Why do I feel like Oscar is intentionally keeping Lando at a distance because he assumes it would never work out? And Lando kind of wishes Oscar would show an interest but he isn't so Lando pulls back too? Maybe I'm totally crazy but feels like they're doing a double fake out. If not then why not just be friendly the way they are with other guys?

gonna put below a cut and include some other asks that aren't necessarily of interest to everyone and are kind of in the same vein (note the tag)

okay so "why not just be friendly like they are with other guys" is a pretty good thing to focus on bc when you actually break it down, Lando and Oscar define themselves as being pretty shy and they conceal a fair amount their lives and closest friends from the public. and truth is that it seems to take both of them at least a year of knowing someone before they open up - and even longer before they're as friendly as we see them with guys like Logan, Zhou, Carlos or Daniel. Lando lists the guys he's known since as far back as karting as his closest friends. so after just one season together, what we already have in terms of friendliness between Lando and Oscar is pretty damn good!

but honestly we can't say that either of them are really holding back at all when we've got Andrea and Zak constantly emphasizing how in sync they are and then of course how big they both show up for each other's wins/poles etc. whatever we don't get in terms of fun fandom content, we've got them showing each other mutual respect and support and sharing the same priorities. that's... really good imo.

it's what cracks me up abt everyone who went all 'planetf1 angry white dad in oakleys selfie in a truck comment section' over that recent Oscar quote. Lando's literally had everyone saying the same thing to him, directly and on social media ?? did they also decide that Martin Brundle, Natalie Pinkham, Lawrence Barretto and Jenson Button all despise Lando and want to take swipes at him by saying that his public flagellation feels of no use and worse, that it's probably a hindrance to his mindset? did Lando suddenly became loathed by all these people who SEEM to openly like or love him bc they said that ??

or did they expect Oscar to respond to that question with "oh no yeah it's cool that my teammate who I actually like shits all over himself and gives his haters ammo y'know to each their own whatever man" bc that WOULD actually be incredibly cold and hurtful asgajsgfljasf

I know fandom can go way off track and start expecting these men to talk like fan fic but the truth is that they view each other as professionals and fellow drivers first and friends (if they are) second. I won't repeat myself bc I've posted about it enough but none of the grid are a significant part of Lando or Oscar's life outside F1. Lando and Martin did a stopover in Perth (and apparently Martin even had work there?) for one day to ride dirt bikes at Daniel's ranch and Lando went to Carlos' sisters' gigantic state wedding lol. doesn't compare at all compared to Lando's time spent with Max F, the quadrant folks, his family, his Monaco friends and definitely not Martin Garrix. it also doesn't mean that they're not still friends with those guys on the grid - it's just not the same.

so the fact that Lando and Oscar aren't out here dishing out bromancey stuff where fans can see and hear definitely doesn't say that those bromances mean the drivers are actually any closer. Oscar relied on extroverts like Robert and Arthur to give him something to play off and Lando relied on Carlos and Daniel for the same. so when they're left without a gobby extrovert they do that cute thing of giggling and handing back and forth to each other. to me personally it's always kind of sweet ?? that Lando and Oscar do the thing of looking at each other for support to get through the cringey and awkward to camera stuff. sometimes when Lando is really feeling himself Oscar can just kick back and watch him. and as we saw w that helmet design video, even when Oscar isn't filming w Lando he hangs around offers support.

wow apparently I cannot stay on track today anon but idk I just personally think that it's the opposite of a mutual fakeout and they've bonded pretty well over both being shy, both being equally focused on their careers and also needing to switch off sometimes. finding out they spent the night after Lando's crash in Vegas together sharing "commiserations" is like, one in a long list of us hearing that they chose to hang out alone together and not publicize it.

all of us are on the outside of their friendship and as much as that suuuuucks for not getting as much content as we want, it's also really sweet and kind more likely to be genuine and lasting since they consider a lot of that relationship as private <3

askgfka no prob!! tbh a lot of the stress and anxiety in other Lando ships is down to ppl getting way too comfy w the idea that real life partners either aren't "real" or that they're the only thing standing in the way of their ship becoming real.

