trauma being glossed over (though I do love how he insisted on saving Mirror Spock and risk not making it home cause damn it, he’s a doctor no matter what) is how we don’t get to see the four’s mirror selves aside form once, where only Kirk gets a characterization as a cartoonishly violent brute. We hear a few things about them like Mirror McCoy’s sickbay essentially being a torture zone, but that’s it. I guess it was due to only having an hour, but I wish we had gotten to see how Spock’s end of things and how he interacts with them aside form Kirk, which that didn’t amount to much anyways. Ah well, fanon has covered both of these pretty extensively from what I can tell, so I shall settle on that. Still it was an enjoyable episode. I’ve seen better Evil Universe stories (nothing’s gonna beat the Justice Lords from Justice League for me tbf), but still a good one with a good ensemble, good character moments, and a unique threatening situation for our heroes to navigate through.
#9. Amok Time
Tumblr media
AKA, the episode that more or less created the Slash Genre as we know it. But we’ll touch ont hat later. For now, one thing that I was really hoping for when I got to Season 2 was learning more about Vulcans and their culture. We knew a few things by then, like certain physiological differences between Vulcans and Humans and of course their logical philosophy. But S2 explored them and their culture more, and this was a big one. Spock is acting uncharacteristically agressive and refuses to explain why. Eventually he reveals that he is undergoign Pon Farr, aka going into heat. Unless he goes to Vulcan and does... ugh... mating and soon, he will die. IDK how they got away with this on a 60’s show, but I ain’t complaining. It does that exploration into Vulcans that I was hoping for. Hell we grt to finally see Vulcan... well a section of it but we still got to see it for the first time! It was interesitng to learn about Pon Farr and the rituals that go into it like how maitng works (weird that the logical Vulcan species has arranged marriages, but whatever) and seeing more Vulcans outside of Spock. It’s the kind of world building that does my heart good~
It had a lot of really good moments. Spock explaining everything to Kirk while trying to keep himself from killing him. Chekov being uttelry done with everything as they keephanging course to and from. Ulcan. Spock inviting not only Kirk to the ‘wedding’, but also McCoy, showing that despite their arguments he undoubtedly considers him a close friend. Hell McCoy imo is the true hero of the episode for being the one to catch that something was worng with Spock and his in-genius plan to fake Kirk’s death to keep his two idiot best friends from killing each other without pissing off any Vulcans. Seriosuly, the man needs all the appreciation in existence. And of course, we have the kal-if-fee where T’Pring (great antagonist BTW, will explore her when ai do an a tual review) forces Kirk against Spock. What ensued, while I fully believ eunintentional, forever generated a whole wave of slash and outright invented the term. While I’m not even close to as into Spirk as others, there is no denying how impactful the ship was to fandom culture and to the LGBT+ community. It is a legavy that I hold respect for since it really gave people like myself creativity and enpowerment for over 50 years, and is still generaitng works even now. That is something to respect.
As for it’s placement... the ending was a litle weird. It felt like they didn’t know how to have Spock cured without him either killing someone or doing hanky panky, so he just... gets over it agter thinking that he killed Kirk. It is a good moment, especially his reaction when he sees that Kirk is alive. That was a very justified emotional response that made me smile... and laugh when he tried to deny it haha. ButI find it hard ot buy that a biological funciton like that just... went away. But ah well. It was still an ejoyable episode with some great Vulcan content, McCoy being an underrated badass, and the moments that slash shippers will forever be grateful for. But speaking of slash...
#8. All Our Yesterdays
Tumblr media
Sorry Amok Time, but THIS is the slashiest episode in the whole show. While I didn’t get into Spirk much, I got head over heels for Spones. IDK what it was but their dynamic has always been enjoyable and it just... really drew me in. Most of my favorite moments were between this two like the moment in Bread and Circuses and more I’ll go into later, This is essentially The Spones Episode despite what actually happens. Our heroes are to clear a planet that’s sun is about to go supernova, only to find it already gone. Kirk ends up going through a portal when he hears cries for help and when Spock and McCoy go agter him, they end up in an arctic-like area. They were all sent to different points of th eplanet’s past, Kirk in some old timey point and Spock and McCoy even earlier. Now they have to figure out how to get back and survive their situaitons. Kirk’s plot has nothing special tbh and with a few adjustments could have been written out entirely, hence why this is at 8. But Spock and McCoy? Ho boy, their scenes MAKE this episode.
