adding onto what the other anon said before, the show honestly put in so much effort to MAKE the outcasts seem like they have to be the bigger people and let these popular cishet bitches in. and if they don’t, they’re being unreasonable apparently???
like for instance, if kurt didn’t like how people were representing his sexuality (cough shittany cough), that was just simply kurt’s problem and him being upset about it was bullying and irrational. HE had to be bigger man and apologize despite not being in the wrong.
same with characters like tina and artie. they have to just lay down and take abuse bc if they react in any way, they’re made out to be the bad guys. it’s apparently okay to make fun of disabilities, but we draw the line at calling someone stupid!!!!
the idea that the popular kids are the main characters is just inherently counterproductive to the point of the show. however, despite that, they always managed to make the minorities and outcasts seem like the villains.
^^^
the queer/non white/disabled outcasts are asshole villains when they ask not to be treated like shit but the queer/non white popular girls are fucking heroes when they act racist ableist and otherwise bigoted as fuuuuck. make it make sense

Troy Barnes, Jeff winger, And Abed nadir are better asshole protagonists who are likable, have character development, fantastic autistic representation and great Lgbt representation than Santana Lopez , Finn Hudson, and Brittany Pierce.

Santana be like : Kurt and Rachel are my family!!!
Also Santana:
Lies to Rachel because she's insecure af and then insults her to cover up her own bs
Tries to steal Fanny from her even when she agreed to give her equal part of shows
Insults Kurt when all he did was speak up his concerns out of his love for his friends and attack his relationship which she knew would hurt him (even though he has been nothing but kind to her all the time)

officially joining team anti finn - top 5 times you wanted to punch finn? 🥰
(hope you don't mind the negativity)
I don’t seek to be negative then it’s Finn and I’m in.
1. Outing Santana
Inexcusably horrific. Everyone about it. The fact that he did it, the way he proved he learned nothing from Theatrically, the entirety of IKAG being about himself, (down to the reason why he cares about her; because she was his first even though she’s gay and clearly that couldn’t have been and enjoyable experience for her), the things that he chose to say, public or not. She’s a cruel bully and not just telling it how it is, she can dish it out but can’t take it in, valid things to throw in her face, not she’s scared her gf doesn’t love her and she’s a coward for not coming out. Nope. This is when I did the 180 and accepted that Finn was not good.
2. Assaulting Quinn at Prom
The girl is not obligated to tell you she can walk (1) step with assistance, and even if she was you absolutely do not pull her out of her wheelchair and potentially damage her further! What the hell? ‘YoU’Re sTIlL tHE sAMe PERson-’ yeah the girl who went through a teenage pregnancy, got kicked out, paralysed and more wants a plastic crown at a high school dance. So cruel 🙄.
3. Beating up Brody
Gah, out of every way to handle this scenario, this was the appropriate way??? No! Tell Rachel, give Santana advice on how to (appropriately) handle the situation, maybe lecture him for putting Rachel at risk of STD’s, not beat him up for being a sex worker!!! Also additional mini rant but Santana was so fucked up for the way she went about this and I love San and Pezberry but Rachel should’ve slapped and kicked her ass out again.
4. Calling Robin a slur
Yay! What do we love? Blatant regression, from the guy who specifically said he wouldn’t and even seemed shocked by the idea of using that word! We also love only apologising for forgiveness and retracting that apology right afterwards! Screw that mother for being upset you called her baby a slur! Woo hoo!
5. Getting Quinn kicked out
Nope. Nopity nope nope nope. I though S1 Finn was great when I started watching and this always made me shocked. Fuck everyone except Quinn in this episode. Fuck Kurt, Fuck Quinn’s parents, Fuck Quinn’s dad especially, Fuck Finn Hudson.