and bc for some reason landoscar makes me want to write all of these essays I feel like it's kind of my responsibility to be like yeah, there's even more than just assuming ppl's sexualities and their real life partners stand between two ppl we like to imagine together actually getting together. rpf is heavy on the f and mostly what we're all actually enjoying are friendships. and as someone who is lucky to have them, I personally wouldn't be one of those ppl who said romantic partners and friendships are on some sliding scale of importance. they're just different!

ever since landoscar became a thing, Lily's been in Oscar's life and Lando's been pursued by every man who sees him and burning through baddies on Raya on a literal global scale. it's important to come back from rpf to that fact so we don't end up attraction those legions of people calling real life girlfriends "PR beards" or that Lando's dating app horniness is some front for him meeting up with Carlos or Daniel or whoever lol.

oh I am so not the person to answer abt this since I can't relate to wanting couples to get married or thinking that it's all that significant! I'm a huge romantic and I theoretically enjoy the idea of weddings/marriage but all the ppl I know who've gotten married out of college are already regretting or cheating it so it's put a real damper on it for me.

but that's as much as I want to speculate abt them bc I don't want to put anything out in the universe for ppl I'll never even know !!

More About Her; Storm is a calming presence in the rushing hustle and bustle of the music scene. She's pretty serious, but not strict. She's down to earth and often a voice of reason when it comes to her friends shenanigans. Somehow, she's always left picking up the pieces even if she wasn't involved. Storm also tends to play devil's advocate.

She radiates confidence in everything she does. Surety fills her voice when she speaks and her movements are smooth. Deep down she does have insecurities and doubts, but she stamps them out before they can truly take hold.

Heart Rate Challenge Time!!!

So excited for this HOWEVER the outfit choices are awful! I am so disappointed in the options for MC! Why the awful bright iridescent colors?! What happened to our choices compared to the other girls?? I would literally have taken any one of those over our choices! Ours are so tacky and cheap looking! The mermaid isn’t sexy AT ALL and the cowgirl literally hurts my eyes AND the hat/collar don’t sit right on MC’s body and hair! 😤 The other girls get such cute outfits - especially Bea and Emel…

Anyways, back to the challenge! I do enjoy this one but seeing Sienna all over my Casa boy was hard to watch even though I’m with Jin. I wish we could choose to dance a little bit for everyone like Claudia did instead of all one person. I want to raise as many heart rates as I can!! 🤣

Hazel liking Liam is sad. Poor girl. Oh well she’s been warned too. Bit of a hypocrite with Emel though (shocker!) calling out Hari for not dancing with Hazel but Hazel chose Liam to dance all over and nothing was said to her… I hate double standards.

Not sure how I feel about the Viking outfits… like I like that each boy’s version is a bit different, but the hats sit really weird on their heads. Definitely not a fan of the caveman one on Jin, doesn’t show enough! Max’s superhero is so cute! He can save me any day! Also, he gets bonus points for having pop as his song type because that is what I picked as my favorite! And I’m a fan of Indiana Jones so that was a good one too! But the guys outfits are pretty cute this season! Overall two thumbs up for the boys 👍👍

And of course Liam is a jester… 🙄

I wonder how the results will go… if either Jin or Max gets their heart rate raised most by Sienna then I’m gonna be upset. I know I can’t have both in the same playthrough, but they’re both still mine!! 😅

I really hope the new bombshell doesn’t pick me. Please go for anyone else but me. I am finally back with Jin and I don’t want to ruin that! Also, I’m not a fan of his face so that doesn’t help! lol I guess we shall see what happens next week.