Spock and McCoy try to survive the harsh conditions, the latter almost dying of severe frostbite. He outright tells Spock to abandon him with Spock being VERY adament that that’s not happening. They’re rescued by a woman named Zarabeth and Spock proceeds to spend most of the episode interacting with her while tending to McCoy. Which he gets VERY touchy feely with the latter. Like... a lot more than normal, which tvh the whole seaosm felt that way between those two if what I said about The World is Hollow... counts for anything. Now he DOES end up ‘falling’ for Zarabeth, but there’s a reason for that. Spock is regressing to how his ancestors acted at the time, which was like ‘barbarians’. When amcCoy starts to realize that something’s wrong, it leads to two very intense but really well done scenes with McCoy using logic against Spock to make him realize that he’s lost himself. And while Spock pretty much gave up greitng home due to all of this, McCoy refuses with or without him, even outright going back into the storm to find the portal because damn it, he wants his life back. Then when we find out that Spock and McCoy HAVE to go back together or not at all, it doesn’t take Spock even a second to decide to leave Zarabeth behind. It’s sad because Zarabeth will die a cold, lonely death and she cdoesn’t deserve that at all, so it’s bittersweet. But man next to the katra thing int he films, IDT it gets more symbolic than that.
Like I said, Kirk’s scenes in the past are the only real issue I have since aside form explaining a few things about he situation, feel like they’re just there so that Kirk can still be in the episode prominently. I had some problems with Spock’s OOC behavior, but that got an explanation and has some credibility with how Vulcans are psychically linked. Would explain why McCoy and Zarabeth never seemed to regress. But it was still a good episode with great Spock and McCoy scenes, we FINALLY git a snow environment after forever (and a time travel plot to boot), and a bittersweet but nice ending. Seriously when Spock and McCoy make it back safely and Kirk just touches them on their shoulders in relief is such a nice moment. God I love those three~! Season Three wasn’t a strong season but it still had it’s standouts, and this was very much one of them for me. But I AM biased cause Spones, so take that for what it’s worth!
And that’s enough for now. The last seven will be in another post. Thank you for reading everyone~!

my wife @got2ghost tagged me to talk about my 10 favorite ships and why!
yall know i LOVE to talk so lessgo!!!!
KIRK/SPOCK - Star Trek: I know this is a very unpopular opinion with some of my mutuals (I apologize Phoenix and Amy) but as someone who grew up watching TOS with my grandma and next gen with my parents, AOS, which came out when I was 13, was MY Star Trek. It was cool and sleek and pine/quinto were hot and at 13 years old I was like This Is Mine Now and have loved it ever since even though I fully recognize what makes it hard to love for classic trekkies! THAT BEING SAID, the reason i love spirk so much (besides the TOS version and the history and love they have) is because AOS spirk was the first pairing that i ever read fic for that was BEAUTIFUL and MOVING and GUT WRENCHING! this was the pairing that made me realize that fic could even be good! that it could not only be good but be AMAZING! even though the AOS movies fumble the spirk bag over and over and over, the things that fic writers have done with these characters and the stories they’ve created around the differences in AOS made a huge impact on me as a young teen and they still have a huge space in my heart!!!!!!!
Sterek- Teen Wolf: there is absolutely a reason that this pairing got so popular so fast and it’s because their dynamic is genuinely so GOOD and funny and there’s so much to work with!!!! Jeff Davis If Not For The Laws Of This Land I Would Have Slaughtered you, etc, etc, BUT regardless of what was done to them in canon, shipping sterek in 2012-2014 was the most fun ive had online in my entire life and i’ll love sterek forever! on this i swear!!!!!! no homo deserves a nobel peace prize!!!!!!!!!
Ruth/Idgie - Fried Green Tomatoes: i think it was phoenix who reblogged something recently about how so much historical gay rep is tragic and sad and doesn’t focus on the reality that gay people have always existed and not every single one of them lived tragic and sad lives. THAT’S WHAT MAKES RUTH/IDGIE SO IMPORTANT TO ME!!!! the importance of historical gay love that was happy! and accepted by their community! and beautiful! and romantic! they fall in love and start a business and raise a child and live in a happy home together! in 1930s alabama! their dynamic in both the book and the movie is unbelievably sweet and hot and i want to cry just thinking about the TENDER LOVE AND CARE!!!!!!!!!!!
Mulder/Scully - The X Files: they’re my parents and i love them! the skeptic/believer dynamic at it’s absolute fucking best! you want to talk about blueprints? mulder/scully is the fucking blueprint. “scully, is this demonstration of boyish agility turning you on?”