Why do people say that they are anti bully but yet their favorite characters are the biggest bullies. When the characters are bullying others ,they just call that funny. I really don’t understand this world

it seems like the people who push brittany being autistic the most inadvertently seem quite ableist themselves, like they expect this 17/18 year old girl to be treated like a 5 year old child by everyone and they’ll demonise anyone who doesn’t coddle her like a child. Kurt explained to her why he didn’t want the unicorn posters and only got mad when she chose to ignore him but kurt’s still somehow the bad guy for not being nice to her after she decided to completely disregard his feelings in the situation.
and truth be told 90% of her shitty behaviour never seemed like it related to her being autistic but rather her just being an asshole, because believe it or not someone who’s autistic is capable of being a bad person 😱, and even if it was directly related to her being autistic… doesn’t make it okay
brittany: you can’t treat me like an idiot bc that’s bullying
someone: *doesn’t coddle brittany’s feelings because she’s clearly in the wrong*
brittany:
Tumblr media
then santana jumps in and tells her that she’s never wrong and everyone else is the problem and that she should never change further enabling her being a shit person, which i’m told is actually the sign of a healthy relationship

@sohemotional I won't continue on the original post to respect the OP's wishes.
May I ask why you find Rachel to be obnoxious and dislike her? I’m just curious because this is such a common opinion in the Glee fandom/outside the fandom but no one ever really says why they consider her obnoxious.
I mean sometimes a character can get on your nerves for no obvious reason (that’s how I feel about Blaine personally) and I wouldn’t expect everyone to like Rachel’s very intense personality but is there any particular reason you dislike her?
Not sure about people not saying why they do not like Rachel. It's pretty obvious if you look in the anti Rachel tag which I did once because I was curious. The posts are pretty detailed.
Just to start off, I am not a super Glee fan. I love the performances mostly and I find the analyses interesting. The character ideas are good. The fanfics and analyses made me want to watch it. I watched season 1-3 on amazon prime (most of it) with scenes of season 4-6 on Youtube. Also I tend to be indifferent towards female characters. I prefer the stories of male characters more in the media I watch (very limited) generally. Maybe because they are fleshed out more in the shows I watch.
So why I dislike Rachel for the most part...I was neutral about her when I began reading on Glee. I saw reasons for loving and hating her. The fanfics I read at the beginning were also balanced - some had more bashing elements and others portrayed her as an amazing friend and teammate. But I had no clue who she was so I did not fully absorb these ideas until I watched Glee for myself.
I have not watched Glee in a while since I lost interest. But off the top of my head:
How Authority Treats Her - Here I am referring to Mr. Shue and Carmen. As someone who used to be seen as a teacher's pet, I can relate to Rachel here actually. Mr. Shue has blatant favoritism for her and Finn which I find inappropriate and unfair to other glee members. Carmen also seems to warm to her talents but inviting Rachel to that winter showcase seemed unrealistic to me. Rachel is good but she is among higher competition now, plus she's freshman. It's like when I went to college. I was valedictorian in high school but at college I was just another smart kid. If anything, Carmen should have doubled down on freshman Rachel if she really believed in her potential. She also gets away with blatant disrespect where others do not. Kurt, Mercedes and Santana have been punished by Mr. Shue for things. Rachel does not. The only time I recall she got even a taste was when Mr. Shue shouted at her about her attitude. Rachel disrespects Carmen, the woman who gave her an undeserved second chance, and she's back at NYADA?? Give me a break. I can't see a woman like Carmen tolerating Rachel after that.
How She Treats Kurt - Kurt can be mean to Rachel, especially in season 1. He did get better though. But for him supposedly being a close friend, she treats him badly. She goes after Blaine despite knowing about Kurt's crush. As a straight girl, she has more options than Kurt and it paints her as selfish and inconsiderate. She laughs at Kurt doing his Tony audition, despite knowing of his desire to go to NYADA with a smaller resume than her. She was a terrible roommate (eg. bringing Brody into the apartment without his consent). When Kurt tries to get her to reconsider dropping out of NYADA for Funny Girl out of concern, she lashes out and insults him. She feels superior over Kurt after the winter showcase or some other thing. I'm likely forgetting other cases. The writers replacing Rachel as Kurt's best friend was confusing but natural for the plot I suppose.