Outlander Season 6 Finale

I thought this episode was very well done. Stuck fairly close to the book. I don't think we've had a true cliffhanger ending since Season 1a with Jamie in the window.  Hopefully droughtlander isn't another 2 years wait. SPOILERS BELOW>>>>>>>>> Jamie Fraser knows how to build a house! Not only is it big and beautiful, but there is a full armory in the basement! Did he stash some of the guns he gave the Native Americans? Because, he had at least a dozen rifles and half as many handguns. Prepared for just about anything, that's our JAMMF! I saw someone refer to Claire as Clannie Oakley and it made me laugh. She's a pretty good shot! How she fit that horse pistol in her skirt pocket is a seamstress miracle! Was it like a tunnel pocket and the gun was strapped to her thigh? That thing ain't lightweight. Anyway she wasn't messing around and shot that dude in the gut without missing a beat. Claire Fraser, ladies and gentlemen, dealing out “fuck around and find out” since 1774.  The Jamie/Claire love scene was OK. Sam completely nude to distract us all from Cait clothed. They hid the pregnancy well - kudos to Caitriona and Sam though because that could not have been comfortable for either of them - even if they trust each other completely. Pregnancy is a vulnerable state of mind and body. Poor Tom Christie! You can see that this whole ordeal has just taken it out of him. He's determined to make sure Claire doesn't come to any harm. And Jamie's no fool...he studied Tom and figured out the why of it and seems to have made his peace with it. Jamie has a lot of great qualities, but he's admittedly a jealous man. That he lets this slide without comment is interesting. Jamie is using Tom’s feelings for Claire to keep her alive. Very shrewd, that Jamie. Richard Brown! Is he evil? Misguided? I thought maybe he was really just trying to do his best in a bad situation there for a minute when he talked to Claire, but then he had to go and ruin it. The guy is bad news and he's got to go! I can't remember in ABOSSA if the Frasers take him out but hopefully someone will. Ian? Where you at dude?! If anyone needs an arrow to the heart it's Richard Brown. Turns out Ian is on their trail and attacks in the knick of time! Before the B team of this whole debacle puts Jamie on a boat to Scotland, Ian and Chief Bird along with some friends comes to the rescue and takes out the bad guys. There’s one guy left and Jamie says “don’t shoot him He knows where Clare is!” And bad guy is like “Ha! Can’t kill me, MFers!” but then Ian says “So do we” and you can just see the guy went to “Oh Shit!” in about 1/10 of a second. Chief shoots this guy through his hand and into his eye - pretty graphic, but kinda cool - gotta say. The MacKenzies are on the road to Edenton so Roger can look into becoming an ordained minister. I think in the book they are in the future, so not there when all this goes down at the Big House. Too bad because Bree could have shot the snot out of those bad guys. Anyway, Jem gets lice - they cut his hair and find out he's got the same birthmark as Roger. Hurray! Roger is a biodad.......Hey show! For the love of Outlander fans everywhere, please stop the Roger/Bree love scenes. Really...they don’t work. The actors do not have romantic chemistry and the age difference makes it kind of icky. Thank you.......The most interesting part of this section to me was that Jemmy was talking to Bree's stomach. Now kids do this all the time IRL, but I found this interesting because in the books Jem & Amanda can "feel" each other and have a very strong connection.  Laying some groundwork writers? WTH with the Fisher folk??!? What an ungrateful, ridiculously pious bunch of crazies! And that one lady that Fergus threw the drink in her face should get another one....was she in Cranesmuir back in the day when they tried to burn Claire as a witch? Because she sure is stuck on that witchcraft stuff. So they left us in an interesting place. Claire is in jail, awaiting trial. Tom Christie is watching over her. Jamie and Ian are heading there to rescue her...maybe? Break her out of jail? The MacKenzies are still on the road and don't know any of this stuff yet. Maybe Fergus will get the news and save the day with a scathing article in L'Onion on the injustice! Until then....DroughtLander!

Synopsis: Shockwave has decided to take out what he thinks is the weakest link in the Autobots decides to track him down and install an electro-calculator module to make Bumblebee his slave and use him to destroy the Autobots.