Jack/Bitty - omgcp: everyone on tumblr had already moved on by the time i got into omgcp last november, so it feels like im the only one who cares about them anymore but AHHHHHHHHHH i love jack/bitty so much and jack zimmermann in particular (not surprising since spock and lan wangji are two of my other favorite characters, you can see a pattern here) ANYWAYS i think that they are such a fucking good pairing. bitty unconsciously bringing jack out of his shell and making him want to open up and be receptive to love and to be a braver person just by virtue of being apologetically bitty is SO SWEET!! I THINK ABOUT THEM ALL THE TIME!!!!!! read Something Like This by emmagrant01 on ao3!!!!
Destiel - Supernatural: i mean what the fuck do you want me to say. its a man in gay love with an angel. if you’ve followed me for any length of time you’ll know two things: im gay and i love the abstract idea of christian mythology. destiel ticks all of my stupid boxes! one of my fave pastimes is going on ao3 and sorting destiel fics oldest to newest and reading all the really good super early fics when no one knew where the show was going with their angel mythology so fic writers relied on the actual bible and took angels seriously and it was GREAT!
Nick/Jess - New Girl: they’re soulmates from SEASON. ONE. EPISODE. ONE. baybee!!!!!!!! aint nothing else to say!
Flint/Thomas - Black Sails: this is a ship i dont talk about THAT often but is extremely important to me for what it represents. ive written about 500 tag essays about how black sails is important for many reasons, one of which is that it’s a show that believes in gay joy and happy endings for gay people. the fact that flint spent a decade in mourning for thomas, burning down as much of the english empire as he could in retribution for how thomas was treated, killed all of the people who called him a monster for being in love, and then at the end of it all STILL got his happy ending? absolute catharsis. extremely close to my heart.
Larry - One Direction: [explanation redacted]
Wei Wuxian/Lan Wangji - The Untamed: new comers and heavy fucking hitters WANGXIAN!!!!!!!! there was no way in hell that i was ever NOT going to be fully in love with them once i started this show. not only are they ancient chinese kirk/spock, but everything else about their dynamic is just so fucking good!!!! childhood enemies to reluctant friends to shy crushes to soulmates in pursuit of justice and Doing The Right Thing to them against the world to one of them dies and the other wears white in mourning for 16 years to one of them is resurrected and the other knows its him immediately to a stronger connection than ever to once again them! against! the! world! to LOVERS to MARRIED to DOMESTIC BLISS AND RAISING THEIR CHILD TOGETHER. its..............a lot! and its so good!
this was super fun and im going to tag @wolfbuddy, @significationary, @curlytemple, and @nicolegendary (nicole i want to hear your essay on the gay alien cw show very badly) if you guys are interested in doing this!!!

am i still emotionally compromised by the latest episode? yes, yes i am
but the next week promo analysis must go on, we must still be brave, be bold, and be courageous, just as our beloved Captain Pike was and still is
so onwards to the beginning of a two part finale of this amazing season 2!
the promo starts with a voiceover from Saru: “there is a battle coming...”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sarek seems to have been meditating on the beach??? And then he opens his eyes as if he saw something?
Or perhaps this field he’s in is the vision? Is he seeing something through Michael’s eyes?
Saru continues in his voiceover: “...the odds are not in our favor...”
Tumblr media
Michael is looking out the window at a ship, I can only assume that this is Michael on The Enterprise looking out to The Discovery, maybe like a one last goodbye to this ship that has been her home for the last year or so, maybe this is right before they have to destroy the ship
Tumblr media
look at this though!!!! Discovery and Enterprise together!! yessssss!!!!!!
yeah the Enterprise design is updated but it is still very recognizable
Michael’s voiceover starts here: “Captain Pike has always had faith that we’d play a part in some grand design...”
Tumblr media
we see Pike walking through the halls as people are packing up and moving stuff, it’s clear that what Pike went through on Boreth still is weighing on him, there is a warmth that is missing that he usually always has even in tense situations
Tumblr media
Nhan is also here, directing people on where to go, my guess is this is when everyone is moving from Discovery to Enterprise
Tumblr media
Pike: “all of you will face your destinies with bravery and honor” - says the man who did indeed just face his own destiny with bravery and honor, again, there is an ever so subtle change in body language in Anson Mount’s acting, Pike moves with a tiredness that wasn’t there before
Pike is in his yellow uniform, so my assumption is that this is taking place on Enterprise’s bridge, not Discovery’s, though that could also be wrong
Tumblr media
Spock in this scene I believe is still on the Discovery, right outside the window behind him is part of the Enterprise but I think this is part of that shot of Discovery and Enterprise side by side
Tumblr media
Michael looks intense and concentrated, probably ready to kick some ass!