Attitude in Glee club - Like @helbertinelli mentioned, girls like Rachel can be intimidating. I mentioned that I do respect that about Rachel. She reminds me of the fierce drive I had in high school. But it seems to me that she is the only girl who can do this without being demonized by Mr. Shue or be rewarded for it. When Mercedes and Tina gets tired of Rachel's shadow, everyone gangs up on them. When Mercedes is forced to share Maria with Rachel, she is labelled as unreasonable even though Rachel admitted Mercedes was better than her. Rachel can be kind and selfless but when it comes to competitions and Glee club she is extremely selfish. Whenever someone else gets a chance to shine, it's a problem for her (eg. Quinn and Sam). Working with people like Rachel is a nightmare.
Bigotry - Other characters like Santana, Sebastian etc have said racist things about her. One of the main reasons I dislike Santana as well. She's an overrated character and I find her to be one of the biggest bullies on the show. Fandom and canon claims she was nasty because she felt insecure due to her being lesbian, but she's just as terrible after she accepts herself. At least for guys like Sebastian what he says is portrayed as horrible since he is an antagonist. Anyway, Rachel is casually bigoted. Eg. krunk club, dissing Artie as a lead guy in S1. But other ND members say problematic things so she can get a pass here.
Those are things off the top of my head. As I have said, there are things I like about her. She can be a good friend to people who have hurt her, eg. Quinn, Kurt, Puck. Also she is pretty consistent about supporting Kurt against homophobia from Karofsky, even more than Finn at times. I think her reconciliation with Quinn was one of the best friendships on the show. Plus she has sweet moments like when she encouraged Kurt to smile during sectionals in S2. You can emphasize with her insecurities, eg. not feeling pretty, being bullied for her dreams. I did not like how she treated Finn at times (eg. disregarding his dreams, using sex to make her performance better, telling him to give up football to make herself feel better) but I believe by the end of season 3 these issues were addressed. I don't see Finchel being sustainable anyway. One of them would need to give up their dream for it to work.
Based on what I have read, maybe some of the hate towards her is overblown. I would like her more if she faced more realistic consequences. Like I think making Mercedes share Maria was disrespectful. Maybe Rachel could have given up Maria to Mercedes in good faith (similar to a rival acknowledging being bettered by his competitor) and then Mercedes agreed to share since she was a good sport. Or maybe if she didn't get into NYADA (who stalks a dean like that and gets away with it??) and she improved herself for a while. She could do some small roles and maybe Carmen sees her in a show and is impressed. That would feel more earned. Or maybe she goes to NYADA and she is a smaller fish. She has harsh teachers and she feels insecure. But she keeps her drive and she eventually surpasses her peers.
Overall, I find Rachel to be an awful character. Why do ambitious theatre girls have to be portrayed like that? Flawed characters are a thing but at least make them face consequences. After season 3, I could no longer stand her.
That's why even if he is not my fav character, I can get behind someone like Kurt or Mercedes because I see how much they struggled without Mr. Shue's favoritism or people like Jesse putting in a good word for them or the stars aligning for them like with Rachel. When Kurt gets into NYADA, it's awe inspiring. Or when Mercedes gets her break in the music industry.
It's a bit long but that's my stance as someone who came into Glee fairly neutral about Rachel.

But really what would be the angle of an unholy trinity based show? Brittany's going to have a riveting storyline where she believes in the easter bunny in which she'll definitely mention the something about pooping candy, Quinn will proceed to learn the same lesson she's already learned just to go back on it the next episode and santana's going to be a bitch to everyone and turn down a lead movie role to go on a two week holiday to Barcelona with brittany

actually i was referring to your other post about her. you obviously don't like her but other people do and it's upsetting for people who related to and connected with her as a character to see people being rude about her in her tag. i don't think tag your hate is an unreasonable request. anti tags exist for a reason.
a post from two years ago??????????????? calling her on her biphobia and bullying???????????????