At the Ark, Optimus Prime reviews news reports about the "Robot Master" while the other Autobots undergo repairs. Prime tells his fellow Autobots that any one of them can be exploited by the enemy and that they should stick tighter and appear in public less. Overhearing this, Bumblebee believes that Optimus Prime is referring specifically to him and decides he's better off alone. Envying the humans, he wishes he could be one and spends time lamenting outside of a town. He is tracked down by Buzzsaw and Shockwave, Starscream, Thundercracker and Laserbeak catch up and the Decepticons attack him, causing him significant damage. Bumblebee transforms into vehicle and speeds away. Fleeing through the city, Bumblebee is dogged by the Decepticons and manages to lose them by hiding out in a parking lot.

That night, two joyriding teenagers named Waldo and Ernest enter the parking lot looking for a car to joy ride in. They pick Bumblebee, and in hot wiring him they disconnect his independent motor functions leaving him at their mercy. With Bumblebee rolling again, Shockwave and the other Decepticons detect him and resume their chase. When news reports reach the Ark, Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to roll out and save Bumblebee.

Waldo and Ernest are driving around causing trouble and then street race with another youth in a fast car. While they gain the upper hand until Bumblebee's engine dies. Trying to figure out what's happened, the two boys fix Bumblebee, reconnecting all his motor relays. Deciding he's enjoying the free-spirited lifestyle Bumblebee decides to continue joy riding with the kids. The Decepticons catch up and attack him, and Bumblebee is forced to take control and drive the boys from danger.

Speeding on the roads they blaze through a toll booth bringing the police chasing after them. The Decepticons activity in the air force forcing the Decepticons to detract from chasing Bumblebee to blast them out of the sky. Catching up with Bumblebee, the small Autobot decides that he has to face his responsibilities and fight. Transforming into robot mode and is about to face the Decepticons when Jetfire arrives to rescue him. However, this rescue is stopped when the Decepticons out gun him.

However, before they can capture Bumblebee the police, air force, and the Autobots arrive forcing them to retreat. As Waldo and Ernest have to deal with explaining things to the authorities, Bumblebee slinks away in robot mode realizing that his place will always be with the Autobots.

THE ALLMAN BETTS FAMILY REVIVAL*, THE FACTORY, 25 NOVEMBER 2023

*The Allman Betts Band (Devon Allman and Duane Betts with maybe Berry Duane Oakley, John Ginty, Johnny Stachlea, John Lum, Alex Orbison, R. Scott Bryan) with TAL WILKENFELD and Jimmy Hall, Luther Dickinson, Jackie Greene, Anders Osborne, Larry McCray, Mike Zito, Maddie Schell, Ghalia Volt, Ally Venable, and Cody Dickinson)

I had passed on this show when my rock’n’roll proposed this one (mostly being extremely selective about such shows—last one was Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Labor Day 2022, before that Electric Hot Tuna at the Sheldon Fall 2019 and Phil Lesh and all of Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Festival at the local barn that summer, but also cost, the holiday weekend, and city provincialism as the venue is out in west West County). But one of us felt under the weather and miracled me (I’ll pick up his dinner and maybe even Jameson tab at Jazz St Louis sometime, sssh). So I went anyway and gladly.

Devon Allman is local (as are several members of the core band as well as guests Maddie Schell and Mike Zito) so he started this sprawling tour at home. The Factory is relatively new—swanky and comfortable, perhaps too much so—a bigger Pageant. But it was an old crowd, so good parking and easy out starts to matter. This is what rock’n’roll has become, but so has this fan.

And this fan’s rock’n’roll is largely nostalgic. I got to hear a wonderful repertoire very competently done. Devon Allman’s voice evokes his father’s, but sometimes Jimmy Hall handled the biggest tunes (Statesboro Blues which followed a tune—one of the band’s new ones?—and effectively kicked off the show and the Whipping Post closer). Duane Betts can sound like his father while Johnny Stachela does very nicely with the slide parts. I probably wouldn’t pay $30 to see them at a smaller venue, but that’s not what justifies this as a bigger ticket tour.