Tumblr media
Georgiou is on the bridge and back in black leather, again, I can’t tell if this is Discovery’s bridge or Enterprise, but I assume this is the same scene we see of Pike talking about everyone’s destinies
I am curious to see what part Georgiou will play and if somehow her own destiny may come into play as it was hinted when she talked to Gabrielle Burnham that Gabrielle seemed sure that Georgiou would sacrifice and do good things
then we have Michael’s voiceover return: “...I wish I had his certainty...”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Michael and Tyler having more intense emotional hugging moments, I’m sure there will be all the feels, it’s always feels with these two, just killing me with the feels
Tumblr media
Discovery and Enterprise together again!!!! god i just love how cool they look beside each other!!!!
Tumblr media
Number One: “9 more enemy vessels have just dropped out of warp”
THERE ARE RED HANDRAILS
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY TO SEE HAND RAILS
especially after i have been screaming all season about why Discovery doesn’t have hand rails given how many times Pike has yeeted himself out of his chair
now of course these red handrails are more in line with Kirk’s Enterprise bridge a decade in the future during TOS time than they do of the black handrails that was seen in The Cage which is set 3 years before Disco season 2 events, but still, a change in coloring of the handrails is the least concerning thing, one can easily assume that they just had a paint change since they were out on repairs anyways
this design is obviously more modernized to fit in line with the visuals on Discovery, but it’s very recognizable again as the Enterprise bridge, it’s just slightly bigger - it’s a bigger screen, more space on the bridge for people to move, and the screens are more fancy - but this is all still very much Enterprise, just updated to fit with modern sensibilities
Tumblr media
Saru: “prepare for battle!”
here we see Saru in the captain’s chair, I assume this takes place on the Discovery, which means Pike is commanding Enterprise and Saru has taken command of Discovery as the two ships work together to deal with the battle against Control
we do also catch Nhan in the corner of this shot, which is interesting that an Enterprise crew member didn’t go back to her ship and is on the Discovery
Tumblr media
Tilly is back!! and she looks very concerned, as she should be given all the drama that’s been happening, poor thing!
Tumblr media
Michael looks like she’s hatching some plans! uh oh!
behind Michael is an Enterprise crew member in gold uniform, so she is on the Enterprise, also the red doors behind here we last saw when she was on the Enterprise to enter Spock’s room
Tumblr media
Enterprise firing off their weapons at someone, I assume this takes place during the battle that Enterprise and Discovery will have with Control
damn she looks sooooooo good, look at this beauty of a ship!
Tumblr media
Pike: “it’s time...”
he is saying this to Michael who is just a bit off screen, you can see a glimpse of her hair as we come into this scene in the promo, and everyone is still on the Discovery at the moment obviously since we see Detmer and Owo behind Pike in this scene still at their stations
i believe Pike is saying “it’s time” either because it’s time to fight Control, or it’s time for him to formally leave the Discovery to return to Enterprise to command them for this battle, this could be him officially handing command back to Saru?
now this next episode is suppose to the first of a two parter season finale, and the title is “Such Sweet Sorrow”, part of that parting is such sweet sorrow phrase, but I don’t think Pike is gonna exit at this moment before the last episode, I think the parting is about the crew saying goodbye to Discovery since the whole thing is about they have to leave the ship, so this moment in the promo can be a bit of a misdirect at play to make us think a certain way
again with the way these promos are cut and how they shift things around, it’s hard to pinpoint what moments go in what sequence
now the most interesting bit of this screenshot though, is the fact that behind Pike on the view screen, we see the name Xahea, you might remember that name from the Short Treks episode Runaway when Tilly encounters Po, who was a Xahean royal princess who ran off when she was suppose to be crowned Queen - it looks like here, something is happening to the planet? or perhaps a signal appears over Xahea and thus leading the Discovery there?
the inclusion of Xahea means that this is the second time that Discovery has directly referenced one of the four Short Treks episodes - we saw them link Saru’s Short Treks story to this season, and now Tilly’s Short Treks episode looks to be coming into play - add that onto the mountains of theories about how Discovery may get sent into the future and that somehow is linked to Calypso, the only Short Treks that we may not have a link to this season is the Harry Mudd one, unless you count time crystals as linking to Mudd since the first time we saw a time crystal in Discovery was because of Mudd last season
now, the writers and cast and crew have hyped it up that the ending of this story arc is suppose to be unexpected and game-changing and answer questions that people have always asked about Discovery’s place in canon, some of it could be your typical promotional hype machine, but given how this show has a tendency to sometimes throw curveballs and be unexpected, I can believe that the writers could throw out something totally unexpected and in a way, i really do want to be surprised, though that does make the analysis a little harder LOL
we’re at the beginning of the end of the line though, hard to believe that it’s just gone by so quickly already, it feels like we’ve barely begun to be honest!