not to be a hater i was just thinking about this recently. the biphobia in Glee is so inconsistent with how its addressed.
like i’m pretty sure the ONLY person who ever gets called out for saying anything remotely biphobic is Kurt (which like im glad bc it was a shitty thing to say. tho i think kurt antis use it to frequently paint this rhetoric that kurt is a bad person bc of one (1) shitty thing he said)
meanwhile santana can say shitty things about bisexuality bc shes mad that brittany is dating sam and thats apparently fine???? she really has the idea that brittany is betraying her for penis which is bizarre. also i feel like she enabled dani’s biphobia as well.
i love santana, but i feel like this issue is heavily glossed over by fans while kurt’s comment is apparently bad enough to crucify him :/
Tumblr media
I know we've talked about it before but I also just thought of it again recently. Bc there was a poll with Here Comes The Sun and someone in the tags was like "I'll vote for anything over Dani's biphobic ass" and it's like well baby girl Santana's biphobic ass is literally standing right next to her. And people sure don't have a problem voting for Santana's songs despite how blatantly biphobic she also is
And also transphobic, we can throw that in there, bc it's always about Penis and Boys hand in hand like there's no other option. Never mind Unique has been on the show for over a season, let's keep equating dick with gross boys and pussy with beautiful lesbian 100% pure sapphic goddesses 😍😍 Bleh it's like they tried to cram in every last shred of offensive sexual language they could think of into one two minute scene
BUT it's not like I'm judging that specific tagger, or anyone else who dislikes Dani. Bc at least Santana is a character with a million other things going for her besides the worst things she's said (exactly like Kurt hi) whereas Dani had like ten lines in her time on the show and half of them were "sapphic goddess" and "i love lady parts" barf
"She enabled Dani's biphobia as well" yeah literally. She could've just said "I was dating a girl and it didn't work out and we broke up" but she specifically threw "and she was bi" into the middle of it like that's part of the reason they broke up lmao. Santana, who tells Brittany that it's okay for her to date someone new, boy or girl, just to throw a fit when Brittany ends up dating Sam and makes it into some weird thing about her need for dick and how she's Less Than bc she's bi. And telling that to a potential new partner so she can reinforce her shitty stereotypes by also being gross about bi people (: Amazing
And anyway bringing it back to Kurt and double standards but like. That's pretty much the only offensive thing Kurt ever said lmao. Like yeah he said some dumb or thoughtless things here and there but if you take out that one glaring fuck up, you're not really left with anything that bad. Whereas if you extract Santana's biphobia from the equation, you're still left with six seasons of racism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, fatphobia...
So yeah :) Double standards, anon, double standards x

The hate Rory gets for trying to sleep with Brittany whereas the same people love Santana for manipulating Brittany is just woww ...like I don't excuse Rory at all but at I acknowledge Santana too cause I'm not a hypocrite!!!!
I mean c'mon she slept with Brittany while telling Brittany that cheating with the same sex doesn't mean anything and that she thinks Brittany is naive and she can easily manipulate her into being with her! Also her breaking Bartie up is not cute ..yeah it's for love but aren't you supposed to let your love go for their happiness rather than manipulating them so much(for approximately 1½ years) . Also telling Rory to go die , such a power move .. anyone who's watched glee knows how extreme that sentence is and how it can affect people .

blaine had both too much and not enough screentime, anyone who's super hyped about the uht is obnoxious, both rachel and schue hate is tired but rachel hate isnt as justified as people think xoxo
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
I think Blaine had the right amount of screen time. He had a little bit more screen time than necessary but I enjoyed most scenes with him. Though I wouldn’t have minded him having a few less solos.
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
Yeah, some fans are obnoxious, though I’d say that applies for tons of characters and not just the UHT. Though I don’t get people overhyping just one aspect about the show but anyways, just do whatever you want.
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
I think Rachel is definitely over-hated. I most certainly love her. Mr Schue, lets just say I’m not a fan but I think some people go a little overboard. Like, y’all, he’s fictional. Calm the f down.