It’s an all-star revue with guests coming out to sing/play a tune or two. Thus, Jackie Greene (one of the people whom I regretted foregoing when I didn’t plan to go) played acoustic guitar (Greg’s old Gibson) and sang Melissa and then added a slide solo to One Way Out and Luther Dickinson (another one I was really glad to see) tore up the first set closer Dreams while opening the second set as part of a tune I didn’t know Sailing Away. He was also significant for Come and Go Blues (sung by Maddie Schell who played mandolin). Larry McCray had to plug in three different guitars while singing Soulshine which triply underscored its gospel roots. Anders Osborne sang Ramblin’ Man with gusto but left the soloing to Duane Betts.

Ally Venable did I’m No Angel and Ghalia Volt played slide and sang Pony Boy Blues. So there were deep cuts—or at least later career cuts, including No One To Run With Anymore.

The huge treat was to see TAL WILKENFELD who was both her wonderful self and, in doing so, reminded me/us how important Berry Oakley, Allen Woody, and Oteill Burbridge have been for these tunes. She just burbled under everything, not quite soloing but driving things with inventive idea after inventive idea.`At that—or any—Hot Tuna, I would frequently punctuate my notes with Jack! For this one, there are several Tals! She sang Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More adequately but Blue Sky and Ramblin’ Man stood out even as I often watched and listened for her. She had a full blown start from scratch solo that pushed her speakers to their limits that then, duh, kicked into Whipping Post where she continued to be spectacular. She elevated the entire gig.

I don’t quite get the economics—how much does Larry McCray get for singing Soulshine? Or Cody Dickinson for being the fourth (!) on the Midnight Rider all hands on deck closer? Or Jackie Greene or Luther Dickinson? It makes sense as a one off Thanksgiving weekend party at Devon’s, but they’re off for a dozen shows. Maybe on the road the absence of Schell and Zito will open up solo and singing space for others. The extravaganza as such generates interest in a way that even the Allman Betts Band with Wilkenfeld and, oh, Hall wouldn’t. But the core band is an effective tribute act and their own tunes, the opener maybe and definitely the first two tunes of the encore, are solid.

I don’t regret Jessica being in there but that probably took the In Memory of Elizabeth Reed slot. Otherwise my wishlist was met.

That includes lawyers from a large firm suing Dolan, even though the lawyers ejected had no involvement in the case.

Hiring David Greene as the host of this express train to deranged entitlement takes a steady hand. Too caustic and demeaning, and the host comes off as mean-spirited toward the subject, James Dolan. Too soft, and Dolan appears to get a free pass for exquisite pettiness and bullying behavior.

David Greene is a true pro. He handles the Dolan story with a perfect dosage of humor, snark, and natural curiosity about what powers the ego of James Dolan.

Greene is now the host of KCRW's Left Right & Center (LRC), a well-established politics podcast that is appropriately billed as "The civilized yet provocative antidote to the self-contained opinion bubbles that dominate political debate."

I highly recommend Reign Of Error for several reasons. First, the tale about James Dolan is a cautionary story about the serious consequences of an America where economic inequality gives birth to entitled man-boys like James Dolan, Jeffrey Epstein, Elon Musk, et al. Second, Greene excels as the host, hitting his three-point jump shot of conclusions and insights at a higher rate than Steph Curry. 

Finally, the five-part podcast series leads listeners down this dark road of dysfunction until you say, "There's no way James Dolan could do something more egregious than this." 

And then he does.  

The last episode focuses on efforts to get Dolan to sell the NBA's Knicks to an owner who will restore it to its former glory.