well, we still gotta boldly go, so off we are to Episode 13 and yes, parting is Such Sweet Sorrow

Hello! Its not really an ask, but a thank you :) It was a nice surprise for me finding your TOS analysis on ffnet. I had seen the show a couple of years ago. Thought it was very good, read some fanfic. I guess thats all, but Kirk Spock became a constant for me. I kept looking for more fanfics, and i always wished to see it again the show, but i had no time...excuses, excuses ;) Because when i found your analysis, i jumped into the show. You´ve made me like it more, laugh more and enjoy (p1)
And enjoy it much more. I´ve seen it in VOS (english not my first language), so this way i wasnt missing anything. You didnt continue, and i think first episodes i felt a bit more alone but sometimes i smiled trying to figure your comments. Im starting third season. I´ve just love this show. But thank you for bring me back to it. ANyway, another question. I´ve read you´ve written some books (a book?) in amazon. Do you mind to share, if its possible? Thank you!----------------------------------------This is so sweet, and it blows my mind to still get messages like this a decade after I started The Commentary. You’re lovely and your english is coming along nicely.
Thank you for asking about the book! It’s called Veridia, and it’s a fantasy novel that goes to some extremely dark places: A severely depressed college girl suffering from visual and auditory hallucinations falls into another realm that’s just as beautiful as it is horrific. She clashes with the realm’s creator, and once she finds out what exactly he wants, has to survive long enough to make sure he never, ever gets it.
Veridia is a book about trying to save yourself despite every urge to do the opposite.
Trigger warning for self-harm, violence, and disturbing imagery. It’s not a horror novel, but it’s the same level of explicitness.
*Grab the ebook, not the paperback. Despite dozens of hours of formatting the paperback still came out a mess.

"STAR TREK DISCOVERY" Season Two Musings
Tumblr media
Below is an article that I had written about Season Two of “STAR TREK DISCOVERY”.  Parts of the article is an amalgamation of previous posts about the series’ second season:
"STAR TREK DISCOVERY" SEASON TWO MUSINGS There have been plenty of articles on the Internet that many television shows with successful first seasons usually decline in quality with its second season. This is known as the "second season curse". I do not There have been plenty of cases when the quality of a television series has improved with each succeeding season. However, I do believe there are some shows that adhere to this theory. When it comes to Season Two of the CBS All Access series, "STAR TREK DISCOVERY", some believe it had . Most Trek fans either believe that Season One of "DISCOVERY" was a disaster. Many were put off by Michael Burnham, who is portrayed by an African-American actress, as the series' lead. Many had complained about the series' serialized format. And there were numerous complaints about the season's ambiguous portrayal of its main characters and the Federation. Despite these complaints, "STAR TREK DISCOVERY" managed to become a big hit and attract many fans. Unfortunately, the show runners had listened to these disenchanted fans who considered themselves "veteran" Trekkers and made certain changes to the series for its second season. I usually have no problems with a series making some kind of changes. It is necessary for a series to develop. However, some of the changes or additions to Season Two of "DISCOVERY" . . . bothered me. Season Two began with the episode called (2.01) "Brother", when Captain Christopher Pike of the U.S.S. Enterprise, took emergency command of the U.S.S. Discovery after his ship was damaged during the crew’s investigation of seven mysterious red signals. The last signal led Pike and the Discovery crew to an asteroid made of non-baryonic matter, where they discovered the U.S.S. Hiawatha, damaged during the Federation-Klingon War of last season. How did the Hiawatha crew’s rescue play a role in the season’s overall arc? Were the events of "Brother" more about rescuing Commander Reno and adding a new character to the series? If so, this was a piss-poor and vague way to do it. Reno could have easily been transferred to Discovery as its new chief engineer without this convoluted set-up to bring her aboard the ship. Also, she had played a very limited role in the second season’s narrative. By mid-season, I found myself wondering why she had not returned to Starfleet Headquarters on Earth, following her rescue. I did not learn until after the finale had aired that she had been officially assigned to Discovery. Huh? And there was the matter of a primitive Human colony on a planet called Terralysium. The Red Angel had led the Discovery to the colony and prevented its inhabitants from being destroyed by an extinction-level radiation shower. How did this play a role in Season Two's overall arc? Burnham and the Discovery crew eventually discovered that the signals came from a time travel sentient being called "the Red Angel". And the Red Angel turned out to be Michael's presumed dead mother, Dr. Gabrielle Burnham. Since viewers learned that Dr. Burnham's overall goal was to make the Federation aware of dangerous artificial intelligence called "Control", why did she go out of her way to bring attention to the Hiawatha crew and Terralysium's inhabitants? As it turned out, Dr. Burnham was not involved in those situations. Michael was. Michael had ended up using the Red Angel suit in the season's finale, (2.14) "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part II". And she was the one who had sent the seven signals, including the two that led Starfleet to both the Hiawath and Terralysium. Really? Was that show runners' way of explaining why the Red Angel led the Discovery crew to situations that had no major impact upon Season Two's narrative? Frankly, I found this rather a waste of time. Perhaps Michael wanted to save Commander Reno and allow Terralysium to survive when Discovery arrived in the future. But honestly, the show runners and their writers could have handled this with tighter writing. Or perhaps the above scenarios were inevitable, since the show runners had planned to send the U.S.S. Discovery over nine hundred years into the future. Imagine, a serialized television show's format or setting undergoing an extensive change in the middle of its run - during its third season. The series went from being about a Starfleet science vessel during the 2250s to one that is exploring the future. Why? Alex Kurtzman claimed that he had wanted to take the series into a new setting so that the writers would not have to work hard to connect the series' narrative with the 1966-1969 series, "STAR TREK". Especially since the latter series is set a decade after "DISCOVERY" and so many fans have been crying plot holes upon discovering that Michael Burnham was the adoptive daughter of Spock's parents, Sarek and Amanda Grayson. Pop culture fans can be incredibly stupid sometimes. And so are the television show runners who listen to them. Taking the U.S.S. Discovery some 900 years into the future struck me as one of the most unnecessary moves the show runners could have made. I also find the whole idea ridiculous. "STAR TREK DISCOVERY" began in 2256 - a decade earlier than "THE ORIGINAL SERIES" and aboard another Starfleet ship . . . with a different crew. There would have been NO NEED for the series to make a concerted effort to connect with the 1966-69 series, despite Michael Burnham being the adopted sister of Spock. At best, Spock, Sarek and Amanda can make the occasional appearance on the show. If "DISCOVERY" ever lasts as long as those shows between 1987 and 2001 - "STAR TREK: NEXT GENERATION", "STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE" and "STAR TREK VOYAGER" - the series' setting would have ended in 2263 or 2264 - at least two to three years before the beginning of "THE ORIIGNAL SERIES"setting. Did any of the show runners ever considered this? By changing the premise, "DISCOVERY" will only end up being some kind of time travel version of "VOYAGER". And that does not strike me as particularly original. There is another problem with the new direction that the series had undertaken in the Season Two finale - namely the former Most Imperial Majesty, Mother of the Fatherland, Overlord of Vulcan, Dominus of Qo'noS, Regina Andor, Philippa Georgiou Augustus Iaponius Centarius of the Mirror Universe. As everyone knows, mirror Philippa eventually impersonated the deceased Captain Georgiou prime as a retired Starfleet officer and later became a Section 31 operative. Midway during the airing of Season Two, it was announced that Michelle Yeoh, who portrayed Georgiou, would headline a new Trek series in the near future about Section 31. Why is this a problem? Georgiou was one of the Starfleet personnel aboard Discovery when it followed Michael in the Red Angel suit . . . into the future. If Discovery being 900 years in the future is the series' new premise, how will Georgiou return to the 2250s in order to continue her story with Section 31? Someone had suggested that she will command Section 31 in the 32nd century? Really? Why on earth would anyone in Earth's future allow a woman from the 23rd century assume command of an organization like Section 31? There were aspects of Season Two that I liked. I found Starfleet's conflict with the A.I. entity known as Control rather interesting . . . and frightening. Many Trek fans had complained that "Control" should have been portrayed as the origin story for the Borg. What they had forgotten that around this period Trek history the Borg had existed for quite some time and had wiped out the El-Aurian home world. Using "Control" as the Borg's origin story was out of the question. I also enjoyed how the writers used the spore drive's mycelial plane to bring Dr. Hugh Culber back from the dead and how this resurrection had affected his relationship with Lieutenant Paul Stamets. I especially enjoyed Michael's reunion with her missing mother, Gabrielle Burnham. In fact, I could honestly say that I had truly enjoyed the episodes of mid-Season Two - from (2.05) "Saints of Imperfection" to (2.11) "Perpetual Infinity". However, I did not like the finale, (2.13-2.14) "Such Sweet Sorrow". Many had complained that the two-part episode seemed over saturated with action. Or that the finale seemed more "STAR WARS"than "STAR TREK". The action in "Such Sweet Sorrow" did not bother me. I certainly had no problems with Georgiou's brutal fight against the Control-possessed Captain Leland. Along with Discovery's eventual journey into the future, I had some problem's with the episode's writing. One of those problems involved Ash Tyler, the former Klingon whose body and consciousness had been transformed into a Starfleet officer who had died during the Federation-Klingon War. Instead of joining the rest of the Discovery crew for their journey into the future, he remained behind to contact Empress L'Rell (his or Voq's former paramour) to help Starfleet's conflict against Control. This would be nothing, but Ash had openly contacted L'Rell and was later by her side aboard a Klingon starship during the battle. Apparently, Alex Kurtzman and the episode's screenwriter that Georgiou and Section 31 had went through a good deal of trouble to end Ash's brief role as L'Rell's aide on the Klingon home world in order to save her reign as the new Empress . . . by faking his death. Worse, Starfleet put Ash in command of Section 31, despite his limited experience with the agency