Mass communication, what is it? It's simple, communication for the masses. Yet, how are their messages spread? That's simple but so simple that it may fly over your head, it certainly flew over mine. Mass communication doesn't necessarily have to be communication through ads on T.V. or over the internet, instead it can also be found on 8.01 billion different bodies. That seems like a high number but if you think about this in retrospect, you cross path with numerous strangers on a daily basis and you will always notice one thing about each person you cross paths with. Whether it's the shoes on their feet or the design of a shirt, it truly does not matter because the object that you looked at simply caught your eyes, it can be considered free advertisement. Take myself for example, I love shoes, or some may call me "A Sneaker Head". No matter where I'm at or who I meet, I will always have an eye out for a new pair of Jordan's that had just drop or I will even pay attention to what some of the best athletes in the world will have on as they walk into a stadium. Why do I consider this mass communication still? Because these companies spend millions of dollars on advertising with different athletes to wear their logo for a simple game. To companies having athletes on their team is huge, an NFL game last season had an average of 15.4 million viewers. With athletes being a part of a company's supply line and wearing their gear, this allows the fans to not only interact with their favorite players but also allows fans to notice the new jacket Nike came out with or the new Louis Vuitton shoes that have just been shown to millions of people around the world in the matter of time it takes an individual to finish a simple press conference. All of this was learned in an hour and fifteen-minute class, I had walked every day of my life looking at advertisement without ever considering it a form of mass communication. Yet, as I look back into my memories, I'm able to pull moments out of my life where I wanted a specific thing such as sunglasses made by Oakley. They were not some special types of sunglasses that would block out the sun or give me some type of superhuman abilities, they were simple sunglasses that a five-dollar pair would have done the same job. However, I wanted them because all my friends had them, all the best baseball players I watched on T.V. had them and even certain celebrities had done collaborations with Oakley to truly grow the brand. Just by watching and playing baseball, my views on game gear started to change because I wanted to be just like every other little kid; I wanted to fit in. Now, could that be a form of culture? It could be due to the fact every baseball player in America felt the need for a pair of Oakley's, we could even consider it part of the baseball culture. In any activity one chooses to do in their lives, there will always be growth. Wanting or deciding to change the pace and truly bunker down on becoming the absolute best you can become in said activity. To the majority, it comes with materialistic objects and how much better it can make a person's life or how easier a task at hand can become. In every aspect there can be said culture; there's a culture in sports, art, reading, and so much more. It just depends on a person's view.

I'll be taking a look at how horror films during this time period handled characters who were described as or portrayed as LGBTQ. A lot of these films fall under the exploitation label. Whether or not this can be seen as actual representation or just fetishization is up for debate. In some cases, it's done for no other reason than to be exploitative. In other cases, however, one can find a truer sense of representation. Vampyres is a 1974 British movie made by José Ramon Larraz. Two female vampires, Fran and Miriam, are bisexual lovers who lure men to their countryside estate for erotic nights of fun. An unfortunate couple camp out nearby and become all too aware of their bloodthirsty neighbors. Of course, supernatural mayhem ensues. Fran and Miriam are not gentle with their victims. Choosing to slash apart the men they drink from, they're brutal, savage, and cannibalistic. In this film, men are portrayed as unimportant and easily dismissed. Given the climate of the 70s, the rise in the women's liberation movement, and the general welcoming of new ideas, Vampyres can be seen as progressive. These women outsmart, outwit, and outrun every male character in the film. Although it was directed by a man, this film is female at heart. Shot at Oakley Court, the location of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Vampyres was a fresh look at the lesbian vampire sub-genre. It gave its female characters more meat to sink their fangs into. Reliance on superficial beauty isn't dominant, despite both women being extraordinarily beautiful. This film is a gory celebration of feminist ideals, female empowerment, and independence. As a Bastille fan, you’ve probably asked yourself How many questions does Bastille have in their songs? Is Dan Smith okay? And today, u/thedoomdays and I will be attempting to answer one of those questions! Together we spend about 3.5 hours counting every question in everything from Annie Oakley Hanging to Doom Days. Slow Descent: Ch 1: Not Looking for Trouble (Aren't You Though?)

The sun has long since set over Hatchetfield. The darkness weighs heavily over the town and beyond. In Oakley Park, there aren't even any lights to illuminate the space. Which makes sense, seeing as it closes at sunset.

Despite this, a shiny red 2019 Corvette Stingray sits in the small parking lot. The Kansas license plate suggests the owner doesn't know any better. Which is impressive, given the signs posted that state the park's hours. Not that the locals need the signs. The locals of Hatchetfield know better than to be this close to the Witchwood this late at night.