and his unsuitability as a spy. Despite the fact that Georgiou had managed to destroy Control and prevent it from acquiring the massive data from the Sphere that the crew had discovered in (2.04) "An Obol for Charon", Michael and the Discovery crew traveled into the future anyway. Following Discovery's disappearance into the future, Captain Pike (back in command of the Enterprise) and Ash informed Starfleet that Discovery had been destroyed during the battle against Control. Why? Why did the writers feel that was necessary? I feel as if a great deal of unnecessary writing decisions had been made in this episode to justify the Discovery's journey into the future. For me, the biggest frustrations of Season Two proved to be the presence of Spock and Captain Christopher Pike. Especially the latter. But I will start with Spock first. Initially, I had no problem with Spock's role in the season's narrative. But once the crew had identified Gabrielle Burnham as the Red Angel and Admiral Katrina Cromwell had returned to Starfleet Headquarters, why did Spock remain aboard the Discovery? Why did he not return to Headquarters with the Admiral and rejoin the Enterprise crew? However, Spock's continuing presence aboard the Discovery struck me as minor problem in compare to the presence of his commanding officer, Captain Pike. I have been a fan of Anson Mount since he starred in the AMC series, "HELL ON WHEELS". But I wish to God that he had never been cast as Christopher Pike in "STAR TREK DISCOVERY". More importantly, I wish that the show runners had never utilized the character in the first place. I believe Christopher Pike was the worst aspect about Season Two of "STAR TREK DISCOVERY". His presence on the show struck me as irrelevant. Useless. Why did the show runners have him serve as Discovery's commander throughout the entire season? Why was he even needed? Saru could have easily remained in command of Discovery after the crew was given the Red Angel mission. This was the officer who had led the ship out of the Mirror Universe. And he had also stood behind the crew's refusal to obey Starfleet's order to help Georgiou to decimate the Klingon home world in the Season One finale, (1.15) "Will You Take My Hand?". With the Enterprise temporarily out of commission, Pike could have appeared in "Brother" to hand over the Red Angel mission to the Discovery crew and to inform Spock's disappearance to both Michael and Sarek before guiding his damaged ship back to Starfleet Headquarters. Then he and the Enterprise could have returned for the final battle against Control in "Such Sweet Sorrow". But no. Certain fans had raised a fuss over an African-American actress serving as the lead of a Star Trek series and cried tears over "DISCOVERY" not being "traditional Trek". And the series' show runners made the mistake of listening to them, despite the fact that "DISCOVERY" was a hit. And with Pike, they had provided these narrow-minded fans with an ideal leading male character to swoon over. But why did the show runners felt it was necessary to appease these fans with the addition of Pike for Season Two? Pike was not needed. Even worse, they did not have to paint Captain Pike as this ridiculously ideal Starfleet officer. Because frankly, he came off as a bore. And bland. There were moments when the series was willing to portray Pike's idealism and inflexibility as flaws, especially in his conflict with Ash Tyler. However, by (2.09) "Project Daedalus", it seemed quite obvious that the show runners were determined to paint Pike as "the perfect or near perfect" Starfleet officer. This became obvious in his conflict with Ash. Even when Pike was seen to be in the wrong in both (2.07) "Light and Shadows" and (2.08) "If Memory Serves", Pike was painted in a more sympathetic light than Ash. If only the show runners had ditched this useless conflict and focused more attention on the fallout between Ash and Hugh from Season One, I would have been more impressed. In "THE ORIGINAL SERIES" episode, (1.11-1.12) "The Menagerie", Trek fans had first learned about Pike's future as a paraplegic, due to an accident. Somehow, the writers managed to twist Pike's future as some kind of "heroic sacrifice" in which he had to give up the idea of accepting Klingon time crystals to defeat Control or taking them and facing a future as a paraplegic. There was no need to include what I believe proved to be a contrived and unnecessary plot twist. I loved Season One of "DISCOVERY". Despite some moments of clunky writing, I thought it had provided something new and exciting to the Star Trek franchise. I became an instant fan. There were aspects of Season Two that I liked - Starfleet's conflict with Control, Dr. Hugh Culber's resurrection and Michael Burnham's reunion with her mother, Gabrielle Burnham. However, there were aspects of Season Two that I disliked. Too many. And that included the season finale, (2.14) "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part II", along with Discovery’s unnecessary trip into the future. Also, I saw no reason for the over utilization of characters like Spock and Captain Christopher Pike. I saw their presence during the season as a heavy-handed attempt with the "nostalgic factor" to win over certain Trek fans still mired in the past. It must have worked to a certain degree. Many have declared Season Two to be superior to Season One. Do I agree with this assessment? Obviously . . . no. In my opinion, I feel that the Trek fandom's desire for nostalgia - especially in the form of Christopher Pike and Spock - has made Season Two overrated in my opinion . . . and a victim of the "second season curse". And most importantly, I saw no need for Christopher Pike to serve as the temporary commander of the U.S.S. Discovery. I found this decision by the show runners to be completely unnecessary.