Arlen Mercier hikes his bag higher on his shoulder as he approaches the treeline. The beam from his flashlight illuminates the trunks of the trees and the ground in front of him. Crickets chirp loudly, almost as if in warning. He glances up at the night sky, noting the new moon, before walking into the forest.

He had just moved to Hatchetfield a month or so ago, in search of inspiration for his next novel. Sure, his fantasy adventure books were fun to write and sold well, but he wanted a challenge. Based on box office sales and tumblr posts, his target demographic seemed to be into horror.

He heard about Hatchetfield from a few fans, noting the town name on the return addresses of letters. It seemed like such a silly name for a town. Hatchetfield? Is that where you go to bury the hatchet? He had tweeted under his pen name of Claire Merren. The responses he received from fans who lived there, though, intrigued him. He read about their stories, urban legends and conspiracy theories, feeling drawn to the island town. A few days browsing the web and some phone calls later, he had purchased a house in a neighborhood called Pinebrook.

Tonight though, tonight is the first night he's gotten to do any investigating after asking around town. The Witchwood caught his attention after a brief conversation with a young girl with pigtail braids and dark, serious eyes. She caught sight of him outside of Lakeside Mall and had immediately become distressed. "Witchwood," she had muttered, glancing at the teenager in a Toy Zone vest at her side before looking pointedly at him again. "Apple… Dark…"

He had tried to approach her, to ask what she meant, but the teen had glared at him before hurrying the girl away.

Arlen finds himself in a clearing after several minutes of hiking over gnarled roots and unruly underbrush. The girl had been right about two things: it was dark and he was in the Witchwood. He shines the light around, slowly spinning in a circle as he moves to the middle of the clearing. He stops dead as two horrifying realizations hit him.

One: He doesn't know which way he came from.

Two: The crickets have stopped chirping.

He takes a deep breath, trying to keep himself calm. He looks around, trying to find some sort of sign or marker to have magically appeared to guide him back to the park.

Crunch

Arlen freezes, swallowing nervously at the sound. That wasn't a twig snapping. That sounded like-

"Well, well, well, who do we have here?" A low gravelly voice asks

Stumbling back, Arlen shines the light towards the sound of the voice. There stands a man dressed entirely in denim. The light reflects off the pins on his jacket. His dark hair is slicked back from his face, dark eyes glinting maliciously. In his hand is a green apple with a single bite taken out of it.

Panic begins to rise in his chest. "Wh-who are you?!" He demands in a shaky voice.

"Oh, I think the more important question is who are you?" The man looks him up and down. "Not from Hatchetfield, that much is for certain."

Arlen blinks. "How could you possibly know that?"

Somehow, the man's grin grows even wider. "Cause I know Hatchetfield. It's a mold, y'see, makes a very specific type of person." He tilts his head, eyes narrowing as he takes another bite of his apple. "...and you're not it," he says through a mouthful of apple.

Where to even begin with this. "Look, I don't want any trouble-"

The forest around him erupts with high pitched screams of laughter, making it almost impossible to hear the man's low rumbling laugh. There's something else, a single, almost hiccuping laugh underneath all of the other noises that seems to resonate through the forest.

"You don't want any trouble?" The man snickers, eyes burning with sadistic glee. "You came to Hatchetfield of all places and you expect me to believe you don't want any trouble?" He sneers. He begins to cross the clearing slowly, headed directly for Arlen.

He needs to run, needs to get away from whoever this man is. As he takes a step back, his flashlight begins dimming and flickering. Arlen curses. He just put new batteries in it before coming out.  He hits it against the heel of his hand, desperately trying to get the light to come back. He glances up to see the man getting closer and closer, his lips curled in an arrogant smirk.

Witchwood. He glances around at the trees as he backs up.

Apple. His eyes fall to the green skin of the fruit in the man's hand.

Dark. His flashlight flickers one last time before plunging him in total darkness.

The next morning, the soft sunlight filters through the branches of the trees. Deep in the heart of the Witchwood, a clearing seems to glow from the light filling it. It appears undisturbed, aside from a single green apple on the ground, placed, somehow, exactly in the middle of the clearing.