I was lying awake last night just dreaming about the iconic trio, McCoy, Kirk and Spock. And dammit, every single episode of TOS just confirms that these guys are a polyamorous trio. They are all in love!
So how did this come about? Oh ho ho ho my sleep brain formulated a story for you all
Kirk and McCoy start off as friends with benefits. They love each other as friends but McCoy basically seeks Jim out when he's having relationship issues and Jim kinda floats between people
Jim is a flirt. A big lovable flirt who will fall desperately in love with someone for a day and then move on
Until he meets Spock. They both get assigned to a ship for maybe 3-5 years and Jim falls hard for the logical, calm, intelligent, handsome half-vulcan who keeps beating him at chess
Spock at first is oblivious to these attentions. Then he doesn't understand them. Why would Mr Feelings of the Passion Brigade (and sometimes Break The Rules Squad) be interested in him?
Jim gets drunk one night and comes on hard to Spock. Spock kindly gets him into his pajamas and tucks him into bed. They end up cuddling but in the morning Spock just makes Jim drink water and moves on like it didn't happen
But secretly he can't stop thinking about this human who cares so much about others and clearly has a capacity for leadership no one else sees yet
Also he smells nice
But alas! One night he accidentally sees Jim and McCoy together. Heartbroken, he believes he was simply arrogantly reading into their relationship
I dunno, through contrivance because it's my story, McCoy and Spock end up talking. McCoy knows about Jim's big crush but doesn't get it. Spock casually enquires about the nature of their relationship and McCoy explains Jim is a lover AND a fighter. He drops that Jim is currently in love with someone
This becomes an obsession for Spock. No one would know of course, but for a year at least, he's consumed with the need to find out who Jim loves (and why it isn't him)
Jim continues to pine while him and Spock get closer and closer.
Spock saves Jim's life (mission gone wrong) and there is hand touching that drives both of them wild for different reasons
They are assigned different ships and parting is such sweet sorrow
They stay in correspondence and the mutual pining only intensifies until one night Jim accidentally sends a poem of love to Spock
He's mortified and trying to figure out how to downplay it when to his surprise he receives a poem back
Back and forth the prose goes and they start long distance "dating" for two years
Finally they are able to meet. They talk for hours until the bar closes and Jim invites Spock back to his room. Spock explains the significance of hand holding. He kisses Jim everywhere. They hold hands.
Somehow it comes up that Spock knows about Jim's tendencies and Jim explains he never saw anyone else while he and Spock have been dating. Spock explains he doesn't mind, because it is illogical to be jealous when he is so convinced of Jim's love for him
As the years go by, Jim's relationship with McCoy becomes deeper and romantic
When Jim becomes Captain, he assigns both his boyfriends to his ship. Starfleet command knows this, and normal rules for dating in the workplace apply. The trio try to keep it on the downlow in public.
Spock and McCoy get on primarily through their mutual love of Jim, and even before they became very good friends, they would both join in on Jim's demand for a "cuddle pile"
The thing that bugs them the most is when Jim, with that smile of his, says "You're more alike than you think"
But he's right, because Jim can love anyone but he's only deeply in love with these two. They are stubborn, compassionate, deeply loving individuals who believe in justice and discovery, but show it in very different ways
Anyway, the three of them fly through space pretending the rest of the Enterprise doesn't know they are in love and basically just being married forever the end
